▼ Antonin Artaud described theater as a way to penetrate the audience’s subconscious causing a transformation within them through visceral experience of
space and performance. He suggested that
space should no longer be experienced rationally but rather experienced through action, senses, and emotion. This creates a chasm between the classical description of
space and that of a
space which is alternative. In this chasm a new description can be provided to describe the
space of emotion, senses, and performance. This alternative description of
space is Hierophanic architecture; a manifestation of architectural presence, although not tangible, it can be felt. As this presence is manifested, a sacred or numinous quality is associated with said presence. Mircea Eliade suggests that when sacredness is revealed, the
space becomes qualitatively different from the
space surrounding it. Operating in the threshold between architecture and performance allows for there to be a less descriptive notion of architecture capturing the narrative of performance, creating, not an ideal
space, but a
space of the ‘other’ able to constantly conform to our bodies and sensations. Hierophanic architecture attempts to transcend both body and matter.

▼ What and how will we define the role of an architect in the interdisciplinary industry, the Space Industry? This thesis is not solving a particular problem by any means, but it’s an investigation to understanding the value an architect can bring to the Space Industry. This value is investigated through the design and study of building materials, and the psychological influence confined and extreme environments have on people. Architects design environments that affect the physical and psychological well-being of individuals; these spaces shape the way we feel, think and behave. It’s a significant role that will add a valuable contribution to the process of creating the new world on Mars.

▼ The purpose of this thesis is to explore the relationship between witches and people and its spatial politics in four early modern English plays. The construction of witchâs image is closely related with the alterations of religions, politics, and social-economy. Who cannot be accordance with the social norms could be accused with practicing witchcraft. It can be seen that the witch, which symbolizes as disorderliness at that time, has conflicts with other characters and also contradicts with the social norms which further influence, not only theirs but othersâ
space and body
space within the plays. Along with other researchersâ social-cultural research, I utilize textual analysis to see the social implications behinds lines.
In chapter one I discuss how Edmontonâs residentsâ opinion on others influences the construction of social phenomenon. By mutual monitoring and gossiping everyone is judged and categorized. The female protagonist of The Witch of Edmonton Mother Sawyer is the victim of this mechanism. Her witch-like behaviors is the cause of her
space being oppressed. In chapter two, I want to discuss how Mrs. Generous and her witches utilize the witch identity to disorder ethics and society, fulfill personal desire, and raise fear and panic within the community in The Witches of Lancashire. How Lancashire community disengages from witchesâ disorderliness is another discussion point. In Chapter three I will focuses on the disordered images witches and witch-like women represent and the performance of violating social norms in The Tragedy of Sophonisba and The Witch.
Take the social changes at that time into consideration, the conflict between witches and the public is unavoidable. Therefore, in conclusion, on the one hand, since literature reflects the contemporary society, I suggest that through the study of texts, the description of fear and villainy to witches and witchcraft is the reflection of peopleâs opinion about whom fails to accord with the social norms at that time. On the other hand, although these plays are long-popular, they call attention to the issue of marginalized groups and their position in the society nowadays.

▼ Only two Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) countries have ratified the International Criminal Court (ICC) Statute, and this number is unlikely to change dramatically in the near future. This research thus considers how international criminal justice (ICrimJ) can be advanced through the regionalisation of international criminal law (ICL), whilst also serving the interests of ASEAN Member States. The theoretical appeal, practical viability, and political acceptability of regional ICrimJ mechanisms are accordingly examined. Given that the establishment of the ICC has challenged the absolute sovereignty of States over the prosecution of international crimes, regional initiatives have added political allure as they not only better reflect local legal norms and political considerations, but also place the selection of ‘regional crimes’ and enforcement measures primarily in the hands of regional countries. In recognition of the 'ASEAN way' of making decisions, regional initiatives to further ICrimJ in Southeast Asia should be implemented gradually and driven internally through consultation and consensus. Moreover, to achieve the overarching ASEAN goal of maintaining regional peace and security, the modalities and practical effects of ICrimJ may require greater emphasis on deterrence and reconciliation, instead of punishment. The prospect and efficacy of a regional ICrimJ mechanism however also depends, inter alia, on the availability of institutional infrastructure and resources, and will understandably differ between regions. Nevertheless, some general conclusions about the value and attractiveness of a regional approach to ICrimJ can be drawn. Despite variations on what may constitute justice in different geographic areas, these generalisations are useful because they reveal the incentives and favourable conditions for efforts at the regional level. The research therefore proffers a basic framework to assess the costs and benefits of regional solutions against domestic or international methods of enforcing ICL, and determine which may best serve ICrimJ in each unique situation and circumstance.

▼ This is a thesis about the applicability of the jus in bello to armed conflicts involving non-state armed groups. The thesis focuses on the thresholds of applicability. These are the definitions of actors and situations that activate the applicability of the jus in bello. The aim is to illuminate and critique the regulatory rationales behind the different definitions of actors and situations in the different thresholds. The evolution of the thresholds is reviewed chronologically. Accordingly, the enquiry ranges from the 19th century doctrines of recognition of belligerency and insurgency, through common article 3 and Additional Protocols I and II, to the law developed by the ICTY and included in the Rome Statute for the International Criminal Court. While the thresholds constitute the centre of the enquiry, their meaning and function are further elucidated by the analysis of the process of their assessment, as well as the extent of the substantive legal regime they activate. The central question of the thesis is whether there has been a gradual shift from a status-based rationale to one focused on the humanitarian protection of individuals, in the evolution of the thresholds of applicability. A status-based rationale fits with a system of horizontal regulation of state-like collective entities and allows considerations and perceptions of the ascription of status through legal regulation to determine the threshold of applicability. A humanitarian-protection rationale is more related to a system of vertical regulation irrespective of status and links the applicability of the law to the individual and her protection. The argument proposed is that such a gradual shift is indeed visible, if tempered by the continuous role that considerations of status have in conflict situations and the still largely decentralised system of assessment of the applicability of the law.

▼ The United Nations was established in the belief that working together states could curb the use of force and the damage to states and individuals associated with it. Upon its creation the United Nations Security Council became the global policeman enforcing the rules of the Charter aided by the weapons contained in Chapter V11. One of those weapons was the recourse to economic sanctions. In theory, if the economic lifeblood of a state is cut off it will be forced to modify its behaviour without the need for military intervention. As such, economic sanctions are an attractive resource for an institution seeking to avoid recourse to the use of force. In practice, however, economic sanctions have proven to be a complex tool, which have caused significant damage to those targeted by them. They have caused significant humanitarian difficulties, have been widely breached and have, in some instances, only served as a prelude to the use of force. Literature in this field to date has concentrated on single sanctions regimes or particular aspects of sanctions. It has, therefore, failed to get to the heart of the issue, which is: what has caused these problems, are they being appropriately addressed and how should they be resolved going forward. This thesis focuses on these issues. By tracing the development of economic sanctions from the establishment of the United Nations to date it offers a unique perspective on how they have evolved. It uses case studies and illustrative examples supported by a wide range of legal, political, historical and economic material to show the context in which economic sanctions are taken. It also critically analyses the difficulties that have arisen with sanctions regimes and the attempts that have been made to resolve them. Aligned to the consideration of economic sanctions is a reflection on the extent to which the power of the United Nations Security Council has developed during this time period. It suggests that the United Nations use of economic sanctions, in light of recent judicial decisions, is under threat and offers a solution in the form of a proposal for two new institutions, which would support the United Nations in its use of economic sanctions.

▼ This thesis addresses the legitimacy discourse of the ad-hoc International Criminal Tribunal for the Former Yugoslavia, by focusing on a particular case study: the Interlocutory Motion challenging the jurisdiction of the Tribunal in the Dusko Tadi6 case. This, the first ever International Criminal Tribunal established by the United Nations Security Council, faced in the initial proceedings with the first indictee to be present in the Chambers a challenge as to the lawfulness of its own establishment, and therefore as to its legitimacy. The lack of historical precedents for this novel jurisdiction, and the context of the more multicultural-driven international relations of the 1990s, that is, because of the collapse of the superpowers and the temporary suspension of the logic of a bipolar world, were all expected to validate a complex discourse of legitimacy, namely, through recourse to extra-legal references. In fact, the acceptance, and therefore the legitimacy, of the new jurisdiction depended on the recognition of a shared historical, cultural and political context, or, at least, of recognizable politicocultural references beyond the legalistic self-contained judicial speech. After extensively reviewing the initial materials of the challenge presented before the court, the thesis focuses its research on the Tribunal's Decisions, both at Trial and Appeal levels, identifying the attempts to break a self-referential legal discourse. The uncertainty of the historical moment, together with the hesitation on the use of politico-cultural references on the part of the Tribunal, sustains the conclusion of this thesis that no coherent legitimacy discourse is here attained.

Facing the actual architecture panorama this theoretical essay tries to clarify bath architectural space notions as well as to envision these same notions into the present architecture practice.
lt is known that the theme of spatiality has always been present on architecture's history, and even our development of "spatial notion" has been defined as an essential part in the evolution of architecture. But it is only amidst the late XIX century and the beginning of the XX century that the concept of space becomes the "essence of architecture", clearly exposing the relevance of investigation and the comprehension of this field as an architecture subject.
Due the complexity of the addressed theme we propose that the investigation should be treated in a similar way to the three cycles of culture history found in Siegfried Giedion's theory. ln this case, this investigation also follows three fundamental moments, tram the history of space, being these classical space, space of the modem movement and contemporary space.

This thesis presents itself as an archaeological excavation consisting of the dissection of the object in our present society from a plastic realization. Indeed this thesis is articulated around an artistic practice. It is this practice that has determined the fields of research to be followed. The protocol of this installation consists, initially, in asking women artists to lend me an object from their daily lives and for which they have nourished a particular need or attachment, so that this object becomes a mirror capable To reflect their personality. In a second step, I film a testimony given to me by these same people about the chosen object, and in which they justify their choice by specifying the nature of the bond that unites them to it. Then, these objects are molded by me. In this sense, this process of presenting only their moldings and not those objects as they are, helps to make the intimacy represented by these objects, and to make these symbols of the daily life of each of the protagonists, and thus , Actors or rather actors of our modern society, materials devoted to a certain forgetfulness, except to consider them by the yardstick of an archeology of the present. This is how I take the side of objects. A theoretical and practical bias. In the sense that I place myself on the side of objects to observe the world, a bias that translates an argued opinion of the object in all its states: the object in art, the…

▼ A city is not a single entity. It is a vast collection of intimate narratives, crisscrossing and connecting in an ever-changing tapestry of movement and activity. Supporting this colourful and complex ecosystem in the most effective way is an ongoing challenge for governments, planners and architects. An approach which can be seen in recent urban developments around the globe has been to impose a single, overarching narrative on a city centre, in the hope that it will compel the many individual narratives to align with the master plan. Some critics describe this as a ‘theme park’ approach, encouraging uniformity rather than supporting a diversity of intimate and daily activities. The research challenges the veracity of the theme park approach to city centre development and proposes an alternative 'open' architectural approach that encourages countless personal narratives to flourish. 'Open' architecture approaches have been tested by Modernist architects such as Herman Hertzberger to allow people to interpretative and appropriate objects and buildings in accordance with their individual social and cultural needs. This project builds upon the use of 'open' architecture techniques not only in the design but also the process of design. To create a collaborative research and design process, this research has been produced through collective research, workshops, exhibitions, design competitions and collective investigations. This collaborative process ensures the proposed design intervention is underpinned by a broad and deep set of values, strong enough to support the city’s multitude of everyday intimate narratives. This research demonstrates the value of a collective approach utilising collaboration and interpretation in concepts such as 'open' architecture. It has pushed the academic framework past research and education and into the realms of valorisation, testing the project within the public realm, through collaboration and collective feedback.

The central theme of this thesis is based on the conflicting and contradictory process of the production of the space of Belo Horizonte in the light of the paradigm of modernity. In the late nineteenth century, the new capital of Minas is idealized to represent a modern spatiality, different from the old colonial image of Ouro Preto. The former Arraial de Belo Horizonte was destroyed so that the new republican city was produced. Aarão Reis, the engineer responsible for the idealization of the capital, reveals, through the urban layout, a significant influence of the modern urbanistic present in European cities. Therefore, the project of the republican capital reveals socio-spatial legacies of a past modernity that are reinserted in the city through new uses and appropriations. The city management of Juscelino Kubitschek…

▼ This essay explores the power dynamics embedded in the construction and perception of spatial environments in the novel The House on Mango Street by Sandra Cisneros. With the help of Henri Lefebvre’s theory of space as a socially constructed phenomenon and practice, this essay argues that the characters’ experience and perception of spaces in the novel including the house and the street are entangled with the dominating forces related to gender, identity and patriarchy in the surrounding society. The essay also argues that the novel apart from revealing these power dynamics, also, through its protagonist Esperanza suggests a new kind of space, an alternative and more just space for the individual and the community. Additionally, this essay also discusses and elaborates on the pedagogical implications of using the novel with a focus on space for upper secondary students. An investigation of how individual and social spaces functions in different ways in the novel provides valuable opportunities for teachers and students to reflect and discuss power relations, social injustices and inequities in their community, and allow them, as the protagonist Esperanza, to imagine alternative and more just spaces.

In this study we analyzed some factors that we consider important for the formation of a city called Seberi-RS. We started from the estimative that Seberi was an area of delayed occupation inside Rio Grande do Sul State, through this way, we tried to understand the reasons that turned the portion north of the city Palmeira das Missões into one of the last available land reserves for the settling project of the State. We looked for understanding the reasons that had provided the valuation of this space, attracting groups of immigrants from other regions of the state and the important performance of the State through the Land Commission and Settling of Palmeira. Who, during a period about 30 years, had transformed the hinterland Palmeira in one of the areas of bigger demographic density of Rio Grande do Sul. This dynamics population finished favoring the local economy and influencing the formation of groups of people operating in each one of the headquarters districts. For us to understand the formation of Seberi, we rescue important historical aspects on
the agents/actors who, organizing themselves, had visualized the possibility to search a greater autonomy for the development of its economic activities through the emancipation of the Seberi district of the headquarter city, Palmeiras das Missões.

▼ This essay analyzes a series of home narratives I gathered in Yüksekova (Gever in Kurdish) district of Hakkari (Colemêrg), a small Kurdish town located on the Iraqi-Turkish border. This essay presents and discusses the ways in which people have been struggling to create, maintain, and talk about their homes during and after a series of violent moments that have marked the local time-
space of Yüksekova over the last century. Drawing an ethnographic picture of survival and home-making practices, I will trace the changing semantics of home and the social/spatial relationships and cultural imaginaries associated with it. To this end, I will focus on home-making in three violent moments in the cultural and political history of the town that are most emphasized in the narratives I gathered: 1) The massacre and deportation of Armenian and other non-Muslim peoples of Hakkari in 1915 that turned the region into a home only for Muslim Kurds 2) the destruction of homes as rural Kurds of Hakkari were displaced as a part of the recent counterinsurgency warfare against Kurdish guerillas; and 3) the struggles of people to make homes in Yüksekova. Informed by a body of literature on
space that defines
space meaningfully only in and through social relations, this paper aims to take an ethnographic look at home as a
space that is situated in human agency and practices and which is open to change as it is shaped and reshaped as part of the dynamism of social, political and daily life.

▼ Two leading theories propose different reasons for men’s and women’s
intimate partner violence (IPV). The gendered theory proposes that society’s patriarchal norms of male dominance and female subordination cause men’s IPV towards women. From this perspective, violence against ‘wives’ is condoned by society, and women only perpetrate IPV in self-defence against men’s primary violence. Conversely, the chivalrous theory of IPV explains women’s IPV perpetration in terms of society’s chivalrous norms, which protect women from male violence and emboldens women to physically assault male partners. From this perspective, women’s violence is not considered harmful to men. As gendered theory and chivalrous theory both reference stereotyped gender attitudes (sexism) towards women, I used the ambivalent sexism inventory (ASI) to test the competing theories efficacy in explaining IPV perpetration by heterosexual men and women. The ASI conceptualises sexist attitudes towards women as comprised of two parts: hostile sexism (reflecting the hostility towards women outlined by gendered theory), and benevolent sexism (reflecting the benevolence towards women outlined by chivalrous theory). Gendered theory states that society condones violence towards women. Thus, men’s attitudes approving of male-perpetrated IPV should mediate the relationship between men’s hostile sexism and IPV, if gendered theory predictions are correct. Alternatively, chivalrous theory poses that society does not approve of violence towards women. Thus, attitudes disapproving of men’s IPV against women and approving of women’s IPV towards men should mediate the relationship between benevolent sexism and IPV if chivalrous theory is correct. I hypothesized men’s increased hostile sexism would predict men’s increased IPV perpetration through increased approval of IPV against women, and men’s increased benevolent sexism would predict men’s decreased IPV perpetration through decreased approval of IPV against women. Further, I hypothesised that women’s increased hostile sexism would predict women’s increased IPV perpetration through increased approval of IPV against men, and women’s benevolent sexism would predict increased IPV perpetration through increased approval of IPV against men. North American men and women (N = 688) filled out an online questionnaire measuring experiences of IPV as victims and/or perpetrators, approval of male and female IPV perpetration, and hostile and benevolent sexism. Multi-group structural equation modelling tested the extent to which positive attitudes toward
intimate partner violence mediated the association between sexism and IPV perpetration for men and for women. Results found that, for both men and women, increased hostile sexism predicted greater IPV perpetration through greater approval of men’s IPV against women. Furthermore, increased benevolent sexism predicted women’s increased IPV perpetration through increased approval of men’s IPV against women. Men’s increased benevolent sexism did not predict men’s lower IPV perpetration…

▼ In contemporary society temporalities in different scales coexist, cooperate and collide.
Clock time serves as a main reference for time, although a lot of processes have nothing to
do with clock time and can’t be measured by its scales. One of the dissertation’s points of
departure is that temporal narratives is a key factor for affecting how people act and think,
and therefore there is a need for visualizations, conceptual figurations and cognitive
objects for complex forms of time. The dissertation evolves around art works,
visualizations and theories that deal with today’s multiple temporal forms and narratives.
One of the questions the dissertation sets out to answer concerns how temporality is
visualized in contemporary art and visualizations. It also aims to demonstrate the
relevance of visual studies in the new field of environmental humanities. A number of
temporal concepts are explored in relation to art works. One such concept is heterochrony,
a term referring to a multifaceted temporality, that art theorist Nicolas Bourriaud claims is
common in contemporary art. Another is timescapes, a term for an entangled temporality,
described by sociologist Barbara Adam, and chronoscopy coined by philosopher Paul
Virilio, referring to an extremely short-termed perspective. Space of flows and space of places
are concepts formulated by sociologist Manuel Castells, denoting the spatiotemporal
logics that have emerged in the network society, where citizens simultaneousley can exist
in physical and virtual spacetimes. Also two concepts for a vast time span are discussed:
anthropocene, a suggested new geological era, and the long now, a perspective formulated
by the artist and musician Brian Eno. One conclusion is that complex and sensous
understandings of temporality can be accomplished through art works and visualizations.
Artistic expressions have the potential to inspire, worry and affect viewers and produce
narratives of the multiple temporalities embedded in climate changes. Multiple forms of
temporality can be found in the discussed works, and the narratives that emerge are
entangled and heterogenous and speak of heterochrony, chronoscopy, and anthropocene,
that is, of temporal forms that cannot easily be related to a human lifetime or to everyday
understandings of time.
Subjects/Keywords: temporality; heterochrony; chronoscopy; anthropocene; the long now; timescapes; space of flows; space of places; environmental humanities.

▼ University of Washington Abstract A SHAM DELIGHT HAS NO EXCHANGE VALUE Henri Lefebvre and the evolution of Bernard Tschumi’s early architectural theory Britt Bandel Jeske Chair of the Supervisory Committee: Associate Professor and Department Chair Brian L. McLaren, Ph.D. Architecture This thesis argues that many of Tschumi’s theories were proposed in response to Lefebvre’s analysis of cities and his critique of the architecture profession. Throughout the seventies Tschumi strove to extricate Architecture from its ties to capitalism and its perceived complicity in reinforcing problematic political and social structures. The architect’s first published articles establish Lefebvre as a key influence upon his principles and ideology, and the architectural theory that followed these initial essays enters into a dialogue with Lefebvre’s critique of architects. In the ultimate testimony of Lefebvre’s influence, Tschumi directly transposes the philosopher’s ideas into his own theories on
space. Several scholars have analyzed the direction Tschumi’s work takes after 1975, specifically the influence of French post-structural theorists, including Georges Bataille, Roland Barthes, and Jacques Derrida. These textual analyses largely reduce the Lefebvrian undertones of Tschumi’s work to a historical footnote, when, as this thesis will demonstrate, Lefebvre’s influence was both formative and deeply impactful. Given that themes from Tschumi’s writings in the early seventies frequently appear in his later more widely known work, it is argued here that Lefebvre’s influence had a lasting impact over the course of Tschumi’s career. Ultimately the initially politically charged call for revolutionary action, inspired by Lefebvre, evolves, producing theories that call for an autonomous architecture distanced from capitalist modes of production.

▼ The theme of the dissertation titled the Centre of Sport and Leisure Time in Brno is a design of a relaxing and sport site „Centrum Lužánky“. The
subject of this project is architectonic-city-planning study, which deals with elaborating a concept of a sport centre behind Lužánky in Brno-Ponava. This dissertation contains details of the facility and the area of the current swimming pool Lužánky. The current state of the facility built in 1979 doesn’t meet requirements of visitors and sportsmen anymore. The main aim of this project is the reconstruction of the current fifty-meter swimming pool, a design of a new swimming pool placed under the ground floor of the current building, which will provide
space for organizing international competitions, trainings of professional sportsmen, etc. At the same time the busyness of the current swimming pools would be lowered by building a new indoor and outdoor waterpark, especially for the group of recreational visitors. The attractiveness of the facility will be increased by the newly designed park relaxing area and proposed multipurpose area, used as a sports field in the summer and as an ice ring in the winter. Additional value of the facility is comprised by an indoor and outdoor café and large relaxing area on the roof of the waterpark. The whole area increases the community facility availability by a proposed wide range of services for health, relax and sport. The advantage of the whole concept is the mutual connection of all facilities. The entrance to the area is shortened by a designed pedestrian bridge, accessible from the south and north busy areas. The whole project is enhanced by increased number of new parking places, located particularly along the access road, the street Sportovní, going through a green zone. The road and parking places are proposed in the design of residential streets, respecting walking pedestrians. The area has a very rich sport history, which is dated back to 1922. ▼ This exegesis and the practice-led research (paintings) investigate the characteristics of a transnational art practice. The exegesis examines significant aspects of hybridity aesthetics and ‘transnationalism’. It focuses on two places and two cultures – Libya, my old home, and Australia my new one. This practice-led research project turns on my own art, practice, concept, materials and techniques as a transnational artist working in Australia. My temporary migration to Australia has resulted in strong attachments to my new home city of Melbourne. This has impacted powerfully on my personal identity. To summarise, this project engages with notions of place and space, with my own belonging in the context of the relevant literature, and with contemporary art practice. Objectives: To approach closely the perception of space, place and the reconstruction of identity within a transnational framework, and to address issues regarding the conceptualization and the transformation of home and belonging, from a migrant perspective and as a displaced artist. To find a new path by using an appropriate method in order to produce a body of original painting that utilizes and revitalizes the historical and traditional aspects of cultural expression to create a correlation between personal identity and Australian influences, reinforcing the idea of being a transnational artist in Melbourne. Beyond the project’s aims and objectives, there is an attempt see how close the boundaries can be possibly met. Ultimately, there are multiple entry points into the new meanings achieved through new visual and transformative, metaphors and conceptual frameworks, in order to work predominantly with text, while playing conceptually with cultural boundaries. Research questions: Can we ever leave home? If we can do so, can we escape from the past? If so, what kind of concern should we give to notions of ‘elsewhere’? And can we develop new achievement elsewhere? (Al – Ali & Koser, 2002) In doing so, in what ways can I use my identity construction themes to incorporate powerful integration between ‘over here’ - Australia as my temporary migration place - and "over there†my homeland Libya, in the context of contemporary art? Conclusion: Throughout this thesis I have framed issues involving how I might re-work concepts and theories through further interrogation of practical artworks. In doing so, I have engaged with several terms, which have been taken literally from established disciplines, such as theory, psychology, sociology, literature and art. Significantly, I refer to my own experience and its attempts to make connections beyond Nationalism. This thesis explore cross - issues in art, concerned with terms such as hybridity, fluidity, transnationalism and belonging in order to adopt the structuring values of the emergence of transnational art practice. Keywords The chapters of this exegesis share certain features with the ongoing debates on cross-cultural issues such as key areas of theory, the dilemma of…

▼ This thesis examines how the architecture of the various sacred traditions, all manifest in their built expressions a universal symbolic content, while at the same time being absolutely unique in their own inherent particular spiritual dispensation. One major aspect of this symbolic content is the embedding of the three-dimensional cross in its various modes within their built arrangements. The correlation between the three dimensions of
space and the metaphysical symbolism of the cross was the
subject of a short but important work by the French traditional metaphysician Rene Guenon titled Symbolism of the Cross (Le Symbolisme de Ia Croix). In describing the purpose of the work Guenon wrote that it was 'to explain a symbol that is common to almost all traditions, a fact that would seem to indicate its direct attachment to the great primordial tradition'. While several authors on sacred architecture acknowledge the importance of Guenon's work, it has generally been applied only in limited considerations and to particular traditions. However, there remains many levels to this work that require further general elaboration and exploration.Guenon uses the symbolic potential of three-dimensional
space as a coherent and indispensable means of developing traditional metaphysics. An hermeneutic exploration and study of Guenon's Symbolism of the Cross, allows insights into various aspects of all sacred architecture, even when the tradition is unfamiliar. Equally, exploring various themes related to spatial symbolism in sacred architecture can give insights into the interpretative reading of Symbolism of the Cross.

Under the influence of the competitors between the U.S.A. and U.S.S.R. in the field of military prowess, China started its development of
space technology in 1956. After 50 years passed, Chain has become a nation of potential
space warfare. Its prowess in
space warfare is found on its advanced and firmly established
space science and technology. Following the U.S.A. and the U.S.S.R. China has build up its
space army which aims at seizing the dominion of the future
space warfare. Evidently, every great nation, for the purposes of gaining supreme authority in the warfare in this century, has fully engaged in building up its prowess in the command of the
space.
This essay aims at study Chinaâs development in

▼ The chapel of the former boromeian closter in Teplice is an important example of the work of monastery art school of benedictins of Beuron. The closter, today the building of the high school of Teplice, was built on the place of former city walls, connected by a prestigeous bouleward with the city center. Today, the building is surrounded by a non-valuable buildings, the bouleward is full of transport during the whole day and near is a highway. The old architectural structure was mainly destroyed and replaced by block of flats made of concrete. The topic ic getting the life back into the building and connect the building back into the public
space, to join the "public=city" with the "private=school". The topic is to gain back the dignity and certain monumentality. The topic is to create the
space for school activities, workschops, meetings, exhibitions, happenings, and last, but not least, weddings. The high school students should be the future intelectual elity of the
space and newly reconstructed
space may has the power to reinforce their linkage with the place, which can possibly mean they will search for a job in Teplice after their university studies. I belive, that the architecture has the power to attach the people to the
space and to establish the genius loci. And such an opening of the
space deserve the gymnasium and the chapel (which is not known to the public in Teplice) 20 years after the Velvet revolution, which itselves, was an opening of the
space on the level of politics.

▼ The United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC) is the most widely signed and ratified human rights treaty in history. The Convention is law in the nearly two hundred countries that have ratified it including Canada and India. This project is an ethnography exploring the effectiveness of the text of the CRC in two contexts, one which is largely structured by text (Canada) and one which is not (India). To map, in depth, the top-down social relations of the CRC the author provides rich descriptions of her fieldwork in the Punjabi village of Butala and the Canadian city of Brampton. Using the new sociology of childhood as a conceptual framework, the author argues that the CRC is inherently flawed because it is in text and can therefore only create change in environments mediated by text.

This research project report of the Master's degree in Pre-School Education focuses on the organization of spaces and materials in nursery and kindergarten contexts, focusing on how rooms are organized and structured for appropriate involvement of children in contexts.
In order to develop the present work, I performed four stages of the internship, the first one in the nursery, the second in the kindergarten, and in the last two I returned to the same institutions in order to complete the research regarding the interventions developed.
For the realization of this project I turned to qualitative research by developing an action-research methodology.
In order to develop my work, I observed the organization of the rooms, the materials and structures of the spaces, understanding the needs in order to be able to intervene. In the nursery due to the age of the children, my interventions focused essentially on the reorganization of the room, implementing materials with sensorial characteristics. With regard to kindergarten through intervention, it focused on the reorganization of the "Library Area" with the active participation of children.
It was essential to use different procedures for collecting information and documentary analysis.

This study focuses on researching the concept of working in an open space in the new Oporto’s headquarters of the company Energias de Portugal - SA, given the strategy implemented and the results achieved.
For this, we dissected the assumptions presented to workers at the inauguration

▼ This investigation explores the different ways in which the image space of digital video can be articulated through the body, materials and blue screen technology.
My practice-led research explores possibilities of presenting multiple relationships of the imagination and emergent potential for the human body in its interaction with video, digital technologies and tangible objects.
Through a process based and speculative approach I create improvised performances with objects, which I further explore with the digital medium. In my written dissertation, I investigate the image space and blue screen technology through an embodied and phenomenological approach. Building on the theories of Maurice Merleau-Ponty, Erin Manning, Gilles Deleuze and Laura Marks, I argue that methods of digital compositing have the potential to create a haptic and tactile understanding of the moving image, drawing attention to the materiality of digital video and to the body, while offering new possibilities for interacting with blue screen technology through play and poetic strategies.
My thesis accompanies five video works, presented as an immersive video installation. The works document my improvised performances in the blue screen studio and give tangible form to my interactions with the technology. My video performances articulate the image space through the human body and explore to what extend tangible and virtual experiences of materiality, the body and media specific processes can be represented in video performance.
Subjects/Keywords: video art; blue screen technology; video performance; Deleuze; Merleau-Ponty, compositing; screen space; heuristic research; poetics of the screen space

▼ In April 2015, more than one thousand people died
while crossing the Mediterranean to reach Europe. The large numbers
of people losing their lives turned this issue into a highly
mediatized topic, which received the label “crisis.” These numbers
became the center of a political and media debate in which
displaced people were predominantly underrepresented and
misrepresented. This thesis is an ethnographic account that
attempts to paint a more humanistic picture of the so-called
“European refugee crisis.” The work is composed of seven
intimate
ethnographies that bring into relief the powerful life stories of
particular people who are generally left out of official and media
reports about contemporary migration from the Global South to the
Global North. By focusing on the personal stories of these seven
individuals, this thesis sheds light on the social, historical,
economic, and political dimensions of the contemporary “European
Refugee Crisis” without losing sight of the people most affected by
it. This is both possible and necessary because these
intimate
stories of the particular illustrate the macro histories of
violence, colonialism, and capitalism that have resulted in the
unprecedented global flows of people in the twenty-first
century.

▼ Intimate partner violence (IPV), typically considered in the domestic context, has been shown to have considerable effects on women's employment and health. While the literature has recently grown in this area, very few studies have examined the prevalence of work-related IPV among men. Furthermore, the extant literature on work-related IPV has largely ignored the experience of ethnic minorities, specifically Latinos. Many factors suggest that rates and forms of IPV might be different among other racial and ethnic groups. Some studies that examine IPV among Latinos have sought to understand the role of acculturation and socioeconomic contexts. The purpose of this study was to examine work-related IPV among a sample of men enrolled in batterer intervention programs. In addition, we sought to examine the relationship between acculturation, socioeconomic contexts, and reports of work-related IPV among a subset of male Latinos. Overall, the findings confirm the upper ranges of previous estimates across studies (36% to 75%) of employed victims of IPV and their harassment by abusive partners while at work (Swanberg, Logan, & Macke, 2005; Taylor & Barusch, 2004). Specifically, we found that 60% of the entire sample reported work-related IPV that involved threatening behaviors and physical violence at their partner's job. The findings among Latinos suggest that a positive relationship exists between acculturation and work-related IPV. Specifically, proxy variables of acculturation (e.g., country of birth, language of survey, number of years in the U.S.) were hypothesized to be positively associated with higher levels of acculturation. Consistent with the hypotheses, we found significant relationships in the direction proposed. Lastly, socioeconomic status (e.g., income, education, employment status) was hypothesized to play a moderating role between acculturation and work-related IPV. However, results generally suggest that socioeconomic status (i.e., income, education) did not moderate the relationship between acculturation and work-related IPV. This study makes important contributions to the literature and has implications for employers. The significant rates of work-related IPV found in this study highlight the need to address this problem among employed males as an important step in preventing work-related IPV. Among Latinos, the level of acculturation and factors such as income, employment, and education are important contextual factors that provide a better understanding of IPV in Latino communities (Gryywacz, Rao, Gentry, Marin, & Arcury, 2009).
