Este estudo é dedicado à análise da redução da jornada de trabalho no Brasil. O trabalho inicia-se por uma narrativa histórica da evolução da jornada de trabalho no mundo e no Brasil. Em seguida, apresenta-se a divergência doutrinária sobre os termos: duração do trabalho, jornada de trabalho e horário de trabalho. São, então, observadas as jornadas especiais de certas categorias profissionais que, por força de circunstâncias particulares da profissão, assumem jornadas de trabalho diferenciadas. Posteriormente, estuda-se a Organização Internacional do Trabalho, suas convenções quanto a jornada de trabalho, bem como a Recomendação 116, sobre a possibilidade da redução progressiva da jornada de trabalho. Por fim, aborda-se a experiência francesa, que diz respeito à redução da jornada de trabalho para 35 horas. Chega-se à conclusão da dissertação, com os argumentos finais e o posicionamento de que a redução da jornada de trabalho, ainda que seja medida essencial para proteção da saúde do trabalhador, não gera emprego e não reduz o desemprego, porém suscita a intensificação do trabalho.

This study is dedicated to the analysis of the working hours reduction in Brazil. The dissertation begins with a historical narrative of the evolution of the working hours in the world and Brazil; with an emphasis on the doctrinal disagreement over the terms: hours of work, working hours and work schedule. Then, it analyzes the working hours for certain professional categories under particular circumstances. Moreover, it studies the International Labour Organization; the conventions and Recommendation 116 about the possibility of progressive working hours reduction. Subsequently, it analyzes the French experience highlighting on the working hours reduction to 35 hours. The dissertation is concluded with the exposition of the final arguments and the position that the working hours reduction does not reduce unemployment and does not increase employment, but cause work intensification. However, it is an essential measure to protect the worker health.

Denna studies syfte är att identifiera arbetsgivares attityder kring arbetstidsförkortning, samt finna svar på om de ser det som ett realistiskt alternativ inför framtiden. För att lyckas uppnå vårt syfte har vi utgått från en kvalitativ metod med ett induktivt synsätt. Vi har intervjuat fem representanter från olika företag för att undersöka hur de ser på arbetstidsförkortning som fenomen. Resultatet visar att arbetsgivare både ser för- och nackdelar med arbetstidsförkortning. De största hindren mot att införa arbetstidsförkortning som våra informanter ser är företagens okunskap, känsla av osäkerhet samt risken för ekonomiska förluster. Fördelarna som de ser är framförallt att arbetstidsförkortning kan öka balansen mellan arbete och fritid, gynna jämställdheten i samhället samt att det är ett sätt att orka arbeta högre upp i åldrarna när pensionsåldern höjs. Resultatet visar även att arbetsgivare ser ännu mer flexibilitet i framtiden och att de idag inte ser tillräckligt stort behov av kortare arbetsdagar för att det ska bli en prioriterad fråga för deras företag. Om sjuktalen däremot ökar kan de se arbetstidsförkortning som ett alternativ även i deras organisationer.

The purpose of this study is to identify the employers' attitudes concerning working time reduction, and find answers to whether they see it as a realistic alternative for the future. In order to succeed in achieving our goal, we have used a qualitative method with an inductive approach. We have interviewed five representatives from different companies in order to investigate what they think about work time reduction as a phenomenon. The result shows that employers see both advantages and disadvantages of working hours reduction. The biggest obstacles to the implement of working hours reduction that our informants see are the companies' lack of knowledge, a sense of uncertainty and the risk of financial losses. The advantages that they see are especially that working hours reduction can increase the balance between work and leisure, benefit gender equality in society and that it is a way for employees to be able to work all the way to retirement, even when the retirement age increases. The result also shows that employers see even more flexibility in the future and that they do not currently see sufficient need for shorter working days in order for it to be a priority issue for their company. On the other hand, if the sickness rate increases, they can see reduction of working hours as an alternative even in their organizations.

Bakgrund: I dagens samhälle så skrivs det mycket om sex timmars arbetsdag i media. Att arbeta sex timmar men få betalt för åtta timmarsarbetsdag är något som väckt mångas intresse. År 1973 reglerades arbetstiden till 40 timmar per arbetsvecka, sedan dess har ingen ytterligare lagstadgad förändring skett. Det känns därför relevant att studera hur sex timmars arbetsdag påverkar individens psykiska och fysiska hälsa för att personalen och arbetsgivare ska få förståelse för vilka positiva samt negativa aspekter som det eventuellt kan medföra. Syfte: Syfte med denna undersökning är att kartlägga hur personalens självupplevda hälsa påverkas genom införandet av sex timmars arbetsdag, ur ett personalperspektiv. Metod: För denna uppsats har triangulering använts som metod. Där kvantitativa data har samlats in genom en attitydundersökning som utförts genom en enkätundersökning. Kvalitativa data har samlats in som komplement till denna enkätundersökning genom 13 stycken telefonintervjuer. Material har därutöver insamlats genom litteratur och vetenskapliga artiklar. Slutsats: Studien påvisar att sex timmars arbetsdag tenderar att ge personal många positiva vinster i form av förbättrad livskvalitet genom att respondenternas egendefinierande hälsa blivit bättre efter sex timmars arbetsdag infördes. För denna studie dras slutsatsen att majoriteten av respondenterna i denna undersökningen har en positiv upplevelse gentemot sex timmars arbetsdag.

Background: In today's society, media is writing a lot about reduction of hours of work. Working for six hours but getting paid for eight hours workday is something that aroused many people's interest. In 1973, working hours were regulated to 40 hours per working week, since then no further statutory change has taken place. It therefore feels relevant to investigate how reduction of hours of work affects the mental and physical health of the individual in order for the staff and employers to understand the positive and negative aspects that it may lead to. Purpose: The purpose of this study is to survey the staff's impact of a reduction of hours of work, six hours working day, from workers perspective. Method: For this essay triangulation has been used as a method. Where quantitative data has been collected through an attitudes survey conducted through a survey. Qualitative data has been collected in addition to this survey through 13 telephone interviews. Other material has been collected through literature and scientific articles. Conclusion: The study shows that six hours workday tends to give the staff many positive gains in terms of improved quality of life by improving the respondents' health after six hours of working day. For this study, it is concluded that most respondents in this survey have a positive experience over six hours of working day.
