▼ In recent years, the global nuclear industry has placed a greater emphasis on passively safe reactor designs. In particular, much attention and design work has been applied to engineered systems for passive cooling of nuclear fuel, whether it be loaded in a core or stored in spent fuel pools. The most common nuclear fuel geometry takes the shape of vertically oriented cylindrical rods. Given the emphasis on passive cooling and the prevalence of cylindrical nuclear fuel, one would anticipate a rather full and developed body of knowledge regarding natural convection heat transfer phenomena from vertical cylinders. However, the current body of knowledge centered on this topic is lacking a comprehensive understanding of several key phenomena that would facilitate more accurate modeling and design of passive heat exchange systems of this geometry. These phenomena include the relationship between heat transfer rate and cylinder diameter in both the laminar and turbulent regimes, as well as the relationship between boundary layer regime transition and diameter. Given that turbulent heat transfer rates are nearly an order of magnitude greater than the laminar regime, characterizing and being able to predict regime transition is essential to understanding heat transfer from a heated cylinder as a whole. The importance of this point is further underscored by considering how, due to the disparity in heat transfer rate between regimes, the cylinder temperature at the location just prior to transition may be the highest of the whole cylinder – directly feeding into the thermal design limits of the reactor fuel. One of the many difficulties in empirically deriving a heat transfer correlation is determining the bounds of the correlation. With respect to natural convection heat transfer from vertical cylinders, there are several interdependent phenomena that need to be considered simultaneously. The current experimental study addresses these phenomena using five heated cylinders with a range of diameters. Data from these heated cylinders is obtained through a combination of thermocouples, distributed temperature sensors, and particle image velocimetry. The results of this study are dimensionless, diameter-dependent, natural convection heat transfer correlations for the laminar, transition, and turbulent regimes. Additionally, the dimensionless bounds of applicability for these correlations (the regime transition points) as a function of diameter have also been experimentally determined using boundary layer theory and empirical data. O Gás Natural é uma fonte de energia que tem vindo a ganhar expressão a nível mundial. É mais limpa e barata que os seus principais concorrentes. Apesar de o desenvolvimento de toda a estrutura que permite a sua distribuição ser relativamente recente o gás Natural é uma fonte de energia do agora e ainda mais do futuro. Uma unidade autónoma de gás natural liquefeito (UAGNL ou UAG) de uso privativo permite a chegada desta fonte de energia a consumidores localizados em regiões que não têm a possibilidade de acesso à rede de distribuição nacional de Gás Natural. Para a compreensão do processo de implementação de uma micro-UAG foram desenvolvidos seis capítulos: Enquadramento geral da fonte de energia, Sistema Nacional de Gás Natural, Projeto de Implantação e Funcionamento de uma UAG, Estudo do Mercado de Gás Natural, Viabilidade económica do Projeto de Empresa. Numa fase inicial procura-se contextualizar o tema a nível mais global com a análise da fonte de energia que é o gás natural assim como a sua história. No segundo capítulo são abordados todos os segmentos do sistema nacional de gás natural em Portugal que permitem a entrega da energia nas nossas casas. De seguida são descritos todos os componente técnicos necessários ao correto funcionamento de uma UAG, assim como o seu princípio de funcionamento e regras de implantação, com referências às respetivas normas a que toda a instalação esta subjugada. No quarto capítulo é desenvolvido uma pesquisa a nível do mercado do gás natural em Portugal atual assim como do potencial mercado para um cliente com uma micro-UAG privativa através do estudo do mercado existente para o GPL. Na fase final o trabalho é concluído com o estudo da viabilidade económica de um projeto de empresa que fornece o gás natural através da implementação de micro-UAG’s para diversas capacidades de armazenagem.

Natural Gas is an energy source that is gaining expression on the world energy scenario. Is cleaner and cheaper than their mainly competitors. Although the development of all the structure that allows his delivery been relatively recent, the natural gas is energy source of the present and future. A private Liquefied Natural Gas Satellite Plant (LNGSP) allows this energy source arrive to consumers located in regions that aren’t supplied for the natural gas national distribution net. For the understanding of the implementation process for a micro-LNGSP were developed six chapters: Global context of the energy source, national natural gas system, LNGSP Implementation Project and Operation, Natural Gas Market Study, Economic viability of the Enterprise Project. ▼ Teaching and learning Natural Science for conceptual understanding requires appropriate and effective teaching approaches and inquiry-based learning activities. The problem of teaching and learning Natural Science for deeper understanding is global and Namibia is not an exception. The Ministry of Education, Arts and Culture’s reports on the National Standardised Achievement Tests (SATs) results of Grade 7 Natural Science showed that learners scored under basic achievement category over the past years. These poor SATs results might affect learners’ academic achievements and attitude towards science subjects. It is therefore a concern that many teachers seem to teach Natural Science excluding authentic learning activities in their teachings. Therefore, this study investigated the effects of authentic learning activities on achievements and attitude towards Natural Science among Grade 7 learners in Khomas and Omusati educational regions. The study was a mixed research approach which used a case study and quasi-experimental designs. Data were analysed using SPSS and thematic data analysis. Eight schools and 221 learners participated. Schools and learners were randomly selected and assigned into experimental and control groups. The experimental group had 124 learners and 97 were in the control group. Experimental groups received authentic learning activities and control groups received traditional lectures. The pre-test and post-test were used. The experimental group’s mean scores on the pre-test and post-test were 18.91 and 31.72 respectively, while the control group had 17.28 and 23.07. This indicated a significant difference in the performance of the experimental group at 0.05 significant level and proved that authentic learning activities improve learners’ achievements in Natural Science. The STAQ-R was given to learners in the experimental group to establish whether authentic learning activities influence their attitude towards Natural Science. Respondents indicated that the self-directed effort factor among others, attracted them to Natural Science and positively influenced their attitude towards the subject. Focus-group interviews with 22 learners from the experimental group were randomly selected to gauge their views on authentic learning activities. Learners appreciated the use of authentic learning activities as the activities helped them to understand concepts of science better and they could easily remember what was taught. Based on these findings, the usage of authentic learning activities in schools to enhance learners’ conceptual understanding, improve learners’ achievements, and positively influence learners’ attitude towards the subject should be advocated. Nonetheless, the study developed the CPSR domain model for the teaching and learning of Natural Science using authentic learning activities in classrooms to prepare learners for the 21st century. Much of the ecological degradation, high urban density and hazard vulnerability in the world are found in coastal regions and islands, including the State of Hawaiʻi and Pacific Islands. Many of these areas are vulnerable to hazard events and climate change impacts, for which engineering solutions and infrastructure measures are not always feasible and may cause further damage to the environment. Issues of poverty and wealth inequalities, poor natural resource management, and human rights abuses further exacerbate physical, social and ecological vulnerabilities to disasters. Moving away from the antiquated reactionary relief model, a movement is underway to engage in disaster resilience, an interdisciplinary approach of proactive prevention, preparation, risk reduction and adaptation. Due to extreme geographic remoteness and high risk to multiple hazards, emergency managers, communities and resource managers in Hawaiʻi and the Pacific must develop long-term resilience-building strategies that increase environmental stewardship, social well-being, and food and water security, particularly in the face of potential impacts from climate change. The dissertation employed a community-based participatory research and learning approach to address these issues, collaborating with community and multi-sector stakeholders to build capacity for development of place-based, ecologically sound and socially appropriate integrated disaster resilience plans. The research addressed critical theoretical and practical gaps by utilizing mixed quantitative and qualitative approaches and diverse tools. Adaptable community-based socio-ecological resilience frameworks promoted better linkages between socio-ecological systems, disaster preparedness, relief, recovery and sustainable development, and facilitated social learning and institutionalized resilience planning mechanisms to generate innovative solutions to the complex issues of climate change, socio-ecological vulnerability reduction and sustainable development.

Background: In 2010, more than 200,000,000 people were negatively affected by natural disasters (CRED, 2009). That number is increasing as population densities continue to grow in coastal and other vulnerable areas (Hays et al., 2001). The top-down approach typically employs external evaluation and assessment teams and applies a universal preparedness plan and externally produced, high-value technology, which fails to take into consideration the specific needs, resources, and capacities of vulnerable communities (Wisner, 2004; Mercer, 2008; Burton, 1993). This dissertation study will examine the utilization of Community-based Participatory Research (CBPR) in interventions aimed at helping communities plan for and minimize the impact of natural disasters on their communities. Method: This dissertation study employed three different methods. A systematic literature review was conducted employing the PRISMA protocol. PhotoVoice, a qualitative research method, was utilized with a community in Hawaii to complete the vulnerability, capability, and gap analysis and to develop disaster reduction strategies. A one-group, pre-post-survey design was used to assess changes in participants self-rated perceptions following the development and implementation of the community disaster training and exercise program. Results: The literature review identified 14 CBPR interventional studies related to natural disasters that operationalized all nine CBPR principles to a degree. The principle of sustainability was least operationalized. Through PhotoVoice, the community identified 42 vulnerabilities and 50 capabilities, sorted into 17 themes. Thirteen gaps were then identified, which yielded 16 feasible strategies to reduce the community's vulnerabilities. The community helped develop and lead a training and exercise related to tsunami preparedness, as well as evaluation tools. A bootstrap pair sample analysis on the pre and post-survey demonstrated significant increases in the mean in all skill areas (p<.05). The majority of participants agreed that CBPR principles were reflected in the training and exercise program. In addition, the community was successful in developing a contextually appropriate tsunami evacuation plan. Conclusion: Applying CBPR principles to disaster preparedness research was effective at increasing community capacity, system development, and commitment to sustainability.

▼ The Bouteloua curtipendula (Michx.) Torr. complex (BCC) is composed of 11 species and five varieties distributed in North and South America with its center of diversity in Mexico. It is characterized by tremendous morphological variation and taxonomic complexity that is most likely due to reticulate evolution, phenotypic plasticity, and the development of asexual reproduction (apomixis). Climate-induced range changes over evolutionary time may explain the origin of the morphologically diverse BCC as suites of species came into contact over time, hybridized, and created new species, cytotypes, and reproductive modes. I investigated the origins of the BCC by creating habitat suitability models based on present-day occurrence records for eight BCC taxa and hindcast these models to paleoclimate reconstructions for the Last Glacial Maximum and Last Interglacial. By estimating range dynamics over time, coupled with phylogenetic data, I inferred the locations of contact zones among taxa and identified likely progenitor taxa for various cytotypes found in the BCC. Species with large and environmentally heterogeneous distributions may have large ranges due to plastic responses to environmental variation for adaptive traits or they may maintain differently adapted ecotypes to specific habitats. I evaluated phenotypic plasticity for stolon and rhizome production in the three taxonomic varieties of B. curtipendula. My results indicate that expression of these traits is correlated with specific, local environmental conditions and not to broadly defined environments in geographic space and that phenotypic plasticity accounts for a greater proportion of trait expression than does total genetic variance. Apomixis, asexual reproduction via seed, most likely results from interploidy hybridization. There are many possible pathways that lead to asexual seed formation and understanding these pathways is important to understanding genetic diversity, demography, and evolutionary potential in apomictic and mixed apomictic-sexual populations. I discovered that B. curtipendula var. caespitosa, the only recognized apomictic taxon in the BCC, is pseudogamous, indicating that although fertilization is unnecessary to produce the embryo, it is necessary to produce the endosperm. These data also indicate that meiosis is highly irregular and results in sperm nuclei with variable chromosome numbers, which affects endosperm production, fertility and demographics in apomictic B. curtipendula. A maioria das aplicações tecnológicas das borrachas exige cargas de reforço. O reforço alcançado depende em muito do grau de dispersão da carga na matriz, o que por sua vez depende da interação carga-matriz, e, consequentemente, da natureza da química do elastômero e da carga. Além do negro de fumo e da sílica, materiais já consagrados como cargas de reforço de borrachas, outras nanopartículas funcionalizadas têm sido o centro das atenções. Na última década, o uso de argilas como reforço em borrachas vem sendo estudado intensamente. Dada a sua característica lamelar, uma boa dispersão e esfoliação das placas da argila na matriz, resulta em excelentes propriedades, mesmo em baixos teores. No entanto, para muitas aplicações tecnológicas de elastômeros, se exige teores mais elevados de cargas, e neste particular o desafio de incorporar e dispersar a argila, altamente polar em uma matriz apolar tem sido um desafio. Neste contexto, este trabalho avaliou a possibilidade e a potencialidade de incorporar-se diferentes teores da argila montmorilonita, MMT, e da mesma modificada organicamente, OMMT, em matriz de borracha natural epoxidada (ENR15, ENR20, ENR50 e mistura de NR/ENR50 na proporção de 60/40). Nas matrizes de ENR15 e ENR20 a argila foi incorporada em emulsão e nas demais composições e em uma câmara de misturas acoplada a um reômetro de torque do tipo Haake. As propriedades reométricas, morfológicas, térmicas, mecânicas e viscoelásticas foram avaliadas através de reometria de disco oscilatório (ODR), difração de raios-X (DRX), microscopia eletrônica de varredura (MEV), calorimetria exploratória diferencial (DSC), análise termogravimétrica (TGA), ensaios de resistência à tração e análise dinâmico mecânica (DMA). A adição de MMT ou OMMT nas matrizes resultou em um aumento na distância interplanar da argila, indicando a formação de estruturas intercaladas. As imagens de MEV apresentam uma boa dispersão da carga na matriz. De uma maneira geral, houve melhora nas propriedades mecânicas com a adição de argila, para todas as amostras, com determinadas composições alcançando 250% de acréscimo. Observou-se, também, que a presença da argila afeta a eficiência da vulcanização, diminuindo a densidade de reticulação com o aumento no teor de argila. Os resultados deste trabalho apontam para a dificuldade se incorporar teores maiores (de 10 a 40 phr) de MMT em matriz de NR e/ou em matriz de ENR e ao contrário do que esperado, as diferentes metodologias aqui empregadas como a incorporação em emulsão e em câmara de mistura pouco influenciaram as propriedades finais dos vulcanizados. O uso da OMMT influenciou mais no grau de dispersão e da interação carga- matriz do que o grau de epoxidação da NR.

Esta Dissertação de Mestrado realiza uma aplicação do método de Processo de Hierarquia Analítica (Analytical Hierarchy Process AHP) na análise de decisão da adoção de geração própria em pequena escala de energia elétrica com base no Gás Natural. É realizada uma modelagem de critérios e alternativas e aplicado um questionário baseado no método AHP a proprietários de postos de gasolina. As alternativas consideradas foram a manutenção do estado atual com energia elétrica da distribuidora e a geração em pequena escala baseada no gás natural. Os critérios utilizados foram Custo do Investimento, Custo Final da Energia, Custo Operacional, Benefícios Ambientais, Risco de Variação de Custos. O estudo foi realizado na cidade de Natal, RN em postos que dispõem do gás natural para revenda, onde a alternativa de geração com base no gás disponível está presente. Os principais resultados evidenciam em uma dimensão a viabilidade de uso do método AHP com questionário mediante validação dos julgamentos com análise de variância além dos mecanismos normais de análise de consistência próprios ao método, e em outra a contribuição da abordagem de análise multicritério para tornar mais claro os julgamentos. Os principais resultados da análise ajudam a mostrar que nesse caso o perfil de modelos de critérios e julgamentos dos atores é semelhante, com a evidência final de que há dominância da manutenção da energia da distribuidora. A modeling of criterias and alternatives is through and applied a questionnaire based on method AHP to proprietors of gas stations. The considered alternatives had been the maintenance of the current state with electric energy of the deliverer and the generation in small scale based on the natural gas. The used criteria had been Cost of the Investment, Final Cost of the Energy, Operational cost, Ambient Benefits, Risk and Variation of Costs. The study it was carried through in the city of Natal, RN in ranks that make use of the natural as for resale, where the generation alternative on the basis of the available gas is present. The main results evidence in a dimension the viability of use of method AHP with questionnaire by means of validation of the judgments with analysis of variance beyond proper the normal mechanisms of analysis of consistency to the method. The main results of the analysis help to show that in this in case that the profile of models of criteria and judgments of the actors is similar, with the final evidence of that it has a dominance of the maintenance of the energy of the deliverer. A tarefa de regular um mercado estruturado sob a forma de monopólio natural, como no caso da distribuição de gás canalizado no Brasil, implica assegurar o equilíbrio econômicofinanceiro das firmas reguladas, garantindo, ao mesmo tempo, modicidade tarifária e nível de excelência na qualidade dos serviços prestados. Para isso, a questão da formação de preços é crítica, pois envolve aspectos do excedente e sua distribuição. Por esta razão, dentre as atribuições do órgão regulador, destaca-se o estabelecimento de regras tarifárias que conciliem os interesses dos consumidores e da empresa regulada. Entretanto, a tarefa de desenhar tarifas justas é afetada pela assimetria de informações entre o órgão regulador e a firma regulada, em favor da última. Este trabalho sugere a incorporação da metodologia do Economic Value Added EVA® no processo de revisão tarifária. Tal incorporação, conforme demonstrado, permite ao regulador avaliar a geração de valor do setor e reduzir a assimetria informacional entre concessionárias e agência reguladora. Além disso, facilita o repasse de eventuais excessos de geração de valor aos consumidores, em benefício da sociedade. Regulating a structured market under natural monopoly such as the Brazilian pipeline gas distribution implies in assuring an economic and financial equilibrium of the regulated firms as well as guaranteeing the tariff moderateness and service quality excellence. In order to achieve this pricing is crucial, for it encompasses surplus and surplus distribution. Therefore, the role of setting tariff rules of the regulator agency, stands out so that these rules conciliate the interests of both consumers and the regulated companies. However, outlining fair tariffs is impacted by asymmetrical information between regulator agency and regulated firms in favor of the latter. This study suggests incorporating the Economic Value Added methodology in tariff revision process. This incorporation allows the regulator to evaluate the value generation in the sector and to reduce asymmetrical information between companies regulated and the regulator. In addition to this, it makes it easier to allocate the possible value generation surplus to the consumers in favor of the society. ▼ Abstract: There are several attempts to understand and describe nature, and Natural Computing is founded on the principle that natural systems are information processors, in the sense that they perform computation. This thesis makes use of Natural Computing mechanisms for the understanding of the computation taking place in a specific natural system: the ecosystems. The first step is based on the science of Biogeography, devoted to the study of ecosystems and their emerging patterns. In Biogeography, it is possible to identify elements, relations among them, and processes. The main contribution of this thesis resides in the computational formalization of Biogeography, thus establishing the research area of Biogeographic Computation. The proposal of Biogeographic Computation is introduced in several fronts. The first front promotes the metamodel formalism, which defines a conceptual framework focused on contextualizing the existence of artificial ecosystems and their spatio-temporal processes. After that, aiming at illustrating the application of the metamodel, definitions of ecosystems computing in phenotypic adaptive surfaces is proposed. These definitions proceed to a set of relations and processes directly applicable to the proposition of artificial ecosystems. These artificial ecosystems promote the understanding of natural ecosystems dynamics and patterns, and can also contribute to the resolution of computable problems. At the final stage of the thesis, it is presented an adaptive radiation algorithm exhibiting patterns which are similar to the ones found in real ecosystems, and also proving to be competitive for multimodal optimization in continuous spaces. We examined an extract of Hass avocado (Persea americana) seeds crushed in water as a potential source of natural orange colorants. The extract color is pH dependent, and can produce a range of colors from pale yellow near pH 2.5 to deep red and brown colors near pH 10. Treating the extract under alkaline conditions to pH 12.32 shifts the extract’s color range towards the red end of the visible light spectrum. After treatment with alkali, the extract can produce rich orange colors even at low pH values near 2.5, while the native extract produces only pale yellow in this range. A polyphenol oxidase (PPO) catalyzed reaction produced the most abundant pigment in this extract, 2-(4-hydroxy-8-(2-((5-hydroxy-2-oxo-2,6,7,7a-tetrahydrobenzofuran-6-yl)oxy)ethyl)-5-oxo-6-((3,4,5,6-tetrahydroxytetrahydro-2H-pyran-2-yl)methoxy)-5H-benzo[7]annulen-3-yl)acetic acid, or perseoranjin, which is a novel glycosylated benzotropolone compound with carboxylic acid and fused-ring butenolide containing side chains. Though the color is stable at room temperature, liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry (LC-MS) indicates that the individual compounds are not stable, forming dimers and other compounds in aqueous solution. The most abundant colored fraction showed Perseoranjin to have a parent ion [M+H]+ with m/z 603.1675 in positive mode. Based on the presence of an abundant m/z 441 fragment (Δm/z 162), we hypothesized that the compound was a glycosylated compound. The same extract also contained other [M+H]+ ions including an unrelated m/z 603.1687 compound, a m/z 917.2639 compound with a m/z 603 moiety, and finally an m/z 1205 dimer produced from the combination of two m/z 603 compounds. Using LC-MS-based metabolomics and principal component analysis (PCA) of the colored and PPO-inhibited-uncolored extracts, we found approximately forty-nine masses unique to the colored or uncolored extract as well as some known compounds present in both. Abscisic acid and perseitol, the 7-member sugar alcohol, were present in both extracts while epicatechin, catechin, procyanidin B2 and salidroside were found only in the uncolored extract. Here, we report the results of our on-going studies to chemically characterize this new orange pigment. We also provide some preliminary results on its colorant properties in various food products. These results will support a new, value-added use for avocado seeds which are frequently viewed as a low-value waste product. ▼ This thesis was carried out inside of the temperature and humidity laboratory (LabTH) of the Instituto Nacional de Técnica Aeroespacial (INTA), which is the Spanish Designated Institute (DI) for the field of humidity and, therefore, holder of the national standards in such quantity. Among many other duties of a DI are to promote and participate in national and international R&D projects whose goals set were in line with those scored in the last European Roadmaps for the hygrometry field, for this particular case. For these reasons, and as a part of such participation in research projects, it is essential to emphasize that part of this thesis was developed inside of the framework of the joint research project “ENG01-Gas. Characterization of Energy Gases” which running under the European Metrology Research Program (EMRP), with the main target of supporting the natural gas industry to overcome its current big challenges. Moisture content is a key factor inside the natural gas (NG) industry. Not only does decrease the efficiency of the final product when the water content is high, but it can also trigger potentially dangerous conditions due to the formation of hydrates, that can block pipelines and damage pumping devices and produce other negative effects. For these reasons, accurate measurement and control of humidity is essential in all processing step of natural gas. However, current practice for such moisture measurements is for the devices to be calibrated at atmospheric pressure and in nitrogen or air as the matrix gas, conditions that vary significantly from those present in the actual industrial process, so their performance in real industrial conditions could be much smaller than expected and even insufficient. Besides, technologies traditionally used by NG industry, such us, condensation hygrometers and metal oxide capacitive probes, have some drawbacks that not always allow to measure and control humidity of NG with the accuracy and reliability desired.

▼ Pools of light non-aqueous phase liquids (LNAPLs) are a legacy of past practices at petroleum facilities. Traditional LNAPL remedies (e.g. hydraulic LNAPL recovery) are often costly and have limited effectiveness. Recent studies have indicated that natural losses of LNAPL can help to stabilize and even shrink subsurface LNAPL bodies once the LNAPL source is removed. Developing an effective understanding of natural losses of LNAPL is an important step in establishing LNAPL management strategies. Estimated rates of natural losses of LNAPL can be used to demonstrate LNAPL stability, form a basis for initiating or discontinuing hydraulic recovery, estimate longevity of LNAPL bodies, and as a benchmark to compare relative effectiveness of different remedial alternatives. Additionally, an understanding of underlying processes gained through field studies can guide development of new, more sustainable LNAPL remediation technologies. A novel integral CO2 Trap was created to measure soil CO2 efflux at grade. This addresses a need for an efficient tool to quantify natural losses of LNAPL. The hypothesis of this thesis is that CO2 Traps can be used to quantify natural losses of LNAPL at field sites. Laboratory and field tests were performed to test the CO2 Traps and demonstrate their utility. First, laboratory experiments were undertaken to demonstrate the ability of the traps to quantitatively capture CO2 and effectively estimate CO2 fluxes. Closed system column testing showed that the selected sorbent media is capable of quantitatively recovering CO2. This testing also verified that the sorption capacity of the media (~30% CO2 by mass) was in the range indicated by the manufacturer. This information is useful when planning maximum field deployment times, and as a means of quality checking field sampling results. Next, an open system column test showed that the CO2 Traps are capable of quantitatively measuring CO2 flux through porous media. The traps were field tested. Results of a single round of CO2 Trap deployment at one field site showed that the traps could distinguish zones of elevated CO2 flux over the LNAPL body, relative to naturally occurring CO2 flux at background locations. Background subtracted LNAPL loss rates ranging from 800 to 12,000 gallons per acre per year (gal/acre/yr) were observed. Carbon isotope analysis was performed on one travel blank sample, two background samples, and one LNAPL area sample. Radiocarbon (14C) results provided an independent means to estimate naturally occurring CO2 flux. Results of the 14C correction agreed well with the background subtraction method for that location. CO2 traps have been deployed at a total of 117 locations at 6 field sties. Seasonal resampling of selected locations has yielded a total of 194 CO2 flux readings.
