Nackbesvär är vanligt förekommande vid datorarbete. Stående datorarbete har i visats ha en gynnsam effekt på nackbesvär. Nackflexion kan ge en ökad belastning på nacken. Syftet med studien var att jämföra flexion i nacken vid sittande och stående datorarbete för personer som utför datorarbete under en stor del av dagen i sitt ordinarie arbete. Sammanlagt tio personer, åtta kvinnor och två män, som arbetar på en företagshälsovård deltog i studien. De arbetade med datorarbete i växel, kundservice, sjukvårdsrådgivning eller sjuk och frisktjänst (en tjänst där arbetsgivare får hjälp att hantera sjuk och friskanmälningar, sammanställning av sjukskrivningsstatistik samt med rådgivning till sjukskrivna). Nackflexion mättes vid två tillfällen, två timmar per person, sittande och stående under en timme var. Mätningarna gjordes med triaxiala accelerometrar med placering i pannan, över Thorakalkota I samt på utsidan av låret för att säkerställa positionen. Den relativa vinkeln mellan Thorakalkota I och pannan utgjorde flexionsvinkeln. Ingen 0-position användes vid beräkningen. Resultat: Jämförelsen av nackflexion mellan sittande och stående datorarbete kunde i den här studien inte påvisa någon skillnad mellan de två positionerna (medelvärde för nackflexion i sittande 29,2°, stående 28,1°, p:0,35) . Resultaten i den här undersökningen stödjer behovet av att undersöka fler variablar än nackflexion för belastning av nacken vid stående och sittande datorarbete till exempel om den spänning i nackmuskulaturen som arbete med armarna kan ge skiljer sig mellan de olika positionerna.

Neck pain is frequent during computer work. Standing during computer work has been shown to have a beneficial effect on neck pain. Flexion of the neck may cause an increased load on the neck. The aim of this study was to compare flexion of the neck while sitting and standing during computer work for people who perform computer work during most of the day in their regular work. Ten individuals, eight women and two men, working in an occupational health service participated in the study. They worked with computer work in customer service, healthcare advice or sickness and recovery service (a service where employers get service to carry out sickness and recovery notifications, statistics of sick leaves, and counseling services to persons on sick leave). Neck flexion was measured on two occasions, during two hours per person each time, sitting and standing for one hour each. The measurement was made with triaxial accelerometers placed on the forehead, on Thoracic segment I, and on the outside of the thigh to verify the positions. The relative angle between Thoracic segment I and the forehead formed the flexion angle. No 0-position was used in the calculations. Although sitting is a large part of everyday life is the influence of the sitting positions and chair design on pressure and load distribution as well as comfort for transfemoral amputees quite unexplored. The aim of this study was therefore to examine this further. Two transfemorally amputated females (49 and 57 years old) participated in the study. Three positions were examined for each subject; sitting without foot support and sitting with the knee joints flexed 90◦ and 105◦. The pressure inside the socket was measured by two pressure sensors, placed distally and proximally on the posterior wall inside the socket. The lengthwise pressure distribution and the sidewise load distribution between the socket and the underlying material was measured by a pressure mat. In addition to this, the subjects answered a questionnaire regarding the subjective comfort for each position. The result showed that the pressure underneath the socket were higher distally than proximally without foot support. The pressure transferred proximally as the knee became more flexed. The most even load distribution sidewise was found when the subjects sat with their knees flexed 105 degrees. Sitting with the knees flexed 90◦ was ranked as the most comfortable position. No conclusion could be made regarding the pressure inside of the socket. Additionally, according to this study the level of comfort does not have any clear relation with the sidewise load distribution or the longitudinal pressure distribution.

En stor del av livet spenderas sittandes, men den påverkan som sittposition och stoldesign har på tryckfördelning och komfort för transfemoralt amputerade är ganska outforskat. Studien ämnar därför undersöka detta. Två transfemoralt amputerade kvinnor (49 och 57 år) medverkade i studien. Tre sittpositioner undersöktes för varje testperson; sittande utan fotstöd samt sittande med knäleden i 90◦ respektive 105◦ flexion. Trycket inuti hylsan mättes med hjälp av två trycksensorer, som placerades distalt och proximalt på den bakre hylsväggen. Tryckfördelningen i längsriktningen och lastfördelningen i sidled mellan hylsan och underlaget mättes med en tryckmatta. Förutom detta svarade testpersonerna även på ett frågeformulär angående den subjektiva komforten för varje position. Resultatet visade att trycket under hylsan var högre distalt än proximalt när inget fotstöd användes. Trycket förflyttades proximalt då knät böjdes. Den mest jämna lastfördelningen mellan sidorna påträffades när knät var flekterat 105◦. Enligt frågeformuläret var den mest bekväma positionen den med 90◦ i knäleden. Ingen slutsats kunde göras angående trycket inuit hylsan. Ingen tydlig relation kunde heller inte hittas mellan den subjektiva komforten och tryck- eller lastfördelningen.

Koffein har sedan 1962 fram och tillbaka varit dopingklassat men är sedan 2004 ett tillåtet ergogent preparat inom idrotten. Flera studier har visat positiva resultat i uthållighetsidrotter och på maximal styrkeförmåga. Syftet med denna studie var att se om koffein har någon ergogen effekt på power i överkroppsmuskulaturen. I denna studie användes en dubbel-blindad, randomiserad cross-over design. En slumpmässig indelning inför det första testtillfället avgjorde ifall deltagarna började studien med koffein- eller placebosupplementering och bytte sedan supplementering inför testtillfälle två. Som supplementeringsmetod användes koffein i tuggummiform på grund av att det ger ett snabbare upptag. Power mättes genom testet sittande stöt med en kula på 5 kg. Resultatet visar på en mycket svag (ES=0,13) positiv förbättring av stötlängderna mellan interventionerna. En av anledningarna till det triviala resultatet tros kunna bero på att det urval som användes ej bestod av en homogengrupp vad gäller träningsbakgrund och prestationsnivå. På grund av detta är det svårt att dra några slutsatser om koffeinet har eller inte har några ergogena effekter på power i överkroppen.

Since 1962 Caffeine has been off and on the doping classification list, since 2004, it has been permitted as an ergogenic agent in sport. Several studies have shown positive ergogenic effects in endurance sports and in maximum strength capacity. The purpose of this study was to determine if caffeine has any ergogenic effect on power in the upper body. In this study, a double-blind, randomized cross-over design was used. Participants were randomly selected to start the intervention with either caffeine or placebo supplementation and then have the alternative supplementation before a second test, held after a 48 hour washout period. A supplementation method Caffeinated chewing gum was used as a supplementation method due to its faster uptake by the body. The distance that a 5 kg shot put could be launched from a sitting position was used as a measure of upper body power. The results showed a 1,7 % but trivial (ES = 0.13) difference in shot put lengths between the interventions, in favour of the caffeine 3 intervention. One of the reasons for the lack of a clear ergogenic effect is believed to be due to the non-homogenous group, in terms of training background, level of performance and the resulting low level of within-participant reliability. Because of this it is difficult to draw any conclusions regarding caffeine and its ergogenic effects on power in the upper body.

Nowadays, prolonged sitting among office workers is a widespread problem, which is highly related to several health problems. Many proposals have been reported and evaluated to address this issue. However, motivating and engaging workers to change health behavior to a healthier working life is still a challenge. In this project, a specific application has been deployed for real-time monitoring and alerting office workers for prolonged sitting. The proposed system consists of three distinct parts: The first one is an android smartwatch, which was used to collect sensor data e.g., accelerometer and gyro data, with a custom android wear app. The second one is an android application, which was developed to act as a gateway for receiving the smartwatch’s data and sending them to IBM Bluemix cloud with MQTT protocol. The final part is a Node-Red cloud application, which was deployed for storing, analyzing and processing of the sensor data for activity detection i.e., sitting or walking/standing. The main purpose of the last one was to return relevant feedback to the user, while combining elements from gaming contexts (gamification methods), for motivating and engaging office workers to a healthier behavior. The system was firstly tested for defining appropriate accelerometer thresholds to five participants (control group), and then evaluated with five different participants (treatment group), in order to analyze its reliability for prolonged sitting detection. The results showed a good precession for the detection. No confusing between sitting and walking/standing was noticed. Communication, storage and analysis of the data was successfully done, while the push notifications to the participants, for alerting or rewarding them, were always accurate and delivered on time. Every useful information was presented to the user to a web-based dashboard accessed through a smartphone, tablet or a PC. The proposed system can easily be implemented at a real-life scenario with office workers. Certainly, there is a lot space for improvement, considering mostly the type of data registered at the system, the method for sitting detection, and the user interface for presenting relevant information.
