▼ Appropriate interpretation is one major aspect in literary study. However, it has been observed that there exists a problem of interpretation. in the field of-literature. This problem has led and is leading people who are engaged in literary study to wrong perception of reality which results in social practices that are misleading. This is a critical problem and requires careful attention from scholars in the field .In this connection, literature is basically related to ideology which directly or indirectly controls discourses. Literary discourses are also expressions of ideology. This point implies that no work of literature is devoid of ideological content. For this reason, in any literary analysis, the inclusion of ideological structure is necessary. To be more specific, African literary texts in general and political novels in particular are in one way or another related to ideology . . " Concomitantly, the African tradition of thought and African literary tradition are two basic categories which are intimately or closely related to the long African history. The African tradition of thought has got expression through its oral tradition which later developed into written literature. In this connection, it may be noted that modern African literature has sprung from its own history which is characterized by domination. This also implies that African literature reflects the African experience in the course of domination which ranges from the slave-trade to the post-colonial era. The idea of domination is linked to politics, ideology and power because domination is impossible without political power. In this regard, most African authors are preoccupied with portraying the colonial and post-colonial experience of Africa through their works.All of the points indicated above clearly show . " that there is a link among African history, African politics, African ideology, African domination and African literary texts. This link presupposes a closer examination of ideology through which all forms of control are carried out.In addition, the study of ideology in the African context is very limited. Taking these points into account, this research sets out to deal with problems of interpretation taking ideological analysis as its reference point.For this purpose,this study has evolved an integrated framework of ideology consisting' of three major paradigms.vis.iauthorial.aesthetic and' dominant ideologies. This framework has been applied to the interpretation of six selected East African Anglophone novels:Nuruddin Farah's first trilogy,Ngugi's Petals of Blood,Mwangi's Kill Me Quick and Serumaga's Return to the Shadows. This thesis contains seven chapters. The first chapter deals with the rationale that necesitates ideological study in literary texts in line with the background of African literary tradition. ▼ The study aims to examine the practice of source and story selection in Ethiopian Television (ETV). The study thus explores the dominant sources used within ETV news to see whose views are reflected most in the news and how these sources become frequently used by journalists in the news. The study also examines criteria for selecting stories at ETV. The nature of methodology employed in this study is qualitative. In-depth interviews with key informants and content analysis were used as techniques to gather data. Some 503 television news stories were collected between 1 May 2006 and 30 May 2006. Key informant interviews were also conducted with media practitioners who are responsible for news production. Results showed that government sources were used as major information providers in 73.4 % of the stories, and government officials were visible in 54.3 % of the stories. The interpretation drawn from these results is that government voices are preferred for news stories, with representatives from other sections of society being given less chance to express their perspectives. The thesis concludes that that political power is a major source consideration at ETV. The powerful decision-makers at the editorial conference, gatekeepers of the final product, are inevitably members of or sympathetic to the ruling party. With regard to criteria for news selection, issues that deal with development are given priority, and portraying the government positively is also an important criterion for choosing stories. The findings also show that there are both internal and external pressures affecting journalistic decisions, often forcing journalists to practice self-censorship in order to depict the ruling party positively and omit facts that are offensive to the ruling party. The thesis concludes that different sections of society are not able to communicate their perspectives on ETV since the organization serves as a conduit for government policy messages instead of regularly entertaining diversified views. ▼ Plant cells contain two or even three types of vacuoles: the lytic, the (seed) protein storage and vegetative storage vacuoles. Soluble vacuolar proteins are sorted through the secretory pathway to these vacuoles by three different routes, depending on different types of Vacuolar Sorting Determinants (VSD) and involving several types of receptors and vesicles. The AtRMR1 protein has been identified in cellular structures associated with the seed storage vacuole pathway (Jiang et al. 2000). Based on its localisation and homology to a known vacuolar receptor, it has been hypothesised to be a receptor protein for the C-terminal type of VSD (CtVSD) involved in sorting to the storage vacuole. The genome of Arabidopsis thaliana contains 5 genes homologous to AtRMR1. The main goal of this study was to test the involvement of AtRMR1 in vacuolar sorting and to test the specificity of the different AtRMR proteins for different known CtVSDs. To test the involvement of AtRMR proteins in vacuolar sorting we studied the effects of manipulations of these genes on targeting of vacuolar reporter proteins. I used two different models: A. thaliana leaf protoplasts and whole plants of insertional mutants from the SALK Institute collection. The protoplast model allowed me to study in vivo the effects on vacuolar sorting of versions of AtRMR1 with loss of function deletions or modified functions. I obtained interesting results with two of these constructs: one lacking the luminal VSD-binding domain (RMRΔlum) and one consisting of this soluble luminal domain retained in the ER by the addition of a HDEL peptide signal (RMRlumER). When overexpressed with GFP fused to the ssVSD of barley aleurain, the RMRΔlum construct showed a different pattern of fluorescence compared with the control: in RMRΔlum, a significant proportion of protoplasts showed a dot-like fluorescent pattern, whereas the fluorescence was more often found in the central vacuole or ER in the control. When I used either the CtVSD of tobacco chitinase or a short version of the barley aleurain ssVSD, I didn’t see a different fluorescent pattern with or without the dominant negative construct. To better estimate the effects of the dominant negative constructs, the level of secretion of enzymatic reporters was investigated. The reporters were α-amylase fused either to the CtVSD of tobacco chitinase, the CtVSD of barley lectin or the ssVSD of sweet potato sporamin. For these three different reporters, overexpression of RMRΔlum induced an increased secretion of the reporter, whereas a simple fractionation showed that the RMRlumER construct provoked their accumulation in microsomal compartments, presumably ER. Two other constructs, where either the luminal domain of AtRMR1 was redirected to the PM (RMRlumPM) or the soluble cytosolic domain was overexpressed (RMRcyt) didn’t have any effect on the sorting of enzymatic reporters, suggesting that the transmembrane and cytosolic domains are both important for the VSD binding and that the cytosolic domain alone is not able to interfere with… Advisors/Committee Members: Jean-Marc (Dir.).

▼ Purpose - The objective of this paper is to investigate how a brand reinforces its own brand personality by collaborating with partnering brands. Design/Methodology/approach - A qualitative single case study approach was undertaken on the Swedish grocery brand Coop by which data were collected through the use of both primary and secondary data. In addition data have been extracted from interviews with some of the partnering brands of Coop. Findings - The findings illustrates how Coop as the green and family-oriented brand have selected partners that meets particular associations with regards to its family-orientation and sustainable mindset. The empirical findings points to the importance of integrating a co-creating aspect within theories on brand personality as to give a complete picture of how it could be formed and implemented. Research implications/limitations - The study adds theoretically with an update on how a company could form its own brand personality by the help of others. As this research have been focused on a firm perspective it have not been possible to address whether co-creation of a brand personality actually could be seen as resulting in a greater loyalty on part of customers. Further research will hence be needed that either takes a purely customer-oriented approach to the subject or preferably a combination between a firm and customer perspective. Managerial implications - The empirical findings points to the possibility of managers to deliberately establish a brand personality by the help of other enterprises. The study moreover points to the importance of choosing to collaborate with partners that either are aligned with a personality or complementary in some beneficial way. Originality/value - Previous research on brand personality have mainly focused on how a firm could reinforce a certain profile by the more traditional marketing tools that are under the direct control of a company. The present research assemble contributes with an update on how a personality also could be seen as being co-created between a firm and a number of partnering brands.

Le sida est l’objet d’une abondante production discursive faisant intervenir une pluralité d’acteurs au Cameroun. Tous les acteurs de la communication sociale sur le sida ne lui accordent cependant pas la même signification. Les uns le considèrent comme une affection au même titre que les autres affections connues c’est-à-dire résultant de l’action pathogène d’un micro-organisme naturel appelé vih ; pour d’autres, le sida est un état physiologique ouvert à la maladie du fait de la déficience immunitaire ; une dernière catégorie le considère comme une maladie mystique c’est-à-dire, due soit à l’action des sorciers, soit à la colère de Dieu. Une analyse fondée sur la définition révèle que les convictions et certitudes exprimées par les acteurs de la communication sociale sur le sida ne sont pas le reflet d’une réalité ontologique, incréée, palpable et décelable objectivement ; il s’agit plutôt des constructions. Deux types de constructions se dégagent de ce processus : l’une, scientifique, fait intervenir des acteurs partageant les mêmes savoirs et pratiques scientifiques. Ils s’expriment dans des espaces symboliques particuliers qui sont : l’hôpital, le laboratoire d’analyses médicales, les médias et les institutions publiques. Les discours scientifiques changent, modifiant ainsi les représentations et convictions conséquentes. Le deuxième type de construction fait intervenir d’une part, les acteurs non scientifiques et les spécialistes des disciplines autres que la biologie et d’autre part, des biologistes considérés comme en marge de l’orthodoxie. Alors que les acteurs de la dynamique scientifique disposent des instances d’arbitrage et de consensus permettant d’harmoniser leurs vues, ceux de la dynamique populaire évoluent sans coordination. La dynamique populaire intègre les discours scientifiques dans des systèmes de savoirs et pratiques culturelles, autant qu’il procède à des formulations relatives aux différentes manières dont les cultures concernées se représentent la santé et la maladie. Il en résulte des convictions et représentations particulières, différentes de celles suggérées par les discours scientifiques. Parce que les discours populaires intègrent discours scientifiques dissidents, ils suscitent la réplique ou le réajustement des discours dominants. L’interaction entre les discours dominants et les discours dominés participe d’une construction de synthèse qui rend encore plus mouvante, la saisie du sida.

In Cameroon, the Aids issue is the subject of an abundant discursive work that brings in a plurality of actors. However, all the social communication actors on AIDS do not give the same meaning to the issue. Some consider it as affection, in the same way as the other known affections. ▼ Currently the sub urban (Satoyama) forests in Japan have become the important areas to restore management activities. Historically these forests derived multiple benefits to the environment and society. Before 1950-60s these forests were managed in a sustainable way to produce wood for fuels, leaf-litter for organic fertilizer etc and after abrupt shift to fossil fuel in 1950-60s these forests remained underused. In the last two decades thousands of volunteer groups have been formed for the conservation and restoration management of sub urban (Satoyama) forests. Recently, Japan government has also taken initiatives to manage the sub urban forests in a sustainable way to combat global warming in the light of low carbon society initiative. Therefore, determining strategy for sustainable management of sub urban forests can play a significant role in achieving the goal of sustainability. In this study our aim was to formulate a strategy for the sustainable management of sub urban forest in Japan and to ascertain the potential contribution of these forests to the environmental sustainability in their vicinages. The semi-natural sub urban (Satoyama) forest of Oaota, in Kashiwa, Chiba Japan was selected for the study with legal permission from non-profit organization (NPO). The sub urban (Satoyama) forest spans over a total area of 42 hectares, of which, only 4 hectares area is under NPO management. Within the NPO managed forest areas we identified Plantation Forest (PF) site and Natural Forest (NF) site and two quadratic plots were set in each site to get the forest inventory data. We measured sectional diameters at 2 m intervals starting from 0.3 m from the ground by diameter tap alongside the total canopy height of trees using the Criterion RD 1000. Lengths and diameters of branches were also measured from photographs by using ArcGIS 10.0. We then used these data to obtain existing biomass stock (in the year 2010) of the forest. Afterwards we cut 16 trees of four dominant species viz., Quercus serrata, Chamaecyparis obtusa, Cryptomeria japonica, and Carpinus tschonoskii and 139 stem discs of 5 cm thick were collected for the growth ring analysis by WinDENDRO Reg2002b software. According to our finding, most of the trees in this forest are 50 years in age (approximately). Based on the early growth pattern of the dominant species, Quercus serrata and Carpinus tschonoskii exhibited higher biomass yields in the Oaota forest followed by Chamaecyparis obtusa and Cryptomeria japonica. As per our biomass calculation using Mitscherlich growth model, the total wood biomass of Oaota forest in 2010 was 4994 m3 which will reach 6654.27 m3 by 2020 adding 1660.27 m3 biomass to the stock; under the assumed 2 % mortality rate. Asiakaskeskeisen logiikan ajatus arvon muodostumisesta myös palvelutapahtuman ulkopuolella kuluttajan arjessa tarjoaa välineen omadatan hyödyntämisen käsittelyyn. Kolmannessa osassa lukija tutustutetaan intention eli aikomuksen teoriaan, jonka pohjana on suunnitellun käyttäytymisen malli. Nämä kolme teoriaa yhdistävässä viitekehyksessä kuvataan omadatan synnyttämää asiakasarvon muodostumisen prosessia, jossa aikomusta edistävät ja estävät tekijät määrittävät, syntyykö ja toteutuuko kuluttajan aikomus hyödyntää omadataa. Aikomuksen toteutuessa kuluttajalle muodostuu asiakasarvo. Tutkimus toteutettiin laadullisena tapaustutkimuksena, jossa käytettiin kolmea eri aineistonkeruumetodia. Kyseessä on toimeksiantotutkimus, jonka tapausesimerkki on S-ryhmän Omat ostot -palvelu, jolla S-ryhmän asiakasomistaja pystyy tarkastelemaan ostohistoriaansa. Aluksi ilmiöön saavutettiin esiymmärrys netnografialla, kun Omat ostot -palveluun liittyvää keskustelua seurattiin sosiaalisesta mediasta. Netnografialla tunnistettiin kuusi teemaa, joita hyödynnettiin muissa aineistonkeruuvaiheissa. Toisessa aineistonkeruuvaiheessa käytiin läpi toimeksiantajan teettämän ja palvelun käyttökokemusta selvittävän kyselytutkimuksen avoimet vastaukset. Kolmannessa vaiheessa järjestettiin 11 yksilöhaastattelua, joissa haastateltiin Omat ostot -palvelun käyttäjiä. Kaikki aineisto analysoitiin temaattista sisällönanalyysiä hyödyntäen. ▼ INTRODUCTION: Over the past 15 years, participation in women’s soccer has increased drastically and with that comes increased exposure to injury. When athletes perform deceleration tasks, such as planting the limb during a kick, there is an increased risk of anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury. Low knee flexion angles at contact, high posterior ground reaction force (GRF), increased lateral trunk lean, high knee abduction angle, and high knee external rotation of the knee have all been identified as potential mechanisms of ACL injury during deceleration tasks. At higher levels of competition, a soccer player becomes more valuable if they are able to produce quality kicks with both of their legs. While there is some evidence that plant limb mechanics differ between the dominant and non-dominant plant limb, there is little known about how these differences in mechanics relate to ACL injury risk through the previous specific variables (Clagg et al., 2009). The purpose of the current study is to determine the differences in the mechanics between the dominant and non-dominant plant limb during instep soccer kicking of competitive female soccer athletes. METHODS: 18 female participants were recruited for the current study (means and standard deviations were: age 20.7 +/- 2.4 years, height 1.7 +/- 0.1 meters, weight 61.5 +/- 8.2 kg, respectively). Each participant performed three instep soccer kicks at a 60° angle from the right side of the ball and the left side of the ball for a total of six kicks. Three dimensional coordinate locations of a standard full-body marker set were recorded during the kicking trials with a Vicon MX motion capture system (VICON, Denver, CO, USA). Plant foot ground reaction forces were recorded with Kistler force plates. Three dimensional trajectories and force plate data were imported into Visual 3D (C-Motion, Inc.; Germantown, MD) for subsequent analyses of the kinematic and kinetic variables. Custom processing protocols developed in Visual 3D were used to determine posterior GRF, knee joint angles in the sagittal, transverse and frontal planes, and lateral trunk lean. All variables were calculated between initial plant foot contact (IC) and 200 ms after IC. STATISTICAL ANALYSIS: In order to test for significant differences across the non-dominant and dominant limbs, repeated measures MANOVA was used with significance set at p <0.05. RESULTS & CONCLUSION: A repeated measures MANOVA was used with significance set at p < 0.05 in order to test for significant differences between the nondominant and dominant limbs. A non-significant multivariate main effect of limb was found (Wilks’ λ = 0.873, F(5,30) = .872, p = 0.511). The current study found insignificant differences between the dominant and non-dominant plant limb with respect to kinematics. Previous research on kinematics during a deceleration task has been inconsistent. ▼ Although Business Intelligence (BI) is highly promoted and praised, organisations implementing a BI solution do not always achieve expected benefits. Instead, numerous reports of failed BI implementations and challenges prevail. Even organisations indicating they receive benefit from their BI solutions strive for improvement in BI. This highlights a need for BI to improve and for it to overcome its challenges. In response, this thesis proposes a paradigm shift for BI. It provides a literature and case study, representing an interpretive enquiry using a qualitative research approach. The case study is set within a large South African bank, extending to BI vendors providing BI solutions to the bank. Two scenarios are used to compare the views of BI providers and BI customers. In one scenario, the bank’s internal BI departments represent the BI provider view, providing BI to other departments within the bank as their BI customers. In the other scenario, the BI vendors represent the BI provider view and the BI customer view is represented by the bank’s BI departments as well as other internal bank departments – who are also the BI customers of the BI departments. The thesis starts by identifying BI’s prevailing challenges, highlighting the restrictive tendency evident within BI literature and practice whereby typical Information System (IS) challenges are raised as BI challenges. Challenges are then examined to understand their BI-specific aspects and to identify a list of BI’s prevailing challenges. The thesis then examines current measures proposed to address BI’s challenges, establishing that these are largely ineffective. Rather than attempt to resolve BI’s challenges in the same manner as previous attempts do, this thesis then analyses BI at a conceptual level to reveal a common worldview of BI held by BI practitioners and academics. It is identified that this common worldview is predominantly based on a Goods-Dominant (G-D) Logic, resulting in many of BI’s challenges. A suggestion is made to shift this worldview to a Service-Dominant (S-D) Logic. Although S-D Logic is not a new lens, it has not yet been explicitly applied to BI or a BI-related discipline at a conceptual level, offering the opportunity to examine BI from a new perspective wherein new insights to address BI’s persistent challenges emerge. À ce jour, STAT3 est le seul gène pour lequel des mutations dans les régions codantes sont à l'origine du syndrome hyper-immunoglobuline E autosomique dominant (AD-HIES). Cependant, l'étiologie génétique de 5% des individus répondant aux critères cliniques pour l'AD-HIES reste inconnue. En combinant le séquençage de l'exome entier et l'analyse de liaison génétique, nous avons identifié la première mutation hétérozygote STAT3 intronique, c.1282-89C>T, causant l'AD-HIES chez sept patients de la même famille. Cette mutation crée un nouvel exon au niveau de l'ADNc de STAT3 (D427ins17). Nous avons également identifié deux nouvelles mutations STAT3 non-sens; c.1552C>T conduisant à une protéine tronquée avec un codon stop dans le domaine de liaison de STAT3 (R518*) chez un patient souffrant de l'AD-HIES, et c.2091delT conduisant à une protéine tronquée avec un codon stop entraînant un décalage du cadre de lecture dans le domaine de transactivation de STAT3 (D698Tfs*9) chez deux apparentés atteints de la tuberculose. Dans un système de surexpression, les trois protéines STAT3 mutantes sont perte de fonction en terme de phosphorylation de la tyrosine, de liaison à l'ADN et d'activité transcriptionnelle. Dans les lymphocytes B des patients, les deux allèles non-sens ne sont pas exprimés alors que nous avons trouvé par spectrométrie de masse que l'allèle D427ins17 ne représente que 5 à 20% du STAT3 total dans les cellules du patient. L'activation des leucocytes du patient a démontré une faible réponse aux cytokines STAT3-dépendantes, comme d'autres patients avec l'AD-HIES. Dans un système de surexpression, nous avons montré que les allèles D427ins17 et D698Tfs*9 sont également dominants-négatifs, alors que l'allèle R518* est neutre. Ce travail démontre l'importance du séquençage des introns dans l'établissement du diagnostic génétique pour l'AD-HIES. De plus, l'étude de l'allèle D427ins17 suggère que les mutations provoquant l'AD-HIES peuvent exercer un effet dominant-négatif même lorsqu'elles sont exprimées à des niveaux significativement inférieurs à ceux de la protéine de type sauvage. En revanche, l'étude de l'allèle R518* suggère l'haploinsuffisance comme étant un autre mécanisme susceptible d'entraîner l'AD-HIES; cependant, l'identification et la caractérisation d'un plus grand nombre de mutations non-sens sont nécessaires avant de pouvoir tirer des conclusions définitives.

To date STAT3 is the only gene in which variants in coding regions are known to cause Autosomal Dominant Hyper-Immunoglobulin E Syndrome (AD-HIES). P53 est un gène suppresseur de tumeur ubiquitaire qui empêche la prolifération de cellules malignes chez l’humain. En réponse à des dommages à l’ADN ou à des stress cellulaires, p53 entraine l’arrêt du cycle cellulaire et initie la réparation des lésions du génome. Si ces réparations échouent, p53 déclenche alors la mort de la cellule endommagée par apoptose. De plus, p53 présente une forte homologie avec deux autres gènes suppresseurs de tumeur : p63 et p73. Ces trois protéines forment une famille de facteurs de transcription qui protège l’organisme contre le développement de tumeurs. Ce système de défense est enrichi par les multiples isoformes de p53, p63 et p73 dont les rôles sont encore mal décrits. La neutralisation de la fonction de suppression de tumeur de p53, p63 et p73 est un mécanisme clef du développement tumoral auquel participent les mutants hotspots de p53 ainsi que certaines isoformes de p53, p63 et p73 par un effet dominant-négatif. Toutefois, de nombreuses zones d’ombre limitent notre compréhension de ce phénomène. Tout d’abord, l’identification des membres de la famille de p53 impliqués dans l’effet dominant-négatif reste incomplète. Ensuite, les mécanismes responsables de l’effet dominant-négatif sont débattus, suite notamment à l’émergence d’une nouvelle hypothèse impliquant un mécanisme de type prion. Enfin, l’effet dominant-négatif de la famille de p53 pourrait également être mis en cause dans d’autres types de pathologies comme les syndromes développementaux associés à des mutations de p63. Au cours de cette thèse, j’ai étudié l’impact fonctionnel des mutations hotspots de p53 ainsi que celui des principales isoformes de la famille de p53 sur l’activité transcriptionnelle des isoformes actives de p53, p63 et p73. En utilisant comme modèle d’étude un eucaryote simple, la levure S. cerevisiae, nous avons pu démontrer que l’effet dominant-négatif des mutants et isoformes de la famille de p53 repose sur la formation d’hétéro-tétramères entre formes actives et inactives de ces protéines et n’implique pas de mécanisme de type prion. De plus nos travaux ont montré que certains mutants de p53 interfèrent avec les isoformes actives de p63 et p73 par un mécanisme partiellement basé sur la tétramérisation. En outre, nos résultats préliminaires suggèrent que les mutants de p63 impliqués dans les syndromes développementaux EEC, ADULT et NSCL1 exercent également un effet dominant-négatif similaire à celui des mutants de p53. L’identification des mécanismes de l’effet dominant-négatif observé au sein de la famille de p53 permet d’envisager de nouvelles cibles thérapeutiques tant dans les cancers que dans certaines maladies rares du développement humain.

Accordingly, universities need to expand their perspectives from seeing themselves as only knowledge and education providers to being centres that facilitate students’ broader experiences. The theory of value-in-use creation posits that customers are focal agents who create value by integrating resources drawn from the firm (i.e. the products), the environment and themselves. This alternate view of a customer is different to traditional views where firms create value for customers. This study utilises this alternate view and considers its implications in the context of international higher education in Australia. This study investigated the resource integration process undertaken by international PhD students, encompassing their academic and non-academic lower-level goals and the resources used to achieve those goals were identified. The aim of this study was to explain how international PhD students create value-in-use through the resource integration process. The study employed an exploratory case-study qualitative research method to achieve the aim of the research. Interviews were conducted with 27 international PhD students at The University of Newcastle. The results suggest existing models of resource integration do not adequately capture key elements of the resource integration process evident in the lives of students examined in this case study. A more comprehensive model drawn purely from the customers’ perspective is presented and a set of related propositions are discussed to explain how resource integration occurs among international PhD students in this study. The findings contribute to the theory of value-in-use creation by describing the component parts of the process of customer’s resource integration process, known as a black box in the literature. In addition, the results provide The University of Newcastle’s managers and decision-makers with more comprehensive insights into how they may better engage as facilitators in supporting students as customers actively engaged in a resource integration process.

▼ This project analyses the acculturation process in a specific context, in order to predict the perceived work success and health (both psychological and physical) of mineworkers in a mine in the North-West Province.1 Success is evaluated in terms of meeting deadlines at work, reputation and respect at work, and training and development opportunities at work. Employees' success and health is considered from an acculturation perspective and thus viewed as a result of the acculturation process. This hypothesis was investigated by examining the affect of the acculturation context and individual intervening factors, which are translated into variables, on perceived work success and health (acculturation outcomes). A random convenience sample of participants from the mine under investigated was taken (n = 288 the majority of the participants are male, married, Black, and Afrikaans-speaking). English questionnaires using a cross-sectional survey design were administered to these participants. The questions were derived from adapted measuring scales and scales developed for the project, which follow a five-point Likert format ('strongly agree' to 'strongly disagree'). Four categories of instruments were used: those examining the mainstream domain (multiculturalism, tolerance of other cultures by the mainstream, multicultural practices, relationships with host culture members at work), individual intervening factors (individual integration acculturation strategy and perceived self-efficacy), acculturation outcomes (health and work success), and the ethnocultural domain (ethnic integration demands, ethnic solidarity and social support, relationship with co-ethnics, and ethnic vitality at work). The data was captured in a spreadsheet, quality controlled, and statistically analysed using multivariate analysis of variance, one-way analysis of variance, and T-tests in SAS, SPSS, and AMOS (regression using structural equation modelling). Descriptive statistics, Cronbach alpha coefficients, and Pearson product-moment correlation coefficients were examined. Effect sizes were used to determine the practical significance of the findings. Perceived self-efficacy is a statistically significant predictor of work success in terms of meeting deadlines. Multicultural practices, ethnic integration demands at work, relationship with co-ethnics individual integration acculturation strategy, and perceived self-efficacy statistically significant predictors of work success in terms of reputation and respect at work. Sammanfattning Syfte och frågeställningar: Syftet med undersökningen var att ta ett första steg mot att skapa ett testbatteri, som objektivt kan mäta fotbollspelares tekniska prestationsförmåga med boll, samt konstruera en rad övningar som innefattar viktiga fotbolls-specifika tekniker och testa dessa övningars reliabilitet genom ”test-retest”. Syftet med studien var också att göra en jämförelse i prestation mellan varje spelares dominanta och icke-dominanta fot, från tillslagsövningar där båda fötterna används. Metod: Tolv herrjuniorer (16-19 år) och sju damjuniorer (15-17 år) på elitnivå genomförde ett testbatteri bestående av totalt 21 övningar för mätning av de fotbollsspecifika teknikerna nick, mottagning, driva med boll samt tillslag. Åtta av männen (16-19 år) återgenomförde testbatteriet för utvärdering av testbatteriets reliabilitet. Korrelationen mellan vardera övningens testresultat från den första testomgången (test) och den andra testomgången (retest) bestämdes genom användandet av Pearsons korrelationskoefficienter (r). Skillnader i kvantifierad prestation mellan dominant och icke-dominant fot beräknades med hjälp av ett beroende t-test. Resultat: Fem av övningarna genererade signifikanta korrelationer mellan resultaten från de båda testomgångarna. Dessa övningar var: precisionsskott på stillaliggande boll med dominant fot (r=0,949), skotthastighet med dominant fot (r=0,734), mottagning med bröstkorgen av boll levererad i luften (r=0,743), samt övningarna rak sprint utan boll och rak sprint med boll där kvoten mellan de två sistnämnda övningarna visade på signifikant korrelation (r=0,805). I båda grupperna förelåg en signifikant skillnad i prestation mellan dominant och icke-dominant fot i övningarna; skotthastighet, långpass på marken samt upprepade tillslag. Herrjuniorerna uppvisade dessutom en signifikant skillnad i prestation i övningen skottprecision på studsande boll. Slutsats: Det ringa deltagareantalet gör att resultaten i studien bör tolkas med försiktighet. Studien visa dock att en objektiv utvärdering av flera fotbollsspecifika tekniker är möjlig och några av övningarna visade hög korrelation mellan test och retest. Då resultaten i vissa avseenden pekar på signifikanta skillnader i prestation mellan dominant och icke-dominant fot anser författarna att båda fötterna bör testas i utvärderingar av en spelares tekniska förmåga.

Då vi båda kommer arbeta i en tjänstebransch där det krävs samarbete med kunder, väcktes vårt intresse att fördjupa oss i ämnet. Syftet med den här studien är att utifrån ett företags- och kundperspektiv öka förståelsen för hur delarna dialog, access, riskbedömning och transparens påverkar värdesamskapandet i en säljprocess mellan tjänsteföretag och kunder. Metod: I studien har vi använt oss av en kvalitativ metod. Underlaget till studien samlades in genom semistrukturerade djupintervjuer med både fastighetsmäklare och kunder (säljare). Från intervjuerna har vi tagit ut nyckeltermer och presenterat dem i empirikapitlet. Utifrån ett deduktiv angreppssätt har det empiriska underlaget analyserats mot teorin och respondenternas svar har även jämförts sinsemellan. Resultat & slutsats: Av de faktorer vi undersökte visade sig dialog och transparens ha ett starkare samband och vara mer framträdande vid värdesamskapande än access. Dessutom låg riskbedömning snarare till grund för de tre andra faktorerna vilket vi anser borde revideras och tydliggöras i modellen. Ett annat resultat från vår studie är att ett värdesamskapande snabbt kan övergå till ett värdeförstörande om det inte hanteras på rätt sätt igenom hela affärsprocessen. Förslag till fortsatt forskning: Det vore intressant att prova våra två omarbetade DART-modeller i en studie med fler respondenter då vårt urval varit begränsat i storlek. Vi finner det också intressant att se om den befintliga DART-modellen är applicerbar i en studie där utgångspunkten är en annan tjänstebransch där risktagandet inte är av samma betydelse. Vi föreslår även att utföra studier på området med ett induktivt angreppssätt, då vår studie varit begränsad till en befintlig teoretisk modell. Background: Quality of life (QOL) is a concern that extends to various specialist areas, such as the provision of oncology and associated ancillary services, and the living support services (LSS) provided to patients. Bringing together healthcare and marketing research, this study develops a new way of thinking about marketing associated with the service-dominant logic (S-D L), or more broadly, service logic (S-L), which generally contends that all value is created by the customer alone, yet this new logic emphasizes the concept of value co-creation. As the oncology healthcare delivery system changes, and new scientific discoveries are integrated into non-clinical oncology care, the role of customer participation in value creation processes involving LSS provision to day-care oncology patients will continue to evolve. It is suggested that patient participation can play a key role in the outcome of the value creation process, effectively contributing to improvements in LSS provision, leading to an improvement or enhancement of the day-care oncology patients’ overall QOL. While co-production and value co-creation imply customer and supplier participation, participation has received relatively little attention in the specialist literature. This research disentangles the notions of the production and co-production of goods and services, from both the creation and co-creation of value propositions, and the assumptions underlying value-in-use. The focus of the analysis is on participation in exchange, and in the value creation process, by customers and suppliers. The project responds to Grönroos and Ravald (2011)’s call for research: Adopting a service logic means that in a value creation context, during the simultaneous consumption and production processes, a supplier makes active use of existing interactions with its customers. These interactions are part of the customers’ practices and consumption processes and hence also part of their value creation. However, understanding the nature of suppliers’ value co-creation opportunities and the customers’ role in this process requires an in-depth understanding of the interaction concept and the role of interactions in value creation (Grönroos & Ravald, 2011, p. 10). ▼ The primary goal of the American football helmet has been protection of players against skull fractures and other traumatic brain injuries (TBI) [Cantu 2003, Benson 2009]. TBI can result from short, high magnitude linear impact events typical of when the head impacts a hard surface [Gilcrhist 2003, Doorly 2007]. The modern helmet, which has evolved and become well designed to mitigate TBI injuries, does not offer sufficient protection against injury such as concussion, and the incident rate remains high in sport [Broglio 2009, Rowson 2012]. Researchers speculate rotation of the head leads to shear strain on the brain tissue, which may be the underlying mechanism of injury leading to concussive type injuries [Gennarelli 1971, Ommaya 1974, Gennarelli 1982, Prange 2002, Gilcrhist 2003, Aare 2003, Zhang 2004, Takhounts 2008, Greenwald 2008, Meaney 2011]. This has led researchers to investigate new liner materials and technologies to improve helmet performance and include concussive injury risk protection by attempting to address rotational acceleration of the brain [Mills 2003, Benson 2009, Caserta 2011, Caccese 2013]. To improve current football helmet designs, technology must be shown to reduce the motion of the brain, resulting in lower magnitudes of dynamic response thus reducing maximum principal strain and the corresponding risk of injury [Margulies 1992, Zhang 2004, Mills 2003, Kleiven 2007, Yoganandan 2008 Caserta 2011, McAllister 2012, Caccese 2013, Post 2013, Fowler 2015, Post 2015a/b]. Recent research has studied the use of decoupling liner systems in addition to the existing liner technology, to address resultant rotational acceleration. However, none of this previous work has evaluated the results in terms of the relationship between brain motion, tissue strain, and injury risk reduction. This thesis hypothesises the use of decoupling strategies to reduce the dominant coordinate component of acceleration in order to decrease maximum principal strain values. The dominant component of acceleration, defined as the coordinate component with the highest contribution to the resultant acceleration for each impact, is a targetable design parameter for helmet innovation. The objective of this thesis was to demonstrate the effect liner strategies to reduce the dominant component of rotational acceleration to decrease maximum principal strain in American football helmets.

▼ Ovarian steroids assist in the development of the follicle and its enclosed oocyte as well as prepare the maternal environment for pregnancy. The objective of experiment 1 was to elucidate the differences between dominant follicles of each follicular wave in terms of intra-follicular concentration of steroids after 4 d of dominance. Differences in blood perfusion between the dominant follicle of the first and second non-ovulatory wave were also examined. Follicular waves were monitored daily via ultrasonography from emergence to aspiration of the dominant follicle. It was determined that although the dominant follicles aspirated from ovulatory waves possessed a greater concentration of estradiol and a greater ratio of estradiol to progesterone, there was no difference in concentrations of steroid hormones or the ratio of estradiol to progesterone between dominant follicles collected from non-ovulatory waves and ovulatory waves. In a subset of cows, blood perfusion tended to be greater in dominant follicles that developed during the second non-ovulatory wave. The objective of experiment 2 was to determine whether or not the follicular wave had an effect on diameter of the ovulatory follicle, thickness of the endometrium, or subsequent pregnancy rates. Estrus was synchronized in females in such a way that females would ovulate the dominant follicle of the first or second follicular wave at timed artificial insemination. Diameter of the ovulatory follicle and endometrial thickness were not different between treatments; however, increased pregnancy rates were observed in heifers that ovulated the dominant follicle of the second follicular wave. There was no effect of follicular wave on pregnancy rates in cows. In conclusion, the role of follicular wave on the dominant follicle, maternal environment, and subsequent pregnancy rates is not fully understood. Additional experiments need to be conducted to further elucidate the differences in developmental potential of the oocyte and maternal environment when the dominant follicle of the first and second wave are destined to become the ovulatory follicle at timed insemination.
