1. Paragi, Tanja. Analiza podnapisov glede na rabo socialnih zvrsti slovenskega jezika v filmski trilogiji Boter.

Degree: 2015, Univerza v Mariboru

The aim of this master's thesis is to present and analyze subtitles in The Godfather Trilogy according to the usage of the social registers of Slovene language. The theoretical part represents the social registers of English and Slovene language, based mostly on the theories of Jože Toporišič and Andrej Skubic, who introduced the term and concept of sociolect in the theory of the social register. We have also focused on the concept of social network and social environment, which play an important role in understanding and subtitling or translating the film into a second foreign language. Finally, we presented the theory of Bernard Nežmah, who in his book clarified the difference between curses and swear words, as well as the theory of Kitty M. van Leuven-Zwart, who developed a method for finding differences between the original and the translation. The comparative analysis that mainly focuses on the analysis of social registers showed that there are no major differences among the three parts of The Godfather Trilogy. Each new part of the film follows the story of the previous film. Even though the actors changed through the trilogy and after twenty years, when the third part of the trilogy was filmed, only a handful of them remained the same, both old and new were still representing the family Corleone, an Italian family, integrated into the American society that sought to maintain balance between these two cultures.

2. Lopan, Tea. Kletvice in psovke v trboveljskem govoru.

Degree: 2017, Univerza v Mariboru

V magistrskem delu Kletvice in psovke trboveljskega govora so analizirane kletvice in psovke, ki se uporabljajo v Trbovljah, katerih krajevni govor se uvršča v zagorsko-trboveljsko podnarečje posavskega narečja štajerske narečne skupine. Z raziskavo smo preverjali kletvice in psovke v trboveljskem govoru in njihovo uporabo. Ugotavljali smo izvor kletvic in psovk (s pomočjo nam dostopne literature), njihovo prehajanje v splošno rabo, morebitno izgubo negativne in pridobitev pozitivne konotacije. Zanimalo nas je tudi, ali se kletvice in psovke morebiti pojavljajo tudi kot sestavina frazemov. Informatorje smo razdelili v dve skupini in preverjali medgeneracijsko uporabo kletvic in psovk. Kletvice in psovke smo uvrstili v več podskupin, pri čemer smo sledili razdelitvi Klemenčičeve (2016, 39–49), ki smo ji dodali še nekaj drugih motivov, in sicer: religiozni motiv, skatološki motiv, motiv spolnih organov, motiv spolnega odnosa, motiv homoseksualnosti, motiv matere in otroka, motiv prostitucije, motiv onaniranja, motiv živali, motiv telesnih značilnosti in hib, motiv ženske, motiv predmetov, motiv naravnih pojavov, motiv nacionalne pripadnosti in drugo. V teoretičnem delu smo predstavili geografski in zgodovinski oris kraja, s katerim bomo poizkušali prikazati družbene razmere za lažje razumevanje prostora in časa, prav tako pa bomo s tem predstavili tudi današnje Trbovlje. Kletvice in psovke so v Trbovljah pogost pojav in se vsakodnevno pojavljajo kot enakovreden del trboveljskega govora.

For the purpose of the present master's thesis swear and curse words used in Trbovlje have been analysed. This local speech is classified as the Zagorje-Trbovlje subdialect being a part of the Lower Sava Valley dialect, which belongs to the Styrian dialect group. During the research swear and curse words in the speech of Trbovlje and the use thereof were examined. By means of accessible literature the origin of swear and curse words, the passing over thereof into general use and an eventual loss of a negative connotation as well as getting a positive one were determined. We were also interested in the possible occurrence of swear and curse words as parts of idioms. We divided the informants into two groups and studied the intergenerational use of swear and curse words. Considering the Klemenčič (2016, 39-49) classification, swear and curse words were placed into several subgroups. The said classification was supplemented by several other motives like religious motive, scatological motive, motives in relation to genitals, sexual intercourse, homosexuality, mother and child, prostitution, masturbation, animals, physical characteristics and defects, women, objects, natural phenomena, national affiliation etc. In order to present the social circumstances for better understanding of place and time the theoretical part contains a geographical and historical description of the town and thus Trbovlje as it is today is presented as well. Swear and curse words in Trbovlje are very commonly used and are considered to be an equivalent part of…

3. Ogrizek, Mitja. PREVAJANJE KLETVIC IN PSOVK V DELU JAMESA KELMANA HOW LATE IT WAS, HOW LATE.

Degree: 2016, Univerza v Mariboru

Namen magistrskega dela je, ugotoviti primernost prevoda kletvic in psovk v romanu Jamesa Kelmana How late it was how late. Kletvic in psovk ni vedno prilagodil ciljni publiki. V večini primerov je prišlo tudi do pomenskih premikov, kar je nedvomno vplivalo na percepcijo prevoda v ciljni kulturi.

The purpose of the master thesis is to evaluate the adequacy of the translations of swear words and curse words in James Kelman’s How late it was how late. In the Slovene translation we can see that in most cases the swear words and curse words were preserved, though inadequately translated by Andrej E. Skubic. In the theoretical part we define slang and curse words and analyze the ways used to translate such expressions. In the practical part, we compared the original with the translation, identified and analyzed translation shifts. The results of the comparison showed that, in most cases, swearing words in the translation were preserved but the translator did not always take into consideration the target audience. We also found numerous examples of shift in meanings which influenced the perception of the word in the target culture.
