High-speed loading of metals is encountered in several engineering applications, for example in crash and drop tests as well as in high-speed cutting or forming processes. Likewise, the impact of rapidly rotating structural components on their surrounding containment, encountered for instance in aircraft turbines, reveals significant, high loading velocities. Typically, this type of loading results in zones with highly localized deformation within the stressed component, as a consequence of softening according to damage evolution and heating due to plastic dissipation. In this context, the formation of shear-bands represents a typical form of thermomechanical localization. In general, the continuum mechanical description and modelling of such events involves a variety of processes and effects such as high strain-rates, hardening behaviour, thermal softening as a result of adiabatic heating, friction and contact as well as damage. Further, these effects need to be considered in the framework of large deformation theory. Rate-dependent "local" models do not generally result in a physical shear-band development, e.g., involving a finite, non-vanishing shear-band thickness. In general, the intrinsic length incorporated by the rate-dependency of the models acts as a localization limiter. However, for various nonlinearly rate-dependent models, such as power-law models or the model according to JOHNSON & COOK, which are frequently used for the simulation of high-speed loading applications, this intrinsic length tends to zero owing to both increasing strain-rates and stress-drop due to softening behaviour. Thus, a loss of the localization limiting property of these rate-dependent models is encountered, incorporating that each finite-element method based upon these models yields a pathological mesh-dependence of the results. "Non-local" gradient-plasticity models based on a corresponding extension of the rate-dependence of the material behaviour are appropriate to avoid these disadvantages. In contrast to local models, the intrinsic length of these non-local models reveals a significantly reduced dependence on both the prevailing stress state and the plastic strain-rate but is dominantly influenced by the non-local material parameter. According to the numerical simulation of localization phenomena using finite-element techniques, the domain of the localization zone does converge to a finite volume for subsequent mesh-refinement. Thus, using non-local models it is possible to simulate the development of finite shear-band widths and to ensure a physically reasonable solution of the governing problem within the framework of continuum mechanics.

▼ Eine wesentliche Aufgabe im heutigen Ingenieursalltag ist die optimale Auslegung und betriebsnahe Dimensionierung von technischen Bauteilen. Dabei wird im Rahmen der Bemessung eines Bauteils dem Aspekt Leichtbau eine zunehmende Bedeutung eingeräumt. Damit dennoch bei den geringen Sicherheitsreserven auftretende Lasten risikolos abgeleitet werden können und die Funktion der technischen Komponenten nicht beeinträchtigt wird, sind hochgenaue Vorhersagen zum Verhalten der physikalischen Systeme erforderlich. In diesem Kontext hat sich, getrieben durch die rasante Entwicklung der Computertechnologie, die computergestützte numerische Simulation als leistungsfähige Alternative zu standardisierten Berechnungsverfahren aus Regelwerken etabliert. Innerhalb dieser weitgehend in sich geschlossenen Ingenieursdisziplin nimmt die Methode der finiten Elemente aufgrund ihrer flexiblen Einsatzmöglichkeiten eine zentrale Rolle ein. Als integraler Bestandteil einer CAE-Prozesskette kommt die Finite-Elemente-Analyse durch Aufdeckung konstruktiver Schwachstellen bereits während der Konzeptabwägung einem Werkzeug der Prävention gleich, welches in erheblichem Maß dazu beiträgt, die wirtschaftlichen Anforderungen in Bezug auf eine Verkürzung der Entwicklungszeiten und Senkung der Herstellungskosten zu realisieren. Zu diesem Zweck ist die Weiterentwicklung von numerischen Verfahren zur effizienteren und präziseren Simulation Gegenstand zahlreicher aktiver Forschungsanstrengungen. Die Arbeit liefert einen Beitrag zur Entwicklung effizienter numerischer Lösungsstrategien im Bereich der Finite-Elemente-Methode. Unter diesem Gesichtspunkt werden in dieser Monographie im Rahmen einer modernen konsistenten Raum- und Zeitdiskretisierung die numerische Simulation thermomechanisch gekoppelter transienter Strukturberechnungen in der Dynamik sowie von Interfacekopplungen, mit Bezug zu geometrisch nichtlinearen unilateralen Kontaktproblemen, unter Einbeziehung von Konstitutivmodellen vom Evolutionsgleichungstyp umgesetzt. So sind konkret Zeitintegrationsverfahren höherer Ordnung in Gestalt von steif-genauen diagonal-impliziten Runge-Kutta Verfahren (DIRK) oder der Generalized- Methode in Verbindung mit einem Mehrebenen-Newton- Verfahren auf die raumdiskretisierten Gleichungen, die als Resultat der Raumdiskretisierung mit der h-Version der Finite-Elemente-Methode hervorgehen, und auf die in einem gewöhnlichen Differentialgleichungssystem erster Ordnung zusammengefassten Entwicklungsgleichungen für die inneren Variablen, welche das inelastische Materialverhalten adäquat beschreiben, angewendet worden. ▼ The aim of this study was to analyze the Corpus sterni using computed tomography and finite element analysis with the question, “whether certain sections of the bone could represent the mechanical characteristics of the whole bone.” This approach results from the clinical problem, that in Cardiac- thoracic Surgery a median sternotomy is often used to access the mediastinal structures and if postoperative complications such as sternal dehiscence occurs, a high mortality rate exists. In this study five human sterna were analyzed postmortem. The bones were put in a buffered formalin solution and then evacuated. Computed Tomography images were generated with the XtremeCT (Scanco Medical) using a resolution of 82 µm. The reconstruction and post- processing of the three-dimensional structure models was performed with the program Amira®. The xiphoid process was separated from the Corpus sterni. A total of three cubes were virtually taken from each sternum considering anatomical criteria. A finite element grid was generated for all samples and whole bones. Performing the finite element analysis, all models were transferred to the program Abaqus. After defining boundary conditions and material properties, force application was performed on all whole bone and cube samples. The detected strains and deformations were measured and represented through histograms and color-coding images. The mechanical behavior of the whole bone samples were contrasted with the cube samples in a ranking system. It was determined that analyzing with Von Mises Stress one cube sample at the articulation with the fifth left rib (cube 3) made the best correlation with the structure of the whole bone. Analysis with “Minimum Principal Strains” and structural parameters of the computed tomography showed little or no correlation. In conclusion, one cube sample of the Corpus sterni is a good representation of the mechanical behavior of the whole bone. This observation has to be validated in clinical studies. The analysis of bone quality of only one section of the bone could facilitate the introduction of a preoperative analysis for identifying patients with high risk for postoperative complications such as sternal dehiscence. ▼ Biomechanics of the atrophic mandible and its implant rehabilitation were analyzed with the finite element method. In correlation with the classification of the edentulous jaw by Cawood, four models of the atrophic mandible were designed. 70 designs with and without implant retained dentures were simulated during frontal and lateral bite. Mandibular flexure was measured and stresses and strains were calculated for the mandibular bone by simulation. An evaluation of strain was performed, applying Frost’s mechanonstat hypothesis. According to the hypothesis of Frost, regions of disuse remodeling, conservation remodeling, bone deposition and microfractures were identified. The edentulous jaw without denture showed a significant increase on mandibular flexure with increase of the degree of atrophy. Mandibular flexure was three times as high, comparing severe level of atrophy compared to low level of atrophy. By applying implant retained dentures, mandibular flexure decreased significantly. However, bone quality appeared to have low influence on mandibular flexure (<30%) at severe level of atrophy. The special morphological patterns of atrophy can be explained with the biomechanical analysis in this work. Accelerated atrophy appears at low level of atrophy and stagnates with increased degree of atrophy. Comparison of removable overdentures on interforaminal implants with splinted cantilever bridge framework shows a significant increase of biomechanical risk when applying a rigid, non-removable denture. Removable dentures with good fit to implants and to supporting gum showed subcritical stresses and strains and just a slight increase with degree of atrophy. Comparison of a splinted circular bridge framework on six implants to a divided bride in the region of the canines shows a significant increase of mandibular flexure when divided. In contradiction to expected results, the divided bridge framework has a lower biomechanical performance as the periimplant strain increases significantly. ▼ Periprosthetic fractures represent a relevant clinical problem. Currently, the incidence is indicated with 0.1% - 4.1% for primary implantations and 2.8% - 4% following revision surgery. With regard to the demographic change, the number of cases will continue to rise. Thus, periprosthetic fractures are and will remain a substantial burden on the healthcare system. The majority of previously published clinical studies clearly demonstrate that in addition to post-operative infections, implant failure is one of the leading complications following surgical treatment of these injuries. This provides a major challenge for the treating surgeon. The results of our clinical studies have shown that the majority of patients do not reach the functional level prior to the fracture. This is especially evident in the degree of postoperative mobility, in which the persons concerned are mostly dependent on walking aids. Analysis of the clinical results showed for the first time, however, that the functional outcome as well as the patient-specific quality of life are independent of the type of surgical treatment performed. It seems that a complication-free postoperative course is much more essential to influence these parameters. Against this background, the experimental studies have been designed, which deal with the critical aspects of the periprosthetic fracture stabilization: the implant anchorage in the area of the prosthesis itself as well as to optimize the biomechanical environment in comminuted and simple fracture types. The aim was to reduce the rate of mechanical complications by optimizing the osteosynthetic anchorage and the mechanobiologic environment while preserving the principles of biological osteosynthesis to fully exploit the healing potential of each individual patient. The critical implant anchorage in the inset of prosthetic components represents one of the fundamental weaknesses of the osteosynthetic reconstruction. Polyaxial bicortical screw anchorage in the area of the prosthetic stem clearly showed its superiority over the monocortical monoaxial anchoring. We were able to demonstrate for the first time, that in the event of implant failure the bicortical screw fixation leads to complex fracture patterns, which significantly complicates or even precludes revision surgery. However, this type of anchorage is already widely used in clinical practice. First studies documenting the results of this technique show promising results. It remains uncleare whether the experimentally proven problem will actually result in a clinical one. Nevertheless, the results of our study should be adhered to and it is recommended that possible screw channels and -angulations should be checked by imaging methods preoperatively. Complex fracture patterns are treated according to the current concept of bridging osteosynthesis. The aim is to create a biomechanical environment that stimulates the formation of callus. ▼ Znalosti o dynamických vlastnostech jsou základní předpoklady pro bezpečný provoz moderních výrobních strojů. Získání numerických metod ke zprostředkování dynamických vlastností stoupají na významu. Výpočet komplexních struktur je přesto možný pouze s nedostačující přesností. Pro výpočet již vznikajících mechanických systémů nabízí strukturní optimalizace možné zlepšení analytického přístupu. V rámci předložené práci je jedna taková strukturní optimalizace provedena na příkladu konceptu stroje s hybridní kinematikou “Scherenkinematik“. Přitom jsou nejdříve vyhodnoceny výsledky experimentální modální analýzy, zjištění modálních parametrů a odvození možné modifikace struktury. V druhé části následuje sestavení náhradního FE-modelu stroje v programu ANSYS Mechanical. Optimalizace struktury je provedena následně pomocí spojení program°u ANSYS a FEMtools. Z toho byly sestaveny dva optimalizační přístupy, které byly dále zpracovány. Ukázalo se, že jak s tak také bez spojitého omezení prostoru hledaných pro párování tvar kmitu, nebylo dosaženo žádné zlepšení korelace analytického a experimentálního modelu. Z výsledků optimalizace lze usoudit, že průběh a výsledky optimalizace jsou závislé od kvality výchozího modelu, vybraného přístupu optimalizace tak jako využité metody k přizpůsobení parametrů. Přitom je program FEMtools jen podmíněně určen pro strukturní analýzu silně spojených mechanických struktur a to pro nasazenou citlivosti analýzu.; Knowledge about the dynamic behaviour is a basic condition for a secure operation of modern machine tools. Hence numerical methods predicting the dynamic properties are gaining in importance. Usually for complex and coupled structures, the results of dynamic property calculation are yet insufficient. Therefore Finite Element model updating is a tool to improve the hypothetical factor of the analysis. Within the present thesis Finite Element modelling is performed using the example of the “Scherenkinematik”, a machine tool based on hybrid-kinematics. Initially the results of an Experimental Modal Analysis are evaluated by identifying Modal parameters and deriving possible structural modifications. In the second part of the thesis, the machines Finite Element model is created using the FEA-Software ANSYS. Afterwards the Finite Element model updating is performed by coupling ANSYS and the CAE-Software FEMtools. Therefore two approaches are formulated and tracked. It turns out, that there is no improvement of the analytical and experimental models correlation, neighter with nor without a steady reduction of the search domain needed for mode coupling. It is reasoned, that the characteristics and the results of an Finite Element updating process are affected by the quality of the model at start time and the approach as well as the technique chosen for model updating and parameter modification. Das Frequenz- und Abstrahlverhalten von Ultraschallwandlern beeinflusst den Einsatz und die Ansteuerung der Systeme für die Abstandsmessung. Verlässliche Aussagen über ihr Verhalten werden durch eine umfassende, realitätsnahe und verifizierte Simulation der Ultraschallwandler ermöglicht. Wesentlicher Bestandteil der Simulation ist die Anwendung der Finite-Elemente-Methode, die durch weitere Berechnungsverfahren unterstützt wird. Die modular aufgebaute Simulationsrech-nung besteht aus den Phasen Spektrogramm-, Verschiebungsprofil- und Schallfeldberechnung. Die Schalldruckverteilung im Fernfeld und deren Druckmaxima in Abhängigkeit von der Frequenz werden mithilfe der Näherungslösung nach dem Huygen-Fresnelschen-Integral berechnet. Die Verifikation der Teilergebnisse wird durch die experimentellen Untersuchungen Schallpegelmessung, Laserinterferometrie und Schallfeldmessung möglich. Die Da-tenbasis wird durch bereits publizierte Kennwerte sowie durch Experimente mit selbst gefertigten Ultraschallwandlern ergänzt. Die ersten Vergleiche der Ergebnisse aus Simulation und Experiment weisen in eine erfolgversprechende Richtung. In der Weiterführung dieser Arbeit wäre eine anwendungsspezifische, kurzfristige und preisgünstige Wandlerherstellung denkbar, bei der Dank zuverlässiger Simula-tionsergebnisse auf umfangreiche experimentelle Untersuchungen verzichtet werden könnte.

The frequency and radiation behaviour of ultrasonic transducers affects the employment and the control of the systems for the distance measurement. Reliable statements about their behaviour are made possible by a comprehensive, close-to-reality and verified simulation of the ultrasonic transducers. A substantial component of the simulation is the application of the finite element method, which is supported by further computation methods. The modularly designed simulation calculation consists of the following phases: spectrogram, displacement field, sound field computation. The sound pressure distribution in the far field and their pressure maxima as a function of the frequency are calculated by means of the approximation solution after the Huygen Fresnel integral. The verification of the partial results is made possible by the experimental investigations of sound level measurement, laser interferometry and sound field measurement. The database is supplemented by characteristic values already published as well as by experiments with self-manufactured ultrasonic transducers. The first comparisons of the results of simulation and experiment are promising. In the continuation of this work a user-specific, short-term and low-priced transducer production might be conceivable even without extensive experimental investigations thanks to reliable simulation results.

A steady state rolling process of an elastic-plastic work-hardening body is formulated as a unilateral rolling contact problem taking dry friction into account. The formulation of this steady state rolling contact problem leads to a minimization of a variational nonlinear functional. Within the framework of the active set strategy a two dimensional roll contact algorithm is developed, including a slip model of Coulomb friction. The use of a penalty regularization of the kinematic contact constraint together with the nite 121 192 148 205 element method is applied to solve the problem. The unknown distributions of the pressure and traction on the contact surface are evaluated from the contact forces using a lumped transformation method. Numerical simulations with the new developed roll contact algorithm are carried out to study the deformation behavior of the workpiece as well as the contact stress distributions. To indicate the inuence of friction, stick-slip zones in the contact region and the subsurface stress distribution in the workpiece are depicted as well.

In der vorliegenden Arbeit wird ein stationärer Walzprozess eines elastisch-plastischen Körpers mit Materialverfestigung als unilateraler Rollkontakt unter Berücksichtigung trockener Festkörperreibung formuliert. Die mathematische Beschreibung des stationären Rollkontakts führt auf die Minimierung eines nichtlinearen Variationsfunktionals. Im Rahmen der Active-Set-Strategie wird ein zweidimensionaler Rollkontakt-Algorithmus entwickelt, in den ein Coulomb'sches Gleitreibungsmodell integriert ist. Unter Anwendung einer Penalty-Regularisierung der geometrischen Rollkontaktbedingungen wird das Problem mit Hilfe der Finite-Elemente-Methode näherungsweise gelöst. Die unbekannten Verteilungen von Normal- und Tangentialspannung in der Kontaktoberfläche werden aus der Transformation der Kontaktknotenkräfte mit Hilfe einer diagonalisierten Kontaktflächenmatrix berechnet. Anhand numerischer Simulationen wird das Verformungsverhalten des Walzguts sowie Kontaktspannungsverteilungen mit dem neu entwickelten Rollkontaktalgorithmus untersucht. Um den Einfluss der Reibung zu zeigen, sind auch die Haft- und Gleitzonen in der Kontaktfläche und die oberflächennahen Spannungsverteilungen im Walzgut dargestellt.

▼ Die elektromagnetische Umformung (EMU) basiert auf der Induktions- und Kraftwirkung eines zeitlich schnell veränderlichen impulsförmigen Magnetfeldes auf ein gut leitfähiges Material. Sie wird bereits seit mehr als 50 Jahren im Bereich der Umformung von rohrförmigen Werkstücken industriell eingesetzt. Dagegen ist die Anwendung bei der Blechumformung bis heute nur unzureichend möglich. Die vorliegende Arbeit leistet einen Beitrag zum Verständnis der elektromagnetischen Wirkmechanismen und der Möglichkeiten der numerischen Berechnung der Blechumformung. Aufgrund der geometrischen Gegebenheiten und der sehr hohen Dynamik während der Umformung ist es messtechnisch kaum möglich, die wirksame Feld- und Stromdichteverteilung im Werkzeug und im Werkstück zu erfassen. Die numerische Berechnung der Feldgrößen ist daher unerlässlich. Dabei muss insbesondere die Wechselwirkung zwischen den elektrodynamischen und den strukturmechanischen Vorgängen beachtet werden. Die Simulation des gesamten Prozesses stellt ein notwendiges Hilfsmittel dar, um das Umformergebnis bestimmen zu können, ohne auf kosten- und zeitintensive Experimente ausweichen zu müssen. In der vorliegenden Arbeit wurden daher bestehende Simulationswerkzeuge so erweitert, dass die gekoppelte transiente elektrodynamische-strukturmechanische Berechnung möglich ist. Die Wechselwirkung zwischen der Geometrieänderung und der daraus resultierenden Feld- und Stromdichteverteilung wird bei der Simulation erfasst. Es wurden sowohl vorhandene kommerzielle Programme als auch nicht-kommerzielle Software verwendet. Anschliessend wurden mit den unterschiedlichen Programmsystemen eine Vielzahl von Berechnungen auf Basis unterschiedlicher Modelle und unterschiedlicher Kopplungstrategien durchgeführt. Eine vereinfachte transiente zweidimensionale Berechnung ohne Berücksichtigung der Geometrieänderung ergab erste Erkenntnisse über die Feld- und Stromdichteverteilung. Sie basiert auf einem Vierwellenmischprozess in Quecksilberdampf mit Fundamentalstrahlen bei 253,7 nm, 407,9 nm und 545,5 nm Wellenlänge. Diese fundamentalen Strahlen werden durch frequenzverdoppelte bzw. frequenzvervierfachte Festkörperlasersysteme bereit gestellt. Durch das Ausnutzen der 6^1S-7^1S Zweiphotonenresonanz und zusätzlich der 6^1S-6^3P Einphotonenresonanz kann der Vierwellenmischprozess deutlich effizienter betrieben werden als zuvor. Eine nahe Einphotonenresonanz verringert die optimale Phasenanpassungstemperatur des Vierwellenmischprozesses, wodurch Druck- und Stoßverbreiterungen des Quecksilbers verkleinert und damit der nichtlineare Prozess effizienter wird. So können Leistungen bis zu 0,3 nW bei 121,56 nm, dem 1S-2P Lyman-alpha Übergang von Wasserstoff, erzeugt werden. Diese Lyman-alpha Quelle soll für die zukünftige Laserkühlung von Antiwasserstoff genutzt werden. rnrnNeben der Generierung von Strahlung bei Lyman-alpha kann, durch Veränderung der dritten Fundamentalwellenlänge, auch Strahlung in der Nähe zu einer Einphotonresonanz im VUV bei dem 6^1S-12^1P Übergang in Quecksilber durch Vierwellenmischen erzeugt werden. Durch diese weitere Einphotonresonanz kann die nichtlineare Suszeptibilität, verantwortlich für das Vierwellenmischen, stark vergrößert werden, ohne Einfluss auf die Phasenanpassung zu haben. Damit lässt sich der Mischprozess um drei Größenordnungen effizienter gestalten und Leistungen von 6 µW im VUV konnten realisiert werden. Dies entspricht einer Leistungsteigerung um einen Faktor 30 im Vergleich zu früheren Quellen. rnrnDarüberhinaus konnte die Zweiphotonenresonanz in Quecksilber ausführlich untersucht werden. Man erhält bei kleinen Rabifrequenzen der Fundamentalstrahlen eine geschwindigkeitsselektive Doppelresonanz, die den gleichen Ursprung wie Dunkelresonanzen in Lambda-Systemen hat. Bei hohen Rabifrequenzen kann die Anregung in das Zweiphotonenniveau so stark werden, dass auf dem 7^1S-6^1P Übergang ein Laserprozess initiiert wird. Dieser Prozess wurde hier zum ersten Mal mit kontinuierlichen Fundamentallasern nachgewiesen. Es wird gezeigt, dass der zusätzliche Laserprozess das Vierwellenmischen nicht beeinträchtigt.

A continuous, coherent radiation source in the vacuum ultraviolet spectral region is presented. It is based on four-wave-mixing in mercury vapor with fundamental beams at 253.7 nm, 407.9 nm und 545.5 nm wavelength. The fundamental beams are produced by frequency doubling and quadrupling of beams from solid-state laser-systems respectively. Due to the 6^1S-7^1S two-photon resonance and additionally the 6^1S-6^3P one-photon resonance the efficiency can be increased compared to former sources. The thesis deals with the control of torsional oscillations in drill strings. Self-excited torsional oscillations occur due to friction and complex coupling between the torsional,axial and lateral drill string dynamics. The focus is on the control of friction-induced torsional oscillations in the drill string. In this work the torsional oscillations caused by the Stribeck effect of friction are studied using an experimental setup that is designed and built for the purpose. The experimental setup is a scaled model of a 150m long drill string bottom hole assembly. A nonlinear finite dimensional two degree of freedom model is used to mathematically model and simulate the drill string. The system identification of the experimental drill string setup is undertaken using the trust region reflective nonlinear least square algorithm. Extensive validations of the model using the estimated parameters are performed. It is observed that the identified model reproduces the measured response with some error. The variable nature of friction makes exact system identification unlikely. To overcome this adaptive and robust backstepping control algorithms are devised for the drill string torsional oscillation control. Furthermore, to be able to implement the control algorithms in the experimental setup where not all the states are available for feedback, observer based nonlinear controllers are designed. A tuning function based adaptive observer backstepping control algorithm is first evaluated but is not robust to the measurement noise therefore a robust nonlinear observer based control algorithm known as dynamic surface control is devised. The closed loop stability of the dynamic surface control algorithm and designed observer is established. The combination of the dynamic surface control with the observer used is to the best of the author’s knowledge novel contribution to the literature on drill string control. The dynamic surface control successfully attenuated torsional oscillations due to stick slip in the experimental setup and avoided exciting higher frequency vibrations in the setup.

Selbst aufgeregt Torsionsschwingungen treten aufgrund von Reibung und komplexer Kopplung zwischen Torsions-, Axial- und Querbohrstrangdynamik auf. Der Fokus liegt auf der Steuerung von reibungsbedingten Torsionsschwingungen im Bohrstrang. In dieser Arbeit die Torsion Schwingungen, die durch den Stribeck-Effekt der Reibung verursacht werden, werden mit einem Experiment untersucht Setup, das für diesen Zweck entwickelt und gebaut wurde. Der Versuchsaufbau ist a maßstabsgetreues Modell einer 150 m langen Bohrstrangbohrung.
