Zink (Zn) är ett mikronäringsämne som är nödvändigt för människans fysiologi. Upptaget av zink varierar beroende på kostens innehåll av zink samt om den innehåller ämnen som är hämmande eller stimulerande på zinkupptaget. Syftet med studien var att undersöka vilket referensområde som är normalt för zink i plasma och serum hos friska personer samt att undersöka risken för kontamination av zink från rör, korkar och pipettspetsar. Syftet var även att jämföra zinknivåerna i plasma och serum efter ett intag av zink i 4 veckor, samt att jämföra zinknivåerna med body mass index (BMI), albumin, östradiol samt markörer för inflammation och järnstatus. Sammanlagt 54 subjektivt friska personer rekryterades till studien, främst studenter från Linköpings universitet och personal inom laboratoriemedicin, Region Östergötland. Venprovtagning utfördes på forskningspersonerna och zinkproverna analyserades på Konelab 30i med en spektrofotometrisk metod. Resultatet visade att zinknivåerna i serum och plasma hos friska personer är lägre än de referensintervall som är angivna inom laboratoriemedicin samt i litteraturen. Det visade även att kontaminationsrisken av zink från rör, pipettspetsar och korkar är ytterst liten. Efter tillskott av zink ökade zinkkoncentrationen i serum och plasma (p<0,001). När det gällde övriga parametrar var det endast ferritin hos gruppen med låga utgångsvärden som visade signifikant lägre värden efter zinktillskott. Slutsatsen blir att referensområdet för zink hos friska personer bör justeras. Risken för kontamination av zink från rör, pipettspetsar och korkar är mycket liten och att dessa material som används idag kan fortsätta användas i samband med zinkanalyser.

Zinc is a micronutrient that is essential for human health and development. The uptake of zinc from the diet is dependent on the relative zinc content in the diet, and the presence of elements that act as inhibitors or facilitators for the uptake of zinc. The purpose of the present study was to investigate zinc in plasma and serum samples from healthy individuals in relation to the current reference interval for zinc. A contamination test was also performed to investigate the risk of zinc contamination from tubes, corks and pipettes. An additional purpose was to compare the circulating levels of zinc after zinc supplementation for 4 weeks, and to compare the levels of zinc to body mass index, albumin, estradiol and markers for inflammation and blood iron status. Participating subjects were mainly students from Linköping University and employees from the Department of Clinical Chemistry, Region Östergötland. Venous sampling was carried out and samples were analyzed on a Konelab 30i with a spectrophotometric method for determination of plasma and serum zinc. The results showed that the levels of zinc in serum and plasma from healthy individuals were lower in comparison with the current reference interval and also in comparison with the current literature. Syftet med projektet är att behandla flygaskan med hjälp av surt processvatten för att utvinna olika metaller, som zink, så att det sedan kan deponeras på ett enklare och billigare sätt, samt även at utveckla en metod för att utvinna mer zink med minsta möjliga andel surt processvatten (5 % HCl). Olika metaller med fokus på zink studerades i labbskala på Högskolan i Borås. Flygaskan och det sura processvattnet som har använts i denna studie är från Renova ABs anläggning. Resultatet visar att vid behandling av flygaskan med surt processvatten var den maximala mängden zink som utvanns 88% under de olika försöken som gjordes i labbet. Det finns olika faktorer bakom resultatet, såsom halten av surt processvatten, pH, blandningstiden och askans elementsammansättning, vilka kan påverka halten utvunnen zink.

Sweden produces large amount of fly ash from waste combustion annually. Combustion the waste generates two types of ashes, bottom ash/slag, and fly ash. Bottom ash is considered to be more environmentally friendly and has a wide area of application such as road constructions on landfills. While the fly ash has high level of heavy metals and for instance dioxines which are harmful for the environment. This type of ash are deposited in a landfill and gets classified as a hazardous waste which is expensive given that the deposit fee is high. The fact that fly ash contains valuable metals as zinc, methods of recovering it are being developed such as acid leaching. This is a promising method as the leachate used are acid process water making the usage of the chemicals substantially lower which makes it financially viable. Waste incinerators in Sweden produce approximately 200 000 tons of fly ash annually and the majority of it is transfered to Norway to get treated and put on a landfill. Some waste management companies, e.g. Renova, are using another method called “the Bamberg method” where fly ash is mixed with sludge to form a cake and put in the company’s own landfill. The projects goal is to leach the fly ash by using acidic process water to obtain the metallic substance particularly zinc making it easier and cheaper to landfill the ash and also to optimize this method to get the most zinc out of the ash using minimum amount of the acidic process water (5% HCI). The laboratory work took place in the University of Borås. Fly ash and the acid process water which were used under the laboratory work was obtained from RenovaAB. The results shows that leaching the fly ash with acidic process water gave different release of zinc but was 88% at most. The variation in the results depends on a few factors such as amount of acidic process water, pH, time, blending time and the ashes content. Cette thèse traite de deux problèmes dans le cadre du programme de Langlands. Pour le premier problème, dans la situation de GL2 et un cocaractère non minuscule, nous fournissons un contre-exemple (sous certaines hypothèses naturelles) à la conjecture de Rapoport-Zink, communiquée par Laurent Fargues. Le deuxième problème concerne un résultat dans le programme de Langlands p-adique. Soit A une algèbre Qp-aﬃnoïde, au sens de Tate. Nous développons une théorie d’un espace localement convexe en A-modules parallèle au traitement dans le cas d’un corps par Schneider et Teitelbaum. Nous montrons qu’il existe une application d’intégration liant une catégorie de représentations localement analytiques en A -modules et des modules de distribution séparés relatif. Il existe une théorie de cohomologie localement analytique pour ces objets et une version du Lemme de Shapiro. Dans le cas d’un corps, ceci a été substantiellement développé par Kohlhaase. Comme une application, nous proposons une correspondance de Langlands p-adique en families : Pour un (ϕ,Γ)-module trianguline et régulière de dimension 2 sur l’anneau de Robba relatif RA nous construisons une GL2(Qp)-représentation localement analytique en A-modules. Il s’agit d’un travail en commun avec Joaquin Rodrigues.

This thesis deals with two problems within the Langlands program. For the ﬁrst problem, inthesituationofGL2 andanon-minuscule cocharacter, we provide a counter-example (under some natural assumptions) to the Rapoport-Zink conjecture, communicated to us by Laurent Fargues. The second problem deals with a result in the p-adic Langlands program. Let A be a Qp-aﬃnoid algebra, in the sense of Tate. We develop a theory of locallyconvex A- modules parallel to the treatment in the case of a ﬁeld by Schneider and Teitelbaum. We prove that there is an integration map linking a category of locally analytic representations in A-modules and separately continuous relative distribution modules. There is a suitable theory of locally analytic cohomology for these objects and a version of Shapiro’s Lemma. In the case of a ﬁeld this has been substantially developed by Kohlhaase. As an application we propose a p-adic Langlands correspondence in families: For a regular trianguline (ϕ,Γ)-module of dimension 2 over the relative Robba ring RA we construct a locally analytic GL2(Qp)-representation in A-modules. This is joint work with Joaquin Rodrigues.

Bilsäkerhet är en viktig fråga i dagens samhälle. Det enklaste sättet att skydda sig vid en bilfärd är genom att använda säkerhetsbälte. En säkerhetsbältesrulle är uppbyggd av flera olika komponenter, en av dessa kallas torque tube som tar energi när kroppen fångas upp av bältet vid en eventuell kollison. Säkerhetsbältet ska skydda passagerarna i bilen i många år och vid olika temperaturer. Torque tuben är i detta fall gjuten i en zinklegering som heter Zamak5 som förändrar sina materialegenskaper i åldrat och kylt tillstånd. Målet med arbetet är att hitta de parametrar som förändrar materialegenskaperna i Zamak5. Olika metoder användes för att få fram ett resultat på en torque tube som är specialtillverkad med försvagad geometri. Provobjekten som testades var både åldrade och oåldade. Ett pendelprov kan motsvara en kollision mellan ett säkerhetsbälte och en tyngd. För att hitta den kritiska temperatur då Zamak5 förändrar materialegenskaperna gjordes det pendelprov vid olika temperaturer för att se vilka provobjekt som gav brott. Brottytorna studerades sedan i mikroskop för att se vilka parametrar som orsakat egenskapsförändringarna. Resultatet visade att brottet var sprött. Det beror på att temperaturen understigit omslagstemperaturen. Det åldrade och kylda provobjektet visade på sämre hållfasthet och detta beror på att inkoherenta partiklar bildats och lagt sig i korngränser och i kritiska skjuvplan.

Car safety is an important issue in today's society. The easiest way to protect you when going in a car is using the seat belt. A seat belt retractor is made up of several components, one of these is called the torque tube who takes energy when the body caught by the belt in the event of collision. Seatbelts must protect passengers in the car for many years and at different temperatures. The torque tube is in this case cast in a zinc alloy called Zamak5 that changes its material properties of aged and cooled state. The goal of this work is to find the parameters that alter the material properties of Zamak5. Various methods were used to obtain a result on a torque tube, custom made with weakened geometry. Some of the test objects were aged and some were not aged. A pendulum test may correspond to a collision between a belt and a weight. To find the critical temperature when Zamak5 alter the material properties made the pendulum test at different temperatures to see which test objects that gave offense. The fracture surfaces were then studied under a microscope to see the parameters that caused characteristic changes. The results showed that the fracture was brittle. This is because the temperature has fallen below the transition temperature. The aged and cooled test object showed less strength and this is due to incoherent particles formed and folded at the grain boundaries and the critical shear plane.

Let \M be a moduli space of p-divisible groups introduced by Rapoport and Zink. Assume that \M is unramified of EL or PEL type which is unitary or symplectic. Let \Mrig be the generic fiber of Berthelot of \M. This is a rigid analytic space over which there exist a tower of finite etale coverings (\M_K)_K classifing the level structures. We define a determinant morphism \det_K from the tower (\M_K)_K to a tower of rigid analytic spaces of dimension 0 associated to the cocenter of the reductive group related to the space \M. This is a local analogue on the nonarchimedean places of the determinant morphism for Shimura varieties defined by Deligne. As for Shimura varieties, we prove that the geometric fibers of the determinant morphism \det_K are the geometrically connected components of \M_K. We define also the exterior power morphisms which generalize the determinant morphism on the tower of rigid analytic spaces associated to a Lubin-Tate space.

Dans cette thèse, nous étudions la géométrie analytique p-adique et la cohomologie l-adique de certains espaces de Rapoport-Zink, en utilisant la théorie des filtrations de Harder-Narasimhan des schémas en groupes finis et plats élaborée par Fargues.Cette thèse se compose de trois parties. La première partie traite de certains espaces de Rapoport-Zink non-basiques, qui satisfont à la condition que leur polygone de Newton et polygone de Hodge ont un point de contact non-trivial, qui est un point de rupture pour le polygone de Newton. Sous cette hypothèse, nous prouvons que ces espaces de Rapoport-Zink peuvent être décomposés en une somme directe d'espaces de modules des types de Rapoport-Zink associés à certains sous-groupes paraboliques appropriés, donc leurs cohomologie l-adique sont des induites paraboliques et en particulier ne contiennent pas de représentations supercuspidales. Nous prouvons ces faits en démontrant d'abord un théorème sur la filtration de Hodge-Newton pour les groupes p-divisibles avec des structures additionelles sur des anneaux de valuation complets de rang un et de caractéristique mixte (0,p).Dans la deuxième partie, nous considérons les espaces de Rapoport-Zink basiques de signature (1,n-1) pour les groupes unitaires associés à l'extension quadratique non ramifiée de Qp. On étudie l'action de Hecke sur ces espaces en détails. En utilisant la théorie des filtrations de Harder-Narasimhan des schémas en groupes finis et plats, et la stratification de Bruhat-Tits de la fibre spéciale réduite Mred étudié par Vollaard-Wedhorn, on trouve un certain domaine analytique compact DK telle que ses itérés dans le groupe G(Qp)×Jb(Qp) forme un recouvrement localement fini de tout l'espace MK. Nous appelons un tel phénomène une décomposition cellulaire localement finie.Dans la troisième partie, nous démontrons une formule de Lefschetz pour ces espaces pour l'action des éléments semi-simples réguliers elliptiques, en tenant compte de l'action de ces éléments sur les cellules et en appliquant le théorème principal de Mieda. De la même manière, nous pouvons aussi reprouver la formule de Lefschetz pour les espaces de Lubin-Tate précédemment obtenue par Strauch et Mieda. Cette formule de Lefschetz devrait caractériser la réalisation de correspondances de Jacquet-Langlands locales pour les groupes unitaires dans la cohomologie l-adique de ces espaces de Rapoport-Zink, dès que certains problèmes correspondants de théorie des représentations auront été résolus.

Therefore, knowledge of Cu and Zn cycling in soils is required both for guaranteeing proper nutrition and to control possible risks arising from pollution.rnThe overall objective of my study was to test if Cu and Zn stable isotope ratios can be used to investigate into the biogeochemistry, source and transport of these metals in soils. The use of stable isotope ratios might be especially suitable to trace long-term processes occurring during soil genesis and transport of pollutants through the soil. In detail, I aimed to answer the questions, whether (1) Cu stable isotopes are fractionated during complexation with humic acid, (2) 65Cu values can be a tracer for soil genetic processes in redoximorphic soils (3) 65Cu values can help to understand soil genetic processes under oxic weathering conditions, and (4) 65Cu and 66Zn values can act as tracers of sources and transport of Cu and Zn in polluted soils.rnTo answer these questions, I ran adsorption experiments at different pH values in the laboratory and modelled Cu adsorption to humic acid. Furthermore, eight soils were sampled representing different redox and weathering regimes of which two were influenced by stagnic water, two by groundwater, two by oxic weathering (Cambisols), and two by podzolation. In all horizons of these soils, I determined selected basic soil properties, partitioned Cu into seven operationally defined fractions and determined Cu concentrations and Cu isotope ratios (65Cu values). Finally, three additional soils were sampled along a deposition gradient at different distances to a Cu smelter in Slovakia and analyzed together with bedrock and waste material from the smelter for selected basic soil properties, Cu and Zn concentrations and 65Cu and 66Zn values.rnMy results demonstrated that (1) Copper was fractionated during adsorption on humic acid resulting in an isotope fractionation between the immobilized humic acid and the solution (65CuIHA-solution) of 0.26 ± 0.11‰ (2SD) and that the extent of fractionation was independent of pH and involved functional groups of the humic acid. (2) Soil genesis and plant cycling causes measurable Cu isotope fractionation in hydromorphic soils. The results suggested that an increasing number of redox cycles depleted 63Cu with increasing depth resulting in heavier 65Cu values. (3) Organic horizons usually had isotopically lighter Cu than mineral soils presumably because of the preferred uptake and recycling of 63Cu by plants. (4) In a strongly developed Podzol, eluviation zones had lighter and illuviation zones heavier 65Cu values because of the higher stability of organo-65Cu complexes compared to organo-63Cu complexes. Magnesiumhydride geniet toenemende belangstelling als een potentieel waterstofopslagmateriaal. Ondanks zijn vele voordelen is het grote probleem de hoge temperatuur voor waterstofafgifte. Berekeningen voorspellen een duidelijke daling met afnemende deeltjes grootte. Dit proefschrift beschrijft de synthese en strukturen van ongewone meercentra magnesiumhydride clusters en beschrijft eerste experimentele bewijzen voor de relatie tussen de benodigde temperatuur voor waterstofafgifte en cluster grootte. De magnesiumhydride clusters fungeren als moleculaire modelsystemen en maken precieze onderzoekingen op een atomair niveau mogelijk. Het werk is uitgebried met soortgelijk onderzoek aan zinkhydride clusters. Bij het zoeken naar nieuwe toepassingen voor metaalhydride complexen van magnesium, calcium en zink, zijn reactiviteiten met eenvoudige substraten zoals water en pyridine getest. Op basis hiervan, kunnen aardalkalimetaalhydride complexen nu succesvol worden ingezet als katalysatoren voor de synthese van dihydropyridide fragmenten. Laatsten gelden als belangrijke uitgangsstoffen voor de synthese van verscheidene natuurstoffen. Een andere potentiele toepassing van magnesium en zink complexen ligt in het gebruik als katalysator voor de synthese van polycarbonaten. Doordat deze polymeren het ongewenste kooldioxide als een bruikbare bouwsteen bevatten en bioafbreekbaar zijn, staan zij vol in de belangstelling. Voor deze toepassing werden bimetallische complexen, die zowel magnesium als zink bevatten, gesynthetiseerd en onderzocht op potentiele kooperatieve effekten tussen deze twee verschillende metalen.; Safe and convenient storage of hydrogen is one of the biggest near-future challenges. Magnesium hydride has recently gained increased attention as a potential hydrogen storage material. Despite the many advantages, its main problem is the high hydrogen release temperature of 300 °C. Calculations predict a significant decrease upon reduction of the magnesium hydride particle size. This thesis describes syntheses and structures of novel multinuclear magnesium hydride complexes and gives first experimental proof for the relationship between hydrogen release temperatures and cluster size. The magnesium hydride clusters function as molecular model systems for nano-sized hydrogen storage materials and allow precise investigation at the atomic level. The work is extended by similar investigations on zinc hydride clusters. In order to identify further applications for magnesium, zinc and calcium hydride complexes, the reactivity of selected compounds towards simple substrates like water and pyridine is investigated.Based on the results, alkaline-earth metal hydride complexes are successfully applied as catalysts for the formation of dihydropyridide fragments. Gästrike Vatten är ett kommunalägt driftbolag bildat 2008. Bolaget har avloppsreningsverk i Gävle, Hofors, Ockelbo och Älvkarleby kommuner som tillsammans renar avloppsvatten från cirka 120 000 personer. Totalt producerar Gästrike Vatten cirka 11 000 ton slam per år som renderar en total kostnad om 5 000 000 kr. Med anledning av riksdagens uppsatta miljömål om återföring av 60 % av fosforn till produktiv mark vill Gästrike Vatten undersöka hur deras avsättningsmöjligheter ser ut. I dag går slam från samtliga Gästrike Vattens reningsverk till kompostering till anläggningsjord eller som täckmaterial på deponier. Slammet från fem av sex avloppsreningsverk har metallhalter under, i SFS 1998:944 ansatta, gränsvärden för att få spridas på produktiv mark. Det reningsverk som innehåller för höga metallhalter är Duvbackens reningsverk som tar emot spillvatten från Gävle kommun med omnejd och bidrar med mer än 60 % av den totala slammängden från Gästrike Vatten. Av den anledningen kommer Gästrike Vatten ha svårt att nå riksdagens ansatta miljömål avseende återföring av fosfor till produktiv mark. Syftet med denna studie var att utreda vilka avsättningsalternativ som är hållbara miljömässigt och ekonomiskt. Studien beskriver Gästrike Vattens avloppsreningsverk och avsättningsalternativ för slammet. En massbalansstudie har upprättats för utvalda metaller i spillvatten från olika upptagningsområden och producerat slam. Studien visade att det enda avsättningsalternativ som i dag gör det möjligt att nå riksdagens miljömål avseende återföring av fosfor till produktiv mark, till en rimlig kostnad, är en kvalitetssäkring av slammet enligt REVAQ med påföljande återföring till åkermark. Sålunda fokuserades studien på att utreda möjligheterna att REVAQ-certifiera Duvbackens reningsverk. En ökning av Cd, Cu och Zn i slammet på Duvbackens reningsverk de senaste åren tyder på ökade utsläpp till spillvattennätet, vilket är ett troligt resultat av bristande underhåll av oljeavskiljare då Gävle kommuns monopol på hämtning av farligt avfall togs bort 2007. Genom en kartläggning av spillvattennätet och de påkopplade verksamheterna samt en provtagning i större noder på spillvattennätet konstaterades att de största relativa metallmängderna kommer från industriområden i Gävle. Verksamheter som använder Cd, Cu och Zn är fordonstvättar, verkstadsindustrier och ytbehandlingar. Samtliga industriområden där dessa verksamheter finns är därför viktiga att studera närmre.

Gästrike Vatten is owned by the municipalities of Gävle, Hofors, Ockelbo and Älvkarleby and established in 2008. The company is responsible for handling and treating wastewater in the municipalities. Gästrike Vatten elutes wastewater from approximately 120,000 persons and all in all they handle 11,000 tonnes sewage sludge per year to a total cost of 5,000,000 SEK. Syftet med studien är att kartlägga innehållet hos vätskorna i de indirekt energiöverförande kylsystemen och att uppskatta deras potentiella miljöpåverkan vid utsläpp. På vätskeprover från system 5 till 8, som är tagna i returledningen på köldbärare 1 i respektive system, har det uppmätts hög syrgashalt, konduktivitet och COD (chemical oxygen demand), vilket ger stor risk för nedbrytning och korrosion. Dessa systemvätskor borde avgasas eller bytas ut. Systemvätskan från system 3, 7 och 8 överskrider gränsvärdena för zink och nickel och de skulle ha toxisk/ - mycket toxisk effekt på vattenlevande djur och växter. Koppar, zink och nickel är nitrifikationshämmande vilket innebär att de påverkar det biologiska reningssteget vid avloppsreningsverket negativt ifall vätskan släpps ut till det kommunala avloppsledningsnätet. Det framgick utifrån den använda värderingsmallen att de sju största miljöaspekterna är relaterade till föroreningsvariablerna: COD (chemical oxygen demand), zink, syrgas, kväve, järn, nickel och pH. Miljöeffekterna uppträder i form av påverkan från metaller och utarmning av naturtyper, biotoper, arter etc. I samband med exponering skulle metallerna ha mycket toxisk effekt på de flesta vattenlevande djur och växter.

The aim of the study is to identify the contents of the fluids in indirect cooling systems and to assess their potential environmental impact of emissions. System fluid that was collected from system 5 to 8 in the return conduit on brine 1 in each system has high oxygen content, conductivity and chemical oxygen demand (COD), which gives great risk of degradation and corrosion. These systems should be degassed or replaced. System fluid from the system 3, 7 and 8 have shown that zinc and nickel concentrations have exceeded the limit values which could have toxic / very toxic effects on aquatic animals and plants. Copper, zinc and nickel inhibits nitrification, which means that they affect the biological treatment stage, out in the wastewater treatment plant negatively. It was revealed by the valuation model that there are seven main important parameters/components namely, COD (chemical oxygen demand), zinc, oxygen, nitrogen, iron, nickel and pH which have shown elevated concentrations in the fluid. Environmental impact is primarily in the form of the influence of metals and degradation of habitat, species etc. In conjunction with the release, metals would have very toxic effect on most aquatic animals and plants.
