▼ The work has been carried out as a product development project at Saab AB in Arboga, focusing on construction. Saab in Arboga develops test systems for JAS 39 Gripen, whose purpose is to verify all the contacts. This is done by using the test system, ATE. Before testing can begin, the wiring harness in the ITA must be verified. Currently this is done manually, and due to wiring extent, the risks of incorrect measurements are apparent. In addition to incorrect measuring, the extent of the wiring can also lead to incorrect wiring in production. These errors can result in the test system fails, which means great financial loss for the company. The project's aim was to develop an automated measurement process and produce a prototype, in order to verify that the ITA is correctly connected before the simulation is done. The main issue for the project has been if an automated measurement process can obtain sufficient precision to replace manual measurement. By analyzing the market for automated movement, a number of concepts for the overall measurement process were generated. The concepts were evaluated with decision-matrix method, as well with regard to the complexity of the required software management for each concept. The measurement process that was chosen based on the 3D printer and its underlying mechanics and automation. To realize the concept to a fully working prototype the process of product development was broken down in segments. This reduced the level of complexity, while it contributed to simplify optimization. In order to achieve optimum design every segment consisted of concept generation and concept evaluation. The construction which is the basis for the prototype is an off-the-shelf solution, and based on the parts used in the milling machine x-Carve. The overall structure is based on the milling machine, however modified to the extent that the purpose can be achieved. The choice to base the design on the X-Carve was made against the background that it harmonized well with the overall concept of measuring process, but also well with the concepts generated in the broken down segments, mentioned above. The underlying factor to the use of components which is an off-the-shelf solution to the design is a result of the project vastness and the provided time. The developed prototype lives up to the requirements. Empirical tests indicate that the prototype obtains sufficient precision to perform measurements. The results of the tests carried out shows that manual labor can be replaced, and therefore leads to the conclusion that the prototype proved useful. The prototype has some potential for development, why it is recommended to examine each segment if additional optimizations must be made.

▼ The dissertation is focused on the problematic of the driver´s ability to see pedestrians in the conditions of driving at night. The first part tells the current view of these problematic, terms are defined: the outlook and the range of vision to see the obstacle. This part also describes various effects that are affecting the driver´s ability to see pedestrians while driving at night. Out of all mentioned effects, this project mainly focuses on two parameters – how is the driver´s ability to see a pedestrian affected by his obsolence and developing visual handicap. During the research, high number of respondents of wide range of age and various vision quality were present and attended the experiment. This project proposes a methodology of comparasion of those two parameters mentioned above. The main condition which must have been held was to create absolutelly identical conditions of the experiment used by wide range of respondetns. The best way how to possibly achive the best results is by using a video scene on the PC monitor. Two sets of photographies were made while preparing the experiment (2 various sets of clothes for the pedestrian) and these sets were sorted by using the Microsoft Office Power Point program. This made a simulation of a vehicle approaching a pedestrian at night. The measurement was attended by a large number of respondents who were divided into a total of nine categories, according to age and extent of ocular defects. The dissertation is a methodology for evaluating the measurements, determination of contrast and angular size of the watched object (pedestrian) using the scene on the PC monitor. At the end of the experiment is an evaluation of the measurements and put comments on the results obtained. This project proposses a method for the early detection of the driver´s perception when sighting barriers (pedestrian) using the electrophysiological examination method – the electroretinography (ERG). In this dissertation,the initial measurements were carried out using this method, when during the measurement was unfortunately found that the sensitivity of the method does not allow resolution changes of the electrical potential for so little intense stimuli such as the sight of pedestrians at the edge of the road. But it is not excluded that in the future the further development of the ophthalmological diagnostic method will increase the sensitivity so it will allow to spot the objective moment of registration the obstacle by the viusal organ Advisors/Committee Members: Bradáč, Albert (advisor), Kropáč, František (referee), Drahotský, Ivo (referee), Ptáček, Petr (referee).

▼ The purpose of this paper is to examine how the target to convert the Swedish military aviation industry towards working within the civilian sector was planned and implemented parallel to the target of building a world-class military aircraft. A number of Government bills have been studied, bills directly connected to the JAS-project as well as bills dealing with civilian project ́s for the military aviation industry. The first group includes bills dealing with the JAS-project ́s role in the overarcing defence policy, as well as the Government ́s bill specifying the guidelines for the JAS-project. The other group includes five bills regarding Government funding for civilian projects supporting the military aviation industry ́s transition from the military to the civilian market. The paper shows that the double targets of the JAS-project were separated early on into two simultaneous processes. While the target of developing and producing a new military aircraft was placed within the JAS-project, the target of converting the military aviation industry for the civilian market was directed toward a number of government-supported civilian projects. These civilian projects were based and dependent on cooperation deals between the Swedish aviation industry (Saab aviation and Volvo flygmotor) and two of their American counterparts (Fairchild Industries and General Electric Company). This paper points to the Government having an ambition for the civilian projects to create the base for a stable Swedish civilian aviation industry to which the personnel from the military side of the aviation industry could be transferred once their work on the JAS-project was done. Unfortunately, with the cancellation and changes of the deals with the American aviation industy during the 1980 ́s and the decison by Saab aviation to stop production of commercial aircrafts in 1999, the Government ́s vision of a civilian aviation industry could not be realised. As no Swedish civilian aviation industry had been established the personnel from the development side of the JAS-project would have nowhere to be transferred to (after their part in the project was done). While the Governments target with converting of the aviation industy to save the industries knowledge and expertise was fulfilled in the short term, the ambition to spread this knowledge and expertise to other parts of the Swedish industry and thus make the aviation industry a driving force for the development of Swedish technology industry were not realised.

En viktig del av en nations säkerhetspolitiska ambition handlar om att skaffa sig handlingsutrymme. Detta görs genomen orkestrering av nationens olika maktmedel. På militärstrategisk nivå skapar en samordning av politisk målsättning,doktriner och resurser en samlad nettoeffekt, vilken utgör nationens möjliga militära strategi.Efter att det kalla kriget upphört har stora förändringar i den säkerhetspolitiska miljön för bland annat Sverige ägtrum. Sverige har därför förändrat sin säkerhetspolitiska utformning och Försvarsmakten och dess luftstridskrafter harföljt efter. Det svenska flygsystemet skall idag exempelvis kunna användas i av NATO eller EU ledda fredsframtvingandeoperationer. Det förband som Sverige anmält till EU: s registerförband benämns SwAFRAP JAS 39. Dettaförband skall vid en internationell operation nyttja flygplanet JAS 39A, ett flygsystem som ursprungligen är framtagetmot den gamla säkerhetspolitiska kontexten. Uppsatsens problem är följande: Klarar JAS 39 systemet, trots attdet ursprungligen är projekterat mot den gamla säkerhetspolitiska utformningen, att uppfylla de krav som den nyasäkerhetspolitiska utformningen ställer? Frågeställningen besvaras genom att de uppgifter ett flygsystem kan få viden internationell operation granskas via fem olika kriterier.De viktigaste slutsatserna är att JAS 39A i sin nuvarande skepnad har brister på flera områden. Bland annat saknassambandsmedel som är kompatibla med tänkta allierade. Dessutom finns brister hos VMS- och IFF-systemen. Devapensystem som är avsedda för markmålsbekämpning har i vissa fall brister då det gäller precision, förmåga tillgraderad verkan och allvädersförmåga. Då möjlighet till lufttankning saknas är räckvidden och uthålligheten begränsande.Detta kompenseras dock till viss del av möjligheten att bära extratankar. Systemet har dessutom vissa förmågorsom i den nya säkerhetspolitiska utformningen inte är efterfrågade. Systemet har dock mycket stor utvecklingspotentialoch möjligheten att anpassa systemet till den nya säkerhetspolitiska utformningen är troligen god.

Karaktären på krig har genom historien förändrats. Andelen konventionella krig har de sista 25åren utgjort mindre än en tiondel av det totala antalet väpnade konflikter globalt. Ettsamlingsbegrepp som inkluderar bl.a. terrorism, uppror, terrorismbekämpning ochupprorsbekämpning är irregular warfare. De internationella insatser som svenska förband kankomma att utföra kommer till del att vara i konflikter som har formen av irregular warfare.Syftet med uppsatsen har varit att ur ett förmågeperspektiv undersöka vilken användbarhetJAS 39C/D-systemet kan anses ha vid insatser som har formen av irregular warfare och vadsom kan utvecklas för att höja användbarheten. För att uppnå syftet har en teoretiskkonstruktion och metod som grundats på affärsidésynsättet använts. Denna teori användsnormalt för att uppskatta effektiviteten i företag och organisationer. Med hjälp av dennateoretiska konstruktion och metod har JAS 39C/D-systemets användbarhet i irregular warfareanalyserats.Resultatet i uppsatsen visar att JAS 39C/D-systemet har god användbarhet i irregular warfare.JAS 39C/D-systemet kan bistå med de flesta av de förmågor som efterfrågas av stridsflygplani irregular warfare men det finns brister i form av begränsad vapenlast, kort aktionstid utanlufttankning samt avsaknad av länksysystem för flygplan och sensorer. Resurser i form avövningar och utbildning stöder till del de förmågor som efterfrågas. Under den formellaflygutbildningen bör mer utbildning som stöder de efterfrågade förmågorna och samverkansamt samövning med markofficerare i samma utbildningssteg införas. För att nå ochupprätthålla förmågan till lufttankning bör det satsas mer på resurser i form av utbildning ochövning.

The character of wars has changed throughout history. The proportion of conventional wars forthe last 25 years has constituted for less than a tenth of the total number of armed conflicts inthe world. A concept that includes, but is not limited to terrorism, insurgency, counterterrorismand counterinsurgency is irregular warfare. The combined military effort that Swedish unitsmay perform in the future will in part be in conflicts that have the form of irregular warfare.The purpose of this essay is to examine the utility of the JAS 39C/D system in irregularwarfare from a capability perspective and to see what can be developed in order to increase theutility. Diskussionerna om att ersätta flygplan 37 ”Viggen” startade 1980, mitt under det kalla kriget. Det nya flygplanssystemet skulle ha förmåga att kunna verka i de tre rollerna, jakt, attack och spaning. Efter utvärderingar och studier beslutade man 1982 att ”Viggen” systemet skulle ersättas med ett svenskt JAS 39 system. Efter detta har dramatiska förändringar skett i Europa i och med det kalla krigets slut. Syftet med denna uppsats är att se hur JAS 39 systemet kan möta de nya framtida kraven och hur JAS 39 på bästa sätt kan nyttjas inom ramen för RMA-konceptet. Metoden som använts i uppsatsen är abduktion. Detta genom att med dagens kända fakta genom slutledning försöka komma fram till hur väl systemet möter framtidens krav. För att förklara flygplanssystemets ingående delar har systemteorin nyttjats genom att det övergripande systemet JAS 39 delats upp i de ingående delsystemen; flygplan-, vapen-, sensor-, kommunikations- och ledningssystem. Resultatet av studien visar att JAS 39 väl möter de krav som RMA-konceptet ställer. Avseende information och omvärldsuppfattning kan JAS 39 spela en viktig roll men förmågan att överföra information i nära realtid till marken måste utvecklas ytterligare. Rörande ledning med beslutsstöd kan JAS 39 väl nyttjas för ledning av andra flygplan ingående i förbandet emedan förmågan att nyttja JAS 39 för ledning av andra förband kräver fortsatt utredning. Vid genomförandet av väpnad insats kan JAS 39 väl nyttjas och denna förmåga kommer att bli ytterligare förbättrad genom införandet av laserstyrd bomb och långräckviddigt vapen för precisionsbekämpning.

How can the Swedish JAS 39 “Gripen” be used in the emerging revolution in military affairs (RMA) – an evaluation. The discussions to replace the 37 “Viggen” aircraft system started in the middle of the “Cold War” in 1980. The new aircraft system should have the ability to function in the three roles; intercept, attack and reconnaissance. After evaluations and studies the decision was made in 1982 to replace the “Viggen” system with a new Swedish JAS 39 system but, thereafter, dramatic change took place in Europe with the end of the Cold War and the fall of the Berlin wall. The purpose of this essay is to see how well the JAS 39 system can meet the future demands and how the JAS 39 system best can be used within the future RMA-concept. The method that has been used in the work is abduction. This has been used in order to find out how the JAS 39 can best be used in a future conflict scenario by using today’s known facts. The theory that has been used in the essay is the system theory. The overall JAS 39 system has been divided into the subsystems; aircraft-, weapon-, sensor-, communication- and command and control-systems. The result of the work is confirmation that the JAS 39 meets the future demands well. In the information role, the JAS 39 can play a key role; however, the ability to transfer data from the aircraft to the ground-based organisation must be further developed.
