The tin sensitization process has been used in electroless plating since 1940s Brenner and Riddell developed the electroless plating for surface metallization method. It was found to be an interesting topic to study tin sensitization for chemically controlling metal deposition on different substrates, because the tin sensitization process had critical effects on the electroless plated metal thin films. Nowadays electroless plating metal deposition is still an important method for depositing metals. It has a few advantages over the vapor deposition and electrodeposition method, such as work in an ambient condition, on nonconductive substrates, and without extra power input. Applying electroless plating our lab has successfully fabricated ordered array of gold nanostructures, for example Dr. Blake fabricated gold nano rings by top-down electron-beam lithography, and Dr. Ahn fabricated hexagonal gold nano particles by bottom-up silica sphere self-assembly. Dr. Jang studied the silver catalytic particle formation and gold thin film dynamically formation in detail. However, the tin sensitization process has not be studied yet. Therefore, in this master's thesis the tin sensitization for electroless plating was researched. In Chapter I an introduction was given for the tin sensitization process and the electroless plating method. In Chapter II the tin sensitization process for elctroless plating was reviewed. In Chapter III a rapid, straightforward, spectrophotometric method, based on the redox reaction of tin(II) with a mixture of N-bromosuccinimide (NBS) and 3,3',5,5'-tetramethylbenzidine dihydrochloride (TMB-d) was developed for determining low concentrations of tin(II). In Chapter IV the spectrophotometric method developed in Chapter II was developed for quantitative measurement of stannous (tin(II)) concentrations on ceramic substrates. Effects of reagent concentration, exposure time, substrate physicochemistry, and post-exposure conditions on surface tin(II) content were evaluated. Aqueous immersion post-reaction doubled tin(II) surface concentration compared to drying in nitrogen before a two-minute air exposure. In Chapter V the 2D hexagonal arrays of gold nano rings were fabricated by coupling EBL and electroless plating. The future work of applying the results in this thesis was proposed in Chapter VI. Two directions were suggested, uniform metal deposition that could be comparable to vacuum deposition methods and fabricating ordered array of metal nanostructures. Projekt vypracovaný v rámci inženýrského studia oboru M-STG Strojírenská technologie předkládá analytické hodnocení řezné plochy plechu u dvou nejpoužívanějších moderních technologií dělení, kterými jsou dělení laserovým paprskem a přesné vysekávání. Hodnocení této plochy bylo především zaměřeno na stupeň vtažní povrchové zinkové vrstvy plechu do oblasti řezu. Za pomoci moderních metod elektronové mikroskopie pak byly tyto hodnoty vtažení pro jednotlivé technologie určeny. Samotné analýze však předcházela literární studie jednotlivých částí do tohoto experimentu vstupujících.; The project, developed under the terms of engineering studies of the M-STG Manufacturing Technology branch, presents the analytical assessment of the cutting surface of the metal sheet by two most commonly used modern technologies of cutting, which is the laser beam division and the exact cutting. The evaluation of this area was mainly focused on the level of the penetration of the zinc surface layer in the area of the given cutting. With the help of modern methods of electron microscopy, these values of penetration were then estabilished for each technology. The analysis itself was preceded by literary studies of all individual parts participating in this experiment. Advisors/Committee Members: Mrňa, Libor (advisor).

The purpose of this study was to evaluate the fracture resistance of three post and core systems in endodontically treated teeth by loading to failure, and to measure marginal gaps before and after cyclic loading. Sixty extracted canines were assigned to three groups. The groups tested were: 1) Single cast post and core (Group CP). 2) Prefabricated metal post and composite resin core (Group MR). 3) Glass fiber post and composite resin core (Group FR). All teeth were obturated and prepared to receive a post and core with a coping. Thirty teeth (10 from each group) were loaded to failure, and the other 30 teeth were fatigue-loaded. The marginal gaps on the facial and lingual surface of the fatigue-loaded group were measured before and after cyclic loading. There were two hypotheses for this study. The first was that the FR group would have less marginal gap opening on the lingual surface than the other groups. The second was that the CP group would have a higher load at failure than the other groups. Group CP was found to have a significantly smaller pre-loading marginal gap than group FR (p = 0.0265) and group MR (p = 0.0273), while groups FR and MR did not have a significantly different pre-loading marginal gaps (p = 0.86). Group FR had significantly less change in marginal gap than group MR (p = 0.0013). Groups CP and MR did not have significantly different changes in marginal gap (p = 0.09). Groups CP and FR did not have significantly different changes in marginal gap (p = 0.11). The three post types did not have significantly different maximum loads to failure (p= 0.49), moments of inertia at cervical area (p = 0.75), or moments of inertia at fracture site (p=0.12). There was no significant difference between groups CP, FR, and MR in the load-to-failure test. Group CP demonstrated the highest load-to-failure values; however, the highest load-to-failure mean was for group MR. All fractures observed in this study were catastrophic. Group FR demonstrated better stress distribution and caused no early fractures in the fatigue-loading group. All groups demonstrated significant marginal gap changes on the lingual surface after fatigue loading; however, group FR demonstrated <45 μm marginal gap opening. In group FR, the reduced marginal gap opening was attributed to the use of Panavia 21 with the proper surface treatments to bond to the tooth structure, the resin composite, and the metal coping.
