▼ Esta tesis doctoral aborda el problema de la transmisión de vídeo, en sistemas de transmisión de televisión y vídeo bajo demanda en tiempo real y de videoconferencia, a través de redes IP, haciendo un énfasis especial cuando la conexión se establece entre dispositivos móviles. En la primera parte del trabajo se introduce la transmisión de video en redes IP y se hace especial incapie en la videoconferencia, pasando posteriormente a presentar el estado del arte en ambos ámbitos. Tratamos y estudiamos cuestiones relacionadas con la compresión de vídeo, la calidad del vídeo recibido, la calidad de experiencia (QoE), sistemas para la mejora de la QoE para la videoconferencia y también tecnologías, como Software Defined Networking (SDN), que nos permiten mejorar dinámicamente la configuración de los dispositivos de red para mejorar la QoE percibida por los usuarios finales. Posteriormente, pasamos a describir el diseño de la arquitectura y el protocolo para la transmisión de vídeo en redes IP, con distintos objetivos. Proponemos una arquitectura y un protocolo para mejorar la QoE de los usuarios en la transmisión de vídeo en Internet Protocol Television (IPTV). También lo hacemos para la transmisión de vídeo en Redes Heterogéneas usando HTML5. Por último proponemos un algoritmo y protocolo para mejorar QoE de la transmisión de vídeo en redes empleadas para la monitorización ambiental, basándonos principalmente en un estudio fundamentado en la codificación en función del color predominante de las imágenes del vídeo. En el siguiente capítulo pasamos a proponer una nueva arquitectura y un protocolo para la mejora de la calidad de experiencia de extremo a extremo (E2E QoE) de los usuarios conectados a una videoconferencia. Definimos el proceso del sistema, la máquina de estados finita y el algoritmo necesario para su correcto funcionamiento. Por último, presentamos las distintas pruebas experimentales que se han realizado para estudiar y determinar los mejores sistemas de codificación, y su comportamiento al utilizar tecnologías como SDN en redes de dispositivos móviles, en Redes Heterogéneas usando HTML5 y en videoconferencia.; This doctoral thesis faces the problem of video transmission, in television transmission systems and video on demand in real time, and video conferencing, in IP networks, making a special emphasis when the connection is established between mobile devices. In the first part of the work, video transmission in IP networks is introduced, and a special emphasis is made on videoconference, afterwards presenting the state of the art in both areas. We address several issues related to video compression, the quality of the video received, the Quality of Experience (QoE), systems for improving the QoE for videoconferencing and also technologies, such as Software Defined Networking (SDN), which allow us to dynamically improve the configuration of the network devices to improve the QoE perceived by the end users. ▼ Tato diplomová práce se zabývá syntézou HDR obrazu (High Dynamic Range Imaging). HDRI technologie se stala v posledních letech velice populární. Běžný a nejvíce používaný způsob vytvoření HDR obrazu je spojení více snímků stejné scény pořízených pomocí různých expozičních časů. Tato technika funguje správně pouze v případě, že se jedná o statickou scénu. Pokud je však ve scéně nějaký pohyb ve chvíli, kdy se pořizují snímky dané scény, výsledný HDR obraz obsahuje artefakty zvané jako duchy. V této práci jsou prezentovány základní informace o HDRI se zaměřením na metody odstraňující artefakty z HDR obrazů. Práce shrnuje již existující metody a dvě z nich - tzv. bitmap movement detection a histogram based ghost detection - představuje jako vhodné pro použití v real-time skládání HDR obrazu a pro implementaci na FPGA (Field-Programmable Gate Array) architektuře. Tyto metody jsou v práci implementovány v programovacím jazyce C++ jako prototypy. Navíc je zde navržena modifikace metody založené na výpočtu histogramu pro jednodušší a efektivnější implementaci na FPGA architektuře.; This thesis deals with a synthesis of high dynamic range imaging (HDRI). HDRI technology is becoming increasingly popular in recent years. A standard and most common approach to obtain an HDR image is a multiple exposures fusion that consists of combining multiple images of the same scene captured with different exposure times. This technique works perfectly only on static scenes. However, if there is a motion in the scene during a sequence acquisition, a resultant HDR image contains ghosting artefacts due to moving objects in the captured scene. Basic information about HDRI are presented in this thesis. The main focus is given to de-ghosting methods that are reviewed and two of them - a bitmap movement detection based on a median threshold and a histogram based ghost detection - are presented as suitable techniques for a real-time video capturing and implementation on FPGA (Field-Programmable Gate Array) architecture. These two methods are implemented in C++ programming language as prototypes. Moreover, a modification of histogram-based ghost detection is proposed, implemented and discussed to simplify its implementation on FPGA architecture. ▼ In present times when cameras are inexpensive and ubiquitous, processing vehicular traffic videos obtained from cameras on the road to obtain information is useful. These videos may be processed to extract information such as the volume of traffic on the road, to track particular vehicles in surveillance videos, to measure their speed in order to get traffic flow details, etc. The videos may be obtained from webcams perched on traffic signals, at the side of the road, or even from commuters who can take these videos using the camera on their cell-phones. These videos may then be processed on the devices recording them, to extract the required information. However, real-time video is usually generated at 30 frames per second (fps). If the recording device cannot process frames at a speed of at least 30 frames per second, it will customize the video by reducing its frame rate and the quality of the extracted information may decrease (QoI). If the user has a QoI requirement that will not be met even by reducing the frame rate on the recording device, the video must be streamed to a more powerful server which will be able to deliver the desired QoI by processing the video at the required frame rate. However, streaming these video files take up a lot of bandwidth. At times, the desired QoI may be met by lowering the frame rate, which may allow the video to be processed locally, or streaming the video at the reduced frame rate to a powerful server if the recording device cannot process the video at the lowered frame rate. This saves bandwidth as the video was either processed locally, or streamed to a powerful server at a reduced frame rate. The difference in the QoI arising due to the limitations in processing powers on various devices was analyzed. Videos obtained from various traffic cameras were processed to extract information about the number of vehicles passing by in a certain amount of time, the color of vehicles, the type of vehicle, and the speed of the vehicles passing by. The videos could be processed on a server (with higher processing power) or an android phone (with less processing power). If the QoI (accuracy, precision) requirement may be met on the phone, the video is locally processed. However, when a QoI requirement may not be met on the phone, the formulated mathematical models show that less than the original frame rate may be sent to the server to meet the same QoI requirement. This work implements a system that helps decide when the video file can be locally processed to get a desired QoI compared to when the video (maybe with a lower frame rate) has to be streamed to an alternate powerful server, thereby saving many resources such as bandwidth and the battery charge on the phone.

▼ HTML5 is helping to improve the everyday web sites and applications we use by enabling richer user interfaces, increased interactivity and reduced dependence on external plug-ins like Java and Flash. An area that we are yet to see HTML5 make an impact is real-time synchronous groupware applications.A series of studies were carried out to assess what impacts HTML5 is having on synchronous groupware applications. Investigations included how facilitation and coordination can be better supported by HTML5-based video conferencing, whether an integrated video conferencing solution can provide an experience as good as current solutions and how HTML5-based social media web applications compare with native mobile applications.A draft paper was written in which a study was carried out comparing an integrated video conferencing approach using HTML5 against an existing Skype based solution. Findings showed that the integrated solution provided a capable alternative to the Skype solution and was more convenient for users.A second draft paper focused on the mobile aspects of HTML5. A new HTML5-based mobile application was developed with social media features such as audio, video and image sharing. The new mobile web application was compared against popular native mobile applications. The study revealed that the HTML5-based mobile application provided a simple and effective way for group tasks to be completed away from the desk, however the experience was not rated as well as current native mobile applications due to the limitation of HTML5 for mobile devices.A final journal style draft paper focused on a study that was carried out to determine whether integrated HTML5-based video conferencing could offer better facilitation and coordination support in synchronous groupware applications. The findings showed that integrating HTML5 video conferencing into a groupware application can successfully support facilitation and coordination during the decision making process. The journal style draft paper also covered the studies from the first two draft papers.Overall, the findings showed that HTML5 can offer capable solutions to existing plug-in or external application based solutions although there is still more refinement required until it can offer solutions that offer higher quality and stability to existing applications. ▼ As mobile devices continue to rise in popularity, advances in overall mobile device processing power lead to further expansion of their capabilities. This, coupled with the fact that many people suffer from low vision, leaves substantial room for advancing mobile development for low vision assistance. Computer vision is capable of assisting and accommodating individuals with blind spots or tunnel vision by extracting the necessary information and presenting it to the user in a manner they are able to visualize. Such a system would enable individuals with low vision to function with greater ease. Additionally, offering assistance on a mobile platform allows greater access. The objective of this thesis is to develop a computer vision application for low vision assistance on the Android mobile device platform. Specifically, the goal of the application is to reduce the effects tunnel vision inflicts on individuals. This is accomplished by providing an in-depth real-time video retargeting model that builds upon previous works and applications. Seam carving is a content-aware retargeting operator which defines 8-connected paths, or seams, of pixels. The optimality of these seams is based on a specific energy function. Discrete removal of these seams permits changes in the aspect ratio while simultaneously preserving important regions. The video retargeting model incorporates spatial and temporal considerations to provide effective image and video retargeting. Data reduction techniques are utilized in order to generate an efficient model. Additionally, a minimalistic multi-operator approach is constructed to diminish the disadvantages experienced by individual operators. In the event automated techniques fail, interactive options are provided that allow for user intervention. Evaluation of the application and its video retargeting model is based on its comparison to existing standard algorithms and its ability to extend itself to real-time. Performance metrics are obtained for both PC environments and mobile device platforms for comparison. Advisors/Committee Members: Savakis, Andreas.

▼ Cieľom tejto práce bolo vytvoriť serverové riešenie schopné aplikovať vizuálne atraktívne efekty na živé video streamy. Spracované video by sa malo zobrazovať vo webovom užívateľskom rozhraní, ktoré by malo taktiež umožniť užívateľovi aplikované efekty zmeniť. Tento cieľ bol dosiahnutý vytvorením aplikácie na spracovanie videa, ktorá je pripojená k webovému serveru prostredníctvom RPC frameworku. Video vygenerované touto aplikáciou sa streamuje pomocou HLS protokolu, čo umožňuje jeho zobrazenie vo webovom užívateľskom rozhraní. Užívateľské rozhranie je pripojené k webovému serveru cez WebSocket protokol. To umožňuje webovému serveru spojiť užívateľské rozhranie s aplikáciou na spracovanie videa. Vytvorené riešenie je prístupné cez webové užívateľské rozhranie, ktoré užívateľovi umožňuje zadať URL adresu video streamu, ktorý sa následne zobrazí. Čas potrebný na načítanie streamu je zvyčajne okolo 10 sekúnd, čo by však mohlo trvať o veľa kratšie ak by riešenie bolo spustené na silnejšom stroji. Užívateľské rozhranie tiež umožňuje užívateľovi zmeniť nastavenia v oddelenom móde. V tomto móde sa zobrazuje iba jedna snímka zo streamu, no úpravy ktoré užívateľ spraví sa zobrazia skoro okamžite.; The goal of this work was to create a server solution capable of applying visually pleasing effects to live video streams. The processed video shall then be displayed in a web user interface allowing the user to adjust the applied effects. This goal is achieved by creating a video processing application connected to a web server using a RPC framework. The video generated by this application is streamed using HLS protocol enabling it to be displayed in the web user interface. The user interface is connected to the web server via WebSocket protocol. This enables the web server to connect the user interface with the video processing application. The created solution is accessible via a web user interface, which allows the user to submit video stream URL, which then gets displayed. The time required to load the stream is usually around 10 seconds, which could be much shorter if the solution ran on a more powerful machine. The user interface also enables the user to adjust the settings in a separate mode. ▼ Numerous authors have examined the effects of video games on executive functions. This research focuses on the effects of video games on task switching, one aspect of executive functions. Switching between different tasks is a regular occurrence today and is an important skill to possess as people juggle between performing different tasks simultaneously in everyday life. The effects of video game training on task switching has been continuously discussed and examined over time. This study aims to contribute to this debate by utilizing a Real-time Strategy (RTS) video game called StarCraft and measure its effect on the task switching performance of a population of video game players who do not play RTS video games, an area that the literature has not addressed. The results of this study depicted that training in the RTS video game StarCraft had no effect on participants’ task switching performance. Possible factors and particular aspects of the sample population were explored to explain this finding. The factors that were identified included the configuration of StarCraft, the duration of the training schedule that participants undertook and possible interference from other video gaming activity. The problem of task-specific learning was also confirmed when using identical task switching test measures before and after video game training. One aspect of the sample population identified was that the majority of participants may have reached their task switching performance potential through the numerous years of video game exposure. It was also hypothesized that RTS video game training has no impact on subjects’ task switching performance who self-report being Indian. Three video game genres were identified that could explain the superior task switching performance of subjects who self-reported being Coloured that participated in this study. Finally, the analysis revealed that the improvement in task switching performance exhibited by female StarCraft players were superior to the improvement demonstrated by male StarCraft players which suggests that RTS video games are better suited for improving females’ task switching performance than males. ▼ [EN] Vehicular Ad-hoc Networks (VANET) are a special type of networks where the nodes involved in the communication are vehicles. VANETs are created when several vehicles connect among themselves without the use of any infrastructure. In certain situations the absence of infrastructure is an advantage, but it also creates several challenges that should be overcome. One of the main problems related with the absence of infrastructure is the lack of a coordinator that can ensure a certain level of quality in order to enable the correct transmission of video and audio. Video transmission can be extremely useful in this type of networks as it can be used for videoconferencing of by traffic authorities to monitor the scene of an accident. In this thesis we focused on real time video transmission, providing solutions for both unicast and multicast environments. Specifically, we built a real-world testbed scenario and made a comparison with simulation results to validate the behavior of the simulation models. Using that testbed we implemented and improved DACME, an admission control module able to provide Quality of Service (QoS) to unicast video transmissions. DACME proved to be a valid solution to obtain a certain level of QoS in multi-hop environments. Concerning multicast video transmission, we developed and simulated several flooding schemes, focusing specifically on VANET environments. In this scope, the main contribution of this thesis is the Automatic Copies Distance Based (ACDB) flooding scheme. Thanks to the use of the perceived vehicular density, ACDB is a zeroconf scheme able to achieve good video quality in both urban and highway environments, being specially effective in highway environments.; [ES] Las redes vehiculares ad-hoc (VANET) son un tipo especial de redes en las que los nodos que participan de la comunicación son vehículos. Las VANETs se crean cuando diversos vehículos se conectan entre ellos sin el uso de ninguna infraestructura. En determinadas situaciones, la ausencia de infraestructura es una ventaja, pero también crea una gran cantidad de desafíos que se deben superar. Uno de los principales problemas relacionados con la ausencia de infraestructura, es la ausencia de un coordinador que pueda asegurar un determinado nivel de calidad, para poder asegurar la correcta transmisión de audio y vídeo. La transmisión de vídeo puede ser de extrema utilidad en este tipo de redes ya que puede ser empleada para videoconferencias o por las autoridades de tráfico para monitorizar el estado de un accidente. En esta tesis nos centramos en la transmisión de vídeo en tiempo real, proveyendo soluciones tanto para entornos unicast como multicast. En particular construimos un banco de pruebas real y comparamos los resultados obtenidos con resultados obtenidos en un entorno simulado para comprobar la fiabilidad de estos modelos. As técnicas de renderização baseadas em imagens permitem que novas visualizações de uma cena sejam geradas a partir de um conjunto de imagens, obtidas a partir de pontos de vista distintos. Pela extensão dessas técnicas para o tratamento de vídeos, podemos permitir a navegação no tempo e no espaço de uma cena obtida a partir de múltiplas câmeras. Nesse trabalho, abordamos o problema de gerar novas visualizações fotorealistas de cenas dinâmicas, com objetos móveis independentes, a partir de vídeos obtidos de múltiplas câmeras com pontos de vista distintos. Os desafios para a solução do problema envolvem a fusão das imagens das múltiplas câmeras minimizando as diferenças de brilho e cor entre elas, a detecção e extração dos objetos móveis da cena e a renderização de novas visualizações combinando um modelo estático da cena com os modelos aproximados dos objetos móveis. Além disso, é importante que novas visualizações possam ser geradas em taxas de quadro interativas de maneira a permitir que um usuário navegue com naturalidade pela cena renderizada. As aplicações dessas técnicas são diversas e incluem aplicações na área de entretenimento, como nas televisões digitais interativas que permitem que o usuário escolha o ponto de vista de filmes ou eventos esportivos, e em simulações para treinamento usando realidade virtual, onde é importante que se haja cenas realistas e reconstruídas a partir de cenas reais. Apresentamos um algoritmo para a calibração das cores capaz de minimizar a diferença de cor e brilho entre as imagens obtidas a partir de câmeras que não tiveram as cores calibradas. Além disso, descrevemos um método para a renderização interativa de novas visualizações de cenas dinâmicas capaz de gerar visualizações com qualidade semelhante à dos vídeos da cena.

Image-based rendering techniques allow the synthesis of novel scene views from a set of images of the scene, acquired from different viewpoints. By extending these techniques to make use of videos, we can allow the navigation in time and space of a scene acquired by multiple cameras. In this work, we tackle the problem of generating novel photorealistic views of dynamic scenes, containing independent moving objects, from videos acquired by multiple cameras with different viewpoints. The challenges presented by the problem include the fusion of images from multiple cameras while minimizing the brightness and color differences between them, the detection and extraction of the moving objects and the rendering of novel views combining a static scene model with approximate models for the moving objects. It is also important to be able to generate novel views in interactive frame rates allowing a user to navigate and interact with the rendered scene. The applications of these techniques are diverse and include applications in the entertainment field, with interactive digital televisions that allow the user to choose the viewpoint while watching movies or sports events, and in virtual-reality training simulations, where it is important to have realistic…

▼ Context. Social interaction between player avatars is one of the fundamentals of online multiplayer games, where text- and voice chat is used as standard methods for communication. To express emotions, players have the option to use emotes, which are text-based commands to play animations of the player’s avatar. Objectives. This study investigates if real-time facial capture could be preferred and more realistic, compared to typing emote commands to play facial animations when expressing emotions to other players. Methods. By using two methods for social interaction between players, a user study with 24 participants was conducted in a private conference room. An experiment was created where each participant tested the two methods to perform facial expressions, one consisting of typing emote commands, the other by performing with the calibrated participant’s face in real-time, with a web camera. Each participant performed and ranked the realism of each facial expression, in a survey for each method. A final survey could then determine the method that each participant had greater performance with and the method that was preferred the most. Results. The results showed that there was a difference of realism between facial expressions in both methods, where happiness was the most realistic. Disgust and sadness were however poorly rated when expressing these with the face. There was no difference of realism between the methods and which method participants preferred the most. There was however a difference in each participant’s performance with the two methods, where typing emote commands had higher performance. Conclusions. The results show that there is no difference of realism and preference, in typing emote commands to play facial animations and performing facial expressions in real-time with the face. There was, however, a difference in performing each method, where performing facial expressions with the face was the lowest. This confirms that the real-time facial capture technology needs improvements, to fully recognize and track the facial features of the human face.

▼ This thesis explores avenues for improving the quality and detail of game graphics, in the context of constraints that are common to most game development studios. The research begins by identifying two dominant constraints; limitations in the capacity of target gaming hardware/platforms, and processes that hinder the productivity of game art/content creation. From these constraints, themes were derived which directed the research‟s focus. These include the use of algorithmic or „procedural‟ methods in the creation of graphics content for games, and the use of an „interactive‟ content creation strategy, to better facilitate artist production workflow. Interactive workflow represents an emerging paradigm shift in content creation processes used by the industry, which directly integrates game rendering technology into the content authoring process. The primary motivation for this is to provide „high frequency‟ visual feedback that enables artists to see games content in context, during the authoring process. By merging these themes, this research develops a production strategy that takes advantage of „high frequency feedback‟ in an interactive workflow, to directly expose procedural methods to artists‟, for use in the content creation process. Procedural methods have a characteristically small „memory footprint‟ and are capable of generating massive volumes of data. Their small „size to data volume‟ ratio makes them particularly well suited for use in game rendering situations, where capacity constraints are an issue. In addition, an interactive authoring environment is well suited to the task of setting parameters for procedural methods, reducing a major barrier to their acceptance by artists. An interactive content authoring environment was developed during this research. Two algorithms were designed and implemented. These algorithms provide artists‟ with abstract mechanisms which accelerate common game content development processes; namely object placement in game environments, and the delivery of variation between similar game objects. In keeping with the theme of this research, the core functionality of these algorithms is delivered via procedural methods. Through this, production overhead that is associated with these content development processes is essentially offloaded from artists onto the processing capability of modern gaming hardware. This research shows how procedurally based content authoring algorithms not only harmonize with the issues of hardware capacity constraints, but also make the authoring of larger and more detailed volumes of games content more feasible in the game production process. Algorithms and ideas developed during this research demonstrate the use of procedurally based, interactive content creation, towards improving detail and complexity in the graphics of games. Cette thèse présente plusieurs contributions permettant d'améliorer la diffusion de vidéos. Dans la première partie de la thèse, nous évaluons et analysons les mécanismes de tolérance d'erreurs (correction et masquage d'erreurs). Les performances de ces différents mécanismes sont évaluées pour des taux de pertes de paquets variables. Les contributions suivantes mettent l'accent sur un code à effacements à la volée, appelée Tetrys, plus efficace que les codes en blocs classiques (Forward Error Correction - FEC). Tout d'abord, nous étudions l'application de Tetrys à la transmission vidéo temps réel par des chemins multiples. Nous proposons un découplage entre l'allocation de la charge et la gestion de la redondance pour Tetrys. Tetrys, lorsqu'il est couplé avec un mécanisme de répartition de charge appelé Encoded Multipath streaming (EMS), surpasse le couplage entre EMS et FEC pour les deux modèles de perte testés (Bernoulli et Gilbert-Elliott) en termes de taux de perte résiduel et de qualiée vidéo. En exploitant la capacité de correction de Tetrys, nous étudions ensuite les performances du décodage tardif où les paquets arrivant en retard sont décodés et utilisés pour stopper la propagation d'erreur. Enfin, une étude plus approfondie sur Tetrys propose un algorithme d'adaptation de la redondance, appelé A-Tetrys, permettant de gérer la dynamique du réseau. Cet algorithme combine des approches réactives et pro-actives pour adapter au mieux le taux de redondance. L'évaluation des performances montre que A-Tetrys parvient à gérer simultanément les variations du taux de perte, du modèle de perte et du délai. Nous étudions ensuite un autre challenge en proposant un nouveau critère d'équité : la qualité vidéo. Nous proposons un algorithme Q-AIMD qui permet un partage équitable de la bande passante en termes de qualité vidéo entre des ux concurrents. Nous présentons un système pour le déploiement de cet algorithme Q-AIMD et nous étudions sa convergence. L'évaluation de différentes métriques de qualité vidéo (PSNR, QP et VQM) montre une diminution importante des écarts de qualité vidéo entre plusieurs flux par rapport à l'approche traditionnelle AIMD qui se base sur le débit. De plus, une autre contribution sur ce sujet propose une nouvelle approche appelée courbe virtuelle. Contrairement à QAIMD qui est une approche décentralisée, la courbe virtuelle est une approche centralisée qui permet à la fois une équité entre les flux vidéo en termes de qualité vidéo et une équité entre les flux non-vidéo et flux vidéo en termes de débit.

La previz on-set est une étape de prévisualisation qui a lieu directement pendant la phase de tournage d’un film à effets spéciaux. Cette proposition de prévisualisation consiste à montrer au réalisateur une vue assemblée du plan final en temps réel. Le travail présenté dans cette thèse s’intéresse à une étape spécifique de la prévisualisation : le compositing. Cette étape consiste à mélanger plusieurs sources d’images pour composer un plan unique et cohérent. Dans notre cas, il s’agit de mélanger une image de synthèse avec une image issue de la caméra présente sur le plateau de tournage. Les effets spéciaux numériques sont ainsi ajoutés à la prise de vue réelle. L’objectif de cette thèse consiste donc à proposer un système permettant l’ajustement automatique du mélange entre les deux images. La méthode proposée nécessite la mesure de la géométrie de la scène filmée. Pour cette raison, un capteur de profondeur est ajouté à la caméra de tournage. Les données sont relayées à l’ordinateur qui exécute un algorithme permettant de fusionner les données du capteur de profondeur et de la caméra de tournage. Par le biais d’un démonstrateur matériel, nous avons formalisé une solution intégrée dans un moteur de jeux vidéo. Les expérimentations menées montrent dans un premier temps des résultats encourageants pour le compositing en temps réel. Nous avons observé une amélioration des résultats suite à l’introduction de la méthode de segmentation conjointe. La principale force de ce travail réside dans la mise en place du démonstrateur qui nous a permis d’obtenir des algorithmes efficaces dans le domaine de la previz on-set.

Previz on-set is a preview step that takes place directly during the shootingphase of a film with special effects. The aim of previz on-set is to show to the film director anassembled view of the final plan in realtime. The work presented in this thesis focuses on aspecific step of the previz : the compositing. This step consists in mixing multiple images tocompose a single and coherent one. In our case, it is to mix computer graphics with an imagefrom the main camera. The objective of this thesis is to propose a system for automaticadjustment of the compositing. The method requires the measurement of the geometry ofthe scene filmed. For this reason, a depth sensor is added to the main camera. The data issent to the computer that executes an algorithm to merge data from depth sensor and themain camera. Through a hardware demonstrator, we formalized an integrated solution in avideo game engine. The experiments gives encouraging results for compositing in real time.Improved results were observed with the introduction of a joint segmentation method usingdepth and color information. The main strength of this work lies in the development of ademonstrator that allowed us to obtain effective algorithms in the field of previz on-set.
