1. O'Neill, Tara Anne. Perspectives of Parents of Children with Cerebral Palsy on the Supports, Challenges, and Realities of Integrating AAC into Everyday Life.

Degree: 2018, Penn State University

Subjects/Keywords: In order to ensure long-term adoption and use of augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) technologies; they must be designed to support children to participate within everyday activities and routines that are prioritized by families. Nine parents of children with cerebral palsy who used AAC technologies participated in semi-structured interviews to provide their perspectives of how AAC technologies were integrated into the functional contexts of everyday life. Five major themes emerged from the discussions: (a) integrating AAC into life; (b) AAC technologies; (c) child needs and skills; (d) parent responsibilities and priorities; and (e) AAC process and decision-making. Children were able to use AAC technologies within a variety of everyday contexts with various partners; however; challenges included access to AAC within physical and outdoor activities and partners who lacked knowledge regarding operational competencies and effective interaction strategies. In order to integrate AAC technologies into life; parents prioritized technology features including ease of programming; improved physical design (e.g.; lighter; wearable; easy to mount; durable); features to enhance efficiency and ease of access (e.g.; brain-computer interface; sentence prediction); and availably of multiple functions and features (e.g.; facial recognition software; augmented reality; projection capabilities; capability to control wheelchair). AAC manufacturers and mainstream technology developers should work to ensure that technologies are responsive to the supports; limitations; and ideal features identified by parents. Future research should seek input from a larger group of stakeholders and use longitudinal methods to examine perceptions of AAC technologies over time. Keywords: technology design; augmentative and alternative communication; parents; cerebral palsy; service delivery; technology design; family

2. Teng, Sin Yong. Intelligent Energy-Savings and Process Improvement Strategies in Energy-Intensive Industries: Intelligent Energy-Savings and Process Improvement Strategies in Energy-Intensive Industries.

Degree: 2020, Brno University of Technology

Zlepšení průmyslových procesů, Model založený na datech, Optimalizace procesu, Strojové učení, Průmyslové systémy, Energeticky náročná průmyslová odvětví, Umělá inteligence. Advisors/Committee Members: Máša, Vítězslav (advisor), Professor, Ponnambalam Sivalinga Govindarajan, (referee), Pavlas, Martin (referee).

Subjects/Keywords: As core processing technologies in energy-intensive industries improve leaps and bounds; existing facilities gradually fall behind in terms of efficiency and productivity. Ultimately; harsh market competition and environmental legislation will force these traditional facilities to stop operations and decommission. Process improvement and retrofit projects are critical in maintaining the operational performance of these traditional facilities. Current approaches for process improvement are mainly Process Integration; Process Optimization and Process Intensification. From a high-level context; analysis from these fields consists of mathematical optimization; accumulated experience; and operational heuristics. These approaches serve good as a basis for process improvement. However; their performance can be further improved with up-to-date computational intelligence. Therefore; the purpose of this work is to apply advanced artificial intelligence and machine learning techniques into process improvement projects for energy-intensive industrial systems. The approach taken by this work is a multi-directional approach which tackles this problem from simulation to industrial systems with the following contributions: (i) Application of machine learning technique; which includes one-shot learning and neuro-evolution for data-driven single unit modelling and optimization. (ii) Application of dimension reduction (e.g. principle component analysis; deep autoencoder) for multiple-unit multiple-objective process optimization. (iii) Proposition of novel bottleneck tree analysis (BOTA) tool for the purpose of process capacity debottlenecking. An extended BOTA was also proposed to incorporate multi-dimensional problems via data-driven approach. (iv) Demonstrated effectiveness of Monte-Carlo simulations; neural network and decision trees for decision-making when integrating new process technology in existing processes. (v) Benchmarked Hierarchical Temporal Memory (HTM) and a dual-mode optimization with multiple predictive tools for real-time operational management. (vi) Implemented artificial neural networks in the conventional process graph (P-graph) framework. (vii) Highlight the future of AI and process engineering in biosystems via a commercial-based multi-omics paradigm.; Industrial Process Improvement; Data-driven Modelling; Process Optimization; Machine Learning; Industrial Systems; Energy-Intensive Industries; Artificial Intelligence

11. Huehner, Monica Rudawiro. UPORABA ANALITIČNEGA HIERARHIČNEGA PROCESA ZA OCENJEVANJE KMETIJSKO-OKOLJSKIH UKREPOV PROGRAMA ZA RAZVOJ PODEŽELJA.

Degree: 2015, Univerza v Mariboru

V številnih primerih in rezultatih, ki smo jih pridobili v pričujoči doktorski disertaciji, smo eno prioritetno učinkovitost dodelili številnim kmetijsko-okoljskim ukrepom za doseganje osrednjega cilja,… (more)

Rezultati so pokazali; da ekološka in integrirana kmetijska pridelava zagotavljata največji prispevek pri vzpostavljanju sonaravnega kmetijstva.; The objective of this dissertation was to assess the agri-environmental measures with the help of the Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) and its supporting software Expert Choice; showing at the same time how this most used multicriteria decision method (MCDM) can also be used for agricultural problems. For this dissertation; three criteria and their attributes were identified and arranged hierarchically. With the help of questionnaires; experts made pairwise comparisons of the elements and the judgement on the contribution of the measures towards achieving the sub-goals. The intention of the assessment of agri-environmental measures was to get their precise ranking; which could be a basis for further discussions about which of the AEM are considered most effective and feasible. The results show that organic and integrated agricultural production make the greatest contribution to establishing sustainable agriculture and secure income for the farmers.
