▼ Objectives- To determine the effect of oral
robenacoxib on experimentally-induced anterior uveitis, and to
evaluate the ability of
robenacoxib to cross an intact
blood-aqueous barrier.
Animals- Twelve healthy adult domestic
shorthair cats.
Procedures- Cats in the treatment group (n=6)
received oral
robenacoxib (1.51 ± 0.36 mg/kg ) once daily beginning
1 day before experimental induction of uveitis by anterior chamber
paracentesis (ACP) and continuing 1 day after paracentesis.
Anterior chamber paracentesis was performed using a 30 g needle
attached to a 1 mL syringe, and 100 µL of aqueous humor were
aspirated over 3-5 seconds. Anterior chamber fluorophotometry was
performed in both eyes of each cat immediately before ACP (time 0),
and at 6, 24, and 48 hours after ACP. An independent t-test was
used to compare percent fluorescein increase in treatment versus
control cats at each time point. Values of p<0.05 were
considered significant. Concentrations of
robenacoxib in aqueous
humor were measured using liquid chromatography and mass
spectrometry.
Results- There was no statistically significant
difference between the ACP and control eye at time 0 (p=0.322).
When comparing the percent fluorescein increase between treatment
and control groups, there was no statistically significant
difference at any time point (p>0.05).
Robenacoxib was present
in small but detectable levels in 5/6 cats in the treatment group.
Conclusions and clinical relevance- Administration of oral
robenacoxib did not significantly lessen experimentally-induced
anterior uveitis in normal cats, as assessed by fluorophotometry.
Low concentrations of aqueous humor
robenacoxib were detectable in
the majority of cats receiving the drug.

submetidas a ovariohisterectomia eletiva.
cardíaca e a frequência respiratória.
finalmente, do GRB.
GR, 3 do grupo GB e 0 do grupo GRB.
do gato bem-sucedida.
ABSTRACT - Perioperative pain relief is a major subject in veterinary practice as it determines the level of
well being of the animals and provides a better anesthetic recovery. Nowadays there is still
lack of knowledge about pain detection and management in the domestic cat (Felis silvestris
catus). Recently a multidimensional composite scale for use in assessing acute
postoperative pain in cats was developed and represents a new tool for feline pain
management.
The purpose of the present study was to use this new pain…

▼ When dogs with cancer are no longer (or not at all) treated for their illness, a palliative treatment should be given to increase the wellbeing of the dog. Dogs express pain in many different ways, sometimes by very subtle changes in behaviour. A brochure was created to inform owners about dogs that suffer from pain due to cancer and how to recognize this pain.
A blinded cross-over study was performed on 6 dogs with untreated tumors comparing
Robenacoxib and carporal as a palliative therapy. These two NSAIDs were compared using three forms (scoring pain, quality of life and adverse events), filled in weekly by the owners of the dogs. During 4 weeks every dog received either carprofen or
Robenacoxib, they then had a wash-out period of one day without pain medication. Subsequently the other medication (either
Robenacoxib or carprofen) was given during the next 4 weeks.
When looking at the interim results, using a paired samples t-test and an independent samples t-test no significant differences between the two medications were found. Further research by examining more dogs is necessary to obtain more data. It is important to see whether or not a significant difference could be acquired between the medications in the future.

▼ Robenacoxib is a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug and a selective cyclooxygenase (COX) -2 inhibitor, registered for treatment of osteoarthritis and post-operative pain in dogs. In a randomized cross over investigator-blinded trial with client-owned dogs diagnosed with a form of cancer, we compare treatment with
robenacoxib versus carprofen. Adverse effects (AEs), pain and Quality of Life (QoL) are assessed to determine which drug is the better choice in palliative management of the canine cancer patient. In the pain study, dogs were treated 28 days with one NSAID, had a wash out period of 1 day and were treated 28 days with the other NSAID. Physical examination and blood analysis were performed during a clinic visit every two weeks and every week forms assessing AEs, pain and QoL were filled out by the owner.
This research project report discusses results of the first four patients participating in this pain study. Results in this paper are blinded, because of continuation of the study.
The first patient showed no differences between treatments and only mild AEs and changes in scores, which were most likely caused by the effects of radiation therapy. The second dog survived 6 weeks and showed a difference in the two periods of the pain study, which may have been an idiosyncratic reaction of the dog to the NSAID secondly used. The third dog survived 3 weeks, thus was only treated with one NSAID; AEs and poor scores were most likely caused by progression of the tumour. The fourth dog showed no differences between treatments; AEs and changes in scores were most likely related to other causes than treatment.
Recruitment of patients and use of the forms are discussed and recommendations are given for the continuation of the pain study.

During the last years, the interest and concerning on the analgesic efficacy in the post-operative period have increased. The ovariohysterectomy is an example of a surgery that results in moderate acute pain and constitutes a routine procedure in dogs, in need of an adjusted analgesic treatment.
Nowadays there are several scales that help recognizing and quantifying pain in animals.
The aim of this study consists in evaluating the analgesia promoted by the robenacoxib, a non steroidal anti-inflammatory, used in veterinary practice to treat acute pain and inflammation.
For this purpose, eleven healthy female mixed breed dogs were submitted to elective ovariohysterectomy. All animals were premedicated with medetomidine hydrochloride and anesthesia was induced with ketamine. Isoflurane was also used to maintain anesthesia.
The values of cardiac and respiratory frequencies, systolic arterial pressure, average arterial pressure and diastolic arterial pressure were registered during the surgical procedure to evaluate the hemodynamic changes in the most painful surgical moments. To evaluate the effects of postoperative analgesia were used the pain scale from the University of Melbourne and the…

Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs are an important part in the control of perioperative pain in cases of soft tissue surgery.
The aim of this study was to compare two anti-inflammatory drugs, the robenocoxib and meloxicam in perioperative analgesia in dogs undergoing ovarian hysterectomy.
Twenty bitches undergoing elective ovariohysterectomy without concomitant diseases, with an average age of 2.67 years and an average weight of 14.45 kg were included in the study and randomly separated into two groups. The first group received meloxicam in a dose of 0.2 mg / kg, the second group received robenacoxib in a dose of 0.2 mg/kg. The drugs were included in the groups as part of a multimodal analgesic protocol.
Pain assessment was performed intra-operatively by recording the following parameters: intraoperative heart rate, respiratory rate and level of consumption of isoflurane. Pain assessment was performed post operatively using the modified visual pain scale from the University of Colorado. A post surgical evaluation was performed at 0H and 2H.
No statistically significant differences were at any time register during and after surgery for each parameter recorded. Results for times 0 and 2 hours post-surgery for the treated group with robenocoxib were 7.3 and 4.1 respectively. For meloxicam group was 8.1 and 4 respectively. There were no differences with statistical significance between the two groups.
