▼ Medical equipment manufacturing companies that provide maintenance and product take-back programs have limited information about location and severity of defects, and the condition of the product before making decisions about whether to repair, recycle, remanufacture, refurbish or call-back and scrap the product. The first step is to estimate the
residual value of the product. The current methods depends on the owner-claimed condition of the product and the number of accessories. However, the claimed condition is highly subjective and of high degree of variability, even of the same claimed condition and number of accessories. Such high variability in real
value is considered to be caused by different working environments and customer user behavior. This thesis proposes a sensor based model to more accurately predict
residual value and the actual condition of the product based on measuring the environment and working condition of the product real-time. The model provides suggestions for each individual product based on its quality level and component reliability level. A patient monitor was used as an example. The simulated result showed that the proposed method could significantly reduce the loss from variance in quality of products.

▼ Modern engines are faced with increasingly stringent requirements for reduced fuel consumptionand lower emissions. A technique which can partly be used to reduce emissionsof nitrogen oxides is recirculation of combusted gases (Exhaust Gas Recirculation, EGR). Ingasoline engines, it also has the advantage that it can save fuel by reducing pumping losses.To large mixture of EGR in the air to the cylinders will however affect the combustion stabilitynegatively. To investigate EGR rate and dynamics with respect to different actuatorinputs, the thesis develops an engine model that includes EGR. The model focus on the airflow in the engine and extends an existing mean value engine model. Two types of EGRsystemare investigated. They are short-route EGR which is implemented between intakemanifold and exhaust manifold and long-route EGR which is implemented between compressorand turbine. The work provides a simulation study that compares both stationaryand transient properties of the two EGR-systems, such as fuel consumption, maximum EGR,and rise time with respect to different actuators.

▼ Females across taxa increase fitness by investing resources and care to offspring. However, numerous intrinsic and extrinsic factors influence both female and offspring performance and survival. Such complexity leads to tradeoffs in investment and variety in investment strategies. For iteroparous species, females must balance investment into reproduction with their own survival and future reproduction. In this dissertation, I examine how females balance numerous pressures on investment with an emphasis on how investment strategies vary across life.
In chapter two, I tested how maternal predation risk influences nest-site choice, and how maternal responses to risk affect offspring survival in painted turtles (Chrysemys picta). I compared young and old mothers to assess if response to risk varies depending upon maternal age. I predicted that young mothers would invest heavily in themselves (i.e., nest closer to the safety of water) whereas older mothers would invest more into current reproduction (i.e., nest farther from the shore because of lower nest predation risk). Contrary to predictions, neither young nor old females altered how far they nested from water after perceiving elevated risk. Nevertheless, older females nested farther from water than younger females, which is likely driven by lower future reproductive potential (i.e., residual reproductive value, RRV) in older females.
In chapter three, I assessed how offspring phenotype influences investment strategy in common snapping turtles (Chelydra serpentina). I released hatchling turtles at varying distances from water and monitored survival during overland dispersal. Survival decreased with dispersal distance. However, bigger hatchlings were less affected by increasing dispersal distance. Moreover, females producing larger and better dispersing offspring oviposited farther from water than females that produced smaller and poorer dispersing offspring. These findings suggest female investment can be sensitive to offspring phenotype and that such covariation between nest-site choice and offspring dispersal ability can maximize offspring survival and, thus, maternal fitness.
In chapter four, I examined how age and RRV compare in explaining variation in a risky investment behavior (i.e., distance females construct nests from water) in painted turtles. Previous work (in addition to chapter 2) has shown that older females nest farther from water than younger mothers and suggested this effect is driven by RRV. I predicted that RRV would explain more variation in distance to water than age because RRV accounts for any nonlinearity in future reproductive potential across age. Contrary to my prediction, age was a better predictor of nest distance to water than RRV. This finding suggests a stronger correlate of age (e.g., body size) may be more responsible for shaping the distance females nest from water than previously appreciated.

We employ a panel error correction model, estimated with Engle & Granger’s (1987) two-step procedure and the single equation methodology. The models are estimated with FE-OLS and the MG-estimator.</em> We find that stock prices adjust previous periods equilibrium error. Further, we find that book value has short and long-term effects on stock prices. Finally, this paper finds mixed results regarding residual incomes impact on stock prices. The MG-estimator finds evidence for a short-term relationship, while the FE-OLS provides insignificant or weak support for short-term effects. FE-OLS and MG-estimator find insignificant or weak support regarding residual incomes long-term effects.

▼ The main objective of the study was to estimate
non-market
value of irrigation water as an
input in sugar cane
production in the Lowveld of Swaziland. This study used two
independent approaches to non-market valuation, the
residual value
and production function
approaches, to calculate the
value that
sugar cane farmers in the Lowveld region of
Swaziland attach to
irrigation water. The former estimated the average
value of water,
while
the latter estimated the marginal
value. The study also
estimated the output elasticity of
irrigation water, identified
factors determining irrigation water values, and used stochastic
frontier analysis to estimate farmers’ technical efficiency (TE)
scores, and investigated the
relationship hypothesised between
irrigation water values and TE. Irrigated sugar cane
production
was specifically selected for this study on account of its
socio-economic
importance in Swaziland.
Using data obtained from
78 sugar cane farms, the mean estimated
value of irrigation water,
measured in Emalangeni per metre cubed, was E1.60/m3 using the
residual value approach,
and E1.51/m3 using the production
function approach. A t-test showed that the observed
differences
between the values estimated from the two independent approaches
were not
statistically significant, suggesting that either method
can be used to
value irrigation water
employed in sugar cane
production in Swaziland. The results from the t-test, in
conjunction with the economic theory of duality, also allow us to
conclude that the production technology
employed by irrigation
sugar cane farmers exhibits constant returns to scale. Irrigation
water
was output inelastic (0.711), lending additional credence to
the constant returns technology
conclusion. The
value calculated
for irrigation water was negatively related to irrigation
water
quantity, suggesting that price can be used as an instrument to
directly regulate the
quantity of irrigation water the farmer
employs. The
value calculated for irrigation water was
negatively
related to quantities of labour, quantity of irrigation water used,
fertilizer and
chemicals employed, suggesting that price can be
used as an instrument to indirectly regulate
the quantity of
irrigation water the farmer employs. The
value imputed for
irrigation water
was positively related to farm size and total
revenue, suggesting that the more resourceendowed
farmers can
potentially pay higher for irrigation water. It is thus conceivable
to
design irrigation water pricing policies with equity
considerations. TE scores ranged from
0.397 to 0.955, with a mean
of 0.840. Farmers with higher TE scores also had higher implicit
values for irrigation water, suggesting that irrigation water
pricing can be used as a tool for
motivating resource use
efficiency.
The key policy implication derived from this study is
that price-based instruments have a
potential in the management of
scarce irrigation water resources in Swaziland.

▼ Tutkimuksessa määritettiin suomalaisen ayrshire-populaation jalostettaville ominaisuuksille taloudelliset arvot bioekonomisen mallin perusteella. Uutena ominaisuutena malliin lisättiin rehuhyötysuhde, joka mallinnettiin residuaalisena syöntinä (RFI, residual feed intake), koska ollaan kiinnostuneita maidontuotannon haitallisten ympäristövaikutusten vähentämisestä. Tutkimuksessa tarkasteltiin myös, kuinka mahdollinen rehukustannuksen nousu tulevaisuudessa vaikuttaa taloudellisiin arvoihin.
Jalostettavien ominaisuuksien taloudelliset arvot määritettiin ECOWEIGHT-ohjelmistolla. Bioekonominen malli sisälsi yhteensä 21 eri ominaisuutta: maidontuotanto-ominaisuudet, kasvu- ja teurasominaisuudet, sekä muita ominaisuuksia: poikimavaikeus, hedelmällisyys, vasikkakuolleisuus, kestävyys, soluluku, utareterveys ja residuaalinen syönti (RFI). Ominaisuuksille määritettiin marginaaliset taloudelliset arvot sekä suhteelliset taloudelliset painokertoimet.
Tutkimuksen tulosten perusteella tuotannon kannattavuus oli negatiivinen (?13,3 %), kun tuotantotuet jätettiin huomioimatta. RFI:n lisääminen taloudellisiin arvoihin ei muuttanut muiden ominaisuuksien taloudellisia arvoja, eikä sillä ollut vaikutusta ominaisuuksien suhteellisissa painoarvoissa ominaisuuksien keskinäiseen järjestykseen. RFI:n marginaaliset taloudelliset arvot olivat ?55,8 €/kg/pv (lehmät) ja ?24,9 €/kg/pv (hiehot).
Suhteellisissa taloudellisissa painokertoimissa suurimmat arvot sai 305 pv:n maitotuotos (36 %), valkuainen (14 %), rasva (9 %), aikuispaino (7 %) ja poikimaväli (5 %). RFI:n painokertoimet olivat 4,6 % (lehmät) ja 1,5 % (hiehot).
Rehukustannuksen nousu (10, 30 ja 50 %) muutti ominaisuuksien keskinäisiä suhteita suhteellisissa taloudellisissa painokertoimissa. Maidontuotanto-ominaisuuksien painoarvot pienenivät ja kasvuominaisuuksien, RFI:n ja poikimavälin painoarvot suurenivat. Lehmien RFI kasvoi rehukustannuksen noustessa 30 % viidenneksi merkittävimmäksi ominaisuudeksi poikimavälin ja kestävyyden ohi.
Näiden tulosten perusteella voisi ehdottaa RFI:n lisäämistä jalostustavoitteisiin, etenkin jos tulevaisuudessa annetaan enemmän painoarvoa tuotannon ympäristövaikutuksille tai jos rehukustannus tulee nousemaan merkittävästi. RFI:stä kaivattaisiin kuitenkin vielä lisätutkimusta ennen sen lisäämistä jalostustavoitteisiin.

▼ In 2004, the Sacramento Area Council of Governments (SACOG) adopted a ???Preferred Growth Scenario??? to guide land use decisions and shape the region???s growth in a manner consistent with seven key principles. One of the principles was housing choice and diversity, which focused on providing an assortment of housing types, such as multi-family rental homes, attached condominiums and townhouses, and small single-family detached homes for a variety of household types, income levels, and ages. Using a
residual land
value calculation, my research tested whether development impact fees and other infrastructure charges imposed on new development discourage the construction of multi-family condominiums (for sale) and apartments (for rent) in El Dorado Hills, Rancho Cordova, and Roseville, California. When landowners bear the incidence of the development impact fees and infrastructure charges, both multi-family scenarios produced non-positive or inadequate land values in my three study jurisdictions. Shifting the incidence of the development impact fees and infrastructure charges forward to the consumer in the form of higher housing prices and rental rates produced positive and acceptable land values under the condominium scenario, but the apartment scenario remained non-positive in each of my study areas. My research has revealed that jurisdictions charging impact fees on a flat fee basis by housing category may discourage the production of multi-family housing. To expand the supply of multi-family dwellings and other types of affordable housing, proportional-share or variable impact fees eliminate the regressive nature of a one-size-fits-all-approach by accounting for variations in product type, unit size, density, and number of bedrooms.

▼ Residual value is defined as the price for which a used piece of equipment can be sold in the market at a particular time. It is an important element of the owning costs of equipment and needs to be estimated by equipment managers for making investment decisions.
The purpose of this study is to gain insights into the
residual value of selected groups of heavy construction equipment and to develop a mathematical model for its prediction. Auction sales data were collected from two online databases. Manufacturer publications and an online source provided size parameters and manufacturers suggested retail prices matching the auction records. Macroeconomic indicator values were collected from a variety of sources, including government agencies. The data were brought into the same electronic format and were matched by model name and calendar date, respectively.
Data from auctions in the U.S. and in Canada were considered for this study. Equipment from four principal manufacturers of up to 15 years of age at the time of sale was included. A total of 35,542 entries were grouped into 11 different equipment types and 28 categories by size as measured by horse power, standard operating weight, or bucket volume. Equipment types considered were track and wheel excavators, wheel and track loaders, backhoe loaders, integrated toolcarriers, rigid frame and articulated trucks, track dozers, motor graders, and wheel tractor scrapers.
Multiple linear regression analyses of the 28 datasets were carried out after outliers had been deleted. Explanatory variables for the regression model were age in years, the indicator variables manufacturer, condition rating, and geographic region, and selected macroeconomic indicators. The response variable was
residual value percent, defined as auction price divided by manufacturers suggested retail price. Different first, second, and third-order polynomial models and exponential and logarithmic models of age were examined. A second-order polynomial was selected from these functional forms based on the adjusted coefficient of determination. Coefficients for the 28 models and related statistics were tabulated. A spreadsheet tool incorporating the final regression model and its coefficients was developed. It allows performing the
residual value prediction in an interactive and intuitive manner.

▼ Induction hardened components rely heavily on both the hard martensite formed in the case during processing and the corresponding compressive
residual stresses to improve fatigue performance of a component. In this study, 1045, 4145, and 1060 steel alloys were characterized and fatigue tested with cantilever bending in the as hot-rolled, normalized, or quenched and tempered conditions. The alloys were induction hardened to achieve either "low" or "high" case depths. Post-induction hardening characterization included
residual stress depth profiles, microhardness traverses, and microstructure analysis in the as-processed and run-out at the endurance limit (1.5x10(to the 7th power)cycles) conditions. The experimentally determined endurance limits were found to scale first by core microstructure with ferrite/pearlite microstructures exhibiting the lowest endurance limits followed by bainitic microstructures and finally tempered martensite microstructures. Within the tempered martensite core microstructures of the 1045 and 4145 conditions, the endurance limit was found to increase by increasing the core hardness. Fatigue testing elucidated the competing crack nucleation mechanisms (i.e. microstructural feature versus inclusion controlled crack nucleation). Fatigue cracks only nucleated from microstructural features in the 1045 normalized low and high case depth condition as well as the 4145 hot rolled high case depth condition. However, fatigue cracks nucleated from both inclusions and microstructural features in the 1045 quenched and tempered low and high case depth, 4145 hot rolled low case depth, 4145 quenched and tempered low case depth, and 1060 normalized conditions. The microstructural feature responsible for crack nucleation in some conditions was characterized with advanced microscopy utilizing a focused ion beam (FIB) and electron backscattered diffraction (EBSD). Characterization of the 1045 normalized condition revealed a ferritic region with fatigue induced deformation substructure in the crack nucleation area. The crack nucleation region in the 4145 hot rolled condition was associated with the bainitic microstructure. Because of the prominence of inclusions nucleating fatigue cracks in some conditions, extreme
value statistical (EVS) analysis was undertaken based on an inclusion survey of the 1045, 4145, and 1060 alloys. By combining EVS analysis with a fracture mechanics methodology, the endurance limit of the induction hardened samples was conservatively estimated within 5-15 pct. of the experimentally determined endurance limits. A Woodvine analysis, modified by incorporating
residual stress, was also performed by comparing the local fatigue resistance based on the local microhardness to the effective stress (applied stress plus the
residual stress). The modified Woodvine model successfully predicts the nucleation locations of fatigue cracks observed during fatigue testing and provides insight on the effects of case depth, selection of core microstructures, and
residual stress on fatigue resistance.

▼ Globally the construction is a major contributor to the severity of the anthropogenic environmental impact. The sector emits 39% of the global CO2 and is responsible of 40-50% of material flows. The focus of reducing the environmental impact in buildings is, in the past, mostly attributed to the operational energy. However, due to increasing renewables and efficiency, that share is declining. Making the embodied impact in a building relatively more significant. The structure encompass the largest part of the embodied impact in buildings. The materials, components, and systems embedded in a structure are often still of high
value when the building reaches its end of life, i.e. the technical service life is not yet achieved. To reduce the environmental impact of structures and therefore buildings as a whole, one should integrate design measures for new constructions to grasp the most
value out of the incurred embodied impact. Three eco-effective structural design criteria are established that encapsulate the structure's whole life cycle - material environmental costs (product and construction stage), service life (use stage), and
residual value (end of life and benefits beyond system boundary stage). These structural design criteria are merged from the following structural design perspectives - material selection and material use (material environmental costs); durability, maintenance, adaptability, and flexibility (service life); and waste effectiveness, disassembly, reusability, and recyclability (
residual value). In the eco-effective paradigm, one focuses on the future
value of a product. This may entail that more material environmental costs could be made, but in the end you will be rewared with either a longer service life or more
residual value. Therefore, the emphasis is put on the latter two structural design criteria. A crucial bottleneck of not attaining the technical service life of a structure on a building level, is the functional service life. The functional service life should be equalized with the technical service life to grasp the full potential of a building structure. Three strategies have been constructed based on the structural design perspectives and the structural design criteria. Design for Durability; thus, equalizing the functional service life with maximization of the technical service life. For this strategy, it is imperative that solely one function will inhabit the building. Examples are churches, temples, museums, i.e. buildings with a sentimental and/or historical
value. The second strategy is Design for Multifunctionality. This is for buildings that have proven not to stand the test of time. Therefore, conditions should be created in the structure that it could be possible for the function to be converted (n functional service life = technical service life). ▼ Vi undersöker tillgångsrecognition vid återköpsavtal med garanterade restvärden, och hur köpare kan redovisa transaktionen för en materiell anläggningstillgång när avtalet innehåller en återköpsoption. Studien behandlar frågan om kontroll över tillgångar, konsekvenser av koherens respektive inkoherens för finansiella rapporters användbarhet, samt huruvida redovisningen reflekterar återköpsavtals ekonomiska substans. Vi genomför en innehållsanalys för att systematiskt kartlägga köparens olika redovisningsalternativ. Vidare används typfall för att möjliggöra analys av identifierade standarder och riktlinjers tillämpning. Vi finner att IFRS saknar transaktionsspecifika riktlinjer som riktar sig mot köparen. De standarder och riktlinjer som i det principbaserade redovisningssystemet finns tillgängliga för tolkning är vaga, i den bemärkelse att de lämnar utrymme för olikheter i bedömningar, vilket i sin tur har en negativ effekt på finansiella rapporter jämförbarhet och användbarhet. Vidare identifierar studien bristen på tydliga riktlinjer som en risk för medveten manipulation och förekomst av earnings management.
We examine asset recognition for repurchase agreements with guaranteed residual values, and how buyers can account for the transaction for a tangible fixed asset when the contract contains a repurchase option. The study deals with the issue of control over the asset, the consequences of symmetry and asymmetry for the usefulness of financial reports and whether the accounting reflects the financial substance of repurchase agreements. We conduct a content analysis to systematically map out the buyer's different accounting options. Furthermore, typical cases are used to enable analysis of identified standards and guidelines. We find that IFRS lacks transaction-specific guidelines that target the buyer. The standards and guidelines that are available for interpretation in the principle-based accounting system are vague in that they leave room for differences in assessments, which in turn have a negative effect on comparability and usefulness in financial reports. Furthermore, the study identifies the lack of clear guidelines as a risk of deliberate manipulation and the occurrence of earnings management.This paper is written in Swedish.

▼ Previous academic literature examining the performance of private equity funds has documented that the average private equity fund has failed to outperform public equity markets. This underperformance coupled with a greater risk-return trade-off has failed to discourage investment in private equity markets. In fact, private equity firms have enjoyed record amounts of fund raising over the past several years. This phenomenon has been characterized as a puzzle and its investigation within the academic literature has only just begun. Using a unique and current data set covering private equity returns and their underlying cash flows, we examine performance measurements of private equity funds in the context of their relationships with one another and with public markets; as well as, examine the characteristics of the funds and their managers that drive these relationships. Our findings suggest that private equity investors are partially motivated by misinterpreted performance measurements and that this misinterpretation is compounded by fund reported
residual values. These findings have important policy implications for both private equity fund managers and investors.

This stand was pruned and thinned and then harvested at 15 years old. An estimate of per-hectare log yields and diameters was made from the stand. Sample logs were sawn, dried and profiled, then products quantified. Log prices were estimated using the residual value method. Prices were summed for sawn products from each log, from which processing expenses and sawmill profit were deducted for an estimate of log value. In the absence of market prices for sawn E. nitens products empirical estimates of price were derived from market survey data. Predictive models were produced from estimated stand log yields along with predicted product revenues and processing costs from sample logs. These were used for estimating per-hectare log residual values from the case study stand trees. Financial returns to the grower were then calculated as discounted cash flows from the estimated log residual values per hectare, taking into account grower costs along with harvesting and transport costs. Best-practice processing methods were identified from the literature and applied as a productivity benchmark. Methods were developed with the view to standardising data across research efforts that seek to improve grade recoveries for E. nitens. A range of factors were investigated that potentially influenced E. nitens log residual value in this case study, including log diameter and log position. Outcomes included a reasonably favourable return on investment for the grower. However, this depended on a number of factors such as land price, distance from processor, product prices, grading methods, drying methods and level of sawmill profit. The application of contemporary best practice small-scale processing methods indicates that E. nitens has potential as a profitable plantation species for solid timber production.

Embora o poder calorífico da cana-de-açúcar seja documentado em diversos trabalhos na literatura, em nenhum deles é registrado o histórico de disponibilidade hídrica no solo durante o crescimento da planta; deste modo levanta-se a hipótese que as plantas sob stress hídrico tendo um maior teor de fibra, apresente um poder calorífico diferenciado das plantas que não passaram por stress hídrico. O objetivo deste estudo foi apresentar o poder calorífico, a energia útil e cinzas da biomassa particionada seca de oito variedades de cana-de-açúcar (V1, V2, V3, V4. V5, V6, V7 e V8), submetidas a diferentes disponibilidades hídricas no solo durante o processo de crescimento das plantas através da irrigação por gotejamento (L50, L75, L75* e L100) sob diferentes processos de maturação com base em déficit hídrico na fase final de crescimento (M1, M2, M3 e M4). Determinou-se o poder calorifico superior da biomassa particionada em açúcar, bagaço, bainhas, folhas, perfilhos mortos, ponteiro e raízes de cana-de-açúcar utilizando um calorímetro isoperibólico Parr 6200, seguindo a norma ASTM D5468-02. A produção da cana-de-açúcar analisada foi realizada em ambiente protegido na Escola Superior de Agricultura \"Luiz de Queiroz(̈USP). A análise de variância univariada (ANOVA), de cada variável de resposta, correspondeu a um delineamento de três blocos casualizados com esquema experimental de parcelas sub-subdivididas (split-split-plot); resultando um total de 396 unidades experimentais. Em cada parcela, foram plantadas duas touceiras de cana (réplicas). A média observada do poder calorifico superior obtido para o bagaço, as bainhas, as folhas e os ponteiros, respectivamente, foi 18,16; 17,21; 17,64; e 17,84 MJ⋅kg-1. A ordem de grandeza do potencial energético da cana-de-açúcar é dada principalmente pela biomassa. A energia total média medida foi 1241,87 GJ⋅ha-1 (71,41 t MS) e a energia útil média estimada foi 660,29 GJ⋅ha-1 (36,90 t MS). Estimou-se que em média são produzidas 0,54 toneladas de cinzas por hectare.

▼ Cette thèse de doctorat s’intéresse fondamentalement au traitement de la question suivante : quelle forme d’association entre les données comptables et les valeurs de marché subsiste dans le contexte de forte volatilité et de haut risque propre aux marchés émergents ? Pour atteindre ce but, deux modèles ont été utilisés dans ce travail : le modèle d’évaluation par les résultats résiduels (ou residual income model R.I.M) et celui de l’évaluation par la croissance anormale des résultats (ou abnormal earnings growth A.E.G).Dans cette étude, un modèle de type R.I.M. est développé avec des hypothèses particulières concernant la capacité de l’entreprise à créer de la valeur et ses implications ont été testées empiriquement sur un échantillon comprenant des entreprises provenant d’Amérique du Nord, d’autres pays développés et d’un ensemble de pays émergents sur la période2000-2007. Les résultats obtenus soulignent que le degré d’association entre les valeurs comptables et les valeurs de marché dépend du stade de croissance et des modes de financement utilisés par les firmes. Si les indicateurs comptables de croissance et d’endettement apportent une information complémentaire significative dans les pays développés, leur contribution est très modeste dans le cas des pays émergents.Le développement d’un modèle d’évaluation de type AEG (initialement proposé par Ohlson & Juettner-Nauroth), incluant une modélisation de l’évolution des rentes attendues compatible avec des conditions de concurrence pure et parfaite nous permet de proposer une relation testable entre la valeur de marché d’une action, le résultat net par action attendu dans un an,son taux de croissance à court terme et un ensemble de variables comptables composant un indicateur synthétique de croissance de l’entreprise. Nos résultats montrent (1) que l’accroissement attendu du bénéfice par action est associé significativement au cours boursier (surtout pour les pays développés), (2) mais que, comme le suggère notre modèle, la persistance de ses effets est limitée (surtout pour les pays émergents), (3) que lorsque la dynamique de la croissance est plus complexe, l’inclusion d’une variable synthétique apporte un terme correctif significatif (4) et enfin que le coût du capital implicite est sensiblement plus élevé pour les pays émergents que pour les pays développés
This dissertation on emerging markets is driven by one fundamental question, i.e., is there any association between accounting data and market values in high risk and volatile emerging markets. ▼ Most machine learning algorithms perform poorly on datasets with skewed feature values distribution. Skewed feature values are commonly observed in biological and medical datasets. This poses a challenge for the classification of medical data. Neuro-fuzzy systems are common machine learning approaches in the medical domain because of their ability to learn fuzzy rules from training data and represent the rules in an understandable way. Therefore, addressing skewness in neuro-fuzzy systems is a topic of interest because of their applicability in the medical domain. In this thesis, the NEFCLASS neuro-fuzzy classifier is extended to provide improved classification accuracy over the original NEFCLASS classifier when trained on skewed data. In order to improve accuracy, we used two methods. Firstly, we used two alternative discretization methods. Secondly, we devised several asymmetric linguistic hedges. The accuracy-transparency trade-off is also one of the most notable challenges when applying machine learning tools in the medical domain. Therefore, the second problem addressed is improving the transparency of NEFCLASS without significant accuracy deterioration. We have devised a statistical rule pruning algorithm which uses adjusted residuals to reduce the number of rules, thus improving transparency. Moreover, a hybrid approach combining the above approaches is proposed. The algorithms have been evaluated on synthetic F-Distributed and Circular-Uniform Distributed datasets. Additionally, they have been assessed using real-world electromyography and Wisconsin Diagnostic Breast Cancer datasets, which are known to have highly skewed feature values. We evaluated the accuracy of the classifiers using misclassification percentages, and the transparency of the rule-based classifiers using the number of rules. Both independently and in combination, our three approaches provide a considerable improvement in classification accuracy and transparency on skewed data. This research can contribute to an improvement in decision-making in healthcare or any other area where a significant fraction of the domain data has highly skewed distributions of feature values. In particular, our strategy has led to greater diagnostic accuracy to distinguish neuromuscular diseases using electromyography data. This methodology is not limited to NEFCLASS and neuro-fuzzy systems because our approaches are not directly tied to the structure of NEFCLASS. Hence, we expect that our techniques can be applied to any application in which fuzzy logic is used. Furthermore, our rule pruning approach has the potential to be used in other fuzzy and non-fuzzy classifiers.

▼ In recent years, international developments have highlighted the interconnected functioning of the global economy among countries. Turbulence that led to crises and recovery, made it necessary to full disclosure of the source of wealth business. In the modern economy, the main comparative advantage of each company, provides the intangible property to which shareholders and investors should obtain full knowledge, for it and the business, must obey international standards for recording and disclosure of property in order to be shared and comparable recording this. This thesis focuses on the research and development costs and effort evaluating the criteria based on which investors assess the value of any business. For this purpose it was collected items from the Athens Stock Exchange (Ase), for the period covering after the mandatory adoption of international accounting standards by the greek listed companies until 2012. With the help of models of Sougiannis (1994) and Bushee (1998), attempting the examination and analysis of the importance of information contained in research and development costs and if this information is helpful to investors, as based on previous investigations (Baber et al., 1991, 1994, Bushee Sougiannis, 1998, Hall, 2006, Oriani & Anagnostopoulou & Levis, 2008, Karjalainen, 2008, Cincera & Ravet, 2010, Duqi & Torluccio 2011). The thesis examines, taking account of the Greek economic crisis, whether and to what extent, the realization costs of research and development, has a positive impact on their value as assessed by the market. The results are directly comparable with previous projects in other European countries, but also in non-European countries (USA, Australia).

▼ Pri tipičnem lizinškem dogovoru o poslovnem najemu osebnega vozila, finančna inštitucija (najemodajalec) kupi novo vozilo od pooblaščenega trgovca in ga daje v najem fizični ali pravni osebi (najemojemalcu). Pri večini tovrstnih najemov gre za najeme zaprtega tipa (angl. closed-end lease), kar pomeni, da tveganje morebitne razlike med tržno vrednostjo predmeta najema in njegovim preostankom vrednosti v času izteka najemne pogodbe, ostaja pri najemodajalcu.
Velik del od strani najemojemalca odplačanih najemnin skozi pogodbeno obdobje predstavlja razlika med nabavno vrednostjo predmeta najema in njegovim preostankom vrednosti. Preostanek vrednosti je tista vrednost vozila, ki ne bo pokrita z odplačilom mesečnih obrokov najemnine, ki jih bo najemodajalcu skozi trajanje najemne pogodbe odplačal najemojemalec. Je tudi neamortizirana nabavna vrednost vozila, zmanjšana za del depreciacije, nastale v času trajanja najemne pogodbe in je nenazadnje tudi ocena bodoče vrednosti vozila v času izteka pogodbe o poslovnem najemu, ki jo najemodajalec postavi neodvisno od tržne vrednosti le-tega.
Ex-ante določeni kalkulirani preostanek vrednosti naj bi bil v idealnih okoliščinah enak njegovi kasnejši tržni oziroma dejanski odkupni vrednosti. Interes najemodajalca je namreč ustvarjati prihodke iz naslova poslovnega najema osebnega vozila in ne iz naslova njegove kasnejše (od)prodaje). S ciljem omejitve tržnega tveganja iz naslova morebitnih izgub pri odprodaji osnovnih sredstev v času izteka pogodbe o poslovnem najemu, mora tako le-ta posebno pozornost namenjati nekaterim dejavnikom, ki imajo na določanje odkupne vrednosti osebnega vozila pomembnejši vpliv. To magistrsko delo se je omejilo na podrobnejšo obravnavo vpliva znamke, barve, dodatne opreme, poškodb in emisij CO2 na slednjo.
Izsledki raziskave na podlagi pridobljenih sekundarnih podatkov podjetja X, kažejo, da ima znamka pomemben vpliv na odkupno vrednost osebnih vozil, pri čemer velja dodati, da slovenski kupec še vedno bolj preferira vozilo nemškega, kot pa denimo francoskega porekla. Močna povezanost obstaja tudi med dodatno opremo in odkupno vrednostjo osebnih vozil, vendar je le-ta izrazitejša pri dražjih osebnih vozilih, dočim pri vozilih z nižjo odkupno vrednostjo na slednjo nima bistvenega vpliva. Glede priljubljenosti barv potrjuje izvedena raziskava podobna dognanja kot v tujini, saj pri izbiri barv pri osebnih vozilih v poslovnem najemu prednjačijo srebrna, siva, črna in bela vozila. Dodam lahko, da je povezanost med barvo in odkupno vrednostjo osebnih vozil večja v višjih tržnih segmentih. Kljub temu, da na podlagi pridobljenih rezultatov izvedene raziskave ni moč z gotovostjo trditi, da obstaja povezanost med emisijami CO2 in odkupno vrednostjo osebnih vozil v poslovnem najemu, bi na omenjeno temo raziskave gotovo veljalo nadaljevati tudi v prihodnje, saj evropske uredbe o določitvi standardov emisijskih vrednosti za nove osebne avtomobile v sklopu celostnega pristopa EU za zmanjšanje emisij CO2 na področju prometa, med drugim opredeljujejo velike olajšave…

▼ This study investigates the information content of valuation models and, especially, focuses on Economic Value Added (EVA). In detail, is given a thorough analysis of the explanatory power of EVA with respect to stock returns and firms’ market value, compared to Residual Income, Net Income and Operating Income. The ultimate goal is to determine EVA's ability to be, as the American business consulting firm Stern Stewart & Co., claims, a comprehensive financial management system. The idea of value creation, in the sense of making a profit that exceeds the cost of capital, has been the subject of study and research by economists since the 19th century. The first to point out, the importance of capital expenditure, was the famous Cambridge economist Alfred Marshall (1890). According to Marshall, the profit of a business unit arises after it covers the operating costs and the cost of the invested funds. However, the starting point for the outbreak of empirical studies was G. Bennett Stewart's book "The Quest for Value" (1991) in which the author presents Economic Value Added as a financial management system with greater correlation with the real value of a company than the accounting measures of performance. This study is conducted with the aim of drawing practical conclusions useful to both managers and investors. In this line, three hypothesis are thoroughly examined: i) EVA explains the variability of stock returns better than Net Income, Operating Income and Residual Income (Relative Information Content), ii) EVA provides information content, useful in explaining the variability of stock returns, which is not incorporated in Net Income, Operating Income and Residual Income (Incremental Information Content), iii) The correlation between EVA and MVA is higher than the correlation between Net Income, Operating Income, Residual Income and MVA (Market Value Added). The first empirical chapter examines the Relative Information Content of EVA. In particular, it is being investigated whether the information content enclosed in EVA, explains the variability of stock returns, better than other performance measures (Net Income, Operating Income and Residual Income). For the purposes of the study, the following analyzes were performed: Examination of the Relative Information Content for the period 2000 - 2016 and for the sub-periods: Α΄(2000 - 2008) and Β΄ (2009 - 2016), joint examination of the Northern European Countries (developed countries), joint examination of the countries of the European South (developing countries). Moreover, the first sectoral analysis is being conducted in the field of EVA. All of the above analyzes were performed twice, with the dependent variable being: i) the annual abnormal stock returns and also ii) the raw annual stock returns. The second empirical chapter attempts to investigate the Incremental Information Content provided by EVA. ▼ Dutch developers are thought to have been able to outcompete the owners of existing office space on rental pricing (the phenomenon). For tenants it was more inexpensive to move to newly proposed (not yet existent) office space than to remain where they are, or move to other existing office space. Three theoretical reasons were identified for the phenomenon to exist: 1) rent price lagging of existing assets to new market information, 2) lower production costs for the new development and 3) the creation of margin between development costs and asset selling price. Especially the latter has had influence on the phenomenon's existence. Three main aspects are identified for the creation of margin: 1) A period of Yield Compression (2004-2008) enabled great selling prices to be obtained. Thereby margin was created. It also led to a decrease in financing costs and allowed for the neglect of given lease incentives by developers, 2) the use of the normative residual land value method enabled margin to exist altogether and allowed for additional margin to be created, and 3) the use of Lease Incentives by the developer has shown to have an amplifying effect: Profit Sharing/the High-Low Method effectively lowers the rent level of the tenant by making maximum use of the created margin. There are many factors, such as long-term depression and industrial moving, to induce Taiwanese corporations into financial distress since the Asian Financial Crisis erupted in 1997. In research of financial distress, itâs difficult to distinguish the exact factors that whether financial aspect or other aspect cause financial distress. Management normally will take improvement actions in operation or financial respects when it perceives certain aspects getting worse. In practice, organization reforming and changing top management team may be the most popular and effective solutions. But, the effects for adopting such actions are uncertain. Therefore, those financial-distress corporations after taking successful improvements in change management are worth the research of its improvement procedures and methodologies.
Many researchers evaluate corporation performance using certain financial ratio such as earnings per share (EPS), return on equity (ROE), and return on investment (ROI). According to the earning calculation as required in Generally Accepted Accounting Principle (GAAP), some expenditures which will make corporation benefit from a long-term respect are expensed currently. This result may understate current period and overstate future period earning and assets. Management may reduce this kind of expenditures when EPS is the only indicator for performance evaluation. Economic
Value Added (EVA), one valuation method based upon
residual income, will improve above-mentioned shortcomings of traditional performance evaluation. The major concept of EVA is that adjustment of accounting accounts is necessary to get real
value of corporation and corporation needs to earn profit exceeding return of costs of capital to create
value of shareholder.
The case in my research, Y company, expanded its investment in Compact Integrated Steel Mill project which was announced in 1992. However, after Asian Financial Crisis in 1997, Y companyâs operation was getting worse and was unable to repay its bank loans. Y company then became a financial-distress corporation. The top management was changed after the majority shareholdings of Y company were transferred to C company. Since ownership change, Y company made organization reforming with âTheory Eâ first and âTheory Oâ second. We adopt EVA as the vehicle to assess the performance of new managementâs improvement. In our research, EVA of Y company was turnaround after C companyâs acquisition of Y companyâs shareholdings and its top management was totally changed.

▼ The project goal was to determine the effect of divergent selection for residual feed intake (RFI) on feeding either a high energy, low fiber (HELF) or a low energy, high fiber (LEHF) diet on carcass composition and quality traits. In experiment 1, 177 pigs of the ISU divergently selected RFI lines were randomly assigned to 8 mixed line and sex pens with 4 pens per diet. Slaughter occurred in 3 groups at a mean pig body weight of 121.5 kg. Data were analyzed using the mixed procedure of SAS with fixed effect of line, diet, sex, line*diet; random effects of slaughter group (SG), pen, litter and sire; off-test weight was as a covariate. Carcasses from LRFI animals has less fat depth, and greater loin depth and percent lean (<0.01), while carcasses from animals on the LEHF diet had a lesser HCW, fat depth, and greater percent lean (P<0.01). These data were also collected over generations (G) 8 and 9 on 315 pigs (G8=158, G9=157) on FIRE feeders; 6 pens of each diet per G. Pigs from G8 were harvested at a mean of 122.5 kg, and G9, 128.4 kg. Data were analyzed using the mixed procedure of SAS with fixed effect of line, diet, sex, G (except adipose), line*diet; random effects of SG, pen, litter, sire, and sensory day (sensory traits, cook loss, and star probe); off-test weight was fit as a covariate. Unlike experiment 1, loin depth tended to be greater carcasses from LRFI than HRFI pigs (P=0.09). Diet impacted composition the same as experiment1, except LEHF animals had a lesser loin depth (P<0.05) than HELF. LRFI animals on the HELF diet had the greatest loin depth (P<0.01) compared to other line by diet combinations. Loins from HRFI animals had greater drip loss, color scores, LM a* and b*, percent lipid, and lesser percent moisture (P<0.05). Chops from animals on the LEHF diet had lesser LM and adipose L* values and greater percent moisture than those from pigs fed the HELF diet. HRFI animals on the HELF diet had loins with the greatest percent lipid (P<0.05). Chops from LRFI pigs were juicer than those from HRFI (P<0.05), and gilts produced tougher loins than barrows (P<0.05). At 5 d postmortem (PM) loins from HRFI animals showed greater 38 kDa desmin degradation product (P=0.05), and d 2 PM loins from LRFI pigs on LEHF diet had the greatest degradation (P<0.05). Gilts (P=0.06) and LEHF (<0.01) fed pigs had adipose tissue with higher iodine value (IV) than barrows and HELF fed pigs, respectively. Improved efficiency has come at the cost of certain quality attributes, such as marbling and color. LEHF diet impacted all pigs in the same manner, resulting in poorer adipose tissue quality and lower IV.

▼ H παρούσα διατριβή προσφέρει, για πρώτη φορά, μια ολοκληρωμένη ανάλυση της επίδοσης των τραπεζών σε επίπεδο υποκαταστημάτων (branch level). Αξιολογήθηκε η επίδοση ενός ομοιογενούς δικτύου υποκαταστημάτων μεγάλης Ελληνικής Τράπεζας για την περίοδο Ιανουάριος 2006 - Ιούνιος 2009, στη βάση δύο λειτουργικών κριτηρίων, λαμβάνοντας υπόψη και την επίδραση της πρόσφατης κρίσης: στην αξία που παράγουν τα υποκαταστήματα για το μέτοχο της τράπεζας (shareholder value), όπως αυτή μετράται με το Υπολειμματικό Εισόδημα (residual income -RI), και στο βαθμό αποτελεσματικότητας κέρδους και παραγωγής (profit and production efficiency). Αναφορικά με τη διαχείριση της αξίας, βρέθηκε ότι οι λειτουργικοί παράγοντες αξίας (operational value drivers) που σχετίζονται με τη διαφοροποίηση του εισοδήματος, τη διαχείριση του ελεγχόμενου κόστους, την ικανότητα διαχείρισης του πιστωτικού κινδύνου, το spread των δανείων, και την ικανότητα του υποκαταστήματος να δημιουργεί έσοδα από καταθέσεις χαμηλού κόστους, συνδέονται στατιστικά σημαντικά με το RI. Η κρίση επηρεάζει στατιστικά σημαντικά μόνο τη διαχείριση του πιστωτικού κινδύνου, καταστρέφοντας περαιτέρω αξία για το μέτοχο και υποδεικνύοντας χαμηλότερη ικανότητα διαχείρισης του πιστωτικού κινδύνου. Επιπρόσθετα, αυτό το εμπειρικό εύρημα αποκαλύπτει και την αδυναμία του τρέχοντος λογιστικού πλαισίου σύμφωνα με το ΔΛΠ 39, να αναγνωρίζει και να καταγράφει νωρίτερα (την περίοδο της πιστωτικής ανάπτυξης) ζημιές απομείωσης της αξίας των δανείων. Όσον αφορά στη μέτρηση της αποτελεσματικότητας, βρέθηκε ότι η κρίση μειώνει στατιστικά σημαντικά μόνο τη μέση αποτελεσματικότητα κέρδους του δικτύου, απόρροια της χορήγησης κακών δανείων την περίοδο της πιστωτικής επέκτασης.
This thesis offers, for the first time, a comprehensive analysis of the performance of banks at the branch level. We evaluated the performance of a homogenous retail branch network of a large private Greek bank for the period January 2006-June 2009, based on two operational criteria, taking into account the impact of the recent crisis: the shareholder value that branches generate as measured by the Residual Income (RI) and the profit and production efficiency in branch operations. Regarding the value management, we found that diversified income, cost management, credit risk capabilities, income on core deposits and loan spread are all statistically significant associated with the RI. In addition, the value driver of credit risk capabilities is incrementally negatively associated with residual income at the branch level during the recent crisis, indicating lower ability to manage credit risk. Moreover, this finding reveals the inability of the current accounting framework under IAS 39 to recognize and record earlier (in the expansion period) impaired loans. Regarding the efficiency measurement, we found that during the crisis only the average profit-oriented efficiency of the branch network reduced significantly. ▼ Mit der kontrastmittelunterstützten dynamischen Magnetresonanztomographie kann die regionale Lungenperfusion mit T1-gewichteten Pulssequenzen nicht-invasiv bestimmt werden. Aus der ersten Passage eines Kontrastmittelbolus durch das Lungenparenchym lässt sich auf Basis der Indikator-Verdünnungs-Theorie der regionale pulmonale Blutfluss rPBF, das regionale pulmonale Blutvolumen rPBV und die regionale mittlere Transitzeit rMTT berechnen. Im Rahmen dieser Arbeit wurde die Tikhonov-Regularisierungsmethode mit einer modifizierten Variante des L-Kurven-Kriteriums MLCC und dem Residual-Funktions-Modell RFM zur bildpunktweisen Quantifizierung der Lungenperfusion verwendet. Beide Methoden wurden mit der Standardmethode der abgeschnittenen Singulärwertzerlegung tSVD anhand von Simulationen, und Probanden- und Patientendatensätze verglichen. Die tSVD liefert die präzisesten Ergebnisse für rPBF, rMTT und rPBV, z.B. war die Standardabweichung der rPBF bei typischen Lungenparametern
(rPBF=90 300ml/min·100ml , SNR=20, rMTT=3 s) um 37% bzw. 48% kleiner als bei MLCC und RFM. Da bei der tSVD im Gegensatz zur Tikhonovregularisierung keine Adaption an das
SNR erfolgt, sind die Lösungskurven oft über- oder unterregularisiert. Zudem weichen sie stärker von der wahren Kurve ab, die quadratische Differenz zwischen vorgegebener und berechneter Kurve ist bei obigen Standardparametern um bis zu 42% größer. Die MLCC Methode war in den Simulationen bei einem SNR < 30 bezüglich der ermittelten rPBF Werte pr¨aziser als RFM. Mit allen betrachteten Methoden konnte eine deutliche Abgrenzung von gesunden und pathologischen
Lungenregionen auf den berechneten Paramaterkarten festgestellt werden. Insbesondere bei den Patientendatens¨atzen lieferte die Tikhonovregularisierung die detailreichsten Karten. Im Gegensatz zu MLCC gab es bei RFM keine einzelnen fehlerhafte Voxel mit sehr hohen rPBF
Werten von über 300 ml/min·100ml in Regionen mit ansonsten niedrigen rPBF Werten kleiner als 20 ml/min·100ml . Der Gültigkeitsbereich des linearen Zusammenhanges zwischen MR-Signal und KMKonzentration (z. B. Magnevist) wurde untersucht und war bei einer in der klinischen Routine
verwendeten TWIST-Pulssequenz bis zu einer KM-Konzentration von 1 mmol/l gültig. In Simulationen führte eine Unterschätzung der KM-Konzentration in der Pulmonalarterie bei 2 mmol/l zu
einer Überschätzung von rPBF um 20%, rPBV um 30% und rMTT um 10% des vorgegebenen Wertes.

▼ A general global approximation scheme is developed and its generality is demonstrated by the derivation of classical Lagrange and Hermite interpolation and finite difference and finite element approximations as its special cases. It is also shown that previously reported general approximation techniques which use the idea of moving least square are also special cases of the present method. The combination of the developed general global approximation technique with the weighted residual methods provides a very powerful scheme for the solution of the boundary value problems formulated in terms of differential equations. Although this application is the main purpose of the this project, nevertheless, the power and flexibility of the developed approximation allows it to be used in many other areas. In this study the following applications of the described approximation are developed: 1- data fitting (including curve and surface fitting) 2- plane mapping (both in cases where a conformal mapping exists and for non-conformal mapping) 3- solution of eigenvalue problems with particular application to spectral expansions used in the modal representation of shallow water equations 4- solution of ordinary differential equations (including Sturm-Liouville equations, non-homogeneous equations with non-smooth right hand sides and 4th order equations) 5- elliptic partial differential equations (including Poisson equations with non-smooth right hand sides) A computer program which can handle the above applications is developed. This program utilises symbolic, numerical and graphical and the programming language provided by the Mathematica package.

network. The effectiveness of chlorine residuals on pathogen
removal can be determined using system vulnerability assessment.
The effectiveness of chlorination was determined separately and it
was determined as higher than that of the distribution and dilution

assess the inactivation of pathogens, is complicated to be
determined for distribution networks due to varying residence times
and chlorine concentrations. The relation of CT
value with the
removal ratio of pathogens was used to estimate CT

distribution networks. The results of case studies indicate that CT
value determined for a distribution network does not only depend on
concentration and contact time of chlorine residuals but also
temperature, pH and intrusion location and duration.

▼ I marknadsrapporter går att läsa att samhällsfastigheter är en lågriskplacering där investerare söker säker hamn när det börjar blåsa. I Catella Property Forecast (2019) bedöms samhällsfastigheter som låg risk med medel-till-hög avkastning. Den underliggande efterfrågan på samhällsfastigheter i Sverige drivs av den demografiska utvecklingen och framgent behövs stora investeringar för att möta behovet bland landets kommuner och landsting. Hos investerarkollegiet har samhällsfastigheter seglat upp som ett alltmer populärt segment och i en marknadsrapport från Pangea Property Partners kommuniceras att samhällsfastigheter är den mest eftertraktade produkten bland institutionella investerare på fastighetsmarknaden i Sverige (Pangea Institutional Outlook, 2019). På grund av dess beskaffenhet bedöms risk och osäkerhet för investeringar i samhällsfastigheter som relativt låg under kontraktsperioden där ekonomiskt stabila hyresgäster säkerställer ett kassaflöde under långa hyresförhållanden. Hyresgästrisken och vakansrisken är i princip obefintlig under de långa hyreskontraktens löptid. Dock behäftas fastigheterna alltid, likt alla fastigheter, med en viss risk som kan härledas till exempelvis teknisk risk och miljörisk. Utöver dessa tillkommer även politisk risk samt juridiska risker. Specifikt för samhällsfastigheter är att de, per definition, är specialanpassade för verksamheten vilket kraftigt begränsar dess alternativa användning. Alla ovan nämnda parametrar ska speglas i en marknadsvärdesbedömning utförd av en registrerad värderare. Marknadsvärdesbedömningar är centrala i beslutsfattandet vilket föranleder att det är av största vikt att de är rättvisande. Då investerare känner komfort för de förhållanden som råder under löptiden för de långa avtalen är det intressant att granska synen på dessa fastigheter då kontrakten har löpt ut. Syftet med denna fallstudie är att genomlysa hur restvärdet för samhällsfastigheter bedöms av värderare med hänsyn till osäkerhet och risk. Värdering av fastigheter sker vanligen med kassaflödesmetoden som bygger på att framtida driftnetton under en given kalkylperiod diskonteras. Till detta värde adderas ett diskonterat restvärde som ska motsvara fastighetens värde vid slutet av kalkylperioden vilket ofta sammanfaller med att hyreskontraktet löper ut. Metoden bygger till stor del på prognostisering av framtiden. Följaktligen är värderingar behäftade med osäkerhet. Hur riskerna och osäkerheterna behandlas i värderingen kommer att framgå av resultatet. Studien visar att värderanas syn på restvärdesrisken för samhällsfastigheter är nästintill enhetlig och bygger ur teoretisk synvinkel på en objektiv bedömning av värderingsobjektets egenskaper och förutsättningar vid kalkylperiodens slut. Här bedöms ingående parametrar så som geografiskt läge, fastighetens kvalitet och standard men även politisk risk och vad byggnaden är anpassad till i dagsläget. ▼ The aim of this masters thesis, based on discourse analysis and organization theory, is to study how individuals in different Swedish cultural organizations- and agencys are working with disaster preparedness. The purpose of this is to examine whether organizational structures affect different persons work, cooperation and practical application concerning disaster preparedness in collaboration with both external and internal organizations. The research shows that disaster preparedness are affected by priority issues as well as financial resources causing consequences for future work concerning this kind of issues. Another problem which is also examined and discussed in this thesis are the problematic approach to personal initiative which today is the leading operation for the organizations to deal with disaster preparedness instead of creating professional titles for the persons handles these complex issues.
