▼ Background: The fast growing tourism industry increases the need for new destinations to meet the markets demand. Because of this, destination development becomes a part of tourism development and it can therefore be interesting and relevant to study this phenomenon. It requires consciousness about the destination’s conditions and to what extent tourism can be developed. The study of these conditions can be useful as they are fundamental for future tourism development at a destination. Purpose: The purpose of this study is to describe and analyze which conditions and characteristics a place should have to become an attractive destination. Methodology: This study has been executed from a positivistic point of view and a quantitative approach. The collection of data has been carried out through five semi-structured interviews. Conclusions: This study has reached the conclusion that developing tourism at a destination requires a number of specific characteristics, but that these may vary depending on the type of destination. There are several characteristics but the most emphasized are attractions and activities, accessibility and infrastructure, amenities, political stability and safety.

The development and marketing of a destination can contribute with benefits such as employment growth and infrastructural improvements. At the same time, uncontrolled exploitation can have the reverse effect and work negatively on sensible cultural- and natural environments. Knowledge about these effects has, in discussions and literature about destination development, led to the dominating roll of the perspective of planning. Meanwhile there are other important factors to consider when looking to the big spectra. In this context collaboration, networking and destination marketing becomes significant aspects to review. With a focus on, and theoretical preunderstanding for, these concepts this thesis will focus on the two case-studies of Ornö and Utö, two neighbouring islands in the archipelago of Stockholm, Sweden. In spite of their physical similarity the two islands have undergone very different developments as tourism destinations. The purpose with this thesis will therefore be to determine how the concepts of collaboration, network and destination marketing have influenced the development of the islands.

▼ The authors have during the spring semester 2011 studied the subject destination development during a political crisis, focusing on Tunisia. At the beginning of 2011 the country was in an uncertain political situation when the revolution of the Tunisian people occurred. This created massive demonstrations on the streets, and resulted in the current government's resignation. More effects of the revolution has been seen in a drastic decline of inbound tourists in the country, which in turn affected the country's population and economy. From this point on Tunisia as a destination needs to recover to once again become attractive to tourists. Further revolutions in neighboring countries such as Libya, have contributed to the tourists' reluctance to travel to Tunisia. From this point of view, the tourist operators stand in front of a challenge in how they best can highlight the destination, and the positive impacts the revolution has contributed with. The purpose of this paper is from a destination development perspective examine how organizations in Sweden work to regain tourists to Tunisia after a period of decline. To answer this purpose, the authors use of these following questions: How have the revolution of the people in the spring of 2011 affected the tourism industry in Tunisia? <em>How do the various tourist operators in Sweden relate to the revolution of the people in Tunisia 2011? </em><em>Could it be that this revolution in spite of demonstrations and unrest contributes to something positive for the tourism industry in Tunisia? </em> The methodology used in this paper is qualitative in nature, where a number of respondents in Sweden were interviewed to seek answers to selected questions. A constructivist approach was applied in which reality is seen as constantly changing and is created by ongoing processes that change over time. Destination Development, image and recovery are the key concepts covered in the theoretical framework. Destinations may occur at various stages in its life cycle. This is to portray how a destination can evolve to stagnation and at worst die out. Tunisia is in a phase of decline after the revolution in which people are waiting for tourists to return to the country. The results of the survey show that the revolution in 2011 has affected the tourism industry in that it has contributed to a decline of inbound tourists. The country´s image has been affected and there is now a challenge for organizations in Sweden to improve this image to regain tourists from Sweden to Tunisia. The vision for Tunisia as a destination is that despite the great social changes create a stable and democratic society, and highlight the revolutionary message of a new, more open Tunisia, which in turn creates attractiveness for the tourism industry.

Digital devices are nowadays a common strategy in marketing communication and destination development. Despite this, we find the literature on the subject limited. Therefore, this study has strived towards an immersed understanding of Göteborg & Co:s digital device Evenemangskalendern (Event Calendar). It is a digital listing where tourists can find the current events offered in Gothenburg. The questions produced revolves around relevant control documents for the calendar and Göteborg & Co:s view at the use of the calendar as a device for marketing communication. With a background in destination marketing, an inductive case study has taken form with interviews, observations and document analysis. The study is limited to four qualitative interviews, four observation objects and six documents. All with focus on Göteborg & Co:s own material and employees. The result from these sources has in a discussion been merged with theory within destination development, marketing communication, and organization theory. The study shows that the Event Calendar is not included in the solid marketing communication analysis that the rest of goteborg.com go through. The calendar has no fixed processes regarding benchmarking or visitor statistics. This could be due to the fact that the operative work is being executed at another physical place than the strategic work. There is also a limitation in how Göteborg & Co defines a tourist.

▼ Increased travel has led to greater competition between destinations. Therefore, actors in the tourism industry are constantly seeking new ways to remain competitive, in which collaborations have often been viewed as a solution. This study will focus on the collaboration in tourism issues in the Umeå region, Sweden. The aim of this study is to examine, from a producer perspective, opportunities and challenges for collaboration between different actors in the municipality of Umeå and Bjurholm. The study also examines whether and how Bjurholm municipality can be a shadow destination to Umeå. To do this, interviews were conducted with various actors in the municipality of Umeå and Bjurholm. The results show that the differences between the municipalities are both seen as a great opportunity but also a major challenge for the collaboration. Furthermore, the study found that Bjurholm shows some characteristics of being a shadow destination to Umeå.

▼ The aim of this study is to examine how Belgrade as a tourist destination was affected by previous political disorder during the 1990’s on the query of destination image, destination branding and destination development. The research also discussed how different actors in the public and private sectors work on the issue and how international tourists’ perspectives look like in relation to this topic. A qualitative method was applied through semi-structured and structured interviews with three actors within tourism sector, one from the public sector, and further 15 interviews with international tourists. The study's results show that Belgrade, as a tourist destination, was mainly affected by the civil war in the 1990’s. The war created a negative destination image, undefined destination branding and a non-sustainable destination development. The following led to, reduced number of incoming tourists and economic stagnation, which resulted in a lack of resources to invest in destination development. It created a negative destination image in a global aspect, and in addition to that international tourists usually associated Belgrade with insecurity and political instability. However, tourism started to increase following the new political regime approximately 10 years ago, when major efforts were made by both international and national investors. Accordingly, actors within various private and public sectors are involved in expanding tourism products, increasing marketing efforts and placing the destination on an international tourism market.

▼ Experience economy is about different industries which try to create experiences and activities for their customers. Previous researchers have been putting experience economy together with sports, electronic sports and destination development for example. Experience economy can be connected to different destinations and industries. This qualitative study connects experience economy to South of Öland, based on their current situation. The aim of this study is to explore the potentials of experience-based tourism in south of Öland as a way to develop the attractiveness of the region. This stud is examining the stakeholders of Mörbylånga, a municipality in South of Öland and their target groups in order to see how the south of Öland can develop the region as an attractive destination by using their resources effectively. In order to give Mörbylånga a recommendation of how they can improve their destination attractiveness and also to provide a theoretical contribution with a conceptual model based on tourism experiences

▼ This thesis assesses the significance and importance of attributes of tourism destination competitiveness, contributing to the competitiveness of destinations at different stages of development. In examining principal attributes contributing to the competitiveness of tourism destinations, when the stage of development or evolution of a destination is considered; this thesis addresses an area of theory deemed to have ‘been totally neglected by tourism researchers to date’ (Dwyer & Kim 2003, p. 406).
Four research questions are attended to by means of both qualitative and quantitative methodologies. Research Question One asks: What critical attributes affect the competitiveness of tourism destinations?; Research Question Two: How do the critical destination attributes contribute to the competitiveness of developing and maturing destinations?; Research Question Three: To what extent is the importance of destination attributes, to consumers, affected by demographic subgroups?; and Research Question Four: Do developing and mature destinations perform differently in relation to the destination attributes from a consumer perspective?
Two case destinations on the East Coast of Australia, namely the Coffs Coast tourism region, and the Great Lakes tourism region, were selected to address this research agenda. These competing destinations were identified as being at differing stages of their development (mature/signs of stagnation versus developing/consolidating respectively). In order to identify a set of tourism–specific competiveness items recognised to apply to regional Australian destinations (such as the Coffs Coast and Great Lakes tourism regions), at least as a first step, a study based on the views of local tourism stakeholders was justified as a useful starting point in distinguishing critical attributes of destination competitiveness. According to the results of focus group discussions, key destination stakeholders endorsed that those attributes believed to be most important to a destination at the mature stage of its life cycle (showing signs of stagnation), were quite different to those attributes regarded as being critically important to developing destinations. These findings declare that advantages do exist in adapting destination competitiveness strategies, whereby consideration is given to the life cycle experienced by a tourism destination.
The thesis also identified the importance of competitiveness elements from a consumer’s perspective. Tourism destination competitiveness literature rarely seeks to present empirical findings based on the views of consumers (Dwyer et al. 2003, Crouch 2007). This research established that consumers considered those attributes linked to the management of a destination to be the most important attributes of destination competitiveness.
Additionally, it is shown in this thesis that the performance of a destination can be tempered by a destination’s stage of development. The repercussion of a destination’s stage of development on the performance of a destination, whilst…

▼ Stockholm is considered as a tourist destination which has a lot of offers to attract tourists and if it utilizes it water better it can give a wonderful and unique experiences and cold baths may become an image to it. The aim of this study is to shed light on the open-air swimming-baths and shores of Stockholm. Also how to use this advantage as it’s a city based on many islands, the purest water in Europe and this makes Stockholm as a destination a very attractive place for tourism. For a better understanding of our study, we have studied the quality and quantity to see how people began to exploit open-air swimming-baths throughout history everywhere in Europe and specifically of Stockholm city sea shore. We did a study on the history traditions of open-air swimming-baths and how it can be a tourist attraction through books and interviews, scientific articles and our personal observation, so that we can analyze how to develop sustainable tourism in the future and how Stockholm city can make development of opportunities for the future. Research has shown that the City does not focus specifically on cold baths, their marketing is on permanent attractions focusing on culture and events to attract tourists. Equally important is the range of secondary and tertiary attractions at your destination and give a greater value for the tourist. The growth of the tourism benefits the city, local businesses and local people including contributing to more jobs. Some players feel that the demand for swimming in Stockholm's city center has risen and some not, but they agree that demand is high. It is interesting to know whether the open-air baths in the future could become part of Stockholm's image or not.

▼ The purpose of this study, written in Swedish, is to study two of the most popular sportsevents in Sweden; Vasaloppet and Göteborgsvarvet (Gothenburg Half Marathon) and theaffect the events has on the host destinations and also how the organizers use the destinationsfor their development. The study also shows how municipalities and public authorities connected to destinationdevelopment handles these events for their own purpose in their destination marketing todevelop their destination and improve the destination image. To achieve the purpose of the study, the following research questions has been formulated:“How does the municipality work with these events to improve the development of thedestination?” and “How does Vasaloppet and Göteborgsvarvet affect the destinations and howdoes the race events use their destination for their development?”Big events related to tourism is often organized by independent actors without any supportfrom the government controlled authorities. Despite that, the municipality or governmentcontrolled organizations will always have an an impact on these big events since they providethe essential infrastructure, transport, etc.One of the tools used in this study is semi structured interviews with 19 different, for thecases, relevant people, including the leaders within the organizing committees of Vasaloppetand Göteborgsvarvet. Interviews has also been made with the municipalities and otherpartners to the organizers. As a complement to these interviews, we have also interviewed afew participants from the two races. The study is also complemented with media articles andother previous research in the subject. The study identifies a strong dependency between the organizers and destinations that goesboth ways. The conclusion clearly shows the needs of cooperation and support between all theinvolved organizations to be able to achieve the best possible result and development. Thestudy reveals how all the involved organizations cooperates and works in relation to eachother and what could be done in other ways to optimize the best conditions for development.
▼ This essay will examine the visitors' view of destination South Djurgården and the impact that tourism provides in them. South Djurgården belongs to Stockholm where the boundary between the southern and northern Djurgården is Djurgårdsbrunnsviken and Djurgårdsbrunnskanalen. The reason we chose South Djurgården is because the biggest and famous attractions of Stockholm are there. In this essay we have used a combination of qualitative and quantitative methods. We conducted the survey through questionnaires and deep interviews. Moreover, we have applied the previous research and theories of the concept of destination, destination development and tourism impacts. The results of the survey showed that visitors want it to be cheaper on attractions, logistics facilities and guided tours. Visitors want also that the attractions should be renewed and adapted to all audiences. And that cooperation between actors in South Djurgården should be improved in order to have a successful destination development.

▼ The purpose of this essay was to formulate a strategic development plan for Piteå with the aim of becoming a successful ice-skating destination. The question at issue is therefore, how can Piteå become a successful ice-skating destination? We used a qualitative method and to gather material we executed five interviews and processed relevant literature on destination development. We used an abductive approach which favors a work process where we start with reality and then work our way to the theoretical realm, we then returned to reality and then advance to the theoretical realm once more, this works by verifying formulated theories by testing them in reality. We analyzed the results with a pre-understanding of experience production and economy and concluded that a strategic development plan for Piteå as an ice-skating destination should contain ways to;• Work with destination development on a municipal level• Execute and apply a risk analysis and a contingency plan• Maintain an economic, social and environmental sustainable destination• Create an image for Piteå as a winter destination• Offer events of a certain experience qualityWe reached the conclusion that Piteå have great possibilities to become a successful ice-skating destination, in order to achieve this, there has to be collaboration between the population, the municipality and the local businesses towards a common goal.

▼ Over the past century the phenomenon of thanatourism, or dark tourism, has become increasingly popular, with tourists now able to encounter death at a wide range of sites across the world. While much scholarship has focused on tourism at sites of disaster and atrocity, less research has taken place into thanatourism in a museum context. This thesis investigates how Gotlands Museum is offering its visitors a dark tourism experience by adopting thanatourism theming in its exhibitions and programmes. It explores the ways the museum presents Gotland’s dark history, asks how and why the museum has adopted thanatourism as a thematisation strategy, and considers whether this strategy is helping the institution achieve future sustainability. This study is based on in-depth interviews with current staff members at the museum, who have been involved with creating exhibitions and presenting programmes related to Gotland’s dark history. Detailed observation of the exhibitions Medieval Gotland and 1361 – The Battle for Gotland, as well as the guided city tour The Bloody Summer, also provide additional data. The study finds that Gotlands Museum has harnessed the ‘purposeful Otherness’ of death through implementing thanatourism theming in both its permanent exhibitions and public programming in order to reach new and wider audiences. It also finds that this is an example of the museum embracing new museology and adopting the customer-centric focus of the tourism industry by presenting thrilling exhibitions and programmes to attract more visitors. The study suggests that by implementing popular thanatourism-themed exhibitions and programmes, Gotlands Museum has been able to be economically, socially and culturally sustainable by attracting visitors, educating diverse groups, telling diverse stories and preserving Gotland’s history for future generations.

▼ Natural areas around the world are being
planned, designed and promoted as ecotourism destinations.
International organizations such as the United Nations have
advocated for sustainable
development through sound environmental
practices that include the implementation of tourism initiatives
within protected natural areas. Though not universally endorsed as
truly sustainable, ecotourism is being incorporated nonetheless
into the
development plans of many countries around the
world. The management plan for the Central
Balkan National Park (CBNP) in Bulgaria has called for ecotourism
development within the park and surrounding communities. Protecting
the biological integrity of natural areas within the park and
successfully managing those same areas for ecotourism
development
requires congruency between the image that visitors have of the
park as an ecotourism
destination and the strategized image that
the park planners have envisioned. Creating and managing an
appropriate
destination image is important for effective
positioning of the park as an ecotourism site.
This study examines the ecotourism
destination image held
by visitors to the CBNP and provides a baseline measurement and
assessment of the CBNP's
destination image. Purpose of the study
was to describe the visitors to the park and to explore whether
destination image is mediated by visitors' demographic profile and
experience within the park. Specifically, the study explored the
independent variables that might influence a visitor's evaluation
of the park attributes defining
destination image as an ecotourism
site. The survey instrument was a questionnaire
available in either the Bulgarian or English languages.
Participants were convenienced sampled and participation was
voluntary (n=195). Study results showed weak
association between
destination image and the independent variables
investigated. Only visit frequency and salience of ecotourism
attributes were found to be statistically significant. This
suggests that a
subject's image of the park as an ecotourism venue
is influenced by the number of times the park had been previously
visited. Further, salience results suggest that park visitors who
most value the ectourism attributes in the study were likely to
rate the park higher as an ecotourism
destination.

The Tourism is now considered a driver of growth and a major means for economic and social development of a country, contributing to poverty reduction by creating employment for families, especially in developing countries pathway.
The tourist development potential of a locality are a function of resources but its growth depends on the ability of the value and the creation of new pull factors. In this sense, this work aims to analyse the potential of Guinea-Bissau as a tourist destination, especially nature tourism. In terms of methodology, a descriptive study was conducted through a questionnaire to 56 respondents. Based on the analysis of the data collected were prepared one-PEST and SWOT matrix and a matrix to Guinea-Bissau.

▼ The tourism industry has continuously grown in the last fifty years, promoted economic growth and created jobs (UNWTO, 2017). Nevertheless, this industry is impacting and greatly stressing natural environments and societies inciting a transformation towards a more sustainable form of tourism practices (Williams & Ponsford, 2009). The United Nations General Assembly declared 2017 as the International Year of Sustainable Tourism for Development (UNWTO, 2016). The purpose of the declaration was to position the tourism industry as a tool to address the Universal 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development with its 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) (UNWTO, 2016). A backcasting participatory approach was used to explore the roles of the SDGs in creating future sustainable tourism destinations, using Swedish Lapland as a reference. The study uses backcasting as a method together with a literature review and semi-structured interviews to key stakeholders. The study concludes that SDGs are good parameters to describe current scenarios in order to develop desired ones. It also finds that sustainable future tourism destinations are highly connected with environment and society as part of the core experience, resecting traditions and culture. In order to achieve sustainable future destinations legislation, better practices and alternative methods of transportation need to be implemented alongside creating an experience that is based on responsibility towards nature and societies.

▼ An increasing global tourism offers great opportunities for Sweden as a tourist destination. However, an attractive destination requires competitive destination marketing strategies. Tourist destinations often include a complex network of stakeholders of small and large en-terprises that represent both the public and private sector. One condition for successful des-tination marketing is that all of these stakeholders collaborate in their marketing to create an integrated and powerful image. Another important aspect in terms of increasing the des-tinations competitiveness is that the local tourist companies are "export-oriented", in order to ensure that international tourists are looked after appropriately. This study has focused on the destination marketing of Stockholm. The aim of the study was to find out to what extent the local tourist companies collaborate in their marketing, how "export-oriented" their marketing is, and who ultimately controls the tourism development of the destination. The organisation in charge of coordinating the destination marketing of Stockholm is the local government organisation Stockholm Visitors Board (SVB). We interviewed them plus six local tourism companies to study if and how they collaborate in their marketing. The study showed that some of the smaller businesses felt excluded from the marketing activities due to lack of financial resources. SVB also has a product that competes with a product of a pri-vate tourist company. This result has a negative effect on SVB’s reputation as being the offi-cial representative of Stockholm, and leads to a more fragmented destination marketing. For SVB to change this negative image they need to build good relationships with the local tour-ist companies and adjust their pricing policy so that the smaller companies can participate in their marketing activities. The local tourist companies did however participate in other forms of marketing collaborations, which is a first step toward more integrated destination marketing. Some companies were more "export-oriented" than others, which mean that the foreign tourists are subject to varying standards of service. Despite this, the majority displayed an awareness of their role on the destination; that they together with other tourism companies form the "tourist product" that is Stockholm. Nonetheless, more thorough market research is needed to learn more about what foreign tourists want and expect from their visit to Stockholm. In that way Stockholm as a destination can become more competitive interna-tionally. We also interviewed the Swedish Agency for Economic and Regional Growth (Tillväxtverket), which is the public authority responsible for the tourism industry, in order to find out who is in charge of the tourism development of the destination. We found that the tourism devel-opment of Stockholm is purely market driven. This can have a negative effect on sustainabil-ity issues. Our proposal for future research is therefore to examine which are the mecha-nisms that drive…

▼ In the era of globalization, countries compete with each other for attention, respect and trust of potential consumers, investors, tourists, media and governments of other nations. Branding is the most powerful tool that a nation can utilize for effective differentiation strategies and for creating competitive advantage over other nations. Unfortunately, not every nations or destination marketers have a broad understanding of the concept of branding and how a country can be successfully branded. Hence, this study has proposed a model that could be used as a valuable guide for country branding. Also the model is recommended for countries struggling with image crisis; on the mission to improve the image internationally. Nigeria is a good example of countries with image crisis; it is one of the most populated countries in the world with a population of about 160 million inhabitants and growth rate of 2.553percent annually. Despite the abundant resources (e.g. coal, petroleum, natural gas etc.) that the nation is endowed with, it is quite disappointing that the population below poverty line is still at the alarming rate of 70percent of the total population. The mismanagement and poor leadership of the nation characterised by corruption, fraud, embezzlement of public fund etc. has culminated into serious image crisis that is slowing down the potential for investment and economic growth. However, there has been series of image rebranding campaigns but no tangible achievement has been recorded. It is quite questionable though, if image rebranding will provide the kind of future that Nigeria envisaged, considering the socio-political situation and the economic imbalance; compounded by the obvious fact that the nation has no known brand. Therefore, this paper argues that there is need to redirect the effort invested on image rebranding to the creation of a unique and competitive brand for the country. It was established from the study that a nation’s brand is capable of improving the reputation of the nation as well as stimulate the expectation of the target audience. However, it was also established from the study that a wrong approach to branding could mislead the target audience and attract negative publicity. Hence, as a contribution of the study to the field of branding, a model was proposed as a functional guide for country branding. Also, considering the abysmal performance of Nigeria’s image in the international community and to strengthen the argument that brand creation is required for the country; an experimental application of the proposed model was conducted using Nigeria as the case country. The first phase of the model suggested a major improvement in the society; this is required to further enhance the strengths of the country and to motivate the much needed community participation and confidence in the brand creation. It is the conclusion of the study that a strong nation brand can offset the image problem if it is built on something concrete, genuine, and uniquely identifiable with the…

▼ Seal-based tourism in the Umeå archipelago Its possibilities and problems Marcus Vidberg Abstract Seal-based tourism is something that can be found throughout the world, including Sweden, which led to the question of why there is a lack of it in the region of Umeå. Studying the ecological conditions in the area has led to the conclusion that the Umeå archipelago has all the prerequisites for establishing a seal-based activity, meaning that there are more circumstances surrounding the possibilities of seal-based tourism. To fully understand the topic, one needs to study it from several different points of view, including the ecological, economical and socio-cultural aspects. There are a lot of different opinions surrounding the seals that need to be taken in to account before one reaches a conclusion. Furthermore it is also necessary to study the topic of tourism; globally, locally and its development. With a growing demand for nature-based tourism around the world, shouldn’t it be possible to establish a seal-based one in the Swedish north? The report also studies the already established operations throughout Sweden, to try to understand why the activities are located in some regions but not in others. The conclusion that has been reached in this report is that the ecological circumstances for a seal-based tourism exists in the Umeå archipelago, but a seal-based operation might find its biggest straits to be the economical and socio-cultural conditions.

▼ Purpose: The study is based on analyzing how different organizations organize and market tourism in the Haninge archipelago. The study compares the organizations on Utö and Dalarö with a tourism organization in Gamla Stan, to see if there are any similarities and differences in the strategic planning process. Method: This study is based more on words than on numbers. Which means that it is a qualitative study that contains (7) pieces of semi-structured interviews and two observations of the destinations Dalarö and Utö. The interviews and observations give a greater understanding of how to plan for tourism and also emphasize how important it is for actors to plan their business, to reach out to existing customers but also to attract new customers. Theory: The theories used include strategic planning, strategic marketing, product differentiation and SWOT analysis. These are used to gather information about how the organizations plan their businesses, what products they offer and their goals with tourism. Result: The result showed that the organizations focus on various issues and the strategic planning process is not mentioned by many. The tourism organization in Gamla Stan emphasizes the importance of a clear planning process that includes the whole staff and how important it is to follow guidelines with restrictions to prevent tourism from harming the environment. The organizations on Dalarö and Utö focused more on how to deliver information and service to best meet the tourists.

▼ This qualitative field study is conducted on the Andaman Islands in India and focuses on the sustainable destination development and SCUBA diving tourism. The island in focus, Havelock, is an emerging tourist destination and an international airport is scheduled to open in the Andamans in 2021. The topic is approached through observation and interviews with people involved with the SCUBA diving industry, selected informants, and diving tourists. Different scales that operate with the island’s development - global, national, regional and local - are investigated. Global warming poses a threat to the coral reefs that is the main resource for tourism at the location and the longterm residents’ education in the subject is absent. The communication between state and nation is a problem as laws are passed without participation or awareness from the local community which makes it difficult for businessowners to invest. Furthermore, diver motivation and satisfaction are investigated. The main motivation of beginner level diving tourists from India are not educated in how the underwater world looks like, but are motivated to see what they already know through movies like “Finding Nemo”. The study reveals that a degraded coral reef does not affect diver satisfaction where the divers are not educated in how a healthy reef looks like. The local Marine Protected Area - Rani Jhansi Marine National Park - is in 2019 funded by the government and there are currently no entrance fees for diving tourists. However, this has been proved successful in other destinations. The Marine Protected Area is perceived as positive by the local SCUBA industry, but it is not interacting with its regulation and governing.

Pridobljene podatke smo nato analizirali, povzeli in predstavili, z njihovo pomočjo preverili zastavljene hipoteze in podteze, ter podali zaključne izsledke raziskave.
Upamo, da bo izdelan model uporaben pripomoček prihodnjim snovalcem razvoja turistične destinacije Žička kartuzija z okolico in navdih drugim manjšim podeželskim turističnim destinacijam po Sloveniji (in v tujini), ki še iščejo svoje edinstvene razlikovalne lastnosti. Morda jih to delo navdahne, da jih poiščejo v svoji bogati in edinstveni preteklosti.
Modern tourist destinations have to look for their opportunities on an increasingly demanding tourist market through innovative approaches and highlighting their competitive advantages, otherwise they blend into the average and sooner or later disappear from the tourist map. Smaller, rural tourist destinations have to work on these issues even more intensively. It is important for them to look for their unique distinguishing features that make them different from others and…

▼ The purpose of this paper is to describe and analyse the Chinese destination of Hainan, with background in a globalizing tourism destination development, for tourism from Finland and Sweden. The questions at issue are regarding what kind of an impact the status as a special economic zone have had upon Hainan, what kind of conditions there are for tourism on the island, in what form participants of the tourism industry want the development to proceed, what the prevailing trend is for distant destinations for Nordic markets and also regarding what kind of potential there is for organized tourism to Hainan from Finland and Sweden. As a foundation for the paper, I’ve composed a theoretical reference for knowledge of China, Hainan and the study of destinations. The sources of secondary kind are literature related to the subject. The primary sources are mainly interviews, field work done at Hainan has given a concrete and personal knowledge of the place. The interviews are with Finnish and Swedish travel operators, Chinese embassy representatives in Finland and Sweden, on Hainan both Nordic tourists and tourism industry stakeholders were interviewed. The analysis bring forth that Hainan do have relatively good conditions for tourism. The destination has gone through a relatively rapid development, mainly focused upon domestic tourism. The development has led to an infrastructure for tourism, and as experienced during my visit, this is obvious through widespread tourism related building. The status of Hainan as a Special Economic Zone, received during the late 1980s, has facilitated the development of tourism. Although the status has lost its real function as once had, favourable conditions facilitated rapid tourism development, giving as an example tourism development zones. The prevailing development of Hainan, is the making of a top class resort destination. This is foremost aimed at the domestic market, but increasing at international markets such as the Nordic ones. The participants on Hainan seem to have a relatively common standpoint, in the process of attracting increasing amounts of Nordic visitors. Regarding Finnish and Swedish operators, distant destinations seem to have a certain degree of development possibilities. As flexible means of travel increases, changes are given upon the volume of travel. Connected to this, is different resulting opportunities for destinations, depending on volume and demand from tourists. Hainan being a distant destination, would need large volumes to justify significant arrangements. Finnish and Swedish operators are somewhat interested of Hainan, although varying depending on operator and to a great deal on the current small volumes. In conclusion, Hainan represents a globalizing tourism destination development, giving new tourism places. There is need of accomplishing demand in Finland and Sweden for Hainan, to get pronounced volumes of organised arrangements. Tough competition give the need for a proactive and aggressive approach from the participants of Hainan to…

▼ The title of this paper is The Experience Economy: Domino or Dynamo. A symbiosis not commonly used, but the author means to explain the experience economy like a dynamo (similar to one on a bike) which generates power to an implemented area, in this case destination development. In many countries of the world where there are creative industries, the economy that emerges from these industries has developed into an experience economy. Typical for the experience economy is that it depends on several actors with different skills and the environment in which it exists. The author wishes to raise awareness of this fast-growing economy, which is an integral part in the operations of many international companies. Hence, this paper argues that there is a link between the creative industries, experience production and a vibrant experience economy. In this quest, the author will lean on a case study developed in Indonesia. Developing countries frequently lack the necessary infrastructure for a successful tourism industry. Furthermore, many of these countries lack the tools to develop organizational strategies for sustainable use of tourism for national development: As this study shows, the experience economy has the potential to help developing countries generate economic growth. This is a qualitative study – based on a case study in Indonesia, conducted at place called Telunas Beach. Through first hand experiences, interviews, literature review and research done at the location – the author has gathered data about strategies from the private and public sector, and will present findings. This will hopefully inspire and encourage further research into the fascinating topic of the experience economies role within destination development. The case study presented in this paper will provide the reader with insights from a producer’s perspective that can trigger new thinking and create an interest in exploring this issue from additional angles.

▼ Business Administration
Extant literature identified the value of innovative firm behavior for organizational success for manufacturers and service providers (Christensen, 1998; Damanpour, 1991; de Brentani, 1993; Easingwood, 1986; Schumpeter, 1939; Senge, 1994). Increasing complexity of consumer markets, information technologies and an economic environment that forces organizations to rethink their business strategies are especially characteristic for service providers, making the development of new services an essential, but also risky task. A series of organizational conditions, such as a formalized new products/service development process, managerial support for innovation and a culture that encourages innovation were identified as critical for the successful development of innovations. Little research, however, has been done to understand the role of partners for the development of new service, and in particular to evaluate which aspects of new service development benefit the most from partner involvement.
To understand the link between organizational settings for innovation and inter-organizational relationships in the new service development process, this study incorporates three areas of research: innovation, supply chain management and inter-organizational relationships. This study was framed within tourism destinations, especially destination marketing organizations (DMOs). They are responsible to market and develop a destination and, due to their role as information intermediaries, their need to collaborate with destination businesses to deliver a seamless tourism experience. This study consists of two major phases. First, a national study among the population of American DMOs was conducted to identify the extent of innovation, the drivers of partner integration in new service development as well as their impact on new services. Second, the value of organizational innovation settings on partnership integration was identified.
Study results provide insight into the current status of innovation development and partner integration in the new service development process. The results also indicate that the nature of DMOs was changing from pure marketing organizations to management organizations that actively participate in destination development through innovation. In this study innovation was measured by three core elements: orientation towards demand, strategic and corporate fit as well as newness. DMOs do collaborate with partners to develop new tourism products and services. Partner integration was driven by top management support, as well as a strategic and long-term perspective towards partnerships. Furthermore, partner integration was found to have a positive effect on the strategic and corporate fit as well as market orientation. Lastly, DMOs that organize for the development of new services were found to achieve a more positive effect on innovation.
This study concluded that organizations strategically need to engage in inter-organizational relationships with the goal to incorporate partners in…

Studien ville undersöka HBTQ-personers åsikter på Stockholm och dess varumärke “The Capital of Scandinavia”.

Background: In the year 2030 Stockholm is going to be a metropolis and a city of world class events, in accordance with the City of Stockholm's Vision 2030. Until then, among other objectives for greater entrepreneurship and development in tourism, increased quality in education and increased collaboration between the private and public sector must be achieved and realized. The Stockholm Arena is part of that vision, as a piece of the infrastructure puzzle needed to attain the status of being an event city of world class. Purpose: The purpose of this thesis is…

▼ The purpose of this study was to analyze two local tourism related organizations in Umeå and how they used the marketing method Storytelling. The aim of this study was to examine what kind of stories the tourism related organizations were using, what these stories said in a direct, or in-direct way and how the reception was of the stories and the destinations. A qualitative study in the form of a discourse analysis based on Laclau and Mouffe's view on discourse analysis was conducted. The results of this study shows that storytelling is more effective when it is incorporated in the whole destination/organization when it comes to tourism related organizations and destinations. It also shows that storytelling in itself isn't only an innocent and positive tool and can cause negative feelings if used wrongly for an organization/destination. This study therefor strongly supports Mossberg (2008) that credibility to the destination is important for a good story and also supports Mossberg and Jensen (1999) about physical surroundings and senses are important. This study also shows that more study is needed when it comes to storytelling used for tourism related destinations to give a more clear picture of what makes a good or appreciated storytelling that generates a good reception for tourism destinations. It also shows that more study is needed surrounding questions about what kind of tourism related destinations and organizations that benefit more from storytelling and which ones will recieve more of an unnecessary impression - or of it is usefeul for every tourism related organization or destination.

▼ Although Georgia has experienced dramatic increases in the number of visitors over the past decade Swedish travellers are absent in the arrival statistics. Visitors from Eastern Europeans account for the majority of the increase in arrivals. This thesis attempts to understand what is missing in order for Swedish tourists to discover Georgia as a destination. This is done by interviewing Swedish tour operators and surveying Swedish visitors to Georgia. The results are analyzed in the framework of Leiper’s theory of destination competitiveness. A SWOT analysis is also used to structure the analysis, and the thesis suggests some benchmark measures that could be used to implement a systematic effort to improve the destination. The thesis concludes that Georgia indeed has a strong attractiveness on Swedish tourists, but that the main problems are connected with low awareness and lack of convenient transportation options. It is argued that these problems can be solved through improved marketing and entrepreneurship. Furthermore, the thesis highlights the need for Georgian destination managers to make choices today in order to shape the image of the country in the future. Georgia has a challenge to strengthen the authenticity that many travellers associate with the country, but is in a position to modernize by preserving traditions. Finally, it is argued that the results from this study are generalizable to include preferences of travellers from Western Europe in general, and therefore the study points to some significant opportunities available to Georgia.
