▼ Organizational scholars have traditionally argued that formalized operations to regulate the flow of business activities and employee policies to coordinate work distribution are essential for small enterprising business sustainability and growth. However, empirical findings show that small firms do not develop, implement, or provide oversight of formal organizational practices. While small businesses seem to lack the organizational structures that are assumed to be essential for “rational” business operations and sustainability, many flourish. In order to better understand how small enterprising businesses are able to create and maintain stable organizations and adapt to internal and external pressures, this cross-industry ethnographic study of four firms examines the daily work of business owners, managers, and employees. Through a cultural analysis focusing on interpersonal relationships and the way daily business activities are legitimized, challenged, and occasionally transformed, I find that entrepreneurial firms enact three different small group performances. I label these cultural performances: routine business performance, routine crisis performance, and routine growth performance. Rather than standard operating procedures, proper emergency planning, or strategic growth initiatives, the ongoing creation of group histories, meanings, and affiliations provide the needed material to generate small group cohesion that creates order in entrepreneurial firms.

▼ The primary objective of the study is to determine the level of corporate
entrepreneurship within higher level employees at Anglogold Ashanti (Mponeng mine) in
order to make recommendations regarding the encouragement of an entrepreneurial
climate.
A comprehensive literature was conducted. In the literature review entrepreneurship,
corporate entrepreneurship and an entrepreneurial climate were defined. The
establishment if a climate of corporate entrepreneurship was found to be dependent on
the presence of 13 important constructs. If proposed steps are followed to promote
corporate entrepreneurship in an organisation, five identified success factors will
improve as a result.
A historic overview of the gold mining industry including Anglogold Ashanti (Mponeng
mine) was given in chapter 3. Part of the Anglogold Ashanti strategy is ?innovation?,
wanting to give all employees the opportunity to contribute to improvement by sharing
their ideas within the organisation.
A questionnaire was adapted to test for the presence of the 13 construct of the climate
of corporate entrepreneurship which were identified and to verify current perceptions
regarding the organisational success of the organisation among middle managers.
Empirical research was conducted which was focusing on discussing the results
obtained from the questionnaires. Basic demographic information of the respondents
were dealt with first, after which the perceptions of the respondents with regard to the
13 construct measuring the entrepreneurial climate and the constructs measuring the
perceived success of the organisation were discussed. Furthermore, the relationships
were determined between demographic variables and the constructs measured in the
questionnaire. Following the detail analysis of chapter 4, it was concluded that managers participating
in the survey regarded the entrepreneurial climate in Anglogold Ashanti (Mponeng
mine) as being average. Based on the findings of the empirical research and the insight
gained in the literature review, recommendations were made on how to foster an
entrepreneurial climate within Angolgold Ashanti (Mponeng mine).

▼ Since the beginnings of venture creation the traditional role of the entrepreneur has
evolved from only being the owner of a small business to include those individuals
within a large organisation who has entrepreneurial skills and applies these to benefit
the company. The focus of this research study was the assessment of corporate
entrepreneurship within Sasol Polymers, a division of Sasol Ltd.
A comprehensive literature review was conducted in chapter 2. In the literature
review entrepreneurship, corporate entrepreneurship and an entrepreneurial climate
were defined. The dimensions of corporate entrepreneurship and the 13 constructs
measuring the entrepreneurial climate were discussed, after which the constructs
measuring the perceived success of the organisation were presented. Chapter 2
concluded by presenting practical suggestions in which an entrepreneurial climate
could be established in an organisation.
A historic overview of Sasol and Sasol Polymers was then presented. Among
others; the history, vision, strategy, technology and innovation was discussed. The
chapter concluded with the unique causal factors of Sasol Polymers that prompted
this study.
Empirical research was conducted after the literature review and background to the
organisation. The empirical research focused on discussing the results obtained
from the corporate entrepreneurship questionnaire. Top, middle and lower level
managers of Sasol Polymers were selected as the sample population for this study
and a 50% response rate was achieved. Basic demographic information of the
respondents were dealt with first, after which the perceptions of the respondents with
regard to the 13 constructs measuring the entrepreneurial climate and the constructs
measuring the perceived success of the organisation were discussed. Furthermore,
relationships were determined between demographic variables and the constructs
measured in the questionnaire. Following the detailed empirical analysis done in chapter 4, it was concluded that
managers participating in the survey regarded the constructs vision and strategic
intent, strong customer orientation and entrepreneurial leadership as the most
prevalent in Sasol Polymers. The least prevalent constructs required for an
entrepreneurial climate were resource availability and accessibility, tolerance for
risk, mistakes and failure and sponsors/champions. No practical significant
difference could be found between the mean values of any of the demographical
categories and the constructs measured in the questionnaire. The study concludes
with practical recommendation, a measurement of the achievement of objectives and
suggestions for future research.

▼ The background in which global organisations operate in at present is very
competitive. In an ever faster growing global economy the role of the entrepreneur
within the large organisation becomes more and more important to ensure the
company keeps the competitive edge.
The Linde Group is a world class company with a world class management strategy
and systems to support the strategy. Part of the The Linde Group management
strategy is being a high performing organisation, wanting to give all employees the
opportunity to contribute to improvement by sharing their ideas with the company.
This study was done at African Oxygen Limited, South Africa, a regional business
unit in Africa for The Linde Group. African Oxygen Limited embarked on various
programmes to create opportunities for employees to think in an entrepreneurial way.
Middle managers at African Oxygen Limited play an important role in the innovation
programs implemented at African Oxygen Limited. Against this background, this
study seeks to confirm whether African Oxygen Limited, South Africa has a true
entrepreneurial climate and whether the middle management level involved with
these initiatives share this perception.
Corporate entrepreneurship is characterised by people who are innovative, creative,
spend time and take risks. To support these entrepreneurial activities, the
organisation needs a climate and culture that is beneficial to these activities. An
entrepreneurial orientation within an organisation is marked by dimensions such as
innovativeness, pro–activeness, risk–taking, competitive aggressiveness and
autonomy. The entrepreneurial behaviour among middle level managers is most
critical to the effective implementation of corporate entrepreneurship.
The primary objective of this study was to assess the entrepreneurial climate in
African Oxygen Limited and to make recommendations to foster corporate
entrepreneurship within the organisation. The literature review was instrumental to
gather secondary data on corporate entrepreneurship and to understand its dynamics. In order to gain primary data, quantitative research was carried out. The
study population comprised lower and middle management, who were requested to
complete questionnaires. This was followed by statistical analysis.
The empirical results indicate no practical significance in respondents' perception
based on the gender of the respondents. However, the results do indicate practical
significant differences between the relationship between the groups of middle and
lower management level with respect to entrepreneurial climate and the perceived
organisational success.
An evaluation of the corporate entrepreneurial climate in the organisation was
performed and the average mean for the study calculated. Seven out of 13
constructs evaluated had a mean above the average mean of x = 3.502, the other six
constructs evaluated had a mean ranked lower than the average mean. All of the
constructs still had a mean above three out of five.

▼ ENGLISH ABSTRACT: The research set out to prove that subsidiary entrepreneurial culture in a postacquisition
environment is different from entrepreneurial culture in an independently
owned company. Whereas independently owned companies focus on their own
successes and failures, acquired companies are constantly required to take into
consideration the parameters and objectives set by headquarters.
Little is known about what occurs within the subsidiary post-acquisition, and how
managerial structures and processes either stimulate or hinder the entrepreneurial
culture, which is an aspect often neglected during the acquisition process. This study
aims to address the uncertainty regarding which key characteristics constitute
subsidiary entrepreneurial culture in a post-acquisition environment, and aims to
expand the currently inadequate body of knowledge on subsidiary entrepreneurial
culture.
Based on the theoretical frameworks of intrapreneurship, multinational subsidiary
entrepreneurship and international entrepreneurship, an interview guide was developed
and used as the primary research instrument. Data was collected by means of semistructured
interviews and data analysis was conducted using ATLAS.ti. The
qualitative, exploratory nature of the study necessitated a case study research design,
which was based on a non-probability sample of five subsidiaries competing in the
private-label food and beverage industry.
Findings suggest that the components of subsidiary entrepreneurial culture in a postacquisition
environment are: new businesses and ventures, product innovativeness,
process innovativeness, self-renewal, risk-taking, proactiveness, competitive
aggressiveness and subsidiary autonomy. Furthermore, entrepreneurial culture is
enhanced by a subsidiary-driven locus of control and through headquarters’ support in
the form of financial stability, structure and a future-oriented approach for long-term
success. A framework of subsidiary entrepreneurial culture was developed with the
aim of providing managers with an outline of the relevant determinants that can
enhance subsidiary entrepreneurship.
Managers should take note that although the locus of control may vary within each
subsidiary, granting the subsidiary decision-making autonomy and the autonomy to manipulate its entrepreneurial orientation are key to nurturing the pre-established
entrepreneurial culture.
Future research agendas could incorporate perspectives from both the subsidiary and
the headquarters. Analysis can also be done regarding the extent to which disruptive
entrepreneurial culture may be diminished before it impacts negatively on business
performance.

▼ Comprehensive research has been done on organisational behaviour, entrepreneurial spirit, entrepreneur,
entrepreneurship and
corporate entrepreneurship. Literature is however less clear on which organisational behaviour components influence
corporate entrepreneurship. This creates a problem for managers and business leaders when they want to influence the entrepreneurial spirit within an organisation. This study summaries the literature on organisational behaviour variables and
corporate entrepreneurship, as well as the limited findings linking the two concepts. The empirical study focuses four areas: testing validity and reliability of the measurements used in the study; the correlation between organisational behaviour components and
corporate entrepreneurship; the ability of organisational behaviour components to predict
corporate entrepreneurship; and finally testing if the grouping of organisational behaviour variables is justified. This cross sectional study was done in 12 non-listed and 5 listed companies in South Africa. Randomly selected employees completed 862 questionnaires. They represented all the local ethnic groups, both genders, and were from all organisational levels. The results of the empirical study indicated that the measurements used in the study were all acceptable being reliable and valid. The correlation between the selected organisational behaviour components and
corporate entrepreneurship were all strong and significant, with goal setting the strongest, followed by performance management, then transformational leadership, and communication. The correlation with shared decision making, organisational culture, and power were less strong but still significant. The organisational behaviour components together declare a 46.5% variance in
corporate entrepreneurship with organisational culture and goal setting contributing significantly and uniquely. Grouping the organisational behaviour variables in individual level, group level and organisational level, as suggested by many authors, did not provide a satisfactory solution. Suggestions to managers on where to focus when they want to foster
corporate entrepreneurship were made. The limitations as well as suggestions for future research were discussed in the final instance.

▼ There has been substantial research that has examined both
corporate entrepreneurship and
corporate governance. While the antecedents and outcomes of these constructs have been extensively examined, the relationship between the two has only recently seen focus within the literature. Existing research relating
corporate governance and
corporate entrepreneurship has focused on how
corporate governance mechanisms influence the development of
corporate entrepreneurship. While this research has begun to develop into a separate stream of research, existing empirical research has by and large been cross-sectional thus the dynamic relationships between the two constructs have been spurious. Additionally, research in this area while extremely important is somewhat incomplete. Specifically, current analyses have not taken into account the impact of exogenous factors on the relationship between
corporate governance and
corporate entrepreneurship. This study aims to build on the current literature by addressing each of the aforementioned gaps in the literature. First, utilizing longitudinal analytical techniques this study attempts to improve our understanding of the dynamic relationship between
corporate governance and
corporate entrepreneurship. Next, the study expands on the existing models by injecting the moderating impact of exogenous variables to the
corporate governance –
corporate entrepreneurship relationship. The exogenous variables represent the influence of characteristics of the external environment and include: the market for
corporate control and the competitive environment. This study, like others within this stream of research, will examine multiple
corporate governance mechanisms and their relationship to
corporate entrepreneurship. These governance mechanisms are the structure of the board of directors, executive ownership, and institutional ownership, both short and long-term based on the investment horizons of these owners. Unlike other studies within this research stream, the outcome variable,
corporate entrepreneurship will be measured utilizing several archival measures. These include: R&D expenditure, patent counts and innovation as measured by new product introductions. This method of measuring
corporate entrepreneurship is important because much of the existing research involving
corporate entrepreneurship has utilized manager perceptions to measure the construct.Utilizing agency theory as the theoretical lens for this study I suggest that the market for
corporate control, as measured by the level of antitakeover provisions, will moderate the relationships between the structure of the board and
corporate entrepreneurship and executive ownership and
corporate entrepreneurship. Additionally, I suggest that different characteristics of the competitive environment will moderate the relationship between short and long-term institutional ownership and
corporate entrepreneurship. This study addresses several gaps in the literature by injecting the moderating influence of characteristics of the external…

▼ The purpose of this dissertation is to explore the contingencies that alter the link between entrepreneurial orientation (“EO”; a strategic posture characterized by behaviors and attitudes that display innovativeness, proactiveness, and risk-taking) and firm outcomes. While conceptual claims unite on the belief that firms largely benefit from emphasizing innovation through proactive and risky initiatives, the empirical findings on a positive link between EO and performance are inconclusive. As such, several scholars have explored the contingencies that illuminate the boundary conditions to EO, however, most of this research has focused on external contingencies, i.e. those connected to the environment, while internal contingencies, i.e. those connected to the firm, have been fairly disregarded. Not only will the industry and market play a significant role in a firm’s ability to effectively carry out their desired strategic initiatives, so too will firm characteristics, such as communication and culture, as these internal factors are directly related to the level of value created from strategic actions. Therefore, this dissertation is an attempt to further clarify the boundary conditions of EO by focusing on these firm specific attributes. Chapter two, titled “Family communication patterns and entrepreneurial orientation in family firms” exposes the impact of specific family communication patterns on the performance outcomes from an entrepreneurial orientation. This chapter contributes to the corporate entrepreneurship literature, by confining the positive effects of EO to certain firm specific characteristic, as well as to the family business literature by further demonstrating the heterogeneity between family firms. Thereafter, chapter three, titled “Entrepreneurial orientation, organizational culture, and firm performance: The importance of a balanced approach”, argues and tests the importance of organizational culture, as defined by the competing values framework, as a contingency variable of the EO-performance relationship. This empirical chapter exploits a configurational approach, using fuzzy set Qualitative Comparative Analysis
(“fs/QCA”) to analyze the arrangements of different entrepreneurial orientation and organizational cultures that yield superior performance. Through this exploration, I advance research on the EO-performance relationship by integrating the firm’s corporate culture as a means of alleviating concerns with resistance by certain stakeholders to the ambiguity associated with entrepreneurial ventures.

▼ Within a world of emerging global markets and rapid technological development, there is a strong demand for entrepreneurship within established companies in order to stay competitive. According to different studies, there is a positive linkage between Corporate Entrepreneurship (CE) and companies’ performance, which leads to a strong demand from organizations to foster their entrepreneurial culture. The recruitment and selection function within Human Resource Management (HRM) is an essential driver to attract, develop, and retain entrepreneurial people within corporations. The literature proposes that companies should match their selection criteria to the identified dimensions of Entrepreneurial Orientation (EO). However, there is a lack of research if companies have specific HRM practices to select and retain entrepreneurial people. By investigating the recruitment requirements and development possibilities of Swedish-based companies, this study contributes empirical knowledge to the topic of how companies deal with HRM and CE. This information improves the understanding in the Corporate Entrepreneurship literature.

▼ Established companies have collaborated with startups for decades in order to enhance their capabilities in technology and innovation. However, in the recent years, the changes in the business environment have induced established companies to increase their collaboration with startups. Thus, startup activities of established companies have become a timely phenomenon. This study explores the startup activities of established companies by analyzing all the activity established companies conduct in collaboration with startups, related to startups and as startups. The aims of this study are to explore how, why and how extensively established companies engage in their startup activities.
The theoretical background of this study is based on the previous discussions of corporate entrepreneurship. Corporate entrepreneurship describes various entrepreneurial phenomena appearing in corporations. It includes corporate venturing and strategic endeavors of entrepreneurial actions. The concept is broad and ambiguous, but scholars value its heterogeneity. A theoretical framework of the purposes and forms of corporate entrepreneurship is presented. The empirical research is based on a qualitative study. Eleven Finnish companies from varied industries provide the empirical research subject. The data is collected by semi-structured interviews, observation in events and by using secondary data sources, such as non-academic reports and company communications. The analysis method is content analysis.
The findings suggest that the reasons to engage in startup activity vary from strict business goals to reputational and social purposes. Based on the empirical materials, established companies can be categorized into four categories in terms of their engagement in startup activities. The categories are: no startup activity, opportunists, special know-how exploiters and strategic exploiters. The main empirical findings also include the favorable aspects towards startup activity: keeping up with the changes of the business environment, developing the business, developing the organization, repute advantages, and social responsibility, as well as the negative aspects: encountering and finding the startups, risky partners, financial matters, the effect of industry, cultural challenges, and the impact of management guidelines.
In conclusion, the study suggests that startup activities of established companies are one manifestation form of corporate entrepreneurship. Thus, corporate entrepreneurship can be conducted through startup activities. The studied companies mostly associate their activities to practical matters. They conceive different features of types of corporate entrepreneurship, but they do not plan their startup activities in the way the theory defines.

▼ Motivated by the environment of their country, Colombia, the co-authors present in this paper a research and analysis about the Manufacturing Industry (MI) and its relation to the growth of the economy in the different sectors of their country.
Industrial innovation is key to competitiveness and development of economies; therefore, Corporate Entrepreneurship (CE) is seen by the co-authors as an answer for the Manufacturing Industry in order to keep on bringing value to the society and its related sectors.
To have an approach to this CE analysis, theoretical framework used in the research is based in the Four Models of CE presented by Wolcott and Lippitz (Wolcott, 2010). Within the paper, it will be introduced the Opportunist, Enable, Advocate and Producer Model as conceived by them.
No surprises were found when looking to the actual state of the companies in the MI, those with more budgets are the ones that invest more in innovation and the small ones are more conservatives in the topic.
As part of the response to the research question, the co-authors established the path for the different company types in order for them to have an easy way to build CE.

▼ Corporate entrepreneurship has gained renewed interested in research since global markets are evolving and industries become more and more competitive. Information is transferred across the globe rapidly so that products and processes can be copied quickly. In order to be competitive, companies need to enhance creativity, their technological knowledge and market know-how. This high competitiveness leads to a dilemma where innovation is a key to survive whilst the size and administration may signify barriers to replicate entrepreneurial behavior through the entire business. Considering the relevance of corporate entrepreneurship in the rapidly changing market of the 21st century, our purpose was to develop a deeper understanding of how corporate entrepreneurship can be used by companies. We then looked deeper into the subject of organizational transformation and decided to do a case study. The aim of the research was to make a theoretical contribution by examining the subject in the context of a medium-sized enterprise in a specific environment where corporate entrepreneurship is vital. Therefore, we chose a medium-sized German company that operates in the increasingly complex and competitive process automation industry. The Gefeba Elektro GmbH was found to be an interesting case for a case study for several reasons. The company was situated in a highly competitive market, in the heart of the industrial ‘Rurhgebiet’, with numerous competitors. However, and despite the lack of resources faced by this SME, Gefeba is an important actor in the automation industry. Although researchers have examined various factors that promote corporate entrepreneurship, the literature has focused on defining factors in isolation without linking them to architectural factors, especially when it comes to SMEs. These factors are defined in our study as leadership, culture, structure and strategy. Acting within the extremes of small businesses and large corporations, we focus our study on a single medium-sized company that enables us to reach different levels of the organization and grasp a holistic understanding of this specific organization in relation to its use of CE. In accordance to this, the main research question is: How does Gefeba Elektro GmbH use corporate entrepreneurship in the automation sector industry? The study was conducted using a qualitative research method. One of the major findings is that the Gefeba Elektro GmbH is using a balance between the organizational antecedents of common values and flexibility to build a mechanism that aligns the organizational architecture towards the development of corporate entrepreneurship. Another aspect is the fact that every architectural factor is used for the development of CE, even if some architectural factors such as leadership and culture seem to have more importance in this development. Thereby, the findings about organizational antecedents and architectural factors are relevant for the managerial…

▼ Increasingly, developed countries' markets, which
are usually characterized by wealthy customers, are getting
saturated. This has necessitated that multinational corporations
(MNCs) seek new solutions for their future growth and
profitability. One of the markets that has attracted the attention
of MNCs is the bottom of the economic pyramid (BOP), which
comprises four billion people. However, reaching this market,
characterized as having a low income of less than $2 a day, is not
easily achievable. Corporations have to revisit their prior
business models and develop winwin solutions that serve the needs
of the poor and create profits. To conceptualize the market-based
initiatives of MNCs at the BOP, this research employs the concept
of
corporate social
entrepreneurship (CSE). CSE is defined in this
research as the process of innovatively identifying and exploiting
social opportunities in large and established organizations with
the aim of creating economic and social value. The research
questions that this dissertation seeks to answer are concerned with
exploring the antecedents and outcomes of CSE. First, built upon
three related strands of literature―social
entrepreneurship,
corporate entrepreneurship and
corporate social responsibility―this
research attempts to provide a preliminary understanding of the
potential antecedents and outcomes of CSE. Then, by employing
multiple qualitative and exploratory case studies, CSE and its
antecedents and outcomes are empirically investigated in eight
multinational companies in India. The research identifies demand
conditions and stakeholder expectations as the environmental
factors that predict CSE. Three organizational
characteristics―management support, a network orientation towards
social sector organizations, and the availability of financial
resources―are also found to be determining factors. The outcomes
are identified associal value creation, long-term profitability and
legitimacy. These antecedents and outcomes are theoretically
explained and supported by contingency theory, the contingent
resource-based view and stakeholder theory.

▼ The global economy is creating profound and substantial changes for business and industries throughout the world. In the agricultural industry this is also true regarding the active consolidation of the food-value chain that is taking place at a rapid rate and on the other hand a strong component of international competitiveness is becoming a reality with multi-national role players positioning them globally. The consumer on the other hand requires a simpler and cheaper supply chain and wants to participate in the deliberations regarding the end product.
In order for Senwes to be successfully positioned as an intermediary, it is evident that change is essential and unavoidable. Therefore, Senwes business platform has to be enlarged, scale of volume has to be added and trade mark has to be addressed.
The literature review in this study confirmed that corporate entrepreneurship is recognised as a potential viable means of promoting and sustaining competitiveness, and transforming business and industry opportunities for value-creating innovation.
The primary objective of this study is twofold: Firstly, to assess the determinants of corporate entrepreneurship and retail in an agri-business in South Africa and secondly to propose an integrated framework to facilitate the process of establishing and maintaining corporate entrepreneurship and retail within the specific agribusiness in South Africa.
A comprehendsive literature overview on corporate entrepreneurship was conducted in chapter 2. In the literature review corporate entrepreneurship was defined and the necessity and fostering of corporate entrepreneurship discussed. A framework with determinants for sustainable corporate entrepreneurship was furthermore explained.
The chapter was concluded with a discussion on corporate entrepreneurial strategy. A historic overview of the agricultural industry in South Africa was presented. The focus of the discussion was on the agri-business sector in South Africa with a discussion on Senwes Limited.
The nature of retail was discussed in chapter 4. An overview of the nature of retail with a definition of retail was explained. The reason for the change in retail, with different types of retailers as well as a strategic model was noted and discussed. A specific focus in the chapter was given to the strategic drivers for retail success with an overview of key retail success factors. The chapter was concluded with a discussion on the future of retailing.
Empirical research was conducted after the literature review. The empirical research Specific climate variable. Work discretion and Management support need development to become present. As far as the retail survey is concerned, six variables describing the theoretical dimensions of Store factor, Technology, Service factor, Merchandise/Product, Price and Segmentation/Target market were extracted. As indicated from the results the constructs Store factor, Technology and Service factor are present in the business. Merchandise/Product, Price and Segmentation/Target market need…

▼ Corporate entrepreneurship is the process by which organisations create value through
introduction of new products, services or processes to ensure competitive advantage. Whilst
entrepreneurship is such an important
subject and crucial for organisational performance, most
market systems development (MSD) organisations have not adopted an entrepreneurial posture
in their quest to transform market systems to work better for the poor. The MSD programmes rely
largely on the technical skills of staff within the Project Facilitation Unit (PFU) of development
organisations. The objective of this study was to explore and understand the role and impact of
corporate entrepreneurship in MSD organisations. The study was conducted at AgroBiz, in
Mozambique. AgroBiz had a total of 20 employees (the population). Since the population size
was small, a census survey technique was adopted for the quantitative study, followed by a snow
ball volunteer sampling technique for the qualitative part of the study. The survey was conducted
online using Google Forms and the qualitative study was undertaken using telephonic structured
interviews. Data analysis was computed using Microsoft Excel and Statistical Package for the
Social Sciences (SPSS) and the results were presented in the form of charts, tables and figures.
The qualitative part of the study was analysed using the Grounded theory method. It was found
that the organisation had a mechanistic structure, characterised by bureaucracy and rigid
decision-making control. Even though the level of
entrepreneurship was 10 out of 15, other
strategic factors such as resource (or capital) availability, leadership and management support
and decision-making control were found to be the main barriers to entrepreneurial behaviours. It
was recommended that the leadership ought to focus on addressing key variables that prohibit
entrepreneurship. Future research should identify the key skills that are required by leadership to
effectively develop an entrepreneurial team. There is also an opportunity for academics to identify
whether the business model of MSD organisations influences how entrepreneurial the individual
employees can be. Lastly, there is need to explore the Hoselitz’s theory further to understand the
role of the individual’s socio-economic class on entrepreneurial behaviour.

▼ Since the early 1990s entrepreneurship education has experienced a significant
interest and growth in South Africa, due to the fact that it plays a very important part
in the success of businesses, whether it is a new or an existing business venture.
Corporate entrepreneurship can be defined as the development of new ideas and
opportunities within a large organisation and is characterized by individuals who are
energetic, creative, innovative, self-confident and take calculated risks.
When looking at the entrepreneurial orientation variables, Autonomy,
Innovativeness, Risk-taking, Pro-Activeness and Competitive aggressiveness
in any organisation, they require an acceptable climate to ensure that each
dimension prosper. The line, middle and senior managers play an important role in
entrepreneurial actions, whether it is part of creating the climate or driving the
process once initiated. Entrepreneurial success factors such as creativity, innovation,
risk orientation, leadership, good human relations, a positive attitude and
perseverance, are all attributes of successful entrepreneurs.
The primary research focus of this study has been to investigate the influence of
entrepreneurial orientation variables (Autonomy, Innovativeness, Risk-taking, Pro-
Activeness and Competitive aggressiveness) on the perceived success in a personal
protective equipment organisation in South Africa. For the purpose of this study, the
business success has been measured by means of two dependent variables namely
Business growth and Business development and improvement.
An empirical study has been conducted by using a questionnaire that measured five
dimensions regarding entrepreneurial orientation. Data from 42 participants have
been collected and analysed, and the results indicate that the organisation have
certain aspects of entrepreneurial orientation present.
The results show that the managers in the personal protective equipment business
perceived that the entrepreneurial orientation variable Innovativeness have a
positive influence on their Business Growth. An important relationship between the
independent variable Innovativeness and the dependent variable Business
development and improvement has been found to exist.
Entrepreneurship and entrepreneurial orientation are more than just vibrant words in
the industry; they play important roles in the survival and growth of organisations. It is
also crucial to understand that the correct climate needs to be fostered within the
organisation to ensure that all the various aspects of corporate entrepreneurship are
achieved. The organisation will reap greater benefits that could contribute to the
business staying the leader in the industry, being more competitive, creating new
ventures, and introducing new products and services.
The area of significant concern for the organisation is a low or poor tolerance for risktaking.
Practical recommendations, suggestions and an action plan are presented in
order to improve the entrepreneurial climate of the…

▼ This paper establishes the life-cycle dynamics of
Corporate Venture Capital (CVC) to explore the information acquisition role of CVC investment in the process of
corporate innovation. I exploit an identification strategy that allows me to isolate exogenous shocks to a firm's ability to innovate. Using this strategy, I first find that the CVC life cycle typically begins following a period of deteriorated
corporate innovation and increasingly valuable external information, lending support to the hypothesis that firms conduct CVC investment to acquire information and innovation knowledge from startups. Building on this analysis, I show that CVCs acquire information by investing in companies with similar technological focus but have a different knowledge base. Following CVC investment, parent firms internalize the newly acquired knowledge into internal R&D and external acquisition decisions. Human capital renewal, such as hiring inventors who can integrate new innovation knowledge, is integral in this step. The CVC life cycle lasts about four years, terminating as innovation in the parent firm rebounds. These findings shed new light on discussions about firm boundaries, managing innovation, and
corporate information choices.

▼ This study explored the practices of commercial volunteer tourism operators in order to determine their perspectives on the role certification may play as a strategy for socially responsible volunteer tourism. It was guided by two objectives: 1) To determine the current perceptions of volunteer tourism stakeholders regarding social responsibility in the volunteer tourism sector, 2) To consider additional measures (e.g., certification) as tools to enhance socially responsible tourism practices.
The study was conducted in two phases. Research during phase one provided a background understanding of the issues related to the volunteer tourism sector. I specifically sought to understand issues surrounding the social responsibility of operators within the sector and methods that could possibly be utilized to improve the sector, such as certification. This was achieved through an assessment of the perceptions of key informants within the volunteer tourism sector, which were gathered through semi-structured interviews. Phase two involved case study analysis, whereby the practices of two large commercial volunteer tourism organizations, Projects Abroad and ME to WE, were examined. Data for phase two were gathered through semi-structured interviews conducted with key players (employees) within the organizations, as well as each organization’s website and publication materials. Cross-case analysis of data gathered from both organizations revealed two major themes: (1) operating towards making a difference and (2) creating social responsibility within the volunteer tourism sector.
Combining the results of phase one (background understanding of the volunteer tourism sector and certification) and phase two (analysis of the practices of two volunteer tourism organizations) allowed for the development of an in-depth understanding of the role social responsibility plays within the volunteer tourism sector. This study has shown that the operations of volunteer tourism organizations are an important component of the tensions present within the sector. This study has revealed the perspectives of volunteer tourism operators and other stakeholders within the sector, a cohort whose perspectives have not been studied in much depth in past research Furthermore, it identifies the opportunity and need to better align volunteer tourism operators with more socially responsibility within the sector. This study has illustrated that the socially responsible practices that are implemented at an operational level could aid in understanding the actual contribution that an organization will make within the sector. The majority of the participants from phase one and phase two of this research identify that they would subscribe to a certification as a responsible tourism implementation strategy. Finally, it is proposed that a new approach and definition for volunteer tourism should be considered within the literature: Socially Responsible Volunteer Tourism.

▼ Background: Corporate accelerators (CAs) are a relatively new phenomenon and increasingly used by corporates to increase their level of innovation. However, there are still no best practices on how these CA programs can be structured more efficiently in order to serve the needs of startups and corporates simultaneously. Here, most extant research focuses on the general goals of CA programs and the definition of certain core elements and features which describe a CA (i.e. provision of coworking space; educational programs), while disregarding the objectives of the startups participating. Purpose: The purpose of this study is to understand how current CA programs can be improved, by analyzing the experiences and perspectives of both corporates and startups. It aims to identify, how CA programs can be more successful for corporates and startups. Method: To satisfy the purpose of this qualitative study, an exploratory research approach was selected and a multi-case research strategy applied. Data was gathered through in-depth, semi-structured expert interviews with five managers and three participants of accelerator programs managed by leading multinational corporates. Through a content analysis, we built new theory based on our findings. Conclusion: This study shed light on current difficulties that arise in CA programs such as internal politics and bureaucracy, internal communication, corporate rigidities, and the important tasks of CA managers navigating those issues. Our study contributes to research on CAs by (1) emphasizing current barriers of CAs; (2) presenting suggestions for creating more successful CAs; (3) showing how CA managers can foster interactions between corporate business units and startups: and (4) creating the SET CA model.

▼ This cross-sectional qualitative study explored and described the role and contribution of operational level employees towards
corporate entrepreneurship (CE) in the long-term insurance sector in Johannesburg, South Africa. Individual face-to-face semi-structured interviews took place with 13 operational level employees. Data analysis was done through thematic analysis where themes and sub-themes emerged. The findings indicate that operational level employees acknowledge that CE positively influences their entrepreneurial activity within the organisation. While operational level employees implement the CE strategy, they emphasise non-engagement in the CE initiatives as one of the main barriers to contributing to CE. This study concludes that management should focus on the antecedents of CE such as management rewards/reinforcement, work discretion, organisational boundaries, organisational structure and organisational culture.

▼ “[A]s much as any other product, the car has shaped not only the global economy but how billions of people live”1,whilethe digital area is nowshapingthe car.Coopetition, a strategy presenting firms with the opportunity to collaborate and compete at the same time,is becoming a prevalent phenomenonamong large OEMs and start-ups in the automotive industry.Respectively, considering that coopetition, in the context of open innovation and new technologies, has been identified as a successful strategy, this thesis will therefore analyse the relationship between OEMs and external start-ups in the context of coopetition and corporate open innovation strategies. Several typesof corporate incubators, accelerators and corporate innovation labs emerged within the last years, howeveran integration of all three of these has not yet been widely explored. Accordingly, while these open innovation streamsare used by large corporationsto get access to the start-upecosystemand increase their innovation capabilities, the relationship between OEMs and external start-ups will further lead to CIIAs (a combined approach of corporate incubators, corporate innovation labs and corporate accelerators),demonstratedin the context of coopetition. This exploratory study therebycontributes to the relationship between external start-ups and OEMsthrough aCIIA approach, answering the two following researchquestions;•What are the main drivers of the OEM and external start-uprelationship?•How do OEMs and external start-ups coopete in the context of corporate open innovation strategies? To dulyanswer these research questions, we choseaqualitative researchmethodcombined with an interpretivist and inductiveapproachas well asempirical findings generated from 6semi-structured interviews. We furthercontributed tothe illustrationof the key aspects of CIIAsas well asthe motives, management and implications behind the relationshipsbetween OEMs and external start-upsbyaconceptual framework. Our analysishence showsthe significanceof the access to complementary resources, the co-creation and co-development of value as well as the systematic implementation of a proof of conceptin the light of thesecoopetitive relationshipsbetween CIIAs and external start-ups.However, consideringthat thisresearch has been based on the German automotive industry only, it will require further research in other contexts, sectors or countries. To conclude, thisthesis contributes tothe management literature ofcoopetition, corporate innovation and entrepreneurship. We proposeda finalframeworkto highlightthekey motives, the management and the implications behind thecoopetitive relationshipsbetween OEMsand external start-upsthrough the CIIA platform. This willexpectedly help managers and entrepreneurs develop efficientmanagement techniques as well asfurther recognize and understand the influential dynamicspresent in these relationships
