▼ Abstract This thesis explores the risk perception of
climate change among Egyptians who reside in Canada and Egyptians
who reside in Egypt. It applies a quantitative comparative analysis
of these two populations to assess differences in risk perception
of climate change and the influence of world views. Data for
Egyptian residents was taken from a World Bank study about global
perspectives on climate change; data for Canadian residents was
taken from two Egyptian associations in Alberta. To explore factors
associated with risk perception of climate change (and to explore
the Canadian social context of risk perception in more detail)
variables were added to the Canadian dataset such as access to
information about climate change, socio-economic conditions and
belief in self-responsibility. Results show that the Egyptian
population has a significantly higher risk perception of climate
change than the Egyptian Canadian population. Also there are
significant differences in the way world views are associated with
risk perception of climate change. Access to general knowledge
about climate change and belief in self-responsibility about
climate change was significantly associated with risk perception of
climate change in the Egyptian Canadian sample. This research
outcome raises questions about sources and content of this
knowledge of climate change, and implications for public risk
perception and policy development options for climate change
mitigation and adaptation.

▼ The purpose of this thesis is to explore methods of learning and teaching
cultural theory that differs from the traditional classroom-based methods. Using Jacques Derrida’s “Structure, Sign and Play,” I designed and created a videogame prototype that engages Derrida’s ideas in an interesting and accessible way. This thesis explores how the concept of play can be applied to
theory, and how the use of play can allow a deeper and more thorough understanding of
theory. These methods were born from a criticism of the elitism witnessed in both contemporary society and academia, as well as a desire to make
theory, especially
cultural theory, accessible to a wider audience.

▼ Culture has been increasingly one of the most interesting topics in cross-
cultural marketing research and
practice in recent years. The issues researched reflected the importance and the effects of culture on
customer demand, advertising, managerial behavior and business negotiation. Cross-
cultural knowledge
drives managers and international marketers to overcome this hidden entry barrier and thoroughly adapt to
a new
cultural environment. Culture is often defined as a set of learned characteristics that influences the
response of a group to its environment with many of the dynamics remaining invisible. Most of researchers
use two countries to test the differences at the national level, while some of researchers investigate the
underlying dimensions of their targeted
cultural values in specific country. With regard to the most attractive
destination for international ventures in Asia, pertaining to a lack of research is Vietnamese culture and
marketing, thus we choose Vietnam as a specific case to research.
In this master dissertation, we aim to discover the question of which dimension of Vietnamese culture can
be established as a new framework which effect Vietnamese consumption decisions and the impact on
devising marketing strategies for Multinational Corporations in Vietnam. Based on Grounded
Theory
research methodology, we conducted eight semi-structured interviews to eight different expatriates who are
professors in marketing, directors or international marketers are working in Vietnam. The emerged
theory of
Vietnamese culture including nine dimensions: Value of family and kinship system; Trust building; Master
over nature; Maintaining traditional beliefs; Hierarchical social structure; High context of communication;
Performance orientation; Independence of new generation and Self-reliance, clearly contributes to the
marketing research from both the theoretical and practical point of views. This research built a very first
theory of Vietnamese
cultural framework in the field of marketing and its potential implications on the
combined marketing strategy within international ventures.

▼ In this thesis I outline my
theory of translation as an interpretive tool. I undertake an analysis of the concepts of heteroglossia, hybridity, and positionality, as conceived of by Mikhail Bakhtin, Homi K. Bhabha, and Linda Alcoff, respectively. These ideas function similarly: heteroglossic forces are constantly being brought to bear upon languages, the hybrid nature of culture is continually being rearticulated, and the positionality of the interpreter is always
subject to change. I establish a
theory that allows for translation to remain open, a
theory that sees all incarnations of a text (the source and all of its translations) as being perpetually discursive, rather than fixing upon one version as the definitive or “correct” rendering. Translations occupy a fluctuating, unstable, and therefore creative location; they provide an ever-shifting temporal and spatial perspective. I translate excerpts from texts written by the Afro-German poet May Ayim and the Turkish German author Emine Sevgi Özdamar from German into English. This brings my
theory into application and demonstrates both the fluidity of translation and the depth of interpretation to be found within this process.

▼ The phenomenon of interracial couples who are also parents is on the increase in South Africa, since one in every four marriages is interracial. An empirical study was undertaken to conduct applied, exploratory, descriptive, evidence-based research to describe the perspectives of interracial parents as related to Gestalt Theory, parenting challenges and strategies towards a sense of self and cultural identity of their children.
A qualitative approach utilizing an open ended questionnaire and semi-structured interviews with six interracial parent couples was transcribed and analysed.
The study concluded that interracial parent couples’, in respect of dealing with societal-non-acceptance of themselves and their “mixed” children, utilize several strategies including avoidance and focusing on the positive; that certain aspects play a vital role in the formation of their children’s sense of self and cultural identity such as religion or faith and both parental identities. The implication of this research is that despite the challenges there are no marked effects on their children’s identity and that interracial parenting strategies must be sound.

Nesse contexto, a indústria cultural passaria a ocupar posição privilegiada no processo formativo.
The aim of this theoretical and bibliographic work is to analyze the education crisis, which is inserted in a broader training crisis, in the context of late capitalism. Impediments and possibilities of critical formative experience brought by Adorno were analyzed, from the study on how the cultural lag occurred during the historical development of bourgeois society. The ideological domination in late capitalism, identified at the beginning of bourgeois society by Marx and Engels, would be studied in more depth from the use of mass manipulation mechanisms. In this scenario, the cultural industry would occupy a privileged position in the…

This study starts from the following question: Is reflection possible in cultural industry? Today, the amplitude of this concept has reached proportions which, concentrating on the one hand on those who see in it a positivist sense, as an integrator system, and, on the other hand on those who are considered pessimistic, by conceiving the totalitarian system of the cultural industry as a synonym of the end of times, more and more sink into dualisms which prevent reflection, ignoring any possible ambiguities in society and in the system itself. Contrary of this point and in order to answer that question, this…

▼ Social science researchers have largely overlooked
chefs and the role they play in supporting small-scale farmers,
even though chefs are often cited as instigating the local food
movement. Chefs occupy a unique role in alternative food networks.
Their culinary skills and food knowledge position chefs as ideal
marketers and advocates for the quality ingredients being produced
in their foodsheds, thus providing a nexus for studying the
linkages between rural agricultural production practices and urban
consumption practices. This study examined the daily practices of
chefs in Alberta who procure and promote locally grown and raised
food products within their restaurants or food-service
establishments. Twenty-three chefs from the Calgary and Edmonton
regions were interviewed using open-ended questions to elicit
detailed information about the material conditions, the skills and
knowledge, and the values and meanings that encompass the "culture"
of being a "locavore" chef. This thesis documents the stories and
insights of these chefs to highlight the daily practices that these
chefs adopt and the challenges they face in sourcing ingredients
through non-conventional means. Their daily routines reveal the
integral importance of building social relationships with other
people within alternative food networks, indicating that building a
strong local foodshed requires finding synergy between social and
economic goals. By fostering inter-personal relationships with
farmers and customers, by sharing financial risks with farmers, and
by supporting the scaling-up of their local foodsheds these chefs
are helping to build more sustainable and resilient local food
supply chains across Alberta.

▼ This research aims to fill a research gap by examining WeChat to explore whether changes of social context would exert any influence on the information disclosure of social networking site (SNS) users. Selective Exposure Theory and Uses and Gratification Theory were used as the theoretical foundation for this study. Four-hundred Chinese college students in China and the U.S. who have a WeChat App and have logged in to use it within the last 30 days from the day administered were asked to participate in a survey about their motivations and consequences when using WeChat. Results from MANOVA showed that the motivations and consequences of female participants’ self-disclosure were significantly higher than were male participants on WeChat. Moreover, the social context of Chinese students studying in the U.S. is perceived to be more individualized than the traditionally collective context that is perceived by Chinese students studying in China.

▼ The primary objective of this research is to investigate the factors that shape, form or influence attitudes towards immigrants and immigration. Through a narrative review methodology the thesis draws upon 144 publications in order to identify the key findings across economic and psychological literature, as well as a focus on individual and national differences in attitudes. While the study incorporates broad international literature, it is contextualised in relation to three traditional countries of immigration with similar colonial-settler histories; Australia, Canada and New Zealand. The study has identified that this area of research is characterised by inconsistent, contradictory and inconclusive findings resulting from the application of very different disciplines, data sources and methodologies. The variety of scholarly opinions found in the literature has led to a rigorous and continuing debate regarding the key determinants of attitudes towards immigrants and immigration – whether they be positive or negative and under what circumstances. More specifically, the thesis has identified that economic and social psychological
theory offer quite divergent views on the matter of attitudes to immigrants and immigration. Economic
theory tends to suggest that native-born populations prefer immigrants who are dissimilar to themselves (largely in socio-economic status), whilst social psychological
theory suggests that native-born populations prefer immigrants who are similar to themselves (in terms of
cultural identity). Furthermore, positive attitudes are found amongst those who hold a sociotropic view towards society in general. Overall, the thesis asserts that there is room for improvement in the way that questions around attitudes are formulated and theorised, and ways to improve data collection and analysis methods that can more seriously take into account wider historical, social, economic and political processes.

▼ This study analyzes the bicycling community of Lexington, Kentucky. Interviews and participant observation were conducted in order to better understand the structure of Lexington’s cycling community, revealing three prominent groups/types of cyclists: (1) road cyclists, (2) underground/urban cyclists, and (3) commuters. The characteristics of each group are discussed, with particular attention devoted to the underground/urban cyclists, due to their politically-minded culture. Building from prior social movement literature, the unique framing processes of the underground/urban cycling group are analyzed in order to explore the group as a new social movement. Finally, the potential for a broader cycling movement based upon interests common to all cyclists is discussed.

▼ As museums develop their roles as social and political forces, the role of the exhibition designer has evolved and become more complex. The new role demands increased consideration as new technologies impact the demand for recreational learning experiences (Lake-Hammond & White, 2015). Nearly thirty years ago Pulitzer Prize-winning author Stephen Greenblatt introduced the terms ‘resonance and wonder’ to describe the viewer’s experience and connection to the exhibits. Greenblatt asserted both ‘resonance and wonder’ as essential to an exhibition experience but stressed the need for a balance between the two (1991). The significance of Greenblatt’s perspective has become more prominent with the current shift in museum exhibitions that engage technological forms of representation. This study asserts that Greenblatt’s argument continues to be relevant today, as museum professionals arbitrate the balances and imbalances posed between resonance, now interpreted as worth, and wonder. The terms were first defined through thematic analysis to identify consistent elements that produce the concepts and further applied to the narrative analysis on perspectives of technological integration in museums. Using the broader contemporary definitions of ‘wonder and worth’ this research then applied what was learned from the literature to a physical context by analysing use of wonder and worth in two current exhibitions; Te Papa’s 2015 “Gallipoli: Scale of Our War” and Cooper-Hewitt Design Museum’s 2014 interactive pen design. In doing so the main finding suggested that the balance of wonder and worth can be achieved through encouraging a human connection and empathy which can be extended with the use of new technologies that are appropriate for the intent of the exhibit. These findings were delivered in the form of a manifesto to facilitate the exhibition design process, encourage consideration for the balance between wonder and worth and lessen the stigma around technological representation in museums.

▼ This final paper provides research on the differences and similarities in expressing politeness in Dutch and Italian. This kind of research is covered by the cross-
cultural pragmatics.
Politeness in linguistics has a long history and begins with the concept of face-keeping of Goffman (1955), who states that everyone has their own "face" that may be threatened in a conversation with the other. Moreover, the concept of Brown and Levinson (1987) is either well-known, which is about the politeness strategies. Depending on these two "faces" one makes a choice between two different strategies to protect their own "face" or those of others. In this dissertatation politeness is analyzed within the speech act of requests. In requests situations we can speak about negative politeness. In this kind of situations the "face" and those of others are put in 'danger' and usually one uses polite and mitigating strategies. The mitigation of requests helps one to protect their own "face" and those of others.
A pilot has been carried out with twenty-two respondents, made up of half Dutch and half Italians. Both groups of respondents are second language (L2) learners. The Dutch group is comprised of students of the Italian language, while the Italian group is comprised of Dutch as a second language students. The students have filled in a test (the Discourse Completion Test), in which request situations occure. The analysis of the test is divided into two parts, the first part compares the native speakers, while the second part examines the non-native speakers. Two main questions are taken into consideration:
- To what extent do Dutch and Italian (L1) differ in language regarding politeness in requests situations, and to what extent can we speak about culture-specific or universal phenomena?
- To what extent does native language influence the formulation of polite requests in L2?
Differences and similarities between the two languages were defined. It has been found that both Italian and Dutch respondents choose the same strategy to express politeness. By contrast, the manner in which the request is formulated, differs in the two languages. As far as the second analysis is concerned, it has been found that the mother tongue has influence on the pressing out of politeness in the second language.
As a result, although the concept of politeness is believed to be universal, it can be said that the formulation of polite requests is culture-specific. This is also one of the reasons why mother tongue language has influence on second language learning aquisition.

The Uses of Literacy, are the bedrock of democracy. Without them, ‘communities of dialoguing publics,’ as defined by C. Wright Mills in
The Power Elite, which, writ large, comprise that democracy, cannot form. This thesis begins, in Part One, with a one hundred and fifty year canon of
cultural theory, beginning with the Victorians, Romantics, and Transcendentalists, who argue that a democracy first and foremost is composed of citizens who demonstrate both the ability of critique and the ability to generate works, whether intellectual or artistic in nature, that are worthy of such critique. The thesis then, in Part Two, documents that this is not the state of the American public today, and these levels of literacy are in fact declining generally and increasingly producing a ‘mass society’ of ‘consumers’ passively purchasing the increasingly rote entertainment products of an ever more elite Culture Industry. The thesis then, in Part Three, depicts the effect this situation is having on developing countries worldwide, which are increasingly ensnared in this ever more global Culture Industry as pawns of its distribution within their local populations. The Conclusion then depicts the situation underway in contemporary America concerning the complicated role of the explosive growth of Web 2.0 and digital devices on the literacy of the American public. At the moment, two trends are at war with one another: those members of the public who, with sufficient prior exposure to the practices of critique and cultivated production, are employing those devices properly as tools in the service of those ends, versus those members of the public bereft of those practices and who are therefore employing those devices superficially and in the spirit of worshipping them as devices themselves. In sum, this thesis shows that, while the latter camp is currently in the majority, there is nothing to guarantee that state of affairs in the future. That
future depends on how the American public chooses to wield this incoming technology, and
that largely depends on whether or not they can be exposed to the practice of exercising critical and cultivated literacy.

▼ Patient engagement studio models exist to create a platform for patients to offer input on research projects at health systems and academic health centers. While these models are gaining popularity, little research exists that captures the benefits for participants. In this ethnographic study, I examined the benefits of patient engagement for participants at a large Southeastern academic health center. Through individual interviews and field observation, I sought to understand the experiences of patients and what they gained, and how those benefits could be applied to other health care settings. Patients’ responses in interviews and actions in each studio indicated that the following benefits exist: education, empathy, and empowerment. These benefits often worked in relation with each other, as well as offered additional insight on positive patient-physician communication models and effective communication channels in health care.

▼ This thesis aims to explore heterodox ideological currents that developed in the Cultural Revolution, focusing on the background and writings of the “August 5” activists and the Li Yizhe group in Guangzhou. While the Cultural Revolution produced catastrophic consequences in many regards, this thesis intends to show that there are still ways in which young participants exercised their independent thinking and developed novel political ideas that significantly diverged from the official ideology. Beginning with an overview of the development of the Cultural Revolution in Guangzhou, I study the analyses of the “August 5” activists and the Li Yizhe group as well as examine how their heterodox views about China’s social and political system were inspired by their participation in the movement.

▼ Religion consists of humanity's beliefs, cultural systems, and worldviews of existence (Geertz, 1973). Its function is not merely a system of symbols that people act according to, but also the establishment of powerful, pervasive motivations in the society. This study intends to analyze the connection of religion and culture by using one of Hofstede's cultural dimensions, power distance (the extent of how power is accepted and expected to be distributed in the society). In this analysis, the researcher investigated the PDI (Power Distance Index) within the Utah Mormon culture. Researcher also compared the PDI scoring of Utah Mormon culture to the general US culture, as well as the PDI in Catholicism and Protestantism culture. The results showed that the unique Mormon cultural region in Utah has the lowest PDI in comparison to the US national culture and that of general Protestant and Catholic communities. This outcome is contrary to the general characterization of power in Utah Mormon culture. The result of this study raised more questions than answers. Although several factors and characteristics that contribute to the low PDI in Utah Mormon society, as well as its implications have been analyzed, the researcher found that this contradiction of the PDI scoring is related to Hofstede's original work. This study is challenging Hofstede's way in treating culture and its components as homogenous. Thus, each fragment of culture needs to be investigated as a separate entity. The study of power distance in Utah Mormon culture indicates how a society can understand its own characteristics and how it can communicate more effectively with other societies with different backgrounds or different PDI based on these characteristics. This study can educate people concerning how Mormons interact and perhaps might even, to a certain extent, at least, explain the conflicts in the society itself. Additionally, the results of this research can be a new contribution to the literature for this field and can further the research in verifying the characteristics of a given society.

▼ ABSTRACT
Data gathered from the National Resource Center on Native American Aging at the University of North Dakota was utilized (N = 8,396) to see if a relationship exists between
cultural identity and social capital, the independent variables, and the dependent variable, subjective health. It is anticipated that there will be strong relationships between
cultural identity, social capital, and subjective health because it is culturally expected that the younger generations of American Indians will take care of their elders by providing support when needed. This will provide a strong sense of well-being for American Indian elders. Additionally,
cultural identity is expected to play a greater role in determining American Indians elders’ subjective health based off of findings from previous research documenting the importance of culture amongst American Indians.
Results suggest that
cultural identity and social capital both play an important role in determining American Indians elders’ subjective health. However, it was revealed that social capital did explain more of the variation in subjective health than
cultural identity beyond the control variables. Implications of these results suggest a need for reservation officials, caregivers, and family members to consider developing programs that encourage
cultural participation while utilizing new ideas incorporating social capital.

▼ This thesis focuses on how cultural connections in classroom influences students<&apos> value of learning, specifically, their value of reading. Several researchers and theorists have emphasized the importance of balancing cognitive and conative aspects of children<&apos>s reading development. However, what is lacking in these studies is a focus on Pacific Islander (PI) children. The purpose of this study was to examine value of reading for diverse students who may be struggling in classrooms designed for White, middle-class students. Findings provide educators and those working with diverse students a chance to consider how connecting cultural backgrounds for all students can help in classrooms. This study was framed from a larger study on equity in teaching academic language conducted by the supervising professor, Dr. Bryant Jensen. This research study used a mixed method approach: multiple regression analysis to predict gains in PI students<&apos> reading values, and interviews with classroom teachers. Fourth through sixth grade Latino and PI students in 32 classrooms participating in the quantitative study, and three teachers were interviewed. Due to the short time frame, PI students<&apos> value of reading did not increase on average. Themes also emerged during interviews with the classroom teachers. I conclude with a discussion, implications, and recommendations for future research studies and educators working with PI and other diverse students.

▼ In-audibility, in-visibility: The dynamics of contemporary cross-
cultural identity through sound and installation is a practice-led research project that integrates spatial, sonic and active listening practices with an investigation of contemporary cross-
cultural identity.
Cultural hybridity and the spectrum of my experiences as a mixed-race Chinese-British-Australian actively apprise my conceptual, and experimental sound and installation practice. This methodology intrinsically links
cultural theory with the curated transmission and embodied reception of sonic and visual elements. In particular, the research began with an investigation of hybridity before moving onto visibility and invisibility, alongside audibility and inaudibility as spectrums of experience, in reference to historical
cultural theory as well as a specifically Asian-Australian position. The practice-led research engages light and translucency as mediums to explore the spectrum from invisibility through visibility and into hyper-visibility. Analogously, values of inaudibility, audibility and hyper-audibility are investigated through the application and interrogation of beat frequencies and masking sounds as psychoacoustic sonic phenomena which are inherently hybrid in their construction. Voice, speech and language, in written and spoken forms, are used to bind the sonic and visual elements into a unified hybrid installation. The installation manifests as a multi-sensory experience of the spectrums of visibility and audibility that immerses the viewer in an approach to contemporary identity that is inherently manifold. Together, the relationship between the spectrums culminates as an embodied, hybrid installation where sonic and visual reception fluctuates. The viewers’ active movement and listening generates an experience of the fluidity and hybridity inherent in contemporary cross-
cultural identity. The practice-led research synthesises sonic and visual materiality with
cultural theory to generate an embodied installation where a contemporary Asian-Australian position is exemplified as dynamic and multiplicitous.

▼ Despite growing interest in neo-institutionalism and world culture theory in recent years, few studies have researched urban cultural policies from this perspective. By far the most research on urban cultural policy-making relies on rational choice and structural theoretical perspectives. The purpose of this thesis is to acquire new knowledge on urban cultural policies by examining the main justifications of cultural policies in Dundee from world cultural theoretical perspective.
This thesis is organised as a case study and it analyses the justifications ascribed to cultural policies in the official cultural policy documents of the city of Dundee. It utilises critical discourse analysis and social-interactive discourse theory as its prime methodological tools.
The analysis indicates that the cultural policies are justified using economic, social, intrinsic as well as global justifications. While the use of economic, social and intrinsic benefits as justifications has been identified in earlier research, the additional emphasis on global justifications in the documents of Dundee is a finding which lends credence to the explanatory power of world culture theory. Further analysis of the documents reveals clear diffusion of global influences which takes place through four key conduits of world culture: international organisations, universities, statistics and measurement, and global political culture. Finally, the analysis reveals some contradictory features in the documents, which do not make sense from pure rational choice and structural perspectives. This suggests that it is not only possible but in fact imperative to trace back the sources of different cultural policy justifications to the global discourse on cultural policies.
The results of the study emphasise the need to conduct more research on urban cultural policies from the perspective of world culture theory. This is because the theory reveals how different policies, which are conventionally viewed to be of local origin and to serve local interests, are in fact better understood as globally shared policy models.

This dissertation aims at two interrelated goals: the first one is to examine the existing connection between individuation and schooling of children aged 0 to 5, taking as reference a set of conceptual and methodological contributions formulated by Lev Vygotsky; and the second one is to draw out some theoretical consequences from this connection to pedagogical work in children education. In order to do this, two investigational lines have been adopted: one concerning the recovering of the crucial role of the perspective of Marxian dialectics in cultural-historical psychology; the other is an attempt to identify possible interfaces among Vygotskian themes (the development of the higher psychical functions, the thought-language connection, the role of imagination in the development of consciousness) and the processes of individuation and schooling in children education. Several texts written by Vygostky and his commentators were consulted as primary sources of information. It was possible to reach the…

▼ In the wake of globalization, a growing line of research has emerged to better understand individuals who grow up on the crossroads of national cultures due to their parents??? vocation known as third culture kids (TCKs). Scholars and counselors acknowledge the large need to better understand how TCKs negotiate their (inter)national
cultural identity. Utilizing the communication
theory of identity (CTI) framework, interviews were conducted with 17 missionary kid (MK) TCKs to examine if and how they experience identity gaps. A qualitative analysis revealed various intensity levels in personal-communal, personal-relational, and personal-enacted identity gaps. Multiple factors such as context, time, identity salience, relational closeness, and
cultural similarity caused variation in the experience of these gaps. The notions of being a hidden immigrant and a
cultural chameleon were emphasized through passive communication strategies of camouflaging, reactive revealing, and selective revealing. Additionally, the religious dimension of being an MK had identity gaps, which were also managed passively. This research affirms and extends TCK and CTI literature in numerous ways, providing unique theoretical viewpoints of a multifaceted, dialectical (inter)national
cultural identity, as well as practical implications for scholars, counselors, and TCKs.

participantes, as autoscopias e as entrevistas semiestruturadas.
permeiam a prática docente.

▼ WEREWOLVES: A THREE-DIMENSIONAL CONTENT ANALYSIS OF FILMS FROM 1980 – 2014 revolves around how monsters function in stories. Monsters represent fears and teach social norms. They are often portrayed as “other”, but more recently the werewolf has appeared in media as more sympathetic (Brannon 2016, 21; Gilmore 2008, 362; Hughes 2009, 97). Limited research has systematically studied how werewolves are represented in the media. This content analysis focuses on how major werewolf characters are represented in 20 films.
The analysis showcases werewolf characters in today’s culture and what it means to be a monster by analyzing hybridity. This study presents a three-dimensional analysis of werewolves to conceptualize the core ways monsters exhibit human and monstrous traits. It will allow us to better understand the werewolf’s relationship to humanity. The dimensions: physical states, location and social integration, and relationships and emotional competency can be utilized in future studies to examine more closely how monsters, even those not so hybrid, may have hybrid traits.
Through hybridity, werewolves are malleable, serving different functions in films. Some werewolves in this study fit stereotypes of dangerous beings by wreaking havoc on humanity. Yet this study confirms the changing representation of the werewolf. Many werewolves analyzed for this study lived amongst humans, exhibited hybrid physicality, part human and never fully wolf, retained human cognition, and formed consensual non-violent romantic relationships with humans. Therefore, the findings suggest werewolves serve some of the same mythical functions as they did centuries ago but have taken on new functions as well.
