Den underliggande idén för denna studie är frågan om en ljudrelaterad grammatik kan undervisas via fonologiska övningar och diktamen för att förbättra den mekaniska skrivförmågan och om språkundervisningsmetoder för årskurs 1–2 kan också utnyttjas för äldre elever. Huvudsyftet med den här studien är att undersöka hur sverigefinska elever behärskar ljud av standardfinska med fokus på långa och korta vokaler och konsonanter samt diftonger. Dessutom är målet att testa en diktamensmetod som bedömer utgångsnivån av elevernas färdighetsnivå för att skriva korta och långa vokaler och konsonanter samt diftonger. Forskningsfrågorna är följande: 1) Vilka slags avvikelser jämfört med standardfinska finns i sverigefinska elevers skrivning av korta och långa vokaler och konsonanter samt diftonger? 2) Hur mycket avvikelser jämfört med standard finska finns i sverigefinska elevers skrivning av korta och långa vokaler och konsonanter samt diftonger? 3) Vilken typ av korrelation kan man hitta mellan avvikelser jämfört med standard finska och externa bakrundsvariabler. Denna studie av vilken teoretisk bakgrund läggs på fonologi, pedagogik och sociolingvistik har ett särskilt fokus på sverigefinsk kultur och flerspråkighet. Huvudmaterialet samlades in genom en diktamensövning med 22 skolelever i åldern 9–13 år och analyserades med hjälp av ordstrukturanalys. Utöver detta analyserades ett berättande textprov från tio elever. Bakgrundsinformation samlades in från föräldrar och jämfördes med resultaten av ordstrukturanalysen med hjälp av en implikationsskala. Studien visar att de viktigaste avvikelserna kring långa vokaler och konsonanter är de saknade bokstäverna, dvs enkelskrivning av ljuden. De mest utmanande långa vokalerna är oo, ee, yy och ää och de långa konsonanterna ss, rr och nn. Dessutom sker omkastning mellan bokstäver: för vokaler u > o, o > å och y > u och för konsonanter: m > n och kk > ck. De mest utmanande diftongerna är yi, ey, ie, uo, yö, öy, äy och iy och de lättaste att hantera är ai, oi, au, eu och öi. Dessutom blandas ibland o ihop u, u ihop y och ä ihop e. Det verkar som att bakgrundsvariablerna inte visar någon betydande korrelation med de språkliga färdigheterna vid hantering av vokaler, konsonanter och diftonger. Hur som helst säger en försiktig tolkning att det verkar ha en positiv effekt om man har lärt sig språket under de första tre åren och om man använder språket med släktingar.

▼ In 1853, the South African Auxiliary Bible Society issued a “Circular” designed to take stock of “the progress which had already been made in translating, printing and circulating the Word of God in the different Native Languages or Dialects of South Africa.” In his reply, William Shaw, the head of the Wesleyan-Methodist Missionary Society in the Eastern Cape region, argued that the various African communities residing between the Cape Colony and Delagoa Bay spoke dialects of a common ‘Caffre’ language. Accordingly, he proposed the idea of jointly producing a single ‘Caffre’ translation of the Bible that would lay the basis for a single, unifying standard language. Although the members of the American Board of Commissioners for Foreign Missions in the Natal-Zululand region had previously promoted similar initiatives, they categorically rejected Shaw’s proposal in 1854. Since this rejection resulted in the bifurcation of ‘Caffre’ into separate Xhosa and Zulu languages, the year 1854 ranks as a crucial moment in the historical development of two of South Africa’s major languages, language communities and ethno- linguistic identities. This dissertation explores the genealogy of this bifurcation. Following constructivist interpretations of missionary linguistics, it argues that this bifurcation did not result from the differences that existed between the speaking practices of these two regions but from missionaries’ conflicting discourses about these differences. However, it is argued that these conflicting discourses did not depend primarily on the contemporary fascination with natural history, the demands of the colonial state, or Herderian notions of the relationship between language and Volk as existing constructivist scholarship argues. Instead, these discourses resulted in important ways from the complex entanglements between European and African ways of knowing. By drawing attention to these entanglements, this dissertation shows that the development of Xhosa and Zulu as distinct languages cannot be explained by unidirectional constructivist interpretations but must involve an African-centric approach that is sensitive to the ways in which knowledge, even under asymmetric relations of power, is mutually constitutive. ▼ Despite having strict phonological standards, the nasal vowels in French actually fluctuate greatly beyond these rigid rules in their realizations across the francophone world. Even in the Standard dialect, based upon what is spoken in Paris, considerable variability is seen between speakers in the production of nasal vowels and increasingly since the beginning of the 20th century. These deviations from the phonological norm are not haphazard; there are linguistic reasons behind every evolutionary change in a language. The goal of this study is to clarify the current situation of the nasal vowels in contemporary French – more specifically, the ongoing evolution of the phonetic realizations of these vowels and the various factors that are attributed to this change. Through research into the different sociolinguistic, extralinguistic, perceptual, and pedagogical factors that are involved in language change, we can see the evolutionary pattern of the French nasal vowels and potentially see their future direction as well. Sociolinguistic factors such as age, sex, and social class have greatly affected the utilization of the nasal vowels. The use of different realizations and their associations with different oratory styles and regionalisms have effectively given the nasal vowels a sort of shibboleth quality. By understanding how vowels are perceived and studying cross-linguistic perception, we are able to make inferences on intra-linguistic perception and the potential evolutionary effects it can have on the nasal vowels. Finally, due to the incredible influence of prescriptive works on phonetics and phonology, it is imperative that these works are consulted. Through research into the pedagogy of nasal vowel pronunciation, we can identify when certain changes in the nasal vowel pronunciation have entered the ?norm? and to what extent. All of these factors play crucial roles in the intricate vowel system of each francophone, slowly evolving the language into what it is today and what it will be tomorrow. ▼ While normal child language acquisition results in complete productive and comprehension abilities at a relatively young age, adult language acquisition is more belabored and often results in linguistic abilities that differ from those of native speakers in terms of both productive and comprehension abilities. A major line of research in language acquisition studies seeks to determine and explain potential causes of these differences. One current and influential hypothesis, the Interface Hypothesis (Sorace 2011), claims that dissimilarities are a product of the increased cognitive load experienced by bilinguals. That is, since bilinguals possess two grammars, they must simultaneously inhibit one language while activating the other. As a consequence of the increased cognitive load, the Interface Hypothesis predicts that bilinguals will show differences on properties requiring integration of purely linguistic information (e.g. syntax) with extralinguistic information (e.g. discourse or pragmatics). I test this prediction in near-native adult second language acquirers of Spanish who are native speakers of Farsi using offline tasks measuring grammatical accuracy and interpretation of referential and expletive subject pronouns as well as online tasks measuring language processing. The particular participant group, linguistic properties and combination of offline and online experimental methodology are especially relevant to the debate surrounding near-native speaker ultimate attainment potential and bilingual processing. That is, the experimental group participants meet the requirements of the Interface Hypothesis in that they are highly fluent second language speakers that have lived in a Spanish-speaking environment for over 30 years. While the language pairing is quite novel, the linguistic property examined is interesting in that Spanish and Farsi are both null subject languages with analogous discourse distributions of subject pronouns. However, the underlying syntax of each language differs therefore necessitating restructuring in order for the speakers to converge on the syntax of subjects in Spanish. Finally, employing both offline and online measures makes it possible to test the Interface Hypothesis’s claim that bilingual processing is different from monolingual processing. ▼ The aim of this paper is to explore the features that combine to make up the distinctive accent of the actor Sir Sean Connery. This study outlines the subject’s basic vowel system and compares it to data collected on the vowel systems of Received Pronunciation (RP) and Scottish Standard English (SSE) from previous research (Stuart-Smith 1999, Hawkins & Midgely 2005, Fisk 2006). Furthermore, this essay examines the degree to which other elements associated with SSE are present in the subject’s accent. These features include the Scottish Vowel Lengthening Rule (SVLR), the presence of dark /l/, rhoticity and T-glottalling. It is hypothesised that the subject speaks a modified variety of SSE yet retains the aforementioned qualities typically associated with SSE. The speech analysis software programs Wavesurfer (version 1.4.7.) and Praat (version 4.4.33.) were used to analyse sections of sound taken from a speech given by the subject at an awards ceremony. Instrumental analysis of this nature was deemed appropriate in order to establish a high degree of objectivity in this study. Of the wide range of recorded material available the subject’s acceptance speech was judged most suitable for analysis. This is a passage of spontaneous speech as opposed to a movie script, where the subject talks of his background and career. Having analysed the subject’s accent in this way, certain sociolinguistic implications can be drawn. The results suggest that Sir Sean Connery does indeed speak a variety of SSE however rather surprisingly the subject’s accent appears quite typical of his Edinburgh origins. The vowel system not only identifies the subject as an SSE speaker but also indicates traces of his working-class background e.g., the frontal quality to Connery’s realisation of /u/ and his low /I/ are typical of a working-class SSE speaker. Moreover, the general low quality found in Connery’s basic vowel system can be interpreted as revealing a little of his working-class origins. Evidence of the other features associated with SSE was also found in the subject’s accent. Durational evidence indicates (albeit tentatively at this stage) that the SVLR operates within his accent while dark /l/ and t-glottalling were also observed. While it is also apparent that Connery speaks a rhotic variety of English it is the nature and variety of his /r/ production that is most interesting. The subject appears to produce a retroflex realisation of /r/ which affects other consonants in its environment. This /r/ may be indicative of an earlier Irish influence over Connery’s accent. It should be stated that due to the nature and the limited size of this study, all findings are preliminary and more research is needed into this area before any firm conclusions can be drawn.

▼ Cross-dialectal acceptance of a written standard (CAWS) is essential for that standard to be used by speakers of divergent dialects of a language. Earlier works have focused on the influence of linguistic differences on comprehension of the standard, but little attention has been given the influence of socio-cultural and programmatic factors on acceptance of a standard. Case studies of the Lelemi and Likpakpaanl language development programmes provide information through which the socio-cultural and programmatic factors which influence CAWS can be identified. Due to the complex nature of the topic, various indicators are used to measure levels of acceptance of the written standard by speakers of each dialect. Socio-cultural factors which influence CAWS relate either to the language community's degree of interdialectal communication or to their perception of being a unified people. These factors include social structure, governance, cultural and religious activities, and patterns of marriage, commerce, transportation and migration. The existence of extensive social networks and the role of opinion leaders were also influential Activities of the two language development programmes which positively influenced CAWS included those which informed and involved speakers of all dialects of the language. These activities built on the existing levels of unity and inter-dialectal communication by using existing social networks. The Lelemi programme involved speakers of all dialects more uniformly than did the Likpakpaanl programme. However, both programmes informed and involved speakers of all dialects to some extent. The dialect communities of each language did not equally accept the written standards. Acceptance appeared to correlate more strongly with programmatic factors than with sociocultural or linguistic factors. This thesis provides a model for language teams to follow in 1) identifying socio-cultural factors which have the potential to influence CAWS; 2) applying knowledge about the socio-cultural situation to programme planning; and, 3) assessing levels of acceptance by speakers of each dialect. Comment les locuteurs kabyles vivent-ils la diversité linguistique de leur région ? Dans quellemesure les discours épilinguistiques (discours proférés sur les langues) de nos informateursproduisent-ils une hiérarchisation des langues et des espaces dans le contexte kabyle ? Quelleattitude adoptent-ils et comment réagissent-ils face à cette hiérarchisation sociolinguistique età la relation langue/dominance dans leur imaginaire sociolinguistique ? À quel point lesdiscours épilinguistiques de nos informateurs énoncent-ils le statut et la légitimité d’emploi dukabyle comparativement aux autres systèmes linguistiques (il s’agit dans ce cas de l’arabe etdu français) posés en complémentarité ou en concurrence ? Nous verrons en quoi les discoursépilinguistiques de nos informateurs leur permettent de poser et de décliner leur identitésociale par une appropriation ou un rejet de ce qui est dit sur leur langue et leur territoire.Nous entendons par territoire non seulement la Kabylie en tant qu’entité géographique maisaussi en tant qu’espace linguistique et social. En effet, nous verrons comment se produisentl'appropriation symbolique de l'espace et le marquage sociolinguistique du territoire kabylepar le biais des représentations de nos informateurs. L’objectif de notre travail est de menerune réflexion théorique sur la question de l’articulation entre l’identité, le langage, l'espace etles représentations sociolinguistiques.

How do Kabyle speakers live their region’s linguistic diversity? To what extent do ourinformants’ epilinguistic discourses made about languages produce a hierarchy of bothlanguage and geographical space in the Kabyle context? What attitude do they adopt and howdo they react to this sociolinguistic prioritization and to the matter of language Vs dominancein their sociolinguistic imagination? To what extent do the informants’ epilinguisticdiscourses portray the status and the legitimacy of the use of Kabyle language compared toother linguistic systems (in that case Arabic and French languages), put in a complimentary orin a competing relationship? In fact, we will demonstrate how the epilinguistic discourses ofour informants allow them to state and convey their social identity through appropriation orrejection of what is said about their language and territory. By territory, we mean not onlyKabylie as a geographical entity but as a linguistic and social space as well. Indeed, we shallexpose how both the symbolic appropriation of space and the Kabyle sociolinguistic markingof territory are produced through the representations of our informants. The purpose of ourwork is to conduct a theoretical reflection on the relationship between identity, language,space and sociolinguistic representations.

Ämnet för denna vetenskapliga essän är simultan flerspråkighet, det vill säga individer som växer upp med två eller fler modersmål från födseln. Essän har sin utgångspunkt i en berättelse. Berättelsen gestaltar en svår situation från mitt arbete som fritidshemslärare där ett pedagogiskt dilemma uppstår. I del ett undersöker jag vad språkforskning säger om simultan flerspråkighet och språkutveckling. Del två handlar om flerspråkighet ur ett pedagogisk perspektiv. Där berörs hur känslor är sammanflätade med språk samt hur det påverkar fritidshemsläraren och lärarens roll och ansvar för flerspråkighet i en skola med enspråkig norm. I del tre undersöker jag flerspråkighet ur ett språkfilosofisk perspektiv och fördjupar min analys med hjälp av ett resonemang om erfarenhet, kunskap och språkbruk. Barn kan vara mer känslomässigt förenade med ett av sina två språk i vissa situationer. Slutligen framgår det att i en skola där enspråkighet är en norm bär pedagoger ett stort ansvar i att välkomna flerspråkighet.

The subject for this scientific essay is simultaneous multilingualism. This is where an individual learns to speak two languages from birth. The essay has its beginning with a story. The story is based on experiences at my work as a Leisure time teacher where a pedagogical dilemma occurs. In part one I examine what linguistic research says about simultaneous multilingualism and language development. Part two is about multilingualism from an educational perspective, and how emotions are intertwined with language. This paper analyzes the leisure-time teacher and the teacher's role and responsibility for multilingualism in a school with a monolingual norm. In part three I examine multilingualism from a philosophical perspective and immersed myself in the view of experience, knowledge, and use of language. It appears that simultaneous multilingualism could mean a certain delay in language development for the first few years but in the end is beneficial to the pupils language development. Children may be more emotionally connected to one of the two languages in certain situations. Finally it appears that in a school where monolingualism is the norm the educators carry a great responsibility to welcome multilingualism.

▼ Tato diplomová práce pojednává o problematice kryptografických systémů a šifrovacích algoritmů, u nichž je rozebráno, jak fungují, kde se využívají a jak se implementují v praxi. V první kapitole jsou uvedeny základní kryptografické pojmy, rozdělení algoritmů na symetrické a asymetrické a zhodnocení jejich použití a spolehlivostí. Následující kapitoly popisují substituční a transpoziční šifry, blokové a proudové šifry, z nichž je většina šifrovacích algoritmů odvozena. V neposlední řadě jsou jmenovány a popsány režimy, v nichž šifry pracují. Ve čtvrté kapitole jsou popsány principy některých konkrétních šifrovacích algoritmů. Cílem je přiblížit podstatu fungování jednotlivých algoritmů. U těch složitějších algoritmů jako DES a GOST jsou pro lepší představu přiložena bloková schémata popisující průběh a pořadí prováděných operací. V závěru každého algoritmu je uveden příklad jeho použití v praxi. Následující pátá kapitola pojednává o tématu hardwarové implementace šifer. V této kapitole je porovnána hardwarová implementace se softwarovou a to hlavně z praktického úhlu pohledu. Jsou popsány různé prostředky návrhu implementace a různé programovací jazyky pro návrh hardwarové implementace algoritmů. U programovacích jazyků jsou uvedeny jejich vývoj, výhody a nevýhody. Kapitola šestá pojednává o samotném návrhu vybraných šifrovacích algoritmů. Konkrétně se jedná o návrh hardwarové implementace proudové šifry s generátorem pseudonáhodné posloupnosti založeným na LFSR navrhnuté v jazyku VHDL a také v programu Matlab. Jako druhý návrh hardwarové implementace byla zvolena bloková šifra GOST. Tato byla navržena v jazyce VHDL. Funkce obou návrhů implementací šifrovacích algoritmů byly otestovány a výsledky zhodnoceny.; This diploma’s thesis discourses the cryptographic systems and ciphers, whose function, usage and practical implementation are analysed. In the first chapter basic cryptographic terms, symmetric and asymetric cryptographic algorithms and are mentioned. Also usage and reliability are analysed. Following chapters mention substitution, transposition, block and stream ciphers, which are elementary for most cryptographic algorithms. There are also mentioned the modes, which the ciphers work in. In the fourth chapter are described the principles of some chosen cryptographic algorithms. The objective is to make clear the essence of the algorithms’ behavior. When describing some more difficult algorithms the block scheme is added. At the end of each algorithm’s description the example of practical usage is written. The chapter no. five discusses the hardware implementation. Hardware and software implementation is compared from the practical point of view. Several design instruments are described and different hardware design programming languages with their progress, advantages and disadvantages are mentioned. Chapter six discourses the hardware implementation design of chosen ciphers. Concretely the design of stream cipher with pseudo-random sequence generator is designed in VHDL and also in Matlab.
