▼ Med den här uppsatsen så ville jag testa om, och i så fall hur, Aristoteles teorier om pathos, det retoriska bevismedlet att övertyga med känslor, fungerar i vår moderna tid. Hur kan texter som nedtecknades för mer än två millennier sedan fortfarande ligga till grund för den retorikutbildning som praktiseras i våra skolor än idag? Så till att börja med har jag utrett Aristoteles begrepp och gjort min egen tolkning av hans arbete. Jag har vägt det och diskuterat det emot vad andra moderna forskare har sagt om termen. När jag sedan hade det klart för mig var nästa steg att se hur jag kunde använda denna kunskap för att få svar på min ursprungliga frågeställning. För att ta reda på det så använde jag en kombination av närläsning och ett studium av den retoriska situationen och försökte med de resultaten förklara hur pathos rörde sig i tre olika tal. Tack vare sina retoriska kunskaper och sin berömmelse för kända yttringar så valde jag ut Winstons Churchills tre första tal som han höll i det brittiska parlamentet, House of Commons, under sin tid som premiärminister 1940-1945. Andra världskriget rasade för fullt i Europa och mellan varje tal så händer det nya saker som Churchill måste ta hänsyn till. Olika känsloaspekter som han måste föra publiken igenom för att komma till sitt mål. Jag upptäckte under uppsatsens gång att Churchill går igenom en slags ”känslotrappa”, där han först utgår ifrån att det är rädsla som från början legat till grund för sina åhörares känslor och sedan försöker han att i olika steg föra dem till den känsla som passar hans egna syften. Jag upptäckte hur metoden kan appliceras på olika situationer och förklara hur olika känslosvängningar uppstår och förändrar åhörarnas omdömen. Metoden har sina fördelar bland annat i att den kan ge intressanta tolkningar som man kanske annars hade missat. Den har sina nackdelar bland annat i att den kan ge lite olika svar beroende på vem som använder den och hur mycket bakgrundsfakta man har gagnat sig. Sammantaget kan sägas att jag anser att jag har fått svar på varför Aristoteles teorier används än idag. Orsakerna till känslorna må ha ändrats och utvecklats sedan dess men man märker att grunderna faktiskt håller fortfarande.

▼ O objetivo central desta investigação consiste em estudar de que forma se dá a construção do ethos e do pathos em videoclipes femininos. Em outras palavras, a minha principal finalidade é analisar as marcas linguisticamente inscritas no discurso videoclíptico feminino para a criação identitária de uma autoimagem das cantoras e para a encenação das suas emoções e sentimentos a partir dos vários modos semióticos orquestrados nesse gênero textual: imagem, música e palavra. De maneira mais específica, proponho-me aqui a: i) investigar o videoclipe como gênero textual, observando a sua formação histórica e sociorretórica, as suas configurações genéricas e também como dialoga intertextualmente com outros textos, discursos e gêneros; ii) examinar de que modo se dá a construção da identidade feminina no videoclipe a partir do debate entre feministas e pósfeministas em torno da constituição identitária da mulher; e iii) apresentar e discutir as principais abordagens teóricas sobre o ethos e o pathos ao longo da história e na atualidade, propondo por fim a adoção de uma perspectiva sociocognitiva acerca desses dois fenômenos. Para tanto, foram conjugadas interdisciplinarmente as contribuições teóricas de diversos campos do conhecimento: da Retórica Clássica, da Escola Americana da Nova Retórica, da Retórica Visual, da Análise do Discurso, dos Estudos Enunciativos, da Semiótica Social, bem como da Semiótica da Canção, sempre assumindo como principal norte teórico a sociocognição. O corpus analisado compõe-se dos seguintes videoclipes: Born this way (Lady Gaga, 2011), Firework (Katy Perry, 2010), Run the world (girls) (Beyoncé, 2011), Rolling in the deep (Adele, 2010) e Super bass (Nicki Minaj, 2011). A partir da amostra, realizei um estudo de caráter qualitativo, investigando exemplarmente a construção do ethos e do pathos nesses vídeos femininos selecionados, os quais se encontram dispostos em duas macrocategorias de análise: os ethe de engajamento (constituídos pelo ethos de identificação e pelo ethos de solidariedade) e os ethe de personalidade (formados pelo ethos de comandante ou líder, pelo ethos de humanidade e pelo ethos de ‘não-sério’ ou de ‘não-virtude’). Como resultado da análise, é possível concluir que as autoimagens construídas pelas cantoras em seus videoclipes se apresentam sob formas múltiplas, diversificadas e complexas, ao contrário do que apregoam os tradicionais estudos críticos de orientação feminista, os quais dicotomizam tais imagens entre boas (a serem usadas como modelo de comportamento) e más (a serem repelidas). Esta pesquisa situa-se na interface entre a Análise do Discurso e a Teoria da Argumentação no Discurso e visa a proceder à análise discursivo-argumentativa das primeiras páginas das edições de abril de 1964 dos jornais Correio da Manhã e O Globo. As análises mostram de que maneira o pathos contribui para a construção do ethos no discurso jornalístico, constatando como as emoções (ainda que não mostradas explicitamente no enunciado) participam da construção do posicionamento e da identidade discursiva dessas empresas de comunicação num momento específico de crise política. Para tanto, considera a produção desses discursos no bojo de uma relação polêmica controversa entre duas formações discursivas diametralmente opostas, a saber: uma revolucionária e uma antigolpista. Quanto aos procedimentos teórico-metodológicos da pesquisa, a depreensão da qualidade do pathos e do ethos discursivos baseou-se na análise da composição do layout da primeira página, da inter-relação dos gêneros jornalísticos no hipergênero primeira página jornalística, e do cenário passional. Os resultados da pesquisa revelam que as paixões construídas nas primeiras páginas do Correio da Manhã e dO Globo projetam dois ethé jornalísticos bem distintos que legitimam a enunciação de discursos com diferentes posicionamentos sobre o movimento político de 1964. Por fim, a pesquisa conclui o vínculo entre o pathos, o ethos, o posicionamento e a identidade discursiva de cada jornal no interior da polêmica entre as formações discursivas revolucionária e antigolpista.

This research lies at the interface between the Discourse Analysis and the Theory of Argumentation in Discourse and aims to examine the discursive-argumentative analysis of the front pages of the newspapers Correio da Manhã and O Globo published on April, 1964. The analysis show how the pathos contributes to the construction of the ethos in the journalistic discourse, evidencing how the emotions (though they are not explicitly shown in the enunciate) participate in the construction of the positioning and the discursive identity of these media companies in a specific moment of political crisis. To this end, we consider the production of these discourses inserted in a polemical and controversial relationship between the two discursive formations diametrically opposed, namely: a revolutionary and an anti-coup detat. As for the theoretical and methodological procedures of the research, the apprehension of the quality of the discursive pathos and the ethos is based on the analysis of the composition of the front pages layout, the interrelationship of the journalistic genres in the hypergenre front page, and the passional scenario. The results show that the passions constructed on the front pages of the Correio da Manhã and O Globo project two very distinct journalistic ethé which legitimize the enunciation of discourses of different positioning about political movement of 1964. ▼ This dissertation depicts the relationship between rhetorically and pedagogically limited versions of pathos and the types of writing instruction and writing practices that can inadvertently enact oppressive institutional, systemic, and ideological forces. Exploring various definitions, applications, and illustrations of pathos in composition scholarship and composition textbooks, I argue that contemporary representations of pathos are rhetorically and pedagogically restrictive. These restrictive representations negatively influence both students' writing and teachers' pedagogies in the first-year composition (FYC) classroom. I argue that definitions of pathos portray it as the artistic appeal most connected to the audience while implementations of pathos frequently delimit it to an appeal that only addresses academic audiences. This compression of audience subsequently contributes to an acculturating process that constrains approaches to teaching academic writing in FYC. Next, I analyze the relationship between logos and pathos through the enthymeme. Drawing from scholarship that suggests audiences insert pathos into enthymemes in order to inform logical appeals, I establish the enthymeme as constructed by the ideological commonplaces and assumptions of contemporary American society. While I consider the possibility that the enthymeme might be employed as a pedagogical tool to reveal racist assumptions and practices, I also recognize positions that challenge the degree to which academic writing, constituted of appeals to logocentrism, is able to perform such critiques in a politically transformative manner. Consequently, I examine the relationship between pathos and logos in the example, and after presenting definitions of the example, I argue that the employment of a pathos-infused example, one grounded in the personal, might perform such politically transformative work. In light of my analysis of pathos as depicted and employed in composition scholarship, I evaluate three contemporary first-year composition textbooks and their representations of pathos. In doing so, I observe that these textbooks' definitions of pathos often include warnings and applications of pathos that disconnect pathos from the ideological. Moreover, by focusing on pathos, I demonstrate that such textbooks inadvertently characterize rhetoric as an autonomous activity rather than a social one. Ultimately, this work suggests that reconsidering pathos in FYC might productively inform and interrupt logocentrism in American society. Advisors/Committee Members: Olson, Wendy (advisor).

▼ The research focuses on solutions to problems experienced in distinguishing between tragedy and pathos. The tragic is always characterised by emotions, and 'narrative can only be regarded as tragic through its tragic theme' (Steiner, 1961:16). Aristotle was the first to define tragedy he regards dramas/narratives as tragic if the protagonists die at the end, and the emotions of pity and fear are aroused. The tragedies Aristotle refers to all display emotional intensity, but are quite dissimilar. In some, the central emotions are evoked by the death of the protagonist, but in others there are events that are more intensely emotive than the death itself. In this study, the researcher provides an in-depth definition of the key concept 'tragedy', the different tragic emotions experienced and related concepts. Phatudi'sTladi wa Dikgati (1958) and Rammala's Lukas Mot helet hele (1963) prove clearly that there are two different types of tragedies, one of which contains pathos and the other contains tragedy. The research emphasises that these Sepedi narratives contain tragedy rather than mere pathos. The focus of this study is Sepedi tragic narratives, which have not previously been investigated in depth (Mohatlane, 2002:17). Only M.L. Bopape, P.M. Makgamatha and P.S.M. Mokgobu concentrated on tragic narratives, and P.M. Kgatla and P.S. Groenewald commented briefly on tragic narratives. The adopted narratological model employed in this research focuses plot and language usage, which are only briefly touched on in this research, as they have already been dealt with by prior theorists whose explanations of these narrative levels assist in understading the arrangement of the plot in tragic narratives. The research methodologies employed in analysing the structure of Sepedi tragic narratives/pathos to distinguish tragedy from pathos are descriptive, discussive and comperative. The researcher found few narratives containing pathos and tragedy in African languages, especially in Sepedi. The discussion of tragedy focuses on an analysis of the foundations, description, types and main characters (protagonists) of tragedy. Sepedi tragic narratives and pathos were influenced by Western culture; for example, Serudu's drama aka la peloga le tlale (1990) and G.H. Frans's Maaberone (1940) were influenced by Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet. In this study, pathos is defined as related to societal sympathy. Holman (1936:166) explains that the 'emotional events in pathos affect the main character, his/her family and relatives, and they are left alone in those miseries and are expected to solve those problems without help from society'. In texts containing pathos, the main character is neither a villain nor a model of perfection, but basically good and decent. Even though the protagonist is great, he dies, but not because of moral blindness or error. He receives empathy because of his good character. ▼ The purpose of this thesis is to read Kierkegaard’s thought through the philosophical notion of Limit as a hermeneutical key to understand both form and content. It is from this notion, basically defined by Kant as the boundary of reason (Grenze) and radically criticized by Hegel from the negative movement of Dialectics, that Kierkegaard is considered as an author who, besides demarcating an uncrossable boundary between philosophy and Christianity, what he makes is to become one himself. What we will try to show is, then, how Kierkegaard, precisely for the fact of being religious, performs the limit of philosophy in the same philosophical discourse and creates, in this way, a new style of doing philosophy, which consists no more about knowing the limit but acknowledging it and illuminating it negatively. With the concepts of Paradox, Sin and Silence, our study goes through the principal liminal situations of Kierkegaard’s work in searching for a negativity which, like Socratic irony, is not to be demarcated or overcome by thought, but one in which thought is itself crucified. The cross, as the symbol of Christian pathos, becomes thus the path and objective of every relation to the limit, since this happens to be the restriction and transition of our own being as humans, synthesis of finitude and infinitude, necessity and possibility, temporality and eternity. The passion for the truth in which Kierkegaard articulates all his work is thus reason’s own passion and death in the cross of the incomprehension of the paradox (the God-man) and all his activity as an author consists in making this clear, to suffer it in the texts of his multiple writings and to make its possible reader suffer as well. The pathos of limit as an existential and textual concept at the same time opens up a new sphere of action in the philosophical worry about the limit and helps to understand Kierkegaard beyond the “antihegelian” or “father of existentialism” to reconsider him as an author with a voice of his own, as a boundary thinker. Deliberately absurd in the precision of its dating, the sentence neatly registers a tipping point in a development that had been gathering force for nearly a hundred years. By the turn of the century, the loss of religious faith, the influence of psychology in raising questions about moral agency, and a widespread sense of dislocation and anomie had come to plague the novelists of the period. What did this change mean for the novel, and what did it mean for readers and writers? What kinds of persons could the novel now represent, and what kind of relationship could readers and other characters be expected to form with them? The Pathos of Modernism explores these questions of changing subjectivity and the new emotional economy these changes produced. Pathos, a term from ancient Greek rhetoric and dramaturgy, is an affect of distance, opacity, and ephemerality. It is an emotion that registers the inability of subjects to connect quite as intimately as they once did, asking instead that people be witnesses to each other's losses and sorrows. This is a turn away from the traditional novel and theories of sentiment by thinkers like Adam Smith and David Hume that it inherited. For while sympathy, the primary emotional register of the realist novel, asks people to share in each other's pain, pathos understands that such a request has become in the modernist period not only unanswerable but unethical. This is the situation of Virginia Woolf's Victorian Mr. Ramsay, whose request for sympathy feels more like a demand, a form of narcissism meant to subsume the needs, desires and even personalities of his peers. Henry James, Gertrude Stein (and J.M. Coetzee) represent a similar degradation of sympathy. Yet the eschewal of sympathy does not mean the dismissal of all affective investment or all potential for ethical engagement. And charting pathos as a new affective mode more suited to a new subject, the modernists offer an emotional economy that demands its own form of ethical action. Este trabalho tem como objetivo verificar o funcionamento argumentativo do éthos do orador num processo judicial, avaliando de que modo confere credibilidade ao discurso, especialmente o jurídico, contribuindo para sua eficácia. Segundo Aristóteles, o caráter do orador o éthos, é uma das três provas utilizadas para a obtenção da persuasão; as outras são o lógos o discurso, pelo que ele demonstra ou parece demonstrar e o pathos, as paixões suscitadas no ouvinte. Ainda segundo a retórica aristotélica, as qualidades éticas necessárias para a obtenção da persuasão e eficácia discursivas são a prudência (phrónesis), a virtude (areté) e a benevolência (eúnoia). São essas, pois, as características que se busca reconhecer nas peças dos autos. O discurso constrói ainda o tom de voz e a corporalidade identificadoras do sujeito da enunciação enunciador/enunciatário que, neste trabalho, também é tratado como orador. Destaque-se no entanto que, ao reconhecer o éthos do orador nos discursos de um processo judicial, esta pesquisa não define o ser ontológico, a que o texto não dá acesso, tãosomente chega à imagem do autor construída no texto. Além da antiga retórica, fundamentam o trabalho as teorias da argumentação recentes e a semiótica da Escola de Paris. Na análise ressalta-se a importância das paixões, base para a adesão entre o éthos do enunciador e o pathos do enunciatário: os simulacros sobre os quais se baseiam levam ao reconhecimento da solidariedade e benevolência do orador a eúnoia, a partir dos objetos de valor assumidos. Primeiramente, apresenta-se o processo judicial completo a partir da intensidade passional de cada uma das peças, reconhecida por meio de recursos definidos na própria pesquisa, aliando categorias da retórica e da semiótica greimasiana. A partir daí, visualiza-se num gráfico a modulação patêmica nos autos, base para reflexões a respeito do andamento e ritmo processual. A seguir, selecionam-se novas totalidades de análise, a fim de reconhecer nelas a phrónesis e a areté, as outras duas características éticas capazes de tornar o discurso confiável. É a partir do conjunto das três características que se delineam o éthos do advogado de defesa, o éthos do promotor e, finalmente, o éthos do magistrado. Enfim, apresenta-se um balanço acerca da eficácia persuasiva daqueles éthe definidos anteriormente e completa-se o trabalho com reflexões acerca da relação entre éthos, ideologia e sentido para o próprio Direito, com apoio na análise realizada. Nas considerações finais, destaca-se a importância de cada uma das características na obtenção da persuasão e do convencimento; a necessidade da demonstração de sabedoria e discernimento no discurso jurídico, mas a interdependência das três qualidades para que o discurso seja persuasivo e eficaz. Concluindo: a pesquisa propicia uma metodologia própria para a análise da argumentação, servindo a uma compreensão maior do processo argumentativo, do próprio Direito e da sociedade brasileira; além disso, oferece possíveis aplicações no ensino.

Ce travail vise à porter un nouvel éclairage sur la Thébaïde de Stace en recourant au Traité du Sublime. Celui-Ci constitue un instrument herméneutique contemporain des littératures néronienne et flavienne, libéré des projections de la pensée esthétique moderne, à même de préciser l’univers de l’épopée. Notre étude s’attache d’abord à définir la notion de sublime, telle que la présente le Pseudo-Longin. Elle analyse ensuite l’importance de la passion dans le Traité du Sublime comme dans la Thébaïde et découvre les liens qui unissent les deux oeuvres : une même conception de la création poétique, audacieuse et transgressive, un même attrait pour les élans passionnels, la même recherche d’une réception sur le mode du choc, mettant en jeu des sentiments de terreur et d’admiration. Le sublime se manifeste dans le ravissement du poète, des personnages, dans les représentations spectaculaires de l’horreur ou d’une nature bouleversée. Le Traité du Sublime se révèle alors un outil intéressant pour appréhender les interférences génériques à l’oeuvre dans la Thébaïde. This work aims at shedding new light on Statius’ Thebaid by having recourse to On the Sublime, which constitutes a contemporary hermeneutic instrument for Neronian and Flavian literature, freed from the projections of modern aesthetic thought. First of all, I try to define the notion of the sublime as it is presented by Longinus. Then I try to analyse the importance of passion in On the Sublime as in the Thebaid and to reveal the links between the two works : the same conception of an audacious poetic creation, the same attraction to outbursts of passion, the same desire to create a shockwave on reception by bringing into play feelings of terror and admiration. The sublime is to be found in the ecstasy of the poet and the characters and in the spectacular portrayal of horror or of disordered nature. On the Sublime is therefore an interesting tool to understand the generic interferences at work in the Thebaid. It highlights the tragic in passion, which is to be found in the theme of tyranny and which gives rise to tension within the epic thus rendering the characters more complex and bringing into question traditional heroism.

This dissertation investigates the conception of asceticism on two German philosophers, Arthur Schopenhauer and Friedrich Nietzsche. Whereas there isn t a precise language to mediate this two philosophies, we apply the concepts of pathos and ethos to make a dialog between the German philosophers, which allow us to investigate how these concepts appear in the cosmological and ethical parts of their theories. Especially in the Nietzsche s philosophy, we concentrate the researches on his third period. We use mainly the books Genealogy of Moral, Beyond Good and Evil and The Antichrist. About Schopenhauer s books, we use mainly the two volumes of The World as Will and Representation. Our conclusion is that, on Schopenhauer s doctrine, the cosmological effectiveness (Wirklichkeit) is pathos, but the metaphysical reality (RealitÃt) is ethos. Therefore the asceticism is a sui generis pathos on Schopenhauer: when the will extraordinarily makes a turn, it makes the negation of the will, it does not become an absolute nothing. It become a relative nothing, a negative pathos. The same does not occur to Nietzsche. According to the philosopher of the will to power, the will never negates itself. All the effectiveness is always pathos and there is no ethos: the world is always pathos, in all aspects. The asceticism is an ordinary case of the will to power (Wille zur Macht) and the ascetic pathos is merely a strategy of a form of life to conserve itself in existence.

Esta dissertaÃÃo investiga a concepÃÃo de ascetismo nos filÃsofos alemÃes, Arthur Schopenhauer e Friedrich Nietzsche. Considerando que nÃo hÃ uma linguagem precisa para mediar estas duas filosofias, aplicamos os conceitos de pathos e ethos para criar o diÃlogo entre os dois filÃsofos alemÃes, o que nos permite investigar como esses conceitos aparecem nas partes cosmolÃgicas e Ãticas das suas teorias. Na filosofia nietzschiana, concentramos nossas pesquisas no seu terceiro perÃodo, principalmente os livros Genealogia da moral, AlÃm de bem e mal e O anticristo. Em relaÃÃo Ãs obras schopenhauerianas, utilizamos principalmente os dois volumes de O mundo como vontade e representaÃÃo. Nossa conclusÃo Ã que, na doutrina schopenhaueriana, a efetividade cosmolÃgica (Wirklichkeit) Ã pathos, mas a realidade metafÃsica (RealitÃt) Ã ethos. Assim, o ascetismo Ã um pathos sui generis em Schopenhauer: quando a vontade extraordinariamente faz uma viragem, ou seja, faz a negaÃÃo da vontade, ela nÃo se torna um nada absoluto, mas se torna um nada relativo, um pathos negativo. O mesmo nÃo acontece em Nietzsche. Para o filÃsofo da vontade de potÃncia, a vontade jamais nega a si mesma. Toda efetividade Ã sempre pathos e nÃo hÃ ethos algum: o mundo Ã sempre pathos, em todos os seus aspectos. O ascetismo Ã um caso ordinÃrio da vontade de potÃncia (Wille zur Macht) e o pathos ascÃtico Ã apenas uma estratÃgia de uma forma de vida para conservar-se na existÃncia.

El siguiente texto se dirige a la discusión sobre el significado de la educación convencional en contraposición a la concepción krishnamurtiana de Educación Correcta que, en este contexto, analizamos sobre la perspectiva de la Educación Integral, la cual propone pensar el ente humano como totalidad, es decir, pathos, ratio, psyche, libertas y las posibilidades de ellas derivables. De ese modo se propone, reflexionar sobre la educación para que esta pueda continuamente repensarse, reestructurarse y dialogar con sus carencias y necesidades, constituyéndose en un eslabón entre la existencia y la construcción del sujeto mientras sea ente humano integral que carece de transformación de su ser, más allá de informaciones técnicas profesionales. Utilizamos como fondo las perspectivas propuestas por las post-modernidad, considerando las influencias que tal contexto ocasiona para la formación del individuo mientras sea un ente en relación con la existencia, con alteración y en especial, consigo propio, con sus conflictos, deseos y humanidades.

O texto remete-se à discussão acerca do sentido e significado da educação convencional contraposto à concepção krishnamurtiana de Educação Correta que, neste contexto, analisamos sob a perspectiva da Educação Integral, a qual propõe pensar o ente humano como totalidade, isto é, pathos, ratio, psyche, libertas e as possibilidades daí engendráveis. Propõe-se, deste modo, refletir sobre a educação para que esta possa continuamente repensar-se, reestruturar-se e dialogar com suas carências e necessidades, constituindo-se em um elo de ligação entre a existência e a construção do sujeito enquanto ente humano integral que carece de (trans)formação do seu ser além de informações técnicas profissionais. Utilizamos como pano de fundo as perspectivas propostas pela pós-modernidade, considerando as influências que tal contexto ocasiona para a formação do indivíduo enquanto ente relacional com a existência,com a alteridade e, em especial, consigo mesmo, com seus conflitos, desejos e humanidades.

O presente trabalho propõe uma interpretação da filosofia nietzschiana e, mais exatamente, de dois aspectos fundamentais e constituintes da sua filosofia, a saber, a discussão sobre a linguagem e o problema sobre o trágico e a tragédia grega. A dita interpretação configura-se por meio de uma leitura de cisão expressa em termos de oposição entre o pathos artístico e a consciência moral, justificada pelo próprio titulo: Nietzsche: pathos artístico versus consciência moral. O pathos artístico associa-se, sobretudo, com a força pulsional que conduz à criação. Essa é a razão pela qual foi escolhida essa noção em vez da palavra arte, destacando-se que não se trata apenas de um fenômeno cultural que a palavra arte habitualmente denota, mas de uma efetivação da própria vida (Wirklichkeit) a partir da criação. O trabalho foi pensado em duas partes, contemplando os dois problemas enfatizados na pesquisa, a saber, a discussão sobre a linguagem, em que se enfoca a relação entre a metáfora e o conceito, por um lado, e o problema sobre o trágico junto à pretensão do filósofo de se intitular o primeiro filósofo trágico, por outro. A partir da análise desses dois problemas que surgem no período juvenil de Nietzsche e, certamente, enunciam a futura trajetória do seu pensamento, tentamos mostrar que Nietzsche ao contrário do que alguns comentadores afirmam, dentre os quais Heidegger conseguiu romper com a concepção teórica que subjaz a todo pensamento filosófico desde a era de Sócrates e Platão, por meio da arma poderosa da arte, que, aqui, por uma razão peculiar denominamos pathos artístico.

The present work proposes an interpretation of the nietszchinian philosophy and, more specifically, of two fundamental and constitutive aspects of his thought, that are: the discussion about the language and the question about the tragic and the Greek tragedy. The reported interpretation is configured through a reading of split expressed as opposition between the artistic pathos and the ethical consciousness, justified by the proper title: Nietzsche, artistic pathos versus ethic consciousness. The artistic pathos is associated, mainly, with the pulsional strength that leads to the creation. This is the reason through what was chosen this notion, instead of the word art, putting in prominence that this isnt just a cultural phenomenon that the word art, usually means, but of an accomplishment of the life, itself (Wirklchkeit) from the creation. The work was developed in two parts, observing the two points emphasized in the research: the discussion about the language that focuses the relation between the metaphor and the concept, by a side, and the problem about the tragic connected to the pretension of the philosopher of denominating himself as the first tragic philosopher, by another. This paper intends to explore the ambiguity of the term passion, as lack or as excess, in correlation with love in the relationship mother-child, coming particularly from the autism. Therefore, a broader journey was necessary, that is: on the subject s structuring and its vicissitudes. We began from a clinical case in which a mother, apparently marked by the a-pathy, takes his son and makes the analyst uncomfortable. The maternal failure is, thus, called in question. In what measure does the maternal apathy contribute to take the child to a psychopathology as serious as the autism, impeding him from constituting as a subject? And more: and the opposite? The excess, that is, the passion, would not have consequences? Would not it contribute also to this? Suddenly the clinic itself gives us subsidies to articulate the research. No longer the apathy, but the passion in its excessive and deadly aspect. How understanding two so different aspects of passion ? This way, several strings apparently different are being tied until we reach the conclusion that, between passion and "maternal love", there is an abyss. This research is over or it is interrupted here, when it can only move forward making a deeper study of the female subjectivity question

Este trabalho se dedica a explorar a ambigüidade do termo paixão, como falta ou como excesso, em correlação com o amor na relação mãe-criança, partindo particularmente do autismo. Para tanto, fez-se necessário um percurso mais abrangente, ou seja: sobre a estruturação do sujeito e suas vicissitudes. Partimos de um caso clínico em que uma mãe aparentemente marcada pela a-patia traz seu filho e produz incômodo na analista. O fracasso materno é, assim, questionado. Em que medida a apatia materna contribui para levar a criança à psicopatologia tão grave como o autismo, impedindo-a de constituir-se como sujeito? E mais: e o seu oposto? O excesso, ou seja, a paixão também não teria conseqüências? Eis que a própria clínica nos dá subsídios para articular a pesquisa. Não mais a apatia, mas a paixão em seu aspecto excessivo e mortífero. Como compreender duas presentificações da paixão tão diferentes? Desta forma, diversos fios aparentemente diversos vão se amarrando até chegarmos a conclusão de que entre a paixão e o amor materno há um abismo. Esta pesquisa termina ou se interrompe aqui. No momento em que só pode avançar com o aprofundamento da questão da feminilidade

The human has being reaching higher and higher ages as time goes by. Civilizations all over the world are going through an irreversible process of aging populations which does not affect only several cultures but also makes us face more singular and subjective questions related to psychic work that deals with the passage from adulthood to the senile phase of life. Fundamental Psychopathology - from the point of view of its dedication and comprehension of pathic phenomenon as a constituting art of the individual offers us, a long with the psychoanalytical metapsychology and clinical practice, a rich material that assists us in the comprehension of the psychological aspects of natural aging and senility. Senile dementia present themselves as a psychopathological phenomenon, typical of this phase of life, that hot only affect the patient, but also all those around him. Therefore, the goal of this paper, besides amplifying the knowledge of this symptomathological picture, is to consider the psychopathological as a fertile and therapeutical ground, able to supply, through transference, a healthy meet among the several psychic moments and the nature of the agind body

▼ Forskning visar att företag idag bör engagera människor emotionellt snarare än rationellt för att förmedla budskap. Storytelling är ett effektfullt verktyg med fördelen att kunna engagera människor på en emotionell nivå samt att det kan nyttjas inom flera användningsområden. För att genomslagskraften ska bli så stor som möjligt måste företagen ha kontroll över vad det är för budskap som sänds ut. Diskussioner förs dock gällande att dagens företag inte anses ha den rätta kunskapen om storytelling samt att det saknas dokumenterad teori om ämnet. Detta gör att fler studier inom området är av betydelse för storytellingens framtida utveckling. Reklamfilm är en kommunikationskanal som kan användas för att förmedla budskap. Genom reklamfilm kan företag på så vis använda storytelling för att fånga människors uppmärksamhet vilket bland annat kan leda till att stärka ett varumärkes trovärdighet. Problematiken ligger i hur storytelling kan användas i reklamfilm för att förmedla och förstärka budskap. Studien syftar till att öka förståelsen för hur företaget Ikea använder storytelling i mediet reklamfilm för att förmedla samt förstärka budskap. För att uppnå studiens syfte har vi utgått från tre frågeställningar vilket således resulterat i att studiens struktur byggts utifrån tre perspektiv. Det första perspektivet berör ethos, pathos och logos vilket är grunden för retorisk analys samt övertygande kommunikation. Den andra delen handlar om semiotik som syftar till att beskriva och tolka reklamfilmerna genom semiotiska tecken och symboler. Den tredje och sista delen som studien utgörs av är storytellingens fem steg för att skapa genomslagskraft i berättelser. Med hjälp av den etnografiska innehållsanalys som genomförts på reklamfilm har vi studerat dessa tre perspektiv i relation till vetenskaplig litteratur då det hjälpt oss att besvara studiens frågeställningar och därmed uppnå studiens syfte. Ikeas reklamfilmer har blivit föremål för analys då Ikea anses vara ett företag som framgångsrikt arbetar med storytelling för att förmedla budskap, stärka varumärke och för att nå ut till nya potentiella kunder. Studien resulterade vidare i slutsatser om hur Ikea arbetar med storytelling genom reklamfilm och även förslag på hur vi anser att de kan bli ännu bättre.

L’objet de cette thèse est d’étudier les changements qui s’opèrent au cours du XVIIe siècle dans la manière dont les passions sont exprimées et représentées dans la fiction narrative en prose. Avec le passage des longs romans aux nouvelles galantes, la date de 1660 est souvent considérée comme une date charnière pour le genre romanesque. Ce renouveau formel intéresse tout particulièrement la question de l’affectivité – aussi bien sur les plans stylistique, énonciatif que pragmatique. Alors que l’expression pathétique se voit redéfinie par la critique de l’ornement et la promotion du naturel, les vicissitudes du roman semblent en partie corrélées à celles de l’art de parler. Travaillant sur le siècle en son entier, à partir d’un vaste choix de textes fictionnels, de rhétoriques et de poétiques, nous avons voulu décrire une à une les étapes de ce bouleversement. Cette mise en perspective invite à nuancer le caractère novateur de la nouvelle historique et galante. Si le roman baroque se présente comme une anthologie de discours passionnés, on assiste, dès les années 1620, à l’effacement de la voix narrative et, par conséquent, des marques d’une narration émue. De même, le psycho-récit qui est associé dans l’histoire littéraire à La Princesse de Clèves est déjà une technique narrative bien attestée dans le premier XVIIe siècle. Nous inscrivant dans la lignée d’une histoire des formes littéraires, nous souhaiterions proposer une nouvelle périodisation du genre romanesque, à partir de l’examen de la sémiotisation des passions.

This PhD dissertation aims at studying the changes that took place during the XVIIth century in the way passions are expressed and represented in narrative fiction in prose. With the transition from long novels (« longs romans ») to the « nouvelles galantes », the year 1660 is often considered a landmark date for the novelistic genre. This formal renewal has a particular bearing on the question of affectivity, from a stylistic, enunciative and pragmatic point of view. Whereas pathetic expression is redefined by the critique of ornament and the promotion of the natural, the vissicitudes of the novel seem to be partly correlated to those of the art of speaking. By taking the whole century as our object of study, through a vast choice of fictional, rhetoric and poetic texts, we have tried to describe one by one the stages of this evolution. This perspective leads us to qualify the innovative character of the « nouvelle historique et galante ». The baroque novel presents itself as an anthology of passionate discourses. However, from the 1620s on, a fading away of the narrative voice, and consequently of the marks of an emotional narration, take place. Equally, the psycho-narration associated in literary history with the Princesse de Clèves is already a well attested narrative technique in the first XVIIth century. Following the tradition of the history of literary forms, we wish to offer a new periodisation of the novelistic genre, through the analysis of the semiotisation of passions.

▼ This dissertation analyses Lukas Motšheletšhele, the first novel written by M.M. Rammala, who also wrote Rangwane ke go Paletše (1971) and Mabosebosane (s.a.). Lukas Motšheletšhele is a tragic novel. M.O. Dona (1994) and P.S. Groenewald (1995) have already analysed this text, but these scholars did not discuss the content, plot and style of the text. Dona focused on feminism and Groenewald on characterisation and genre. Therefore the main objective of this study is to investigate two levels, content and plot, of Lukas Motšheletšhele. This investigation uses a narratological method, involving the two phases of definition of terms and interpretation of concepts. These processes clarified the problems to be addressed in the study. Literary works are found to have three layers, namely content, plot and style. This dissertation only discusses the first two layers; style is explained but not discussed. Regarding content, topic is an important concept, emphasised in this study, because it creates a coherent link between characters, events, time and place. Regarding plot, the important concept to be highlighted is theme, which links the events of the plot. Theme focuses the message of the text and creates suspense in readers. The theme of Lukas Motšheletšhele is discrimination by a parent in the family. Evangelist Motšheletšhele favours his last son more than his other children. Four other important concepts, namely actions, characters, place and time are also discussed. Characters are grouped into two categories, namely major and minor characters. The major characters are then divided into two groups, kind persons and bad persons. In Lukas Motšheletšhele, the kind-hearted person is the well behaved Onika, and quarrelsome person is Evangelist Motšheletšhele, who opposes Onika’s kindness. These characters are described according to their intention, patronage, resistance, assistance and success. In the novel, factors that assist Evangelist Motšheletšhele resist Onika, and vice versa. Another important aspect of plot is design, which has several facets. For example, some aspects of plot design are important for developing the theme, others show the general behaviour of the antagonist and protagonist, and others identify the genre of the literary work. Lukas Motšheletšhele can be classified as a tragedy. In the denouement, the hero, Evangelist Motšheletšhele, falls from his high position of social status and respect and dies due to his false deeds, which is the classic structure of a tragic plot. The plot is discussed in four stages, namely exposition, development, climax and denouement. How the author displays the characters, events, time and place to reveal his aim is also discussed. The concept of technique is thoroughly explained, and examples given from the novel. Particularly, the 14 techniques used to characterize the protagonist, Evangelist Motšheletšhele, are discussed. These techniques are used to disclose his high status and weaknesses, which relate to his bad behaviour. Trata da estética trágica na Pedagogia. E, por isso, percorre o universo da Tragédia Grega. Não apenas para contemplar a ação, mas para simulá-la, absorvê-la, recriá-la. Para isso, esse texto faz uso de máscaras, de personagens, de lugares, de autores e obras. Também de escolas, alunos, professores, didáticas, procedimentos de ensino-aprendizagem. Não para dizer o já dito, já citado, já escrito. Mas para explorar os recursos expressivos da cena trágica. Faz-se de autor-ator, de intérprete-educador, de anônimo do coro. Ele chama por Dionísio, mas não esquece Apolo. Lê a arte grega a partir da filosofia nietzschiana. Lê a morte pela ótica da vida, a vida pela ótica da morte. Mas não se trata da vida comum. Porém, da vida na perspectiva de potência inesgotável. E, nessa perspectiva, fabula, varia, desloca, inverte, perverte, ensaia, experimenta. Diz não ao senso comum das práticas pedagógicas. Diz sim aos devires estéticos da existência. Quiçá: uma ética. Ética dos heróis homéricos. Das personagens esquilianas. Mas também do indivíduo docente. É fato que não cumpre regras de conduta, de moralização do conhecimento. Embebe-se da cotidianidade. Não para admirá-la. Mas para bestializá-la. Esquece fórmulas prontas, problemas seculares. Fragmenta e percorre, difere e sintetiza. As idéias tomam formam a partir do texto, objeto de estudo. E um texto recorre a outro, intertexto. São blocos de sensações: do amado, do vivido. Também do detestado, do odiado, do cuspido e escarrado. Porém, Dionísio sempre volta com uma máscara diferente. Nesta tese, ele surge como: Rousseau, Santo Agostinho, Raimundo Lúlio, Platão, Heráclito, Montaigne, Comenius, Os Jesuítas, Descartes, Kant; e mais ainda: Homero, Ésquilo, Sófocles e Eurípedes. Multiplica-se para se sentir em cada frase. Despedaça-se para iludir o todo. Baila e canta a canção do bode. Bode expiatório da Pedagogia. Mas ela também baila com os sátiros. No seu interior vibra uma didática-artista, vontade de perecer e renascer. De pertencer a todo o universo. Tal Pedagogia foge do pedagógico como as crianças fogem da escola. No entanto, como as crianças, ela insiste. No vão da máscara trágica: o brilho dos olhos permanece.

Es geht um die tragische Schönheit in Pädagogik. Und, so geht, die Welt der griechische Tragödie. Nicht nur um die Aktion zu betrachten, sondern sie zu simulieren, absorbieren es, neu erstellen. ▼ This dissertation analyses Lukas Motšheletšhele, the first novel written by M.M. Rammala, who also wrote Rangwane ke go Paletše (1971) and Mabosebosane (s.a.). Lukas Motšheletšhele is a tragic novel. M.O. Dona (1994) and P.S. Groenewald (1995) have already analysed this text, but these scholars did not discuss the content, plot and style of the text. Dona focused on feminism and Groenewald on characterisation and genre. Therefore the main objective of this study is to investigate two levels, content and plot, of Lukas Motšheletšhele. This investigation uses a narratological method, involving the two phases of definition of terms and interpretation of concepts. These processes clarified the problems to be addressed in the study. Literary works are found to have three layers, namely content, plot and style. This dissertation only discusses the first two layers; style is explained but not discussed. Regarding content, topic is an important concept, emphasised in this study, because it creates a coherent link between characters, events, time and place. Regarding plot, the important concept to be highlighted is theme, which links the events of the plot. Theme focuses the message of the text and creates suspense in readers. The theme of Lukas Motšheletšhele is discrimination by a parent in the family. Evangelist Motšheletšhele favours his last son more than his other children. Four other important concepts, namely actions, characters, place and time are also discussed. Characters are grouped into two categories, namely major and minor characters. The major characters are then divided into two groups, kind persons and bad persons. In Lukas Motšheletšhele, the kind-hearted person is the well behaved Onika, and quarrelsome person is Evangelist Motšheletšhele, who opposes Onika’s kindness. These characters are described according to their intention, patronage, resistance, assistance and success. In the novel, factors that assist Evangelist Motšheletšhele resist Onika, and vice versa. Another important aspect of plot is design, which has several facets. For example, some aspects of plot design are important for developing the theme, others show the general behaviour of the antagonist and protagonist, and others identify the genre of the literary work. Lukas Motšheletšhele can be classified as a tragedy. In the denouement, the hero, Evangelist Motšheletšhele, falls from his high position of social status and respect and dies due to his false deeds, which is the classic structure of a tragic plot. The plot is discussed in four stages, namely exposition, development, climax and denouement. How the author displays the characters, events, time and place to reveal his aim is also discussed. The concept of technique is thoroughly explained, and examples given from the novel. Particularly, the 14 techniques used to characterize the protagonist, Evangelist Motšheletšhele, are discussed. These techniques are used to disclose his high status and weaknesses, which relate to his bad behaviour. ▼ This thesis investigates the way that Apollonios constructs Medea’s psyche and body in response to contemporary medical and philosophical influences in order to portray realistically the way that erōs manifests itself in Medea as both sickness and mental illness. Apollonios delves into Medea’s psyche and exposes how it functions in moments of intense desire, pain, indecision and introspection while under the powerful sways of erōs. Medea’s erōs manifests as erratic and dangerous behaviour and crippling indecision, the analysis of which is done in light of Chrusippos’ discussion of Euripides’ Medea’s akrasia. Apollonios draws from Euripides’ version to depict Medea in a different stage of her life, making a similar life-altering decision: whether or not to help Jason and betray her family or stay at home and watch him die. Apollonios makes the audience sympathize with Medea by showing her as a victim of destructive erōs and by exhibiting her emotional suffering. He heightens the degree that the internal is depicted and the very fact that he does internalize Medea shows an interest in her side of the story. It humanizes her to see her motivations, her fears, her desires and her moral dilemmas. Apollonios twists the image of Medea that an audience may expect to see by focusing, in Book 3 at least, almost entirely on her maidenhood and her struggle between exercising maidenly shame and giving in to the temptation of Jason. Apollonios makes the audience understand and sympathize with Medea by delving into the workings of her psyche and explaining her pleasure and pain, and most importantly, explaining why she cannot act rationally. erōs also manifests itself inside Medea and in turn this is expressed in Medea’s outward appearance as medical symptoms, like those of fever. In addition, by incorporating contemporary medical discoveries like the nervous system Apollonios is able to utilize the new conceptions of sense-perception to realistically show the way that destructive emotions manifest themselves as perceivable physical pain. Apollonios draws on philosophical and medical influences to heighten the realism of Medea’s physical and psychological pain and pleasure while simultaneously providing a forceful warning of the destructiveness of erōs’ nature. ▼ Denna undersökning behandlar svensklärares undervisning på gymnasienivå ur en retorisk synvinkel. Dagens klassrum är en retorisk arena där läraren fungerar som den centralaste kommunikatören och aktören. Läraren har utan undantag ansvaret över den muntliga relationen i undervisningen. Lärarens kunskaper i retorik påverkar bl.a. hur hen uppbygger sina lektioner, hur skicklig hen är som talare och hur trovärdig hen anses vara av sin publik. Det primära syftet med undersökningen är att få fram och beskriva om svensklärare i gymnasier ser på sin undervisning ur en retorisk synvinkel och hur den retoriska partesmodellen avspeglas i deras undervisning. Det sekundära syftet är att utreda hur svensklärare är som talare och vilka tankar de har om sig själva som talare. Retorikens partesmodell och teorin om den retoriska triaden (innefattande de tre talarorienterade appellformerna ethos, logos och pathos) utformar den teoretiska referensramen för denna undersökning. De klassiska teorierna om retorik får stöd av studier och teorier av Lennart Hellspong (2002), Tina Kindeberg (2011) och Hans Gunnarsson (2012), vilka behandlar retorik i samband med pedagogik. Materialet har samlats in vid tre olika gymnasier genom semistrukturerade, kvalitativa intervjuer. Sex svensklärare har intervjuats för studien. Observation, fältanteckningar och videoinspelning har använts som övriga insamlingsmetoder för studien. Dessa metoder har använts för att komplettera intervjuinnehållet. Materialet analyseras genom innehållsanalys. Vid innehållsanalysen bildar jag kategorier ur svensklärarnas beskrivningar och intervjusvar vilka jag sedan jämför med partesmodellens olika arbetsfaser. Med hjälp av innehållsanalysen tar jag reda på hur svensklärarna ser på sin undervisning ur en retorisk synvinkel, hur partesmodellens olika arbetsfaser avspeglas i deras undervisning och hurdana tankar svensklärarna har om sig som talare. De bildade kategorierna skapar analysens struktur och organisering samt de åskådliggörande exemplen. Undersökningens resultat visar att majoriteten av de intervjuade ser på sin undervisning ur en retorisk synvinkel, men att den retoriska partesmodellen endast fungerar som ett omedvetet stöd för svensklärarna. Resultaten visar också att en svensklärare av dessa sex som intervjuats aktivt ser på sin undervisning ur en retorisk synvinkel och medvetet stöder sig på den retoriska partesmodellen i sin undervisning och sitt arbete. Som talare fäster alla informanter uppmärksamhet på de talarorienterade egenskaperna. Resultaten visar att av de talarorienterade egenskaperna har logos och pathos störst betydelse för svensklärarna medan ethos blir underordnat i svensklärarnas beskrivningar och tankar om sig själva som talare. Resultaten visar att fältanteckningarna och observationerna i stort sätt korrelerar med intervjusvaren.
