In the South African context leading multinational companies within mining, automotive, financial and other sectors are faced with the complexity of: uncertain political policies, fluid market dynamics, and market follower status in global relations. In addition, emerging markets are directly affected by capital and structural adjustments in first world economies, as currency flows direct to safe-haven markets under uncertainty. Thus, additional complexities of: currency fluctuations, energy cost increases, implied inflationary spikes, and pending recession become a reality, and have an enormous impact on how organisations manage within the unforeseen complexity that this brings to the local economy. As complex environmental factors beyond organisational boundaries and management’s ability to predict and control, start impacting on an organisation’s material capital flows, this uncertainty will drive leadership to review their current worldview. This researcher argues that this new worldview must be a shift away from a Newtonian-Cartesian paradigm, that through its cause-and-effect scientific base has modelled the world and its structures around a rigid linear approach, that cannot cope within the complexities exerted on the system. It is suggested therefore, by the researcher that the shift in leadership thinking should be towards a different paradigm, built on complexity based models using quantum Einsteinian-Quantum physics as a metaphor. The impact of this shift in paradigm, towards an Einsteinian-Quantum worldview, has an has an implicative effect for organisations in terms of; mental models, subsequent organisational design, the values that support this, the leadership behaviours that are a response to these value sets and the resultant directional quantum leap outcome within a multi-dimensional range of examples including; material (financial), social and spiritual capital aspects of the organisation. This research set out to review the paradigm shift between the Newtonian-Cartesian and Einsteinian-Quantum worldviews with respect to leadership within a South African context.

▼ The purpose of this study was to evaluate, describe, and measure the effect of prenatal education among a group of low-income families. One group received preparation for childbirth and parenting (PCP) class and one did not. The classes were offered at a community center with a specifically designed program for high-risk clients. The sample consisted of 58 expectant women, who were at or below the established poverty level for the State of Utah for the year 1978 and $4,500 for a family of four. Data collection continued from May 1, 1978 to January 5, 1979. The Utah Test Appraising Health-IV (UTAH-IV) questionnaire was utilized for the predelivery testing. The 230 questions are arranged in three sets: (1) census data, (2) a set of physical symptoms, (3) common problems confronting normal persons. A consent from was obtained from the participant. During the postpartum period the Utah Tests Appraising Mothers at Home (UTAH-H) was used to score the mother on aspects of mothering and adjustment to becoming a mother. This was done in the mother’s home about two weeks after delivery. The scores for the UTAH-IV questionnaire were separated into those related to body systems, to each trimester. In addition, there were two separate sets of questions dealing with the General Adaptation distress and the Cornell Psychiatric Items. These were separated according to the three trimesters of pregnancy and received a numerical score. Also scored were responses to common problems that might have occurred in the previous six to 12 months, and those that had occurred in the previous six months. The scores were also examined according to stress area and each received two scores, for the two different time periods. Illness-proness was assessed by having the women circle symptoms that personally had experienced in the previous 10 years, for a list of 34 possible problems. These answers were given a numerical score. The scores for the various body symptoms and stress areas were compared, untreated to treated, to determine whether a difference was present by means of a T-test and Pearson correlation coefficient tests. Illness-proness was also correlated with the Pearson r test. Income level was submitted to the T-test to determine homogeneity. Outcome variables of delivery not affected by the researcher’s possible bias were Apgar, one and five minute scores, weight at birth, gestational age, anesthesia utilized, and type of delivery. Significance at the .05 level was seen with Apgar scores, gestational age, anesthesia, and type of delivery. No significant differences existed for income level, and the mean frequency of education, occupation, parity, and age were very close in numerical values. No significance existed in birth weight between the two groups, however that could have been coding difficulty. ▼ The purpose of the investigation was to obtain descriptive data regarding the informational interests of postpartal adolescent women and sexual partners. The research questions posed were: (1) what information does a postpartal adolescent and her partner possess concerning breast changes, vaginal bleeding, and sexual activities as they occur following childbirth? (2) what additional information does an adolescent and her partner perceive they need regarding breast changes, vaginal bleeding, and sexual activity following childbirth? Several OB-GYN hospital clinics in Denver, Colorado were utilized for data gathering. Data collection was accomplished through interviews and self-administered questionnaires completed by women during postpartum clinic visits four to twelve weeks following the woman's discharge from the hospital. Questionnaires were delivered to males by female partners. The sample consisted of 30 women between 15 and 19 years of age, and 10 male partners. Half of the women were married and half were single. All except three adolescent women had either resumed coitus following childbirth or were anticipating resumption of intercourse in the near future. Questionnaire results demonstrated that both male and female subjects perceived themselves as lacking information regarding postpartal breast changes, vaginal bleeding, and resumption of sexual activity. Requests for additional information were categorized and listed. Female respondents sought needed advice from written sources, physicians, nurses and mothers. Although male subjects also utilized written materials, they rarely consulted additional sources other than sexual partners. Contrary to expectation, males were not less likely than females to experience apprehension with resumption of postpartal sexual behavior. A large portion of male and female teenage childbearers evidenced premature termination of high school educations. Implications for clinical practice, and recommendation for future research were presented.

The present study was conducted in order to construct a personality inventory that is cross-culturally valid for the South African population with at least a Grade 12 level of education. The Basic Traits Inventory was developed on the basis of the five-factor model of personality, which measures personality in terms of five broad domains, most commonly known as: Neuroticism, Extraversion, Openness to Experience, Agreeableness, and Conscientiousness (McCrae & John, 1992). The five factors of Basic Traits Inventory bear the same name as those in the five-factor model, and are each divided into five facets, except Neuroticism, which has four facets. The factors and their facets were defined after a study of the literature, and the items of the inventory were generated in order to represent these definitions. After performing an item-sorting procedure, some items were revised or removed. The final format of the Basic Traits Inventory consisted of a single list of 173 items, which were all grouped according to their respective facets, and presented together for each factor. Three comparison groups were formed in order to evaluate the psychometric properties of the Basic Traits Inventory, namely: Race (Black and White), gender, and language (English, Afrikaans, and Indigenous African). The sample consisted of 1510 participants, made up mostly of second year psychology students and their parents, with a mean age of 37.52 (range = 17 to 75). There were 566 men and 914 women (30 unspecified) in the sample. The language groups were designated as follows: Afrikaans (n = 558); Indigenous African (n = 73); and English (n = 822). The race groups compared in the present study consisted of 1121 White participants and 114 Black participants. The internal consistency reliability coefficients were calculated for the factors and facets of the Basic Traits Inventory. The reliability coefficients of each of the five factors in the total group were all satisfactory: Extraversion (á = 0.89); Neuroticism (á = 0.94); Openness to Experience (á = 0.90); Agreeableness (á = 0.88); and Conscientiousness (á = 0.94). The five factors also demonstrated satisfactory reliability in each of the comparison groups. The facets Liveliness, Straightforwardness, and Modesty each had low reliability coefficients across all comparison groups. Openness to Values demonstrated low reliability in all groups except for the Black group and Indigenous African language group. Excitementseeking and Prosocial tendencies had low reliability coefficients in the Black group and Indigenous African language group. These facets will have to undergo revision in future versions of the Basic Traits Inventory. In a factor analysis, five factors were extracted using a maximum-likelihood factor analysis with Promax rotation (k = 4) for each of the comparison groups. ▼ Globally, the insurance industry has enjoyed strong business conditions over the last few years but worsening economic outlook will likely pose considerable challenges in the years ahead. These challenges will be especially pronounced in the property and casualty segment, where growing pricing pressure as the market softens will drive a need for cost-cutting and greater efficiency (Deloitte, 2008). Due to the afore-mentioned, although insurance is a mature industry, driving profitable top-line growth will be difficult owing to increased competition from global players and companies from other industries that produce either same or substitute products and services. While profitable growth is the key to success in a mature industry like insurance, it can be prohibitively difficult to achieve through conventional strategies simply because the industry is mature (Deloitte, 2008). It is vital that insurance executives take a fresh look at the industry and seek fundamental change at all levels of the organization, from its people strategy to its client and product strategy to its processes and infrastructure achieving these will be difficult is appropriate innovation strategy is not put in place (Carrie, 2008). The study sought to establish the innovation strategies adopted by insurance companies in Kenya.The research design employed in this study was a survey method the entire population was undertaken covering 43 insurance companies. The study relied heavily on primary data obtained through the use of semi-structure questionnaires and the analysis was done in terms of descriptive statistics.From the findings the study concluded that companies with strong technology-enabled innovation strategies are more likely to secure competitive advantage and create superior shareholder value. The study also concludes that a good technology-enabled innovation strategy should clearly deconstruct the reasons why a company is (or will be) successful. The study recommends that insurance companies need to develop robust technology-enabled innovation strategies that define how a company source’s and develops technology to help deliver compelling new products, services, customer experiences and business models while simultaneously creating barriers to entry

▼ BACKGROUND: Breast cancer patients who engage in physical activity are shown to have a reduction in difficulties during daily living as a result of treatment side effects; however, it is unknown if participation in physical activity will reduce the limitations experienced by these individuals while participating in community activities. SUBJECTS: Female breast cancer patients, with a mean age of 51.81(SD = 7.88, range 30-64), diagnosed with stage 1 (n = 16, 21.3%), stage II (n = 37, 49.3%), stage III (n = 15, 20.0%) cancer who have completed chemotherapy (n = 63, 84.0%), are undergoing chemotherapy (n = 9, 12.0%), or have not yet started chemotherapy (n = 1, 1.3%). The majority of the participants were individuals were employed full time (n = 39, 52.0%), employed part time (n = 13, 17.3%). The majority of these women were married (n = 49) or divorced (n = 11). These women were college graduates (n = 30) or finished some graduate school (n = 20). These participants were European American (n = 34, 45.3%) and African American (n = 13, 17.3%). The BMI of these participants had a mean of 27.28 with a range from 16.30 to 44.81(SD = 5.35). Some of these individuals (n = 53) reported co-occuring medical conditions such as high cholesterol, high blood pressure, diabetes, and being overweight. METHOD: We recruited female breast cancer patients between the age of 18-66, with stage I, II, or III cancer, who are starting, in the process of, or have completed chemotherapy. Participants who met the inclusion criteria were selected to participate. Research assistants invited these patients to volunteer the survey study. For the current study purpose, we analyzed the association between the International Physical Activity Questionnaire (IPAQ) and the World Health Organization Disability Assessment Scale version 2.0 (WHODAS 2.0), using the Pearson product-moment correlation at the level of statistical significance at .05. The survey packages were sent to the participants through the United States Postal Service. Once the surveys were returned by mail the participants received a $10 gift card for compensation. RESULTS: A significant negative association was observed between limitations in participation in society (r = -.31, p =.004, medium effect size) and walking. Significant negative associations were also discovered between the limitations in life activities and vigorous activity (r = -.24, p = .023, small to medium effect size), along with walking (r = -.23, p = 0.25, small to medium effect size). Lastly, a significant negative association was seen between the limitations in communication and understanding and walking (r = -.20, p = .046, small to medium effect size). DISCUSSION: Engaging in physical activity decreases the limitations in understanding and communication, life activities, and participation in society an individual encounters. Vigorous activity is not required to experience reductions in community limitations. Simply engaging in light physical activity, like walking, produces results. Les déficits cognitifs sont présents chez les patients atteints de cancer. Les tests cognitifs tels que le Montreal Cognitive Assessment se sont révélés peu spécifiques, incapables de détecter des déficits légers et ne sont pas linéaires. Pour suppléer à ces limitations nous avons développé un questionnaire cognitif simple, bref et adapté aux dimensions cognitives atteintes chez les patients avec un cancer, le FaCE « The Fast Cognitif Evaluation », en utilisant la modélisation Rasch (MR). La MR est une méthode mathématique probabiliste qui détermine les conditions pour qu’un outil soit considéré une échelle de mesure et elle est indépendante de l’échantillon. Si les résultats s’ajustent au modèle, l’échelle de mesure est linéaire avec des intervalles égaux. Les réponses sont basées sur la capacité des sujets et la difficulté des items. La carte des items permet de sélectionner les items les plus adaptés pour l’évaluation de chaque aspect cognitif et d’en réduire le nombre au minimum. L’analyse de l’unidimensionnalité évalue si l’outil mesure une autre dimension que celle attendue. Les résultats d’analyses, conduites sur 165 patients, montrent que le FaCE distingue avec une excellente fiabilité et des niveaux suffisamment différents les compétences des patients (person-reliability-index=0.86; person-separation-index=2.51). La taille de la population et le nombre d’items sont suffisants pour que les items aient une hiérarchisation fiable et précise (item-reliability=0.99; item-séparation-index=8.75). La carte des items montre une bonne dispersion de ceux-ci et une linéarité du score sans effet plafond. Enfin, l’unidimensionnalité est respectée et le temps d’accomplissement moyen est d’environ 6 minutes. Par définition la MR permet d’assurer la linéarité et la continuité de l’échelle de mesure. Nous avons réussi à développer un questionnaire bref, simple, rapide et adapté aux déficits cognitifs des patients avec un cancer. Le FaCE pourrait, aussi, servir de mesure de référence pour les futures recherches dans le domaine.

Cognitive deficits are prevalent in patient with cancer all along their trajectory. Specifics cognitive functions are affected in this population. Several questionnaires are used to assess the cognitive impairment but they are not adapted for this population. In order to provide a reliable tool, we developed an adapted, simple and fast questionnaire, the Fast Cognitive Evaluation (FaCE) by exploring its psychometric properties using the Rasch analysis. The Rasch model (RM) is a psychometric mathematical method that establishes the conditions that a measurement tool has to satisfy to be considered a rating scale. Unlike traditional psychometric analysis, RM has the advantage of being sample independent. If the results fit the RM the numerical scale is linear with equal interval. ▼ Nous observons depuis plusieurs décennies, un désintérêt généralisé pour la politique, qui est particulièrement marqué chez les jeunes (Bakker & de Vreese, 2011; Pasek, Kenski, Romer & Jamieson, 2006; Putnam, 2000; Yang, 2009) et qui se traduit, dans le contexte canadien, notamment par la diminution du taux de participation aux élections canadiennes (Hudon, Poirier & Yates, 2008; Statistique Canada, 2011). Notre recherche s’inscrit dans un cadre théorique soutenant que les industries culturelles tendent à détourner les citoyens des enjeux civiques et politiques qu’exige toute vie en société. En effet, il est permis de penser que les émissions de téléréalité, comme formes relativement nouvelles d’industries culturelles, du moins dans leur composante interactive (Dupont, 2007a; Ruel, 2008), sont au cœur de la problématique du désintérêt marqué des jeunes pour la vie politique, désintérêt qui se traduit par un désengagement. La réflexion est d’autant plus pertinente que certaines émissions de téléréalité sous-tendent justement des modèles de participation (par vote), et ce sont précisément ces dernières qui seront ciblées dans le cadre de cette recherche. Ce faisant, le but de la présente recherche est de déterminer s’il existe un lien de concomitance entre la fréquence de consommation des émissions de téléréalité (exigeant un mode de participation) et le désengagement politique des jeunes universitaires, âgés de 18 à 29 ans. Pour ce faire, nous avons procédé par voie de questionnaires auto-administrés à des étudiants universitaires, sélectionnés de manière aléatoire (par grappes). Un total de 138 participants ont complété le questionnaire et les résultats d’analyses statistiques révèlent que le désengagement politique chez les universitaires n’est pas significativement lié à leur consommation d’émissions de téléréalité, mais, par exemple, que le champ d’étude est lié à l’aspect des conversations politiques. Ces résultats sont discutés dans leur implication pratique comme théorique.

▼ Buildings are ultimately built for people to use, so it is important that they are designed to suit the occupants’ needs. The indoor environment can affect the comfort, health, and productivity of occupants. Yet very little is known about how the building users perceive these matters and there is very little information on what would constitute norms or benchmarks for their perceptions. If we wish to improve users’ perceptions then it is essential to have a reliable standardised set of benchmarks. However, at present there is no statistically unbiased, country-based benchmark for the perceptions of the occupants of the building environments that is representative of the existing building stock. Predominantly, current building performance indicators have the main focus on technical aspects of the building such as energy consumption and materials recycling; very little attention is paid to how the occupants themselves rate the building. User perception benchmarks will allow building owners/users to see how New Zealand buildings are rated by the occupants themselves. Although subjective, it will allow the space to be rated by those who it is designed for, the occupants. This in turn will allow for possible improvements in the construction of comfortable, healthy, and productive work environments. The overall aim of this study is to contribute to the improvement of the performance of commercial and institutional buildings for their occupants through the exploration of user performance benchmarks. The objectives are to provide a general overview of existing studies which have investigated user perceptions, to explore the nature and characteristics of benchmarks, to create a pilot database of results for user surveys of NZ buildings, and finally to use the data collected to explore methods for determining benchmarks for NZ buildings in terms of user perception. Using questionnaires as a tool for assessing the performance of a building is an effective way of determining how the building is affecting the occupants, and is cheaper and less time consuming than the technical measures that would be needed to reach the same level of detail. The pilot database allowed flexibility in the statistical analysis and exploration of how possible benchmarks could be constructed. Patterns and influencing factors were investigated in these results. The results from the occupant questionnaire data from this database followed consistent patterns to those of other established methods, with the Storage, Health and Air variables consistently scoring low. The highest scoring variables are for Furniture, Image, and Lighting Overall. Image is the variable with the largest variability, reflecting its subjective nature. Correlations were carried out on the summary variables, with particular focus on Health, Overall Comfort, and Perceived Productivity. These were highly correlated with each other and many of the other variables. ▼ Baseline descriptive data were obtained on 35 women who were subjected to infant separation for a period not less than 6 days and not more than 15 days following delivery. The design of the study was to obtain descriptive and demographic data, document recent life changes as reported by the subject before, during, and after her pregnancy, and to procure a general personality measurement of self-actualization. These data were obtained to provide another dimension to the understanding of factors which might influence the maternal-infant relationship. Information for the study was obtained by interviewing each subject. Three questionnaires were administered to the subjects. One was a measure of self-actualization, the Personal Orientation Inventory (POI) by Shostrom (1963); the second measure of recent life changes experienced by the subject, the Schedule of Recent Experience (SRE) by Holmes and Rahe (1967); and the third personal data sheet. Total time for each interview was approximately 90 minutes. Correlation analysis of the data collected identified factors which correlated significantly with the SRE and POI. Pearson correlation coefficient indicated that scales of the POI correlated highly with each other as was expected. The only other variable having numerous correlations with the POI was the mother’s continued intention to breast feed. Scakes from the POI correlating with breast feeding were; Inner directed Self-Acceptance, Existentiality, and Capacity for Intimate Contact. The SRE correlated with eight variables which included: mother’s age and education, duration of physical problem in pregnancy, full-term births, intention to breast feed, and three scales from the POI (Feeling Reactivity, Acceptance of Aggression, and Capacity for Intimate Contact). Due to its descriptive nature no conclusions could be made from the information gathered. Several conditions arose, however, which could influence or reflect the maternal-infant relationship. These include: whether or not the pregnancy was planned; the number and extent of physical ailments experienced by the mother during the pregnancy; whether the mother is breast or bottle feeding her infant; the number of times she visited her infant; and the number of telephone calls she made to the nursery to ordain information regarding her infant’s condition. Understanding the implications these factors have on the maternal-infant relationship should provide a fruitful area for investigation in the future.

▼ BACKGROUND: Chronic pain is one of the most expensive and prevalent healthcare problems in the United States. It affects not only the individual but also society as a whole. The Biopsychosocial Model of chronic pain is the standard model for understanding and treating the pain experience. As such, it is important to have accurate ways of predicting healthcare outcomes for the chronic pain population. Prior research has evaluated the predictive abilities of health outcome measures and healthcare utilization. However, only one study to our knowledge has evaluated the Pain Disability Questionnaire’s (PDQ) ability to predict healthcare utilization. SUBJECTS: The current study consisted of 50 [Mage = 54.76 (12.41) years] adult patients diagnosed with chronic pain who completed an interdisciplinary treatment program at the Eugene McDermott Center for Pain Management. METHOD: The PDQ was administered at baseline and total health care cost was obtained at three-month follow-up. Participants were placed in either the high or low health care cost group depending on how they compared to a national average estimate for chronic pain patients. Logistic and linear regression modeling, as well as receiver operator characteristic analyses were used to evaluate the predictive ability of the PDQ in determining healthcare utilization cost at a three-month follow-up time point. RESULTS: The logistic regression analysis indicated the PDQ accurately placed participants in the respective high or low healthcare cost group [X2 (1) = 10.67, p < .001]. Receiver operator characteristic analysis yielded an area under the curve of .76. A PDQ cutoff score of 96 produced the optimal sensitivity (.70) and specificity (.67) for determining whether patients fall in the high or low healthcare cost group. The linear regression established that PDQ scores at baseline statistically significantly predicted total healthcare utilization at three months following the end of their treatment program, where higher PDQ scores were related to higher healthcare cost [F (1, 48) = 11.41, p = .001]. DISCUSSION: These findings offer support for the use of the PDQ in predicting healthcare cost. Use of the PDQ in this context may help clinicians, caregivers, and patients in planning the cost of the chronic pain sufferers’ treatment. Problems with memory functioning in children can result in impaired learning across a broad range of areas as the ability to store and retrieve information is important for skill acquisition. For children, an interruption in the natural flow of brain development, resulting in difficulties with memory and learning, has pervasive implications across all areas of social, emotional, academic, and behavioural development. Further, as skill development continues over a life span, deficits in memory can have a cumulative effect. A young childhood brain is susceptible to a range of influences which can cause deviations in its otherwise normal development. As childhood spans a number of important developmental phases and since memory plays a significant role in early development, it is essential that deficits are accurately identified so that early interventions can be developed. Observer rating scales appear to be a timely and cost effective way to screen for memory deficits with the aim of identifying children that may benefit from more formal assessments. There are a number of observer rating scales that have been explored in the available literature however so far, few have proven to be suitable for use as a screening tool or for clinical diagnostic application. The Children’s Memory Questionnaire - Revised (CMQ-R) is a parent report scale aimed at assessing the memory skills of children. It was the aim of the present study to evaluate the CMQ-R as a reliable and effective measurement of memory functioning in children. In addition, a factor analysis was conducted to assess the CMQ-R’s ability to reflect the multidimensional nature of memory. Three hundred and seventy one children between the ages 5-12 participated in the study and parents of all 371 children completed the CMQ-R. Children in the school group at the ages 6, 8, 10 and 12 years also completed a formal assessment of memory which utilised selected subtests from the first and second editions of the Wide Range Assessment of Memory and Learning, in addition to selected subtests from the Wechsler Intelligence Scale for Children Fourth Edition. CMQ-R scores were compared to formal memory test scores and the conclusions drawn were that the two assessments of memory were weakly correlated across a range of subscales and age groups. Validation studies often compare observer memory scales to more formal measures of memory assessment and these associations have historically been weak. These conclusions directed discussions to focus on whether or not the CMQ-R is more accurately defining every day memory, and whether or not every day memory is indeed being neglected when assessing memory in more formal testing situations. Limitations to the research study included a clinical group with fewer than expected participation numbers and with less than intended participants who experienced a primary memory deficit. La surconsommation de sel est considérée comme un problème majeur de santé publique. Il est essentiel que l’infirmière s’y intéresse dans l’objectif de développer des interventions efficaces visant la promotion d’une saine consommation de sodium. Cependant, avant d’intervenir, il est d’abord nécessaire d’obtenir une compréhension approfondie de la consommation de sel chez la population ciblée, en commençant par la quantification et l’identification des principales sources alimentaires de ce nutriment. Cette étude avait deux objectifs : 1) développer deux questionnaires auto-rapportés chez la population adulte canadienne francophone, soit un questionnaire de sel discrétionnaire (QSD) et un questionnaire de fréquence alimentaire spécifique pour le sel (QFA-Na), et 2) démontrer leurs propriétés de mesure. La fidélité a été évaluée selon le critère de stabilité temporelle. La validité des questionnaires a été évaluée en comparant les données recueillies avec celles d’un sodium urinaire de 24 heures (24h-Na) ainsi que d’un journal alimentaire de 72 heures (J72h). Les ICC pour le QSD, le QFA-Na et les deux questionnaires combinés étaient respectivement de 0,73 (0,56-0,85), 0,97 (0,94-0,98) et 0,98 (0,95-0,99). Les corrélations entre le QFA-Na et le 24h-Na et entre le QFA-Na et le J72h étaient de 0,30 (p<0,001) et de 0,35 (p<0,001). Le QSD n’a pas démontré de corrélation significative avec les mesures de référence. Les corrélations entre les deux questionnaires combinés (QSD et QFA-Na) étaient de 0,29 (p<0,001) avec le 24h-Na et de 0,31 (p<0,001) avec le J72h. Les résultats de Bland- Altman indiquaient que pour les questionnaires combinés, il y avait un biais de mesure (sousestimation de l'apport en sel), mais qui demeurait constant indépendamment du niveau d’apport. Finalement, la classification croisée a indiqué une proportion acceptable d'accord, mais 20 à 30% de classification dans le quartile opposé. En conclusion, les outils développés sont fiables et ont démontré quelques propriétés de validité.

Salt over intake has been considered a major public health problem. Nurses are in the front wave of the health care system, thus the development of effective nursing interventions aimed at promoting a healthier salt intake could contribute importantly to the population health. However, before intervening, it is essential to obtain a thorough and comprehensive understanding of the dietary patterns of salt intake in the target population, beginning with the quantification and the identification of the major sources of intake of the nutrient. ▼ Significant portions of cancer patients are attempting to manage the stressors of survivorship with undiagnosed depression. Untreated depression increases mortality rates, deteriorates patients' quality of life, and disrupts adherence to cancer treatment. Despite widespread recommendations, there remains a significant gap in identification of depression and engagement in depression treatment. To fill this gap, the University of Texas Southwestern Moncrief Cancer Institute implemented Mental Health Screening, Assessment, and Navigation (MH-SCAN) as standard of care. This study evaluated factors associated with screening positive for depression, as well as the impact of Mental Health Patient Navigation on depression treatment engagement and depression symptom reduction. Universal, tablet-based screening using the Patient Health Questionnaire (PHQ-2, PHQ-9) was implemented to screen for depressive symptoms. After screening positive, a patient navigator contacted the patient to engage them in navigation services. For the current study, patients (N=500) diagnosed with cancer two years prior to PHQ-2 screening were selected for inclusion. Clinical and demographic data were collected via electronic health record review to compare patients based on positive (n=173) and negative (n=327) depression screening result. Patients who were (n=106) and were not (n=67) navigated were then compared on their engagement in depression treatment and symptom reduction. Approximately one-third of all patients screened positive for depression. Individuals, who had a pre-existing mental illness, are unmarried, have less education, are on disability, and earn USD30,000-USD40,000 per year (i.e., the "working poor") were significantly more likely to screen positive for depression. Significantly more (χ2= 62.224, p < .001) patients initiated referred depression treatment who were navigated (67%) compared to patients unable to be navigated (6%). Furthermore, patients who were navigated had significantly greater reductions in depressive symptoms (M = -6.43, SD=6.63) compared to patients unable to be navigated (M = -1.46, SD=3.87), F = 30.91, p <.001. We conclude that Mental Health Patient Navigation successfully bridges the depression screening and treatment gap, fulfilling recent recommendations put forth by numerous psychoncology groups. Our MH-SCAN program can serve as the model for future iterations of screening and treatment programs, providing crucial psychosocial care to at-risk oncology populations whose mental health has often gone underserved. ▼ RESUMO: Introdução: A asma brônquica é uma entidade frequente em idade pediátrica, apresentando uma grande heterogeneidade clínica e significativa morbilidade quando não controlada. A identificação de crianças sintomáticas pode atrasar ou até mesmo diminuir a ocorrência de algumas alterações estruturais. Reconhece-se a necessidade de questionários sobre sintomas respiratórios em língua portuguesa, devidamente validados, que tenham como população-alvo os grupos etários inferiores a 3 anos. Deste modo, será possível não só um conhecimento mais rigoroso da asma e da sibilância infantil mas também a uniformização de metodologias para o desenvolvimento de estratégias a nível nacional. Objetivos: Tradução com adaptação cultural para português e determinação da reprodutibilidade do Questionnaire on respiratory symptoms in preschool children de Strippoli e colaboradores. Material e métodos: A escolha do questionário obedeceu a vários critérios, entre os quais o grupo etário, o tipo e número de perguntas. O Questionnaire on respiratory symptoms in preschool children de Strippoli e colaboradores é um questionário de autopreenchimento, dirigido a crianças entre os 12 e os 24 meses de idade e destinado a estudos epidemiológicos ao nível da comunidade. Aborda aspetos referentes a sintomas respiratórios (sibilância, tosse crónica, sintomas das vias aéreas superiores), cuidados médicos, terapêutica, características ambientais, história familiar e situação social. Procedemos à sua tradução, com especial atenção para a adaptação do ponto de vista cultural e linguístico, utilizando o método da tradução / retroversão, amplamente utilizado e descrito na literatura internacional. Seguidamente determinámos a reprodutibilidade da versão final em língua portuguesa – Questionário de sintomas respiratórios em idade pré-escolar – utilizando o teste-reteste. Para tal, incluíram-se crianças entre os 12 e os 36 meses de idade recrutadas num Centro de Saúde e em creches de Lisboa. A distribuição dos questionários decorreu em duas fases: na primeira fase foram entregues pessoalmente nos locais de recrutamento e na segunda fase foram enviados por correio para os domicílios das crianças, respeitando-se um intervalo mínimo de 2 semanas entre ambos. Resultados: Na primeira fase foram distribuídos 180 questionários, com uma taxa de reposta de 41% (n=74). Na segunda fase enviaram-se para os respetivos domicílios 70 questionários,obtendo-se uma taxa de resposta de 66% (n=46). Para a análise de reprodutibilidade foram incluídos apenas os questionários preenchidos em ambos os momentos pelo mesmo indivíduo (mãe, pai ou representante legal) (n=41). A idade média das crianças foi, na primeira fase, de 22,5 meses e, na segunda fase, de 23,7 meses, com um predomínio do sexo feminino (F:M =1:0,6). A mediana do tempo decorrido entre os dois momentos de preenchimento dos questionários foi de 26 dias.
