▼ The development of co-operatives has been increasingly seen, both globally and in developing countries, as a key strategy for a high economic growth rate, job creation and poverty alleviation. In trying to address these challenges, the South African government has been promoting co-operatives as an instrument for economic growth and socio-economic integration. Despite the realisation of the important role that cooperatives could play, not enough research has been done on the successes and failures of these organisations in achieving economic growth and socio-economic development in countries. The present study is an attempt to address this research gap. The primary objective of this study was to increase the success of co-operatives in South Africa by investigating the prevailing nature of operations of co-operatives and the
determinants of the success of these organisations. More specifically, the study gathered qualitative information about co-operatives, identified which factors influence co-operatives in general and investigated which of these factors are the most important
determinants of the success of these organisations in South Africa. A census was conducted of the 110 co-operatives registered in the database of the Leadership Academy (LA) of the NMMU Business School. Only 50 executive members of 26 co-operatives participated in the study (response rate of 23.6 percent). The empirical results revealed that the two most critical success factors for co-op success were the handling of finances and leadership; that language groups viewed coop success differently; and that females provide stronger leadership than males in cooperatives. The results also showed that skills development is an important factor in achieving these critical success factors. These results presented important managerial implications for the success of co-operatives

▼ M.Ed.
While there is a new vision and direction as set out in the new education policy frameworks, human resources management in schools is still shaped by disempowering autocratic ethos, systems and procedures inherited from the apartheid era. Consequently, the management styles required to rehumanize the staff in schools, especially black township schools, is absent. Capacity building for service delivery is lacking. In this study, the researcher uses a qualitative research based on multiple selected sites to explore what barriers stand in the path of employees at school level with regard to the delivery of the expected learning outcomes and also to suggest ways and means to remove or limit these barriers. Research findings from this study suggest that managers in schools should not limit employees through their managerial actions, but rather empower their school staff by means of anchored freedom and enhance their performance through managing the environment surrounding them.

▼ Today, housing in Sweden is facing major maintenance needs, particularly those built during the Million Program. Many of these properties are owned by housing cooperatives that have to carry out extensive maintenance, to ensure that future generations have the opportunity to have attractive and sustainable housing. This requires maintenance planning that involves what and when maintenance will be performed, and how much it will cost. An important tool for maintenance planning is a plan that can maintain the properties’ quality and value. However, there is a lack of knowledge about maintenance plans and their importance in the long term property management. This candidate's work illuminates maintenance plans and examines how housing cooperative works with and follows up their plan in practice. Because many property owners neglect their maintenance plan, this study is meant to analyze improvements that make optimal plan to work with in the long term. Based on conducted interviews, the study has shown that the housing cooperative is actively working with their maintenance plan which involves annual inspection-rounds of all properties, and also has a budgetary provision for future maintenance. One key point is that the union is actively working to make the plan more manageable, which is done by transformation from CD to Excel based files. The study also shows that the main basis for long term optimal work with a maintenance plan is to make it easier to manage, which can be achieved by creating or transforming the plan to digitized data systems.

Colleges for Further Education and Training in South Africa, previously technical colleges, are important role players as service providers for education and training regarding the new learnership system implemented by the Department of Labour. The task of these colleges, regarding the new learnership system, is to present the theoretical components of approved learnerships as part of the learnership programme to learners. This training is done in co-operation with the workplace that in turn is responsible for the practical training. The Sector Education and Training Authority must approve all learnerships before it can be referred to the Department of Labour or presented in any way. Based on the above-mentioned facts, the researcher deemed it necessary to determine if Colleges for Further Education and Training are geared for the implementation of the new learnership system. This study focuses on the necessary capacity for the presentation of the learnerships and the available facilities of the colleges. This information has been collected by means of questionnaires sent to the colleges as respondents. The researcher also sent questionnaires to technikons, universities and industries in order to obtain the information for the specific sectors. With the gathering of this information, processed by the computer department of the Department Information Management, Division: Statistical Consultation Services (Statcon) of the Rand Afrikaans University, the focus has been primarily on the Colleges for Further Education and Training, technikons and universities, by comparing the processed information.

▼ Co-operative credit structure is an important
segment of the Indian Banking set up. At the advent of last
century, these banks were established as a tool of state policy to
provide adequate, timely and cheap credit to peasants, to save them
from the clutches of money- lenders. These banks have played a
crucial role in the Indian financial system. Agriculture being
prime sector of Indian economy needs a very strong, efficient and
effective institutional credit support even today. With their vast
network, wider coverage and outreach extending to the remotest part
of country cooperatives banks are and will be prime institutional
agencies for agriculture and rural credit. Therefore it has been
repeatedly stressed that vitality and viability of the co-operative
institutions must be preserved to enable them to function
efficiently. In this context present study is an attempt to
evaluate the performance of DCCBs in Punjab and Haryana. The main
aim of study was to examine the resource composition, loan
portfolio, recovery position; NPAs, profitability and productivity
of selected cooperative banks. The study covered the period of nine
years i.e. 1999-2000 to 2007-2008 and secondary data was used.
Profitability is an important indicator of performance in banking
industry worldwide and there is a lot of variation in profitability
of DCCBs. Therefore DCCBs were classified into three categories of
high, average and low profitability. Six DCCBs had been selected
from each State as sample size for this study. Of these six banks
two DCCBs with high profitability, average profitability and low
profitability category had been selected. Being a time series data,
trend analysis and students? t-test was mainly employed to analyze
the data. The study brought out that sources of funds, their
components and loans outstanding had registered a significant
growth in all categories of DCCBs in Punjab and Haryana and both
were better managed in Punjab.

▼ The Dutch railway system is the most intensively used in Europe. This fact, although fascinating, it creates complexity and many interfaces in its operation. The performance of such a system is governed by many aspects and involves many parties. Furthermore, these aspects and parties will have different needs and perceive performance in a different way. In order for the system to operate as smooth as possible, performance agreements are being made in different organizational levels. These agreements guide ProRail on how to manage the railway system and what it should achieve regarding several performance aspects. However, the railway system, as well as ProRail, are not single entities. They are comprised of several organizational levels. Each of these levels has its own needs and peculiarities, which in theory should be represented by their prescribed performance requirements. This creates a coupling between the performance agreements. They should be suitable for each organizational level while at the same time connected. These interrelationships can provide an overview of how the system performs and where adjustments should be made. Nevertheless, if their coupling is too strong, the organization can become cumbersome and stagnate. On the other hand, if their coupling is too relaxed, there will be no guidance and connection to what ProRail wants to achieve regarding the performance of the system. This thesis would like to examine the interrelationships between three performance agreements of ProRail. The Management Concession, Plan and its Performance Management System. The examination is focused on how well these agreements are coupled regarding different performance areas. Its proposed advice is a framework which can potentially alleviate the weaknesses described above. Its purpose is to strengthen the coupling of performance agreements while at the same time, leave enough room for adjustments and innovation. Moreover, the structure of the framework intends to minimize shielding behaviours by providing a process-based approach in the communication of performance requirements. In order to achieve its goal, the thesis formulates one Main Research Question with three Sub Research Question to help build its line of reasoning. The following list presents these questions to the reader.

Knowing and understanding the functioning of the variables that influence and encourage companies to pursue the development of cooperative interorganizational relationships and, in addition, identifying different levels of intensity of the interdependence of current relationships of the Serra Gaucha’s furniture companies, both vertical and horizontal relations, is the challenge to be achieved with the present study. To address the reported issue, this research made use of fundamental concepts that govern the dimensions of this vision, which are: cooperative interorganizational relationships, the intensity of interdependence in relationships, the types of…

▼ In a large part of the Netherlands, middle-income households fall into the gap between the social housing sector and the market sector. Also, the supply in middle-income dwellings is too small. Municipalities face challenges in unwanted changes in the population of the city because different groups are having problems fulfilling their housing needs. In particular, lower- and middle-income groups are affected by the limited supply of housing suitable for their means. Also, as a result of national economizing, an increasing amount of elderly lives for a longer time at their own home, instead of in a healthcare institution, despite the fact they need a form of (mild) care. This group has a higher risk of the consequences of feeling lonely as well since a large part of this group lives alone. Different shared living concepts could contribute to partly solving the problems municipalities are facing. Rental- or buying prices could be lower, because of new business cases, the sharing of facilities and possibly square meters. Next to this, important social networks could be set up, which leads to differentiation and better social cohesion in a city. There are several initiatives for shared living projects, but despite mentioning the willingness to facilitate new forms of living and organizing this by some municipalities in their housing visions, different bottlenecks are making the realization of the projects difficult. One form of shared living, which is upcoming again, and can realize projects offering houses with a rent in the social and middle segment in a city, is the housing cooperative. This research will map the bottlenecks and potential solutions for these bottlenecks, in the process of realizing a housing cooperative, in cities in the Netherlands.

▼ In recent years, there has been a rapid evolution and deployment of wireless networks. In populated areas, high-rate data access is enabled anywhere and anytime with the pervasive wireless infrastructure such as the fourth-generation (4G) cellular systems, IEEE 802.11-based wireless local area networks (WLANs), and IEEE 802.16-based wireless metropolitan area networks (WMANs). In such a heterogeneous wireless access medium, multi-radio devices become a trend for users to conveniently explore various services offered by different wireless systems. This thesis presents radio resource management mechanisms, for bandwidth allocation, call admission control (CAC), and mobile terminal (MT) energy management, that can efficiently exploit the available resources in the heterogeneous wireless medium and enhance the user perceived quality-of-service (QoS).
Almost all existing studies on heterogeneous networking are limited to the traditional centralized infrastructure, which is inflexible in dealing with practical scenarios, especially when different networks are operated by different service providers. In addition, in most current wireless networks, mobile users are simply viewed as service recipients in network operation, with passive transceivers completely or partially under the control of base stations or access points. In this thesis, we present efficient decentralized bandwidth allocation and CAC mechanisms that can support single-network and multi-homing calls. The decentralized architecture gives an active role to the MT in the resource management operation. Specifically, an MT with single-network call can select the best wireless network available at its location, while an MT with multi-homing call can determine a required bandwidth share from each network to satisfy its total required bandwidth. The proposed mechanisms rely on cooperative networking and offer a desirable flexibility between performance measures (in terms of the allocated bandwidth per call and the call blocking probability), and between the performance and the implementation complexity.
With the increasing gap between the MT demand for energy and the offered battery capacity, service degradation is expected if the MT cannot efficiently manage its energy consumption. Specifically, for an uplink multi-homing video transmission, the existing studies do not guarantee that the MT available energy can support the entire call, given the battery energy limitation. In addition, the energy management mechanism should take account of video packet characteristics, in terms of packet distortion impact, delay deadline, and precedence constraint, and employ the available resources in the heterogeneous wireless medium. In this thesis, we present MT energy management mechanisms that can support a target call duration, with a video quality subject to the MT battery energy limitation. In addition, we present a statistical guarantee framework that can support a consistent video quality for the target call duration with minimum power consumption.

The role of local government in disaster risk management: a case of the City of Cape Town in the Western Province of South Africa.

▼ Much has been said about the continued escalation of disasters, impacting negatively on the people’s livelihoods; mostly the poor. However, not enough is done to minimise or reduce the vulnerability of the people to risks as evidenced by the increasing numbers of disaster victims locally, nationwide and globally (Sahoo, 2005; Humby, 2012, Niekerk, 2005; Heijmans, 2008 and Cannon, 1994). The increasing disaster strikes in the City of Cape Town remain a major challenge to the surrounding communities (Cape Argus, 27 August 2012; Radar, 2010; Pillay, 2012 and Humby, 2012). Despite the expiry of the United Nations’ declaration of the period 1990-99 as ‘the decade for natural disaster risk reduction in 1999, the years after the declaration were characterised by increased disaster strikes globally (Niekerk, 2005; GTZ, 2002; UNDP, 2004 and Alexander, 2006). Although, new global commitments such as the 2005-15 Hyogo Framework for Action (HFA) which targeted to minimise disaster risks by 2015, very little has changed as people are increasingly becoming more vulnerable to risks than before (Niekerk, 2005; Heijmans, 2008; Alexander, 2006 and Radar, 2010). South Africa’s statistics on past recorded disaster events from the eighties to the present, show the same increased trend in the loss of property and human capital. For example, in South Africa, the period from 1980 to 2010 recorded 77 disaster strikes with a total of 1869 people being killed and negatively affecting 18 million livelihoods nationwide (Humby, 2012). Given such high figures of casualties, the negative impact of disaster remains one of South Africa’s major challenges as it curtails sustainable development. It is against this background that the study embarked on an investigation to establish the effectiveness and efficiency of the City of Cape Town Metro Municipal local government’s approaches to disaster risks. The principal objective of the study was to determine the effectiveness and efficiency of the City of Cape Municipal Government in addressing the persistent disaster risks through a proper implementation of the core disaster principles of risk reduction, prevention and mitigation, as well as the post-disaster activities of preparedness, rehabilitation, response and recovery. The specific objectives of the study are: (i) to assess whether incorporating disaster risk
management into the integrated developing plan (IDP) has the potential to mitigate or prevent disasters; (ii) to examine the extent to which the City of Cape Town can make use of the principle of co-operative governance and assistance in disaster risk
management; and (iii) to evaluate the impact of public participation in disaster risk mitigation, prevention and reduction. The study employed an integrated approach to data gathering. Sources of data included government acts, policies, internet sources and journal articles were included. These sources were supplemented by individual interviews with disaster officials and community members. From the investigation, the study found that neither…

context. This decision records
individuals’ degree of
self-interest behaviour as opposed to the institutional interest
and
individuals’ responsibility of equitable distribution of
common pooled resources.
Significant relationships were found to
explain the degree of self-interest portrayed by
board members for
the
cooperative institution and a relationship construct was
devised
to illustrate the various aspects. Recommendations were
made to reduce the degree of
self-interest behaviour that board
members portray in favour of behaviour that is within
the best
interest of the institution.

Gender, empowerment, and hegemonic masculinity: analyzing social relations among cooperative recyclers in São Paulo, Brazil.

▼ This project explores the gender relations among a group of recyclers belonging to a consortium of nine recycling cooperatives in the ABC region of São Paulo, Brazil. Employing a feminist geographical lens and participatory research methodologies I examine these uniquely gendered spaces. This thesis is divided into four sections. Each section is written in an attempt to improve understandings of the ways in which the spaces of the recycling cooperatives are gendered.
In the first section I provide information that frames the thesis and the larger research project. I begin this section by providing a geographical and socio-economic overview of the region where the research took place. This is followed by a discussion of my research methodology, a literature review of the relationship between women, solid waste, and labour in Brazil, and a look at my reflexive positioning as a researcher on this project.
Section two explores the relationship between gender, empowerment and equity among
cooperative recyclers involved with this study. This section poses the question: in what
ways has the recycling
cooperative allowed for women to inspire personal and social change and have the power to influence the institutions that affect their lives? I argue that the recycling cooperatives involved with this study are spaces where individuals who have traditionally lacked access to power are granted the opportunities to empower themselves.
Section three is about performed social relations, specifically the role of hegemonic masculinity in shaping gendered space within the recycling cooperatives. Drawing from qualitative research data, this section critically explores the deployment of power within the lives of the
cooperative recyclers. First, I explore the concept of hegemonic masculinity, and suggest its importance for understanding gendered space. Second, I draw on my personal research experiences and qualitative data to provide a spatial examination of the most salient aspects of hegemonic masculinity in the lives of the female
cooperative recyclers. Third, I support the notion that masculine domination is not something only established by men and designed to oppress women, but women themselves can construct and reinforce hegemonic masculinities.
Section four concludes the study by highlighting apparent shortcomings of the research and implications for future research. Concerned with apparent contradictions between the arguments in sections two and three, I provide a discussion of the multiplicities of space and explain that such contradictions are inherent to the nature of social space. Following this I offer a critical self-reflection of my methodology were I discuss my complicity in reproducing gender binaries and post-colonial research practices.

▼ The Hampton Roads region of southeast Virginia is largely defined by its abundant water resources. These water resources are also a source of unique issues for the region. Specifically, water quality challenges related to the Chesapeake Bay and recurrent flooding are the major concerns. Green infrastructure (GI) has emerged in recent years as an alternative to traditional stormwater conveyance and detention focused systems. GI practices focus on integrating infiltration, evapotranspiration, and other components of the water cycle into more conventional stormwater
management systems. These systems provide several positive benefits, including local water quality and quantity control, community revitalization, and various public health benefits. In addition, GI implementation has seen strong levels of support from the
Cooperative Extension System, with Extension faculty and staff around the U.S. supporting local municipalities through GI research, promotion, and program development. Despite widespread interest, GI has been slow to be adopted due to various barriers to its implementation. This study sought to identify the major barriers to the implementation of GI practices in Hampton Roads by conducting a needs assessment. Municipal stormwater staff were invited to participate in an online survey aimed at identifying the most significant barriers in the region. At the same time, local staff with Virginia
Cooperative Extension (VCE) were interviewed to explore their potential to become involved in promoting GI adoption in Hampton Roads. Survey respondents and interview participants found common ground in identifying costs, funding, and maintenance issues as the most significant barriers to GI implementation in Hampton Roads. In addition, VCE staff were found to be well suited to support widespread GI adoption in the region, having familiarity with the GI concept and access to unique resources in the form of knowledgeable Master Gardener volunteers and connections to Virginia Tech. Recommendations for VCE involvement in promoting GI in Hampton Roads include conducting cost studies, developing and hosting maintenance training programs, and taking advantage of partnerships to identify and obtain funding from diverse sources. By focusing on these widely acknowledged challenges at the regional scale, VCE can support GI implementation throughout all of Hampton Roads.

▼ A portfolio problem within agricultural cooperatives arises as a result of the traditional
cooperative's property rights structure. As members' investment is tied to patronage, this traditional structure prevents them from adjusting
cooperative investment to reflect their appetite for risk at the
cooperative level. The study develops an opportunity cost of capital framework to test and extend the existing scope of the problem. To date the portfolio problem has been conceptualized in a lateral dimension; that is, the potential for conflict between members with differing commodity production portfolios at the farm level. The framework extends this conceptualization to the vertical dimension of potential conflict between members producing the same commodity with differing growth strategies and their consequent ability to gain benefit from their existing pattern of
cooperative investment. the study demonstrates that new challenges may arise when a
cooperative adopts non traditional structures and/or business strategies to ameliorate this problem.

Agricultural cooperatives are intermediary economic structures that allow the creation of more favorable conditions of relationship with the markets. According to Cook (1995), these organizations have diffuse or vaguely defined property rights leading to management difficulties and economic inefficiency. From the mentioned aspects, this dissertation proposed to analyze and discuss the existence of the problem of the horizon and the hitch in cooperatives of milk producers familiar in Rio Grande do Sul, cooperatives with a different profile of the organizations analyzed by Cook (1995) and later by Brazilian authors. For this purpose, a non-probabilistic intentional sample was used in which 2 cooperatives of family milk producers were surveyed. Thirty-one semi-structured interview scripts were applied to the cooperative milk producers, officials and presidents of the organizations selected…

▼ The days of big business being conducted in a centralized location are over, globalization is on the rise, and todayâs top talents are thinking twice before relocating to large cities in search of work. Virtual teams are here to stay, and team leaders must give careful consideration on how their distributed teams will collaborate to meet the teamâs goals. Technology plays a key role in allowing virtual teams to collaborate, and the software utilized by a virtual team must facilitate the team's. A team leaderâs choice in selecting software is critical in deciding how the team will collaborate daily, as well as defining how the team will work towards their long-term goals.
The objective of this study is to explore how different Information Technology (IT) systems are utilized by virtual teams to complete different types of group tasks. Previous studies have explored how team leaders go about selecting communication technologies to support virtual teams, but in the time since these studies took place, new technologies have emerged and become key facilitators in virtual team collaboration. In addition to
cooperative work systems, this study looks to expand on those studies by discussing the role of project and resource
management and knowledge
management systems in virtual team collaboration. This study explores the roles that these three IT systems play in completing group tasks, as laid out in Joseph E. McGrathâs comprehensive group task typology.
For this study, in-depth interviews were conducted with members of three different virtual teams to understand the role that software plays in facilitating their teamâs activities. The findings indicate that project
management and knowledge
management systems, along with
cooperative work systems, do play a key role in virtual team activities. This is especially true within planning, intellective, decision-making, cognitive conflict, and performance related tasks.

▼ ENGLISH ABSTRACT: In recent years, both local and international demand for South African wine have seen significant growth. This includes demand for packaged exports as well as bulk exports. However, the South African wine industry has placed emphasis on increasing packaged export and decreasing bulk exports to create a larger market share for brand SA in international countries. This correlates to the Wine Industry Strategic Exercise (WISE), which aims to increase the packaged-bulk ratio from the current 40:60 to 60:40 by 2025. This increase will require stakeholders of the industry to work closely together to produce more packaged wine at the lowest possible price while utilising the available bottling capacity to the best of their ability. Communication and information sharing, i.e. collaboration between wine bottling facilities, wineries and dry goods suppliers are of the essence to ensure that bottling delays and missed production opportunities are avoided and that demand requirements are met in a timely manner. The coordination of ordering activities, delivery as well as the availability of dry goods and wine for a given production period are essential for bottling facilities and their various supply chain partners, as these factors all influence the ability of the stakeholders to deliver packaged orders on time and in full. Previous studies highlighted a lack of integrated decision-making capabilities within the wine supply chain, resulting in a decrease in responsiveness and reliability. This study identifies the key dimensions and aspects that must be included in a collaborative framework to enable stakeholders in this supply chain environment to work together, looking to enhance decision-making capabilities, ultimately increasing responsiveness and reliability. The Wine Industry Collaboration (WIC) framework proposed, is developed using literature, primarily replying on the concept of Collaborative Planning, Forecasting and Replenishment (CPFR) as primary input. In addition, the researcher conducted several interviews with a variety of industry stakeholders to gain further understanding of the industry and the challenges. This along with the implementation guidelines, serves to guide stakeholders towards the successful implementation of a collaborative effort. Several
subject-matter experts (SMEs) validated the WIC framework, focusing on its practicality, feasibility and structure. The researcher used semi-structured interviews to perform the validation. This assisted the researcher to make appropriate amendments where needed and to incorporate improvements. Finally, the implementation guidelines, derived from the validated WIC framework are validated using a theoretical case study at a wine bottling facility. It was found that a need exists for such a structured collaborative approach and that the implementation of such a framework would enable the sharing of demand information, improve order planning and fulfillment and finally help stakeholders with performance measurement. In conclusion, the South…

Conflict amongst cooperative members in Vumengazi, KwaZulu-Natal, is a major cause of concern, growing to an extent that threatens their survival. Lack of management skills tends to create conflict in cooperatives: members vie for a management position in the business, however, they often have no clear commitment or understanding of the duties required in management positions, even enough to handle the day-to-day challenges. Some of the groups formed a cooperative not because they have a joint objective, but because they planned to use the cooperative as a platform to access available resources. In most cases, the groups who formed the basis for this study lacked cohesiveness and this led to internal conflicts and an inability to work together. In most of the cooperatives, there were no professional business plans and they lacked feasibility with identifiable and foreseeable market opportunities. There were no drafted documents constitutions to govern the directors.
The researcher undertook this study to investigate the following:
• What are the contributing factors to conflict within the cooperatives?
• What is the role of the 2005 Co-operatives Act in resolving conflict within the cooperatives?
• What are effective ways to resolve conflicts within the cooperatives?
A case study design using qualitative methodology was used in this study. In-depth understanding was needed; qualitative methodology was appropriate for a study of this nature. A sample of four co-operatives out of 20 from Wards 84 and 100, eNgonyameni Tribal Area, Vumengazi, was selected to identify the nature, extent, causes and consequences of conflicts, to assess the effectiveness of existing provisions for conflict resolution and the way they are implemented, to plan and implement an intervention strategy aimed at resolving conflicts to provide a foundation to resolve future conflicts. I engaged five people in a participatory action research programme and a focus group to establish the findings.
Findings include a low standard of education among members; some members are very old who do not respect the youth. Gossip among the members led to cooperative issues being discussed in the community, thereby exacerbating conflict. Some of the cooperative members have primary education and they are unable to read and write English, however, the Act is written in English. Members of the cooperatives do not deal with conflict nor resolve it; there is no plan in place for such resolution. Members therefore keep grudges and bring them to work and meetings. Mismanagement of funds was found to be problematic. Conflict occurred regularly, partially because of the inability to analyse conflict among members and inability to apply peaceful conflict resolution methods.
Recommendations as a result of the study are that peace education, both formal and informal, must be a prerequisite…

Post-conflict countries have a range of needs of interventions in the reconstruction efforts. These efforts require immediate, medium and long term interventions. DDR process require the immediate restoration of security which requires demobilization in the both the regular army and armed groups. Demobilized combatants need to be economically and socially re-integrated in their local communities. Therefore governments through demobilization commissions or programmes ensure that ex-combatant is re-integrated as matter of governments’ responsibility. In the specific case of this research, former members of armed groups from DRC and former RDF soldiers all members of an Agricultural cooperative based in Jabana (Kigali City) have been participants to this research which is by nature an action research project aiming most importantly on participation outputs oriented to learning.
Before this project, economic, political, social and psychological dimensions among the ex-combatants were frustrating. However, after this project, the following were discovered: Economically, the approaches that have been used allowed ex-combatants to learn basic and necessary skills of creative entrepreneurship while working in corporate setting. Socially, this research discovered that the nature of research requires working in group settings in addition to personal and collective participation toward the attainment of the project’s objectives. Working in group settings is the social cohesion that originates from sharing common goals, interests, successes and failures if any. In addition, group members became best friends among themselves and relied on each other in time of need. At psychological level, ex-combatants have gained self-confidence, self-trust, and removal of past negative clichés that they used to hold against each other. Finally, in the implementation of this research, aspects of peace-building, together with unity and reconciliation and peace-building in its broad term has been witnessed from its outset to the concluding phase of the research. Recommendations were devised; some are formulated towards ex-combatants at individual level and others for RDRP.

The present work aimed to analyse the possibilities of the local development of an efficient Cooperative Management developed through the strategies establishment, driven to both Economic Management and Social Management of these organizations. For this study, it was necessary to correlate development with cooperativism, from the authors that emphasize the fact when the development to involve other factors as important as the economic growth and the wealth distribution in addition it is reasoned in theories that emphasize it like process. The study was consummated in the Credit Cooperative of the São Roque de Minas / SICOOB-SAROMCREDI. In this research, it was noticed that the local development in São Roque de Minas is based on the interaction and in the deepening of certain dynamics lied in the towns trajectory, favored from an endogenous initiative of collective solution for the access to financial services. In this way, it stands out the actuation of the credit cooperative like an articulator and supporter of the local development. Based on that, it was three relevant dynamics in the study of the case.
