1. Tunková, Martina. Městské lázně: The Municipal Baths.

Degree: 2018, Brno University of Technology

"The sick body needs a doctor friend sick souls."

Hlavní povrch tvoří černý a krémově bílý mramor. Hlavní schodiště v lázních je železobetonové.; Territory is located in the District of Pisárky. On a wider territory I in the first semester began study; which is partially part of the vendor. Urban concept was to create a link with the town to the East of the land. The city I have as a real Spa Bath Spa procedures-peat baths and facials; hydrotherapy; but also as a place for recreation and relaxation. Shape object suggests beveled letter u; where space is publicly accessible. The reception you can fit into the tub; or walk in a public area of the square with individual shops on the ground; on the one side of the building and on the other with glass façade of the Spa. The square is a quiet and offers possible passage across the whole territory of The Old Brno a pleasant environment. Studio Building is divided into two parts. One is leaseable for shops and services. This feature extends over two floors. In the third floor are leaseable areas of medical practice; rehabilitation and support services for exercise groups; with the health and care of the body and mind. The second part of the object is made up of Club Spa. The only entrance on reception; which separates the two parts are inputs into changing rooms that make up the filter; both the control and purity. From changing rooms is an open floor plan with the individual features (hydrotherapy; peat bath; sauna; steam room and more); which goes back to the same height as the two floors of shops. There are indeed placed salt walls and sunbeds; which together with the salt walls creates a pleasant place to relax. Space is a giant "salty cave" for high quality and pleasant air. In the second; third floor; the baths of sophisticated features whirlpooly; swimming pools; both indoor and outdoor pool with terrace; masseurs; leaseable sauna and steam; whirlpooly-specific features; again rest rooms consisting of frills bunks and bars of salt. In this deck is also an indoor pool with changing rooms fully close the private actions. In two ground floors; parking on the total capacity of 172. The main surface is black and cream-white marble. On the external walls; marble polished; internal walls in a matte. This luxury material is accompanied by a large format perfect ceramics tile in the Interior; large glass surfaces and the bars of the smattering salt which musicians. Technological divorce under the ceilings are covered with pasterboard ceilings except parking deck; where installation is kept loose under the ceiling. A perimeter wall is designed from gange-sand blocks; otherwise a monolithic system consist of skeleton. As well as internal splitter are gange-sand blocks with marble coating. The window openings are fitted with aluminium frame Schueco in a dark metallic colour. The main staircase at the steel cocrete.

2. Turnšek, Sašo. VPLIV GEOMETRIJSKIH ELEMENTOV NA PREVOZNO HITROST V ENOPASOVNIH KROŽNIH KRIŽIŠČIH.

Degree: 2014, Univerza v Mariboru

(more)

Subjects/Keywords: krožna križišča; prevozna hitrost; geometrijski elementi; kot defleksije; uvozni kot; In comparison with other types of grade crossings; roundabouts are recognised as a type of level crossings with a relatively high capacity and permeability ensuring a higher level of road safety. One of the most important steps in the design process of the roundabout is the choice of the size; angle and radius on entry and exit legs of the roundabout. The splitter islands lead driver and also "suggest" the chosen direction and the form of way that drivers follow through the roundabout. If the roundabout is not well designed (too small deflexion); there is a greater chance of a »straight ahead« maneuver at higher speed than is desirable. This might result in a deterioration of road safety (increase of conflict); as well as a decrease in capacity (the greater the speed of a single entry; the larger the average delay of vehicles on next entrypoints). In this master's thesis; we examined the speeds through different geometrical shapes of single-lane roundabouts on the national road network in Slovenia. Degree: Fakultet organizacionih nauka, 2018, Univerzitet u Beogradu

(more)

Subjects/Keywords: The subject of this thesis is the development of an e-business model based on flexible participation of households in the Serbian energy market. The goal is the development of a sustainable and suitable e-business model that enables households as well as individual devices to participate in the balancing market as well as the energy exchange through the use of smart grid concepts and demand response technologies. By enabling the participation of individual households in the balancing market; a new mechanism for frequency control of energy grids is possible; which allows for the future adoption of renewables. Energy markets are traditionally B2B e-business models; which facilitate for business processes between the energy producers and the system operators. With the deregulation of energy markets; new ways of doing business are becoming possible; primarily for households for whom the participation in the market allows for greater flexibility and efficiency in the balancing mechanism and the potential to improve the stability of the energy grid as a whole. The business model proposed in this dissertation is based on the business rules as well as regulations that are currently in place in the Republic of Serbia. The implementation of the technical segment of the model is based on the design of a distributed infrastructure for the coordination of a large number of individual users and devices with the goal of providing demand response services to the energy market. Business intelligence tools; as well as analytical models; will be used for the purpose of data extraction and analysis as well as to manage the system in real time. The advantage of the proposed model is in the fact that it is adapted for energy markets that are still in development; as well as its capability to adapt to new technological trends and its integration with smart grid technologies. The dissertation gives the analysis of readiness of customers and market participants for the application of the propsed model.

Subjects/Keywords: Social Perceptions; International Students Persons with DisabilitiesAbstract This research project measured the social perceptions of international students from Saint Cloud State University; (SCSU); a regional comprehensive university in the Midwest; as well as; non-international participants about persons with disabilities. Participants completed the four-hour “Embracing the Difference: The ABILITY Event” held by the Rehabilitation Counseling Graduate Department at SCSU. The researcher used a pre and post-survey to determine the perceptions students and community members hold towards people with disabilities. The primary goal of this project was to evaluate if social perceptions changed by the international students; and in what areas. Areas assessed were work; relationships; and general communication. International participant responses were compared to those of the domestic participants. The “Embracing the Difference: The ABILITY Event” had two main components: 1) Experiential Learning Scenarios (ELS) which are hands on experiences facilitated by person(s) who live with the specific physical; emotional and/or mental inconveniences; and vendors in the field of disability; and 2) a Post-ELS "Panel; " lead by ELS facilitators. It was hypothesized that international students would show an increase in all areas of the post surveys. Furthermore; it was hypothesized that all participants would show an increase in their social perceptions of persons with physical; emotional and mental inconveniences. While not all areas of the post-survey were statistically significant; overall participants perceptions changed from a stereotypical stigma to a more positive view after participating in the "Embracing the Difference: The ABILITY event!"

6. Pásztor, Bálint I. 1979-.

Degree: Pravni fakultet, 2018, Univerzitet u Beogradu

Društvene nauke / Ustavno pravo Social sciences / constitutional law

(more)

Subjects/Keywords: The following question can be raised: Are parliaments still the true bearers of the legislative power; or paraphrasing Hobbes: it is assumed who the legislator is; but is it also known? The subject of this thesis are the limits that parliaments are facing today while exercising their normative roles. These limitations are both internal and external; and may be traditional or of new origin. Today efficiency and speed are key expectations; it seems that parliaments as legislators are losing their breath and are facing many limitations in their role that has for centuries been their ”basic one”: their legislative role. The fact that the focus of power is increasingly shifting towards the executive branch of power even in countries with parliamentary systems of governance is not a novelty anymore. Parliaments; however; do not only face the limits placed before them by the governments throughout the legislative process. The key role of political parties; the relativization of the classical concept of sovereignty; and other limiting factors of the legislative role of parliaments; which need further examination; may lead to the modification of their functions in modern states. The aim of the dissertation is to through thoroughly selected scientific sources and relying on a decade-long experience as Member of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia precisely determine and rationally examine and draft an academic position about the role of parliaments today with regard to the limitations in their legislative function. We started off from the hypothesis that the legislative function of parliaments is set by the constitution; and narrowed by the ever increasing role of the governments in the legislative process; by political parties and other participants in the legislative procedure; as well as by the relativization of national sovereignty in the framework of international integration and also by the impact of global economic flows.

Degree: 2013, Tartu University

Käibekohustused on inimeste kooseksisteerimise ohutuse tagamiseks kohtupraktika kaudu loodud käitumisreeglid. (more)

Subjects/Keywords: võlaõigus; õigusrikkumised; vastutus; õigusloome; Eesti; law of obligations; violations of law; liability; legislation; Estonia; One expression of defining objective standard of care is the concept of duty to maintain safety, which is based on a legally binding obligation, in the form of a general clause that affects everyone, to conduct himself or herself in a way so as to not harm the legal rights of others, as protected by law, more than necessary and acceptable in the shared life of people. By summarising different definitions, the duty to maintain safety in tort law means the understanding that the person, who creates a danger or controls a dangerous situation and allows the danger to persist, is required to employ all reasonably necessary and appropriate measures in order to protect other persons and their rights against the realisation of danger. As regards the attempts to avoid risks the general assumptions, which apply irrespective of the specific facts of an individual case, three key criteria are especially relevant: the degree of severity of potential damage, likelihood of damage, and the resources needed to prevent or remove the risk. Although liability based on violations of the duties to maintain safety is an organic part of Estonian tort law, it is still quite vague and hidden due to scarcity of case law. It would therefore be worth considering of setting out legal provisions so as to better perceive the possibility of liability based on such a duties. Bunching together general citeria that compose the objective standard of conduct would help to provide such a ground and relevant regulation contained in Articles 4:102 and 4:103 of the PETL may serve as an example. In addition to the clarification of an objective standard of conduct, the current legal provisions constructing the bases of liability based on the general composition of delict should also be specified from the same perspective. Unlike the methodological teaching modelled in the BGB, in solving cases based on violation of the duty to maintain safety by Estonian law, a presumption of the violation the duty must be applied to keep in accordance with the general rule provided in §1050 (1) of the LOA. The main advantages of this approach are that the burden of proving a negative fact is removed from the injured party and the burden is placed on the party to the procedure in whose internal sphere the facts needing proof are found; simplicity of the court procedure; more reliable evidence; and preventive impact on the violation of the duties to maintain safety.

Subjects/Keywords: ABSTRACT Since the 1970s; local governments in Georgia have been authorized; upon voter approval; to levy a one-percent general-purpose Local Option Sales Tax (LOST); which is earmarked for property tax relief. Using socioeconomic and fiscal data during the period 1975-2002; this dissertation examines the adoption and budgetary effects of the LOST in Georgia counties. The adoption of the LOST is studies with a discrete-time event history analysis. The results suggest that the probability that an eligible county will adopt the LOST is determined by a set of motivations; obstacles; and resources. The motivations are related to the perceived property tax level; the existence of fiscal pressure; and the potential of sales tax exportation. The obstacles are related to existing sales tax rates and the level of tax competition. The resources for overcoming these obstacles are related to the tax mimicking behavior in the process of policy diffusion. Budgetary effects of the LOST are examined with pooled time-series regressions. The results suggest that (1) the rollback of property tax millage rates by the LOST is gradually offset by a faster growth of the rates in the post-LOST period; (2) the LOST proceeds are fungible; as they lead to higher levels of revenue and expenditure in the counties; and (3) the levels of fungibility vary across counties in accordance with their fiscal and socioeconomic conditions. INDEX WORDS: Local option sales tax; Property tax relief; Policy innovation; Policy diffusion; Earmarking; Tax mimicking

Subjects/Keywords: Packaging is an important element responsible for brand growth and one of the main rea-sons for producers to gain competitive advantages through technological innovation. In this re-gard, the aim of this work is to design a fully autonomous electronic system for a smart bottle packaging, being integrated in a European project named ROLL-OUT. The desired application for the smart bottle is to act as a fill-level sensor system in order to determine the liquid content level that exists inside an opaque bottle, so the consumer can exactly know the remaining quantity of the product inside. An in-house amorphous indium–gallium–zinc oxide thin-film transistor (a-IGZO TFT) model, previously developed, was used for circuit designing purposes. This model was based in an artificial neural network (ANN) equivalent circuit approach. Taking into account that only n-type oxide TFTs were used, plenty of electronic building-blocks have been designed: clock generator, non-overlapping phase generator, a capacitance-to-voltage converter and a comparator. As it was demonstrated by electrical simulations, it has been achieved good functionality for each block, having a final system with a power dissipation of 2.3 mW (VDD=10 V) not considering the clock generator. Four printed circuit boards (PCBs) have been also designed in order to help in the testing phase. Mask layouts were already designed and are currently in fabrication, foreseeing a suc-cessful circuit fabrication, and a major step towards the design and integration of complex trans-ducer systems using oxide TFTs technology; Capacitance-to-voltage converter; Comparator; Oxide TFTs circuit integration; Domínio/Área Científica::Engenharia e Tecnologia::Engenharia dos Materiais

Subjects/Keywords: Alat za livenje pod pritiskom, legura aluminijuma, lepljenje livene legure, korozija, habanje, dupleks tretman, topografija površine; Corrosion resistance and soldering tendency of different materials in moltenAl–Si–Cu alloy were studied. Hot-working tool steel, plasma nitrided steel andduplex layers with CrN, TiAlN, TiAlSiN and CrAlN top coatings, which wereproduced to various degree of surface roughness, were covered by the study. An ejection test was employed for investigation of the concerned phenomena. The ejection test was improved in order to increase its accuracy and thereliability of process simulation. Samples were examined in both short andextended periods of contact (5 and 20 min) with liquid casting. Castingsolidification was extended in order to intensify the corrosion effects. Contraryto common findings, it was found that the ejection force of the investigatedmaterials does not depend on their chemical composition. For the coatedsamples, a pronounced dependence of the ejection force on the surfaceroughness was found. The ejection force increases with decrease in surfaceroughness. All investigated coatings are prone to mechanical soldering by Al–Si–Cu alloy. Still, their corrosion resistance substantially exceeds the corrosionresistance of steel and plasma nitrided layer. Longer exposure of coatedsamples to cast alloy induced lower ejection forces, which is a consequenceof coatings oxidation. It was found that the investigated coatings are inert toliquid aluminium. However, the underlying material undergoes oxidation andcorrosion through coating growth defects. The findings concerning the wearmechanisms of protective layers support further development of duplex layersintended for die casting tools protection.

Jedná se o kombinaci symetrických blokových algoritmů elektronické kódové knihy; zajišťující autentizaci a integritu pomocí náhodných klíčů; řetězení šifrovaného textu zajišťující důvěrnost; společně s algoritmem Diffieho-Hellmana nad eliptickými křivkami zajišťující bezpečnou distribuci a výměnu symetrických tajných klíčů. The dissertation thesis focuses on research in the optimisation of telemetry systems in energy from the perspective of information security. The thesis deals with nowadays challenges in information security; its definition as well as its methods. The main focus is on the area; where devices with limited resources such as memory or computational power are used. These devices pose security risks that may affect the entire smart grid infrastructure. Nowadays research challenges terminology and legislative; which is crucial in the defined area; are brought closer. The main part of this thesis is devoted to the research of the author’s own hybrid solution – the hybrid cryptosystem. The solution fulfils all necessary principles of information security – authenticity; confidentiality; integrity and data freshness. An analysis of today’s solutions is provided together with a complex evaluation based on own experimental measurements and available literature sources. Subsequently; a combination of symmetric and asymmetric cryptography algorithms is designed that provides both high efficiency and complexity. It is a combination of the symmetric block cyphers Electronic Code Book; which provides authenticity and integrity by using random keys; Cipher Block Chaining; which provided confidentiality; and the asymmetric algorithm of Diffie-Hellman over Elliptic Curves; which provides key agreement scheme over an unsecured channel. Further; the development and optimisation of the hybrid cryptosystem are brought in light. The proprietary solution of large number representation and modular algebra in a device with limited resources is presented and validated via own experimental measurements. Moreover; the own design is analysed and the two proposed hardware generators (based on efficient methods of quantization error and opposing oscillators) are evaluated and optimised. Additionally; the symmetric part of the cryptosystem is also investigated; where two main solutions are highly optimised. Last but not least; deep research on the cryptography of elliptic curves and the key distribution scheme is presented. Two main curve types are dealt with – over a finite field and over a field of characteristic two. The implementation included more than 50 elliptic curves of different standards. The implementation of the curves of order p = 256 has the highest impact. These curves were not addressed on such devices at the time of solution. Finally; the original research results of possible speed optimisation via using special elliptic curves are introduced. The relationship between curve domain parameters and point computational efficiency is studied. This last part brings also promising results for the field of effective cryptographic algorithm – the lightweight cryptography.

(more)

Subjects/Keywords: Neoliberalism as the current version of capitalism has produced a number of problems, the worsening capitalist tendency to universal commodification where everything is commodified, including education, health, culture and sports. Availing this system the individual interest where social and economic rights are minimized. The basic principles of neoliberalism are: Minimum state participation in the economy of a country, very little government intervention in the labor market, privatization of state, free movement of international capital, emphasis on globalization, opening the economy to the entry of multinationals, adoption measures against economic protectionism and bureaucracy of the state. Whereas education is more than a form of capital investment, neoliberal conception of education that became another of capitalist economic policy model strengthening element implemented in and by countries in socio economic development. In the neoliberal discourse education passes to enter the capitalist market soon working their similarity, leaving just to be part of the social and political sphere, the political content of citizenship has been replaced by consumer rights. Hence the neoliberal view that parents and students are consumers. In general, we see that in recent years through official documents show the presence of neoliberal strategies being implemented in Brazil. Similarly education has been focused on the interests of capital owners. So with this research I analyze the influence that this new capitalist strand has caused the Brazilian basic education.; Dominação; Educação; Impacto; Globalização; Neoliberalism; Domination; Education; Impact; Globalization

The influence exerted by peers can be positive or negative. This research aims to analyses the perception that young people have about the appropriate/inappropriate behaviors and relationships among peers. Sixteen male students of the 9thyear made part of this study, indentified with bad/good behavior. The data collection was made through questionnaires consisted of open questions. The data was evaluated qualitatively and quantitatively. The good and bad behaviors are conceptualized by individual and relational attitudes. The teachers’ perception of the behavior is different from the perception that the young people has of themselves. The majority of the students do not consider themselves as an influence to the peers, and not even the peers as an influence to them. The promotion of peer relationship is seen as through the realization of specific activities. The student group which was identified with bad behavior presents a lower conceptual variety.; Appropriate and inappropriate behaviors; Peers relations; School; Students; Social and personal competence

(more)

Subjects/Keywords: The subject of the dissertation is the Permanent Court of Arbitration; its characteristics and the contribution of its jurisprudence in international public law; because in an international public order; in the framework of peaceful ways of settling disputes; arbitration; as a procedure before the Permanent Court of Arbitration; takes a significant place. The basic goals set during the research are multiple. The primary goal is to show to the international community; as a whole; the importance of the establishment of the Permanent Court of Arbitration at the Hague Peace Conference in 1899; in view of the existence of the possibility that international disputes will be settled by arbitration as a procedure; in order to avoid; at that time; potential international conflicts and wars. The following group of objectives related to the presentation of procedural regulation and modernization of the procedure for conducting proceedings before the Permanent Court of Arbitration; namely: the provisions of the Conventions on the Peaceful Settlement of Disputes of 1899 and 1907; UNCITRAL Arbitration Rules from 1976 and 2010; The Arbitration Rules of the Permanent Court of Arbitration; adopted in 2012 and the provisions of the 1982 Convention on the Law of the Sea; which regulate the arbitration proceedings. A special set of objectives concerned the study of decisions made and the conduct of arbitrators in litigated disputes in terms of applying international legal norms to specific disputable situations that were the subject of the dispute. The scope of the subject of the research requires the use of a dogmatic method; a legal-sociological method; as well as any other legal method whose application will lead to a more comprehensive achievement of the unified objectives of this paper.

(more)

Subjects/Keywords: This doctoral thesis has been focused on the challenge to obtain, using Additive Manufacturing (AM), models for surgical planning, under the premise that the equipment to obtain them should be accessible to the hospital field. The objective is to spread the use of prototypes as a surgical training tool, upgrading medical practice in the same way that technologies which enhanced radiographs at the time. The reason for using AM, instead of more traditional technologies, is its capacity to materialise, in a straight way, the digital data of the patient anatomy coming from three-dimensional scanning systems, making it possible to achieve personalised models. The results are basically the generation of new knowledge in order to create accessible multi-material 3D printing machines that would allow to obtain models mimicking living tissues. Related to the will to spread this technology, research has focused on open source technologies, mainly Fused Filament Fabrication (FFF), and similar technologies based on catalitzable liquids. This research is aligned with the development work related to AM at CIM UPC, and in this special field there is a close cooperation with Hospital Sant Joan de Déu in Barcelona (HSJD). The first section of the thesis includes a description of the state of the art, including the existing technologies and their application within the medical field. For the first time, basis have been laid for the characterisation of living tissues – primarily soft tissues – to support the selection of materials mimicking them in an AM process, so as to improve the surgical planning experience. The stiffness linked to most of the materials commonly used in 3D printing, makes them unhelpful to simulate tumours and other anatomic references. Then, parameters like density, viscoelasticity, soft materials industry characterisation, soft tissues and vessels elastic modulus, its hardness, mimicking blood and sterilisation requirements, are successively treated. The second section starts exploring FFF 3D printing. Processes are classified from the point of view of multi-materiality, a key factor for surgical planning models, telling multi-nozzle solutions from mixing printheads solutions. A study about probable useful materials (both filaments and liquids) to mimic soft tissues is included. It is stated how liquids, compared to filaments, are more demanding related to additive manufacturing processes, and different ways to print very soft materials are detailed. Finally, six real cases – in which the doctorate has participated in these last years –, involving collaboration with HSJD, are reported. In the origin it can be found the difficulty to perform tumour resection surgeries to children, like neuroblastoma type, and the initiative of Dr. Lucas Krauel. Finally, Section 3 is devoted to the exploration of many concepts (up to 8), activity performed along the last five years thanks to the technical resources of CIM UPC and the academic activity of the UPC students, related to their final degree thesis, therefore reaching the construction of several machines and mechanisms to test them. The wide and systematic research about these concepts makes closer the day to reach a desktop 3D printing multimaterial solution. It is found that the best way to progress is having a plurality of independent printheads in order to enable a 3D printer to integrate some of the researched concepts, thus materialising a possible solution. To sum up, it is raised how a 3D printer for surgical training models should be like, for the purpose of serving as a basis for new developments.; Àrees temàtiques de la UPC::Enginyeria mecànica; 617; 620; 68

22. Dale, Jonathan James. Life history, foraging ecology, metabolic rates and bioenergetics of the brown stingray, dasyatis lata.

Ph.D. University of Hawaii at Manoa 2011.

Life history characteristics, diet, nursery habitat use and metabolic rates of brown stingrays, Dasyatis lata, were evaluated to… (more)

Subjects/Keywords: Life history characteristics; diet; nursery habitat use and metabolic rates of brown stingrays; Dasyatis lata; were evaluated to determine their ecological impacts in Kāne'ohe Bay; Oahu; through a bioenergetics model. The maximum age based on analysis of vertebral samples (28 years) was among the oldest for any dasyatid aged to date. Edge and marginal increment analyses; as well as recapture of two stingrays previously marked with oxytetracycline; verified deposition of a single growth band per year. Growth characteristics varied between sexes; with females attaining larger sizes and exhibiting lower growth coefficients. Brown stingray life history characteristics are similar to other elasmobranchs in that they are long lived; grow slowly and mature at a late age. Stomach content; bulk and amino acid stable isotope analyses were used to assess the diet and habitat use of juvenile brown stingrays in Kāne'ohe Bay. A shift in stingray diet and an increase in relative trophic position were apparent with increasing size. Results indicate stingrays foraged within their Kāne'ohe Bay nursery for the majority of their juvenile lives before shifting to offshore habitats with the onset of sexual maturity. Underestimates of trophic position from amino acid analyses suggest that urea retention in elasmobranchs may have important implications for estimates of absolute trophic position determined using this method. Potential prey resources were portioned between stingrays and sympatric juvenile scalloped hammerhead sharks; Sphyrna lewini. Standard metabolic rates were estimated for juvenile brown stingrays through respirometry. Temperature and mass had significant effects on metabolic rates. The energy budget of juvenile stingrays was heavily weighted towards metabolism; which accounted for 68% of total consumed energy. A large metabolic demand coupled with very slow growth indicated potential limitation of food resources. Daily rations estimated from the bioenergetics model declined from a high of 2.72 %BW/d to 1.23 %BW/d with age. Results suggest the potential for strong top-down effects on prey populations due to stingray predation. Use of Kāne'ohe Bay as a nursery habitat for brown stingrays appears to be a trade-off between increased juvenile survival and a late age at first maturity due to slow growth rates.

Subjects/Keywords: The main objective of this study is to assess the impact of small scale irrigation on socioeconomic development of the society in Kemisse Zone, Dewa Cheffa Woreda. The study employed survey method and personal observation to collect socio-economic data. Farming household and key informant were interviewed to collect primary data. In addition, relevant literature and essential documents that was useful for the study were reviewed. The analysis which was conducted amongst the same respondents before introduction of irrigation, allowed for the comparison in order to identify the impact after introduction of irrigation project. Also, the social and economic impact was assessed that used to assess the impact of small scale irrigation in the study area. The result reveals that small scale irrigation have an impact on social and economic well being of households. The skill of farmers after introduction of irrigation was better than that of before introduction of irrigation such as, plowing, threshing, harvesting, use of agronomic practice. All the farm households are worked in their farm on the daily basis, which is a big change as compared to before introduction the schemes. Land use intensity and crop diversification was improved due to irrigation. Land use intensity improved due to increases in acreage of main crop as well as cultivating at both seasons. Crop diversification was also observed as a result of irrigation development in the study area. Almost the entire farm household increased producing multi item and market oriented types of crop two cycles per a year. The study finding highlights that small-scale irrigation for food security enhancement, high yield obtained in irrigation and other benefit such as increased income, employment opportunity, crop diversification, land use intensity, and the like are indication that small-scale irrigation can bring sustainable agriculture and economic development in the study area. But issues related to small size of farm plot, input supply, market situation, reservoir capacity to enrich irrigation water for all user groups, crop water requirement, ways of water distribution for users and infrastructure can affect the sustainability; small-scale irrigation schemes.

Subjects/Keywords: Material in the form of fabrics made of high tenacity fibers are used in antiballistic protection due to their low density; high resistance and high energy absorption capability. In recent times; p-aramid fabrics have had a wide range of applications in the construction of composite structures for the production of the antiballistic body armour protection. Their excellent mechanical properties originate from the long; straight fibers of poly(paraphenylene terephthalamide). The increase of the storage modulus or the stiffness of polymers can be achieved by adding reinforcement. Various parameters of reinforcement are taken into consideration for their selection and their prosperous realisation in composite. Ceramics have usually been used as reinforcement in the body armour owing to its properties; such as introducing flexibility and light weight of the overall protective structure. Ceramics nanosilica is one of the primary reinforcement used in polymer composites. The silica (SiO2) nanoparticles are defined by their high specific surface area. Due to their mutual agglomeration; silane coupling agents modify nanosilica surface for their successful dispersion and deagglomeration; causing the formation of chemical bonds between them and organic components. Carbon nanotubes (CNT) present a perfect choice as reinforcement in polymer composites because of their high aspect ratio (length/diameter ratio; around 132000000); great stiffness; small size and mass; and high conductivity. The surface of the p-aramid multiaxial fabric samples (Twaron and Kolon fabrics) was modified by γ-aminopropyl triethoxysilane (AMEO silane)/ethanol solution. Afterwards; the samples were impregnated with poly(vinyl butyral) (PVB)/ethanol solution with different types and contents of nanoreinforcement due to the improvement of their mechanical; thermal and ballistic properties and the increase of absorbed impact energy; which presented the aim of the research of this doctoral

Treatment for dual diagnosis is best when the treatment of each disorder is integrated into one program. There are various forms of dual diagnosis treatment that were explored. Existing dual diagnosis treatment research will be presented. The purpose of the study is to evaluate an existing dual diagnosis and severe mental illness program that provides integrated mental health and substance abuse treatment. The research design is a pre-experimental one group pretest posttest design (Campbell & Stanley, 1963). Fifty-two people were studied to determine the program effectiveness. The effectiveness of the program was determined by analyzing the data collected on the consumers’ pretest and posttest measures. The measures used in the research were the BASIS-32, MAI, BHS, BDI, and CAR. Subjects in the study had a mean age of 30. There were 18 females and 34 males. Of the participants, 11.3% had schizophrenia, 13.2% had schizoaffective disorder, 7.5% had bipolar, 11.3% had depression, 5.7% had substance abuse, 43.4% had a dual diagnosis with mental illness and substance abuse, and 5.7% had schizotypal personality disorder. The average length of stay for the consumers was 4 months of treatment. All clients were prescribed medications at discharge with the exception of one client. The results of the study indicate that the BASIS-32 showed statistically significant improvement in results for subjects from pretest to posttest. All other inventories yielded changes that were not statistically significant. Treating dually diagnosed clients in an integrated treatment center is imperative to decrease duplication of services, mixed messages, and exacerbation of problems. In this study, the dual diagnosis program was seen to have some efficacy in treatment. Limitations of the study include a low N, which affects the power of the study to determine statistically significant changes in client inventory scores from pretest to posttest. Other limitations include no comparison group nor any control group. Despite the limitations, the study demonstrates that people improve while in dual diagnosis treatment, even those clients with a single diagnosis.","Kevin DeWeaver","Kevin DeWeaver; Patricia Reeves; Edwin Risler",PhD,Sociology,"Social Work",arnold_tara_g_200305_phd,http://purl.galileo.usg.edu/uga_etd/arnold_tara_g_200305_phd,eng,uga,public,"Dual diagnosis; Treatment; SMI; Research; Substance Abuse; BASIS-32; MAI; BHS; CAR; BDI-II.",,"Evaluation of an innovative dual diagnosis program : Skyland Trail's Operation Prevention (STOP).",Dissertation +,10724/20051,"Aten, Nancy Marie",2003-05,"Ecological landscape rehabilitation is explored in cities, especially the significance of scale, and the sense of place that is encouraged through the use of an indigenous vegetation model. The natural landscape and natural processes in cities have been modified beyond recognition, simplified, and obscured; however, the dependence of people on those processes and resources remains in a critical, tenuous, and not completely understood balance. In process-based ecological restoration, considerations of scale are related to ecosystem spatial characteristics and potential connectivity of restored patches. In cities, with unbuilt ground in very small fragments, the idea of a whole ecological landscape integrated with dense human population encourages consideration of larger scale rehabilitation. On Palawan Island, Philippines, the linkages between meso-level environmental Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) and local fisherfolk are the primary foundation for social justice, food security, and the empowerment of local peoples through community-based coastal resources management (CBCRM). This suggests that these linkages are the basis for CBCRM, which focuses more on social justice, and less on scientific, technocratic, or preservationist approaches to resource management. Since the People Power movement and the new Philippine Constitution of 1987 the democratic space in the Philippines became especially conducive to communitybased resource management. My research is significant because it fills several gaps in the literature on environmentalism. First, the relationship between meso-level NGOs and local communities is rarely addressed in analyses of environmental movements, which are usually focused primarily on either transnational discourses or local case studies. Second, most contemporary environmental movements have focused more on the conservation of nature, and not on social justice and the empowerment of local peoples. Third, there is a dearth of literature on coastal environmentalism. Palawan in particular has received international attention for its high biological diversity and is host to a growing number of coastal environmental programs. Recently, environmentalism has begun to emphasize the conservation and regeneration of the world’s oceans and coastal zones. Utilizing tools and perspectives from cultural anthropology and other disciplines, this research analyzes the linkages between NGOs and local peoples. Unlike projections made by early critiques of NGOs, many Palawan environmental advocacy NGOs started as volunteer organizations, and with the infusion of donor funding have not “sold out” advocacy to become project mangers. On Palawan, hybrid NGOs have maintained advocacy positions and activities while taking on project management roles. The research suggests that fisherfolk become empowered through relationships with and information learned from NGOs along with government agencies, and will likely maintain those relationships for effective resource management as opposed to an ideal held by NGO environmentalists for autonomous self-determination.","J. Intramaze cues were provided at the distal end of each arm by placing a small object in front of the food trough; unique objects were randomly sampled from a large pool of objects. The use of extramaze and intramaze cues was assessed by rotating the objects, after the retention interval, on occasional non-rewarded probes, thereby dissociating the location of extramaze and intramaze cues. Most of the debate surrounding transcendental arguments has centered on their failure to accomplish what their advocates intend them to accomplish. They are typically called upon to settle decisively the philosophical difficulties they address by establishing necessary metaphysical claims through a consideration of the conditions of the possibility of epistemological premises. That is, transcendental arguments make a claim about reality, what is actually the case, based upon appearance, what is believed to be the case or how things seem. In Chapters One and Two, I will give an account of the chief characteristics and structure of transcendental arguments and provide several canonical exemplars, which will exhibit not only different manifestations that transcendental arguments can take but also the issues they have been used to address. The most common criticism of transcendental arguments is that they are not able to span the justificatory gap between appearance and reality or to accomplish the seemingly impossible task of moving from mind to world. In Chapter Three, I will consider criticisms of transcendental arguments, focusing on the most common criticism given by Barry Stroud. In light of Stroud’s trenchant criticism, recent work reveals an optimistic undertone by some philosophers who would promote a more moderate use of transcendental arguments. Rather than establish necessary claims about reality, transcendental arguments reveal necessary epistemological connections. I will argue that although these moderate versions are indeed legitimate as transcendental arguments, there is no need to discard the more ambitious version. Through the work of John McDowell, I will show how Stroud’s criticism can be overcome, thereby removing the incentive to endorse moderate versions as substitutes for ambitious versions and placing renewed confidence in transcendental argumentation. In Chapter Three, I will present and offer a critique of these moderate versions. In Chapters Four, Five, and Six, I will consider McDowell’s work in my defense of transcendental arguments against the criticisms previously noted.","O. Bradley Bassler","O. The study seeks to add to our understanding of the effect that internal organizational characteristics and external environmental factors can have on an organization’s choice to become involved in the policy process through the courts. The study uses a three-part analysis to understand the court-based advocacy of these groups, using three research questions for the study: (1) Over a period of ten years, what factors affect the choice of charitable nonprofit advocacy groups to participate in the courts? (2) What factors explain the annual frequency of the court-based advocacy of charitable nonprofit advocacy groups? (3) Of the charitable nonprofit advocacy groups that choose to participate in the courts, what factors affect the legal strategy choices they make on individual cases? To examine these questions, I collected court involvement data and organizational characteristic data on all charities in the United States that claimed to be involved in advocacy activities and whose annual income exceeded approximately three million dollars. The study finds that when considered from a cumulative perspective, over a period of ten years, internal organizational characteristics, including the presence of dues-paying members, are important in explaining the differences between charities that chose to advocate in court in the 1990s and those that did not. However, when considering court-based advocacy from an annual or case-level perspective, external environmental factors, including the regulatory and political environments, have a greater influence on charities.","Susan Haire; Scott Ainsworth","Susan Haire; Scott Ainsworth; Audrey Haynes; Jeff Brudney; Stefanie Lindquist; Hal Rainey",PhD,"Political Science","Political Science",basinger_nancy_w_200305_phd,http://purl.galileo.usg.edu/uga_etd/basinger_nancy_w_200305_phd,eng,uga,public,"Nonprofit Advocacy; Interest Groups in Court; Charities and Public Policy",,"Charities in court : the advocacy efforts of charitable nonprofit organizations in the judicial venue - when? how? and how much?",Dissertation +,10724/20051,"Bates, Benjamin Roswell",2003-05,"The Arab-Israeli conflict has long been presented as eternal and irresolvable. Four theoretical concepts (the archive, institutional intent, peripheral text, and center text) are articulated. British Colonial Office archives, London Times coverage, and British Parliamentary debates are used to interpret four publicly presented rhetorical acts. In 1915-7, Britain issued the Balfour Declaration and the McMahon-Hussein correspondence. Although these documents are treated as promises in the standard narrative, they are ambiguous declarations. As ambiguous documents, these texts offer opportunities for constitutive readings as well as limiting interpretations. In 1922, the Mandate for Palestine was issued to correct this vagueness. Rather than treating the Mandate as a response to the debate between realist foreign policy and self-determination, Winston Churchill used epideictic rhetoric to foreclose a policy discussion in favor of a vote on Britain's honour. As such, the Mandate did not account for Wilsonian drives in the post-War international sphere. After Arab riots and boycotts highlighted this problem, a commission was appointed to investigate new policy approaches. In the White Paper of 1939, a rhetoric of investigation limited Britain's consideration of possible policies. By extending investigation to the limits of kairos, advocates of partition formulated policy without discussing other potential solutions. At the expiration of the White Paper, Britain withdrew from Palestine. As such, in 1947, the United Nations issued Resolution 181 to divide Palestine into two states. United Nations action was possible only because Britain articulated a rhetoric of failure and an end to Empire. None of these four policies was a panacea; each may have enhanced the problem of Palestine. In the conclusion, lessons from Britain's experience are applied to the current American approach to Palestine. Centering George W. Bush's Rose Garden Speech, and drawing on the Mitchell Commission Report and the Tenet Plan, indicates that consideration of ambiguity, epideictic rhetoric, rhetorics of investigation, and rhetorics of failure should be made when evaluating peace proposals.","Celeste Condit","Celeste Condit; Thomas Lessl; John Murphy; Kevin DeLuca; Loch Johnson",PhD,"Speech Communication","Speech Communication",bates_benjamin_r_200305_phd,http://purl.galileo.usg.edu/uga_etd/bates_benjamin_r_200305_phd,eng,uga,public,"Rhetorical history; Palestine; British Empire; Middle East; Late colonial period; Interwar decolonization",,"A rhetorical history of the British Consitution of Israel, 1917-1948",Dissertation +,10724/20051,"Baugher, Eric Brandon",2003-05,"Conventional historic preservation of military artifacts and sites is typically limited to presenting technological context and/or official military history. Based heavily on Astin’s theory of involvement (1984) and numerous national reports addressing educational excellence, this study examines students’ intensity of involvement and organization expectations as two variables influencing perceived learning in the co-curriculum. A total of 437 sophomores, juniors, and seniors completed an 87- item survey primarily using Likert scales to gather information in three areas: (a) the amount of physical and psychological energy exerted by students on the organization, (b) students’ perceptions of skills and competencies gained due to group membership, and (c) students’ perceptions of organization expectations. Data were analyzed using Pearson’s correlations, regression, one-way ANOVA, and t-tests. Results indicated statistically significant correlations between intensity of involvement and perceived learning, as well as expectations and perceived learning. Regression questions yielded no statistically significant findings, indicating that perceived learning could not be predicted by expectations and involvement variables when combined, nor could intensity of involvement be predicted by expectation and intensity of involvement variables when combined. T-tests run on all variables suggested that three expectation variables – high expectations, consistent and clear feedback, and joined the organization expecting to learn were most important when explaining students’ perceived learning in the co-curriculum. ANOVA tests revealed that presidents and vice presidents of organizations perceived higher levels of learning than did other students in the organization, yet student expectations for learning did not vary based on position in the organization. Implications of research findings were discussed and recommendations for future practice were made, including suggestions such as continued study of non-formal modes as they relate to the co-curriculum, the use of curriculum development models normally used by faculty to develop curricular plans in the co-curriculum, implementation of policies and practices that promote increased student invo lvement, further exploration of the practices of student organization advisors, improved training for student organization advisors, and continued investigation into how the prevalence of hierarchical structures among student organizations impacts learning in the co-curriculum.","Diane L. This performance limitation is a signifi- cant obstacle preventing the scientific community from adopting compiler-enforced array bounds checks. To reduce the overhead, we have created an abstraction that called Index Confinement Regions (ICRs). The basic idea is to place an array into a very large virtual memory region, such that any reference to the array is confined to the region. Only the portion of the ICR corresponding to the array is permissible to access. ICRs reduce the number of necessary bounds checks for n-dimensional array access from 2n to 1 for C, and from n to 0 for Java, yielding a significant reduction in execution time for array-intensive applications.","David K. To learn more about the consequences of jealousy expression, this project proposes and tests four potential cognitive and emotional reactions to another’s jealousy expression. Specifically, general partner uncertainty, relational uncertainty, jealousy-related emotion, and rumination are predicted to arise when one’s close relational partner expresses jealousy. These reactions are examined in relation to relational context (i.e., dating partnership, sibling relationship, and cross-sex friendship) and jealousy expression type (i.e., integrative communication, distributive communication, and negative affect expression). Uncertainty findings revealed that cross-sex friends were more uncertain about the partner and the relationship than either siblings or daters after another expresses jealousy. Siblings experienced greater relational uncertainty than did dating partners when reacting to another’s jealousy expression. In addition, another’s use of negative affect expression was related to greater partner and relational uncertainty compared with another’s use of integrative communication. For jealousy-related emotion, siblings and dating partners experienced stronger jealousy-related emotion compared with cross-sex friends, though jealousyrelated emotion levels did not differ according to jealousy expression type. In terms of rumination, when one’s partner used distributive communication or negative affect expression to communicate jealousy, that individual ruminated more than if integrative communication was used. Rumination levels did not differ according to relational context. In addition, a reaction model of jealousy is presented that specifies the order in which these reactions occur after one’s close partner expresses jealousy. After one’s partner expresses jealousy, that individual first experiences general partner uncertainty, followed by relational uncertainty. Next, the individual ruminates about the jealousy expression and then finally experiences jealousy-related emotion. These results broaden jealousy expression research to include consequences of jealousy expression.","Jerold Hale","Jerold Hale; Kenzie Cameron; Jennifer Monahan; Michael Kernis; Tina Harris",PhD,"Speech Communication","Speech Communication",bevan_jennifer_l_200305_phd,http://purl.galileo.usg.edu/uga_etd/bevan_jennifer_l_200305_phd,eng,uga,public,"Jealousy expression; General partner uncertainty; Relational uncertainty; Jealousy emotion; Rumination; Sibling relationships; Cross-sex friendships; Dating relationships",,"Intrapersonal consequences of another's jealousy expression : toward a reaction model of jealousy in close relationships",Dissertation +,10724/20051,"Boehmer, Beatrice ",2003-05,"We analyze allocations to institutional and retail investors in 441 initial public offerings (IPOs) and test whether institutions obtain IPOs with superior long-run performance. In contrast to previous research, we find no significant relationship between institutional or retail flipping and returns. Both results lend strong support to bookbuilding theories. In this study, the effects of tillage and earthworm activity on SOM and carbon (C) protection were investigated. In the first experiment, the objective was to study the mechanisms by which C is protected under no-tillage (NT) management, using 14C-labeled plant residue. Aggregate-size distribution, total C, and 14C were measured together with different pools of aggregate-associated C and 14C from 21-d laboratory incubations of intact and crushed macro-and microaggregates. The results indicated that (i) more young C (14C) is accumulated in the subsurface soil of conventional tillage (CT) than NT, but this C is not stabilized in the long term, and (ii) short- and long-term stabilization of C is higher in the soil surface layers under NT compared with CT. This C stabilization occurs mainly at the microaggregate level. The objectives of the next set of experiments were to investigate the effects of different earthworm species (Aporrotedea caliginosa and Lumbricus rubellus) on aggregation, aggregate-associated C pools and the formation of stable microaggregates within macroaggregates. Two incubations were set up. The first incubation consisted of soil samples crushed <; 250 µm to break up all macroaggregates with three treatments: (i) control soil; (ii) soil + 13C-labeled residue; and (iii) soil + 13C-labeled residue + earthworms. After 20 days, aggregate size distribution was measured and microaggregates (53-250 µm) were isolated out of the formed macroaggregates (>; 250 µm). A second incubation was conducted to determine protected versus unprotected total C and 13C from 21-day laboratory incubations of intact and crushed macro- and microaggregates. The results indicated that microaggregates are rapidly formed within earthworm casts and showed the direct involvement of earthworms in inducing an important protection of soil C at the microaggregate level. The results also suggested that important interactions between earthworm species take place affecting the incorporation of fresh residue-derived C and the formation of stable microaggregates when fresh residue was placed on the surface.","Paul F. Subjects/Keywords: The purpose of this master thesis is to present a comparison between the factors that affects an environmental investment. This is done through applying a theoretical framework on the factors affecting a company’s existing appraisal model for environmental investments. The company that was a part of this thesis asked at an initial stage for confidentiality; therefore it is called the Company in this thesis. The Company that contributes with the appraisal model is a multination-al group with operations in many different industries; but with a focus on the Nordic countries and products that may be linked to the agricultural sector. The theoretical framework has its base in the concepts of value and investments and their connection to the environment and the envi-ronmental investment. The identified factors in the theoretical framework are:; Investeringsbedömning; miljöinvesteringar; påverkande faktorer; miljö; investering
