▼ This thesis emphasizes on an alternate instructional tool called “Concept Map”. The goal of this study was to determine the effectiveness of using concept maps in improving the science achievement of 10th -grade students and compare it with a traditional approach for a Biology unit. Furthermore, the interaction of the student’s concept mapping ability and their learning gains was investigated. Both the control and the experimental groups were required to take a pre test before instruction and a posttest at the end of three weeks. The test consisting of 31 questions was used to assess learning gains on a Biology Unit about Balance in Nature. Student-constructed maps were scored using Novak’s scoring scheme. The first finding of the study was that concept map – exposed students did not perform much better than the same level students in the traditional group. The difference in the learning gains between the experimental and the control group in their unit test, though statistically significant, did not seem to be solely due to concept mapping. The second finding indicated that total scores in concept maps did not strongly predict student achievement in Science. Moreover, results showed that the levels of concept mapping ability were not associated with the concept- mapping students’ learning gains. Nevertheless, the study suggests that, when carefully integrated into the normal classroom procedure and when other contributing factors such as student motivation and preparedness, reading ability levels, time and classroom environment are considered, concept mapping has a potential to be an effective instructional strategy.

▼ Graphic organizers have been used in the classroom since the late 1960’s. Several studies have been published on the effects of graphic organizers on cognitive learning and yet the traditional method of teaching in the science classroom still remains strongly focused on traditional lecture and note taking. This study shows that relative to traditional methods graphic organizers maintain equivalent learning gains, but increase excitement and engagement among the students. The purpose of this study was to assess traditional lecture vs. traditional lecture with the addition of concept maps to determine if concept maps affect learning gains in the high school science classroom. The study used 86 traditional Biology students. The students were given both a pre-test and post-test on two separate units in the Biology curriculum. The first unit covered Charles Darwin and the theory of natural selection, while the second unit covered the muscular and skeletal systems. Although there was a slight increase in learning gains when concept maps were used, statistical analysis determined that this small increase was not significant for this sample size. There was a statistically significant difference in learning gains between the two units however. An attitudinal survey given at the end of the course showed that students preferred using the concept maps in addition to traditional lecture over traditional lecture alone.

▼ The purpose of this study was to analyze how the school-within-a-school setting
interacts with the non-academic self-
concept of gifted and talented students in grades 6-
8. A case study approach was used to discover how grouping gifted and talented
students in the school-within-a-school interacted with non-academic self-
concept. The
findings were analyzed based on the students’ and parents’ perceptions and experiences
to understand how the school-within-a-school setting impacted the students’ self-
concept.
The findings show the grouping of gifted and talented students in a school-within-
a school setting was positive for both students and parents. The students reported
positive experiences during their two or three years of attending the specialized school-within-
a-school. Students and parents reported that personal factors, including friends
and academic opportunities, contributed to a positive experience. Students reported that
behavioral factors, including academic performance and academic support, contributed
to a positive self-
concept. Additionally, students reported that being in a school-within-a
school setting with other gifted students allowed them to create and develop positive
relationships with age and intellectual peers within the specialized setting and the larger
context of the entire school.
In order to increase the self-
concept of students in the school-within-a-school
setting, specific opportunities were developed for students to talk about giftedness and
how they see themselves as gifted individuals. Resources for developing differentiated
learning experiences should be written into curriculum documents to allow teachers to
develop multiple entry points for the varying readiness levels of the students.
Professional learning opportunities should also be utilized to help teachers share
exemplars and experiences which may increase academic opportunities for students to
have meaningful instructional experiences and increased non-academic and academic
achievement for students.

▼ The problem of this study is that there is lack of valid and reliable self-
concept instruments that measure the
hierarchical and multidimensional facets of self-
concept. While there are many such kind of validated
instruments in other parts of the world, particularly in the West, no significant validation of instruments is
carried out in Ethiopia, and particularly in the Amhara cultural community. The validation of the Self
Description Questionnaire I (SDQI) by this study helps to conduct further studies by the instrument so that
more self-
concept theories will be supported and interventions will be designed based on findings than what
was done before. The purpose of the study is to find out the validity and reliability of the Self Description
Questionnaire I and the applicability of its related theories among the Amhara community.
In the study 132 students whose age is from 8 to 12 were selected from Amhara community in North Showa
using convenient sampling. A questionnaire was administered on the children and focus groups discussions
were held. The children completed the 76-item SDQI that measures the 8 facets self-
concept. The analyses
were done using the AMOS approach to Confirmatory Factor Analysis. Sex and Age effects in the multiple
dimensions of self-
concept were tested using multivariate and univariate Analysis of Variance.
Validity, reliability and factor structure of the SDQI scales is established by the responses that supports the
use of the SDQI on children of the Amhara community; the reliability median estimates have shown some
increment with age. Individual indicator reliability is established while there are high levels of internal
consistency reliability in all eight factors. While convergent validity among the factors is partly confirmed
discriminant validity was not well established.
The hierarchical and multidimensional structure of self-
concept of children is dominantly demonstrated as
stipulated by the one general factor, two factor, and 8 factor models and the qualitative data. The 8-factor
model has the highest fits to the data both for total group and for each age group and its parameter estimates
show that all 8 factors are distinctly demonstrated. Some data imply that the children rate themselves less in
older ages than they used to do in their earlier ages. It is inconclusive, however, as to whether children better
differentiate the eight self-
concept dimensions as their age increases. The highest correlations involve the
math and school scales while general self is affected most by math and school selves. With regard to the total
group it is ability and peer relation that have the highest correlation. The sizes of the uniquenesses decrease
with age. When total self-
concept that is averaged across all 8 scales is assessed the effects of age was
significant, while the effect of sex and their interaction were non-significant.
Since the validity, reliability and factor structure of the Self Description Questionnaire I scales is established
by the study it can be…

▼ This thesis proposes a solution in which Inertial Measurement Units(IMU) are placed along the thoracic section of the spine and measures the movement and rotation of the spine and subsequently also the back. The proposed solution should be able to help the user reduce the risk of injuries related to posture or lifting. Four IMU sensor devices has been constructed and they communicate with an Arduino Uno by means of I2C. Due to the project being at thesis level the amount of time available is limited and the practical parts of the project are scaled down to creating a basic proof of concept system to test the feasibility of the proposed solution. The proposed system is intended to one day become part of a wireless body area network(WBAN).

▼ Recently, developments in Dutch biology education led to a conceptual framework for primary science education in which the
concept-context approach holds a central position. The framework includes combinations of concepts and contexts. This study describes how choices can be made in the selection of concepts of the framework to include in the curriculum and which guidelines can be followed. The focus lies on the
concept animal. It is aimed to arrive at an elaboration of the
concept animal in terms of underlying and related concepts for primary science education. Especially guidelines were collected to justify choices for including certain concepts in the curriculum over others. Primary teacher educators for science education and primary school students along a range of ages (4, 8, and 12 years old) were interviewed, alongside an analysis of methods for primary science education and a questionnaire to experts were carried out. This was done in order to identify guidelines, underlying concepts and/or everyday life contexts interesting for primary school students. With this two example elaborations for different age categories were made and subsequently presented, along with the found guidelines, to experts during a focus group discussion to discuss it on possibilities and limitations. The findings revealed that various guidelines can be used. Ultimately, three cornerstones (context,
subject and didactics) should be taken into account when selecting concepts. To elaborate the
concept animal, a suggested procedure, in which the interaction between selecting concepts and contexts is central, can be used. This might be a further step to translate the
concept-context approach to the educational practice in primary science education.

concept map methode omgezet in één
concept map.

▼ The term concept drift refers to the change of distribution underlying the data. It is an inherent property of evolving data streams. Concept drift detection and adaptation has been considered an important component of learning under evolving data streams and has attracted increasing attention in recent years.
According to the existing literature, the most commonly used definition of concept drift is constrained to discrete feature space. The categorization of concept drift is complicated and has limited contribution to solving concept drift problems. As a result, there is a gap to uniformly describe concept drift for both discrete and continuous feature space, and to be a guideline to addressing the root causes of concept drift.
The objective of existing concept drift handling methods mainly focuses on identifying when is the best time to intercept training samples from data streams to construct the cleanest concept. Most only consider concept drift as a time-related distribution change, and are disinterested in the spatial information related to the drift. As a result, if a drift detection or adaptation method does not have spatial information regarding the drift regions, it can only update learning models or their training dataset in terms of time-related information, which may result in an incomplete model update or unnecessary training data reduction. In particular, if a false alarm is raised, updating the entire training set is costly and may degrade the overall performance of the learners. For the same reason, any regional drifts, before becoming globally significant, will not trigger the adaptation process and will result in a delay in the drift detection process. These disadvantages limit the accuracy of machine learning under evolving data streams.
To better address concept drift problems, this thesis proposes a novel Regional Drift Adaptation (RDA) framework that introduces spatial-related information into concept drift detection and adaptation. In other words, RDA-based algorithms consider both time-related and spatial information for concept drift handling (concept drift handling includes both drift detection and adaptation).
In this thesis, a formal definition of regional drift is given which has theoretically proved that any types of concept drift can be represented as a set of regional drifts. According to these findings, a series of regional drift-oriented drift adaptation algorithms have been developed, including the Nearest Neighbor-based Density Variation Identification (NN-DVI) algorithm which focuses on improving concept drift detection accuracy, the Local Drift Degree-based Density Synchronization Drift Adaptation (LDD-DSDA) algorithm which focuses on boosting the performance of learners with concept drift adaptation, and the online Regional Drift Adaptation (online-RDA) algorithm which incrementally solves concept drift problems quickly and with limited storage requirements. Finally, an extensive evaluation on various benchmarks, consisting of both synthetic and real-world data streams,…

▼ The notion concept is used in different ways within the field of mathematics education. The aim of this study is to carry out a concept analysis of the notion concept, within some frequently used frameworks describing conceptual understanding. Building on a philosophical literature review resulting in distinctions that can be used for interpreting views on concept, the study addresses the question: Which views on concept may be found in texts using the chosen frameworks, from the perspective of the distinctions mental versus non-mental, intersubjective versus subjective and molecular versus holistic? The design involves a literature review in mathematics education, resulting in a selection of texts. Views on concept, and to some extent on concept image, conception, and schema, are then interpreted with the help of indicators, and represented in 3D matrices.
There are two categories of views on concept within the texts: a mental and intersubjective category, and a non-mental and intersubjective category. One difference between the views is whether conceptual structures have molecular or holistic features. Concerning the notions concept image, conception, and schema, there are generally three different views: an individual view and two culturally dependent views. The different views are sometimes combined. One result is findings regarding how language is used within the texts, where non-mental and mental arenas, and terms and meanings of terms, are not always distinguished. The main contribution of the study is to deepen the understanding of views on the notion concept and how terminology is used in mathematics education. This opens the way for a discussion of how the terminology mentioned above may be used coherently within the field of mathematics education.

▼ Rolling resistance is a prime factor effecting fuel
consumption of an ultra class haul truck. Capital intensive mining
industry has always been interested to reduce rolling resistance of
haul roads thus reducing operating costs by saving fuel. In view of
the importance of rolling resistance in movement of ultra class
haul trucks on haul roads, commonly used materials sand, oil sand,
pit run and limestone were tested. Tests were performed with a
scaled truck proportionately fifteen times smaller than ultra class
haul truck. Oil sand considered as a base material was capped with
other materials and tests were repeated. Results obtained from test
data was found to be applicable for ultra class haul truck tire and
rolling resistance was estimated. This research will help in
selection of materials for haul roads and quantify rolling
resistance in mining industry.

incentivo e altas cargas tributárias e, galgando as possibilidades do mercado local, empresas
representativo do Brasil.

▼ This study investigated the effect of short internship on college students’ self-concept. The null hypothesis of this study is that there will be no significant difference in the total self concept, as measured by a standardized self-concept instrument, with college students who complete a course requiring a short internship and students who complete a course that does not have a short internship component. The Tennessee Self-Concept Scale: Second Edition was used to assess the self-concept of the participants. Higher education institutions have increased the requirement of service learning experiences and internships in their curriculums. There has been little research to determine if these learning experiences increase the self-concept of the student. This exploratory/descriptive study used an experimental control group design with a demographic survey. There were 19 participants in the experimental group and 12 participants in the control group. Multiple single factor repeated-measures ANOVAs (one-way analysis of variance) revealed no differences between the experimental and control groups or within the groups of participants. In summary, the results of this study confirm that short internships did not result in statistically significant differences in student self-concept as measured by the TSCS: 2 of the participants used in this study.

▼ Representations in the form of concept maps have been shown to be a benefit to leaners. However, previous research examined the influence of these representations in learning in well-structured environments. Additionally, previous research suggests that increasing the activity of students in learning environments has also been shown to yield gains in learning, called the generation effect. The current study extends the literature by examining the influence generative activities and concept map representations have on an ill-structured reasoning process, namely thinking like a lawyer. Pre- and posttests targeting factual knowledge, recall, and transfer were used to assess learning, while verbal protocols were implemented to examine learning processes used by participants. Results were mixed. Representation and activity had no effect on factual knowledge, recall, and near transfer measures. Verbal protocol results showed that students who studied with the concept map representation condition produced a higher proportion of deep utterances during problem solving when using static representations compared to those that generated their representation. The opposite was true for students in the text list condition. Those who generated their text list representation during study produced a higher proportion of deep utterances in problem solving when compared to those who studied with a static list. Thus, a careful consideration of topical materials and learning environments is necessary to determine whether or not concept maps and generation effects will encourage deeper comprehension in learners.

▼ Each of us has a self-concept – the set of
characteristics that reflect the type of person we are (Wakslak et
al. 2008) – within which exist specific self-schema and
self-identities that guide our behavior in different situations. It
is well established that particular constructs and identities can
be differentially activated (primed) through a variety of means,
such as exposure to words (Bargh, Chen, and Burrows 1996), objects
(Berger and Fitzsimons 2008), and images (McKee, Nhean, Hanson, and
Mase 2006). Little is known, however, about whether – or how –
multiple aspects of one’s self-concept can be differentially or
simultaneously primed by a single intervention. This dissertation
introduces the general self-concept prime – the notion that a
single intervention (such as signing one’s name) can lead to the
activation of one or more distinct aspects of one’s self-concept.
In three essays, I examine the general self-concept priming effect
of signing one’s name, investigate how a general self-concept prime
influences performance and other behaviors, and identify other
interventions that serve as general self-concept
primes.

▼ The purposes of this dissertation were to (a) develop
an instrument that assess the physical self-concept of muscularity
among young adults, (b) produce content validity, internal
structural validity and external criterion-related validity
evidence to support the new instrument, and (c) develop internal
consistency and stability evidence supporting the new instrument.
Physical self-concept and body image research generally focuses on
body-fatness, but since the 1990s, perceptions of muscularity have
been a growing concern for some men and women (McCreary &
Sadava, 2001; McCreary & Sasse, 2000; Olivardia et al.,
2004; Pope et al., 2000). Currently, self-concept of muscularity
measures use silhouettes that show inconsistent validity and
reliability (Cafri & Thompson, 2004). The two most popular
physical self-concept instruments (Physical Self-Perception
Profile, Fox & Corbin, 1989; and Physical Self-Description
Questionnaire, Marsh, Richards, Johnson, Roche, &
Tremayne,1994) do not include a measure of muscularity. The first
study in this dissertation assessed the content relevance and
representativeness of the new instrument based on ratings provided
by an expert panel of academics. The second study assessed the
content relevance and representativeness of the new instrument
based on ratings provided by a panel of fitness experts. The third
study assessed the internal structural validity of the instrument
using exploratory factor analysis. The fourth study assessed the
internal structural validity using exploratory factor analysis,
criterion related validity (external variables included body mass
index, physical activity level, exercise participation, exercise
identity, drive for muscularity and drive for thinness) and
internal consistency reliability and stability over a one-week time
period. The validity evidence presented in this dissertation
provides support for the general physical-self concept scale which
includes the self-concepts of muscle-tone, muscle-bulk,
muscle-strength and body-fat. The distinction of muscle-tone
relative to muscle-bulk and body-fatness requires future work to
improve the conceptual clarity of these constructs.

▼ Impression management plays a key part in social interaction. But its effects on self-concept change are merely studied. So this study investigates whether impression management will affect peoples‘ self-concept based on two-component model, studying the motivation of impression management and construction of it. Also, impression management as a certain behavior is affected by attitudes towards targets. This study adopt a speed-dating style experiment, requires participants evaluate their attitudes for each conversation partners and their feelings about themselves immediately after each conversation. The results demonstrate that people‘s attitudes towards targets, including the feeling of liking and evaluation of being liked, are related to how much effort people put into impression management. However, this attitude almost has nothing to do with how people manage their impressions, either by verbal behavior or nonverbal behavior. Furthermore, impression management has effect on people‘s self-concept shift. The harder people try to convey good images the more self-concept changes. Similarly, people choosing more positive nonverbal behavior are more likely to positively evaluate themselves, while negative nonverbal behavior is related to reduce of self-concept. However, there are merely relationships between verbal behavior and self-concept change, for not controlling individual differences.

▼ ENGLISH ABSTRACT: This study explores the influence of popular culture on male adolescents’ construction of masculinity. A theoretical engagement with the concepts of culture and ideology is linked to the
concept of popular culture. The notion of culture and ideology, connected to popular culture, is unpacked, and the various definitions of the
concept reflected upon in an attempt to arrive at a more holistic understanding of the term. Using the terms of culture, ideology and popular culture as a foundation, the study explores Superman as an example of popular culture, taking into account the history of the creators of Superman, the evolution of the character as well as a fictional biography of Superman as a mythical hero. This also includes a deliberation on the Christological aspect of Superman, and a discussion of Superman situated in the sphere of culture and more specifically, popular culture.
This study also encompasses a reflection on the history of masculinity development. Specific attention is devoted to the impact of feminist theory on masculinity studies. A brief discussion of gender – the overarching notion that includes masculinity and femininity – is integrated in this consideration, as it establishes the foundation for the discussion of masculinities. The connection is made between masculinities and popular culture in South Africa, functioning as a theoretical basis to discusses and reflects upon the type of masculinity that Superman presents and the influence this character has on male adolescents.
To comprehend the construction of the current
concept of adolescence, the literature review considers the historical context of the
concept of adolescence and the changes in social reality over the centuries. Different viewpoints exist on the development of adolescence, which necessitates an overview of physiological, psychological and sociological factors. This, in turn, offers the groundwork for a discussion of male adolescence and the influence of these factors on the developmental process of male adolescence. The influence of popular culture,
referring to Superman as an example, demonstrates the impact this character has on male adolescents’ construction of masculinity.
Following the discussions on popular culture, masculinities, adolescent development and Superman, the normative approach of practical theological interpretation is applied, thereby contemplating on popular culture as the context, masculinities as the situation and male adolescent development as the episode. Included in this discussion are the circumstances of South Africans and the influence of these circumstances on male adolescent development.
Furthermore, the study reflects on the religious comparisons between Superman and Jesus Christ, deliberating between the distinctions of the sacred and profane and how these concepts intertwine in the context of popular culture. This introduces the theological exploration that includes a discussion of practical theological interpretation, feminist theory, feminist theology and the feminist…

▼ With the massive deluges of data that several domains of study experience, referred to as Big Data, the need to efficiently process and analyze data has risen. Ontologies have been employed to structure these domains with the ultimate purpose of generating new knowledge about the respective domain. Currently, when creating or examining an ontology, the concepts of the domain are limited to being statically defined in relation to other concepts. This limitation on the concept's definition affects the reasoning process by omitting or not properly representing all information that may exist in the domain such as how the constantly evolving environment changes how the data can be understood.
The resulting tool of this research, Conto, allows for the interpretation of a concept as an abstract data type. When coupled to knowledge generation process, these interpretations allow the obtention of new knowledge that would traditionally be unobtainable. The different types of knowledge that can be obtained via the multiple interpretations are explored in this work using examples of ontologies.
Conto is a Protege plugin that uses Ontograf to
display the ontologies.

▼ The aim of this study was to examine the effects of Father’s educational involvement on children’s educational aspiration, educational self-
concept and academic achievement of primary and secondary school students in some selected schools of Addis Ababa. Participants of this study were 260 adolescents (154 males and 106 females) selected randomly. Data about participants were collected through questionnaire, Father Involvement Scale, Educational Self
Concept and Aspiration Scaleand biographical form. Data were analyzed using both descriptive and inferential statistical methods. One sample T- test, independent T- test Pearson product moment correlation coefficient and regression were employed to uncover the associations among the variables considered. The results revealed that most fathers were not involved in their children’s educations. Most students score high on educational aspiration and self
concept scale. There was no statistically significant difference in father involvement in their children’s’ education between students from government and private school students’ on the other hand, there was a statistically significant relationship between educational aspiration and academic performance and educational self-
concept and students’ academic performance. Similarly there was a statistically significant relationship between father involvement and students academic performance. Predictor variables such as sex, grade level, age, father involvement, fathers educational status and fathers occupational situation, students’ educational aspiration and self
concept all in total contributed 11.8% for the variation of students’ academic performance. Out of 11.8% accounted for variations in students academic performance, 4.3% (age), 2.8% (grade level), 2.5% (sex) and 1.6% (students educational self
concept) were contributed by these variables. Practical implications of the findings were discussed.

▼ The purpose of this study was to determine the extent to which SACCOs have adopted branding and determine factors hindering product branding among the SACCOs with FOSAs in Nairobi. The study used a descriptive research design. The population consisted of all savings and credit cooperative societies offering front office services in Nairobi Province. Since the population of this study was small (39) the researcher opted to carry out a census study. Primary data was used using a structured questionnaire with closed and open ended questions. The senior most executive responsible for marketing or the CEO where a marketing executive did not exist was administered with a questionnaire. After retrieving the questionnaires the researcher edited, coded and entered the data in Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) for a better and efficient analysis.
SACCOs are diversifying their products and venturing into the non traditional business of granting loans to their members. The FOSA is such a product that aims at offering competitive products to cooperative members in the current competitive financial market. One way of offering competitive products is through adoption of the branding concept

▼ The main objective of this study was to determine the influence of marketing concept strategy on satisfaction of Safaricom subscribers in Nairobi, Kenya. The study adopted a descriptive cross sectional survey and used cluster sampling technique to obtain 384 respondents, out of which 346 returned properly filled questionnaires that were found usable for the survey. Two dimensions of marketing concept, that is, customer orientation and inter-functional coordination formed the independent variables for the study and were measured on a five point Likert scale with a rating ranging from strongly disagree (1) to strongly agree (5). The treatment of customer satisfaction in this study is in line with the overall or cumulative satisfaction, as well as satisfaction with other facets of the marketing concept. Study findings suggest that the adoption of marketing concept strategy significantly and positively influences customer satisfaction, thereby adducing more evidence to similar assertions by previous studies. These findings hold implication for practitioners, in that in order to increase the satisfaction of their customers, they need to increase the levels of marketing concept practice in their operations. The study also recommends that marketing oriented organizations should explore ways of increasing interdepartmental coordination in order to facilitate sharing of market intelligence and thus allow organization wide responsiveness to it. This is observed to be an impetus for marketing concept strategy to yield the desired results of increasing customer satisfaction.

▼ Mechanistic Concept Mapping (MCM) is a visual method of representing linkages between concepts in order to facilitate deeper understanding of physiological and pathophysiological principles while solving clinical problems. Case-based collaborative learning (CBCL) is a medium-size group approach that combines elements from team-based, problem-based and case-based learning. This study evaluates the effectiveness of MCM in CBCL at Harvard Medical School.
First year medical and dental students (n=170) were assigned into one of four learning societies. One society (n=43) was randomly selected for the “MCM” group; the students in the other three societies (n=127) were in the “Control” group. Outcomes for the “MCM” and the “Control” group were compared using student responses to pre-, post-course surveys and exam scores. A qualitative self-assessment focused on students’ perception on their learning was collected mid-course and examined using category construction and inductive approach to analysis.
Overall, “MCM” students’ perceptions of their reasoning skills and teamwork was significantly (p<0.05) better than their “Control” counterparts. A trend (p=0.08) was noted in “MCM” students’ higher perceptions on their tolerance of ambiguity when compared pre- and post-course responses. The course final exam scores for “MCM” and “Control” groups were not significantly different. However, students’ scores on the first quiz in the “MCM” group tended to be higher than the “Control” group (p=0.09). Qualitative data analysis indicates that students in the “MCM” group routinely overcame team learning obstacles through strategies aimed at prioritizing collaborative inductive reasoning.
MCM is an easily applicable learning tool that can promote the students’ perceptions of critical thinking skills and teamwork in collaborative learning.

▼ Forming rapid and reasonably accurate impressions of other people to determine the potential for threat is a crucial human skill that has evolved over millennia. That said, often these first impressions may be inaccurate as the processes underlying person perception are
subject to bias. Transference is one such bias which occurs when an encountered novel individual, for whatever reason, is similar enough that he or she activates the mental representation of a ‘significant other’ which is then “transferred” to that novel individual. In particular, judgments of the new person are assimilated to both evaluations (positive or negative) as well as the specific trait content of the activated representation. The current research proposed that the self-
concept as activated by self-similar stimuli can act in a similar fashion. Specifically, it was proposed that activation of the self-
concept – through encountering an individual who is similar to the self – may trigger transference of self-
concept-related feelings and emotions to a novel other. The current research tested this prediction in four experiments by comparing participant judgements of own self-
concept with trait-related judgements about novel targets, half of which were modified to resemble the perceiver. It was expected that participants would rate participant-similar stimuli as more similar to themselves than non-similar stimuli. Overall, experimental results did not support this hypothesis in that participant judgements and evaluations of self-resembling faces did not differ significantly from judgements and evaluations of stranger-similar faces in any reliable pattern. The implications of these findings are discussed in relation to previous research on first impressions, transference, and self-
concept.

Since the wars of conquest, slavery and colonization, through the first and the second world war, the wars of leadership between the great powers, wars of cultural domination, economic wars, occupation and annexation of foreign lands, looting of natural resources, seeded by globalization which aims to reformat humanity, have caused and continue to cause not only the death of millions of people , but also the destruction and disappearance of many traditions and cultures, most often in the name of ideals such as freedom, democracy and development, resulting in the loss of values of the human being and its authenticity. But philosophy has itself the power to recreate for the realization of the human project of 'being', which requires neither denial nor abandonment, if it is inspired by the history of his ideas and his fights. To ward off the threat of disappearance of being authentic Martin Heidegger had dreamed project, Mukulumanya wa N’Gate Zenda guest philosophers and political scientists to rediscover here the philosophical ideas that, since Socrates, walked up to give birth to the authenticity that, in this thesis, it defines and offers them as philosophy and political ideology favorable to 'being' and humanity from the 21st century It is so urgent to save.

▼ Echidnas have evolved
separately from other mammalian groups for more than 200
million years and incorporate a mixture of reptilian and
mammalian features. Because of these factors, they have
historically been considered ‘primitive’ animals. However
they have successfully adapted to a wide variety of
ecological niches and their neurophysiology demonstrates
a number of unusual and apparently advanced
characteristics, including a relatively large brain and
cerebral cortex and a comparatively massive frontal
cortex. These attributes make the echidna an
intrinsically compelling subject for cognitive
testing. Studies of learning in the
echidna have thus far been limited to only a handful of
experiments. These have demonstrated that echidnas are
capable of easily forming a position habit in a T-maze,
show rapid improvement across a series of successive
habitreversals, are capable of learning visual
discriminations and perform well in instrumental
discrimination tests. This study aims
to expand on these results by conducting a number of
cognitive tests of the echidna’s learning abilities,
specifically its’ ability to learn colour, shape and
conditional discriminations, as well as the presumptively
‘high-level’ relationally based tasks of same/different
and conditional same/different categorisation. This
thesis also examines the ongoing debate about the mental
processes involved in relational categorisation and how
commonly they occur in non-human animals.
In a wider context, echidnas are an ideal
candidate to explore competing theories of cognitive
evolution by examining whether a phylogenetically and
physiologically ‘primitive’ species can perform what are
generally considered to be ‘advanced’ cognitive tasks and
what role ecological factors might play in the
development of those abilities. Using an echidna as a
subject also increases the comparatively small number of
species used for cognitive testing and its’ distinct
evolutionary history means these results provide a
valuable comparison to the cognitive development of more
commonly studied
species.

concept for offshore wind turbines initially designed and developed by Fistuca B.V. This Thesis is about the initial
concept design of the connection details in the hybrid monopile. Several
concept connections are designed. The best
concept is selected and thereafter assessed on the ultimate limit state, serviceability limit state and the fatigue limit state. This is all done using the finite element program ANSYS APDL.

teritorializacijos procesas prasidėjo vakarinėje LDK dalyje XIV a.
2 pus. Tai buvo sąlygota pažangesnių Lietuvos kaimyninių valstybių
iniciatyvos delimituoti teritorijas. Pirmiausiai buvo sudarytas
Lietuvos ir Mazovijos kunigaikštystės susitarimas dėl teritorijų
limitacijos, pastaroji siekė apsaugoti savo žemes nuo potencialios
lietuvių grėsmės. Tačiau tai tik epizodas. Esminis Lietuvos
teritorializacijos proceso lūžis buvo Lietuvos ir Ordino
delimitacinių procesų plejada, kuri buvo inicijuota politiškai
aktyvios kaimyninės vokiečių valstybės. Ordinas suvokė
delimitacinių procesų prasme, o Lietuvos valdantysis sluoksnis,
regis, dar ne. Tačiau vokiečiai, siekdami delimituoti savo
valstybės teritoriją, kartu skatino Lietuvos valstybės vakarinės
dalies teritorinį tapsmą. Ši LDK dalis ypatingai teritorializacijos
proceso buvo paliest valdant Vytautui. Šio valdovo laikais buvo
nustatytos vakarinės LDK politinės sienos, kurios reiškė įtakos
sferų tarp valstybių pasidalinimą. Po Vytauto delimitacinių procesu
akcijos, XV a. 2 pus. prasidėjo rytinės LDK dalies
teritorializacijos procesas, kurį sąlygojo galingos kaimyninės
valstybės – Maskvos iškilimas. Taigi, rytinės LDK dalies
teritorializacija buvo sąlygota politinių oponentų susidūrimo,
kuris brėžė šių valstybių teritorijų sienas. Šios dalies
teritorinis tapsmas, regis, tesėsi iki XVI a. vid. XV a. 2 pus.

Summary. The object of this research is to
understand the territorialization process in the 14 - 16 centuries
Grand Duches of Lithuania (GDL) and to find out the connect of the
state territory and ruling class. First of all, bared on
historiography we will try to find out the common formation process
of the territorial state in Middle age. This will help to choose
other criterions. In the second chapter GDL territorialization
process is analized widely. The first stage in this process was
determined by neighbour countries, such as Mazovia and the Teutonic
Order. The Order, being aktiv territorial state, stimulated the
interest of borders delimitation with GDL. The biggerst act of
delimitation take part at the time of Great duke Vytautas. At the
time of the latter rule the first Border between GDL and Order
appears. In the third decade of the 15th century was passed to
borde renovation process. The end of the process wan in 16 century.
But, the border renovation process at the 16th century very
intensive. It depend on inside colonization control. The collision
of both borderland dvellers modificated state border. In 1545 the
border between GDL and Prussiae was estabilished and the colomn
with state coat of arm and inscription was made. It shows the
concepsio of the state territory border. In the 16th century state
line border appears. It’s traits: populated borderland; detailed
border marking; borders have to correspond to all social classes
land limits; borders should have... [to full

▼ The Crack in The Wall is a composition constructed to serve as a “concept” work and a response to the recent increase of violent rhetoric in the political and social climate of the United States of America. In an effort to respond to these words that have validated, encouraged, and often incited violence, the work utilizes an electronic element of previously recorded speeches from public figures, readings of news headlines detailing the tragic, violent deaths of citizens, and scriptures from the Bible that encourage us towards love. As the music progresses, listeners are confronted with the juxtaposition of the violence and hatred that have stemmed from the harmful rhetoric that has become common for our society against the call for peace and love found in the scriptures of Christianity. The hopeful goal is to move the listeners towards a place of peace and unity with each other.
