A utilização de cultivares mais responsivas na absorção e utilização de nutrientes, juntamente com práticas culturais adequadas e a utilização de insumos mais eficientes são estratégias para reduzir custos e maximizar a produção e a qualidade do trigo produzido no Brasil. O objetivo do trabalho foi avaliar o efeito de doses de adubação nitrogenada em cobertura, provenientes de diferentes formas de uréia, no desempenho agronômico e na qualidade industrial de genótipos de trigo em sistema de semeadura direta após a cultura da soja. Foram avaliados três genótipos de trigo (cultivares BRS 208 e BRS Pardela e a linhagem IWT 04008), em dois locais (Londrina e Ponta Grossa - PR) totalizando seis experimentos. Foram avaliadas três formas de ureia em cobertura (ureia convencional, ureia com inibidor de urease e uréia protegida) com quatro doses de N (0, 40, 80 e 120 kg ha-1) aplicadas no perfilhamento (20 dias após a emergência). Foi utilizado o delineamento experimental de blocos casualizados em esquema fatorial 3 x 4 (três formas de ureia x quatro doses), com quatro repetições. Foram avaliados: estande de plantas, massa e teor de N da folha bandeira, ciclo até o espigamento e até a maturação, alturas e acamamento de plantas, componentes do rendimento e produtividade. Foi avaliada a qualidade industrial das cultivares (BRS 208 e BRS Pardela) em Ponta Grossa-PR. As cultivares BRS 208 e BRS Pardela são mais produtivas que a linhagem IWT 04008. O incremento das doses de N influencia positivamente a duração do ciclo, a massa seca da folha bandeira, o número de espigas m-2 e o teor de nitrogênio do grão, porém, aumenta o acamamento de plantas com redução na massa de mil grãos, no rendimento e no peso do hectolitro em Londrina-PR. O incremento das doses de N aplicadas em cobertura influencia positivamente a massa seca da folha bandeira, o número de espigas m-2 e o rendimento de grãos e, negativamente sobre o peso do hectolitro do trigo em Ponta Grossa-PR. A forma de ureia aplicada em cobertura não interfere nas características agronômicas independente do genótipo e do local. A cultivar BRS Pardela apresenta maior peso do hectolitro, teor de glúten, tenacidade e índice de elasticidade, e menor extensibilidade, número de queda e índice de dureza que a cultivar BRS 208. O incremento das doses de N aplicadas em cobertura aumentou a cor branca e vermelha da farinha e reduziu a cor amarela, e para a BRS 208 aumentou linearmente a porcentagem de proteína e reduziu o peso do hectolitro. As formas de ureia aplicadas em cobertura não interferem nas características industriais das cultivares BRS 208, BRS Pardela.

▼ The dissertation presents the findings of a study undertaken to assess the economics of wheat production in Bangladesh. The objectives are to identify the problems associated with wheat farms and to find the prospects, efficiencies, productivity, profitability and sustainability of wheat production by farm size. As a basis for this study, farm level data were collected through questionnaire of 150 farms distributed throughout the Khulna Division. In Bangladesh, there is much area of land under non-irrigated, which is not cultivated. Therefore, wheat can easily be produced in this area through irrigation. Crop choice decisions in Bangladesh are often motivated by food security considerations. It was found that many rural households produce wheat in order to avoid seasonal food shortages that mean they grow wheat to ensure that food is available during the hungry season prior to the rice harvest. Thus another reason for encouraging wheat production is the use of wheat for household food security by poor families who cannot afford to purchase food. Wheat, however, has an advantage in areas with a longer duration of winter, light soils, and lower requirement of irrigation water than boro rice. Agricultural production system dominated by a single crop (i.e. rice) is neither agronomic nor acceptable from the economic point of view. However, considering the increasing demand for foodgrain and to ensuring food security, production of wheat will continue to get priority in the foodgrain production programs. To increase wheat production, supportive programs will be taken to raise per ha yield using modern technology and improved cultural practices along with the increased use of high yielding varieties. In addition, there is a need to improve the process that improved wheat transfers production technologies to farmers. The large yield gap for wheat suggests that there is still considerable room for raising yields at the farm level using currently available technologies. Although the low yields observed in farmers’ field may be attributed to a lack of incentive to invest in inputs due to depressed wheat prices and to resource constraints experienced by those who grow wheat, crop management practices for wheat are clearly deficient in many areas. From the beginning of the independence the country faced food deficit and deficit continued till today. The total demand for foodgrain has increased mainly due to increasing the population of Bangladesh. While the total domestic foodgrain production has also increased from 10.02 million mt in 1972 to 27.57 million mt in 2002 with growth rate of 2.81% during the period. If this population growth rate is continued then the future possible expected population of Bangladesh will be 151.83 million in 2010. To meet the increasing population demand for food, the domestic expected foodgrain supply will also be increased 21.50 million mt in 2003 to 24.40 million mt in 2010 with existing level, which is 3.13% lower than expected demand.
