Die vorliegende Diplomarbeit analysiert jeweils zwei deutsche Filme aus dem Jahr 1937 und zwei US-amerikanische Melodramen aus den 1950er Jahren des Regisseurs Detlef Sierck beziehungsweise Douglas Sirk. Der Fokus der Untersuchung richtet sich dabei auf das Sichtbarmachen eines möglichen emanzipatorischen und in weiterer Hinsicht subversiven Potentials.
