▼ Evaluations of body form and measures of milk production were recorded for 188 Holstein lactations and 77 Jersey lactations in the Oregon State University Dairy Herds. Components of body form included general appearance, dairy character, body capacity, and mammary system and 34 sub-components of these four traits plus body weight and wither height. Subjective components of body form were scored by two judges at approximately 30 days post-partum independent of age and previous score. Measures of milk production included actual and mature equivalent yields of milk, fat, and SNF, and percentages of fat and SNF plus peak yield, persistency of milk yield, solids-corrected milk, and test-day yields of milk for the first six months of lactation. Age at parturition and estimated breeding value were also included in this study. Sub-components of body form were quite effective in explaining the variation in the four major components. General appearance, dairy character, body capacity, and mammary system had R² values of .84, .94, .95, and .95, and .82, .95, .94, and .96, respectively for Holsteins and Jerseys. Correlations among the sub-components of dairy character and of body capacity were quite strong, ranging from .49 to .96 for both breeds. Correlations among the sub-components of general appearance were lowest and the most variable of the four major components (-.08 to .91). Correlations among components of mammary system were intermediate. Path coefficients indicated that the sub-components with the most effect on overall score for general appearance were stature, feet and legs, and rump or its components. Sub-components of dairy character had about equal effects on overall score for dairy character except that scores for pins and hide had the least influence. Scores for overall body capacity were influenced the greatest by depth of barrel. In scoring mammary system the most emphasis was placed on fore udder, followed by rear udder and score for teats. Final score was most influenced by scores for mammary system. It was found that the relative emphasis as indicated by path coefficient analyses was strongly affected by the variability of the traits involved. The effect of age was found to be significant in this study making interpretation of the correlations more difficult. Dairy character, body capacity, body weight, and wither height all increased with age. General appearance and final score were less affected by age. Scores for mammary system decreased with advancing age. Milk yield was correlated .99 with SNF yield. Milk yield with fat yield (.92 in Holsteins and .94 in Jerseys) were higher than previously reported. Age had no significant effect on percent fat but caused a decrease in percent SNF with advancing age. Correlations of most of the components of body form with milk yield were rather low. Dairy character was correlated .46 and .15 with actual milk yield in Holsteins and Jerseys, respectively. ▼ Two experiments involving 33 Holstein cows were conducted for the primary purpose of studying the effects of flumethasone (a synthetic glucocorticoid) on milk and milk constituent yields. The secondary purpose was to compare udder health, reproductive performance, and body weight changes of cows on flumethasone therapy. Nine Holstein cows were assigned randomly to three treatments in Experiment I and received .00, .01, and .05 mg. of flumethasone daily in treatment groups I, II, and III, respectively. All cows were fed 10 to 12 pounds of alfalfa hay daily, corn silage ad libitum, and one pound of concentrates for every three pounds of milk produced per day, throughout the 120 day experiment. Average daily milk yield,mature equivalent (ME) milk, 4% fat corrected milk (FCM), and ME, 4% FCM were significantly less (P < .05) for treatment III than treatment I. Cows on treatment II produced more milk than cows on treatment I. However, the differences were not statistically significant. Experiment II involved 24 Holstein cows initiating their second or third lactations which were allotted randomly to four treatments. Cows on treatments I, II, III, and IV received .00, .005, .01 and .02 mg. of flumethasone, respectively, each day. Flumethasone therapy was initiated four days post partum and continued until milk secretion ceased or the completion of a 305 day lactation. Cows in this experiment received the same ration as cows in Experiment I. Milk, butterfat, and solids-not-fat (SNF) were significantly lower (P < .05) for treatment IV than treatment II. Controls were intermediate. During the first 70 days of lactation cows on .005 mg. of flumethasone produced significantly more (P < .05) butterfat (23.9%) and SNF (18.39%) than controls and cows receiving .01 mg. of flumethasone produced significantly more (P < .05) butterfat (21. 04%) than controls. There were no significant differences between treatment means during the second 70 days of lactation. Cows receiving .01 mg. of flumethasone produced significantly more (P < .05) milk, butterfat, and SNF between 141 and 210 days of lactation than cows receiving .02 mg. of flumethasone. There were no differences between treatments for measures of udder health, reproductive performance, and body weight changes. However, there was a significant difference (P < .05) in length of lactation. Cows receiving .02 mg. of flumethasone had considerably shorter lactations (31 to 43 days). These results indicate that .05 mg. of flumethasone has an inhibitory effect on lactation. Although .02 mg. of flumethasone had an initial stimulatory effect, there was an inhibitory effect on milk secretion and synthesis of butterfat and SNF later in lactation. ▼ Fourteen multiparous Holstein cows were paired by stage of lactation and previous years milk yield and 14 Holstein first-calf heifers were paired by stage of lactation. One member of each pair was assigned to a 24L:OD or a 18L:6D photoperiod for 16 wk during winter 1981 (Experiment 1). A similar experiment comparing natural photoperiod (9-12 h light/day) and 18L:6D was conducted for 9 wk during winter 1982 (Experiment 2) in which 24 Holstein cows and 22 Holstein first-calf heifers were paired and assigned to groups as in the first experiment. Animals were housed in a free stall barn open on 2 sides. High pressure sodium vapor lamps provided light intensity at cow eye level of 254 26 lux during the day and 132 9 lux at night. In Experiment 1, concentration of serum prolactin (PRL) in response to thyrotropin releasing hormone (TRH)(33 μg/100 kg BW) was measured in 5 animals from each group. Prolactin response to TRH or saline was tested in 10 animals in each group in Experiment 2. Photoperiod had no effect on 4% fat corrected milk (FCM) in either age group in Experiment 1 although cows in the 18L:6D group averaged 2% higher monthly persistency in 4% FCM over the 12 wk that milk composition was monitered. Cows in the 18L:6D group averaged 5% higher monthly persistency in 4% FCM in Experiment 2 as compared to cows exposed to a natural photoperiod. Persistency in heifers was unaffected by photoperiod in this experiment. Basal concentration of serum PRL was not affected by either age or photoperiod in Experiment 1 (21.3±3.3 ng/ml). Peak concentration of serum PRL after TRH injection was not affected by photoperiod in the heifer group but cows exposed to 18L:6D had significantly higher concentrations of serum PRL after TRH injection than cows exposed to 24L:0D (560±133 vs. 229±54 ng/ml). Basal concentration of serum PRL in Experiment 2 was similar in TRH- and saline-injected animals (26.3±3.1 ng/ml) but was lower in cows than in heifers (17.1±2.0 vs. 35.5±5.0 ng/ml). Saline injection did not elicit a PRL increase nor were there any differences in concentration of serum PRL due to either photoperiod or age after TRH stimulation in Experiment 2. Weight gain of cows did not differ due to photoperiod in Experiment 1 although heifers exposed to 24L:0D gained more weight than those exposed to 18L:6D. Cows in Experiment 2 gained significantly more weight when exposed to 18L:6D. No difference in weight gain due to photoperiod was observed for heifers in Experiment 2. We conclude that milk yield in mature cows can be increased by using supplemental lighting during winter months when compared to natural photoperiod. No differences between 18L:6D and 24L:0D were observed. Prolactin does not appear to be involved in the mechanism of action of photoperiods stimulation of milk yield. Cost analysis of the above data reveal a $16.06 return on each dollar invested for supplemental lighting. ▼ The research presented in this thesis was designed to evaluate the effects of feeding alfalfa hays from the Klamath Basin of Oregon in practical dairy rations on milk fat production in high-producing Holstein cows. Thirty-two second lactation or older animals estimated to be capable of producing at least 70 lbs of milk daily were utilized in a 4 X 4 latin square experiment with eight replications. Four rations based upon four different lots of hay, ranging from 15.2 to 22.0% crude protein (CP), from 29.9 to 35.1% acid detergent fiber (ADF) and from 109 to 132 in Relative Feed Value, were fed during four periods, each lasting about 28 days. Rations were formulated to be comparable in caloric and nitrogen content, and all consisted (as a percent of ration dry matter) of 50% concentrate, 30% chopped alfalfa and 20% corn silage, fed as a mixed, complete ration. A digestibility study was also carried out involving four steers fed the four alfalfa hays only. The digestibility trial showed that there were no significant differences among the four alfalfa hays in feed intake, % digestible dry matter, % digestible ADF and % digestible CP. In the production trial, no differences were seen in feed intake or persistency, and body weight changes were significantly different only for periods. Both daily 4% fat-corrected milk (FCM) and milk fat percentage were observed to have highly significant differences for all sources of variation except treatments. Treatment means for rations 1 through 4 for 4% FCM were 48.88, 48.02, 48.38 and 48.24 lbs, respectively, and those for percent milk fat were 3.13, 3.12, 3.05 and 3.01, respectively. Differences in other sources of variation for these two measurements were attributed to variation among cows and stage of lactation effects. Important changes were noted in the relative proportions of volatile fatty acids in the rumen. While there were no significant changes in rumen acetate concentration, highly significant differences in propionate content were seen for all sources of variation. Treatment means for rations 1 to 4 were 18.14, 17.56, 19.44 and 23.03 pmoles /ml of rumen fluid. This response was reflected also in highly significant differences in ruminal acetate:propionate (A:P) ratios. Means here for rations 1 through It were 2.82, 3.00, 2.36 and 2.23, respectively. Correlation coefficients were determined for A:P ratios and several hay and ration characteristics, and only that with hay % NDF was significant. It was concluded that changes in rumen fermentation typical of milk fat depression occurred which were not severe enough to actually reduce butterfat levels. The literature indicates that there may be a relationship between milk fat synthesis and tissue vitamin B₁₂ status, i.e., that B₁₂- deficient animals will secrete milk with reduced fat percentage. ▼ The objective of this study was to evaluate triticale grain fed as a concentrate in the diet of high producing dairy cows. A lactation study, in vitro dry matter digestibilities and a preliminary physiological effects trial were conducted to evaluate triticale and used to make feeding recommendations. In the lactation study, thirty-two multiparous Holstein cows were divided into two groups based on days in milk and initial milk production. A switchback design was employed. Diets were isocaloric, isonitrogenous, and isofibrous total mixed rations. Triticale replaced barley in the experimental ration. Daily feedings were recorded and orts were weighed back biweekly. No significant differences were noted in five day 4% fat corrected milk weights or daily average milk weight for triticale and control diets, 385.27 and 388.47 pounds, 77.05 and 77.69 pounds, respectively, when triticale replaced barley on an equal weight basis. Triticale supported a peak production for a five day period averaging 114.25 lbs. per day and the control ration a peak five day average production of 109.30 lbs. per day. No significant difference was noted in % milk protein as treatment means were 3.14 and 3.16% for triticale and the control ration. However, five day weights for protein production were significantly higher (P<.05) for animals fed the control TMR (13.09 lbs.) than the animals fed the triticale TMR (12.45 lbs.). Triticale fed cows had a significantly higher milk fat % (P<.03) than the control group, 3.81 vs. 3.60%. Total lbs. of milk fat produced were not different (3.02 and 2.98 lbs./day for triticale and control, respectively). No difference was noted in ADFI as cows consumed 57.90 and 56.94 DM daily for the control and triticale TMR, respectively. Results of the in vitro study indicates that different feedstuffs had different in vitro dry matter digestibilities (IVDMD). Mean IVDMD for corn, barley, 50/50 corn-barley and triticale grain was 92.38, 87.32, 88.19 and 92.78%. Triticale and corn grain had similar IVDMD, which were significantly higher than barley and the 50/50 corn-barley mix. Data also indicated that their was no difference in IVDMD between the control or triticale ration. Four cull cows were identified and placed on the triticale TMR for approximately 120 days. Upon completion of the feeding period, the cows were slaughtered and the internal organs were examined. No lesions or abscesses were noted in the liver or rumen of any of the animals. Results from this trial indicate that triticale can successfully be fed (at 24% of diet DM) to high producing dairy cows without significantly effecting performance or health of the animal. ▼ Sward characteristics have a major effect on intake and performance of dairy cows at pasture. Milk production from grazing cows however can be restricted by herbage intake, and concentrate supplementation can allow them to perform closer to their production potential. This study investigates effects of sward characteristics and concentrate supplementation on intake and performance of grazing dairy cows. Grazing cows yielding on average 36.8 kg milk day (d)-1 were offered high levels of concentrates in late summer. Milk yield response was 1.01 kg milk kg-1 concentrate dry matter (DM) d-1 when concentrate was increased from 5.2 to 7.7 kg DM d-1. Milk yield response declined to 0.83 kg milk kg-1 DM when concentrate was increased from 7.7 to 10.2 kg DM d-1. Grazing time and herbage intake were reduced at higher levels of supplementation. Increasing concentrate level by 1.7 kg DM d-1 when cows were housed overnight had no effect on animal performance. In another experiment, there was no significant difference in animal performance between cows offered either a high starch or high fibre concentrate at a rate of 5.3 kg concentrate DM d-1. Supplementation with an additive formulated to reduce dietary protein degradability however had a positive effect on milk yield, which was on average 34.4 and 32.9 kg d-1 for additive and control treatments respectively. Inclusion of the additive also increased milk protein yield and herbage intake. Interactions between sward characteristics and intake were examined. Bite mass was predicted from estimates of bite dimensions and measurements of vertical distribution of herbage mass in cut swards. A general relationship observed between sward height and vertical distribution of mass could be used to predict bite mass from sward height and total herbage mass. Methods to make detailed measurements of intake and grazing activity within patches of a sward using grazing cows were developed and demonstrated an effect of time of day on bite mass. Research to quantify interactions between sward structure, supplementation and grazing activity, focusing on bite mass, should enable development of strategies to exploit the potential of grazed grass and provide appropriate supplementation, which will ultimately contribute to improved profitability of milk production.

▼ The aim of this thesis is to enquire into genetic approaches for improving milk yield from dairy cattle in order to overcome the milk shortage in Bangladesh. Survey work on the dairy industry was carried out to reveal its current status. The collected data of different genotypes (Pabna cattle, Australian-Friesian-Sahiwal Pabna, Holstein Pabna, Jersey Pabna, and Sahiwal Pabna) from 1999 to 2001, and in two seasons, were used to predict model parameters, fit-statistics and total lactation yields, by fitting ten lactation curve models. Best fitting model(s) were chosen on the basis of fit-statistics. The input parameters from best fiting model(s) were used for: developing a deterministic model; estimating the profitability of individual cows; estimating whole farm profitability; and for developing a profit function to estimate the economic values of traits in breeding objectives. The individual cow performances for different traits were stochastically simulated in respect of additive genetic, permanent and temporary error, herd and age effects, and mendelian sampling under progeny and parent-average testing breeding schemes based on three selection objectives applied over on 20 year period. Genetic gains in different traits were calculated from the regression of trait values on the selection index. The estimated lactation curves model parameters, and predicted lactation milk yield were significantly different between breeds, years and seasons. From four fit-statistics values, the CCC value was considered superior, and this value indicated that the Nelder model best represented the test day records. The net annual income for Holstein Pabna cattle was the highest (US229) and was lowest (US115) for Pabna cattle, while all other genotypes were intermediate. The economic values (EVs) of milk yield for all genotypes were similar (US0.32), and due to payment for milk volume only, the EVs of fat and protein were negative. EVs of liveweight, calving intervals and calving rate were negative, but survivability was positive in all genotypes. The parent-average testing selection scheme showed higher genetic gains than progeny testing. The highest (US15.80) genetic gain was obtained for milk yield when selection was for milk merit only. The study will assist in undertaking a genetic improvement programme for the increase of milk production in Bangladesh and thereby enhance food security. ▼ The study involved work carried out over a period of 12 months from April 1975 to March 1976 with the Town Milk Supply herds of the Manawatu Co-operative Milk Producers, Palmerston North. It could be divided into two parts. 1. Bulk milk samples from all 72 herds of the Town Milk Supply. 2. 19 of the above 72 herds were selected for individual farm visits in May 1975, August 1975, November 1975 and February 1976. Information on somatic cell counts was obtained from bulk milk samples of the 72 herds; also from the individual cows and farm bulk milk from the 19 herds. Mean cell numbers for the 72 herds was 430,000 cells per ml and the percentages of herds below 250,000; between 250,000 and 500,000 and over 500,000 cells per ml averaged 21, 45.5 and 33.5 and showed wide variation during months. The survey showed that there were marked differences from month to month and the lowest average cell counts were in July 1975 and highest in November and December l975. On a between herd basis a relationship was demonstrated between milk yield; milk fat yield and total milk protein yield and herd bulk milk cell count (p<0.01). The analysis indicating a loss of .6 litres in milk yield; 0.03 kg in fat yield and 0.02 kg in protein yield per cow per day for each increase of 250,000 cells per ml. Information from the 19 herds showed that the percentage of cows with clinical mastitis were lowest in May (1.9%) and highest in November (2.6%) and this difference was not significant between and within herds. The relationship between the herd bulk milk cell counts and the percentage of cows in the herd with less than 250,000 cells per ml, 250,000 to 500,000 cells per ml and above 500,000 cells was described and discussed from the 19 herds and the correlations obtained were -0.91; 0.57 and 0.95 respectively. A relationship between the herd bulk milk cell count and the incidence of clinical mastitis was reported (P< 0.01). Linear regression analysis between the production index and cell counts of individual cows revealed a significant relation (P< 0.01) which indicated that a decrease of 0.14 litres of milk per cow per day for each 100,000 cells per ml increase. Chi square analysis indicated that there was a relationship between age of cows and level of cell counts; an increase in age was associated with an increase in mean somatic cell count of cows. Daily measurement of bulk milk cell counts for 19 herds for a month in May 1975 and February 1976 showed an average coefficient of variation of 21% and 20% respectively.

▼ Maternal milk production influences calf weaning weight which is the major driver for economic return in a cow-calf operation. The objective of this study was to use measures of calf milk intake to estimate milk production of Angus (AA; n=43), Angus×Friesian (AF; n=32), Angus×Jersey (AJ; n=40) and Angus×Kiwi-Cross (AK; n=21) cows, and to determine how milk yield was related to calf growth rate (n=64) from birth to one year of age. Milk production was estimated by the weigh-suckle-weigh (WSW) technique at an average 32, 49, 80, 120 and 160 days (D) post-partum. Third-order Legendre polynomials were fitted to milk data using random regression to estimate the lactation curve for each cow. Live weight of all steers was recorded at birth and thereafter accompanying every WSW measurement. Postweaning live weight was recorded at an average D240, D330 and D350 of age. Growth curves for each steer were estimated by fitting third-order Legendre polynomials to live weight data using random regression. The average total milk production from D32 to D160 was 1337 ± 22 kg for AF cows, 1245 ± 20 kg for AJ cows, 1301 ± 32 kg for AK cows and 1017 ± 20 kg for Angus cows. The AF, AJ and AK cows produced more (P<0.05) milk from D32 to D160 than the AA cows. The AF cows produced more (P<0.05) milk than AJ cows, with AK cows being intermediate and not differing (P>0.05) from either AF or AJ cows. Crossbred cows produced more milk (P<0.05) at all stages of lactation when compared with straightbred AA cows. In the present study, as the proportion of Friesian or Jersey in the crossbreds increased from 0 to 50%, an extra 325 kg and 240 kg of milk, respectively, was expected compared to the AA cows. Total energy intake from milk was higher (P<0.05) for the AF-, AJ- and AK-reared steers compared to those reared by AA dams. This resulted in higher liveweight gains so that steers reared by crossbred cows were heavier (P<0.05) from D60 to D270 than those reared by AA cows. Results also revealed that the higher live weight at D60 in AJ-reared steers compared to AA-reared steers was due to differences in milk consumption from D32 to D60. The higher live weight of AF- and AK-reared steers at D60 compared to AA-reared steers was attributed to a maternal effect on steer size; however, from D90 until weaning at D160, any differences in live weight were due to differences in milk consumption. Estimation of the theoretical pasture consumption revealed that AA- reared steers compensated for the lower milk intake by eating more grass, however, this was not enough to support high daily gains during the pre-weaning period. The differences in live weight seen at weaning between steers were maintained post-weaning until D270 and were attributed to differences in milk consumption during the pre-weaning period. ▼ The four studies comprising this thesis characterised Moringa oleifera as a fodder for dairy cows under dry tropical conditions in Nicaragua. An agronomy study examined, two planting densities (D1=100,000 and D2=167,000 plants ha-1) and four fertilisation levels (N1=0, N2=261, N3=521 and N4=782 kg N ha-1). The D2 density gave significantly higher yields of total dry matter ha-1 (TDMY) and fine fraction dry matter ha-1 (FFDM) compared with D1. There were significant interactions between fertilisation level and the variables year and cut with regard to TDMY and FFDM. However, fertilisation levels N3 and N4 gave the highest yield in both years and among all cuts. A study on Moringa leaf meal (MLM), as a protein source in concentrates to dairy cows found no significant difference in milk production when comparing isocaloric and isoproteinic concentrates with or without MLM. In an ensiling experiment, Moringa was ensiled alone with 10 g kg-1 fresh matter (FM) molasses and compared with several mixtures with Elephant grass and sugar cane. Pure Moringa biomass produced silage with a higher crude protein (CP) content and had a favourable effect on silage pH, with higher lactic acid concentrations, but the presence of Moringa decreased time to spoilage by 67 h (22%) compared with the Elephant grass silages. Feeding Moringa as the sole roughage, either fresh or ensiled, compared with feeding Elephant grass resulted in higher digestibility of both CP and fibre but milk yield did not differ (13.7 kg cow day-1). No differences in milk composition were found between treatments but when fresh Moringa was fed a grassy flavour and aroma was detected in the milk. In conclusion, to maintain high biomass yield of Moringa over time, the best planting density-fertiliser combination was D2 and N3. MLM can successfully replace commercial concentrate ingredients for dairy cows. Furthermore, Moringa ensiled alone, with only 10 or 50 g kg-1 FM molasses added, produces good quality silage that can be fed to dairy cows in large quantities while maintaining the same milk production level and milk quality as for cows fed conventional roughages.

Karvių sergančių lyties organų, virškinamojo trakto, tešmens susirgimais, somatinių ląstelių skaičius piene padidėja. Dėl šių susirgimų kinta ir pieno sudėtinių dalių: baltymų, riebalų, laktozės kiekis. Pieno sudėtinių dalių kiekis kinta ir laktacijos eigoje. Pavyzdžiui, užtrūkinamos karvės piene padidėja riebalų, baltymų, mineralinių medžiagų. Piene pagausėja fermentų (lipazės ir kt.), leukocitų, kurie sudaro 93-97% somatinių ląstelių. Šiuo periodu, veikiant fermentui lipazei, vyksta pieno riebalų hidrolizė, todėl pienas būna apkartęs, sūrokas. Ilgėjant servis periodui pienas būna mažesnio riebumo. Laktacijos pabaigoje mažėja pieno kiekis, didėja ir somatinių ląstelių skačius. Literatūroje nurodoma daug priežasčių, dėl kurių kinta somatinių ląstelių skaičius piene. Darbo tikslas: Išanalizuoti penkių ūkininkų karvių bandose įvairių faktorių įtaką SLS piene. Darbo uždaviniai: 1. Nustatyti laktacijos įtaką karvių bandos produktyvumui. 2. Nustatyti metų laiko įtaką SLS ir pieno sudėtinių dalių kitimui. 3. Nustatyti šėrimo lygio įtaką urėjos kiekiui piene.

In this work is analyzing 5 farmers cow milk quantity, its quality dependence on lactation, the time of the year, feeding. Established that in all farms the cows milk-yielding capacity increased with each lactation. The highest productivity was the third lactation. Cows' productivity depends on the time of the year. However, the main milk components (fat %, protein %, lactose %), changes depending on the time of the year. The skimest milk was the summer. (Fat content – 3,55 %), while the winter period – 4,80 %. The protein content of milk has changed little and remained stable in almost all times of the year. Lactose content varied slightly, but the average was 4,428 –4,937 %. Urėja levels in milk were very low. Its rate, found in 3,0 –32,2 % cows' milk samples tested. Low urėja shows defective the feeding of cows during lactation.

Tyrimo problema: Pienininkystei Lietuvoje plėtoti sąlygos yra palankios, pienas žemės ūkio produkcijos struktūroje užima beveik ketvirtadalį, o pieno produktų eksportas sudaro apie penktadalį šalies žemės ūkio ir maisto produktų eksporto. Lietuvoje karvių produktyvumas artimas Lenkijos ir Latvijos karvių produktyvumui, tačiau nuo kitų Europos Sąjungos šalių karvių produktyvumas atsilieka 15 – 20 proc. Todėl norint konkuruoti pasaulinėse rinkose būtina atrasti patikimų būdų gerinti karvių pieno kokybės rodiklius, taip pat didinti primilžį. Darbo tikslas: ištirti melsvadumblio Spirulina Platensis įtaką pieno sudėties rodikliams. Šiam tikslui įgyvendinti keliami tokie darbo uždaviniai: 1. Ištirti Spirulina Platensis papildo vartojimo įtaką primilžiui. 2. Ištirti Spirulina Platensis papildo vartojimo įtaką pieno sudėties rodikliams. 3. Ištirti Spirulina Platensis papildo vartojimo įtaką somatinių ląstelių skaičiui piene. Atlikę bandymą 8-iuose Lietuvos rajonų ūkiuose nustatėme, kad karvių šėrime panaudojus Spirulina Platensis papildą, iš bandomosios grupės karvių per parą primelžta vidutiniškai 2,44 kg arba 14,2 proc., pieno daugiau, nei iš kontrolinės grupės karvių (p<0,05). Vartojant Spirulina Platensis papildą bandomosios karvių grupės pieno riebumas buvo nustatytas vidutiniškai 0,27 proc., mažesnis, nei kontrolinės karvių grupės (p<0,05), tačiau iš bandomosios karvių grupės per parą gaunama 0,07 kg daugiau pieno riebalų. Research problem: The conditions of the dairy development are favorable in Lithuania. The milk production takes up nearly a quarter of the whole agriculture production and the export of dairy products is about one-fifth of the country agricultural and food export. Lithuanian cow productivity is close to the Polish and Latvian cow productivity, but is about 15 – 20 percent lower than in other European Union countries. Therefore, in order to compete in global markets, it is necessary to find ways to improve the quality of milk, as well as to increase the milk yield. Research purpose: To investigate the influence of the blue-green algae (Spirulina platensis) on the milk composition parameters. For this purpose there are the following tasks: 1. Investigationoftheinfluenceof Spirulina platensis onthemilkingyield. 2. Investigationoftheinfluenceof Spirulina platensis onthemilkcompositionparameters. 3. Investigationoftheinfluenceof Spirulina platensis ontheamountofsomaticcellsinmilk. After tests in eight Lithuanian farms, it was found that the use of Spirulina platensis additives in cow feeding increases the average of milk yield of about 2.44 kg or 14.2 percent in compare with the control group (p<0,05). Although the additives of Spirulina platensis reduces the fatness of cow milk of about 0.27 percent, but absolute amount of the milk fat increases of about 0.07 kg pro day.
