▼ This thesis is based on a two-year ethnography, conducted in a special school, on how young people with physical disabilities use the internet. The thesis focuses on four key areas identified during the research. Firstly, the thesis highlights the embodied rhythms or pace and journeys or wayfaring that characterise how young people move in and between digital media and that are not captured by studies focusing on typologies of internet use. Secondly, the thesis discusses how young people with physical disabilities struggle to overcome stigma and exclusion in their online relationships, as rather than facilitate disembodied communication(s), digital media is increasingly saturated with normative visuality. Thirdly, the thesis discusses how young people with physical disabilities use of digital media is regulated by their teachers and parents, often limiting their use of this medium. Finally, the thesis explores how the young people enact disability in different contexts including the special school, mainstream colleges and the home, and what this tells us about these institutional contexts. In addition to participant observation the fieldwork also involved in-depth interviews with a small cohort of young people with physical disabilities and video diaries produced by participants that showcased how they use the internet in the home. Interviews were also carried out with some school staff from the special school as well as parents of participants. Home visits enabled observation of how participants use the internet in domestic settings, and some participants were followed to their mainstream colleges as they progressed into further education, or attended placements during the two-year period. A concern addressed in the thesis is how inequalities are reproduced and embedded in young people with physical disabilities habitual use of the internet. At the same time, the study found that these young people used the internet much in the same way as their able-bodied peers, for example, to play games, socialise and post images to garner approval. Video diaries revealed significant differences in the rhythms and journeys underpinning the way in which the young people used digital media, articulating contextual and habitual factors and the level of their disability. Furthermore, these young people used the internet to find, build and maintain social relationships online, to explore their sexuality and to engage in self-promotion on social networking sites. However, when online they also encountered various obstacles and struggled to overcome bodily stigma and exclusion within the visual and narrowly normative presentation of the self-online. School teachers and parents were found to adhere to regulatory policies and advice on how to mediate young people s access and use to digital media. This study found the regulatory practices (monitoring, blocking, filtering content) restricted how young people with physical disabilities could access and use digital media in the home and at school. For some participants their gender and…

▼ The Physical Internet (PI) is a novel vision that aims to reshape and improve efficiency of transport and logistics. A game-changing vision is expected to have a profound effect on all actors involved in freight transport systems. However, the concept is still in early stages, and the study of the PI in the context of maritime ports has remained unexplored. With maritime ports considered as key global trade enablers, the proposed research aims to provide insights into possible scenarios for the evolution of ports under the development of the Physical Internet. Firstly, a framework that shows the categorical evolution of ports under the influence of three developing PI characteristics is generated, by means of literature review, interviews with experts and brainstorming sessions. Secondly, a scenario logic approach is used to generate hypothetical futures. Both the framework and the hypothetical futures are then used as input for a Delphi-study in which experts in the field of PI assess the level of development of each of the PI characteristics for the years 2030 and 2040. The results from the questionnaire are used to generate the evolution path of maritime ports through the lenses of the proposed framework, for each scenario. An important finding from the survey is that a governance dimension, which entail a set of rules and protocols for a cooperative, safe and reliable PI environment, can lag behind and delay the development of ports towards "PI ports" in the upcoming years. Also, under the most optimistic scenario, the Physical Internet scales up to the regional level at most by the horizon year 2040, with ports not reaching the level of global hub hyperconnectivity by this period, as per the opinions of the PI experts.

Portanto, aproveitar a
Desses, 16 concluíram as 3 fases.

The supply of freight inside cities is the last link of global logistics. Cities are actually in the middle of contradictory issues. On one hand the e-commerce revolution has significantly increased the ingoing flow inside the city. On the other hand people yearn to create pleasant pedestrian spaces of life in which vehicles are not welcome. Yet, freight supply is required to keep the attractiveness of city. It is necessary to provide solutions meeting all these needs.A lot of solutions have been studied to face city logistics issues. Among them, we focus our research on a flow pooling solution exploiting an Urban Consolidation Centre (UCC). It consists of a centralization platform for the distribution of freight intended for the city centre. The purpose is to pool freight from different carriers to limit the use of resources in urban areas. This kind of project is particularly designed to avoid semis from entering the city. Thus, the warehouse is located as close as possible to city centres as well as being as accessible as possible for carriers.Despite the enthusiasm for the UCC concept, this type of solution has not shown much success until now. That is why we choose to concentrate our approach on the observation and assessment of logistics costs to operate a UCC in real life with the aim to answer the question: Can an UCC be viable in a middle size…

▼ Background: Physical activity (PA) has been shown to
improve health among cancer survivors yet the majority of survivors
do not meet the recommended public health guidelines. In addition,
research suggests that the influence of PA correlates may vary
between cancer types but little research exists that directly
compares correlates among groups. Recent PA behaviour change
interventions among cancer survivors have used methods such as
face-to-face, telephone counselling, email, and print-based
materials, however, based on the broad reach and possible cost
savings, internet-delivered programs may be a more viable option to
achieve PA behaviour change. Purpose: The purpose of this
dissertation was to examine and compare the correlates and
preferences among cancer survivors living in Nova Scotia, and to
develop an internet-delivered, home-based behaviour change program.
Methods: Study I was a cross-sectional, population based survey
that measured the PA, Theory of Planned Behaviour (TPB)-based
social cognitive constructs, PA preferences, and demographic and
medical characteristics of 741 breast, prostate, and colorectal
cancer survivors. Study II was a randomized controlled behaviour
change trial that examined the feasibility and preliminary efficacy
of an internet-delivered behaviour change program designed to
increase PA levels among 95 breast, prostate, and colorectal cancer
survivors. Participants in the intervention group (n=48) visited a
web site to track their PA and receive TPB based educational
materials over 9 weeks. The usual care group (n=47) was asked to
maintain their current routine. Assessments were conducted at
baseline, post-intervention and 12-week follow-up. Study II
secondary outcomes assessed quality of life (QoL) and motivational
outcomes. Results: In Study I, it was found that the majority of
survivors were insufficiently active for health benefits. There
were differences found when assessing the correlates of PA among
the three cancer groups, specifically intention was significantly
associated with PA for colorectal cancer survivors only; planning
was significantly associated with PA for breast and prostate cancer
survivors only; and perceived behavioural control (PBC) was
significantly associated with PA for prostate cancer survivors only
(Paper 1). Study I also concluded there were differences in PA
program and counselling preferences based on cancer group (Paper
2). Results showed low rates of strength exercise and correlates
did not vary much between cancer groups (Paper 3). In Study II, we
had a 23% recruitment rate with 88% and 84% retention at
post-intervention and 12-week follow-up respectively. Engagement
rate were low at 26% of participants completing the modules,
however participant satisfaction was high (Paper 4).
Non-significant increases in total PA were found between the
groups, specifically among those who were not meeting PA guidelines
at baseline (Paper 4). However, there were no changes for QoL
outcomes (Paper 5). There were no positive changes in TPB outcomes,
with negative…

A machine learning-based security vulnerability study of XOR Arbiter PUFs for resource-constraints internet of things.

▼ The newly appearing
Physical Unclonable Function (PUF) is a new method for improving security in
physical systems and addressing the problems associated with traditional cryptographic approaches that rely on non-volatile memory for storing secret keys. It utilizes the manufacturing variations in integrated circuits to produce responses unique for individual PUF devices, and are not reproducible even by the PUF manufacturer, or anyone who obtained the PUF circuit design, hence possessing great potential to achieve secure authentication.
PUFs of different designs have different properties, and it is essential for secure application developers who utilize PUFs in their applications to have a good knowledge of all important properties of PUFs. Therefore, investigating these properties provide valuable information for PUF designers and researchers to discover potential risks and develop new PUFs designs that eliminate or reduce some of the weaknesses of existing PUFs. One type of PUF properties, such as randomness, diffuseness, uniqueness, etc., can be examined and measured directly from silicon implementation, while the other type, i.e., mathematical clonability, needs to be examined by means of intensive computation to determine information leakage of PUF circuit design. Both types are important and complementary, and the later reveals severe consequences of potential insecurity. This line of thought is one main motivation of this dissertation research in examining the breakability of the state-of-the-art PUFs.
XOR Arbiter PUFs are a class of delay-based PUFs that are among the most resistant types of PUFs against mathematical clonability. The dissertation introduces an efficient approach to break XOR Arbiter PUFs using a modified version of neural network-based machine learning method, leading to the discovery of a vulnerability of XOR arbiter PUFs, that can handle datasets larger than memory capacity. This machine learning method, presented in chapter 3, employs a technique for handling dataset beyond memory capacity that was first introduced in our unsupervised learning method for efficient clustering of big datasets, presented in chapter 4. To further enhance the machine learning PUF breaking method and unsupervised learning method, a general algorithmic procedure is developed for how to utilize non blocking IO operations to speed up processing large disk-resident big datasets, presented in chapter 5. Finally, the conclusion of the dissertation in presented chapter conclusion.

▼ These years, Fintech has been the most popular words. Big data analysis, robo-advisor,
internet finance, chatterbot are going to be a trend in the world. Consumer habits are changing gradually. It has been normal that people solve everything in their daily life by smartphone. In this situation, financial industry changed their attention from
physical bank locations to bank services, also the regulation relax,
internet-only banks rise again.
Due to the development of trend, the Financial Supervisory Commission R.O.C. (Taiwan) announced formally to allow setting up the
internet-only banks in April 2018. And explain the regulation in principle. The Financial Supervisory Commission R.O.C. (Taiwan) want to stimulate innovation of the financial industry in Taiwan to provide the financial services which are more convenient and perfect through the different style of banks.
This study has the follow steps. First is to explain the definition of the word â
Internet-only bankâ. Through the comparative analysis method, to compare the different between
internet-only bank and traditional bank, online banking, digital banking, force the position of
internet-only bank. Second, introduce the history of non-
physical bank services, know the environment and challenge of

▼ This research has proposed a tentative design of information flows on PI embed three PI components: (1) modular containers, (2) open interface web, and (3) global protocols. Through the design, this research has identified potentials of the primary PI elements to resolve current issues in freight logistics (i.e., inefficient space utilization on loading units and lack of their visibility). In-line with trends of the maritime logistics, PI ports in the design exploit the major PI elements in one of the value-added services, repositioning operation. In the context of PI ports, requirements on the three PI components have been elicited and reflected in the conceptual design. The adjusted RAMI 4.0 has been applied to visualize not only information flows in PI ports but also required logistics entities, activities and interactions in Track and Trace (T&T) system, and moreover operational processes. As a result, the conceptual model proposes requirements for PI ports along with potentials of each PI element.

▼ Cyber-Physical Systems (CPS) integrate physical processes, sensors, and embedded computers to facilitate advanced control systems such as autonomous cars and smart cities. Communication in CPS has tight constraints regarding reliability and latency, while traditional networking primitives can not guarantee these constraints. We base our thesis on the Chaos networking primitive which is a new paradigm that overcomes these limitations of traditional networking primitives. The current radio standard on which Chaos relies, is used more in science and industry, but less in everyday devices. We want to bring Chaos from the lab to the real world by porting the primitive to Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE). This thesis presents Chaos BLE: an implementation of the Chaos communication primitive on Bluetooth Low Energy. We characterised the capture effect on BLE and achieved accurate time synchronisation among nodes (< 2.5?s), both of which are key for the operation of the Chaos primitive. We validated our design and implementation on a 25 node BLE testbed that we have build at Delft University of Technology. In order to improve the performance of Chaos BLE and to mitigate channel interference, we propose a multichannel approach. The Chaos Multichannel primitive enables the network to use multiple channels in parallel, such that smaller sub-networks arise. Chaos Multichannel outperforms the single channel primitive in terms of reliability and latency. It achieves reliabilities close to 100% while finding a consensus among the nodes up to 2 times faster, compared to the single channel approach.

▼ A promising vision to make the global logistics more sustainable is 'Physical Internet Logistics'. This vision, based on the way 'Digital Internet' sends packages information through a network, is focused on optimisation of handling, storing, realising and supplying objects. Physical Internet Logistics suggests an open, global and interconnected network with different spokes, hubs and modes. Objects are encapsulated in standardised containers whereafter they will be distributed through a network. Routing of the container is focused on network balancing. Every container will follow its own path through the network from origin to destination by using different hubs. Different origin-destination pairs will be bundled and transported on the same link. Besides, similar origin-destination pairs could follow different paths through the network. At hubs, transhipment takes place to transfer containers to different routes. This paper is focused on the application of Physical Internet characteristics in the parcel delivery industry using an optimisation model concerning fleet allocation on a service network. The objective is to find such a fleet allocation plan in which the total amount of emitted CO2 is minimised. Two different designs are suggested: a 'hub design' and an 'open network design'. For the hub network design, a couple of nodes are defined as hub where transhipment can take place. Paths from origin to destination are only possible by using at least one hub. This means that demand travels from origin to hub to destination. For the Open network design, transhipment is possible at every node. Paths from origin to destination are possible in one direct way or by using a hub. This means that two kinds of paths are possible, from origin to destination or from origin to hub to destination. By using a case study at PostNL, a carrier in the Dutch parcel delivery industry, this paper concludes that the application of Physical Internet characteristics do have its influence. In particular, the openness of a network result in a reduction in total amount of emitted CO2. During the case study at PostNL, it became clear that a CO2 reduction of 6% is possible when the elements of Physical Internet were applied on a hub network design. The open network design is able to reduce the total amount of emitted CO2 by 16%. When the demand is known by forehand this paper concludes that a less restricted network results in less CO2 emissions emitted. Destinations should be severed by more than one hub or directly by the origin depot. Transhipment should be possible at as much as nodes as possible. Concerning a case in the parcel delivery industry, it is hard to make forecasting more reliable on a daily base due to the short time windows of delivery. This means that a carrier as PostNL should innovate in the flow of information from shippers to make the application of Physical Internet feasible.

▼ To improve instruction in an online science course, a weekly virtual office hour (VOH) pilot program was offered at an online high school. Lack of student interest did not allow full implementation of the pilot program, but a similar program was implemented over five weeks of instructional time with high school students enrolled in blended learning
physical science and chemistry courses. Data collection included a pre-intervention survey and post-intervention survey, including Likert-like items. Other data sources were an analysis of the quality and quantity of asynchronous discussion posts, student and instructor interviews, a VOH journal, and VOH artifacts. In addition, to identify the reasons why students did not participate in the pilot program, a follow-up survey was sent to the initial group of students. Findings showed that the virtual office hours successfully increased student engagement and were overall a well-received addition to the course. Conditions needed for successful implementation of future virtual office hour programs were described, including the need to consider technical and logistical concerns, and the need to consider the specific goals of the program. To support all the observed benefits of implementing virtual office hours, ideal conditions for success are a well-informed instructor, asynchronous discussion forums supporting the development of student questions.

▼ The primary objective of this project was to determine if a walking program based on social cognitive theory and delivered via the
Internet could improve fitness levels in women. Fifty-three women were randomized to either an Educational Only condition or a Social Cognitive theory (SCT) condition. The SCT condition emphasized personalized mastery steps and goals to increase walking pace while the Education Only condition primarily provided general
physical activity and walking information. The One-Mile Walk Test (Kline et al., 1987), an objective measure of fitness, was conducted to determine if women in the SCT condition had greater improvements in their fitness levels. The psychosocial measures of knowledge, depression, self-efficacy, outcome expectations, social support, and decisional balance pros and cons were administered to determine if changes were evidenced in these psychosocial measures pre to post treatment. Results indicated that both conditions had significant improvements in their fitness levels as measured by their walk test times and estimated VO2max. The SCT condition improved their time on the walk test by 69 seconds at post-test with an increase in estimated VO2max of 2.65 ml/kg/min whereas the Education Only condition improved their time on the walk test by 37 seconds with an increase in estimated VO2max of 1.1 ml/kg/min. Both groups also evidenced change on the self-report measures of stage of change with the SCT condition advancing 1.25 stages and the Education Only condition advancing .76 stages. Total minutes walked per week in the SCT condition increased by 31 minutes to 94 minutes total per week and by 47 minutes to 82 minutes total per week in the Education Only condition. Few of the psychosocial measures evidenced change pre to post. Of note, however, was the significant decrease in self-efficacy seen in the Education Only condition. In summary, both programs were able to make improvements in participants' fitness levels and time spent walking per week. However, the SCT condition, with its guided mastery experiences, had greater fitness improvements that are likely to have a larger clinical health impact.

▼ Urban freight logistics currently has to deal with multiple unsustainabilites. Physical Internet characteristics can be promising to make urban freight logistics more sustainable. It was researched if this can be the case and, what opportunities and barriers there are belonging to this change. With Q-methodology different stakeholder perspectives were revealed. This resulted in four different perspectives from which three had a positive attitude towards PI characteristics. One perspective was more moderate in relation to this and stated that a lot is possible already without changes happening. Opportunities and barriers are defined and it was concluded that there is currently no real need to change. Because an increase of national coordinated regulation was also assessed positively a policy framework was created that states individual and collaborative actions for stakeholders. With this 'an environment where efficiency pays off' should be created.

▼ Abstract: In this work, using automated data collection, we carried out traditional chemistry experiments, such as fractional distillation of water / ethanol and water / acetone mixture, Briggs-Rauscher oscillating reaction, kinetics of acid catalysed thiosulfate decomposition and enthalpy of catalytic decomposition hydrogen peroxide. For this set of experiments, a local data collection was used, in which the objective was to adapt the measurement conditions to the alternative instrumentation, that were used to carry out remote experiments. Alternative instrumentation means the use of small, inexpensive devices easily found in the market, such as: a LM35 temperature sensor, red laser, LDR sensor, DS18B20 temperature sensor, Arduino platform, ESP8266-NodeMCU and ESP8266 Wi-Fi module. In the first step, a temperature sensor and a laser-LDR system were coupled to the acquisition board, and data were collected using the board software and then analyzed using data processing software. With the systems developed in this stage, four experiments were performed remotely, via the
Internet, using the YouTube site and the Moodle platform. In this stage, all the experiments were transmitted to students from different disciplines, and later evaluated by qualitative and quantitative questionnaires applied to them. In all experiments, the experimental results were in agreement with those of the literature, with precision and accuracy compatible with what is expected in conventional experimental teaching. The application of the questionnaires to the students who experienced the experiments remotely showed an excellent acceptance on the part of them, evidencing the positivity in the use of the remote experimentation resource

Centralised transport logistics systems reach their limits, facing with fragmented shipments and complex logistics networks. Breakthrough innovations, as the Physical Internet initiative, steer research works to decentralised, open and collaborative monitoring approaches. The research work in this thesis aims to query the relevance of decentralised monitoring applied on intelligent and opportunistic parcels. Thus, we define key performance indicators allowing each parcel to make its own decisions and direct itself on the logistics network. These indicators allow parcels to evaluate each transportation opportunity. In the third part, we evaluate the relevance of our model, testing these indicators with different transportation types. We use a design of experiments with Discrete-Event Simulation models to test several transportation scenarios. Finally, in the fourth part, we applied our experiments on a French Blood Establishment Supply Chain part. It aims to compare the current organisation with the expected one and conclude on the relevance of our proposition.

While the internet of things (IoT) promises many advances for businesses, administrations and citizens, its deployment is a real challenge in terms of privacy and security. In order to ensure the confidentiality and the authenticity of information transmitted by these objects, numerous IoT protocols incorporate cryptographic algorithms within their specification. To date, these algorithms are the same as the ones used in traditionnal internet security protocols and thus, have not been designed with constrainted plateforms in mind. This thesis focuses on lightweight cryptography which aims at reduce as much as possible the cost of its implementation.Apart from the main goal of lightweight cryptography which is to consume less ressources than traditional algorithms, it is also valuable to take into account the integration of countermeasures against physical attacks during the design phase in order to limit their impact. Although this kind of attacks require a physical access to the target, this can be a realistic scenario as connected objets might be deployed everywhere and thus, potentially accessible by malicious people. Our works focus on the study of three lightweight cryptographic algorithms, each having a potential for industrial applications. Especially, we highlight the need of secure implementations by introducing two new side-channel attacks : one against ChaCha20, standardized by…

Purpose: The purpose of this essay is to examine why physical travel agencies still exist, and what the future looks like for those agencies since the technology's rapid growth. Method: This study is based on a qualitative methodology. Ten semi-structured interviews have been conducted for the empirical data. The interviews were held with various travel agencies located in Stockholm through personal meetings, telephone and e-mail. The travel agencies who participated in the interviews was; Jade Travel, Lotus Travel, Resevaruhuset, Resecity, Apollo, Ving, Nygren & Lind, Jorden Resor, BIG Travel and Globetrotter. Theoretical framework: The theories that have been used in this essay are consumer decision making, distribution channels, servicescape, the dynamics of the service encounter and the relationship between customer and travel agency. Conclusion: The physical travel agency has since the technology's development changed on a way that today's physical travel agencies evaluate the physical service meeting with the customer. Some physical agencies have decreased in number but the quality of service along with the skills and knowledge among employees of the travel agencies has increased, therefore to compete against other travel agencies and their virtual services, and to create a relationship with the consumers.

Although the freight transport plays vital role in the economic sector and the freight transport demand is increasing, there are still challenges for the carriers in the freight market to keep and improve their revenue. To respond to the challenges, Revenue Management (RM) and Physical Internet (PI) are adopted as the solution in this thesis. RM is a method, which is originated from airline industry, to maximize the revenue. PI is a fully interconnected, open, dynamic logistics system aiming to develop an open global interconnected logistics networks to increase the logistics efficiency and sustainability. This thesis investigates the application of RM in PI to improve the revenue of less-than-truckload (LTL) carriers. The application of RM in PI is studied based on four research questions in RM, i.e. pricing, capacity control, forecasting, and bundle pricing. In addition, for each research question, an experimental study is conducted to evaluate the feasibility and performance of the proposed optimization models corresponded to each question. The results provide the carriers managerial implications and constructive guidance to make…

▼ Abstract: Taking as its starting point the need to simplify the retrieval and dissemination of information among professionals, students and researchers in the fields of
Physical Education and Sports, in an environment in which the amount of information duplicates every two years, this study examined the question of searching on the
Internet for resources. Three information channels were studied due to their significance: (1) sites on the World Wide Web; (2) discussion lists; and (3) gatekeepers (vectors of 'people technology¿). The construction of a referral center (information about information) was chosen as one of the infrastructures for organizing the information drawn from the
Internet technologies, particularly the Center for Biomedical Informatics oft he State University of Campinas, State of São Paulo, Brazil. Two other infrastructures used were the Virtual Hospital (a metaphor of a real hospital), and the construction of the Virtual Sports Center. The first chapter discusses the choice, justification of the
subject and the methodology, followed by a discussion concerning information in the fields of
Physical Education and Sports, with emphasis on their evolution in Brazil. This was followed by a description of the resources offered on the Internet – both real and potential – as well as the concepts of gatekeepers and invisible colleges. Next there is a description of the experimental version of the Virtual Sports Center and an updated version analyzing the three channels of information chosen for this study. Finally, there are conclusions based on the evolution between both versions of the Virtual Sports Center (www.cev.org.birn) the period under study, with suggestions as to possibilities leading to the evolution and imporvement of the permanent construction process of an information referral center in

▼ It is increasingly common to work and live in buildings controlled by some system, the so-called Building Automation Systems, where to keep the levels of comfort and reduce energy consumption are very important requirements. These systems control from heating, ventilation, air conditioning, to lights intensity, with the goal of reducing energy costs and make the building occupants satisfied. However, these systems are usually proprietary and have high costs associated, due to the required equipment to deal with all the devices and the distinct communications. Therefore, our goal is to reduce reduce these costs, which is quite difficult due to the vast devices heterogeneity. In this dissertation, we implement a Building Automation System taking advantage of existing
Internet of Things (IoT) solutions. Thus, this thesis explores how IoT solutions can fit adequately into the scenario of building automation. To validate our technological choices and evaluate the adequacy
of the chosen middleware, we made use of an existing case study of a room with multiple components and an aquarium as a subsystem. We have compared different IoT approaches and their impact on the energy consumption and occupants comfort. The results obtained helped us to realise that in fact there are several aspects that can be enhanced in order to reduce energy consumption and maintain occupants’ comfort. An initial investment in the implementation of these systems may involve different types of equipment and development effort to achieve the desired solution. However in long term, it is worth the effort and initial investment on these systems since they can actually reduce the energy consumption and guarantee good conditions for the room occupants.

▼ The whole trading amount of Electronic Commerce has rapidly increased in recent years. Statistics indicates that Online Purchasing selling amount in the United States increased 61% from 2007 to 2011; in Taiwan, annual sales amount exceeded $430 billion NT dollars for 2011. From 2009 to 2011, annual sales growth rates registered 30.37%, 15.0% and 13.75%, respectively. It is observed that Global Electronic Commerce has shown outstanding performance although the global economic environment is still struggling under the lingering impact of the 2008 financial crisis.
In Taiwan, the annual growth rate of department stores was -0.17% in 2008 under the impacts of Financial Tsunami, and increased to 3.18% in 2009 due to economic turnaround. Yet in 2011, with new storesâ joining, the sales growth rate reached 16.52%, the highest over the past 5 years. In 2012, for the same reason, the market share of Shin Kong Mitsukoshi and SOGO encountered decrement of 1.7% and 0.5%, respectively.
Therefore, the concerns about the profit shrinking and declining of department stores has also caused much attention. As we are dealing with the ever-changing consumer behaviors and
Internet market, the partially and fullyâ served combination will be an upfront market trend in the near future for wholesalers. During the unifying phase, an fully-integrated strategic and operational model must be thoroughly considered in order to generate more diversified channels to keep in close contact with consumers and to strengthen the competitive advantage of enterprises.
This study is mainly based on the click-and-mortar business model proposed by Gulati and Garino (2000) and
Internet marketing strategy theory. It aims to formulate a strategy for department stores industry to embark on virtual channel via case studies and interviewing experts. In Taiwan, relevant studies mainly focus on sectors like wholesaling, game software, and finance. Therefore, studies about department stores venturing into virtual channels are relatively insufficient and the present study might serve as a reference for department stores sector in venturing into virtual channels in the future.
This study indicates that the Total Integrate Strategy of the two department stores has positive effects in the following four aspects, including branding, management, corporate structure and operation. For department stores, utilizing
Internet marketing strategy increased not only the brand visibility but also the attractions toward customers. According to the two cases in this study, the profits of their virtual stores only account for a small part of their whole profits, which shows that the problem of reciprocal effect do not occur. Up until now, it seems to be a win-win outcome by adopting such integrating ideas.

▼ This thesis aims an exploratory evaluation of the Industry 4.0 (I4.0) impact on Portuguese Ornamental Stone (OS) firms’ response to the Threats resulting from the Building Information Modelling (BIM) procurement.
The transition witnessed from the Third to the Fourth Industrial Age leads to the emergence of paradigms such as BIM, seeking efficiency in Architecture, Engineering and Construction (AEC) through a global approach and procurement oriented towards standardisable products and I4.0, where production comes to be supported by Cyber-
Physical Systems (CPS).
Integrated in the AEC supply chain, the OS sector shows Portugal to be the eighth country in OS trade worldwide, and the second per capita, with its competitiveness based on the products customization. BIM represents threats for its sustainability, particularly in firms of the Cluster Portugal Mineral Resources (CPMR).
The literature review showed that Service Science (S-S) is an inter-disciplinary scientific field that combines Organisation with Tchnological Knowledge, with a view to categorizing, innovating and creating value for Service-Systems.
Guided by the pragmatic paradigm and using the mixed methodology of parallel convergence, this research focuses on conceptualization of a Service Science Framework (Inovstone4.0), to which was applied a representative sample of CPMR companies. This Framework has allowed to measure the evolution of Key Concern Indicators (KCI) indexed to stakeholders’ concerns, when operations shifts from the current best practices to I4.0 operattions.
From the results, it has been found significant relief of stakeholder’s concerns, regarding the time to deliver, costs, footprint and products conformity, when in BIM procurement context, the production evolves to I4.0, allowing to conclude that in technical terms, the impact of I4.0 on the threats arising from BIM procurement in CPMR tends to be positive; RESUMO:

▼ This research examined the
physical activity (PA)
internet search experiences and preferences of parents of children/youth with disability (CYWD). A sample of parents of CYWD (n=10) participated in a prompted think aloud process (i.e., verbalize thoughts) while searching for PA information online. Researchers observed the parents and gathered information regarding their experience and preferences. Using an inductive thematic analysis of the parents think aloud responses, the following emerged as key themes regarding online PA information needs: Know exactly what programs they offer, Keep it very very simple, and More work for parents to find something. Parents used as an online evaluation criterion, including information parents considered important, to determine the suitability of the program for their CYWD. An improved understanding of parents experiences and preferences while searching for PA information can inform how PA or disability organizations structure their websites to create positive search experiences.

▼ Background – Previous research has evaluated different distribution systems and chan-nels that companies operate through. However, research primarily has focused on the richness of online channels rather than the value of physical stores. The following report will examine the reasons and implications underlying the choice of channel strategy. Purpose – The purpose of this thesis is to examine the reason why companies within the fashion and apparel industry, operating in Sweden, choose to operate through a certain market channel strategy. The thesis aims to evaluate four types of market channel strat-egies with the help of case companies. Method – A qualitative approach to the research has been chosen which consists of a case study including four companies representing different channel strategies. Data col-lection for the analysis where conducted through interviews with persons having vital positions within one of the four companies. Results and Discussion – The case companies ASOS, Bubbleroom, Cubus and Dressmann each represent one of the chosen market channels. The interviews presented in the results section implied that the companies chosen channel was more appropriate for the market they operated in as well as the target group they were aiming to reach. Conclusion – Even though research states that today’s society is moving away from the physical store market channel, this study proved that one single strategy is not appropri-ate for all businesses. A company will have to research their target market before ap-propriately selecting a channel strategy.

▼ The Internet of Things (IoT) aims to connect all things to the internet to facilitate intelligent identifying, locating, tracking, monitoring, and managing of objects and information. The IoT paradigm will be supported by advanced wireless communications technologies and fifth-generation (5G) cellular networks. As such, new network architectures and protocols should be developed to ensure successful deployments of IoT communications systems in many domains including smart homes, transportation, logistics, smart grids and healthcare. In order to extend existing wireless network coverage and support the robustness and connectivity of IoT, unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) has been proposed as an ideal IoT platform due to its flexibility and mobility. Moreover, mobile edge computing (MEC) which provides considerable computing resource at the edge of the network to support IoT applications and services in real time is another key enabling technology for IoT.
However, realizing the vision of IoT is challenging due to many difficulties that need to be addressed. Particularly, physical layer security (PLS) and low-latency design are the two main challenges. On the one hand, due to the openness of wireless transmission medium, the communications between the legitimate transmitter-receiver pair can be readily attacked by eavesdroppers or spoofers where the confidentiality and integrity of the information cannot be guaranteed. On the other hand, with the tremendous amount and variety of data to be collected and processed in IoT networks, achieving low-latency communications is challenging and has become one of the major bottlenecks of IoT. In this thesis, we develop new efficient algorithms to improve the PLS and latency in IoT communications based on UAV and MEC technologies to address the aforementioned challenges of IoT.
We first develop a secure UAV-enabled communication framework by exploiting a UAV-based friendly jammer which emits artificial noise to prevent eavesdropping attacks on legitimate ground nodes when the eavesdropper location is unknown. We propose an efficient algorithm to maximize the security performance by jointly optimizing the 3D deployment and jamming power of the UAV jammer. Numerical results show that our proposed iterative algorithm performs close to an exhaustive search with significantly reduced complexity.
Next, we propose a more general IoT communications model where both the latency and PLS performance are jointly considered in an MEC network. We formulate a latency minimization problem by jointly optimizing the user's transmit power, computing capacity allocation, and user association subject to PLS performance and computing resource constraints. Numerical results show that our proposed solution outperforms baseline strategies over a wide range of computing capacities and highlight a fundamental tradeoff between latency and security in an MEC network.
Subsequently, we extend the latency-security tradeoff analysis to a UAV-enabled MEC network, where multiple ground users offload large…

▼ Building Automation System (BAS) is a complex distributed control system that is widely deployed in commercial, residential, industrial buildings for monitoring and controlling mechanical/electrical equipment. Through increasing industrial and technological advances, the control components of BAS are becoming increasingly interconnected. Along with potential benefits, integration also introduces new attack vectors, which tremendous increases safety and security risks in the control system. Historically, BAS lacks security design and relies on physical isolation and "security through obscurity". These methods are unacceptable with the "smart building" technologies. The industry needs to reevaluate the safety and security of the current building automation system, and design a comprehensive solution to provide integrity, reliability, and confidentiality on both system and network levels.
This dissertation focuses on the system level in the effort to provide a reliable computing foundation for the devices and controllers. Leveraged on the preferred security features such as, robust modular design, small privilege code, and formal verifiability of microkernel architecture, this work describes a security enhanced operating system with built-in mandatory access control and a proxy-based communication framework for building automation controllers. This solution ensures policy-enforced communication and isolation between critical applications and non-critical applications in a potentially hostile cyber environment.

▼ Current evidence supports the idea that children’s
physical activity is highly variable, and may be influenced by a
variety of factors. Potential factors known to alter children’s
physical activity behavior that were examined within this
dissertation include the use of mobile,
internet-connected devices
(e.g., tablet computers) or with whom children play (e.g., parents,
peers). Therefore, the purpose of Specific Aim1 was to measure
physical and sedentary activity with and without the presence of an
Apple iPad in a gymnasium. The purpose of Specific Aim #2 was to
measure children’s
physical and sedentary activity on an outdoor
playground during three conditions: playing alone, with their
parent participating, and with their friend participating. Twenty
children participated in each study where
physical and sedentary
activity was monitored. Results of Specific Aim #1 concluded that
children accumulated fewer accelerometer counts and increased their
sedentary behavior (p < 0.05) with the iPad present (1748 ± 1321
counts, 21.6 ± 13.5 min sitting) versus without the iPad present
(3328 ± 781 counts, 6.2 ± 5.0 min sitting). The results of Specific
Aim #2 concluded that children accumulated fewer sitting minutes
and greater
physical activity (p < 0.05) when playing with their
parent (2.7 ± 7 min sitting, 87503 ± 37063 counts) or friend (0.9 ±
1.4 min sitting, 93363 ± 22608 counts) versus when playing alone
(7.8 ± 8.2 min sitting, 70672 ± 35228 counts). These results
provide additional information when creating
physical activity
interventions with the overall goal of increasing children’s
physical activity behavior.
