▼ This thesis presents the design, model and performance analysis of a new and novel 4-node intelligent routing algorithm (4-NIRA) for Mobile Ad Hoc Network (MANET). The proposed 4-NIRA provides improved ad hoc communications over other prominent algorithms and has the additional advantage of being compatible with a diverse range of access networks such as IEEE 802.11, LTE, and LTE-Advanced. A MANET is a network consisting of two or more compatible mobile devices capable of communicating with one another without the support of fixed infrastructure such as base stations or access networks. Similar to other communication techniques, MANETs require a routing algorithm for optimum performance. A number of algorithms have been proposed to date. Although each of these algorithms has its advantages, limitations still exist. Therefore, the need for an optimum routing algorithm that is fast, reliable, provides longer battery life and compatible with different access networks is still present. The search for an optimum routing algorithm for MANETs initially led to the proposal of a quadrant based intelligent routing algorithm, which was refined by restricting its transmission range towards one quadrant. However, this algorithm can identify a longer path between two nodes when the number of nodes in the destination quadrant is large and an arbitrary path selection between nodes occurs. This limitation was overcome by selecting a subset of up to 4 nodes towards the destination. An intelligent energy matrix was also incorporated into the proposed algorithm to improve the energy efficiency of the technique by providing longer battery life. The proposed algorithm, 4-NIRA, is iterative and for each hop selects up to four nodes towards the destination and then identifies the node with the highest energy rating within the subset to act as the relay for subsequent data transmissions. To improve node identification and performance the IPv6 addressing scheme was utilised with 4-NIRA to add Quality of Service. Initial research was carried out to develop improved MANET routing algorithms using an IEEE 802.11 environment and the outcomes of the research was the quadrant based intelligent routing algorithm and the 4-NIRA. The proposed algorithm, 4-NIRA, was developed using Long Term Evolution (LTE), which is a recent mobile cellular access technology that has a feature set that differs from that of IEEE 802.11, making it a suitable candidate for intelligent high performance MANETs. The proposed 4-NIRA makes a novel contribution to MANET routing by improving relay node selection, introducing an intelligent energy matrix, and being compatible with a diverse range of access mediums. Selecting a subset of nodes in the direction of the destination node consisting of up to four nodes optimises the efficient utilization of bandwidth and improves transmission reliability. Tämän opinnäytetyön idea lähti siitä kun Tampereen ammattikorkeakoulu päätti hankkia SwissQualin valmistaman mittausohjelman sisältävän älypuhelimen. Ohjelmalla oli tarkoitus mitata teleoperaattoreiden 4G-verkkoja Tampereella Aitolahden, Kämmenniemen, Terälahden sekä Muroleen alueella. Tarkoituksena oli saada dataa kuuluvuuksista sekä pienemmässä mittakaavassa latausnopeuksista. Käytettiin DNA:n, Elisa/Saunalahden sekä Soneran SIM-kortteja. Verkon kuuluvuuksissa DNA:lla oli katvealueita, mutta muutoin kuuluvuus oli parempi kuin Soneralla. Elisa/Saunalahdella verkon kuuluvuudessa ei havaittu katvealueita, kuten ei myöskään Soneralla. Soneran verkossa kuuluvuussignaalit olivat heikoimmat muihin verrattuna. Latausnopeuksista saatu vertailukelpoinen data osoitti, että Soneralla oli alhaisin nopeus. DNA ja Elisa/Saunalahti olivat samalla tasolla, mutta kuitenkin DNA:n latausnopeus oli hieman parempi. Nämä ensimmäiset mittaukset laitteella osoittautuivat onnistuneiksi ja todettiin laitteen olevan hyvä apuväline 4G-verkkojen mittaamiseen. Uutena projekti-ideana Tampereen ammattikorkeakoulu voisi tutkia omien langattomien verkkojen kuuluvuuksia kampusalueella.

The idea for this thesis came when Tampere University of Applied Sciences decided to invest into a smartphone that had a measurement application for networks. This measurement application was made by SwissQual. The purpose was to measure different teleoperator 4G networks in Tampere region and specifically in Aitolahti, Kämmenniemi, Terälahti and Murole. The purpose was to get data from reception and in a smaller scale from download speeds. SIM cards were from DNA, Elisa/Saunalahti and Sonera. In network reception DNA had blind spots but otherwise the reception was better compared to Sonera. No blind spots were noticed in Elisa/Saunalahti’s network and neither in Sonera’s network. The reception signals in Sonera’s network were weaker compared to the other operators. The comparable data from download speeds obtained showed that Sonera had the lowest rate. DNA and Elisa/Saunalahti were at the same level, but the loading speed with DNA was slightly better. These first measurements with the device were a success. It was also noticed that the device was a good aid in 4G network measurement. As a new project idea Tampere University of Applied Sciences could inspect their own wireless networks in the campus area using this device.

METIS on tutkimushanke, jolla luodaan perusta tulevaisuuden matkaviestinnän ja langattoman viestinnän 5G-verkolle, joka koostuu olemassa olevan langattoman tekniikan kehittyneemmistä versioista, sekä uusista langattomista tekniikoista. METIS hankkeen tarkoituksena on kehittää järjestelmä, jossa yhdistyvät tehokkuus, muunnettavuus ja skaalattavuus. Hanke pyrkii tarjoamaan uusia langattoman teknologian käsitteitä ja tutkimusta massiivisten koneiden välisestä viestinnästä, ultratiheistä verkoista ja ultraluotettavasta viestinnästä. Purpose of this thesis is to look at the development of mobile phone networks , as well as to think about what the future into the current techniques with a view to bring. The focus will be mainly in the GSM (Global System for Mobile communications), UMTS (Universal Mobile Telecommunication Services) and LTE (Long Term Evolution) networks and introduces the technology. METIS is a research project which establishes the foundation for future mobile and wireless communications 5G network, which consists of an existing wireless technology, the advanced versions, as well as new wireless technologies . The project aims to develop a system that combines the efficiency, versatility and scalability. The project aims to provide new wireless technology concepts and research in the communication between the massive machines , ultra- dense networks and ultra-reliable communication. The project includes 29 companie as well as the EU is involved in financing the project .

La montée en fréquence de commutation des transistors de puissance à base de Nitrure de Gallium (GaN) présente une avancée technologique conduisant à la réduction de la taille, du poids et du volume des systèmes de conversion de l’énergie. En effet, les propriétés physiques des transistors de type HEMT basés sur l’hétérostructure AlGaN/GaN présentent un fort potentiel pour le développement de convertisseurs statiques haute fréquence. Avec l’augmentation toujours croissante de la part de l’électronique de puissance dans les systèmes électriques actuels, cette filière technologique, associée à la filière du Carbure de Silicium (SiC), vise aujourd’hui à remplacer progressivement les composants de puissance à base de Silicium (Si) notamment pour des raisons de tension de claquage élevée, de robustesse vis-à-vis des conditions sévères de fonctionnement et d’intégration de puissance. La conception optimale des convertisseurs haute fréquence implique une connaissance précise du fonctionnement des composants de puissance au sein de ces systèmes. Ainsi, la conception de ces dispositifs repose sur des étapes d’analyse et de simulations menées à partir des modèles des semi-conducteurs de puissance et des éléments environnants. L’objectif de ce travail de thèse est de proposer une méthodologie de modélisation comportementale de transistors de puissance GaN en boitier basée exclusivement sur des méthodes de caractérisation non-intrusives. Les techniques de caractérisation électriques utilisées pour la modélisation de transistors fonctionnant en gammes radiofréquences, telles que la mesure des paramètres S ou les mesures courant/tension en régime pulsé, sont ici adaptées à la caractérisation du transistor de puissance GaN encapsulé. A partir des résultats de caractérisation, les différents éléments linéaires et non linéaires du modèle électrique du transistor sont obtenus et un modèle électrique complet rassemblant ces éléments est implémenté dans le logiciel de simulation ADS. Un banc de test Double Pulse est alors conçu afin de mettre en application le modèle électrique développé. Après modélisation de l’environnement du transistor, y compris du circuit imprimé, les résultats de simulation des formes d’onde de commutation sont confrontés aux résultats expérimentaux. Afin de tenir compte des effets de la température sur le fonctionnement du transistor, une méthodologie est proposée permettant d’obtenir le modèle thermique du composant à partir de mesures de puissance dissipée et d’une procédure d’optimisation. À partir du modèle obtenu, un convertisseur DC/DC utilisant le transistor GaN modélisé a été conçu et réalisé. Les résultats de simulation des formes d’onde de commutation sont confrontés aux résultats expérimentaux pour différentes températures de fonctionnement du transistor et une prédiction du fonctionnement en continu du convertisseur est réalisée.

Les avancées des technologies III-V permettent aujourd’hui de concevoir des composants électroniques fonctionnant en gammes millimétrique et submillimétrique (fréquences Terahertz) pour répondre aux besoins émergeants du marché des télécommunications et de l’électronique à destination de différents secteurs industriels. L’électronique THz trouve des débouchées importantes dans les applications d’imagerie, entre autres pour la sécurité et les communications sans fils ultra haut débit (5G plus).La technologie des transistors HEMT InP a connu ces dernières années un progrès remarquable dans la réalisation des circuits intégrés à très hautes fréquences (fréquence de fonctionnement à 1 THz) et de faible bruit. Peu d’acteurs mondiaux de la microélectronique (aucun en France) ont établi des performances atteignant ces fréquences THz. Nous proposons de développer une technologie répondant à cette demande.Dans ces travaux de thèse, nous proposons de développer des HEMT InAlAs /InGaAs/InAs sur substrat d’InP de fréquence de coupure THz pour amplification faible bruit dans les systèmes de réception-détection THz. Nous avons pour cela optimisé la structure semiconductrice utilisée afin d’obtenir un meilleur compromis mobilité/charges électroniques. Nous avons également apporté des modifications géométriques (longueur de grille, taille du recess et espacements des électrodes du transistor) qui ont permis d’augmenter considérablement les fréquences de fonctionnement du transistor. Nous avons réalisé des mesures de paramètres S jusque 750 GHz et en bruit jusque 110 GHz, afin de valider les optimisations technologiques apportées à la structure HEMT.

Progress of III-V technologies are now making it possible to design electronic components operating in the millimeter and sub-millimeter wave range (THz) are facing the needs of the telecommunications and electronics market for various industrial sectors. The technology of InP High Electron Mobility Transistor (HEMT) allowed in recent years a remarkable progress in the realization of integrated circuits at very high frequencies (operating frequency at 1 THz) and low noise. Few world players in microelectronics (none in France) have established performances reaching these THz frequencies. We propose to develop a technology that meets this demand.We propose to develop InAlAs /InGaAs/InAs HEMT with THz cutoff frequency and low noise, mainly for reception-detection THz electronic system. The work will therefore focus on the determination of an optimal epitaxial structure using InAlAs/InGaAs/InAs materials by performing Hall effect measurements of several heterostructures, in order to determine the layer offering a better mobility / electronic charges tradeoff. The modifications of the transistor geometry (gate length, recess size and the spacings of the electrodes of the transistor) made it possible to considerably increase the operating frequency of the transistor. ▼ Relay technology has the potential to dramatically improve throughput for Long Term Evolution (LTE) network users. However, the existing 3rd Generation Partnership Project (3GPP) standard for relaying, the Type 1 relay, is best suited to cell extension. An alternative design, Type 2, was considered for increasing throughput within the existing coverage region. It has not been standardized, but has been cited as in need of further study. In this thesis, we augment the Type 2 relay design and achieve the following: 1. Improve throughput for relay-supported users. 2. Empower the relays to make decisions as to which users they support. 3. Introduce as few new protocols as possible to implement the relay. To achieve these objectives, the proposed relay has a decision criterion to compare its own achievable throughput against the throughput of any candidate users it detects. Depending on the relative quality of its connections, the relay may opt to provide two-hop Time-Division Multiplexing (TDM) support or retransmission support. Once it reaches its decision, the relay informs the evolved Node B (eNB) of its intent to support the user and the mode by which it will do so. The eNB adjusts its behaviour accordingly and continues to perform all downlink control functions. Unlike standard relay systems, the proposed approach requires no approval from the eNB and no user handoff. Simulations were conducted using Network Simulator 3.21 (ns-3.21) and data was processed in MATLAB R2012a. For a relay with transmit power characteristics equivalent to users in the cell, 35% to 38% of users within its observation region are eligible for some form of support. The majority of supported users received retransmission support, rather than two-hop TDM. Additionally, if optimized relay placement can achieve a 5 dB improvement to the relay-eNB channel, the percentage of supported users increases to between 49% and 55%. With the 5 dB improvement, the number of users eligible for two-hop TDM increased substantially, particularly at larger bandwidths. Network configuration parameters had a considerable impact on results. In particular, the Control Format Indicator (CFI) and channel bandwidth (W) had the greatest impact on results.

▼ Écosystèmes de télécommunications seront composés, dans le futur, de plusieurs réseaux hétérogènes, réseaux sans fil et réseaux cellulaires, et un terminal d’utilisateur qui est capable de se connecter et de se communiquer à travers ces réseaux. Cette thèse contribue pour l’évolution de convergence dans les réseaux hétérogènes sans fil ainsi que de proposer des nouveaux mécanismes afin de permettre de délai bas pendant le « handover » au niveau de l’authentification en utilisant la sélection de réseau, l’administration de sécurité et la mobilité dans les futurs écosystèmes de télécommunications pour permettre un accès ubiquité à Internet et aussi à des services en cas de mobilité. Cet accès doit être disponible tout le temps et partout en assurant le bon niveau de sécurité pour les utilisateurs ainsi que pour les réseaux. Un objectif principal de cette thèse est de définir des mécanismes pour « seamless secured roaming » afin que les abonnés ou les utilisateurs soient capable de se promener entre différents réseaux d’accès qui implémente des technologies et des mécanismes d’accès similaires. La thèse présentée propose une solution de roaming et interopérabilité en utilisant des entités intermédiaires qu’on appelle « Roaming Interworking Intermediary (RII) ». Ces entités permettent un « handover » sûr à travers des différents systèmes d’accès et différents opérateurs sans interruption de service. RII agit comme un agent dans l'architecture RII entre le réseau d’origine et le réseau d'opérateur visité. RII permet l'administration de la mobilité, le transfert entre les fournisseurs de service, l'architecture de sécurité pour l'authentification et les associations d'utilisateurs en parcourant, aussi l’administration de réseau et de présence. Cette thèse définit, aussi, des nouveaux mécanismes qui permettent des délais bas pendant les « handovers » et « roaming » en optimisant et présentant des nouveaux modèles d’authentification et de mobilité (post hanover techniques) dans les réseaux hétérogènes. Nous avons présenté de nouvelles méthodes afin de résoudre le problème de longues périodes d'identité d'utilisateur et de routage des informations d'authentification d'utilisateur dans les réseaux d’accès visités avec ou sans SLA direct avec le réseau d’origine. Nous avons développé un modèle d’authentification dynamique en utilisant l’architecture de RII proposé, où un utilisateur ou un abonné est authentifiés au réseau de visite sans besoin de router des informations authentiques aux réseaux d’origine. Cette thèse propose aussi des nouveaux mécanismes de mobilité basés sur « Proxy IP Mobile » et étend l'infrastructure d'AAA pour obtenir des délais très bas pendant le « handover » dans les réseaux WLAN, WIMAX et 3G. Des études comparatives, entre les modèles proposés et existants, concernant l'authentification et la mobilité sont effectuées à travers des plate-forme réelles. ▼ Adding a concentration gradient of sulfur to Cu2ZnSnSe4 to form a pentanary alloy of Cu2ZnSn(SxSe1-x)4 (CZTSSe) may modify the band structure to enhance the light absorption and also reduce the band discontinuity between the absorber layer and the buffer layer to lower the carrier transport barrier. In this work, we developed a combination of selenization and sulfurization processes to prepare CZTSSe films. Firstly, elemental precursors with a stacking sequence of (S,Se)/Cu/Sn/Zn/SLG were used for further reaction by rapid thermal annealing to form a single-phase Cu2ZnSn(S,Se)4 (CZTSSe) film. The preset composition of a precursor was Cu/(Zn+Sn)=0.75, Zn/Sn=1.3, and Se/Metal=1.3. An additional sulfur pellet weighted about 0.05g was placed in the graphite box to provide sufficient sulfur vapor during the RTA process. The heating process was done by a temperature ramp rate above 20 °C/sec and kept at 530 °C for 1 min. Both XRD and Raman analysis indicated that CZTSSe films could be formed under proper conditions. However, the film structures were poor for all the specimens. For a better control of the S/Se ratio in the film, a precursor with stacked metal films was simultaneously exposed to S and Se vapor fluxes and heated to 570 °C with a temperature ramp rate of 30 °C/min in a vacuum chamber. The duration of thermal annealing was 40 minutes. Indeed, the CZTSSe films were successfully prepared as expected. Further invstigations using GIXRD revealed a slight concentration gradient of sulfur in the film. Unfortunately, the film structure still needs to be improved but it may not easy due to the formation of solid phases of binary and/or ternary sulfides during the heating processes. Since a CZTSe film with a compact grain structure can be easily prepraed in our laborotory by rapd thermal seelnization, a technique based on the interdiffusion between ZnS and CZTSe has thus been developed to produce a CZTSSe film with a desired sulfur gradient. An annealing at 400 °C for 10 minutes would do the work. Auger depth profiling as well as GIXRD showed the evidences of significant interdiffusion bwtween the two materials. Although a first try on the device fabrication was not sucessful, this is still a convicing technique for future device developments. ▼ This thesis explores the phenomenon of coping with dyslexia based on the perspectives of six Greek dyslexic adults, as expressed by themselves. The research is concerned with exploration of the phenomenon by standing out from linear reductionist approaches - whether pathologising person-focused or exclusively environment-focused - as well as interactionist approaches that are simplistically additive. Instead, the study explores the phenomenon of coping with dyslexia from a transactional perspective which assumes that the factors of coping are strongly interrelated, mutually affected and altered by the transaction, suggesting a more complex and holistic understanding of the phenomenon. More specifically, the study considers the adequacy of Schlossberg’s transitional 4 S System in explaining the experiences of individuals who cope with dyslexia. To pursue the purposes of the study, a multiple case studies design was employed and semi-structured interviews were conducted. Findings suggest that for the participants, coping with dyslexia is not restricted simply to dealing with a set of difficulties, because the dyslexia ‘situation’ is a complex entity with a variety of aspects which relate directly or indirectly to literacy efficiency. Participants reported employing a complex and constantly evolving (across contexts and over time) system of different coping strategies. In fact, findings suggest that coping with dyslexia is not a stable entity but a transactional process which is characterised by fluidity, non-linear evolution and involvement of multiple factors. The 4 S System managed as an analytic tool to adequately identify and explain the complex transactionist relationships between the involved factors and the system of coping as a whole. Finally, in terms of effectiveness, findings suggested that there are no magic recipes. The usefulness of a coping or support activity seems to be an individualistic issue determined by contemporariness and so, a flexible approach towards coping with dyslexia is suggested.

La investigación analiza las actividades de los Clubes 4-S (Conocer, Sentir, Salud, Servir) en el Oeste de Paraná, específicamente en el municipio de Rondón. Este programa fue implementado por la Oficina de Agricultura Técnica (ETA proyecto N ° 15), el cuerpo binacional establecida en Brasil en 1953 de un nuevo acuerdo entre los EE.UU. y los gobiernos de Brasil. Esta institución fue el responsable de la fundación y desarrollo de la extensión rural en el estado de Paraná entre 1956 y también para la propagación del proyecto de modernización agrícola en algunas regiones de Brasil. La matriz de estos Clubes es americano (Clubes 4-H que su significación es Cabeza, Corazón, Manos y Salud) y, al igual que la extensión rural, ambicionaran servir como enlace entre el conocimiento científico y su aplicación en la agricultura de subsistencia considerado por la extensión como "arcaica". Los Clubes 4-S aparecieran en Brasil en un contexto en el que se observaron los dilemas de la producción agrícola como el principal obstáculo para el desarrollo económico del país. El Estado formuló y ha reproducido cada vez más medidas para aumentar la productividad agrícola. En este estudio, se investigó el discurso de interés de las agencias de extensión rural en la formación de los jóvenes rurales como los principales impulsores de la modernización de la agricultura como liderazgos en esta región. Por otro lado, el 4-S destinaba-se a formarlos sujetos capaces de hacer frente a las técnicas "modernas" y las tecnologías difundidas por la extensión agrícola. Las principales fuentes de análisis para la preparación de esta investigación son los informes de las agencias de extensión rural de Paraná, como ETA proyecto nº 15, las directrices de la ACARPA, los periódicos locales como "Rondon Comunicación" y fuentes de la Radio Difusora como el programa "Frente Amplio de Noticias", documentos proporcionados por el Instituto Paraná de Asistencia Técnica y Extensión Rural – EMATER, Curitiba / Paraná, por el Centro de Documentación e Investigación del Oeste de Paraná – CEPEDAL.

▼ Cell search of Third Generation Partnership Project Long Term Evolution (3GPP LTE) includes time synchronization and frequency synchronization of frames, and the acquisition of Cell Identity (Cell ID). The LTE systems use 504 Cell IDs divided into 168 unique Cell-Identity Groups (Cell-ID Groups), and each Cell-ID Group comprises three Sector Identities (Sector IDs). After reaching synchronization of time and frequency between frames, the Cell ID acquisition scheme provided by specification of 3GPP LTE is consisted of two steps, the first step must utilize three matched filters to detect one out of three Sector IDs, and then implement coherent correlation detection between 168 Pseudo Random Noise Sequences (PN sequences) to obtain the index of Cell-ID Group. So the cell search scheme provided by LTE standard has to detect correlation of all sequences, and computed complexity brings considerable processing time to effect the delay time of services power on, standby time, energy saved, and cost of manufacture. To reduce complexity, we propose a perfect sequence with special structure as preamble, and the sequence is linear combination of two base sequences. We put the sequences within Primary Synchronization Channel (P-SCH) and Secondary Synchronization Channel (S-SCH), and we utilize the phase rotation factors of the sequences as index to generate Cell ID, instead of the current scheme to generate Cell ID with the indexes between sequences and sequences. Based on the sequences in multipath channel model, simulation results verify the detection probability of Cell IDs by proposed scheme is 100% when SNR is -8dB, and it is 98.7% by the scheme in LTE specification after perfect time and frequency compensation. Except that, Cell ID detection performance is similar without channel compensation to reduce implement complexity. Index Terms- cell search, 3GPP LTE, 16n perfect sequence. Lisäksi työssä esitellään yleisestä teoriaa liittyen matkapuhelinverkkoteknologiaan. Lopuksi pohditaan uusimman matkapuhelinverkkosukupolven tulevaisuudennäkymiä. Aluksi työssä käsitellään matkapuhelinverkkoteknologian olennaisia käsitteitä, joista osaan viitataan myöhemmissä kappaleissa. Matkapuhelinverkkojen teorian osalta esitellään soluverkkomaisen matkapuhelinverkon ideologiaa, sekä esitellään eri matkapuhelinverkkojen arkkitehtuuria. Matkapuhelinverkkojen kehitystä esitellään alkaen ensimmäisen sukupolven matkapuhelinverkkoteknologiasta, päättyen uusimpaan neljännen sukupolven matkapuhelinverkkoteknologiaan. This thesis work presents the structure and the technology beyond the fourth mobile network technology, also known as 4G LTE. The development of the mobile networks, from the first generation to the fourth generation, is also demonstrated. The relevant theory of the mobile network technology is presented. Finally, the future of the mobile networks is considered. At the beginning the relevant terms of the mobile network technology are presented. The cellular concept and the architecture of the mobile networks are presented in the theory chapter. The development from the first generation to the fourth generation is also presented. The work explains the extensions and changes in the technology. The necessary parts of the fourth generation mobile network are presented in the end. The goal of the work is to produce a clear overview of the fourth generation of the mobile networks. It is also desired that the work offers inclusive survey to the development of the mobile network technology, and the theory behind.

Opinnäytetyössä tutkitaan matkapuhelinverkkojen alkua 1940-luvulta alkaen ja näiden kehitystä vuosikymmenien aikana ihmiskunnan muuttuvien tarpeiden kanssa. Perehdytään 3GPP-järjestön (3rd Generation Partnership Project) muodostumiseen ja osuuteen modernien matkapuhelinverkkojen kehityksessä sekä 3GPP:n kehitysprosessiin ITU-R:n (International Telecommunication Union Radiocommunication Sector) asettamia vaatimuksia seuraten. Kolmannen sukupolven matkapuhelinverkkojen käyttämää HSPA+ -tekniikkaa (Evolved High Speed Packet Access) tutkittiin ja verrattiin neljännen sukupolven OFDMtekniikkaan (Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing). LTE-verkkojen (Long Term Evolution) käyttämien uusien OFDMA- (Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiple Access), SC-FDMA- (Single-carrier FDMA) ja MIMO-tekniikoiden (Multiple Input and Multiple Output) ansioista 4G-verkot tekivät suuren parannuksen tiedonsiirron nopeuteen, kapasiteettiin ja häiriöiden sietokykyyn. Kolmannen sukupolven UMTS-verkkoarkkitehtuuri koostui useammasta elementistä kuin neljännen sukupolven LTE-verkkoarkkitehtuuri, joka oli yksinkertaistettu jotta voitaisiin parantaa verkon suorituskykyä ja vähentää viiveitä. Vaikka LTEverkkoarkkitehtuuria yksinkertaistettiin käytetyt tekniikat monimutkaistuivat, jotta verkkoihin voitaisiin saada mahdollisimman monta käyttäjää rajoittamatta kapasiteettia tai tiedonsiirtonopeutta. Työssä verrattiin vielä toisiinsa näiden matkapuhelinverkkojen datansiirtonopeuksia downlink-suunnassa. HSPA+ -tekniikkaa käyttävät verkot saavuttivat ideaalissa olosuhteissa nopeuden 42,2 Mbit/s, kun taas LTE-tekniikkaa käyttävät uudemmat verkot saavuttivat ideaalisissa olosuhteissa nopeuden 299,6 Mbit/s. Näiden todettiin jäävän kiinteisiin kuituverkkoihin verrattuna selvästi jälkeen, mutta tulevaisuuden 5G-verkkojen integrointi 4G-verkkojen kanssa voisi tarjota parempia palveluja kuin kiinteät kuituverkot nykyään.

This thesis researched the beginning of cellular networks starting from the 1940s and followed the evolution of these networks over the decades, as mankind’s changing needs regarding these networks took a clear direction. This paper looks at the formation of the 3GPP organization (3rd Generation Partnership Project) and its part in the shaping of modern cellular networks. 3GPP’s network development process following the requirements laid down by ITU-R (International Telecommunication Union Radiocommunication Sector) is also focused upon. Tämä opinnäytetyö tehtiin Ruovedellä toimivalle Pohjois-Hämeen Puhelin Oy:lle, joka tuottaa asiakkailleen kiinteitä-, mobiili- ja kaapelitelevisioverkkoja hyödyntäviä tehokkaita ja monipuolisia tietoliikennepalveluita. Yhtiö toimii Kuoreveden, Mänttä-Vilppulan, Ruoveden ja Virtain alueella. Opinnäytetyön tarkoituksena oli suunnitella ja toteuttaa Mänttä-Vilppulan Vesihuollolle 3G-yhteyksiä ja VPN-tekniikkaa hyödyntävä verkko. Suunnitellun verkon tarkoituksena oli korvata vanhat kiinteällä puhelinyhteydellä toimivat hallintayhteydet 3G-yhteyksillä. Verkon toteuttamiseen käytettiin Ciscon 819 3G-reititintä ja Ciscon ASA 5505 palomuuria. Tässä opinnäytetyössä käytiin läpi kolmannen sukupolven matkapuhelinjärjestelmän teknisiä perusteita ja tulevaisuuden neljännen sukupolven matkapuhelinjärjestelmien tuomia muutoksia. Työssä keskityttiin erityisesti Euroopassa yleisimmin käytettyyn UMTS-tekniikkaan (Universal Mobile Telecommunications System). Työssä käytiin myös läpi kolmannen ja neljännen sukupolven järjestelmien välisiä nopeuseroja käytännön esimerkkien avulla. Työn tuloksena saatiin suunniteltua ja toteutettua Mänttä-Vilppulan Vesihuollolle verkko, jonka olisi mahdollista korvata tällä hetkellä käytössä oleva verkko. Uusi 3G-tekniikkaa hyödyntävä verkko mahdollistaisi helpomman vikojen paikallistamisen ja uuden verkon ansiosta verkon ylläpitokustannuksetkin saataisiin pienenemään.

This Bachelor’s thesis was made for Pohjois-Hämeen Puhelin Oy, a Ruovesi-based company, which provides mobile and fixed telecommunication services to its customers. The company operates in the areas of Kuorevesi, Mänttä-Vilppula, Ruovesi and Virrat. The goal of this thesis was to design and implement a network for Mänttä-Vilppulan Vesihuolto Oy. The networks main goal was to replace the old fixed land lines with 3G-connections including VPN (Virtual Private Network). The devices that were used in this thesis were Cisco 819 3G-router and Cisco ASA 5505 firewall. This thesis focuses on the basics of 3rd generation UMTS-network (Universal Mobile Telecommunications System) and on the upcoming changes of the 4th generation LTE-networks (Long Term Evolution). There is also a practical example of the speeds of 3rd generation and 4th generation connections in this thesis. As a result of this thesis, it is now possible for the Mänttä-Vilppula’s Vesihuolto to up-date their old network to the new one which uses 3G-connections. By the use of this new network it is easier to troubleshoot the connections and as a result of this the maintenance costs of the network will go down also.
