▼ With the rapid advance in technology, portable photography equipments have been generally available to the public. The advantages and convenience of professional camera in taking a photograph become less obvious. Owing to the developments of backside illumination (BSI), low noise CMOS Sensors and curve CMOS Sensors, the shortcomings of small lens cameras (insufficient light level) can be improved. The design of arrayed lens system is becoming a more attractive option when compared with the large lens camera which is not only bulky and also very expensive. In this thesis, we investigate the enhancement of imaging quality using lens arrays. We strive to achieve a good balance between the experiment and the theory. We begin with the presentation of the point spread function and basic imaging principles in the theory of optics. We then discuss the advantages and limitations of the lens array in its capability of enhancement of imaging quality. The combined optical image constructed from perfectly aligned sub-images is just a superposition of optical power distributions on the sensing plane, and hence, the resolution of the lens array image cannot increase. However, the signal-to-noise ratio of this synthesized image can be greatly enhanced. This is a big advantage for the lens array system when taking picture in the low light environment. In the latter half of the thesis we perform experimental verification of our previous analysis on improving image quality on raw image data with noise coming from the sensors. We simulate the perfect lens array system by repeatedly taking the same picture at very high frame rate under very low light condition. We show that as the number of frames increases, the image signal-to-noise ratio increases much like the theoretical prediction. The âapparentâ image resolution is also improved. This thesis studies control systems with communication constraints. Such constraints arise due to the fact that practical control systems often use non-transparent communication links, i.e., links subject to data-rate constraints, random data-dropouts or random delays. Traditional control theory cannot deal with such constraints and the need for new tools and insights arises. We study two problems: control with average data-rate constraints and control over analog erasure channels with i.i.d. dropout profiles. When focusing on average data-rate constraints, it is natural to ask whether information theoretic ideas may assist the study of networked control systems. In this thesis we show that it is possible to use fundamental information theoretic concepts to arrive at a framework that allows one to tackle performance related control problems. In doing so, we show that there exists an exact link between control systems subject to average data-rate limits, and control systems which are closed over additive i.i.d. noise channels subject to a signal-to-noise ratio constraint. On the other hand, in the case of control systems subject to i.i.d. data-dropouts, we show that there exists a second-order moments equivalence between a linear feedback system which is interconnected over an analog erasure channel, and the same system when it is interconnected over an additive i.i.d. noise channel subject to a signal-to-noise ratio constraint. From the results foreshadowed above, it follows that the study of control systems closed over signal-to-noise ratio constrained additive i.i.d. noise channels is a task of relevance to many networked control problems. Moreover, the interplay between signal-to-noise ratio constraints and control objectives is an interesting issue in its own right. This thesis starts with such a study. Then, we use the resultant insights to address performance issues in control systems subject to either average data-rate constraints or i.i.d. data-dropouts. Our approach shows that, once key equivalences are exposed, standard control intuition and synthesis machinery can be used to tackle networked control problems in an exact manner. It also sheds light into fundamental results in the literature and gives (partial) answers to several previously open questions. We believe that the insights in this thesis are of fundamental importance and, to the best of the author's knowledge, novel.

▼ Ultra wide-band (UWB) systems have recently attracted much research interest owing to their appealing features in short-range wireless communications. These features include high data rates, low power consumption, multiple access communications, and precise positioning capabilities.On the other hand, multiple antenna systems (MAS) and space-time coding (STC) techniques, such as space time block coding (STBC) are well known for their great potential to play a significant role in the design of the next- generation broadband wireless communications. Multiple-Input Multiple-Output (MIMO) system extends the link reliability (spatial diversity (SD)) and increase throughput,(spatial multiplexing (SM)).However, there is a fundamental tradeoﬀ(DMT) between how much of each type of gain in any coding scheme can extract. In this thesis the approach for multi-antenna system is to obtain tradeoff between SD and SM gains for UWB technology. Atheoretical analysis is conducted to enlighten the DMTfor UWB-MAS (UWB- MISO/SIMO) and therefore; performance enhancements provided by the proposed scheme compared to the classic single link scheme is evaluatedat ﬁnite signal-to-noise ratios (SNRs).The tradeoff curves provide a characterization of achievable SD and SM for a given space-time code at SNR’s encountered in practice. A Rake receiver is employed that captures energy from sequences transmitted from N transmit antennas at M receive antennas in a subset of the resolvable multipath components. Exact diversity gain expressions are determined for orthogonal space–time block codes (OSTBC). It is shown that the asymptotical diversity gain has an infinite valueeven with single-antenna systems and the multi-antenna techniques can be very beneficial in the practical range of signal-to-noise ratios. Comparisons are also provided with DMT results in the literature and found thatcodes that are not optimal over the Rayleigh fading channels are also not optimal over the UWB channels. A basic speech enhancement can be achieved by the suppression of background noise and reverberation from the clean speech. The point to be noted is to achieve it with a low computational complexity. The aim is to estimate signal arriving optimally from the desired direction in the presence of reverberant-noisy speech signal. Recent studies show that this can be achieved by designing various kinds of robust fixed and adaptive beamformers. A beamformer does spatial filtering in the sense that it separates two signals with overlapping frequency content originating from distinctive directions. In this contribution, robust beamformers namely Elkos beamformer, Wiener beamforming and optimal signal to noise interference ratio (SNIR) beamformer are designed and analyzed collaboratively in a group under the consideration of hearing aid constraints such as the microphone distance and different real world room dimensions. A fractionally delayed (FD) all pass Thiran filters are designed to get a maximally flat group delay. A virtual room image model is designed to achieve different dimensions of the room and their reverberant speech signals. The objective of this thesis is to design and implement an optimal SNIR beamformer in anechoic and reverberant environments with different noises, i.e. wind, white, factory and interference. It is implemented and simulated offline in MATLAB. The performance of the optimal SNIR Beamformer is evaluated by considering the objective measures such as SNRI, SD, ND, RR and PESQI under different noisy environments in anechoic and reverberated environments. These parameters are measured by assuming input SNR levels at 0dB, 5dB, 10 dB, 15 dB, 20 dB and 25 dB. In addition to this a new parameter RR is also evaluated in reverberated environment. This parameter is measured by varying the number of microphones. The reverberation power suppression is analyzed by using RR. Speech quality is analyzed based on signal to noise ratio Improvement and speech intelligibility is measured using PESQ for different noisy environments. Results show that optimal SNIR beamformer performs best compared to all other beamformers due to its inherent properties.

▼ This study examines the efficacy of presenting footnotes information in alternative display formats on investors’ judgments and decisions. Non-professional investors play a significant role in the capital markets yet they do not always attend to information contained in footnote disclosures. As a result, nonprofessional investors systematically misprice firms and misallocate resources. Recognizing that increased mandatory and voluntary disclosures create additional challenges for non-professional investors, both the FASB and SEC have actively sought ways to increase the effectiveness of disclosures. I hypothesize that high display proximity, low signal-to-noise presentation formats can increase investors’ attention to and processing of footnote disclosures and hence performance on an investing task. Further I hypothesize that low display proximity, low signal-to-noise presentation formats can improve investor performance on a recognition task. Lastly, I hypothesize that non-professional investors viewing high display proximity, low signal-to-noise footnote disclosures will rate usability higher than nonprofessional investors viewing footnote disclosures in the other three display formats. Amazon Mechanical Turk workers are used as participants in a 2 x 2 between-participants experiment using two task types: an integrative (investing) task and a non-integrative (recognition) task. I manipulate display proximity (inline or side-by-side) and signal-to-noise ratio (footnotes presented simultaneously or individually). Contrary to my hypotheses, I find that low signal-to-noise ratio increases non-professional investors’ performance on both the integrative (investing) and non-integrative (recognition) tasks. Further, although task performance increased under the low signal-to-noise presentation format, participants did not evaluate either signal-to-noise presentation format easier to use or more useful. Instead, participants found the high display proximity (side-by-side) presentation format easier to use, although it did not yield performance increases.

▼ Raman microspectroscopy is an optoelectronic technique based on the inelastic scattering of light. This technique has been demonstrated to have potential to identify different materials based on subtle differences in the Raman spectral profile using various multivariate statistical classification tools. However, Raman scattering is an inherently weak process. Low photon counts coupled with non-ideal collection efficiencies means that Raman spectroscopy is vulnerable to noise. This makes system optimisations, as well as efficient and reliable noise removal, a necessity in sensitive applications such as chemical classification or diagnostics. Provided in this thesis are software and experimental methodologies to evaluate system performance, predict system performance under various conditions, and to identify the optimal system configuration/set-up in order to achieve the highest possible signal to noise ratio. Modelling methodologies presented in this thesis allow the user to systematically evaluate minimum acquisition times, optimise camera read-out modes, and predict system behaviour with alternative optical elements in order to maximise signal to noise ratio. The denosing algorithms presented in this thesis have been shown to provide superior signal to noise ratio when compared with their traditional counterparts. When compared with the double acquisition method, the proposed cosmic ray removal algorithm resulted in a 10% improvement. An algorithm that enhances Savitzky-Golay smoothing with maximum likelihood estimation produced spectra with up to double the signal to noise ratio when compared to the raw spectra and consistently outperformed the algorithms it was compared to. The use of reflective substrates is also investigated and was shown to approximately triple the collected Raman scatter when compared with transparent substrates. By utilising the methodologies detailed in this thesis it is possible to improve the efficiency of the Raman system in question.

Artefakter försvårar analys av långtids-elektrokardiografi-registrering (LTER) och resulterar i en försämrad diagnostisk säkerhet. Minimering av mängden artefakter spelar således en väsentlig roll för ställandet av rätt diagnos. Syftet med denna studie var att jämföra om mängden artefakter, som uppkom vid 24-timmars LTER på patienter, skiljde sig åt med och utan fixering av elektroderna. Populationen bestod av trettio patienter som var inbokade för 24-timmars LTER vid Länssjukhuset Ryhov i Jönköping. Patienterna delades in i två grupper med femton patienter i varje grupp. På grund av fyra externa bortfall bestod det slutgiltiga urvalet av tretton studiedeltagare i vardera gruppen. I grupp A användes ett tubnät för att hålla kablarna på plats och i grupp B fixerades varje elektrod och kabel med Mefix. Grupperna jämfördes sedan avseende mängden artefakter som uppkom under registreringsperioden. För att analysera om det förelåg någon signifikant skillnad i artefaktuppkomst mellan grupperna användes Wilcoxons rangsummetest. Rangsummorna för respektive grupp beräknades och jämfördes med ett kritiskt intervallvärde. Rangsummorna låg inom intervallet för det kritiska värdet, varpå nollhypotesen ej kan förkastas. Följaktligen förelåg ingen signifikant skillnad i mängden uppkomna artefakter mellan grupperna. På grund av ett litet urval samt brister i undersökningsförfarandet kunde dock inga grundade statistiska slutsatser konkluderas.

Artefacts complicate the analysis of long-term electrocardiography-registration (LTER) and result in a worsened diagnostic accuracy. Thus, minimization of the amount of artefacts plays a vital role in the making of a correct diagnosis. The aim of this study was to compare if the amount of artefacts that occurred during 24-hour LTER on patients, differed with and without electrode fixation. Thirty patients who underwent a 24-hour LTER, at Länssjukhuset Ryhov in Jönköping, were included in the study and divided into two groups. In group A; a tubular net bandage was used to keep the electrocardiography (ECG) cables in place. In group B, the electrodes and ECG cables were fixated with Mefix. A comparison was made, between the groups, regarding the amount of artefacts that occurred during the registration period. To analyze if there was a significant difference between the groups, Wilcoxon rank sum test was applied. The result proved to be within the range limits of the critical value, which implies that the null hypothesis cannot be rejected. Hence, there was no significant difference regarding the amount of artefacts that occurred. However, because of a small sample volume and shortfalls in the study procedure, no founded statistical conclusions could be drawn.

▼ Abstract: Prosody is usually studied by means of three classic parameters: fundamental frequency, intensity and duration. As for as dialectology is concerned, prosody has not been the main focus of the research on different dialects. Our goal is to characterize and differentiate Brazilian Portuguese varieties using prosodic parameters. In order to do that, we analyzed the recordings of spontaneous speech from 35 male subjects from seven different Brazilian regions: São Paulo (SP), Minas Gerais (MG), Rio de Janeiro (RJ), Paraná (PR), Distrito Federal (DF), Northeast (NE) and North (N). The speech samples were segmented in Vowel-to-Vowel units (VV units) using the BeatExtractor script. Later, the ProsodicDescriptorExtractor script was used to extract eight prosodic measures which are: speech rate (VV units/s), mean, standard deviation and skewness of the normalized z-score, prominence rate (peaks of z-score/s), median of fundamental frequency, spectral emphasis and rate of non prominent VV units/s. The statistical analysis revealed that five prosodic parameters were able to identify at least one variety and then differentiate it from the others. Fundamental frequency median and spectral emphasis created two groups which separated N and DF (DF is located at West-Central region, near North region) from all the other varieties, considering that N and DF were characterized by high values of these two parameters. On the other hand, skewness of z-score and rate of non prominent VV units/s set DF and N in different groups. Standard deviation of z-score pointed to differences between North varieties and South varieties. We concluded that prosodic parameters can be useful to differentiate Brazilian Portuguese varieties. Another goal of the current study was to analyze the spontaneous speech 'recordings in distinct signal-to-noise ratios. The analysis has shown that Gaussian, additive noise modifies the values for median of F0 and spectral emphasis (the least has changed 154% related to the original values). The results revealed that the rhythmic organization of the speech chain is more indicated to the analysis of acoustic parameters in the presence of noise. Finally, 20 listeners were recruited to answer a perceptual test (free classification test) about the different varieties spoken in Brazil (we used the same spontaneous speech recordings to run the perceptual test). Rio de Janeiro was the most recognized variety, which presented 90% of correct answers, followed by the NE variety. ▼ High signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) is typically required for higher resolution and faster speed in magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). Planar microcoils as receiver probes in MRI systems offer the potential to be configured into array elements for fast imaging as well as to enable the imaging of extremely small objects. Microcoils, however, are thermal noise dominant and suffer limited SNR. Cryo-cooling for the microcoils can reduce the thermal noise, however conventional cryostats are not optimum for the microcoils because they typically use a thick vacuum gap to keep samples to be imaged to near room temperature during cryo-cooling. This vacuum gap is typically larger than the most sensitive region of the microcoils that defines the imaging depth, which is approximately the same as the diameters of the microcoils. Here microfluidic technology is utilized to locally cryo-cool the microcoils and minimize the thermal isolation gap so that the imaging surface is within the imaging depth of the microcoils. The first system consists of a planar microcoil with microfluidically cryo-cooling channels, a thin N2 gap and an imaging. The microcoil was locally cryo-cooled while maintaining the sample above 8°C. MR images using a 4.7 Tesla MRI system shows an average SNR enhancement of 1.47 fold. Second, the system has been further developed into a cryo-cooled microcoil system with inductive coupling to cryo-cool both the microcoil and the on-chip microfabricated resonating capacitor to further improve the Q improvement. Here inductive coupling was used to eliminate the physical connection between the microcoil and the tuning network so that a single cryocooling microfluidic channel could enclose both the microcoil and the capacitor with minimum loss in cooling capacity. Q improvement was 2.6 fold compared to a conventional microcoil with high-Q varactors and transmission line connection. Microfluidically tunable capacitors with the 653% tunability and Q of 1.3 fold higher compared to a conventional varactor have been developed and demonstrated as matching/tuning networks as a proof of concept. These developed microfluidically cryo-cooling system and tunable capacitors for improving SNR will potentially allow MR microcoils to have high-resolution images over small samples. ▼ What would you find below your feet – how do you find out? Perhaps you could look at a geological map, drill, or dig? That could work, but sometimes the maps are not detailed enough, and digging everywhere to find out is impractical. Imagine if you could develop a method that allows you to see straight through the ground, as x–rays through the body! To some extent, such methods already exist; you can for example send electric current into the ground that tells you what lies beneath when it returns. The current does not see the subsurface as we do–no soil, boulders, water or bedrock – but it can tell us about its view of the underground. Its image is in terms of electrical resistivity and chargeability and can be difficult to understand if it is not translated. The translation is accomplished by comparing the electric image with, for example, geological maps and information from boreholes. With this method, we obtain more reliable and more detailed models of the subsurface. Additionally, electrical surveys can help us to determine where we need more subsurface information and where it would be most interesting to drill or dig.When we plan and build structures below or above ground, search for suitable places for wells, or remediate contaminated areas, we need good and reliable information about the ground below. Incorrect or incomplete information about the subsurface can lead to unexpected problems. These problems can in turn lead to delays and reduced sustainability in the implementations. One example of such a project is the train tunnel through Hallandsåsen in Southern Sweden, which suffered several delays and took 23 years to complete, and its final price tag was approximately ten times the initial estimate.This thesis addresses how we can develop and improve the use of electrical current to investigate the subsurface. The method has been used and developed for more than one hundred years, but bottlenecks remain that limit its use. One example is in cities where electrical installations and a complex environment in the subsurface distort the current. We then need to filter the image to make use of the results from the measurements. The method may also be limited by lack of resources needed to conduct the investigations, or to make proper interpretations of its information. By refining and optimising the method, its usefulness can be increased. For example, by enabling its use in urban areas or for projects with limited resources.This thesis describes how we can process signals from electrical surveys and handle interference from other electrical installations, similar to a pair of noise–cancelling headphones. The processing allows us to retrieve more information about the subsurface and increase the reliability of the results. Another improvement that is introduced is a change of the shape of the current that is sent into the ground. The change of waveform results in a reduction in the time required for a survey, while the magnitude of the signals is increased, similar to completing a podcast in half of the time…

▼ For advanced optical networks at bit-rates beyond 100 Gbit/s, there is a desire to realize an evolution of the network architecture and cost-effective performance and scalability. Today's networks are typically built to operate within well-defined specifications and function in a fairly static fashion, and even a single failure can bring down the network services. As the data rates increase and the modulation formats become more complex, it becomes quite challenging to measure the data degradation mechanisms and to provide stable and accurate physical states to the network controller for data dropping, correction, compensation and routing. In order to enhance the functionality of network control and management, optical performance monitoring becomes an increasingly practical tool to overcome such challenges and to agilely reflect the physical state of the network and the quality of all data channels, enabling robust and reconfigurable networks. In this dissertation, we demonstrate OSNR, CD, and PMD monitoring methods particularly to accommodate various high-speed advanced modulation formats. These optical performance monitors presented here are easily deployable, compact, inexpensive, accurate, fast, stable and reliable. ❧ High-capacity optical communication systems are currently developed to meet the inevitable growth in data capacity. Various methods that have been explored to maximize the information capacity of optical communication systems include higher-order modulation formats, polarization multiplexing and space-division multiplexing. Most recently, space-division multiplexing has been considered as an innovative tool to greatly increase the spectral efficiency by transmitting independent data streams via multiple spatial modes in a few-mode fiber, a multi-core fiber or a free-space link. In this dissertation, the main focus is placed on the demonstrations of free-space optical data links with high spectral efficiency and high capacity using spatially multiplexed orbital-angular-momentum (OAM) modes. In contrast to other spatial modes, the distinct features of OAM modes include excellent orthogonality in the spatial domain, low crosstalk among modes and high photon efficiency, making OAM modes useful in many optical signal processing applications. ▼ Microchip electrophoresis (MCE) is a promising analytical tool started more than two decades. With the characteristics of short analysis time, trace level sample, high- throughput and easily integration, lots of efforts have been done with the transportation of the applications from capillary to microfabricated devices. However, with the complex designs on microchip rather than a single straight capillary channel, the strategies and approaches have to be figured out under the challenges of sample introduction, the improvement of separation conditions and the detection, for instance. In miniaturized microchip, the separation channel is reduced to several centimeters or less, fast and quality separation is the priority in a very short effective distance. Compared with the results of incomplete separation of three fluorescent dyes in DC field, we modify the applied electric field by adding a short time of backward voltage to form a pulsed electric field which is inspired from the method of increasing the residence time of analytes by control the bulk flow velocity in a capillary (Kar & Dasgupta, 1999). The results show that the mixture is separated efficiently with three peaks in short distance. After the optimization of the condition of the pulsed field, the highest resolution can reach to 1.28 and 0.94 between two adjacent peaks. A longer traveling time in pulsed field is not caused the large decreasing of signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) in pulsed field as well. Moreover, miniaturized analytical devices suffer from poor detection due to the small volume and low concentration sample. Therefore, an on-line sample pre-concentration through stacking anion species using electrophoretic method is also investigated. There are almost 4-fold increase on signal intensity in both DC and pulsed field with sample stacking over the cases without sample stacking. In the meanwhile, the comparison of sample stacking between DC and pulsed field is made. The results illustrate that the SNR in pulsed field is 25% higher than the one in DC field. ▼ Cochlear implant systems need Automatic Gain Control (AGC) to compress the large dynamic range (~120 dB) of the acoustic environment into the small dynamic range (< 20 dB) of electrical stimulation. This thesis is concerned with the design, implementation and evaluation of AGC systems for cochlear implants. It investigated the effects of AGC on the speech intelligibility of cochlear implant recipients. Various AGC configurations were evaluated with sentences presented over a wide range of levels at different Signal-to-Noise Ratios (SNR) to identify important factors affecting the performance. Signal metrics were developed to quantify the effects of AGC on the channel envelopes. The goal was to improve speech intelligibility in adverse listening conditions.The performance-intensity functions of cochlear implant recipients with no AGC and with a front-end compression limiter were measured in noise. With no AGC, the proportion of envelope clipping grew monotonically with presentation level. The front-end limiter substantially reduced envelope clipping yet gave little improvement in speech intelligibility. The recipients were highly tolerant of envelope clipping when the background noise was low. SNR degradation was identified as the main factor reducing speech intelligibility. A front-end limiter cannot guarantee zero envelope clipping. In contrast, the proposed envelope profile limiter eliminated envelope clipping and hence preserved the spectral profile. The two AGCs were evaluated, with two release times (75 and 625 ms). The shorter release time gave worse speech intelligibility because it caused more waveform distortion and output SNR reduction. For a given release time, preserving spectral envelope profile gave additional benefits. In a take-home experiment, cochlear implant recipients rated a program with the envelope profile limiter equivalent to their everyday program.A conventional cochlear implant signal path uses a predetermined input dynamic range, which is shifted up or down by the AGC. In contrast, the proposed Adaptive Loudness Growth Function (ALGF) continually optimized the input dynamic range by estimating the noise floor and peak level in each channel. The ALGF gave better Speech Reception Threshold (SRT) than the existing state-of-the-art AGC system at the high presentation level when evaluated with a newly developed roving-level SRT test at three presentation levels. ▼ In this dissertation, I discuss and propose several geostatistical methods for functional Magnetic Resonance Imaging (fMRI) data. Geostatistics is a branch of applied statistics that focuses on providing quantitative descriptions of natural variables distributed in space or in time and space. Nowadays geostatistics is popular in many ¯elds of science such as mining, environmental sciences, remote sensing and ecology. Functional Magnetic Resonance Imaging (fMRI) is a relatively new non-invasive technique for studying the workings of the active human brain. To date there has not been much work using geostatistical methods to analyze the brain in spite of the similarities of data types and questions of interest. Some recent exceptions are Spence et al. (2007), who used the variogram function to ¯nd neighbors of voxels of interest and Bowman (2007), who used the empirical variogram to de¯ne the spatial distance structure. My dissertation topic is applying geostatistical methods more broadly in fMRI data analysis. There are three interrelated parts in geostatistics: Classi¯cation, Structural analysis, and Kriging. My research explores these three parts in detail as they apply to fMRI. In clustering, I use geostatistical methods and sparse principal component analysis to analyze the fMRI data and establish a special clustering method for fMRI data time series; my results show that both techniques can e®ectively identify regions of similar activations. A byproduct of my analysis is the ¯nding that masking prior to clustering, as is commonly done in fMRI, may degrade the quality of the discovered clusters, and I o®er an explanation for this phenomenon. In structural analysis, I ¯rst introduce an alternative point of view of an axial image of the brain based on the empirical variograms during di®erent time points, which gives a good understanding of how the brain reacts to the experimental task. I then deal with the variogram modeling of the same axial image, and use parametric and nonparametric hole e®ect models to look at the spatial character of the data. The models I use consider both physical and functional relations among the di®erent parts of the brain, which distinguishes them from previous attempts to use variograms in fMRI. I show the e®ectiveness of the hole e®ect model compared with the regular monotonical model in describing the structure of the fMRI data. In kriging, I choose ¯ltered kriging as an alternative to spline smoothing to remove the measurement errors at the observed sites of the data, and maintain temporal consistency by controlling the noise to signal ratio of the smoothness { an idea borrowed from the smoothing function approach. This proposed new method incorporates combining both spatial and temporal information of the data into the smoothing procedure and can reduce the noise of the data in an intelligent way.
