▼ E-
learning continues to gain popularity as a way of delivering instruction in the workplace. However, adoption of
e-
learning is often considered without determining organizational readiness for
e-
learning. Comacchio and Scapolan (2004) found that bandwagon pressures such as fear of losing competitive advantage often drive
e-
learning adoption decisions. Many
organizations use various types of analysis to determine instructional need but often at a course level. An
e-
learning readiness analysis tool will add to existing tools but focus on the workplace organization as the unit of study. The purpose of this design and development study is to create an analysis tool for determining
e-
learning readiness in
organizations. Four existing
e-
learning readiness models, Aydin and Tasci (2005); Chapnick (2005); Borotis and Poulymenakou (2005) and Psycharis (2005), were used as a basis for identifying factors affecting
e-
learning readiness which informed the tool design. Using developmental research-based practices the tool was developed for use by practitioners. This study describes the design and development of the tool and the expert review used in the validation of the tool.

▼ This research is concerned with possible applications of e-Learning as an alternative to onsite training sessions when supporting the integration of machine learning into the product development process. Mainly, its aim was to study if e-learning approaches are viable for laying a foundation for making machine learning more accessible in integrated product development processes. This topic presents itself as interesting as advances in the general understanding of it enable better remote learning as well as general scalability of knowledge transfer. To achieve this two groups of employees belonging to the same corporate group but working in two very different geographical regions where asked to participate in a set of training session created by the authors. One group received the content via in-person workshops whereas the other was invited to a series of remote tele-conferences. After both groups had participated in the sessions, some member where asked to be interviewed. Additionally. The authors also arranged for interviews with some of the participants’ direct managers and project leaders to compare the participants’ responses with some stakeholders not participating in the workshops. A combination of a qualitative theoretical analysis together with the interview responses was used as the base for the presented results. Respondents indicated that they preferred the onsite training approach, however, further coding of interview responses showed that there was little difference in the participants ability to obtain knowledge. Interestingly, while results point towards e-learning as a technology with many benefits, it seems as though other shortcomings, mainly concerning the human interaction between learners, may hold back its full potential and thereby hinder its integration into product development processes.

▼ Today's organizations have an important societal responsibility to engage in sustainabledevelopment to ensure that future generations can fulfill their needs. It makes it crucial foremployees, as a central part of the organization, to be involved in the sustainability work toachieve the sustainable development goals. The purpose of this study is to examine howemployees in an organisation experience the sustainability work and what strategies they candistinguish for the sustainability work. We have chosen to investigate this at MAX burgersAB because they are known for their sustainability work. Based on this, four questions havebeen formulated regarding what employees know about what sustainability work consists ofin the organisation, how they experience the sustainability work, what strategies they candistinguish for sustainability work in the organisation and if there is a common perception ofthese strategies. Previous research has shown the importance of implementing sustainabilitywork in the organizational culture and how this is done by practical and theoretical learning. The theoretical framework of this study consists of Schein's (2010) theory of organizationalculture. This case study is based on seven qualitative interviews of employees at differentMAX burgers AB restaurants in Sweden and shows that employees mainly experiencesustainability work through an environmental perspective. The study also shows that theemployees can not distinguish strategies for sustainability work in the organizationthemselves, however the strategies we distinguish are formal education, staff meetings andcertain routines in the performance of work tasks.

▼ Recent literature on race in
organizations discusses
the racial inequalities embedded in organizational structure but
lack an account of how the racialized practices of the field are
reproduced when
organizations form. I develop a new concept, white
normative isomorphism, to understand how racialized practices are
adopted at the foundation of new
organizations. I consider the case
of National Public Radio (NPR), a non-profit media organization.
The legacy of racial segregation in the radio field shaped NPR’s
standards on hiring, technology, and programming. Though at their
surface race-neutral, these standards inhibited the inclusion of
Black voices into NPR’s workforce, station membership, and
programming.

▼ M.Com. (Business Management)
Communication is the focal point of the enterprise. It is central to the control and survival of organisations, and is a prerequisite to effective management. Consequently it can be stated that communication pervades'the total managerial process, integrating the managerial functions and linking the enterprise with its environment. The present study set out to define the concept of communication and to develop a theoretically sound model of organisational communication with the objective of providing a frame of reference for future research. A literature survey was conducted during which the concept of communication was traced from its semantic origins through to contemporary interpretations thereof. A subject as complex as communication is best approached through an in-depth, comprehensive observation from different angles and varying perspectives. The variables in the communication process were discussed, utilising communication models as a theoretical framework. In addition, the role of perception in communication was reviewed. Communication variants and the concepts of enterprise, organisational environment. organisational communication structure. formal and informal communication channels were discussed. This review and subsequent analysis served as the theoretical foundation for conceiving a model of organisational communication. The components of organisational communication are presented in a model of organisational communication. The framework of organisational communication advanced in this model is multidimensional; it presents the concept of communication not as an isolated phenomenon or a singular, purely idealised process, but as interrelated constituent processes that operate at varying levels of complexity. Finally, a comment is made on the actuality of the organisational communication model and a multitude of research opportunities are indicated.

▼ This Practical Attachment report is based on a PA that students carried out at UNZA The report has revealed the various problems that the institution experiences. Inadequate funding from government is the major source of problems. This has resulted into managements failure to meet some of its obligations objectives. Other problems are shortage of teaching staff and accommodation for both members of staff and students. This PA also identified other problems unrelated to funding. Some of these problems were due to organizational / management weaknesses. The members of staff are demotivated and do often exhibit a lackadaisical approach to their work. Above all, there is a lacuna in the institution's internal and external communication, this has led to mistrust of management by the workers. Strikes by all workers and riots by students have been identified as major 'weapons' for getting whatever they want from either management or the government. Strikes and riots have on many occasions led to premature closures. These problems have put UNZA's credibility at stake. Although there are all these problems, effective organisationsal communication can be used to reduce them and change the image of UNZA. A strong organizational and management base can change the operations of the institution. It is for this reason that the students recommended that management should involve all stakeholders/interest groups in the planning of various projects for the University. This should be done at each stage. There should also be smooth flow of information between management and workers, management and students, management and the government and the government and students. All business ventures should be reorganized to run profitably. These can only be achieved through effective organizational communication.

▼ This instrumental case study sought to provide an insight into the "what" and the "how" of the development of future leaders in global organizations. The study explored the experience of participants of a first-level leader development program in a large global organization. The outcomes and the process of leadership development were conceptualized through the lens of Transformative Learning theory and Adult Learning theory (Andragogy). Data analysis consisted of triangulation of data from multiple data sources including individual participant interviews, a focus group interview, interviews with the regional and global program managers, analysis of journal notes from direct observation, and a review of the program and external documentation. The findings indicate that leadership development programs can facilitate transformative experiences for participants leading to an expanded leadership capacity that is demonstrated in individual and in organizational contexts. The findings also suggest that the transformative process involves mutual learning, includes elements of challenge, occurs in a safe environment, allows the participants to practice behaviors in real time, and includes different modes of reflection. The program elements that enable the transformative process include a focus on deep learning, self-directed learning, learning environment that supports relationship building and trust, a cohort format that supports mutual learning, and relevant learning content. In addition to the andragogical assumptions, relational learning was found to be a key variable for the transformative process. The study also provided insight into the global implications for leadership development, suggesting that there is no difference in the outcomes and the learning process globally, but affirming the role of cultural context as a factor of learning. Key words: leadership in global organizations, complexity, leadership development, transformation, transformative learning theory, adult learning, andragogy

▼ In last decade or so, e-learning seems to be emerging as the dominant model of learning but questions are being raised about the trade-offs in switching from traditional classroom based learning to e-learning; for example, e-learning is cost effective, round the clock accessible and convenient but there are questions raised about its quality and effectiveness. In last decade Saudi government has undertaken several steps for reforming the education system in the Kingdom including provision of education for all. E-learning can play a vital role in helping Saudi government reach its ambitious targets but despite its obvious benefits the overall adoption of e-learning in the Kingdom has remained low. The key problem in this regard is lo perceived effectiveness of e-learning. E-learning is quite beneficial in that it can help individuals not only acquire knowledge but also skills which allows them to learn independently without constraints using the vast amount of education resources available online. However, the main focus of the e-learning community in the Kingdom has remained restricted to teaching specific subjects. This research argues that the true potential of e-learning is much broader and useful than currently perceived by the e-learning community in the Kingdom. E-learning has the potential of producing lifelong learners. Hence the focus of e-learning community should be on overall skills development. This research thus defines e-learning effectiveness in terms of both short term goals (that is, learning about the subject) and long term goals (improving skills and motivations for being lifelong and independent learner). This research investigates impact of four kinds of interactivity (Student-Student, Student-teacher, Student-content, Student-System) on effectiveness of e-learning. This is a mixed methods research. Data was collected using focus groups and questionnaire surveys. This research finds that all four kinds of interactivity play a role in improving effectiveness of e -learning All four kinds of interactivities were found significant for improving course learning. Student-teacher, Student-Student and Student-Content interactivities were found critical for improving independent learning skills. Student-Student an Student-Content interactivity was found critical for improving motivation for being lifelong e-learner.

The objective of this study is to present and analyze the processes of individual and group learning that occur in everyday work situations taking place at the reception area of hotels. This research highlights the learning skills in work groups, not forgetting, however, that it depends on the individual learning for effective organizational learning. The research was accomplished using the qualitative case study applied in the reception area of a medium size hotel in the city of Porto Alegre, Rio Grande do Sul. As research strategies, interviews were used with semi structured itineraries, the participant observation and the analysis of documents. Data collected were analyzed through the interpretative process of textual analysis, aided by the development of templates. The employees group researched presents, in general, low education level. They learned the activities in the establishment and got so used to that reality in such a way that they get comfortable with the situations and activities that they have to accomplish. The learning of the activities performed by the employees of the reception area happens, predominantly, by the informal learning. Few changes are identified in the industry, and individual mental models prevail in the resolution of problems. Decisions are centralized by the management, and the employees did…

The purpose of this dissertation is to analyze the motivations of organizations committed to sexual diversity when developing specific issue-related policies, and to identify emerging perceptions regarding the role played by communication in this context. A qualitative initial study, using in-depth interview techniques, was undertaken with
18 participating organizations in the LGBT Rights and Business Forum. The study revealed the existence of a strong relationship between the policies of diversity and financial returns which is manifest through innovation and employee engagement. Notwithstanding, the majority of the participants do not detain the mechanisms nor the tools required to evidence said relationship. Regarding the role of communication, we evidenced the prevalence of an instrumental perception that associates professional demeanor to technical activities and does not consider the strategic potential of the work carried out by said professionals. Regarding the presence of LGBT persons in participating organizations, we ascertained advances in the debate and difficulties related to the cultural traits of Brazilian society that is perceived by the respondents as mostly chauvinist and LGBTphobic. The most important challenge is to include trans persons and historically vulnerable groups who have been
traditionally excluded. As an academic contribution, the study sought to approximate Organizational Communication and…

▼ Even today,
e-
learning in Malaysia is used for facilitating teaching, not for students’
learning in public school subjects, including music. The purpose of this study was to investigate the effectiveness of
e-
learning in
learning music theory and music appreciation courses in the Malaysian secondary school curriculum. Differences between
learning methods (
e-
learning and conventional classroom teaching) and music achievement were investigated. Also investigated were relationships among research
learning methods, gender, music achievement, students’ attitude to learn music, technological attitude, and students’ technological backgrounds. Two multiple regression analyses were conducted to determine potential predictors of music achievement and attitude to learn music. Pre/Post-tests and attitudinal questionnaires were administered to two hundred and seventy-one Form One (Grade 7) students during the seven-week treatment period. There was a significant difference between music achievement and
learning methods. The results also showed that there were strong relationship between students’ music achievement and
learning methods, and a moderate relationship between students’ technological attitude and students’ attitude to learn music.
Learning methods predicted students’ music achievement, and students’ technological attitude predicted students’ attitude to learn music.

▼ This study aimed to seek answers to the following research question "How does the learning process of professional from a kitchen of a restaurant occurs, what are the elements which characterizes it as social learning and what is the role of the Head Chef in this process?". To be able to answer the question, a general objective was established to perform the description and interpretation of social learning processes present in the work of professionals in the kitchen of a restaurant in the metropolitan Sao Paulo area. Three specific objectives were also established: a) to describe the workplace and show the daily activities of the professionals working at the kitchen, b) identify and analyze work and learning processes adopted by the professionals mentioned, and c) to interpret the learning occurring in the workplace studied by the lens of social learning theory of Bente Elkjær and theoretical elements presented by Antonio Strati and John Dewey in relation to aesthetics in organizations. To find elements that could represent answers to the research question it were used ethnographic research techniques based on indications of André (1999). I remained in the field for 14 months, in total it was 62 days of participant observation, 1,156 photos were taken, 363 vídeos recorded with total duration of 12:48:15 hours, 11 in-depth interviews were conducted with every professional from the investigated kitchen, totaling 23:06:58 hours of recording material and 614 pages of transcriptions. For the organization of the final text I brought to the text narratives present both in the speeches of the participants, images were also used, as well as field diary notes and photographs. The text was organized through the narratives shared by the participants in based on Riessman (2008). I analyzed the elements and ingredients that made possible understanding the lessons learned through the Theory of Social Learning from Bente Elkjær. Sense and sensations activities present in the investigated material were analyzed by elements present in the work related to aesthetics from Antonio Strati and John Dewey. Based on the data analysis it was possible to answer the research question: learning at the professional kitchen occurs due to the presence and due to the shared common goals in the social world they belong to. They are the results of experiences, thoughts, habits and transactions in which they engage in their daily lives. The chef has a key role to share his knowledge and encourage the learning process with each member of his kitchen brigade, offering them the opportunity to perform new tasks, new elements to savor, to develop their senses and fully live the sensations found in each of the preparations that the group is involved. In addition to these roles, he has an obligation to govern with perfection the brigade, enabling each member to reach the acme of perfection in the execution of their work offering everyone the chance to taste each learning ingredient present in the social world of the kitchen.

do sexo masculino.
The purpose of this study consisted in the analysis of various factors that
influence the process of learning transfer from the learning context to the context of
work. With the purpose of operating these factors, we considered the constructs of
transfer of training from the Portuguese version of Learning Transfer System Inventory
(Velada, 2007). In this study, we evaluated three professional development sessions in
which 40 employees of a private security company (mainly male) participated. The
results showed that the transfer of training in this specific context is mainly determined
by situational factors of the work environment that allowed to explain 38% of the
variability of the transfer. In particular, this transfer was related, in a positive and
meaningful way, with the perception of positive personal results in the acquisition of
rewards and benefits by the application of learning in the context of work and with the
cognitive dimension of the sanction factor by the supervisor, as negative responses from
supervisors are not perceived by individuals when they use new techniques learned in
training.

A study shows that only every fourth employer states that the change in the law from 2017, which states that the employer need to promote ethnic diversity, has changed their way of working. Despite the lack of expertise in several industries, such as the fact that by 2020 it will lack 50,000 engineers in the Swedish labor market, studies show that ethnic discrimination occurs. This led us to our purpose to investigating how recruiters relate to ethnic diversity in their work. We did a qualitative study and interviewed recruiters from different companies in a larger city in Sweden. The main result has shown that new employees have not received any education about ethnic diversity and it was expressed as a non-question. Bases on the learning perspective, the recruiters need more organizational support and opportunities to reflect on how ethnic diversity can be understood within work.

The concept of competence
takes different meanings in organizations and some features are essential to organizational performance. Therefore, it becomes important the competence management aimed at people management in order to maintain and develop skills required for the organization performance. In the Brazilian public sector, competence management was established through the Decree nº. 5,707/2006 which sets the National Policy for Staff Development (PNDP), encouraging permanent learning and development of institutional skills from individual skills. Despite the fact that competence management is not exactly old, it is already widespread in different institutions. In this way, public institutions end up sharing and using management methods applied in other institutions, showing very similar characteristics and management models, which is a feature of isomorphism. In consequence, considering the implementation of competence management requirement in federal public institutions in Brazil, this study aims to
identify and describe the aspects that influence policies of competence management in federal universities and what the development and implementation of these policies generate in terms of learning. Based on the literature, initially the concepts of competence in organizations, learning in organizations and institutionalization of practices were defined. Then the methodology was set, so that this research is characterized as interpretative, descriptive and case studies. Seven Brazilian Federal universities were analyzed among a universe of 14 universities that have already started the implementation of competence management. With a semi-structured guide, interviews were conducted with managers involved in the process of development, implementation, monitoring and impact of management skills. Data were analyzed based on the goals set before. It was identified that among of the seven universities analyzed, none of them has the competence management model consolidated, whereas some
universities are in development step and other in an advanced processes. The main areas that…

(STRATI, 1999), e dispositivos narrativos (CZARNIAWSKA, 1998) individuais e coletivo.
The perspective of aesthetics in organizations, as a theoretical and methodological branch of Practice-Based Studies, made comprehensions about the learning of the teaching of postgraduates in administration possible for this study. Starting
from the notion of aesthetics in organizations (STRATI, 1992, 1999, 2007, 2019), the notion of practice (SCHATZKI, 2006, 2012), and the collective construction of knowledge (GHERARDI, 2006), I sought to identify and analyse how aesthetic elements and perceptions arrange in everyday life of teaching formation, as well as describe the practices of the teaching perceived by the researched people. The study was developed following literature from the educational field, including administration literature, the latter still at its beginnings on the subject of teaching development for higher education. The methodological aspects are characterized as participant observation and imaginative participant observation (STRATI, 1999), and individual and collective narrative devices (CZARNIAWSKA, 1998). It was observed that the processes of learning of the teaching, in the situated context of the study, are characterized by individuality, by the lack of aesthetic stimuli, and by limited
“in-practice” experiences. It was also possible too to understand that the teaching is predominantly ruled by research activities,…

Organisational Engagement (OE) (Kahn 1990) and its facets
Absorption, Dedication, Identification and Vigour (Schaufeli et al

descriptive analysis (Zikmund 2003). Using saturation sampling and
an adapted Utrecht Work Engagement Scale (UWES) (Schaufeli and
Bakker 2003), 422 employees working at the head office of a
manufacturing corporation were surveyed. The outcome of the
research presented a strong case that there is a very high
correlation between salutogenesis and engagement.

▼ The purpose of this study is to evaluate the organisational communication and infonnation
flow at the SA Cultural History Museum (SACHM) and its decentralised sites with particular
reference to its role in decision making and, where necessary, to recommend remedial
measures.
An extensive literature review was undertaken on organisational communication, infornation
and decision making in organisations, with particular reference to the SACHM. The literature
review facilitated the development of the research instruments, to assess best practices in
terms of the identified key drivers. The research questions are:
• The existence of communication practices and processes at SACHM, and
• The effective dissemination of information necessary for effective decision making.
The statistical results of the empirical study reveal conclusively that the organisational
communication, information dissemination and decision making at the SACHM was indeed
ineffective. The results indicate the following:
• The lack of adherence to shared values and common purpose between managers and staff
regarding equity, lack of participation in decision-making, lack of service delivery to
local, regional and national communities, lack of mutual respect, lack of dedication, lack
of a people centered approach, and finally a lack of interpersonal communication and
negotiation;
• The lack of application of basic communication fundamentals namely the bottom-up and
top-down approaches;
• The lack of access to timeous and accurate information to make effective decisions; and
• The non-existence of communication processes and practices.
Dysfunctional organisational communication and inadequate information flow to both
employees and managers, has been identified as having an impact on effective decision
making. Arising from the findings of the research, a communication audit is recommended to
facilitate the establishment of an effective communication and information framework for the museum.

▼ The perception that an organisation wants its stakeholders to have is its desired identity. Its actual identity is what the stakeholders actually know or think about the organisation (Walker, 2010: 366). Stakeholder loyalty is an invaluable and positive consequence of any organisation’s effective communication. An organisation’s management should be proactive in the face of any negativity (finding its way into businesses and in the fragile and sensitive circumstances of stakeholder relationships). There is a gap between organisations and their specific stakeholders as a cumulative result of misinformation or lack of information. Organisational communication, especially via the press, enhances sustainable stakeholder loyalty, which contributes to an organisation’s advantages and economic essences. The purpose of this study is to explore the dynamics of stakeholders’ effective organisational communication via the press and media reports on Eskom, and to identify and isolate critical elements in this dynamic process. Although the study is primarily explorative and descriptive, public press reports will be analysed to contribute to the larger purpose of exploration and description. This research draws on the aims of corporate reputation to assist organisational insiders and external stakeholders to activate positive organisational behaviour with consideration of media interpretations in order to answer the problem statement. The fact that Eskom is a government parastatal which was established to supply and regulate electricity with no other competitors does not imply that they do not have to work on a positive brand image, perception and stakeholder satisfaction. This is even more pertinent when it is argued that the taxpayer’s money is used for much of the excessive spending that the senior employees ostensibly enjoy. Whether an organisation is small or big, its priority of relevance is not placed on competitive success, but on its image with all its stakeholders at all times. In considering stakeholders’ perceptions, there are huge business expansion possibilities for corporate bodies and organisations whose business mission statements reflect stakeholders’ satisfaction and retention.
This research applied content analysis, which exhibits both qualitative characteristics (description of variables and categories) and quantitative features (numeric evaluation of data) in the investigation, description, discussion and analysis of the collected data. The data comprised media reports on Eskom, as presented by the Cape Times, the Mail and Guardian and the City Press - three reputable South African newspapers. These reports were gathered within a period of one year: 1st July 2010 to 30th June 2011. A semi-structured interview was
used to substantiate Eskom’s stakeholder values and concerns against the backdrop of the newspaper report claims. The outcome of this study points to the need for organisations to effectively communicate with stakeholders in and through the media on trends within the organisation, prevailing issues,…

descriptive analysis (Zikmund 2003).

▼ This study looked for significant relationships between employee communication satisfaction and employee work engagement, employee work engagement and job performance, and employee communication satisfaction and job performance at a manufacturing facility in the southeast United States. The question of significant differences in the levels of employee communication satisfaction, employee work engagement, and job performance was also explored. Surveys were used to establish measures of communication satisfaction and work engagement at both the individual and team levels of five similar work teams. Job performance was measured at the team level using three-week average first-pass yield scores from the product testing areas. The data was analyzed using Pearson’s r correlation coefficient testing, simple linear regression, multiple linear regression, and multivariate analysis of variance. The analyses found strong evidence of predictive relationships between levels of communication satisfaction and work engagement. However, the sample size of only five work teams appears to have affected the reliability of any conclusions regarding the possibility of significant relationships between engagement and job performance or communication satisfaction and job performance. The job performance sample size of only five work teams appears to have similarly affected analyses of any differences in the levels of employee communication satisfaction, employee work engagement, and job performance. Further research, using a larger sample size for three-week average first-pass yield scores, or some other measure of job performance, is recommended.

▼ This study explores the relationship between subordinates' inclination to distort negative upward organizational communication and four personality variables. The study used a postulated Upward Organizational Communication Distortion Index to measure the propensity of the study participants to distort upward organizational communication, then tested four personality variables – (1) Quality of Superior-subordinate Relationship using Leader-Member Exchange Theory, (2) Locus of Control, (3) Need for Cognition, and (4) Tolerance of Ambiguity – measured during the same survey session, to ascertain whether any correlated with the theoretical propensity to distort negative upward organizational communication. The study population was Department of the Army senior civilian employees assumed to be pursuing careers as civilian employees within the Department of the Army. Although no conclusive evidence was found that linked any of the four independent variables, weak correlations between some of the independent variables and two of the dependent variable subscales were established that suggest further investigation.
