Kulturološke nauke i komunikologija - Komunikologija / Communication Studies

Predmet istraživanja u ovom radu su ekspresivne mogućnosti virtuelnog komuniciranja koje se ostvaruje posredstvom umreženih kompjutera. Pod ekspresivnim mogućnostima podrazumevaju se simbolski i semiotički sistemi kojima se stvaraju, a potom i interpretiraju poruke. U radu se polazi od toga da su ove mogućnosti, kao i ograničenja, uslovljene medijima kao specifičnim tehničko-tehnološkim „aparatima“. U širem teorijskom opredeljenju rad je zasnovan na dva pristupa. Prvi je medijacentrični pristup, koji strukturu medija postavlja u centar razmatranja. Drugi je kritički pristup društvu i medijima, iz kojeg je preuzeto kritičko promišljanje recepcije. Teorijsko-metodološku spojnicu između ovih pristupa čine dva semiotička pravca: socijalna semiotika i kompjuterska semiotika. Prvi cilj disertacije bio je da se, polazeći od strukture medija, raščlane, analiziraju i sistematizuju ekspresivne mogućnosti u kompjuterski posredovanom komuniciranju, i konkretno u veb-komuniciranju. U odnosu na recepcijski pol komuniciranja, drugi cilj rada bio je da se utvrde načini na koje se subjektivitet korisnika konstruiše softverskim režimima i vizuelnom gramatikom interfejsa U radu je predložen model za razumevanje ekspresivnih mogućnosti u virtuelnom komuniciranju koji čine tri nivoa artikulacije: nivo softvera, nivo interfejsa i nivo multimodalnih sadržaja. Nivo softvera je određen tehničkim kodovima, nivo multimodalnih sadržaja nastaje na osnovu kulturnih kodova, dok se na nivou interfejsa prepliću tehnički i kulturni kodovi. Interfejs je posrednički sloj jer njegova artikulacija zavisi od softverskih specifikacija, a sa druge strane, vizuelna gramatika interfejsa utiče na nivo multimodalnih sadržaja. Multimodalni sadržaji su poruke koje su oblikovane ustaljenim društvenim kodovima „preuzetim“ iz prethodnih medija. Ipak, u prelasku iz jednog medija u drugi, sadržaji bivaju promenjeni, a ove promene zavise od softvera u kojem će multimodalni sadržaji biti stvoreni, softverske strukture kojom će biti distribuirani i od interfejsa u kojem će biti prikazani. Kako bi se ekspresivne mogućnosti novog medija povezale sa komunikacionom praksom i društvenim delovanjem, u radu je upotrebljen pojam žanra. U radu se polazi od psiho-socijalnog razumevanja žanra koje omogućava da se objasni prisustvo ekspresivnih mogućnosti prethodnih medija u novom. Takođe, žanr se koristi kao koncept kojim se povezuju stvaranje, recepcija i upotreba veb-sajtova. Kako bi se ispitala analitička i eksplanatorna vrednost predloženog modela, koji čine tri nivoa artikulacije, urađene su tri studije slučaja. Za analizu su odabrani vebsajtovi Blic onlajn (www.blic.rs), Jutjub (www.youtube.com) i Vikipedija (www.wikipedia.org). Osnovna hipoteza od koje se pošlo u analizi je da su razlike u realizaciji ekspresivnih mogućnosti u analiziranim veb-sajtovima uslovljene softverom, sa jedne strane, i žanrovski određenim razumevanjem korisnika i upotrebe veb-sajtova, sa druge strane. ▼ It is well-recognized that the development of user interfaces is one of the most time-consuming tasks in the overall application development process. At the same time, there is an increasing demand for rich and fluid user interfaces from web users. As a result, developers are facing increasing challenges in delivering web applications, especially those with rich UI requirements.In this thesis we present two solutions to facilitate the execution and rapid development of web applications with rich user interfaces. The first solution is a rich internet application (RIA) framework aimed at providing high usability and productivity to web applications, while the second solution is a UI integration framework that simplifies web application development by facilitating the composition of reusable UI components.The foundation of our RIA framework is an XML-based high-level protocol for communicating asynchronous events and incremental UI updates on the web. The protocol facilitates rich and highly interactive UI, while at the same time eliminates frequent and slow page refreshes and provides a more responsive user experience.Built on top of the protocol, a server-side runtime allows UI logic code to be executed on the server side, while a set of server-side event-driven API enables developers to implement sophisticated application-specific UI behavior. On the client side, a thin client renders UI and processes native events, but leaves application-specific logic to the server side. The thin client thus allows end users to enjoy a rich UI experience in a safe client environment, without executing any downloaded code.The proposed UI integration framework includes an abstract UI component model which allows UI components to be programmatically manipulated via events, operations, and properties, essentially exposing UI as services. To facilitate component interactions, the framework offers an event-based composition model, which allows integration logic to be specified in the form of event listeners.Composite applications are executed via a lightweight runtime middleware, which provides component adapters that allow the middleware to communicate with native UI components implemented in a variety of languages and platforms. Finally, a graphical development environment allows composite applications to be built in a drag-and-drop fashion. ▼ No mundo globalizado e competitivo, a sobrevivência de uma organização está relacionada a atrair e, principalmente, manter clientes (consumidores) através da prestação de serviços de qualidade. Atualmente, a forma mais usual de comunicação direta entre as organizações e seus (possíveis) clientes é através de aplicações baseadas na Web. Entre as vantagens deste tipo de aplicação estão a disponibilidade em tempo integral (24/7/365) e a facilidade de acesso, tendo em vista que o requisito inicial é apenas um computador com acesso à Internet. No contexto da disciplina de Engenharia de Software, as aplicações Web possuem características específicas que as diferem de aplicações tradicionais, especialmente no que se refere à interação com os usuários, e que devem ser consideradas adequadamente no processo de desenvolvimento. Entretanto, os processos de software tradicionais são dirigidos à funcionalidade e a parte do sistema responsável pela interação com os usuários é tratada com menor ênfase usualmente apenas na etapa de Implementação, ocasionando deficiências no produto e insatisfação dos usuários quanto ao uso do sistema. Neste cenário, este trabalho apresenta o método WE4UIV (Web Engineering User Interaction View), dirigido a modelos e baseado em componentes, cujo propósito é tratar os aspectos relacionados à visão de interação com os usuários de aplicações Web, nos níveis de análise e projeto, de modo a fornecer subsídios para orientar a etapa de Implementação. Além disso, visando acelerar e tornar menos manual a etapa de Implementação, este trabalho também apresenta uma ferramenta integrada a um ambiente de desenvolvimento para geração de código fonte a partir de artefatos de projeto descritos em UML. A abordagem apresentada neste trabalho pressupõe melhorias quantitativas no processo de desenvolvimento da visão de interação com os usuários, especificamente redução do tempo da etapa de Implementação e do índice de trabalho adicional causado por solicitações de mudança. A abordagem proposta é validada através de um processo de experimentação no contexto de um projeto real de desenvolvimento de software Advisors/Committee Members: BARROS, Roberto Souto Maior de (advisor).

▼ Commercial buildings consume more than 40% of the total energy consumption in the United States. Almost 90% of these buildings are small- and medium-sized buildings that do not have a Building Energy Management (BEM) system. The reasons behind this are – lack of awareness, unavailability of inexpensive packaged solutions, and disincentive to invest in a BEM system if the tenant is not the owner. Several open source tools and technologies have emerged recently that can be used for building automation and energy management. However, none of these systems is turnkey and deployment ready. They also lack consistent and intuitive navigation, security, and performance required for a BEM system. The overall project - of which this thesis research is a part - addresses the design and implementation of an open source secure web based user platform to monitor, schedule, control, and perform functions needed for a BEM system serving small and medium-size buildings. The focus of this work are: principles of intuitive graphical user interface design, abstracting device functions into a comprehensive data model, identifying threats and vulnerabilities, and implementing a security framework for the web platform. Monitor and control solutions for devices such as load controllers and sensors are abstracted and their decentralized control strategies are proposed and implemented using an open source robust scalable user platform accessible locally and remotely. The user platform is open-source, scalable, provides role-based access, dynamic, and modular in design. The comprehensive data model includes a user management model, device model, session model, and a scheduling model. The data model is designed to be flexible, robust and can be extended for any new device type. Security risks are analyzed using a threat model to identify security goals. The proposed security framework includes user authentication, device approval, role-based access, secure information exchange protocols, and web platform security. Performance of the user interface platform is evaluated for responsiveness in different screen sizes, page response times, throughput, and the performance of client side entities. Vi lever i spännande tider, där vi har tillgång till olika användargränssnitt som hjälper oss att kommunicera med andra människor i realtid, oavsett var i världen de befinner sig. Ricoh är ett globalt IT företag som har utvecklat ett kompakt videokonferenssystem för dessa ändamål som heter ”P3500M”. Utveckling av mjukvara för denna typ av teknologi kan medföra olika tekniska utmaningar. Samtidigt håller organisationer viktiga möten via videokonferens och ställer ofta höga krav på kvalitén. Att skapa ett användbart gränssnitt som beaktar alla dessa aspekter kan bli en utmanande uppgift. Denna studie syftar till att utveckla ett nytt konceptgränssnitt som effekti- viserar utveckling, samt användning av videokonferenssystem och P3500M används som en ut- gångspunkt. Genom att utnyttja framväxande webbaserade teknologier och riktlinjer från tidigare studier inom produktutveckling med användbarhet i fokus, har man i denna studie resulterat i skapandet av en designlösningen som heter ”Cloud Vision”. Studien föreslår ett nytt sätt att ut- veckla användbara gränssnitt för videokonferenssystem, genom utveckling av en central webbap- plikation som tillhandahåller gränssnittet. Med gränssnitt som kan appliceras på olika videokon- ferenssystem som en separat modul, oberoende av plattform, kan det bli lättare att underhålla utvecklingen och hålla fokus på användbarhetsperspektiven.

We live in exciting times, where we have access to different user interfaces that help us commu- nicate with other people in real-time, regardless of where they are in the world. Ricoh is a global IT company that has developed a compact videoconferencing system for these purposes, called ”P3500M”. Development of software for this type of technology can lead to various technical challenges. At the same time, organizations have important meetings through videoconferencing and often make high demands on the quality. To create a useful interface that takes all these aspects into account can be a challenging task. This study aims to develop a new concept interface that streamlines the development and use of videoconferencing systems, where P3500M is used as a starting point. By making use of emerging web technologies and guidelines from previous studies in product development with usability in mind, this study results in the creation of a new design called ”Cloud Vision”. The study proposes a new way to develop usable interfaces for videoconfe- rencing systems, through the development of a central web application that provides the interface. With interfaces that can be applied to various videoconferencing systems as a separate module, regardless of platform, it can be easier to maintain the development and keep focus on usability perspectives.

Este estudo de caráter teórico aborda as possibilidades de aplicação da linguagem visual no desenvolvimento de interfaces gráficas de websites, buscando compreender como os recursos dessa linguagem podem atuar como potencializadores do processo interativo entre o homem e o computador. A revisão bibliográfica, inicialmente, abrange o conceito de interface, caracterizando-o como um processo de tradução intersemiótica conforme conceito apresentado por Roman Jakobson. Apresenta as principais diretrizes e orientações que tradicionalmente são dadas aos projetistas de interfaces gráficas com o objetivo de torná-las mais eficientes. Discute as peculiaridades do meio digital a partir das características do leitor imersivo conceituadas por Lucia Santaella: a prontidão sensorial, a não linearidade da leitura e a interatividade. Por tratar-se de um processo de aquisição de linguagem, associa esse conjunto de fundamentações ao conceito de zona de desenvolvimento proximal enunciado por Vigotski e conclui que as interfaces gráficas baseadas em recursos da linguagem visual podem abrir mão das tradicionais convenções e padronizações e mesmo assim se manter eficientes. Sua relação de familiaridade não se dá com outras interfaces, mas sim com signos conhecidos pelo usuário fora da internet e, ao destacar o aspecto lúdico, tornam o processo interativo mais intenso, pois demandam maior envolvimento sensorial do usuário.

In this theoretical study, we examine the application possibilities of the visual language in the development of graphical user interfaces of institutional websites, seeking to understand how this language features can act as enhancer of the interactive processes between man and computer. The literature review, initially, covers the concept of interface highlighting the aspects of language by characterizing it as a process of intersemiotic translation as defined by Roman Jakobson. We present the main principles and guidelines traditionally imposed to interface designers in order to make them more efficient. We discuss the peculiarities of digital media based on the characteristics of the immersive reader, as stated by Lucia Santaella: sensory readiness, non-linearity of reading and interactivity. Since this is a process of language acquisition, this group of concepts is associated to the one of Vygotsky, the zone of proximal development and we conclude that the graphical user interfaces based on visual language can decline the traditional conventions and standards and still remain efficient. Their familiarity does not come from other interfaces, but from signs known to the user off the internet and, when they disregard the playfulness, they make the process a more intense interest as greater sensory involvement of the user is required.

▼ Celem niniejszej rozprawy doktorskiej było określenie wpływu responsywnego projektowania graficznego interfejsu użytkownika na efektywność mapy internetowej. Autor w badaniu posłużył się metodą eye-trackingową, ankietową oraz oceną użyteczności. Badanie polegało na przetestowaniu 6 wariantów graficznego interfejsu użytkownika mapy internetowej na monitorze komputera stacjonarnego oraz smartfonie. Warianty graficznego interfejsu użytkownika mapy internetowej bazowane były na wcześniejszych badaniach autorach oraz na dwóch popularnych serwisach mapowych: Google Maps oraz OpenStreetMap. W badaniu wzięło udział 240 studentów kierunku Geodezja i Kartografia Uniwersytetu im. Adama Mickiewicza w Poznaniu. Badanie zostało przeprowadzone w warunkach kameralnych na Wydziale Nauk Geograficznych i Geologicznych przy pomocy e etrackera Tobii X2-60. Res ondenci od owiadali na pytania przed rozpoczęciem zadań, wykonywali 3 zadania oraz odpowiadali na pytania po wykonaniu zadań. Pytania przed wykonaniem zadań skupiały się na charakterystyce badanej osoby oraz określeniu jak często korzysta ona z Google Maps, OpenStreetMap lub innego serwisu mapowego na komputerze czy smartfonie. Trzy zadania, które ankietowany miał do wykonania skupione były na wyszukaniu trzech najważniejszych funkcji mapy internetowej. W ten sposób autor uzyskał szereg odpowiedzi ankietowy, a co istotne otrzymał 720 fragmentów filmów odpowiadające każdemu zdaniu wykonanemu przez respondentów. Następnie autor przeszedł do analizy statystycznej uzyskanych danych. Wykorzystał on test normalizacji danych, test korelacji danych, test rho Spearmana dla danych nieparametrycznych oraz test Kruskala-Wallisa. Zauważono wiele istotnych statystycznie korelacji pomiędzy odpowiedziami ankietowymi a uzyskanymi wynikami czasowymi. Wyniki czasowe jakie zostały otrzymane lub obliczone to: czas do pierwszej fiksacji, czas do pierwszego kliknięcia oraz czas identyfikacji przycisku. Na podstawie tych wartości czasowych autor skonstruował współczynniki jako zależność trzech czasów. Współczynnik ten w sposób kompleksowy określa efektywność zaproponowanych wariantów graficznych interfejsów użytkownika map internetowych. Autor na podstawie całego badania doszedł do kilku kluczowych wniosków. Wnioski te tworzyły bezpośrednio wytyczne do tworzenia kolejnych map internetowych, a w szczególności graficznego interfejsu użytkownika. Najbardziej efektywnym wariantem okazało się rozmieszczenie przycisków według wcześniejszych badań autora, a nie według popularnych serwisów ma o Ch.
