new generation of employees working in emerging enterprises.
We use semi-structured interviews of research method to investigate eight cases of the
new generation regarding their job choice with low salary in the emerging enterprises that are uncertain about their future development. Followings are the conclusions of the research:
1) Making enough money is not the primary concern of the
new generation.
New generation choose their job primarily based on their interests. They use social media as the main channel to attend company activities and job hunting processes.
2) As compared with traditional
generation,
new generation who chooses to work based on their interest is usually more engaged in their job. They work harder and are willing to pursue further work achievements.
3) With financial backup from parents, salary is not the primary concern of the
new generation. Do what they like, enjoy their life and pursue self-achievements are the most important considerations for
new generation in their job searching.
4) With personal interest as the main consideration for job selection,
new generation
tend to enjoy what they do in their job and is more willing to work overtime. On the other hand, if employees choose their job with low personal interests, companies will have difficulties with employees working overtime or in undesirable
work shift hours.

▼ The Millennial
Generation, typically agreed upon by researchers to be those born from 1982 through 2000, displays exclusive characteristics making it truly different from other previous generations. As of 2000, this
generation comprised about one fourth of the total US population, making this cohort's attributes demand consideration. The Millennials are quickly becoming a large factor in the workforce, now finishing college and becoming active consumers in the economy; hence, rapidly becoming a large portion of the traveling population as well. Because this
generation is the first to be exposed to the Internet from birth, generally retain positive, trusting views of companies, and have a constant need to congregate with friends and family, questions arise regarding how and to whom Millennials complain, possibly engaging in negative electronic word-of-mouth. Negative e-WOM is especially pertinent to the travel industry due to the potentially extensive harmful outcomes it can cause for practitioners.
Therefore, an explanatory study was conducted with a research design that applied a qualitative approach in efforts to gain further insight to the complaint behaviors of the Millennial
Generation. Research questions to whom Millennials complain were asked, as well as how and why Millennials complain in certain ways. Findings indicate Millennials typically voice complaints to friends and parents in efforts to discuss their emotions concerning the complaint and obtain their advice on the complaint. In the rare cases where Millennials do complain directly to the company, the relational aspects, convenience, and quickness of response the media offers influence which media Millennials use to issue the compliant.

▼ The ability to maintain high yields for barley production in Ireland is
crucial for the indigenous brewing industry. However, high yields are threatened
by global climate change, as Ireland is predicted to have increased flooding
events. In consequence, the identification and development of barley varieties
that are more tolerant to waterlogging has become an important research focus.
The N-end rule protein degradation pathway has been shown to play an
important role in the response of plants to flooding in Arabidopsis thaliana.
Based on sequence similarities, N-end rule components were identified in barley
and used as targets to develop new cultivars with increased waterlogging
tolerance. Also, barley varieties that are part of AGOUEB population were
tested for their waterlogging tolerance. Gene expression together with
physiological parameters such as plant height, tiller number, chlorophyll content
and root architecture were assessed in order to select varieties that are more
tolerant to waterlogging

▼ Background
This descriptive exploratory study was undertaken to ascertain the views of Generation Y New Zealand Registered Nurses (Gen Y nurses) towards nursing, work and career. Little empirical data exists about why young New Zealanders choose to become nurses in the 21st century. Further, little is known about their future career plans or their intentions to remain in the nursing workforce. Currently there is a global nursing workforce shortage with indications that shortages will continue into the future. The nursing shortage is occurring at a time when many populations are ageing and placing unprecedented demands on both health care providers and health care systems. Not only are populations ageing, the burden of chronic disease is escalating. However, there is strong evidence highlighting positive patient outcomes when nursing care is provided by registered nurses. Therefore the long term retention of young nurses is of critical importance for both the health care consumer and the profession.
Method
A nationwide on-line survey was undertaken with 358 Gen Y Nurses from late 2009 to early 2010.
Key findings
Young New Zealanders are driven by traditional values of altruism, the desire to care for others, the ability to work closely with people, as well as being able to make a strong contribution to society when deciding to become a nurse. Further, they are seeking interesting, challenging and exciting work. Job security, the ongoing demand for nurses, the ability to leave and return, as well as the ability to combine work and family, are also important factors that help them to choose to become nurses.
The Gen Y nurses were overwhelmingly satisfied with their decision to become nurses but they are very clear that nursing does not define them. They appear set to remain in the profession for at least five years with many stating that they wish to increase their clinical skills as well as undertake formal postgraduate study. However, while the Gen Y nurses demonstrated a high level of affective commitment towards nursing, they do not show a high level of continuance or normative commitment. It is questionable if they have long term career plans to remain in nursing.
Further, the Gen Y nurses find nursing work to be more stressful and challenging than they anticipated. They expressed concern about nursing salaries, workplace bullying and the impact of shift work on their private lives. They are also concerned about the apparent lack of recognition demonstrated by managers and management of the contribution that nurses make to patient care. A further concern for Gen Y nurses is the lack of understanding by the public about the role of registered nurses.
Conclusion
Most young New Zealanders who decide to become nurses do not regret their decision to do so. They have chosen to become nurses because of their desire to care for others in a team focused environment with a promise of job security. Many Gen Y nurses are planning on advancing their careers by increasing their clinical skills and academic…

The emergence and evolution of Next Generation Networks (NGN) have raised several challenges mainly in terms of heterogeneity, mobility and security. In fact, the user is able, in such environment, to have access to many networks, via multiple devices, with a vast choice of services offered by different providers. Furthermore, end-users claim to be constantly connected anywhere, anytime and anyhow. Besides, they want to have a secure access to their services through a dynamic, seamless and continuous session according to their preferences and the desired QoS. In this context, security represents an important concern. In fact, this user-centric session should obviously be secured. However, many challenges arise. In such environment, system boundaries, which were well delimited, become increasingly open. Indeed, there are multiple services which are unknown in advance and multiple communications between services and with users. Besides, heterogeneity of involved resources (terminals, networks and services) in the user session increases the complexity of security tasks. In addition, the different types of mobility (user, terminal, network and service mobility) affect the user-centric session that should be unique, secure and seamless and ensure continuity of services.

Speed and rhythm in organizations can be examined from different perspectives
and disciplines. The purpose of this work project is to investigate a theme that has been
gaining relevance over the last few decades in Organizational Sciences: how people
cope with speed and rhythm at work. Twenty-four employees, from two generations, of
various hierarchical levels from a wide range of organizations were interviewed. Net
Generation and Baby Boom Generation, the two generations in question, were analysed
in equal proportions to find reliable differences in their perceptions. Significant findings
were attained after analysing the results: a) Different generations have similar
perceptions about speed and rhythm at work; b) Technology encourages networks
producing a lack of boundaries and it challenges traditional ways of work management.
At first, this difference appears to be a generational perception but it is not; c) Net
Generation is used to perform multitasking, as a method to deal with high speed and
rhythm, while Boom Generation, in general, do not feel capable of doing it; d) Although
most people agree with the Slow Movements philosophy, which stands for a reduction
of speed and rhythm in life, they generally believe it is very hard to practice it as a
standard way of living.

▼ About 45% of China’s roughly 145 million floating migrant population works in the manufacturing industry, and the majority of them were born after 1980. This was a landmark year for the country as it transform from a socialist, centralized and planned economy to a more or less market-oriented economy with so-called “Chinese characteristics.” The intersection of this
new generation of migrant workers and the global market through the medium of manufacturing has become a
subject of great interest to people around the world and in China, who seek to understand their unique personal and work arenas.
This paper provides a comprehensive picture of the young migrant workers’ work and lives in a factory setting based on survey and in-depth interview data collected in a medium-size Shenzhen-based electronics factory in May 2010. It explores their social expectations and suffering; their satisfactions and dissatisfactions as production-line workers; and their future goals. The findings show that the
new generation migrant workers migrate more out of individual preferences than family needs. They are primarily leaving home to seek independence more than economic returns, and they perceive factory work as the first stop on a long journey of establishing themselves in society.
If
Leaving, Remitting and
Returning are the three key words that categorize the old
generation of migrant workers who were born before 1980, then
Leaving, Searching and
Becoming are the main themes for the
new generation who were born after 1980. Like their parents’
generation, they are transient in nature, but more in the sense of juggling between career choices rather than round-tripping between rural home and urban work.

▼ The Taranaki Basin is a large (ca. 330,000 km²) sedimentary basin found along the west coast of the northern island of
New Zealand. The basin lies partly onshore but mostly offshore below the broad continental shelf to the west of central North Island. The Taranaki Basin is the first sedimentary basin to be explored in
New Zealand and is currently
New Zealand’s only hydrocarbon producing basin, with approximately 418 million barrels (MMbbl) of oil and 6190 billion cubic feet (bcf) of gas produced by the end of 2011. Most of
New Zealand’s known oil and gas accumulations are geochemically typed to coaly facies of Late Cretaceous and Paleogene ages. The main objective of this thesis is to characterize the source rock quality of the organic rich intervals of the Taranaki Basin, namely, the Wainui Member of the North Cape Formation and the Rakopi Formation. The Rakopi Formation comprises terrestrially deposited coal measures, while the North Cape Formation is generally composed of marine rocks. These Formations make up the Pakawau Group. The objective will be achieved using two key methods. Firstly, the derivation of TOC logs using Passey’s log overlay method (Passey et al., 1990) and secondly, the
generation of source rock quality maps (i.e. source rock richness mapping and source potential index mapping). This will integrate concepts relating to petrophysical wireline logs, seismic interpretation, core log information, geochemical analysis, depth mapping and isopach mapping. The results obtained from this study confirms the petroleum potential of the organic rich intervals of the Taranaki Basin. Using Passey’s method it was shown that excellent average percent TOC values are encountered for both the Wainui Member of the North Cape Formation and the Rakopi Formation. From source potential index mapping, it can be concluded that the Rakopi formation has a high source potential index (>1000SPI) on the continental shelf, which indicates that it has excellent potential for petroleum
generation. The Wainui Member however, shows less potential for petroleum
generation on the shelf, this being attributed to generally low net thicknesses on the shelf.

▼ The aim of this thesis was to describe the expectations that 1.5 generation immigrants perceive their parents expectations for them and their future. The researcher interviewed the experiences of twelve young adolescents who immigrated to New Zealand between the ages of 6 and 12. The researcher used a semi-structured interview to allow participants to freely discuss their experiences while staying true to the aims of the research. The study was conducted in Christchurch, New Zealand. The interviews were recorded on audio, transcribed and analysed. Each transcript was coded and themes were extracted from each interview. Similar themes were grouped into categories which were then discussed as part of the results. The most common expectations reported by participants were in the areas of education and high academic achievement. The effects of these expectations varied as participants grew older and the length of time residing in New Zealand increased. The results are discussed and also compared to studies of 1.5 generation immigrants in the United States. Finally, the implications of this study are discussed, and the relevance of the results to the well-being of the 1.5 generation in New Zealand are suggested.

▼ The years 1853- 1854 were a period when new ideologies and notions concerning all the aspects of public life were eagerly received by a large part of the population, especially the younger ones. The vision of the Megali Idea co-exists with the Greek Empire as well as the development and cultural mission of Greece, and the Federation emerges. In the field of politics and administration- both on central and regional scale- corruption, clientelism and the intervention of the king are severely criticized. The reaction resulted in the incubation of a liberal tendency, the “wearing out” of political parties, the new generation, and the adoption of proposals for changes in the political and social structures in a period when modernization and development were demanding implementation. Favourable to this purpose proved the migration to big cities as well as the reduction of the illiterate, although there was no significant innovation in the field of education. The same situation appeared with the reorganization of the army which was deterred by financial recession. The intentions and planning of development and infrastructure are either gradually realized after the relevant laws have been passed, or their construction begins. However, they are not going to be completed before the next decade. The Greeks counted on the support of Europe and America in order to safeguard constitutional governance and expansion. As regards the national claims, in 1854 there was an armed revolt aiming at the realization of the Megali Idea mainly in Epirus, Thessaly, Macedonia and some areas of the Ottoman Empire, without taking into account the European diplomatic situation. What followed was the occupation of the Greek ports, with few reactions against French and English forces from both military and civilians, and provision for the refugees. To conclude, in the years 1853-1854 the vision of modernization and probably the means to achieve it were clear. However social circumstances were not yet favourable.

As per the identified aim and objectives of this research study, the following research questions are formulated:
What is the profile of
Generation Z based on an Auckland,
New Zealand sample population?
What is the level of work engagement of
Generation Z and
Generation Y based on an Auckland,
New Zealand sample population?
What is the level of vigor, dedication and absorption of
Generation Z and
Generation Y based on an Auckland,
New Zealand sample population?
Are some of the known profile characteristics of
Generation Z true or false in an Auckland,
New Zealand context?
ABSTRACT:
A
new workforce (
Generation Z born between 1995 and after) has started to enter the workforce which is going to increase their presence in the workplace with each passing year. There is a need to know what this
generation prefers, needs and expects from their workplace. Their outlook towards the work-related aspects is also very important. An individual’s characteristics can influence his/her approach towards his/her work and the workplace. This can get reflected in their levels of work engagement. Though it is not always possible to delve deeper into the characteristics of each employee in the workplace on a regular basis, a need is to at least determine these aspects at the generational cohort level. This can help organizations and HR practitioners in formulating
new workplace policies and in reviewing the current ones.
This research study is attempting to identify the profile characteristics of
Generation Z and their work engagement levels in Auckland,
New Zealand. Though this research study is predominantly focusing on
Generation Z, it is considered to compare work engagement of
Generation Z (
new generation) with work engagement of
Generation Y (previous
generation born between 1980 and 1994) as the latter is going to be in the workplace for many more years, they are relatively experienced and are not very far away from
Generation Z in terms of age gap.
A quantitative methodology approach is adopted to embark on a scientific enquiry. Both parametric and non-parametric statistical methods are used in understanding the data and for the hypothesis testing. Help is taken from descriptive and inferential statistical methods to analyse the data. Two separate questionnaires are used for the data collection. One questionnaire is used to determine the profile of
Generation Z in Auckland and the other one i.e. Utrecht Work Engagement Scale (UWES) is used to determine the levels of work engagement of both generations. The data is collected by using self-reported questionnaires.
The effect sizes and the confidence interval levels have also been computed to obtain practical relevance of the findings. Further, the analysis is extended to the gender level to find any significant statistical difference between the gender groups of both generations. The result findings allowed a deeper discussion by reviewing these findings in light of the literature. This
deeper investigation and discussion further…

▼ The New Zealand Symphony Orchestra [NZSO] are experiencing a declining audience and need to re-evaluate their position within the New Zealand cultural landscape. One of the key challenges for the NZSO is finding ways to engage new, younger audiences and foster relationships with them into the future.
The intention of this research is to explore new ways that the NZSO can create and maintain connections with the millennial audience. My exploration began by researching what barriers currently prevent younger audiences from engaging with the NZSO. My approach combined ethnography, observation, and semi-structured interviews to investigate the NZSO experience. The findings highlighted that millennials value experiences that are discoverable, open-ended, and shareable. This research provides a framework for exploring engagement and interaction between the NZSO and millennials.
NZSO:experiments employs a dynamic audio-visual communication system that facilitates a connection between the NZSO and new, younger audiences. The system is an interactive experience which intrigues, attracts, and engages an audience while fostering new connections with millennials through the use of already familiar social spaces. NZSO:experiments sets out to change perceptions around the NZSO by creating points of engagement that appeal to millennials and the way they digest experiences.

▼ Abstract
The video game consoles was accompanied with players for decades, from the video game consoles of the first
generation that have simple screen and hardware, to the video game consoles of the seventh
generation that have exquisite screen, online functions, and excellent hardware, players have deep impressions on these video game consoles of every
generation. In the market of
new generation video game consoles, Wii was favored with consumers after Nintendo began to sale it, because we could use the motion controller to control the games. However, the gap of the quantities of
new generation video game consoles was narrowed by the SONY and Microsoft after they started to offer motion controllers, the Playstation Move for PS3 and Kinect for XBOX 360. Therefore, understandingthe factors that affect the intention of X and Y
generation consumers, the main consuming group of video game consoles, to purchase
new generation video game consoles is the important thing for corporations.
We add perceived playfulness and portraits of the
new generation into Technology Acceptance Model (TAM) and modify TAM to discuss the factors to affect the intention of X and Y
generation consumers to purchase
new generation video consoles. The total research effective tests are 202 copies.
The conclusions of this study are presented as follows:
1. X
generation consumers pay more attention to perceive usefulness, and Y
generation consumers pay more attention to perceived playfulness.
2. Variables that affect X and Y
generation consumers most are perceived usefulness, perceived playfulness, portraits of video game consoles and intention of use.
3. TAM is confirmed that itâs suitable for the study on video game consoles.

▼ This thesis is in two parts. The first section is a
poetry collection called How to Explain This, and the second
section is a critical essay that explores the questions of how
Susan Wicks and Jo Shapcott typify the
New Generation's attention
to body and difference. My critical essay takes its cues from the
academic fields of Cultural Disability Studies and Medical
Humanities, and understands disabled identities to be both
constructed and porous. It considers the influence of cultural
scholars such as Judith Butler, who influenced how we consider the
fixity of boundaries and identities. By concentrating on the
collections Open Diagnosis by Susan Wicks and Of Mutability by Jo
Shapcott, it argues that both poets borrow from the context of
Disability Rights and Culture, as well as the attention to the body
that was popular among The
New Generation of Poets in the
1990s-2010s. This period of social and legislative changes in
British law meant that the attention on disabled bodies was
increasing. Wicks and Shapcott's collections incorporate the
heightened visibility of disabled bodies in this period. They write
authoritatively about their experience of illness and disability by
encompassing multiple cultural, academic and legislative
perspectives. Additionally, by using scientific language and
imagery Wicks and Shapcott present collections that incorporate a
variety of perspectives on disability distinct to the strict
demarcation of identities found in critical work. Instead Wicks and
Shapcott rely on the use of myth and culture to present rounded and
complex illustrations of "deviant" bodies. How to Explain This is
divided into three sections and explores the interconnected themes
of love, identity and disability through a series of sequences.
This poetry collection incorporates similar ideas to the critical
work, rejecting simple and straightforward identities. Instead, How
to Explain This considers how disability is affected by
relationships, family and other life events, in poems which
construct and reflect on difference and stigma.

▼ Accelerated bridge construction (ABC) utilizes advanced planning,
new construction techniques, and innovative detailing to facilitate construction. ABC offers many advantages over conventional construction, the most important of which is the reduction of onsite construction time. Even though ABC has been widely used in low seismic regions of the country mostly in superstructure, application of ABC in seismic areas has been limited due to the lack of seismic performance data regarding substructure connections. The main objective of this study was to develop
new ABC connections for bridge columns using novel detailing and advanced materials. Three low-damage materials were incorporated: ultra-high performance concrete (UHPC), Nickel-Titanium shape memory alloy (NiTi SMA), and engineered cementitious composite (ECC). Furthermore, two types of mechanical bar splices, grouted coupler and headed bar coupler, were utilized. UHPC-filled duct connections were developed and evaluated through 14 pullout tests. A
new detailing was proposed for grouted coupler column end connections to enhance the drift capacity. Three half-scale precast column models were tested under slow reversed cyclic loading, each with a
new precast element connection or low-damage plastic hinge. A material model was developed for reinforcing superelastic NiTi SMA bars. Furthermore,
new simple methods were developed to account for bond-slip effects and bar debonding effects in analytical models of reinforced concrete members. It was found that bar bond strength in UHPC is eight times higher than that in conventional concrete. UHPC-filled duct connections exhibited no damage even under 12% drift ratio cycles. The displacement capacity and displacement ductility capacity for the grouted coupler column were respectively increased by 47 and 56% compared to grouted coupler column models investigated previously. Longitudinal bar debonding allowed spread of yielding and prevented premature failure of reinforcements in UHPC-filled duct connections and grouted coupler column pedestal. The SMA-reinforced ECC column showed superior seismic performance compared to a conventional column in which the plastic hinge damage was limited to only ECC cover spalling even under 12% drift ratio cycles. The column residual displacements were 79% lower than CIP residual displacements on average due to the superelastic NiTi SMA longitudinal reinforcement, and higher base shear capacity and higher displacement capacity were observed. The analytical modeling methods were simple and sufficiently accurate for general design and analyses of precast components proposed in the present study. The proposed symmetrical material model for reinforcing NiTi superelastic SMA was found to be a viable alternative to the more complex asymmetrical model. Extensive experimental and analytical investigations performed in the present study led to a
new generation of ABC bridge columns in which columns can be built in relatively short time but the seismic performance of these columns…

▼ New generation learning environments (NGLEs) are proliferating in schools worldwide, driven by technology innovations and globalisation (Griffen, Care & McGaw, 2012). Between 2008 and 2012 in the state of Victoria, Australia, numerous schools were built and/or refurbished embracing the principles of open-plan design in the State and Catholic sectors under a Commonwealth-funded initiative entitled Building the Education Revolution (BER). While an increasing body of research is exploring how teachers and students utilise the affordances of such spaces, there exists a dearth of research about their provision of quality educational environments for students with learning differences (disabilities).
In mainstream learning environments a significant number of students have suboptimal hearing abilities attributed to transient or permanent auditory disorders, including hearing loss and auditory processing disorders. There are no known studies that have accounted for the prevalence of school-aged children in this cohort, however it is postulated that the proportion of students with suboptimal hearing is between 7–10% (Tomlin, 2014; Wake & Poulakis, 2004).
Flexer and Smaldino (2012) stated that hearing is a sense and listening is a skill. This suggests that measuring the capacity of a particular person to hear sounds, as represented on an audiogram, is just a small fraction of what matters in the whole scheme of listening and learning. Therefore it is important to consider how the changing elements in NGLEs help or hinder equitable access to learning opportunities and inclusion for students with suboptimal hearing abilities. Little is known about the performance standard of fully operational NGLEs. Indeed, there is virtually no research on how students and teachers maximise NGLE characteristics towards a positive effect for students with suboptimal hearing abilities.
This project utilised a mixed method design, blending building acoustic measurements with qualitative data collection techniques, including semi-structured interviews, focus groups and photo elicitation, to empirically investigate student perceptions of inclusion in communicative experiences in a single sampled NGLE. Three students with suboptimal hearing abilities were treated as case studies, allowing focused exploration of the affective and effective impact of pedagogy, spatial design, building acoustics, and technology on their inclusion in learning activities. Other participants included teachers and the school principal.
The research design enabled baseline measurement of the acoustic qualities of the learning spaces to be collected, exploration of how the students inhabited the spaces and participated in learning activities to be undertaken, and investigation into how teachers intentionally or unintentionally manipulated the physical properties of the space while teaching.
The mixed methods approach led to the discovery of the value of ‘nooks’ (sensory reduction zones within the learning environment) and ‘the trusted other’ (a person the…

The Power of Absence:

▼ For 30 years human rights groups have struggled for justice in Argentina. ‘We are
born in their struggle and they live in ours’, thus goes the mantra of the second
generation activists. In 1995, hijos, the children of the disappeared, murdered,
unlawfully imprisoned and exiled victims of the 1976-83 civil-military dictatorship,
decided to participate and created the association H.I.J.O.S. (Children for Identity
and Justice, against Oblivion and Silence). Coming to the field in 2010, I arrived into
a context radicalized through activism, campaigning, and a heightened level of legal
activity in a temporality of post-transitional, pro-human rights. In this symbolic,
discursive, and legal space of justice members of H.I.J.O.S. demonstrate why the
violent past counts as genocide and promise not to forgive, not to forget, nor to
reconcile. With their activism during the Escrache – H.I.J.O.S.’ practice of social
condemnation and street justice – and in the current trials for crimes against
humanity, the second generation strives to recover their disappeared parents’
political identity and create their own belonging from absence.
This thesis presents a detailed ethnographic reading of the dynamics of justice in posttransitional
Argentina. Pursuant to complex and sometimes conflicting research on
the nature of these concepts, this thesis focuses thus on the meaning and impact of
H.I.J.O.S.’ struggle over the past 18 years. The theoretical cornerstone of the work is
an interrogation of the way in which post-memories are constructed, lived, and
negotiated by members of the second generation thereby a demonstration of the
productive quality of genocide and absence that bears new ontologies and political
subjectivities. In holding an ethnographic mirror up to these experiences and hijos’
political agency, this thesis goes beyond prevailing studies of transitional justice and
genocide and explores the productivity and creative power of violence unleashed by
activated post memories. With the concept of ‘absence’ as a motor for justice this
thesis shows how hijos use their post memories to subvert a traumatic heritage and
regain ownership of justice.

▼ In these competitive times, designers need to constantly update their tangible products with
new features and functionalities to retain market share. This is especially important for designers of emerging products, as customer expectations of them change more frequently.
New Product Development (NPD) is an established process which assists product designers in achieving this aim. In the first step of this process, product designers find novel features for upgrading their products (idea
generation) and select some ideas (idea selection) for developing a
new product concept in the next steps of NPD process. This step plays a vital role in introducing newness into a product and consequently its success in the market. A recent trend in existing literature for generating novel ideas is transfer learning where ideas for improvements are inspired from products in other domains. However, they are heavy/process-centric and time-intensive for the designers of emerging products in finding novel ideas from products of other domains. Moreover, while enormous research has been done to accomplish the idea selection task, there are still no agreed evaluation metrics for the product designers to prioritize their ideas. To address this problem in this thesis a framework, namely FEATURE, is developed which assists product designers to accomplish idea
generation and idea selection to enhance emerging products. FEATURE adopts the science and engineering research approach, and it consists of three modules, namely Novel Feature Finder (NFF), Feature Sentiment Analyser (FSA) and Targeted Feature Recommender (TFR). NFF generates ideas by searching the products of cross-domains for their novel features that can be integrated into the product to be improved. To diminish the risk of product failure, FSA then ascertains the popularity of the generated ideas by using the customers’ reviews in social media. Finally, TFR prioritizes ideas based on different decision-criteria. From an industry-applicability perspective, FEATURE provides the designers of emerging products with a systematic light-weight approach to identify and assess realistic ideas in a short time. The functionality and viability of the different tasks of FEATURE are validated by experiments and systematized by a prototype to highlight the effectiveness of the overall proposed solution.

▼ The farming sectors in the United States and Canada has seen a steady decline in the number of farmers since the end of World War II. However, this issue did not gain widespread attention until the early 2000s when the farmer population hit a low of 2% of the total population in both countries. Recognition of this phenomenon led to initiatives to address farmer succession and renewal. Incubator farm programs – defined as land-based farmer training and support programs – are one such type of initiative that specifically focuses on developing entry pathways for people from outside the farm sector. The goal of this study is to critically assess incubator farm programs (IFPs) as a
new farmer support strategy that helps overcome structural barriers and enhances the agency of
new farmers. This dissertation examines the incubator farm as a place-based entity influenced by the surrounding environment and explores its contribution to the farm succession landscape. In doing this, I use a number of approaches and methods. First, a quantitative survey (n=63) provides a high-level view of the programmatic space, including the population it serves and seeks to reach, the geographical settings of primary activity where opportunity and demand have met, and how the services provided empower beginning farmers. I then used a Sustainable Livelihoods Approach to tease out the assets that beginning farmers need to possess to be successful and analyzed (n=5) case studies to understand how IFPs helped build these assets and further empower beginning farmers. Finally, a single in-depth case study utilizes participant observation methods to unpack the relationship of an IFP to its locale. In undertaking this dissertation, I was able to better understand the inner nature of IFPs, a space that I have been connected with over the last 12 years. I unpacked the support and services provided and how IFPs contributed to building the capabilities of
new farmers. By analyzing an IFP as a pragmatic place-based initiative I was able to delve deeper into the dynamics of IFPs and their locale. This dissertation also contributes to a better grasp of the IFP as a non-traditional entry pathway into farming, and its contributions to creating a
new generation of farmers.

▼ New generation is going to be main power in the human resource market. According to the research, because of the different background of
new generation,
new generation has different work values and attitudes which could be valuable parts for businesses to use. On the side, we all understand that political behavior is one part of organization life. We canât ignore the truth that political behavior exists in organizations. In addition, both of researches and evidences support that due to the uncertainty of organizational politics it usually makes the internal part of organization has a lot of complex political behavior. Among this, upward political behavior, the behavioral reflection of upward influence, is the important factor to employees to influence organizational efficiency. It means that in order to achieve their satisfaction of work and to improve organizational efficiency employees use strategies, build and maintain the relationship with their supervisors to develop the processes of upward influence. For this reason, the main object of this research is to discuss employees of
new generation in the organizations and to find out if the political behavior they show will affect the income. Further, we will through discuss the difference between public and private organizations to discover and explain if there is any different finding of upward behavior to income. The main research results are:
1 Each aspect of upward behavior is a significant impact relative to income.
2 Among upward political behavior aspects, rationality and self-promotion have significantly positive effect on income. Moreover, ingratiation has significantly negative effect on income.
3 Each aspect of upward political behavior of
new generational employees have no significant effect on income in public organizations.
4 Rationality has significantly effect on income in private organizations.

This dissertation is the result of questioning the young contemporary art category, that demands the new and the innovation from an artist generation. After this category\'s suspension we intended to approach the creation phenomenon of Inês Moura, a Portuguese artist resident in Brazil who is considered young due to both her age and her marginal action towards arts circuit, in which she longs to take part. Considering this, during eight months attending weekly the artist\'s studio and her works creation, we have searched traces of what could be an imaginary of a young artists generation, artists who have produced between 2009 and 2013. After deep research in the studio, we have selected some of Inês Moura\'s works and exhibitions that we could see along those eight months and that we also had access to the images. Thus, the reader can have access to the art works and exhibitions that we have attended the process of creation. The same images were fragmented in fixed formats and posed alongside the text. Those images complement, illustrate and sometimes provide their own narrative. This dissertation has a hybrid format, written and illustrated discourse, that communicate with each other. This format intends to give the reader proximity to Inês Mouras works and exhibitions. At last, it is possible to identify, that there is no project that look for the new considering some artistic works and this artists…

▼ Two general approaches for the generation of orthoquinone methides are described. These methods involve oxidations of ortho-substituted phenols and the 1,4-elimination of ortho-hydroxybenzylic alcohol derivatives. 2- (3*R)-3,7-Dimethyl-1-trimethylsilyloxy-6-octenyl -3-methoxy-5(n-pentyl)-1-trimethylsilyloxybenzene undergoes regiospecific 1,4-desilylation-elimination to an incipient ortho-quinone methide that is trapped in a stereocontrolled intramolecular Diels-Alder reaction to enantiospecifically produce hexahydrocannabinols. In addition, ortho-hydroxybenzyl alcohols of this type undergo acid-catalyzed dehydration to form ortho-quinone methides which are trapped in the same manner to yield cannabinols. Attempts to synthesize (DELTA)('9)-tetrahydrocannabinol methyl ether directly from an ortho-quinone methide intermediate resulted in the formation of chromene products. The DDQ (2,3-dichloro-5,6-dicyano-1,4-benzoquinone) oxidation of 2- (Z)-3,7-dimethyl-2,6-octadienyl -5-(n-pentyl)-3-methoxyphenol gave a high yield of cannabichrome methyl ether. Demethylation afforded cannabichromene, a naturally-occurring cannabinoid. The fluoride-induced desilylations of 2- (Z)-3,7-dimethyl-1-hydroxy-2,6-octadienyl -3-methoxy-5-(n-pentyl)-1-trimethylsilyloxybenzene resulted in chromene production. These results are attributed to the electrocyclic closure of the incipient cisoid ortho-quinone methide species. In an attempt to synthesize optically-active cannabinoids functionalized at the C-9 and C-10 positions, four chiral neral derivatives were made. However, (2*S,3*S)-3,7-dimethyl-2,3-epoxy-6-octen-1-al, (4*S,5*S)-3-phenyl-4-carboxaldehyde-5-methyl-5-(4-methyl-3-pentenyl)-2-oxazolidinone, (2*R,3*R)-3,7-dimethyl-2-hydroxy-3-(N-methylanilino)-6-octen-1-al and (4*R,5*R)-3-phenyl-4-methyl-3-pentenyl-5-carboxaldehyde-2-oxazolidinone all failed to undergo the desired condensation reaction with various aryl anions.

▼ Peanut producers have faced several new changes under the past 2002 Farm Bill. Due to these changes, and continual increasing concentration of the peanut industry beyond the farm gate, peanut producers have a lack of market power. Peanut
producers can form a New Generation Shelling Cooperative (NGSC) to increase market power and capture some of the value beyond the farm gate. When forming a NGSC, individual farmer-member risks are joined together in the cooperative, thereby increasing an
individual farmer’s risk rather than diversifying the farmer’s portfolio. This study identifies various sources of risk, discusses risk management tools, and develops risk management plans for the NGSC. Finally, the risk management plans are tested under
a Monte Carlo simulation and measured and ranked with VaR, Sharpe’s Ratio, and a stochastic dominance measure to understand their worth.
Subjects/Keywords: Peanuts; New Generation Cooperatives; Risk Management; Monte Carlo; Value-at-Risk; Sharpe\'s Ratio; Stochastic Dominance.
