Rel/NF-κB family of transcription factors. Identification of genes or signal transduction pathways that contribute to
v-
Rel transformation provide insight into the mechanisms of tumorigenesis by
Rel/NF-κB proteins. In these studies, the contribution of TGF-β/Smad signaling to
v-
Rel transformation was assessed. TGF-β/Smad signaling regulates several cellular processes, including growth, differentiation, and apoptosis and has been implicated in a number of different cancers. Using microarray technology and Northern blot analysis, key components of the TGF-β/Smad pathway (tgf-β2 and tgf-β3 ligands, TGF-β type II receptor, and receptor-activated smad3) were identified with upregulated mRNA expression in
v-
Rel-transformed fibroblasts and lymphoid cells relative to control cells. A corresponding change in their protein levels was also observed. Further analysis revealed elevated levels of the phosphorylated, active form of Smad3, which correlated with its increased DNA-binding activity in
v-
Rel transformed cells. In contrast, the overexpression of c-
Rel resulted in little to no alteration in the RNA and protein expression of members of the TGF-β/Smad pathway. Further studies demonstrated that elevated TGF-β/Smad signaling is required for the transforming ability of
v-
Rel. Blocking TGF-β signaling with a kinase inhibitor of TGF-β type I receptor inhibited the activation of Smad3 and dramatically reduced the ability of
v-
Rel transformed cells to form colonies in soft agar. Overexpression of a constitutively active form of Smad3 in the inhibitor-treated cells restored their ability to form colonies in soft agar close to the levels seen in untreated cells. Additional experiments with dominant negative Smad3 also revealed its ability to hinder the oncogenic potential of
v-
Rel. In complementary experiments, a stimulatory effect on
v-
Rel transformation was observed with cells treated with recombinant TGF-β2 ligand or overexpressed with wild-type Smad3. Taken together, these studies demonstrate that TGF-β signaling is crucial for the transformation potential of
v-
Rel and is primarily mediated by Smad3 activity.

▼ I äldre svenska bisatser förekommer en rad ledföljdstyper som helt saknas i modernt språkbruk; dels satser där det finita verbet återfinns efter ett objekt och/eller ett infinit verb, s.k. verbfinala strukturer, dels övrig OV-ledföljd där objektet men inte det infinita verbet påträffas högre upp i satsen. Syftet med denna uppsats är att förklara hur och varför bruket av och grammatiken bakom dessa ledföljdstyper förändras i äldre svenska. Materialet består av 32 texter skrivna mellan ca 1290 och 1756 inom ett äldre svenskt språkområde. Ur dessa texter har 4178 bisatser excerperats och analyserats med hjälp av variationslingvistisk metod. Utifrån de empiriska undersökningarnas resultat och uppsatsens teoretiska ställningstaganden – en kombination av generativ grammtik och variationslingvistik – postuleras att det vid två tillfällen i svenskans OV-historia inträffar en förändring i grammatiskt system. Den första sker vid brytpunkten mellan äldre och yngre fornsvenska, då flera typer av nominalfrasobjekt med substantiviskt huvudord förlorar möjligheten att flytta till vänster om sitt huvudverb. Den andra inträffar troligen vid slutet av äldre nysvenska, då även övriga objekt erhåller flyttningsrestriktioner. Ledföljdsvariationen i äldre nysvenska texter beskrivs också som avhängig två distinkta system, vilka antas vara relaterade till formalitetsgrad. Flyttning av particip och infinita verb betraktas som karaktäristiskt för ett mer formellt system. En annan empirisk iakttagelse är att det över tid sker en frekvensförskjutning från OV-ledföljd som är gångbar oavsett satsnivå till bisatsspecifika och verbfinala strukturer. Detta betraktas emellertid inte som relaterat till själva OV-systemet, utan som en konsekvens av att det finita verbets position förändras. Under äldre fornsvensk tid flyttar en bisats finita verb nästan alltid från V° till I°, vilket osynliggör att objektet kan flytta till vänster om det finita verbets basposition i VP. Under yngre fornsvensk och äldre nysvensk tid försvinner flyttning av finit verb succesivt i äldre texter, och bisatsspecifika ledföljder blir således vanligare. Utvecklingen uppvisar också ett diakront samband med det händelseförlopp som traditionellt har associerats med förlusten av V-till-I-flyttning; framväxten av en modern svensk af-ledföljd i bisats.

Rel is the acutely oncogenic member of the NF-[kappa]B family of transcription
factors and transforms cells through the altered regulation of pathways normally
controlled by cellular NF-[kappa]B. Initial studies revealed that expression of
v-
Rel results in
the strong and sustained activation of the ERK and JNK MAP kinases. This induction is
critical for the
v-
Rel transformed phenotype, as suppression of MAPK activity with
chemical inhibitors or siRNA severely limited colony formation of
v-
Rel transformed cell
lines of hematopoietic origin. However, signaling must be maintained within a certain
range in these cells, as strong additional activation of either pathway through expression
of constitutively active MKK mutants also attenuated the transformed phenotype.
Studies in primary spleen cells revealed that MAPK signaling is also required for the
early stages of
v-
Rel-mediated transformation. However, constitutive MAPK activity
further enhanced the transformation efficiency of
v-
Rel in primary cells. These studies,
as well as analogous experiments in DT40 cells, indicate distinct requirements for MAPK activity at different stages of
v-
Rel-mediated transformation. The proto-oncoprotein, c-
Rel, only weakly activates ERK and JNK signaling compared to
v-
Rel. Importantly,
elevated MAPK activity enhanced transformation by c-
Rel, indicating that the ability of
v-
Rel to induce MAPK signaling is a major contributor to its oncogenic potential. Taken
together, this work demonstrates an important role for ERK and JNK activity in
transformation by
v-
Rel.
Additional studies examined mechanisms through which MAPK activity is
regulated in
v-
Rel transformed cells. Feedback regulation of the ERK activator, MKK1,
at T292 was shown to limit ERK activation in
v-
Rel transformed cells, preventing the
detrimental effects of constitutive activity. This result is the first indication that this
regulation may have a role in the maintenance of transformation. Further, several
v-
Rel induced
cytokines were identified that activate ERK and JNK signaling in
v-
Rel
transformed cells, revealing one means by which
v-
Rel-dependent transcriptional changes
lead to MAPK activation. These studies demonstrate the integration of multiple
mechanisms in achieving the optimal levels of MAPK activity that are essential for
v-
Rel-mediated transformation.

▼ Dit rapport bevat het onderzoek naar de effecten van verstoringen in de beschikbaarheid van infrastructuur voor het netwerkontwerp van stedelijk openbaar vervoer. In een stad gebeurt van alles waardoor de dienstuitvoering van openbaar vervoer geregeld tijdelijk verstoord raakt. De ene keer is zo’n verstoring minder erg dan de andere keer. Er is nog weinig bekend over de effecten van mogelijke verstoringen voor het netwerkontwerp. Daarom zijn deze effecten onderzocht in de analyse die is uitgevoerd. De effecten komen tot uitdrukking in kosten, betrouwbaarheid en robuustheid van een dienstennetwerk. Gezien het grote verschil in infrastructuurdichtheid van weg- en railgebonden vervoer in een stad, is gekozen om deze twee vervoertechnieken te onderzoeken en hun effecten als gevolg van de verstoringen te vergelijken met elkaar. Verwacht wordt namelijk dat de dienstuitvoering van een bussysteem flexibeler is dan die van een tramsysteem en dat dit doorwerkt op de effecten van de verstoringen. In het transportsysteem grijpen verstoringen op drie niveau’s aan: het niveau van de verplaatsingen, het niveau van de vervoerdiensten en het niveau van de verkeerdiensten. Gekozen is om te kijken naar de verstoringen in de verkeersdiensten, dus naar de beschikbaarheid van de infrastructuur. De verstoringen in de beschikbaarheid van infrastructuur waarvan het effect voor de dienstuitvoering berekend is, zijn de volgende: § Kleine verstoringen zoals ongevallen § Weersinvloeden waarbij onderscheid is gemaakt naar storm, ijzel, sneeuw en onweer § Grote verstoringen zoals onderhoudswerkzaamheden aan de infrastructuur Van deze typen verstoringen is hun impact bepaald op het infra- en dienstennetwerk van een bus- en een tramsysteem. Om de effecten van de verstoringen te kunnen berekenen, is gekozen om de verstoringen te simuleren waartoe een model is gemaakt. In dit model is het netwerkontwerpniveau gegeven door 5 dienstennetwerkvarianten die in de analyse worden vergeleken met elkaar. Die dienstennetwerken hebben een ring-radiale structuur waarbij de ontwerpvraag de optimale positie van de ringlijn is. De eerste variant heeft geen ringlijn, de tweede een ringlijn dicht bij het centrum,...., en de vijfde variant heeft een ringlijn aan de buitenkant van de stad langs de uiteinden van de radiaallijnen. Het model berekent uit een kansverdeling voor tijdsduur en frequentie van elk type verstoring de impact van de verstoring op het infra- en dienstennetwerk. Het beschikbare infra- en dienstennetwerk zijn dus stochastisch. Met een toedelingsmethode (alles-of-niets) zijn de reizigers vervolgens toegedeeld over het gerealiseerde dienstennetwerk. Uit de verplaatsingen van de reizigers en de routes van de
OV-diensten in het netwerk zijn de reiskosten, kosten voor niet gemaakte verplaatsingen en de exploitatiekosten berekend. Hiermee zijn de effecten bekend voor het netwerkontwerpniveau. ▼ Hurricane Sandy critically damaged the Atlantic coast of New Jersey in the fall of 2012. This was recorded as the largest storm to hit the Atlantic Ocean, which was manifested by its destruction on the homes and communities of those along the coastline. Contamination of surrounding waters due to this natural disaster was of great interest. The re-suspension of land-based pollution is proposed to make these contaminants more bioavailable to coastal species, such as Atlantic menhaden (
Brevoortia tyrannus), which are a crucial biomonitoring species through their ecological and economic uses. A proposed increase of body burdens in Atlantic menhaden could affect human health through toxicity in the aquatic food chain via consumption of other marine species.
Atlantic menhaden were caught off the shores of the Atlantic coast surrounding New Jersey and were dissected for their raw fish oil, which was extracted from the oily-natured skin and studied with fluorescence spectroscopy to identify the presence of possible contaminants, such as polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs). Different levels of PAH-like substances were identified in catches from 2011, 2012, and 2013. Genomic analysis was used to study the effects of PAH-like substances on cancer-related genes, specifically proto-oncogene
v-
Rel (
V-Rel Avian Reticuloendotheliosis Viral Oncogene Homolog). The presence of polymorphisms in
v-
Rel was studied in the previously caught Atlantic menhaden exposed to PAH pollution along the coastline of New Jersey.
Analysis of the results indicated that there was no statistical difference in PAH-like compound concentrations or fluorescence patterns of raw fish oils collected before and after Hurricane Sandy. Excitation-Emission Matrix Scanning (EEMS) scans of raw fish oil from catches exposed to high amounts of PAH-like substances showed strong fluorescent signals yet few isomers and high genetic relatedness via gel electrophoresis analysis. EEM scans of raw fish oil with low and decreased fluorescence signals showed prominent bands with extreme variability, resulting in evident polymorphisms. It was found that high PAH concentration samples were associated together with low
v-
Rel variability and low PAH concentration samples were associated together with high
v-
Rel variability.

▼ Public health researchers, practitioners and policy makers are increasingly trying to uncover, quantify and address health disparities, which are differences in health outcomes among population subgroups (Nepaul et al., 2007). Health disparities are understood to be the consequences of differences in care, the health services infrastructure, and information systems available to persons by virtue of their gender, race, ethnicity, education level, etc. (U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, 2011; Institute of Medicine, 2009). In the United States, we commonly study health disparities occurring across racial and ethnic groups, requiring the collection of race, ethnicity and language data in order to determine the existence and/or the extent to which health disparities are occurring (Carter-Pokras et al., 2002; Thorlby et al., 2011). However, this information is not always easily collected, if collected at all. In order for public health agencies to address health disparities in their communities, they must first know whether disparities exist and whom they affect. Therefore, accurate reporting of race, ethnicity and primary language (
REL) data is necessary to properly identify, describe and investigate potential health disparities in the community of concern.
This study explored perceptions of race, ethnicity, and primary language data collection in healthcare settings, and more specifically the attitudes and beliefs that people have when they are asked to self-report this information. The study was conducted in collaboration with the University of Connecticut’s Health Disparities Institute. The goal of this study was to develop recommendations to encourage individuals in the state of Connecticut to self-report this information, and increase their level of comfort when requested to do so in a healthcare setting.

OV-chipkaart. De narratologie en semiotiek vormen de basis voor het onderzoek, dat bestaat uit een vooronderzoek (ter ondersteuning van de vraagstelling: een contextanalyse en een literatuuronderzoek), een semiotische analyse van het filmpje, een interview met de bedenker/maker van het filmpje en een interview met de doelgroep (studenten). Door connotaties van studenten te vergelijken met het doel en gemaakte keuzes van de makers (waarmee ze bepaalde connotatie willen oproepen) kan geconcludeerd worden of de boodschap is aangekomen.

▼ Gut-associated lymphoid tissues such as Peyer’s patches (PP) are inductive sites for immune response in the intestine. Unlike other peripheral lymphoid tissues, gut-associated lymphoid tissues lack afferent lymphatics and can directly sample mucosal antigens by specialized epithelial cells in the follicular associated epithelia (FAE), known as M cells. M cells derive from Lgr5+ intestinal stem cells in intestinal crypts, where the daughter cells of Lgr5+ cells differentiate into M cells after stimulation from the cytokine receptor activator of nuclear factor-κB ligand (RANKL). RANKL is produced by stromal cells within the sub-epithelial dome (SED) residing below the FAE. The transcytosis of antigens across the FAE by M cells is an important initial step in the induction of efficient mucosal immune responses against certain pathogenic bacteria as well as the commensal bacterial flora. However some pathogens, for example orally-acquired prions, may also exploit M cells to infect the host. M cells have been implicated in the uptake of orally acquired prions from the gut lumen. After oral exposure, the accumulation of prions in PP is important for their efficient spread to the nervous system. Previous studies have also shown that pathogen-induced inflammation increases M cell density and this effect can be mimicked by exogenous administration of RANKL. This has led to the hypothesis tested in this thesis that inflammation-related enhancement of M cell differentiation aids the delivery of prions into the lamina propria of villi. The administration of RANKL resulted in increased M cell density in the gut epithelium of mice. Consequently, RANKL treatment enhanced the accumulation of orally-administered prions in PP, decreased disease incubation time and increased prion disease susceptibility. These data indicate the importance of M cells in prion disease pathogenesis and highlight the potential of M cells as vaccine targets against prion disease. The fate and terminal differentiation of distinct intestinal epithelial cell lineages from their uncommitted precursors is dependent on their intrinsic expression of one or more specific transcription factors during their development. Alongside inducing M cell differentiation, RANKL stimulation can also induce the nuclear translocation of the NF-κB transcription factor subunit c-Rel. A comparison of the genes encoding the individual NF-κB subunits c-Rel, Rel-A and Rel-B revealed that they were expressed at the mRNA level in the FAE and by M cells. A c-Rel-deficiency in mice did not influence the expression of RANKL or RANK in PP. The subsequent induction of M cell maturation in the FAE was also unaffected in, indicating that c-Rel is dispensable for the RANKL-mediated differentiation and functional maturation of M cells. The factors implicated in Lgr5+ intestinal stem cell proliferation and their differentiation into M cells are poorly understood. ▼ Diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (DLBCL) is the most common form of non-Hodgkin’s B- cell lymphoma, accounting for about 30% of these lymphomas in the United States. Large-scale genome analyses of DLBCL have identified mutations in the related histone acetyltransferases (HATs) p300 and CBP in approximately 15% of patient samples and patient-derived cell lines. The research presented herein characterizes two human DLBCL cell lines, RC-K8 and SUDHL2, which express C-terminally truncated HAT domain-deficient p300 proteins, p300ΔC-1087 and p300 p300ΔC-820, respectively. It is shown that p300ΔC-820 localizes to sites of active transcription in the nucleus, interacts with NF-κB transcription factor REL, weakly enhances REL-dependent transactivation, and has a half-life similar to wild-type p300. Results demonstrate that knockdown of p300ΔC-820 in SUDHL2 cells reduces cell proliferation in vitro. In RC-K8 cells, p300ΔC-1087 suppresses expression of the NF-κB target genes A20 and IκBα, both of which are cytotoxic when overexpressed in RC-K8 cells. Microarray analysis of p300ΔC1087 knockdown compared to wild-type RC-K8 cells indicated that p300ΔC-1087 suppresses an NF-κB gene expression program and activates a MYC gene expression program in RC-K8 cells. Bioinformatic analysis demonstrated that cancer cell lines— regardless of tissue type—with truncating p300 mutations have altered expression of a MYC target gene set as compared to cancer cell lines with wild-type p300/CBP. Taken together, this research indicates that p300 truncations contribute to cell growth in DLBCL by modifying the transcriptional output of two lymphoid cell-specific oncoproteins, NF- κB and MYC, to optimal levels and suggests that p300 truncating mutations similarly modify the activity of oncogenic drivers in other cancer cell types. Based on this work, p300 truncation is proposed to represent a new class of oncogenic mutation that serves to optimize the activity of context-specific oncogenic transcription factors, and it is suggested that such oncogenic mutations be termed “cancer modifying” mutations.

▼ Since India became independent in August, 1947, the Indian government has pursued a 'neutralist' policy in world affairs which has raised some doubts and difficulties, more particularly in the Western non-communist camp. India's foreign policy, both generally and in its various manifestations, has been frequently subject to bitter criticism and has even been condemned as immoral and motivated by a pro-Communist bias. Such an analysis is, of course, entirely out of focus. It is hoped that this thesis will help dispel some of the doubts and clear away some of the misinterpretations concerning the policies that the Indian government has pursued on the world stage. Various aspects of Indian foreign policy have been discussed by a number of writers both in general and in specific degrees; however, to this writer's knowledge, no one has attempted to view India's foreign policy in the manner treated in this thesis. Within the limits placed by the proximity to the events discussed, this study tries to survey objectively India's foreign policy in the cold war.
Throughout this study India's foreign policy has been discussed in its various manifestations. A country's foreign policy naturally derives from a complex set of historical, geographic, economic and emotional factors, and thus the context within which Indian foreign policy was formulated and the determinants upon which it is based are examined in the first Chapter. Then in Chapter Two, which describes India's approach to the problem of security, are discussed the various efforts made by the Indian government to satisfy, within the bounds permitted by the country's resources, the strategic requirements of the State. Recognizing that India's real security depends on removing tension from the world, however, India has sought the removal of Western controls over dependent Afro-Asian peoples as a concrete step towards peace. The third Chapter discusses this, from India's initial out-spoken championship of the cause of dependent peoples to a more recent moderate approach caused by a realization that Western imperialism is a 'dead issue' and that Communist imperialism is the greater threat. In recognition that the division of the world into power blocs increases the chances of war, the Indian government has striven to ease tension through furthering the ideals of the United Nations Charter, as illustrated in Chapter Four by her opposition to power blocs and to alliances, her advocacy of disarmament, and her championship of Red China's right to a seat at the United Nations. Aware of the delicate peace existing between East and West and realizing that a world war could result from any dispute involving the rival interests of the two power blocs, India has sought to prevent such an occurrence through dealing with each issue on its intrinsic merits. India also understands that the only alternative to coexistence is co-destruction, and she has sought to instill this realization in both the Communist and non-Communist camps. ▼ Het doel van dit onderzoek is na te gaan hoe prijsprikkels invloed uitoefenen op de vervoerwijzekeuze van studenten en of de
OV-fiets een alternatief kan zijn voor het stedelijk openbaar vervoer. De aanleidingen hiervoor zijn dat de bereikbaarheid van De Uithof, met name via buslijn 12 tussen Utrecht CS en De Uithof, onder druk staat en de toenemende kosten van de
OV-studentenkaart. Vervanging van busritten door ritten met de fiets zorgen voor een kostenbesparing en leveren daarnaast maatschappelijke baten op. Paradoxaal genoeg reizen studenten op dit moment echter gratis met de bus, terwijl ze moeten betalen voor een eigen fiets of
OV-fiets. Uit de resultaten blijkt dat het gratis of tegen een klein bedrag beschikbaar stellen van de
OV-fiets voor studenten een bijdrage kan leveren aan het verbeteren van de bereikbaarheid van De Uithof. Naar verwachting zullen op termijn hoe dan ook infrastructurele aanpassingen moeten worden gedaan om haar bereikbaarheid te waarborgen. Mogelijk is een
OV-fiets of deelfietsensysteem voor studenten kosteneffectiever dan bijvoorbeeld een station op De Uithof of een tweede Uithoftram door de binnenstad. Daarom is het van belang om dit initiatief op te nemen als één van de te onderzoeken alternatieven.

Barrett’s esophagus (BE) is a metaplastic condition
where normal squamous epithelium of the esophagus is replaced with
columnar epithelium which contains goblet cells. Radiofrequency
endoscopic ablation (RFA) of BE is a relatively new procedure, with
already proven safety and efficacy profile, in the complete
eradication of BE (CR-IM). The aim of this study was to present our
data regarding the utilization of RFA in the treatment of
metaplastic and dysplastic BE. The basic goal was to evaluate the
role of post RFA treatment in the term of BE recurrence prevention.
We also evaluated morphologic structure of neosquamous epithelium
(NSE) obtained from biopsy samples and processed on electron
microscopy. The data indicated that in patients with long segment
BE and hiatal hernia>3 cm, post RFA Nissen fundoplication has
better protective effect than medical treatment. The morphologic
structure of NSE showed presence of dilated intercellular spaces,
which were present in higher extent in those patients who were
treated with medications. To conclude, RFA procedure is safe and
effective in the treatment of patients with BE. In selected
patients antireflux surgery may be offered as a standard treatment
due to its protective nature over NSE.

Od trenutka nastanka Čemberlinove teoreme o višku
kapaciteta, literatura koja se bavi monopolističkom konkurencijom
bila je prevashodno zaokupljena pitanjem koje se tiče optimalnosti
proizvedene količine i broja varijeteta proizvoda primenjujući
analizu parcijalne ili opšte ravnoteže. Nasuprot ranijim
zaključcima koji su broj proizvoda kojim rezultuje tržišni proces
tretirali kao preveliki sa stanovišta društvenog blagostanja,
Diksit-Stiglic-ov model bio je jedan od prvih koji nam je ponudio
suprotno tumačenje. Modelirajući potrošačevu ljubav prema
raznovrsnosti, ovaj model opšte ravnoteže pokazuje, u jednom dosta
opštem kontekstu, pod kojim uslovima možemo očekivati da tržište
proizvede optimalan rezultat. Upravo je to razlog zbog čega je ovaj
model postao neka vrsta repera u oblasti. Nakon ovog rezultata lako
je bilo zamisliti situacije u kojima postoji preveliki i premali
broj varijeteta proizvoda u odnosu na društveno-optimalni. Pored
toga, čak i u slučaju da je moguće utvrditi da li raznovrsnost
treba da bude veća ili manja, model je ukazao na činjenicu da
postoji problem sa regulacijom koja u datim okolnostima verovatno
ne bi mogla da bude neutralna. Ono što želimo da pokažemo u radu
tiče se uticaja ograničene racionalnosti potrošača na njegovu
ljubav prema raznovrsnosti u okvirima Diksit-Stiglic-ovog modela.
Veći izbor bi trebalo da bude poželjan osim u slučaju da kreira
dodatne troškove za potrošača koji se duguju njegovoj ograničenoj
racionalnosti. Implikacije ovakvog gledanja na problem pružaju nam
neke nove uvide. Jedan od njih je da bi regulacija trebalo da
poprimi potpuno drugačiji oblik od onog koji se uglavnom predlaže u
literaturi.

▼ The performance of the NS and ProRail is measured by, among others, passenger punctuality. With the introduction of the OV-chipkaart (the smart card of the Dutch public transport) new data of passengers became available. Therefore the NS developed a new method of calculating passenger punctuality. Based on the check-in and checkout locations and the check-in time, for every passenger a promised journey (in Dutch: Reisbelofte) can be determined. This promised journey is the travel options with the earliest arrival time. Based on the realisation data of the trains and the checkout time, the delay of every passenger can be calculated. In this method of calculation more than 20 assumptions are made. In this research all assumptions are analysed. If possible the impact of each assumption on the passenger punctuality is calculated. The result is a possible error of approximately 2 percentage points. To improve the passenger punctuality two models describing passenger punctuality were analysed as well. The first model is developed at ProRail and the NS, the second model is proposed in this research. Both models try to describe passenger punctuality based on process indicators: performance indicators of the business unit Transport control and Traffic control. For both models the correlations between the various indicators are calculated. The results are comparable and for both models the strongest correlations are only moderate at best. The process indicators are focussed on delayed or cancelled trains while passenger punctuality describes delays of passengers. In a case study of a smaller area of the Dutch rail network, every correlation is calculated again. Some results differ significantly from the correlations in the entire rail network. This implies that localised steering to improve passenger punctuality might be more effective.

▼ Recentelijk is besloten de Noord/Zuidlijn aan te leggen als uitbreiding van het Amsterdamse metronet. Deze metrolijn loopt van het Buikslotermeerplein in Amsterdam-Noord via het Centraal Station naar het station Zuid/WTC. Parallel aan dit tracé !open een aantal tramlijnen, waarvan het gebruik waarschijnlijk door de Noord/Zuidlijn beYnvloed zal worden. Tevens wordt het gebied rand de snelweg A10-zuid ontwikkeld in het kader van het Masterplan Zuidas. De aanleg van de Noord/Zuidlijn en de ontwikkeling van de Zuidas hebben een grote invloed op de vraag naar en het gebruik van openbaar vervoer in Amsterdam. Gezien deze ontwikkelingen is er behoefte aan meer informatie over de noodzakelijkheden en mogelijkheden tot het aanpassen van het lijnennet. In dit rapport worden drie alternatieven gemaakt om ideeën te genereren voor een nieuw openbaarvervoernet. Het eerste alternatief is een aanpassing van een door het projectbureau Noord/Zuidlijn ontwikkelde variant op het huidige netwerk. Dit alternatief wordt dan ook als referentie-alternatief gebruikt. De aanpassingen hebben vooral betrekking op de ontwikkeling van de Zuidas. Het tweede alternatief is gebaseerd op de stedelijke structuur van Amsterdam, dat voornamelijk uit radialen en tangenten bestaat. Ook bij dit alternatief liggen de belangrijkste veranderingen in het gebied rand de Zuidas. Het derde alternatief wordt ontworpen aan de hand van de door de TU Delft ontwikkelde Systed-methode voor het ontwerpen van stedelijk openbaar vervoer. Hierbij worden eigenschappen van het te onderzoeken stedelijk gebied vertaald naar een eenvoudig schema bestaande uit lijnen en knopen. De eigenschappen en route van deze lijnen bepalen de uiteindelijke vormgeving van het ontwerp. De evaluatie van de alternatieven op basis van reistijdvergelijkingen en materieelinzet Ievert een aantal opvallende conclusies op met betrekking tot delen van het netwerk. De belangrijkste conclusie is het verschijnsel dat de metrolijn een sterke wisselwerking heeft met kruisende tramlijnen. Er vinden dus vee! overstappen plaats tussen metro's en aan- en afvoerverzorgende tramlijnen. Daarentegen neemt de Noord/Zuidlijn het grootste gedeelte van de vervoersstroom van de parallel lopende tramlijnen over. Van de drie lijnen die in de huidige situatie volgens het tracé van de Noord/Zuidlijn !open hoeft er slechts een gehandhaafd te worden. Een hierop volgende conclusie is dat die ene lijn die overblijft wei degelijk een functie behoudt naast de metrolijn. Het toevoegen van een buslijn langs het tracé van de Oostlijn blijkt in de berekeningen voldoende gevuld te zijn. Hieruit wordt het verschil in functie tussen een verbindende en een ontsluitende lijn goed zichtbaar. De metrolijnen vervullen een belangrijke verbindende functie. Dit komt voornamelijk door de grote afstanden binnen Amsterdam in combinatie met de lage gemiddelde snelheden van het bus- en tramnet, waardoor het reizen met de bus of de tram over lange afstand vee! ongunstiger is dan het reizen met de metro, ondanks een eventuele omweg. Several lines of evidence implicate MIXL1 in hematopoietic transformation: (i) Aberrant MIXL1 expression is seen in human CML ( Chronic Myelogenous Leukemia) in blast crisis, AML (Acute myelogenous leukemia), B cell lymphomas and pediatric ALL (Acute lymphocytic leukemia). (ii) Retroviral transduction of Mixl1 induces AML in murine models. Nonetheless, mechanisms underlying MIXL1 mediated proliferative, survival advantages are unknown.
The goal of my studies is to understand if and how aberrant MIXL1 expression contributes to leukemogenesis. As a first step, I sought to determine transcriptional targets of MIXL1. Using MIXL1 overexpression lines established in the human myelomonocytic leukemia cell line, U937, I performed global chromatin immunoprecipitation coupled sequencing (ChIP-Seq), expression profiling studies I identified several putative targets. Of these, the proto-oncogene c-
REL was an important target. Both ectopically expressed and endogenous MIXL1 bound
REL promoters in myelogenous leukemia cells. Furthermore, cREL was induced under MIXL1 over-expression conditions in the leukemic cell line U937. Targeted shRNA mediated knockdown of endogenous MIXL1 in AML cell lines down regulated
REL expression.

REL the cellular homolog of the viral oncogene
v-
rel encoded by the oncogenic reticuloendotheliosis retrovirus, is a member of the Nf-κB/
Rel gene family. c-
REL transcriptionally activates proliferation and immune response and represses apoptosis through upregulation of anti-apoptotic genes. c-
REL plays a critical role in hematopoietic differentiation. It is required for B-cell differentiation, and dendritic cells to activate T cells. In the myeloid lineage, c-
REL is critical for macrophage mediated innate immunity. My findings suggest that transcriptional up regulation of
REL by MIXL1, therefore would promote survival or proliferation through activation of the Nf-κB pathway in AML cells. Consistent with these established activities of c-
REL, expression of two anti-apoptotic genes BCL2A1 and BCL2L1 increased under MIXL1 over-expression conditions and decreased under conditions of MIXL1 knockdown by targeted shRNA in U937 cells. In summary, my studies identify c-
REL to be a novel mediator of MIXL1-induced survival signals in leukemia.

▼ The incidence of gonococcal and pneumococcal infections remains high in developing countries and is increasing in many parts of the world. The need not only for treatment of the individual but also for control of the diseases at a community level is acute but the selection of appropriate treatments has become a complicated issue by the ability of Neisseria gonorrhoeae and Streptococcus pneumoniae to develop resistance to antibiotics. This PhD thesis investigates mechanisms related to horizontal gene transfer and growth arrest in N. gonorrhoeae and S. pneumoniae. The first part of the thesis is devoted to the study of natural transformation in N. gonorrhoeae and describes the procedures that have lead to the expression, purification and biochemical characterization of ComE, ComA and DprA, three proteins involved in the uptake and processing of environmental DNA. The second part of the thesis describes the structural characterization by X-ray crystallography of S. pneumoniae RelBE2, a chromosomally-encoded type II toxin-antitoxin system that has been linked to translation moderation and growth arrest under starvation conditions, and proposes a model for its regulation.

▼ Het doel van dit onderzoek is in kaart te brengen welke mobiliteitsbehoeften er zijn onder inwoners van kleine kernen en welke mobiliteitsvraag er specifiek voor het openbaar vervoer is. Het is een case-study in de gemeente Hollands Kroon. Ook komen in dit onderzoek mogelijke oplossingen vanuit het
OV-beleid en RO-beleid aan de orde. Aanleiding tot dit onderzoek is het verdwijnen van het reguliere openbaar vervoer in kleine kernen. Kleine kernen hebben te maken met demografische krimp. Voorzieningen verdwijnen doordat het draagvlak afneemt. Het wegtrekken van voorzieningen is voor de meeste inwoners geen probleem omdat zij beschikken over een auto. Er is echter een groep inwoners die afhankelijk is van het openbaar vervoer en in de problemen raakt wanneer ook het openbaar vervoer verdwijnt uit deze kleine kernen. Provincies bezuinigen op het openbaar vervoer omdat ze steeds minder subsidie (BDU) krijgen van het Rijk. Er moeten prioriteiten worden gesteld en als eerste wordt gesneden in het openbaar vervoeraanbod in gebieden waar de vraag gering is (onderkant van de
OV-markt). Inzicht in de behoeften van inwoners van kleine kernen kan bijdragen aan kennis voor mogelijke oplossingen. De bereikbaarheid van voorzieningen voor inwoners van kleine kernen kan op deze manier veilig worden gesteld. Aan de hand van het Needs-Opportunities-Abilities model van Vlek e.a. (1997) is de mobiliteitsbehoefte en mobiliteitsvraag vormgegeven. De mobiliteitsbehoefte bestaat uit de Needs (behoeften). De samenvoeging van Needs met Opportunities (gedragsmogelijkheden) en Abilities (gedragsvermogens) vormt tezamen de mobiliteitsvraag. De gedachte hierachter is dat een persoon zich wil verplaatsen om elders een activiteit te ontplooien (mobiliteitsbehoefte) maar om deze verplaatsing en activiteiten mogelijk te maken is een persoon afhankelijk van mogelijkheden en beperkingen.

▼ This study aims to predict the next journey of travelers by train based on
smart card data. After preprocessing raw data into features describing jour-
neys, the problem is framed as a sequence prediction instance. Domain
modelling issues such as the choice of alphabet, representation of time and
the definition of a sequence are discussed. A base alphabet is constructed,
and closed frequent pattern mining is proposed as a method of algorithmi-
cally extending it. The resulting data encodings are tested against a range
of established sequence prediction algorithms. Results show the All-Kth-
Order-Markov algorithm outperforms other algorithms by a margin. With
regard to pattern encoding, the results are somewhat inconclusive.

can induce big changes in the properties of the compounds.
Moreover, most transition-metal (TM) ions with partially filled
d-shells can manifest different spin multiplicity in the ground
state that is, different spin states. The identity of the ground
spin state and the analysis and description of close lying states
of different multiplicity is of crucial importance for the
understanding of the microscopic origin of the reactivity,

▼ Onchocerca volvulus is a filarial parasite transmitted to humans by female Simulium spp. black flies. Infection with this parasite can cause blindness and severe skin disease among humans in Africa and the Americas. Enzyme-linked Immunosorbent Assay serological testing of OV-16 antigen is a diagnostic tool for determining effective elimination of the parasite. Programs typically rely on OV–16 ELISA to evaluate the progress towards interruption and/or elimination of disease by mass drug distribution of ivermectin and vector larvicidal control efforts. As elimination grows closer, monoclonal antibody positive controls for OV-16 ELISA become important to develop for Onchocerca testing due to the limited availability of pooled sera positive controls. Recent evaluation of laboratory designed OV-16 ELISA coating antigen by the Unnasch Lab (University of South Florida) showed that polymorphisms occurred which may alter the ability of the humanized monoclonal antibody to recognize the cognate antigen. With this development, it was important to evaluate these polymorphisms and isolate them for further testing against the standardized monoclonal antibody and positive sera to determine the effects antigenic polymorphisms could have on diagnostic testing. Upon evaluation, the polymorphisms did influence signaling when testing the monoclonal antibody. However, little effect on the recognition of the antigen was seen when different isoforms were evaluated against sera from O. volvulus infected individuals. Data suggest that the epitope recognized by the synthetically produced monoclonal antibody is not immuno-dominant in infected individuals.

▼ This thesis deals with the alternation in the AB position of the finite and the non-finite verb in Old English, specifically, with the alternation finite verb-final vs. finite verb-non-final embedded clauses, and the alternation object–verb (OV) vs. verb–object (VO) alternation in the non-finite verb phrase. The central proposal is that information-structural factors underlie most of the Old English word order patterns, including these alternations. What influences the surface position of the finite verb in embedded clauses is the discourse status of the proposition. Verb-final clauses are pragmatically presupposed, while non-final verb position signals pragmatic assertion. The OV/VO alterantion does not reflect competing structures/grammars, but rather focus marking strategies on the VP material, reflected in VO orders. We therefore propose a multi-layered model of information-structure, according to which, topic/background-focus structures are represented at three different levels, whereby the following types of focus are distinguished: sentence focus, predicate focus and ‘new information’ focus. We also present a mechanism of their interaction and syntactic encoding in Old English. Two important insights emerge from this analysis. First, Old English is a discourse configurational language. Second, at least some discourse configurational languages do not syntactically mark each individual information-structural interpretation of sentence elements. It rather seems that the syntax reflexts IS marking of a larger constituent, leaving it to the context for specific resolutions.
Ova disertacija bavi se problemom alternacije u IZ poziciji finitnog i nefinitnog glagola u staroengleskom, preciznije, razlikom između zavisnih rečenica u kojima je finitni glagol u poslednjoj poziciji u klauzi, i onih u kojima se finitni glagol nalazi u višoj poziciji, kao i alternacijom u položaju nefinitnog leksičkog glagola u odnosu na objekat (objekat-glagol, naspram glagol-objekat). Osnovna hipoteza u radu jeste da su glavni redosledi reči u staroengleskom, uključujući i navedene alternacije, rezultat uticaja informacijsko-strukturalnih faktora. Položaj finitnog glagola u zavisnim rečenicama određen je diskursnim statusom propozicije. Rečenice s glagolom na poslednjem položaju u klauzi su pragmatski presuponirane, dok su one s glagolom u višoj pozicji asertivne. Što se tiče alternacije objekat-glagol/glagol-objekat, ona ne odražava sistem dvostruke gramatike, već način obeležavanja fokusa unutar glagolske fraze. ▼ A Internet consolidou as redes IP como uma infra-estrutura de transporte de dados barata e versátil, fato que justifica o crescente interesse nela como infraestrutura de transporte para outros serviços, como telefonia e TV. Esta convergência de serviços tem base no amadurecimento das tecnologias de redes de transmissão de dados, que proporcionou o aumento da velocidade de conexão residencial, tornando cada vez mais viável o uso de aplicações multimídia, inclusive em tempo real. Desta demanda de serviços convergentes, nasceu a digitalização da TV e, posteriormente, a possibilidade de transmissão pelas redes IP, conhecida como IPTV. Este trabalho analisa o cenário atual de IPTV para distribuição de conteúdo multimídia em redes de acesso privadas. Parte-se da necessidade de mecanismos de segurança para distribuição e controle do consumo das mídias digitais no sistema. O trabalho analisa, portanto, mecanismos para descrição inequívoca dos direitos que os usuários têm sobre o conteúdo adquirido, bem como a utilização de tecnologias para a transmissão do conteúdo de forma segura. O trabalho visa contribuir para a comunidade científica a partir da utilização de padrões abertos na especificação de um elemento de distribuição de vídeo em uma plataforma IPTV. Este elemento se baseia em políticas de uso da linguagem de expressão de direitos do MPEG-21 para reforçar os direitos de autoria e distribuição do conteúdo durante seu manuseio em toda a cadeia de negócios.
Internet consolidated IP networks as a versatile and accessible data transport infrastructure, thus justifying the growing interest on it as a transport network for several services, such as telephony and TV. The convergence leverages on the maturity of network technologies, responsible for the increasing availability of bandwidth for residential access, making the use of multimedia applications, including interactive ones, possible. From the demand for convergence, Digital TV has born, and later on, its transmission through IP networks, know as IPTV. This work analyzes current IPTV scenario for multimedia content distribution in the scope of private networks. It is based on the need for security mechanisms for digital content delivering and control of consumption in the system. Therefore it analyzes mechanisms for rights description, as well as security transmission of content. This work\'s contribution stems from the reutilization of open standards in the specification of a distribution broker in the IPTV environment. Such broker is based on the MPEG-21 digital rights description to enforce copyright of digital content during handling in the entire value chain.

▼ Aim: The aim of this study is to investigate factors that are involved in the survival and expansion of neoplastic clone in myelodysplastic syndromes although they are characterized by increased apoptosis of hemopoietic cells. This survival process leads to accumulation of immature cells (blasts) and disease progression to acute leukaemia. Introduction: In early stages of the disease the neoplastic clone do not present surviving advantages over the normal hemopoietic cells. The expansion of the MDS clone is achieved after an immune insult of the normal bone marrow. During disease progress mutations are accumulated that produce survival advantage and maturation arrest to the neoplastic clone. Survivin is an apoptosis inhibitor not expressed in normal cells but found expressed in neoplastic cells in various tumours and has been associated to cell proliferation and survival. Materials and Methods: One hundred and forty-two patients (87 males and 55 females) with median age 72 years as well as 53 healthy controls (22 males and 35 females) with median age 74 years were involved in the study. The expression of survivin was studied in the CD34+ cells of the bone marrow using real-time pcr. Mutation analysis was done to the survivin cDNA using Sanger’s method for direct sequencing. The levels of survivin in cell eluate from bone marrow CD34+ cell cultures were measured using ELISA(Cell Signalling Tecnology,Geneway Biotech, R&D). In addition the expression of genes involved in the apoptosis pathway and NFk-B pathway using commercially available cDNA microarrays(Taqman®).Results: We found that the survivin levels in the cell eluate from cell cultures of isolated CD34+ bone marrow cells from patients with high/intermediate-2 risk MDS had mean(±SD) value 536.37±159.208pg/ml while in the low/intermediate-1risk MDS the corresponding value was 177.58±58.87 pg/ml. In the control group the survivin levels were not detectable. The levels of survivin in the high/intermediate-2 group were statistically significantly higher than those in the low/intermediate-1 group (p<0.001).The expression of survivin (number of transcripts) was higher in MDS of high/intermediate-2 group than in MDS of low/intermediate-1 group (p<0.001). The expression of survivin in low/intermediate-1 was significantly higher than in the normal controls(p<0.001). Mutations were not detected in survivin gene with direct sequencing.No statistically significant difference was detected in the expression of the various genes of the microarray of the NFk-B pathway used among the various studied groups(p=0.2)The genes AIFM1, AKT1, APAF1, ATM,BAD, BBC3, BID, CASP3, CASP7, CASP8, CASP9, CYCS, DAPK3, DAXX,DFFA, DFFB, P53AIP1 that induce apoptosis were found overexpressed in the low/intermediate-1 group compared to the high/intermediate-2 group and normal controls(p<0.001)Conclusions: Survivin is overexpressed in MDS cells although these cells present increased apoptosis compared to the normal cells. ▼ L’objectif général de cette thèse a été d’approfondir la compréhension actuelle des bases génétiques et de la pathophysiologie de leucémies B agressives, à savoir deux sous-types de leucémie lymphoïde chronique (LLC) et la leucémie prolymphocytaire B (LPLB). La LLC, qui est la forme de leucémie adulte la plus fréquente en Occident, est caractérisée par une accumulation de lymphocytes B monoclonaux (CD20+, CD5+ and CD23+) dans le sang périphérique, la moelle osseuse ainsi que les organes lymphoïdes secondaires. La LLC est une maladie très hétérogène, où un large panel d’altérations génétiques mènent à des résultats cliniques variables. Le gain du bras court du chromosome 2 (gain 2p) est une anomalie chromosomique récurrente dans la LLC et d’autres cancers. Notre groupe avait décrit l’association du gain 2p avec la résistance aux traitements et des facteurs de mauvais pronostic comme l’IGHV non-muté et la délétion 11q. Des analyses cytogénétiques et moléculaires nous ont notamment permis d’identifier une région minimale de gain incluant entre autres les gènes XPO1 et REL. Dans la partie principale de ma thèse, l’analyse fonctionnelle du rôle de REL, par trois stratégies complémentaires d’inhibition pharmacologique, d’inactivation du gène et d’activation transcriptionelle, a permis l’identification de REL comme un acteur central de la survie cellulaire dans la LLC. De plus, j’ai développé plusieurs modèles cellulaires de LLC permettant la surexpression de n’importe quel gène, seul ou en combinaison, pour approfondir les études sur REL et XPO1, et identifier de potentielles coopérations oncogéniques menant au phénotype des LLC avec gain 2p. Enfin, nous avons analysé la hiérarchie et l’évolution clonale des anomalies chromosomiques dans les LLC avec gain 2p. La LLC avec délétion 17p est associée avec une absence de réponse aux traitements standards et donc avec la pire issue clinique possible. Nous avons montré que la délétion 17p et le gain 8q24 ont un impact synergique sur le résultat clinique, et que les patients ayant cette LLC « double-hit » ont un pronostic particulièrement défavorable. La LPLB est un lymphome agressif, habituellement résistant aux chimio-immunothérapies standard, et défini par la présence de prolymphocytes dans le sang périphérique excédant 55% des cellules lymphoïdes. Nous décrivons les aspects cytogénétiques et moléculaires d’une large cohorte de 34 cas de LPLB, ainsi que leurs réponses aux nouveaux inhibiteurs spécifiques in vitro. In fine, notre travail a permis une meilleure compréhension de la LLC et de la LPLB, et d’ouvrir la voie au développement de nouvelles stratégies thérapeutiques.

▼ Bachelor thesis Testing of Distance Protection introduces us to the issue of distance protection and its detailed principle. It deals with its individual elements and shows us different types of impedance characteristics of measuring elements. It describes a situation that occurs during a short circuit on a homogeneous line, then introduces us to a DC component compensation and discuss the effect of distance protection degrees. Among other things, it deals with the digital distance protections and settings of their characteristics. Finally the theoretical part evaluates advantages over other protections and advantages and disadvantages of distance protections themselves. Thesis will introduce the digital distance protection
REL 511 from the company ABB and characterizes its settings, parameters and connection to the testing equipment OMICRON CMC 256plus, which is used to control the protection via personal computer. Description of the programs OMICRON Test Universe and CAP 540 and their settings follows. This section can serve as a manual for future operators of
REL 511 protection. The work provides a suitable methodology for measuring the operating characteristics and uses this method in practice. Given the limited version of the OMICRON Test Universe, polygonal tripping characteristics are measured in the module "Distance" with the shot test. Evaluation of measurements is summarized at the end.

▼ Polydnaviruses (PDVs) are endosymbiotic viruses of parasitoid Hymenoptera. Their particles are injected together with the endoparasitoid’s eggs in the final lepidopteran host, where the viral genes are transcribed. The expressed proteins mediate a series of changes in the host’s physiology, such as developmental delay and immune suppression, thus protecting the hymenopteran embryos from host reactions.The objective of this thesis was to study members of the Ankyrin-repeat protein family, Ank proteins, of the CcBV polydnavirus (Cotesia congregata bracovirus), which lives as a provirus in the hymenopteran species Cotesia congregata, a wasp known to parasitize larvae of the lepidopteran Manduca sexta. CcBV Ank proteins are homologous to ΙκΒ molecules and, therefore, could function as inhibitors of Rel/NF-κΒ transcription factors. Six out of nine CcBV ank genes were subcloned to lepidopteran-specific expression vectors and expressed in insect cells in order to make a comparison among their encoded products. Using transient transfections and subsequent Western immunoblotting, expression levels of the different Ank proteins were found to be unequal, whereas according to immunofluorescence experiments, their subcellular distribution varied among the different family members and often among different cells expressing the same protein. Thus, both the expression levels and the subcellular distribution of CcBV Ank proteins seem to be under regulation.Employing functional assays we tested the effect of Ank proteins on Rel/NF-κΒ transcription factors of the domesticated silkworm Bombyx mori in a lepidopteran cell line. Rel/NF-κΒ factors regulate the transcription of genes implicated in many aspects of the insect immune system, such as antimicrobial (antimicrobial peptide synthesis), antiparasitic (melanization, encapsulation and reactive intermediates production) and antiviral responses through the Imd and Toll signalling pathways. Therefore, it is hypothesized that inhibiting Rel/NF-κΒ factors and the corresponding Imd and Toll pathways of the lepidopteran host’s immune system is crucial for the endoparasitoid’s survival. In order to examine whether CcBV Ank proteins are indeed capable of inhibiting Rel/NF-κΒ factors, and given that the corresponding genes from C. congregata’s natural host M. sexta were unavailable, we used a heterologous system that includes the Trichoplusia ni Hi5 cell line and the transiently expressed silkworm Rel/NF-κΒ transcription factors, Relish1 and RelB. In luciferase assays we examined whether the six viral Ank proteins can suppress the transcription of a firefly luciferase reporter gene placed under the control of a promoter that bears Rel/NF-κΒ binding elements. Five out of the six examined proteins inhibited transcription factor R1d2, a constitutively active Relish1 mutant that participates in the Imd signalling pathway. ▼ The main objective of this research is to study the effect of removing a progesterone-releasing device out of the treatment of a regular GnRH-Prostaglandine-GnRH + P4 program, on follicular dynamics and oestrus synchronization in post-partum anoestrus cows, in the New Zealand situation.
Animals included in the experiment were selected from one farm, comprising a total of 22 Friesian dairy cows. Animals used for the experiment were multiparous, were not observed in heat, had no sign of being cyclic after two ultrasonographic examinations, and had no palpable evidence of uterine or ovarian abnormalities.
The cows were randomly allocated to receive a treatment following the GPG + P4 program or to receive a treatment following the same protocol but than without P4.
Ultrasonography was performed from day 0 to 8 once a day, and twice daily on days 9, 10 and 11, to record the presence and diameter of the dominant follicle (DF), and further follicular dynamics. Blood sampling took place on a daily basis in the coccygeal vein to measure P4 and E2 concentrations, and on a hourly basis at day 9 of the program, to follow LH-level dynamics. Fixed time AI was performed on the 10th day, 16 hours after the second GnRH injection.
No significant difference was found between the two treatment groups concerning the number of cows with a synchronised ovulation, although a trend showed a better synchronization after treatment with GPG+P4. The only significant difference (p=0.050) found in this experiment was the diameter of pre-ovulatory follicles after the first GnRH administration in the GPG+P4 group were (on average 3 mm) smaller than in the GPG group.
