Relatório de Estágio de Mestrado em Gestão do Território

O presente relatório de estágio foi efectuado mediante um estágio curricular na Câmara Municipal de Lagos, instituição da Administração Pública que tem como objecto a gestão do território do mesmo município. Os objectivos do estágio curricular eram: • Ter oportunidade de desenvolver competências num ambiente profissional e técnico; • Aperceber-me da aplicação prática “quotidiana” de temas abordados durante o curso; • Ter oportunidade de aplicar alguns desses conhecimentos a situações específicas; • Ter a possibilidade de desenvolver competências comportamentais transversais como: relacionamento interpessoal, autoconfiança, disciplina, métodos de trabalho, capacidade de cumprir prazos e horários, capacidade de integração em Organizações e equipas de trabalho. Não foi possível elaborar um plano de actividades para o estágio, no entanto, numa primeira fase, o objectivo foi o de me inteirar sobre as funções desempenhadas pelos geógrafos na Câmara Municipal, os seus objectivos, métodos de trabalho e as suas actividades. Depois de ultrapassada esta fase, tive como propósito enquadrar-me da legislação mais comummente utilizada pelos meus orientadores no local de estágio. Na fase seguinte, consultei todos os planos municipais de ordenamento do território já aprovados ou em processo de aprovação, como forma de aprofundar o conhecimento sobre o território em análise. A metodologia utilizada para o desenvolvimento do relatório, baseou-se na pesquisa e recolha de informação através de fontes da internet, da leitura de trabalhos retirados da internet, de fontes bibliográficas e da informação e dados recolhidos na Câmara Municipal, nomeadamente, a leitura de todos os Planos Municipais de Ordenamento do Território, Plano de Turismo, Ambiente, Social e Cultural, entre outros. O relatório de estágio está dividido em seis partes, sendo que a Introdução corresponde à primeira dessas partes. Depois da Introdução apresenta-se um breve enquadramento teórico sobre os temas abordados no relatório (cluster, governança territorial, planeamento, ordenamento, desenvolvimento e instrumentos de gestão teritorial em Portugal). Numa terceira parte, encontra-se o Enquadramento Geográfico do território em análise, com alguns dados estatísticos gerais e outros mais específicos. Na quarta parte do relatório entra-se pelo Planeamento Territorial aplicado ao município de Lagos. De seguida apresentam-se as Perspectivas de Desenvolvimento e Planeamento para o município de Lagos, terminando na sexta parte, com a Conclusão. A metodologia utilizada para o desenvolvimento do relatório, baseou-se na pesquisa e recolha de informação através de fontes da internet, da leitura de trabalhos retirados da internet, de fontes bibliográficas e da informação e dados recolhidos na Câmara Municipal, nomeadamente, a leitura de todos os Planos Municipais de Ordenamento do Território, Plano de Turismo, Ambiente, Social e Cultural, entre outros. RANKL et RANK sont membres de la superfamille des TNF et de la superfamille des TNF-récepteurs, respectivement. Ils sont connus pour jouer un rôle important dans la régulation de la masse osseuse et dans le développement et la fonction du système immunitaire. Cependant des questions restent. Nous avons utilisé des souris génétiquement modifiées pour répondre à certaines de ces questions, en particulier en utilisant une souris dont les cellules stromales réticulaires marginales manquent RANKL dans les ganglions lymphatiques. Les résultats obtenus lors de cette thèse fournissent de nouvelles informations importantes sur l'impact positif de RANKL stromal sur les macrophages des ganglions lymphatiques concomitantes avec une fonction des cellules B amélioré et une pathogénicité virale réduit. Nous avons constaté que RANKL stromal régule l'expression de lymphotoxine et CXCL13, deux molécules clés de l'homéostasie des cellules B et de l'intégrité cellulaire des organes lymphoïdes secondaires. L’activité du RANKL semble suivre une hiérarchie temporelle sur lymphotoxine/TNFα, vu que le phénotype causé par le déficit en RANKL a une pénétrance augmenté avec l'âge. De plus, nous démontrons que RANKL active les cellules endotheliales lymphatiques des ganglions lymphatiques et on a trouvé que l'intégrine ITGA2b est un nouvel indicateur pour les cellules endotheliales lymphatiques activés. Ainsi, avec MAdCAM-1, ITGA2b sert comme un nouveau marqueur pour les cellules endothéliales lymphatiques qui sont constitutivement activés par le RANKL stromal. Au total, les données confirment l'importance de RANKL pour l'homéostasie des ganglions lymphatiques et dévoile les mécanismes ci-inconnus des fonctions de RANKL. À la lumière de cela et le fait que RANKL est sensible aux hormones féminines, nous avons étudié le rôle de RANKL dans le syndrome de Sjögren, une maladie inflammatoire chronique des glandes salivaires et lacrymales avec une forte polarisation de sexe féminin. Nous apportons la preuve que la neutralisation du RANKL réduit la taille des organes lymphoïdes tertiaire. En perspective, une éventuelle diaphonie entre les cellules endothéliales lymphatiques et les macrophages ou les cellules réticulaires marginales reste à clarifier. En outre, d'autres travaux sont nécessaires pour élucider le mécanisme par lequel RANKL stimule les maladies inflammatoires chroniques présentant des structures lymphoïdes tertiaires, afin de faire RANKL une nouvelle cible pour la thérapie.

RANKL and RANK are members of the TNF-superfamily and TNF-receptor superfamily, respectively. They are known to play an important role in the regulation of bone mass and in the development and the function of the immune system. However questions still remain. ▼ There are enormous benefits for any organisation from practising sound records management. In the context of a public university, the importance of good records management includes: facilitating the achievement the university’s mandate; enhancing efficiency of the university; maintaining a reliable institutional memory; promoting trust; responding to an audit culture; enhancing university competitiveness; supporting the university’s fiduciary duty; demonstrating transparency and accountability; and fighting corruption. Records scholars and commentators posit that effective recordkeeping is an essential underpinning of good governance. Although there is a portrayal of positive correlation, recordkeeping struggles to get the same attention as that given to the governance. Evidence abounds of cases of neglect of recordkeeping in universities and other institutions in Sub-Saharan Africa. The apparent absence of sound recordkeeping provided a rationale for revisiting some universities in South Africa and Malawi in order to critically explore the place of recordkeeping in an organisation’s strategy in order to develop an alternative framework for managing records and documents in an era where good governance is a global agenda. The research is a collective case study in which multiple cases are used to critically explore the relationship between recordkeeping and governance. As qualitative research that belongs in the interpretive tradition of enquiry, it is not meant to suggest prescriptive solutions to general recordkeeping problems but rather to provide an understanding of the challenges and opportunities that arise in managing records and documents in the world of governance, audit and risk. That is: what goes on in the workplace; what are the problems; and what alternative approaches might address any existing problem situations. Research findings show that some institutions are making good use of their governance structures and other drivers for recordkeeping to put in place sound recordkeeping systems. Key governance structures and other drivers for recordkeeping identified include: laws and regulations; governing bodies; audit; risk; technology; reforms; and workplace culture. Other institutions are not managing their records and documents well despite efforts to improve their governance systems. They lack recordkeeping capacity. Areas that determine recordkeeping capacity include: availability of records management policy; capacity for digital records; availability of a records management unit; senior management support; level of education and training of records management staff; and systems and procedures for storage, retrieval and dispositions of records. Although this research reveals that the overall recordkeeping in the selected countries has slightly improved compared with the situation other researchers found a decade ago, it remains unsatisfactory and disjointed from governance. Mednarodna in globalna podjetja potrebujejo učinkovite informacijske sisteme in sicer za svoje interne in zunanje povezave. Ti sistemi morajo zagotavljati zanesljive informacije in njihovo hitro izmenjavo, kar je ključno v procesu sprejemanja poslovnih odločitev, za hitro reakcijo in kratek odzivni čas. Z uvajanjem in vzpostavitvijo ERP sistemov (Enterprise Resource Planning – poslovni informacijski sistem) družbe vodijo in obvladujejo procese planiranja in razporejanja virov, nadzor nad stroški ter pregled ekonomskih kazalnikov uspešnosti. Kakovost procesov in njihovo nenehno izboljševanje sta zelo pomembna dejavnika za uspešnost in učinkovitost poslovanja podjetja. Pri tem nam pomagajo različni sistemi vodenja, kot npr. sistem vodenja kakovosti, model poslovne odličnosti, sistem ravnanja z okoljem ipd. Osnovni poslovni informacijski sistemi običajno ne omogočajo zadostne informacijske podpore sistemu vodenja kakovosti oz. njihove aplikacije niso v celoti usklajene z zahtevami mednarodnih standardov vodenja kakovosti, ravnanja z okoljem oz. z različnimi modeli poslovne odličnosti, zato se podjetja odločajo za nakup posebnih programskih aplikacij za podporo kakovosti ali pa ostaja nivo njihovega obvladovanja kazalnikov kakovosti omejen na delo s preglednicami. Temeljni cilj pričujoče študije je, da na podlagi uporabljenih teoretičnih in metodoloških izhodišč predlaga razvoj modela informacijske podpore sistemu vodenja kakovosti kot posebnega modula »Modula Kakovost« v okviru poslovnega informacijskega sistema Infor ERP LN in da preveri njegovo splošno uporabnost v praksi. Obravnava teme v prvem, teoretičnem delu temelji na uveljavljenih izhodiščih razvoja sistemov vodenja kakovosti in modela poslovne odličnosti, poslovnih informacijskih sistemov ter stroških kakovosti. Drugi praktični del obsega zasnovo modela, ki je integriran v Infor ERP LN in predstavlja nadgradnjo njegove osnovne funkcionalnosti poslovnega informacijskega sistema. Predlagani model predstavlja novost v slovenskem prostoru in širše ter se uveljavlja v praksi. Je splošno uporaben in primeren za vsa podjetja, ki uporabljajo Infor ERP LN, ne glede na njihovo velikost ali dejavnost. Infor ERP LN v Sloveniji uporablja veliko število uveljavljenih podjetij.

▼ This dissertation studies a series of freeway and arterial traffic modeling, estimation and control methodologies. First, it investigates the Link-Node Cell Transmission Model's (LN-CTM's) ability to model arterial traffic. The LN-CTM is a modification of the cell transmission model developed by Daganzo. The investigation utilizes traffic data collected on an arterial segment in Los Angeles, California, and a link-node cell transmission model, with some adaptations to the arterial traffic, is constructed for the studied location. The simulated flow and the simulation travel time were compared with field measurements to evaluate the modeling accuracy.Second, an algorithm for estimating turning proportions is proposed in this dissertation. The knowledge about turning proportions at street intersections is a frequent input for traffic models, but it is often difficult to measure directly. Compared with previous estimation methods used to solve this problem, the proposed method can be used with only half the detectors employed in the conventional complete detector configuration. The proposed method formulates the estimation problem as a constrained least squares problem, and a recursive solving procedure is given. A simulation study was carried out to demonstrate the accuracy and efficiency of the proposed algorithm.In addition to addressing arterial traffic modeling and estimation problems, this dissertation also studies a freeway traffic control strategy and a freeway and arterial coordinated control strategy. It presents a coordinated control strategy of variable speed limits (VSL) and ramp metering to address freeway congestion caused by weaving effects. In this strategy, variable speed limits are designed to maximize the bottleneck flow, and ramp metering is designed to minimize travel time in a model predictive control frame work. A microscopic simulation based on the I-80 at Emeryville, California was built to evaluate the strategy, and the results showed that the traffic performance was significantly improved .Following the freeway control study, this dissertation discusses the coordinated control of freeways and arterials. In current practice, traffic controls on freeways and on arterials are independent. In order to coordinate these two systems for better performance, a control strategy covering the freeway ramp metering and the signal control at the adjacent intersection is developed. This control strategy uses upstream ALINEA, which is a well-known control algorithm, for ramp metering to locally maximize freeway throughput. For the intersection signal control, the proposed control strategy distributes green splits by taking into account both the available on-ramp space and the demands of all intersection movements. A microscopic simulation of traffic in an arterial intersection with flow discharge to a freeway on-ramp, which is calibrated using the data collected at San Jose, California, is created to evaluate the performance of the proposed control strategy. ▼ Osnovno pitanje ovog istraživanja se može formulisati na sledeći način: da li adolescenti sa izraženim smislom za humor ispoljavaju i viši nivo subjektivnog blagostanja? Smisao za humor je određen kao klaster osobina koji obuhvata karakteristike koje se tiču individualnih razlika u ponašanjima vezanim za humor kao što su produkcija humora, razumevanje i doživljavanje humora važnim (engl. humor appreciation; Martin, 1998; Ruch & Hofmann, 2012). Subjektivno blagostanje je definisano preko tripartitnog Dinerovog modela subjektivnog blagostanja i to kroz: često doživljavanje pozitivnog afekta, retko doživljavanje negativnog afekta i zadovoljstvo životom (Diener, 1984; 2012). Ovim istraživanjem je ispitivano kakva je povezanost između smisla za humor i indikatora subjektivnog blagostanja i da li na tu vezu utiču stilovi humora i osobine ličnosti. Takođe, ispitivana je i moderatorska uloga smisla za humor na povezanost između broja negativnih životnih događaja i subjektivnog blagostanja. U istraživanju su kao mera smisla za humor korišćene samoprocena i procena od strane drugih. Činjenica da humor predstavlja izuzetno poželjnu karakteristiku u okviru self koncepta i da većina ljudi veruje da je njihov smisao za humor u najmanju ruku prosečne vrednosti (Allport, 1961; Lefcourt & Martin, 1986) navela je na odluku o korišćenju dva načina procene. Takođe, različiti autori ukazuju na socijalnu prirodu smisla za humor kao i na to da se najčešće javlja spontano u interpersonalnim relacijama (npr. Martin, 1998). Istraživanje je sprovedeno na uzorku srednjoškolaca (357 devojaka i 172 mladića). Prosečna starost uzorka iznosi 17.36 (SD = .64), raspon godina od 15 do 20. Na osnovu spiskova sa imenima učenika iz svih razreda, koji su prikupljeni uz pomoć školskih psihologa, pristupljeno je sastavljanju Skale procene smisla za humor (SzH). Svaki učenik je u okviru svoje baterije testova popunjavao SzH skalu sastavljenu od imena svih učenika njegovog razreda i četvorostepene skale procene. U okviru pomenute skale, svaki učenik je procenjivao i stepen svog smisla za humor. Od instrumenata, uz SzH skalu, korišćeni su: Satisfaction with Life Scale (SWLS; Diener, Emmons, Larsen, & Griffin, 1985); Scale of Positive and Negative Experience (SPANE; Diener et al., 2009); Humor Style Questionnaire (HSQ; Martin et al., 2003); Big Five Inventory (BFI; John & Srivastava, 1999); Skala depresivnosti, preuzeta iz Depression, Anxiety and Stress Scale (DASS-21; Lovibond & Lovibond, 1995) i Serbian Life Events Check-List-Adolescent Form (SLEC-AF; Gavrilov-Jerković, Jovanović, Žuljević, & Brdarić, 2012). Rezultati istraživanja su pokazali da postoji pozitivna povezanost između smisla za humor i subjektivnog blagostanja, da samoporažavajući stil umanjuje jačinu date povezanosti, da ekstraverzija i savesnost pojačavaju njihovu povezanost, dok otvorenost umanjuje jačinu date povezanosti. ▼ There are enormous benefits for any organisation from practising sound records management. In the context of a public university, the importance of good records management includes: facilitating the achievement the university’s mandate; enhancing efficiency of the university; maintaining a reliable institutional memory; promoting trust; responding to an audit culture; enhancing university competitiveness; supporting the university’s fiduciary duty; demonstrating transparency and accountability; and fighting corruption. Records scholars and commentators posit that effective recordkeeping is an essential underpinning of good governance. Although there is a portrayal of positive correlation, recordkeeping struggles to get the same attention as that given to the governance. Evidence abounds of cases of neglect of recordkeeping in universities and other institutions in Sub-Saharan Africa. The apparent absence of sound recordkeeping provided a rationale for revisiting some universities in South Africa and Malawi in order to critically explore the place of recordkeeping in an organisation’s strategy in order to develop an alternative framework for managing records and documents in an era where good governance is a global agenda. The research is a collective case study in which multiple cases are used to critically explore the relationship between recordkeeping and governance. As qualitative research that belongs in the interpretive tradition of enquiry, it is not meant to suggest prescriptive solutions to general recordkeeping problems but rather to provide an understanding of the challenges and opportunities that arise in managing records and documents in the world of governance, audit and risk. That is: what goes on in the workplace; what are the problems; and what alternative approaches might address any existing problem situations. Research findings show that some institutions are making good use of their governance structures and other drivers for recordkeeping to put in place sound recordkeeping systems. Key governance structures and other drivers for recordkeeping identified include: laws and regulations; governing bodies; audit; risk; technology; reforms; and workplace culture. Other institutions are not managing their records and documents well despite efforts to improve their governance systems. They lack recordkeeping capacity. Areas that determine recordkeeping capacity include: availability of records management policy; capacity for digital records; availability of a records management unit; senior management support; level of education and training of records management staff; and systems and procedures for storage, retrieval and dispositions of records. Although this research reveals that the overall recordkeeping in the selected countries has slightly improved compared with the situation other researchers found a decade ago, it remains unsatisfactory and disjointed from governance. ▼ Talent management (TM), both as a practice and an academic sub-discipline, lacks a strong conceptual foundation. This limitation significantly inhibits understandings of TM in its international dimensions. Accordingly the overarching aim of this thesis is to contribute to an overdue reassessment of TM within the international context by redressing the empirical and theoretical deficiencies, which are a direct hindrance to development of the field. The philosophy adopted was interpretivist, involving qualitative methods, that is, semi-structured interviews and documentary analysis were employed in data collection from 17 informant companies based in several European countries. This study makes highly significant contributions in four major ways. Firstly, the empirical contribution is made through employing two phases of primary research. Phase One was an exploration of TM practices in 14 internationally operating organisations representing eight industries. Out of Phase One arose the notion of expectations as a key influence shaping TM in practice as well as indicating managerial and individual dimensions. Thus Phase Two explored the conceptualisation and operationalisation of TM from the perspective of management, on the one hand and talented employees, on the other. This was a highly significant step in the understanding of TM, because most empirical studies have tended to focus on managerial views. Secondly, the methodological contribution results from the novel adoption of narratives in analysing case studies. This approach made it possible to gain insights into TM as lived experience especially on the part of employees selected as talented. Thirdly, the conceptual contribution arose from (i) contrasting and distilling the essence of many lax definitions of talent and TM; (ii) identifying the visible and invisible elements of TM in the domain of practice and(iii) employing a dual theoretical framework which integrated human capital theory and expectancy theory. Significantly the dual framework also offers a re-conceptualisation of TM as a social process in which various stakeholders are revealed to have disparate interests. Indeed the framework led to the notion of fracture in TM as a result of misalignment of expectations of management, on the one hand, and talent-managed employees, on the other. Lastly, by dint of the dual theoretical framework the study adds to the understanding of TM a new lens through which senior managers (and researchers) can clearly identify the gap between managerial intentions and the practical reality.

▼ This thesis presents an investigation into the role played by laboratory records in the disciplinary discourse of academic molecular biology laboratories. The motivation behind this study stems from two areas of concern. Firstly, the laboratory record has received comparatively little attention as a linguistic genre in spite of its central role in the daily work of laboratory scientists. Secondly, laboratory records have become a focus for technologically driven change through the advent of computing systems that aim to support a transition away from the traditional paper-based approach towards electronic recordkeeping. Electronic recordkeeping raises the potential for increased sharing of laboratory records across laboratory communities. However, the uptake of electronic laboratory notebooks has been, and remains, markedly low in academic laboratories. The investigation employs a multi-perspective research framework combining ethnography, genre analysis, and reading protocol analysis in order to evaluate both the organizational practices and linguistic practices at work in laboratory recordkeeping, and to examine these practices from the viewpoints of both producers and consumers of laboratory records. Particular emphasis is placed on assessing variation in the practices used by different scientists when keeping laboratory records, and on assessing the types of articulation work used to achieve mutual intelligibility across laboratory members. The findings of this investigation indicate that the dominant viewpoint held by laboratory staff other than principal investigators conceptualized laboratory records as a personal resource rather than a community archive. Readers other than the original author relied almost exclusively on the recontextualization of selected information from laboratory records into ‘public genres’ such as laboratory talks, research articles, and progress reports as the preferred means of accessing the information held in the records. The consistent use of summarized forms of recording experimental data rendered most laboratory records as both unreliable and of limited usability in the records management sense that they did not form full and accurate descriptions that could support future organizational activities. These findings offer a counterpoint to other studies, notably a number of studies undertaken as part of technology developments for electronic recordkeeping, that report sharing of laboratory records or assume a ‘cyberbolic’ view of laboratory records as a shared resource.

No contexto actual da indústria, as cartas de controlo são ferramentas extremamente úteis e relevantes no suporte ao Controlo Estatístico de determinado processo produtivo, disponibilizando uma conjunto de informação fiável para a análise fundamentada do mesmo. Através da escolha criteriosa de diversos parâmetros inerentes às cartas de controlo disponibilizados numericamente através de tabelas e respectiva monitorização, é possível detectar, com elevados níveis de fiabilidade, eventuais alterações nos parâmetros do processo que se encontram sob estudo. Considerando processos nos quais se pretende aferir da variabilidade da dispersão, e tendo por base a carta de controlo CUSUM-ln(S2), existem tabelas de resultados disponíveis para consulta de parâmetros relevantes no âmbito da mesma. No entanto estas tabelas normalmente contêm apenas um conjunto limitado de dados relativos a situações mais comuns de ocorrer em contexto de produção. Deste modo sempre que é necessário abranger outros casos menos comuns, mas igualmente importantes, estas ferramentas de análise tornam-se omissas, pois não contemplam uma elevada gama de casos. É igualmente importante referir que não são disponibilizados os ábacos referentes às tabelas numéricas. Para além disso não existe, tanto quanto se sabe, uma ferramenta que permita a geração de resultados para a carta de controlo CUSUM-ln(S2) em forma de tabela e ábacos para diferentes casos. Nesse sentido, este trabalho visa dar resposta a estas lacunas, propondo uma abordagem de simulação alternativa sob a forma de uma Ferramenta Computacional de Suporte ao Controlo Estatístico (FCSCE), desenvolvida em ambiente Matlab e de acordo com um procedimento sequencial, para a obtenção dos diversos parâmetros relativos à carta de controlo CUSUMln( S2) considerando diversos cenários possíveis de serem estudados. Espera-se que esta ferramenta computacional represente um contributo relevante para todos aqueles que utilizam frequentemente técnicas de controlo estatístico de processos.

Cette recherche traite de la dynamique du renseignement dans la relation diplomatique de l’Etat à la Société des Nations et aux Nations Unies, de son articulation avec la diplomatie dans l’élaboration d’une politique étrangère à la SDN et à l’ONU. L’enjeu est de définir les leviers théoriques de l’articulation stratégique entre les services diplomatiques et les services de renseignement au cours de moments historiques précis et marquants des appréhensions, des objectifs, des moyens de mise en œuvre et de conduite des politiques d’influence des Etats dans les organisations internationales. A la SDN puis à l’ONU, nous étudierons le renseignement par le biais de son évolution vis-à-vis de ces nouveaux cadres internationaux, des figures et des jeux d’espions qui entourent les activités des organisations internationales, puis au cours de temps diplomatiques forts qui ont renforcé son rôle dans les organismes internationaux. Cette étude revisite l’histoire des relations internationales et des grandes institutions multilatérales telle qu’elle a été appréciée par les services de renseignement. Nous verrons ainsi que le renseignement à la SDN et à l’ONU se construit en fonction des impératifs diplomatiques comme un outil traditionnel de puissance et d’influence, un instrument de force et d’intégration de la politique étrangère des Etats. Il permettra de se projeter dans une actualité très contemporaine avec toute la profondeur de l’Histoire.

States are encouraged to spy on international organizations, as much on the structures themselves as on the members who compose them, because these organizations have determined since 1920 the role and power of states in the international order. This research deals with the intelligence process in the State diplomatic relation with the League of Nations (LN) and the United Nations (UN), and its coordination with diplomacy in developing a foreign policy within the LN and the UN. What is a stake is to define the theoretical levers of strategic coordination between the diplomatic and intelligence services during specific historical moments of apprehensions, objectives, means of implementation and conduct of policies of influence of states within international organizations. In the LN then in the UN, we will study intelligence through its evolution with regard to the new international frameworks, figures and spy games around the activities of international organizations and during strong diplomatic times which strengthened its role in international bodies. This study revisits the history of international relations and major multilateral institutions as it was appreciated by the intelligence services. ▼ U savremenoj nastavi klavira učenicima se postavlja sve veći broj zahteva od samog početka školovanja, usled konstantnog napretka savremenog pijanizma. Istovremeno, nastava klavira nije obavezna za pohađanje, a njeni ciljevi nisu samo školovanje budućih profesionalnih muzičara, već i buduće koncertne publike. Povećanjem obima i nivoa nastavnog gradiva u osnovnim školama i umnožavanjem zahteva u nastavi klavira, uz razumevanje da nastava klavira nije obavezna za pohađanje, javlja se potreba za razmatranjem mogućnosti novih pristupa u radu sa učenicima. Značajan faktor nastave su udžbenici, zbog čega je predmet ove disertacije proučavanje kvaliteta savremenog udžbenika za nastavu klavira kao faktora nastave kojim se može uticati na celokupnu nastavu klavira. Uzimajući u obzir da su udžbenici u nastavi klavira neophodni u radu sa početnicima mlađeg školskog uzrasta zbog potpuno novog nastavnog gradiva koje im se prezentuje, predmet ove disertacije je upravo proučavanje kvaliteta savremenih udžbenika za navedeni uzrast i nivo sviranja učenika. Problemsko polje disertacije obuhvata razmatranje mogućnosti analize savremenih udžbenika za klavir, postavljanjem analitičkog okvira kao osnove za istraživanje. Cilj ove disertacije je istraživanje kvaliteta postojećih udžbenika za nastavu klavira za početnike mlađeg školskog uzrasta u kategorijama kvaliteta: nastavnih sadržaja, didaktičkog oblikovanja nastavnih sadržaja i jezika i drugih medija udžbenika. Instrument istraživanja su standardi i indikatori kvaliteta za udžbenike za klavir kreirani na osnovu analitičkog okvira izvedenog iz relevantne naučne literature i formulisanog u teorijskom delu ove disertacije. U disertaciji se koristi metoda komparativne analize sadržaja za proučavanje tri inostrana i jednog nacionalnog udžbenika za klavir za početnike mlađeg školskog uzrasta, a analizirani udžbenici su: 1. Na osnovu dobijenih rezultata istraživanja utvrđeno je da analizirani udžbenici u dovoljnoj meri ispunjavaju zahteve postavljene instrumentom istraživanja. Rezultati istraživanja ukazuju da se najznačajnija razlika među analiziranim udžbenicima sastoji u načinu didaktičkog oblikovanja nastavnih sadržaja. Dovodeći u vezu potrebe savremene nastave klavira i rezultate sprovedenog istraživanja, u disertaciji su formirane implikacije za kreiranje novog savremenog udžbenika za nastavu klavira za početnike mlađeg školskog uzrasta. ▼ This thesis is about broadsheet coverage of the European Parliament (EP). More precisely, it studies the amount and content of news referring to the EP as well as the professional attitudes of their producers. The main purpose of the thesis is to explain variation in the press coverage. Thereby it combines political communication research with the European integration literature discussing the legitimacy of the EP. It argues that cross-country and inter-temporal variation cannot be explained by factors internal to news production alone. Instead, national parliamentary traditions impact profoundly on the way EU parliamentary affairs are reported. The thesis employs a mixed-methods research design. It conducts a quantitative content analysis of 18 broadsheets published in six European countries – Ireland, the United Kingdom, France, the Netherlands, Germany and Austria – over three time periods: one is a routine period of two years; the remaining two datasets are oriented at key issues and events over time. In total, 3956 newspaper articles are analysed. In addition, 18 in-depth interviews with the respective Brussels correspondents and a director at the EP Directorate-General for Communication complement the findings. While the EP receives regular coverage, the thesis finds that news are selected and presented according to the interest of the audience. Hence the domestic angle prevails in the news coverage and the EP’s own prominence and potential to generate conflict attract media attention more often when major issues are at stake. However, domestic relevance is not the only explanatory factor. While newsmakers also respond to varying levels of public support for EU membership, the thesis identifies national parliamentary traditions as a strong external driver of EP news coverage. Here, procedural characteristics and public expectations shape the amount and content of EP news as well as newsmakers’ attitudes – and more significantly so with the rising powers of the Parliament.

▼ This thesis presents an investigation into the role played by laboratory records in the disciplinary discourse of academic molecular biology laboratories. The motivation behind this study stems from two areas of concern. Firstly, the laboratory record has received comparatively little attention as a linguistic genre in spite of its central role in the daily work of laboratory scientists. Secondly, laboratory records have become a focus for technologically driven change through the advent of computing systems that aim to support a transition away from the traditional paper-based approach towards electronic recordkeeping. Electronic recordkeeping raises the potential for increased sharing of laboratory records across laboratory communities. However, the uptake of electronic laboratory notebooks has been, and remains, markedly low in academic laboratories. The investigation employs a multi-perspective research framework combining ethnography, genre analysis, and reading protocol analysis in order to evaluate both the organizational practices and linguistic practices at work in laboratory recordkeeping, and to examine these practices from the viewpoints of both producers and consumers of laboratory records. Particular emphasis is placed on assessing variation in the practices used by different scientists when keeping laboratory records, and on assessing the types of articulation work used to achieve mutual intelligibility across laboratory members. The findings of this investigation indicate that the dominant viewpoint held by laboratory staff other than principal investigators conceptualized laboratory records as a personal resource rather than a community archive. Readers other than the original author relied almost exclusively on the recontextualization of selected information from laboratory records into ‘public genres’ such as laboratory talks, research articles, and progress reports as the preferred means of accessing the information held in the records. The consistent use of summarized forms of recording experimental data rendered most laboratory records as both unreliable and of limited usability in the records management sense that they did not form full and accurate descriptions that could support future organizational activities. These findings offer a counterpoint to other studies, notably a number of studies undertaken as part of technology developments for electronic recordkeeping, that report sharing of laboratory records or assume a ‘cyberbolic’ view of laboratory records as a shared resource.
