Degree: 2018, Universidade Estadual de Campinas

Abstract: The research focuses on the identification, description, interpretation and discussion of Subjective Theories-ST. Such approach allows the study to consider the implicit personal theories, inferred by the investigator, as well as those directly stated by the subjects. ST are cognitions about phenomena of oneself and of the world, which have a hypothetical, partly explicit, argumentative structure that guide behavior. They are also known as beliefs, conceptions, representations or constructs. Studies based on this theory are oriented to understand the processes of reflection of the subjects, therefore it follows the epistemology and qualitative method, with interpretative paradigm. The objective is to understand what is Physical Education (PE) and its importance in the school context, from the perspective of teachers. Also, analyze the self-assigned role of the teacher and the relevance of their work. Through methodological triangulation, we analyze consistencies and inconsistencies between what the subjects declare, the inferred implicitly of the speeches and the relation between words and actions. Finally, it is analyzed if the teacher is aware of which epistemological assumptions guide their practice. The sample study in this thesis are 4 teachers from public establishments in a city in the southern state of Minas Gerais. The research consists of two phases: The initial phase has semi-structured interviews, which are analyzed with orientation in the Grounded Theory, with three steps, Open Coding: in which the interview is coded and concepts are assigned to the lines of thought. At this stage the ST are identified, reconstructed, classified and analyzed according to depth levels; emotional meaning; what type of action they orient and the proximity of the subject to the theorized object. Axial Coding: in which the concepts generated are grouped into categories. And the Selective Codification: which culminates the analysis, generating theories and hypotheses, formulated from the data collected and not from pre-existing theoretical frameworks. The second phase discusses the observing the practice of class, in order to verify the consistencies and inconsistencies between speeches and actions practiced in class. Among the results, it was possible to identify the central and secondary ST in relation to PE, presenting conceptions closed to Pedagogy of Sports (T#1), Critical Pedagogy (T#2), Physical Activity and Health (T#3) and Motricity (T#4). These conceptions have been explicitly identified. TS implicitly was associated with conceptions of EF from childhood memories and first contacts with this discipline. The observations leave evidence that both STs guide the practice, however it is preferred to practice with known and safe outcomes. It is observed that teachers attach greater importance to their role in school, perceiving themselves devalued before their peers and society, implying conflicting feelings of professional fulfillment / frustration. Partial epistemological awareness is observed, as they opt for… Advisors/Committee Members: UNIVERSIDADE ESTADUAL DE CAMPINAS (CRUESP), Prodocimo, Elaine, 1967- (advisor), Universidade Estadual de Campinas.
