▼ Field trips are well recognized by researchers as an educational approach with the potential to complement and enhance classroom science teaching by exposing students to unique activities, resources, and content in informal settings. The following investigation addresses teachers' field trip practices in three related manuscripts: (1) A study examining the details of teachers' pedagogical strategies intended to facilitate connections between students' experiences and the school curricula while visiting an aquarium; (2) A study documenting and describing sources of knowledge that teachers draw from when leading field trips to an aquarium; (3) A position paper that reviews and summarizes research on effective pedagogical strategies for field trips. Together these three pieces address key questions regarding teachers' practices on field trips: (1) What strategies are teachers employing (and not employing) during self-guided field trips to facilitate learning tied to the class curriculum? (2) What sources of knowledge do teachers utilize when leading field trips? (3) How can teachers be better prepared to lead trips that promote learning? The Oregon Coast Aquarium served as the field trip site for teachers included in this study. The setting suited these questions because the aquarium serves tens of thousands of students on field trips each year but provides no targeted programming for these students as they explore the exhibits. In other words, the teachers who lead field trips assume much of the responsibility for facilitating students' experience. In order to describe and characterize teachers' strategies to link students' experiences to the curriculum, a number of teachers (26) were observed as they led their students' visit to the public spaces of the aquarium. Artifacts, such as worksheets, used during the visit were collected for analysis as well. Subsequently, all teachers were surveyed regarding their use of the field trip and their sources of knowledge for their practices. A subset of eight teachers were interviewed using guided conversations in order to shed further light on their use of the aquarium field trip and their pedagogical preparation. Data from all sources were organized by repeating ideas relevant to the questions of interest. The resulting evidence was interpreted to support distinct categories of teacher strategies and experience and related claims about these strategies and experiences. Thus, findings reveal that teachers attempt to link the curriculum to the activities, resources, and content encountered on the trip using a variety of connections. However, these curriculum connections are characterized as products of opportunistic situations and reveal limited depth. Evidence further indicates that teachers treat the aquarium visit as a background experience for their students rather than as an opportunity to introduce new concepts or do an activity that is integrated into the curriculum. ▼ The rule against the 'discrimination' of fields of technology in TRIPS Article 27.1 has the potential to contradict the very technology-specific nature of patent law and to disallow the WTO membership from specifically addressing public interest and right-holder related concerns in a given field of technology. However, in Canada- Patent Protection of Pharmaceuticals (DS114), the only report by a WTO tribunal to have substantively dealt with this obligation to date, the Panel indicated that this rule is not absolute by formulating the concept of 'discrimination' in Article 27.1 as the 'unjustified imposition of differentially disadvantageous treatment'. Nevertheless, this thesis argues that the Panel left some vital elements of its formulation open-ended, thereby making it difficult for a member to comprehend the circumstances in which the 'differential treatment' of field of technology constitutes 'discrimination'. To bring clarity to this ambiguity, this thesis interprets this obligation afresh and identifies some fundamental rationales that should have, and in fact appear to have influenced the Panel in its formulation. To this end, this thesis draws some vital influences from the context relating to WTO's substantive non-discrimination norms (National Treatment and Most-Favoured Nation Treatment) under its covered agreements that deal with goods and services and explores the type and extent of autonomy that has been preserved within TRIPS's Objectives and Principles. Whilst this thesis argues that an ambiguous obligation such the prohibition of 'discrimination' of fields of technology found in TRIPS Article 27.1 should be interpreted in a manner that seeks a balance between the obligation and the autonomy of the WTO membership, it also sheds light on the future of TRIPS's own National Treatment and Most-Favoured Nation treatment obligations for which WTO tribunals have not yet recognized the applicability of any general exceptions or justificatory concepts.

Darbo tema: Poilsinis ir pažintinis turizmas (kelionės) moksleivių laisvalaikio kontekste: sociologinė analizė (Trakų miesto mokyklų atvejis). Darbo aktualumas ir problema Mes gyvename globaliame, mobiliame ir nuolat kintančiame pasaulyje. Labiausiai priimtina ir populiariausia žmonių mobilumo forma šiandien yra kelionės. Kelionė – tai judėjimas laiku ir erdve. Kelionėje bene svarbiausi yra susitikimai su kitu žmogumi, kita kultūra, kitokiu patyrimu. Kelionėse plėtojasi tokios asmenybės savybės kaip žingeidumas, savarankiškumas, noras įgyti aukštesnį išsilavinimą, pasiekti aukštesnį kultūros lygmenį. Jaunimo dalyvavimas kelionėse leidžia jiems susidaryti objektyvesnį pasaulio vaizdą, geriau suvokti praeitį ir dabartį, palyginti įvairių kraštų kraštovaizdį, žmonių gyvenseną, kalbą, kultūrą. Akademinis jaunimas vis dažniau „atsiliepia į vietovių erdvių signalus, kurie kviečia įsitraukti į socialumo plėtrą, socialinių santykių viešose vietose kūrimą“. Pasirinkome turizmo temą, nes jaunimo poilsinės ir pažintinės kelionės Lietuvoje sociologiniu požiūriu yra beveik nenagrinėtos. Apskritai galima teigti, kad sociologijos darbų, nagrinėjančių keliautojų tapatumą, kelionių priežastis ir motyvus, Lietuvoje trūksta, tad šis darbas – tai bandymas šį poreikį patenkinti. Šio darbo tikslas – ištirti, kokią vietą poilsinis ir pažintinis turizmas užima moksleivių laisvalaikio struktūroje Darbo uždaviniai: 1. Work relevance and the problem We are living in a global, mobile and constantly changing world. The most acceptable and popular people form of mobility today are traveling. Travel – it is a movement of time and space. In the journey the most import thing are meeting with another person, knowing another culture, a different experience. Travel develops in the personality characteristics as curiosity, independence, the desire to acquire higher education, to reach a higher culture level. Youth participation in the trips allow them to obtain a more objective picture of the world, to understand better about the past and present, to compare a different edges of landscape, people lifestyle, language and culture. Academic Youth increasingly „responding to the areas of spacial signals are invited to become involved in the development of sociality, social relations, the creation of public spaces.” We have choosen tourism, because youth resort and sigthseeing tours in Lithuania from sociological point of view are not examinated. All over, we can suggest, that the sociology work dealing the identity of travelers, causes and reasons for travel in Lithuania is missing, so this work – an attempt to meet this need. Frankliniella occidentalis tem sido relatada como uma das principais pragas associadas à cultura do morangueiro. Neste trabalho, foram avaliados aspectos do ciclo biológico de F. occidentalis, em laboratório (25 ± 1 ºC, 70 ± 10% UR, fotofase 12 horas), em flores e folíolos de morangueiro, cultivar Aromas. Determinou-se também, as exigências térmicas das fases de ovo, larva e pupa, mantidas em folíolos de morangueiro, nas temperaturas de 16, 19, 22, 25, 28 e 31 ºC (70±10% UR; fotofase 12 horas). Os danos provocados por adultos de F. occidentalis foram caracterizados em flores, frutos verdes e maduros e durante todo período de maturação. A duração média, em dias, do período embrionário foi significativamente distinta entre os insetos mantidos em flores (3,7 ± 0,03) e folíolos (4,4 ± 0,09). O primeiro instar larval teve duração significativamente menor em flores (1,6 ± 0,07 dias) do que nos folíolos (2,0 ± 0,06 dias). Larvas de segundo instar, pré-pupas e pupas não diferiram quanto à duração e viabilidade entre os dois órgãos vegetais avaliados. O ciclo biológico (ovo-adulto) não diferiu significativamente entre os insetos mantidos em flores (12,1 ± 0,33 dias) e folíolos (13,3 ± 0,57 dias), o mesmo ocorreu em relação à longevidade entre machos e fêmeas. A fecundidade média total dos insetos mantidos em flores (70,04 ± 9,18 ovos/fêmea) foi significativamente maior do que os que permaneceram em folíolos (8,52 ± 1,13 ovos/fêmea). Com base na tabela de vida de fertilidade, a performance dos indivíduos de F. occidentalis que se desenvolveram em flores foi melhor. A temperatura base e a constante térmica para o ciclo total (ovo-adulto) foi 9,88 ºC e 211,86 graus-dia, respectivamente. Com base nas exigências térmicas de F. occidentalis, foi estimado para os municípios de Vacaria, Caxias do Sul, Pelotas, Porto Alegre e Taquari respectivamente, 10,7, 12,6, 13,6, 16,5 e 20,3 gerações/ano. Em relação à caracterização de danos, os resultados sugerem que as deformações de frutos não estão associadas à presença de F. occidentalis e que, a alimentação destes causa bronzeamentos na superfície de frutos verdes e maduros.

Frankliniella occidentalis has been reported as one of the major pests associated to the strawberry crops. In this work, aspects of the biological cycle of F. occidentalis had been evaluated in laboratory (25 ± 1 ºC, 70 ± 10% RH photo phase 12 h), in flowers and folioles of strawberry plants, ‘Aromas’ cultivar. Also, the thermal requirements of the egg, larva and pupal phases kept in strawberry folioles at 16, 19, 22, 25, 28 and 31 ºC (70±10% RH; 12 hours photo phase) were established. The damages inflicted by F. occidentalis adults in flowers, in unripe and ripe fruits and during all the ripening period were characterized. The average time, in days, of the embryonic period were significantly different for the insects kept in flowers (3.7 ± 0.03) and folioles (4.4 ± 0.09). ▼ The growing distance of consumers from the source of their food increases the necessity of developing agricultural literacy. A farm is an effective venue for the development of agricultural literacy; educational farms can provide authentic learning experiences and help people make connections to the land, to the source of their food, to one another, and between classroom learning and real life. Field trips provide a way to introduce young people from nonagricultural backgrounds to farms and offer a variety of cognitive, social, and affective benefits. Grounded in experiential learning, informal education, and place-based education, and supported by an understanding of learning in museums and on field trips, this study investigated the benefits of educational farm field trips as perceived by farm educators, classroom teachers, and students. To explore goals and expectations surrounding school field trips to educational farms, interviews were conducted at each of three educational farms with the farm-based educator and with classroom teachers visiting the farms with their classes. Students participating in field trips to the farms responded to questions about their experience and learning. Inductive analysis of the data identified emergent themes and patterns; goals of each educator were identified and considered in relation to one another. Findings indicate that the farm experience, interconnectivity, local food, agricultural literacy, and curriculum connections are important factors in field trips to educational farms. Classroom teachers and farm educators tended to have similar goals for the field trips, but some differences were found. Students reported both cognitive and affective learning from their field trips. Logistical elements of field trips and approaches to overcoming barriers are considered. The objective of this study is the contract of bioprospecting for access to genetic resources existing in Brazil, as a valid instrument to be coupled the existing interests in the international regimes of intellectual property embodied by TRIPS and the CBD in, which concern the allocation of benefits, technology transfer and the rights of traditional communities. Are combined the studies produced on public governance and private governance, to justify the adoption of an understanding that link them, notably by means of contracts for bioprospecting, therefore, each alone, did not appear sufficient to regulate access to genetic resources. Finally, an analysis is made of Brazilian legislation relevant to the subject, especially when it comes to contracts, and tissues are some comments about the Projeto de Lei that would replace the Medida Provisória No. 2.168-16/2001

O objetivo do presente trabalho é estudar o contrato de bioprospecção para o acesso aos recursos genéticos existentes no Brasil, como um instrumento válido para que possam ser conjugados os interesses existentes nos regimes internacionais de propriedade intelectual, materializado pelo acordo TRIPS e, os constantes da CDB, que concernem à repartição de benefícios, a transferência de tecnologia e o respeito aos direitos das comunidades tradicionais. São conjugados os estudos produzidos acerca da governança pública e a governança privada, para se justificar a adoção de um entendimento que interligue ambos, notadamente, por meio dos contratos de bioprospecção, pois, cada um, isoladamente, não se apresentou suficiente para regular o acesso aos recursos genéticos. Ao final, é feita uma análise da legislação brasileira pertinente ao tema, notadamente no que concerne aos contratos, bem como, são tecidos alguns comentários acerca do Projeto de Lei que pretende substituir a Medida Provisória n. 2.168-16/2001

▼ This study investigated former students' historical imaginations and recollections emanating from a visit to an historic site as an extension of the curriculum in social studies in grade five a decade ago. Historical imagination was defined as placing children within past "actions" or experiences of history through heritage to discern for themselves the thoughts and experiences of people of the past. The following question guided this study: What was the nature of historical imagination constructed from participants' recollections through "action" and "artifact within action" based on an extended field trip to an historic site in the recent past? "Action" was defined as vigorous activity of children involved in learning through experience, such as panning for gold. "Artifact within action" referred to objects illustrative of human workmanship, such as those found in historic sites. Ten years ago, ten and eleven year old students participated in historic site ‘interpretation’ programs including a court trial, school house activities, gold panning, graveyard exploration, household chores and carpentry tasks. They explored the reconstructed townsite of Barkerville where these activities occurred. The investigation of historical imagination was not intended as an evaluation of the educational programs offered at Barkerville, nor was it intended to generalize these findings to other historical sites. The author involved young adults to construct memories of shared events from their experiences of a field trip to Barkerville. In spite of efforts to determine efficacy of education through field trips, little has been written about the stimulation of historical imagination through this process. The author’s definition of historical imagination formed the foundation for this study. In addition, the concept of shared voice or the interactive memory of former students and their teacher through conversation was developed for use through the methodology of oral history. Hermeneutics provided the interpretive instrument for constructing and understanding the narrative expressed through participants' conversation. The interview lent itself to the expression of former students' stories recollecting "action" and "artifact within action." Thematic analysis was used to interpret the conversational data. Three main themes emerged from the data: recollecting feelings, creating images and pictures and experiencing the past. Within the theme recollecting feelings, three references emerged: feelings of emotional involvement, "the actual feeling" and feeling closeness with the group. A salient conclusion of this study is that participants' historical response was evident over time, expressed as the "actual feeling" and utilized in the active construction of meaning through vivid recollections, which employed historical imagination to explain and extend historical understandings. Esta dissertação tem por escopo estudar a interface do Acordo TRIPS com o a Convenção sobre Diversidade Biológica, sob a perspectiva dos países em desenvolvimento. Para tanto, resgata a construção epistemológica Ocidental do conhecimento, direito, propriedade intelectual e desenvolvimento. Esta base teórica constituída é questionada pela CDB, que apresenta direitos relativos ao acesso de recursos genéticos e / ou conhecimento tradicional que subvertem a ordem estabelecida de geração do conhecimento e acumulação econômica. Tal subversão é parte integrante de movimento maior que questiona o próprio modelo de desenvolvimento e a relação Norte e Sul. Esta pesquisa contextualiza a estruturação legal e organizacional do tema e revisa as contribuições de autores que estudam este, sistematizando-as. Com este arcabouço, ela levanta hipóteses e reflete sobre as respostas destas, identificando paradoxos, compatibilidades e desafios. Apresenta (ndo) se, por fim, uma análise da governança institucional deste tema, através de uma nova configuração cognitiva e legal do mesmo.

This MA dissertation aims at studying the interface of the \'TRIPS Agreementẃith the \'Convention on the Biological Diversity\', under the view of the developing countries. As such, it ransoms the epistemologic building of the Ocidental knowledge, as well as the rights, intelectual property and development. This theoretical basis is questioned by \'CDB\', which presents rights related to the access of genetic resourses/ and the traditional knwledge, which subvert the established order of knowledge generation and economic accumulation. Such subvertion is part of a larger movement that questions its own development model and the North/ South relation. This research contextualizes the legal orgazing structuralization of the theme and revises the contributions of authors that study it, systematizing them. With this backbone, it rises hypotheses and thinks of these hypotheses, identifying paradoxes, compatibilities and challenges. It finally presents an analysis of the institutional governing of this theme, via a new cognitive and legal configuration of the same.

Esta tese visa aprofundar o entendimento das dinâmicas de interação entre atores estatais e não estatais nos processos de criação, continuidade e mudança de regimes internacionais. A pesquisa se apresenta como um estudo de caso demarcado a partir da criação do novo regime internacional de proteção dos direitos de patentes, instituído em 1994 quando da adoção do Acordo sobre Aspectos dos Direitos de Propriedade Intelectual Relacionados ao Comércio (TRIPS) pelos países membros do GATT. Inclui as disputas entre as empresas farmacêuticas e o governo da África do Sul, o contencioso entre Brasil e Estados Unidos, na Organização Mundial do Comércio, e as negociações que culminaram na adoção da Declaração sobre o Acordo TRIPS e Saúde Pública, em novembro de 2001. A partir da problematização das decisões do governo dos Estados Unidos, nos vários momentos do caso, se propõe, como argumento central do trabalho, que a mídia constitui um importante elemento de ligação nos processos através dos quais atores não estatais com capacidade material reduzida exercem influência sobre atores estatais nas decisões acerca da política externa tanto no âmbito bilateral como multilateral

This thesis aims to deepen the understanding of the interactive dynamics between governmental and non governmental actors in the processes of creation, continuity, and change of international regimes. The research is presented as a case study delimited from the creation of the new international regime of intellectual property rights, instituted in 1994, when the Agreement on Trade Related Aspects of Intellectual Property Rights (TRIPS) was adopted by the GATT member-countries. It includes the disputes between the pharmaceutical companies and the government of South Africa, the controversy between Brazil and the United States, in the World Trade Organization, and the negotiations that culminated in the Declaration on the TRIPS Agreement and Public Health, adopted in November 2001. The Latin America, the richest continent in the planet s biodiversity, has been subject to expropriation by multinational corporations seeking access to plants and animals or knowledge related to biodiversity, produced by indigenous peoples or traditional communities, which will give support to the scientific findings used by large industries in the production of medicines, cosmetics and a wide variety of products available in the market, for wich the industries claimed intellectual property rights, with the exclusion of traditional populations. In this scenario, there are overlaps between The CBD and TRIPs Agreement in multilateral settings, where the possibility of protecting biodiversity shares space with the same tendency to your merchandization. Although the The CBD and TRIPs Agreement structure different international issues, this norms interact from the granting of intellectual property rights on biodiversity products. Because of this, the research aims to comprehend the extent to which intellectual property rights under the WTO model, notably patents, impact on biodiversity protection by the Latin American countries. Investigates the multilateral regulation of biodiversity protection and intellectual property with the central analysis, respectively, in the CBD and TRIPs. Then, the structures of the multilateral system are confronted with a sui generis system, in order to find out if they are alternatives to protect biodiversity in Latin America. Thus, was possible to conclude that the Latin American countries have their possibilities to care of the biodiversity limited by international regime of intellectual property, which allows private ownership of biodiversity in the form of biotechnologies. This provides two contrary ways: to maintain the international regime of intellectual property that ensures the trade of bio-merchandise with patents, or to structure a regulatory framework to care of biodiversity, in the Conference of the Parties to the CBD and negotiations in the Council for TRIPs. However, the strong opposition of the North countries to the interests of Latin American countries leads to investigate a sui generis system, to articulate a unified position in Latin America for the international confrontation and have for basis the guarantee of rights to the traditional peoples on their traditional knowledge.

Ironiška, kad dauguma šių ligų yra išgydomos šiuolaikiniais vaistais, tačiau dauguma žmonių neturi priėjimo prie šių vaistų, ypač besivystančiose šalyse. Šią problemą įtakoja daugelis faktorių, tačiau dažnai vaistų prieinamumas būna apribojamas dėl aukštų vaistų kainų, kurios dažnai būna stiprios intelektinės nuosavybės apsaugos pasekmė. Šiame darbe analizuojama vaistų prieinamumo problema intelektinės nuosavybės ir žmogaus teisių kontekste. Ieškoma atsakymo į klausimą, ar išradimų, susijusių su vaistų gamyba, patentinė apsauga, nepažeidžia žmogaus teisių į sveikatos priežiūrą. Ypatingas dėmesys skiriamas Sutarčiai dėl intelektinės nuosavybės teisių prekyboje (TRIPS Sutartis) ir jos daromai įtakai vaistų prieinamumui. Ši sutartis susilaukė didelės kritikos dėl nesugebėjimo išlaikyti pusiausvyros tarp patentinės apsaugos ir vaistų prieinamumo. Išanalizavus problemą, buvo nustatyta, kad egzistuoja paradoksalus ryšys tarp patentų teisės ir vaistų prieinamumo. Patentų teisės suteikiama apsauga veda prie patentuotų vaistų prieinamumo apribojimų dėl išaugusių jų kainų, todėl egzistuoja riba, kurią pasiekus yra tikslinga apriboti išradimų, susijusių su vaistų gamyba, patentinę apsaugą, siekiant užtikrinti vaistų prieinamumą visuomenei. Each year millions of people die from infecious diseases. Ironically, mosto f these diseases are curable with modern medicines, but most people don‘t have access to these drugs, especially in developing countries. The are many reasons for the lack of access to medicines, but in many cases the high price of drugs is a barrier to needed medicines and the unaffordable prices are often the result of strong intellectual property protection. This paper analyses the problem of access to medicines in the context of human rights and intellectual property. It tries to answer the question whether patents for pharmaceutical inventions infringe on the human right to health. Particular attention is paid to the Agreement on trade related aspects of intellectual property (TRIPS Agreement) and the impact it has on access to medicines. TRIPS is widely criticized for failing to maintain a balance between patent protection and access to medicines. Previously in many countries patents for pharmaceutical inventions were not allowed or they were limited but after TRIPS everything changed. The Agreement widened the scope of patentability and included pharmaceutical inventions. ▼ Access to medicines is an essential component of the basic human right to health and a key determinant of the importance attached to the health care system of a country. It essentially entails the availability and acceptability of the essential medicines on the market and the ability of patients to afford such medicines when needed. Globally, countries face access to medicine challenges partly because of patents which undoubtedly accounts for excessive pricing of medicine. As such, efforts have been made to ensure the accessibility of medicines through the Trade-Related Aspect of Intellectual Property Rights (TRIPS) flexibilities of the World Trade Organisation (WTO). Beyond these interventions, it is incumbent on Members of the WTO to domesticate the flexibilities of the TRIPS Agreement before their utilisation because by their very nature, they cannot be self-executed. With an estimated population of 29.6 million, about 310 000 people in Ghana are living with HIV. The country’s health facilities record 40 per cent of outpatient visits each year and about 14 550 per 100 000 of the population are infected with tuberculosis with cancer on the rise. These diseases require medicines which are mostly patented yet Ghana has access to medicine problems despite the existence of a national health insurance system. Ghana has however not fully incorporated the TRIPS flexibilities in its national legislations and therefore unable to fully utilise the flexibilities as an option to access essential medicines. Questions therefore remain as to why and how Ghana can utilise the flexibilities to improve access to medicines. Based on an examination of the WTO’s patent system and legislations of Ghana, this mini- thesis contends that, the extent of incorporation of the flexibilities are inadequate due to the existence of lacunas in the Ghanaian legislations. Furthermore, a comparative assessment with South Africa supports an understanding that conditions are not ripe for full utilisation of all the flexibilities. It further argues that the utilisation of the TRIPS flexibilities by Ghana has been rendered ineffective due to administrative, political, economic and social challenges which adversely affects the full utilisation of the flexibilities incorporated and those yet to be incorporated. It is therefore important that Ghana adopts holistic approaches taking into consideration best practices if the TRIPS flexibilities must be effectively utilised. This mini-thesis concludes that, the TRIPS flexibilities are necessary for accessing essential medicines in Ghana to promote the right to health and that a review of Ghana’s current legislations to fully incorporate the TRIPS flexibilities and addressing other non-legal challenges are the required linchpin for effective utilisation of the TRIPS flexibilities. ▼ Education through field exploration is fundamental in geoscience. But not all students enjoy equal access to field-based learning because of time, cost, distance, ability, and safety constraints. At the same time, technological advances afford ever more immersive, rich, and student-centered virtual field experiences. Virtual field trips may be the only practical options for most students to explore pedagogically rich but inaccessible places. A mixed-methods research project was conducted on an introductory and an advanced geology class to explore the implications of learning outcomes of in-person and virtual field-based instruction at Grand Canyon National Park. The study incorporated the Great Unconformity in the Grand Canyon, a 1.2 billion year break in the rock record; the Trail of Time, an interpretive walking timeline; and two immersive, interactive virtual field trips (iVFTs). The in-person field trip (ipFT) groups collectively explored the canyon and took an instructor-guided inquiry hike along the interpretive Trail of Time from rim level, while iVFT students individually explored the canyon and took a guided-inquiry virtual tour of Grand Canyon geology from river level. High-resolution 360° spherical images anchor the iVFTs and serve as a framework for programmed overlays that enable interactivity and allow the iVFT to provide feedback in response to student actions. Students in both modalities received pre- and post-trip Positive and Negative Affect Schedules (PANAS). The iVFT students recorded pre- to post-trip increases in positive affect (PA) scores and decreases in negative (NA) affect scores, representing an affective state conducive to learning. Pre- to post-trip mean scores on concept sketches used to assess visualization and geological knowledge increased for both classes and modalities. However, the iVFT pre- to post-trip increases were three times greater (statistically significant) than the ipFT gains. Both iVFT and ipFT students scored 92-98% on guided-inquiry worksheets completed during the trips, signifying both met learning outcomes. Virtual field trips do not trump traditional in-person field work, but they can meet and/or exceed similar learning objectives and may replace an inaccessible or impractical in-person field trip.
