▼ Nepal is a developing country located in South Asia with high economic dependency on agriculture. Two-thirds of its population are employed in the agricultural sector, generating 40% of the GDP. Livestock is an important part of mixed farming with dairy generating about two-thirds of the livestock GDP. Almost three-fourths of the households in Nepal keep cattle and one-half keep buffalo for
milk production. Despite the larger percentage of the animals being cattle, buffalo produced 71% of the
milk. Cost of
production is higher for cattle because cattle productivity declines after 5 to 6 lactation but must be kept in the herd because cattle cannot be slaughtered because of religious based policy. This makes
milk production cost higher and reduces the competitiveness of
milk in south Asia. The no slaughter policy puts Nepal at a disadvantage to other growers in south Asia. The purpose of this study was to assess the cost and profitability of producing
milk in Nepal and to identify and evaluate key policy alternatives and research programs that affect the competitiveness of
milk production. Latin hypercube simulations were completed to quantify a baseline and alternative scenario for
milk production. Baseline explains the current
production while the alternative scenario explain the
milk production whereby animals are allowed to be slaughtered or exported. Results indicate that farmer profit increases for the alternative scenario while total cost of
production were the same for both scenarios and
milk production dropped by two percent for the alternative scenario. ( en )

The Waste Discharge Requirements General Order For Existing
Milk
Cow Dairies (2007) aims to minimize the amount of fixed solids,
including Na, that are discharged from dairies, aiming to maximise
the useable lifespan of water resources. As sodium bicarbonate (SB)
contains 270 g/kg Na, SB supplementation can substantially increase
Na discharge from dairies. The aim of this study was to determine
the effects of SB and a potentially alternative buffer that does
not contribute to Na discharge and related negative impacts on soil
and water quality, (i.e., calcium magnesium carbonate (CMC)), on
the performance of high producing California dairy cows. This could
help establish if CMC could substitute for SB while maintaining
potential benefits of SB. It is well known that SB is a rumen
buffer, but research indicates that its benefits are limited mainly
to corn silage-based diets. Californian dairies use a wide range of
forages, and tend not to base their diets solely or mainly on corn
silage. Therefore, typical Californian lactation diets do not
always conform to those reported in research publications involving
SB. In addition, research parameters such as
milk yield, DM intake
and dietary ADF often differ substantially between reported studies
and conditions present on commercial California dairies, and
results are therefore not always practically applicable. Apart from
its rumen buffering capacity, SB also has an influence on dietary
cation anion difference (DCAD), and can therefore elicit a response
via a change in blood acid base balance of cows. The experiment was
a Latin square design with 3 treatments (i.e., control (C), SB and
CMC), 3 pens of ~310 early lactation cows each, and 3 periods of 28
d. Sodium bicarbonate supplemented cows had elevated
milk fat
proportion, but a reduced
milk yield, resulting in similar
milk fat
yield between SB supplemented and C cows. Based on a tendency for
elevated faecal and in vitro rumen fluid pH, SB had a buffering
effect on the gastrointestinal tract GIT, most likely in the rumen.
However, it is likely that the difference in DCAD between the C and
SB diets played a role in affecting
milk yield and
milk fat
proportion, and a high intake of Na may have been the cause for a
reduction in
milk yield resulting in passive increase in
milk fat
proportion. There were no differences between C and CMC treatments,
except for an elevated faecal pH of CMC cows. As CMC is not
generally soluble at normal rumen pH, buffering likely occurred in
the abomasum and small and large intestines. However, a lack of
difference in productivity indicates that the buffering effect on
the hindgut was not physiologically required. While there were no
productive benefits of SB use, it likely substantially increased Na
discharge, resulting in an increase in soil and water sodicity and
the associated deterioration in soil and water quality. While CMC

▼ Animal welfare is very important these days. Consumers are more aware of what they eat and demand for transparency of
production of animal
production. Farmers also want their animals to live a good life. It is well known that poor health and poor housing cause stress to cows and stress will lower the
milk production. So the current idea is that good cow comfort will result in better
milk production.
In this study, the cow comfort of 36 farms was scored using the Cow Comfort Scoring System and the total score and all chapters and items of this system were compared with
milk production parameters. The parameters used are the Fat Corrected
Milk production (FCM),
milk fat percentage and
milk protein percentage.
The total score of the system did not correlate at the 0.05 level with the FCM (P = 0.096 and R = 0.295). But since the data used for the biggest chapter of the scoring system, animal health and feeding, was not very reliable, the score for this chapter was excluded and the trend became more clear and the correlation larger; the P of FCM goes to 0.073. The correlation between the total scoring and the
milk fat percentage also became larger this way; the P went from 0.568 to 0.162.
Comparison of the FCM with the cow comfort chapter and items showed several significances. FCM was significant with the chapter water (P = 0.012; R = 0.431), the item number of water places (P = 0.015; R = 0.420) and the item contamination of the feeding (P = 0.008; R = 0.456). There also was a correlation between FCM and the item claws (P = 0.001; R = 0.536). Furthermore, there was a negative correlation between FCM and the items period of light (P = 0.026; R = -0.388) and period of darkness (P = 0.006; R = -0.470). The
milk fat percentage was negatively correlated to the chapter light (P = 0.013; R = -0.427) and the item sufficient light (P = 0.045; R = -0.346) and the
milk protein percentage was negatively correlated to item claws (P = 0.023; R = -0.454).
The hypothesis of this study was that the
milk production parameters would be correlated to the total score of the Cow Comfort Scoring System and possibly also to the different chapters and items of the system. But only a few significant correlations were observed and some of the correlations are not clear yet. This is because during this study, only 36 farms could be scored. To draw proper conclusions, a larger number of farms is necessary.

▼ Com o objetivo de determinar a influência dos sistemas de produção e de alimentação sobre as características do leite, dados coletados de produtores de leite do sul do Brasil e de experimentos sobre níveis de restrição alimentar e de atendimento das exigências energéticas de vacas em lactação foram submetidos à análise de fatores principais, de correlação e médias canônicas, agrupamento e comparação de médias dos grupos. Os atributos estudados comuns em todos os sistemas foram produção leiteira diária, componentes lácteos, estabilidade do leite, peso corporal e escore de condição corporal. Na análise dos sistemas de produção, três grupos de produtores foram formados pela análise de agrupamento, com características de sistemas especializados, semi-especializados e não especializados em ambas as regiões avaliadas. Grupos de produtores especializados produziam leite em conformidade com as especificações da Instrução Normativa Nº 62. Enquanto que para os produtores da região sul do Rio Grande do Sul, as estratégias de alimentação foram determinantes para distinção entre os grupos de produtores, no extremo oeste de Santa Catarina a estrutura das propriedades foi mais determinante. Níveis de restrição severos (40 e 50%) alteraram significativamente a produção leiteira diária, os teores de proteína e lactose e a estabilidade do leite. O atendimento das exigências energéticas para vacas em lactação possui uma relação direta com a produção diária de leite, com o teor da lactose e com a estabilidade do leite. A produção leiteira, os componentes lácteos e a estabilidade do leite diferenciam-se entre os sistemas de produção e alimentação.
Aiming to determine the influence of production and feeding systems on milk characteristics, data collected from dairy producers in southern Brazil and experiments on levels of feed restriction and attendance of the energy requirements of lactating cows were subjected to principal factor, correlation and means canonical, cluster analysis and comparison of means between groups. The variables common to all systems were daily milk production, milk components contents, ethanol stability, body weight and body condition score. In the analysis of production systems, three producers groups were formed by cluster analysis, with characteristics of specialized, semi-specialized and unspecialized systems in both regions evaluated. Groups of specialized dairy farmers produced milk in accordance with Normative Instruction Nº 62. While for the producers in southern Rio Grande do Sul, the feeding strategies were crucial to distinguish groups, at the far west of Santa Catarina structure of the properties was more important. Severe feed restriction levels (40 and 50%) altered significantly the daily milk yield, protein and lactose contents and ethanol stability. ▼ Malnutrition is a serious problem in 1-5 years old children of Ethiopia and livestock
products have a contribution in solving malnutrition. This study was conducted in and
around Bahir Dar with the objectives of investigating the contribution of cow
ownership and
milk production to child
milk consumption; assessing constraints in
cow
milk production and child
milk consumption; and assessing the quality of cow
milk consumed by children at household level. Cross- sectional study design was
employed. A total of 300 households were individually interviewed. The results
indicated a positive relationship between dairy cow ownership and child
milk
consumption. A child in a household with dairy cow consumes 464.9 ml of
milk while
in a household without dairy cow consumes 457.5ml of
milk. Among households with
dairy cow and without dairy cow larger volume of
milk offer was observed in the periurban
(512.8ml) and urban areas (465.7ml), respectively as compared with the rest.
In terms of child
milk feeding practice, higher practice of child
milk feeding was
obtained in the urban households with 39% and without 60.7% dairy cow. The major
constraint of child
milk consumption across households with and without dairy cows
was selling of
milk for income generation and lack of knowledge; and shortage of
money and cultural issues, respectively. Coliform and standard plate counts in the
urban, peri-urban and rural areas were 4.7X103 and 104, 3.1X104 and4.6X104,
2.2X105 and 5X105, respectively. The overall result of adulteration and acidity were
26.11 and 0.21, in CFU respectively. The general hygienic practice followed by
households with dairy cows in the area is poor. Feed shortage is the biggest problem
for all the study sites, whereas shortage of land is a priority problem for urban and
peri-urban dairy owners and lack of improved breeds is a priority problem for the
rural farmers. Reduction of
milk production and quality affects child
milk
consumption. Therefore, further research works to address constraints and to improve
child
milk consumption are imperative.

Sisteme smeštaja i držanja životinja u intenzivnoj
proizvodnji karakteriše visoka upotreba mehanizacije, velika
gustina životinja i veliko opterećenje organizma. U takvim
sistemima nije uvek moguće zadovoljiti osnovne potrebe životinja i
one se tada teško prilagođavaju životnoj sredini. U sistemu
zatvorenog stajskog držanja (staje sa sistemom vezanog držanja ili
staje sa boksevima u kojima se sprovodi slobodan sistem držanja
krava) posebno je važno voditi računa o zdravstvenom stanju papaka.
. Zdravi ekstremiteti i dobra pokretljivost su od suštinske
važnosti za dobrobit i dobru produktivnost goveda, posebno muznih
krava. Ako se papci ne neguju na odgovarajući način nastaju brojna
oboljenja lokomotornog aparata. Imajući u vidu učestalost pojave,
ekonomski gubici uslovljeni raznolikom patologijom lokomotornog
aparata su veoma značajni. Oni se ogledaju u preranom isključivanju
krava iz proizvodnje, smanjenju proizvodnje mleka i troškovima
lečenja. Problem šepavosti mlečnih krava može se izjednačiti sa
problemom bolesti papaka, jer su upravo bolesti papaka
najznačajniji uzrok šepavosti u intenzivnom držanju ovih životinja.
Danas se smatra da bolesti papaka obuhvataju infektivne bolesti,
bolesti interdigitalnog prostora i rožine papka i, kao poseban
problem, pojavu laminitisa. U naučnoj literaturi u svetu postoje
brojni podaci koji ukazuju da kod šepavosti nastaje znatno
smanjenje količine mleka. Međutim, podaci koji se odnose na sastav
mleka kod šepavosti, zastupljeni su u znatno manjem obimu. U našoj
zemlji nema dovoljno novijih naučnih saznanja o učestalosti pojave
šepavosti i njenom uticaju na osobine mlečnosti krava, kao i o
najznačajnijim uzrocima i predisponirajućim faktorima šepavosti na
našim farmama. Pri koncipiranju programa i postavljanju ciljeva
istraživanja ove doktorske disertacije pošlo se od osnovne hipoteze
da pojava šepavosti može znatno uticati na proizvodnju mleka, kao i
da je izraženost šepavosti krava u korelaciji sa smanjenom
količinom mleka krava simentalske rase...

▼ The aim of this thesis is to enquire into genetic approaches for improving milk yield from dairy cattle in order to overcome the milk shortage in Bangladesh. Survey work on the dairy industry was carried out to reveal its current status. The collected data of different genotypes (Pabna cattle, Australian-Friesian-Sahiwal Pabna, Holstein Pabna, Jersey Pabna, and Sahiwal Pabna) from 1999 to 2001, and in two seasons, were used to predict model parameters, fit-statistics and total lactation yields, by fitting ten lactation curve models. Best fitting model(s) were chosen on the basis of fit-statistics. The input parameters from best fiting model(s) were used for: developing a deterministic model; estimating the profitability of individual cows; estimating whole farm profitability; and for developing a profit function to estimate the economic values of traits in breeding objectives. The individual cow performances for different traits were stochastically simulated in respect of additive genetic, permanent and temporary error, herd and age effects, and mendelian sampling under progeny and parent-average testing breeding schemes based on three selection objectives applied over on 20 year period. Genetic gains in different traits were calculated from the regression of trait values on the selection index.
The estimated lactation curves model parameters, and predicted lactation milk yield were significantly different between breeds, years and seasons. From four fit-statistics values, the CCC value was considered superior, and this value indicated that the Nelder model best represented the test day records. The net annual income for Holstein Pabna cattle was the highest (US229) and was lowest (US115) for Pabna cattle, while all other genotypes were intermediate. The economic values (EVs) of milk yield for all genotypes were similar (US0.32), and due to payment for milk volume only, the EVs of fat and protein were negative. EVs of liveweight, calving intervals and calving rate were negative, but survivability was positive in all genotypes. The parent-average testing selection scheme showed higher genetic gains than progeny testing. The highest (US15.80) genetic gain was obtained for milk yield when selection was for milk merit only.
The study will assist in undertaking a genetic improvement programme for the increase of milk production in Bangladesh and thereby enhance food security.

▼ Maternal milk production influences calf weaning weight which is the major driver for
economic return in a cow-calf operation. The objective of this study was to use measures of
calf milk intake to estimate milk production of Angus (AA; n=43), Angus×Friesian (AF;
n=32), Angus×Jersey (AJ; n=40) and Angus×Kiwi-Cross (AK; n=21) cows, and to determine
how milk yield was related to calf growth rate (n=64) from birth to one year of age. Milk
production was estimated by the weigh-suckle-weigh (WSW) technique at an average 32, 49,
80, 120 and 160 days (D) post-partum. Third-order Legendre polynomials were fitted to milk
data using random regression to estimate the lactation curve for each cow. Live weight of all
steers was recorded at birth and thereafter accompanying every WSW measurement. Postweaning
live weight was recorded at an average D240, D330 and D350 of age. Growth
curves for each steer were estimated by fitting third-order Legendre polynomials to live
weight data using random regression. The average total milk production from D32 to D160
was 1337 ± 22 kg for AF cows, 1245 ± 20 kg for AJ cows, 1301 ± 32 kg for AK cows and
1017 ± 20 kg for Angus cows. The AF, AJ and AK cows produced more (P<0.05) milk from
D32 to D160 than the AA cows. The AF cows produced more (P<0.05) milk than AJ cows,
with AK cows being intermediate and not differing (P>0.05) from either AF or AJ cows.
Crossbred cows produced more milk (P<0.05) at all stages of lactation when compared with
straightbred AA cows. In the present study, as the proportion of Friesian or Jersey in the
crossbreds increased from 0 to 50%, an extra 325 kg and 240 kg of milk, respectively, was
expected compared to the AA cows. Total energy intake from milk was higher (P<0.05) for
the AF-, AJ- and AK-reared steers compared to those reared by AA dams. This resulted in
higher liveweight gains so that steers reared by crossbred cows were heavier (P<0.05) from
D60 to D270 than those reared by AA cows. Results also revealed that the higher live weight
at D60 in AJ-reared steers compared to AA-reared steers was due to differences in milk
consumption from D32 to D60. The higher live weight of AF- and AK-reared steers at D60
compared to AA-reared steers was attributed to a maternal effect on steer size; however, from
D90 until weaning at D160, any differences in live weight were due to differences in milk
consumption. Estimation of the theoretical pasture consumption revealed that AA- reared
steers compensated for the lower milk intake by eating more grass, however, this was not
enough to support high daily gains during the pre-weaning period. The differences in live
weight seen at weaning between steers were maintained post-weaning until D270 and were

Since the abolition of EU Milk quotas in April 2015, milk production in Ireland has grown by 60% more than anticipated. Dairy processing requires a significant hydraulic demand, with approximately 2.5 m3 of water required to process 1 m3 of milk. This research examined water usage and opportunities for reduction, recovery and reuse within the Irish dairy industry.
Previous research into dairy waste streams is limited, with no real focus on chemical analysis of these waste streams. EU standards have not been widely compared to dairy waste streams and their seasonality year on year across multiple sites is not evident.
Through collaboration with experts in nationwide sites critical areas of concern in terms of waste volumes, water cleanliness and technologies were discussed and led to a stable foundation for this research.
Through thorough investigation of Irish Dairy waste streams this research was inconclusive in its ability to clearly group or classify waste streams within the industry. This in turn leads to ensuring any recovery technologies are competent of recovering a large variation of contaminated streams.
Filtration technologies are currently in use in Dairy Industries within some production areas. However, it had yet to be investigated if this technology could assist with promising results in waste treatment. Ultrafiltration, Nanofiltration and Reverse Osmosis technologies were investigated with UF showing the least promise and RO the highest reduction of undesirables. This research then concluded that RO polishing post initial filtration poses conditions for optimum clean water recovery.
Zeolites are a cheap, widely available and naturally occurring material that has been used in pharmaceutical and fine chemical industries for ca. 100 years. Extrapolating from the results obtained in this work, one would expect zeolites 4Å and 13X to clean 180m3 and 230m3 of dairy wastewater per tonne of material which translates to processing 72m3 and 92m3 of milk.
Customer perception remains a significant misunderstood obstacle. Studying socioeconomical aspects of human behaviour, both within and external to an industrial setting, may aid in understanding people’s reluctance, and indeed, tendency to reuse traditional industrial waste streams.

▼ The objective was to evaluate site of infusion of 109 CFU/g of Lactobacillus acidophilus and 10^ 9 CFU/g Propionibacterium freudenreichii (DFM) on DMI, rumen kinetics, ruminal VFA, digestibility, milk production, milk components, and blood metabolites in lactating dairy cows. A total of 4 Holstein cows equipped with ruminal cannulas were used in Latin square design experiment with 4 periods. Each period consisted of 14 d of no treatment to prevent crossover contamination, 14 d of adaptation to treatments, 8 d of sampling, and 1 d for ruminal evacuations for a total of 37 d. Within each period, cows were assigned to 1 of 4 treatments: 1) cows fed a TMR formulated to meet or exceed nutrient requirements plus 5 g of lactose twice daily without the addition of direct fed microbial (CONTROL); 2) cows fed the TMR with a daily dose of DFM top dressed on the feed twice daily 3) cows fed the TMR with ruminal infusion of the DFM administered twice daily (RI); and 4) cows fed the TMR plus abomasal infusion of the DFM twice daily (PRI). During the sampling period within each period, DMI and milk production were measured daily with set days for blood, and rumen fluid collection. Data were analyzed using the MIXED procedure of SAS with animal within period as a random effect. DMI was not different between treatments. No difference in rumen kinetics, pH, VFA (acetate, propionate, butyrate, and acetate/propionate ratio), ammonia, or digestibility. There was no difference in milk production (P > 0.87), butter fat (P > 0.21), milk protein (P > 0.83), lactose (P > 0.91), SNF (P > 0.88) , MUN (P > 0.49), and SCC (P > 0.54). No difference in most of the milk fatty acids except for 8:0 which had a greater concentration (P > 0.01) in PRI over control, TD, and RI. Route of administering DFM overall had no effects on DMI, rumen kinetics, ruminal VFA, digestibility, milk production or milk components in the present experiment.

▼ ENGLISH ABSTRACT: Ruminal pH is the rumen condition that varies most. Studying the cause and effect of diurnal variation offers a means of improving ruminal conditions for rumen micro-organisms with subsequent improvements in fibre degradation,
milk yields and
milk composition. A research project was conducted to test the following hypothesis: feeding 6 kg (as is) concentrate per cow/day in different weight ratios, divided in a morning and an afternoon allocation, will result in an improved ruminal pH profile and a concurrent increase in fibre fermentation,
milk yield and improved
milk composition. The project was conducted at the Outeniqua Research Farm in the Southern Cape of South Africa. A randomized block design was used and two phases, viz. ryegrass phase and a kikuyu phase, were applied. Each phase was conducted during the growing season of the grass specie used as pasture. A rumen study and a
production study were done in each phase. The rumen study used six cannulated multiparous cows per treatment, testing rumen pH, volatile fatty acid (VFA) concentration, in sacco degradation of neutral detergent fibre (NDF) and dry matter (DM). The
production study used 42 multiparous cows, blocked according to days in
milk (DIM), parity and
milk yield, and cows were randomly divided into three treatment groups. The study tested
milk yield,
milk composition and changes in body weight (BW) and body condition score (BCS). Treatments consisted of a maize based concentrate supplement (6 kg per cow/day, as is) being fed to cows on pasture in different weight ratios between morning and afternoon allocation. Treatments used in the
production study were:
Concentrate fed: 5 kg during morning; 1 kg during afternoon
• Concentrate fed: 4 kg during morning; 2 kg during afternoon
• Concentrate fed: 3 kg during morning; 3 kg during afternoon
The first and the last treatments mentioned above were used in the rumen studies. Results of the rumen study of the ryegrass phase showed no differences in ruminal pH between treatment means. The time (h) spent below the critical ruminal pH, i.e. 5.8, was of short duration (2.92 to 3.42 hours). The concentration of certain VFA’s differed at times, but the differences were not reflected in graphs and data of the ruminal pH. No differences were observed in in sacco NDF and DM degradation between treatment means. Similar results were mostly obtained in the kikuyu phase. No differences were found in either daily maximum, minimum or mean ruminal pH between treatment means. Though time (h) spent below the critical ruminal pH was of a long duration (7.1 hours) it did not differ between treatments. No differences were observed between treatment means for in sacco NDF and DM degradation.

production study of the ryegrass phase showed no differences in
milk yield or
milk composition between treatment means. The same was observed in the kikuyu phase except that

vienintelis gyvas organizmas, išgyvenęs žemėje, dėl unikalios
biocheminės sudėties nepakitęs šimtus milijonų metų. Tai kruopščiai
gamtos subalansuotas vitaminų, mineralų ir aminorūgščių rinkinys.
Spirulina platensis labai turtinga aukštos biologinės vertės
baltymų. Jie sudaro apie 70 proc. spirulinos sudėties. Šie baltymai
gyvūnų labai lengvai pasisavinami, pasisavinimo koeficientas siekia
iki 90 proc. Iš spirulinoje esančių 18 būtinų gyvūnams aminorūgščių
8 yra nepakeičiamos. 10 g sausos spirulinos medžiagos betakarotino
yra tiek, kiek 10 kg morkų sausosios medžiagos. Spirulinos sudėtyje
daug mėlynojo pigmento fikocianino, vienintelės pasaulyje žinomos
medžiagos, galinčios stabdyti vėžinių ląstelių dauginimąsi.
Gamalinolininės rūgšties yra randama tik piene ir spirulinoje.
Dumblyje daug gliutamininės rūgšties, tirozino, cistino, arginio,

Aim of the work- to appoint of Spirulina
platensis the complementary influence of dairy cows health and milk
production and composition. Objectives of the work: to analyze the
literary data on Spirulina platensis usability; to analyze the diet
of dairy cows during the indoor period in specific farm; to assess
the health of cows and milk somatic cell count; to investigate the
effectiveness of supplements on milk yield by Spirulina platensis;
to investigate the effectiveness of Spirulina platensis of
complementary milk fat, protein and lactose content. The main
attention was of Spirulina platensis supplemention efficiency on
animal production analysis and dairy cows’ milk quality. Analogue
of the principle of the test was made of two Lithuanian Black and
White cows group (after 12 cows in each of them) according to age,
body weight, milk yield and milk composition. The first group was a
control group, which only fed the basic ration of feed, the second
– experimental, which was the main diet and supplement of Spirulina
platensis – 25 g per day for each cow. Conclusions: 1. It was found
that Spirulina platensis is a unique valuable nutrients, natural
protein, source of trace elements, vitamins and enzymes. Therefore
appropriate to use in prevention of animal nutrition supplement

karvėms naudojamų pašarų racioną, jų sudėtis. Susipažinti su pašarų
ruošimu. Išnagrinėti pašaro įtaką pieno produktyvumo rodikliams bei
pieno baltymams. Apibendrinti tyrimų rezultatus, pateikti išvadas
ir pasiūlymus. Darbas atliktas 2009-2011 metais X ūkyje. Darbo metu
naudota mokslinė literatūros analizė, tyrimų statistinės analizės,
duomenų sisteminimo ir apibendrinimo metodai. Tyrimo metu, iš gautų
rezultatų nustatyta, kad ūkyje yra laikomos melžiamos karvės,
kurios pasižymi aukštu produktyvumu. Taip pat ūkyje nusistovėjusi
pašarų bazė, todėl galvijai gauna tą patį racioną ištisus metus,
keičiasi tik raciono procentinė išraiška. Didžiausias pasikeitimas
įvyko per pastaruosius metus, kadangi nuo laktacinio šėrimo buvo
pereita prie vieno raciono, kuris taikomas visoms melžiamoms
karvėms, neįskaitant jų laktacijos tarpsnių. Tai įtakojo žemesnius
produktyvumo procentinės išraiškos rodiklius – 2009 metais
vidutiniškai gauta 3,5% pieno baltymų 1 kg, o 2010 metais tik 3,32%
pieno baltymų 1 kg. Tačiau išaugo bendras primilžis – 2009 metais
iš vienos karvės per laktaciją buvo primelžta 7137,54 kg pieno, o
2010 metais iš melžiamos karvės gauta vidutiniškai 7413,97 kg
pieno. Atsižvelgus į tyrimų rezultatus, siūlytume keisti raciono
sudėtį, kadangi didelis baltymingų pašarų kiekis neigiamai veikia

The tasks of this work: review the base and
feed rations for dairy cows used; an explanation processes
concentrates and other feed preparation, the distribution,
rationing; identify impact of diets: feed meal; quantity and
quality of milk production; economic effect; analyze data to cow
productivity and reproduction; summarize the results, present
conclusions and suggestions. The material was collected in
2009-2010, in the agricultural company „X“. Nature of the work is
analytical and comparative. Scientific literature analysis,
summarize and systematize statistics, research analysis methods are
used during the work. During the study, the results indicate that
the farm is considered to be dairy cows, which are characterized by
high productivity. It is also holding a well-established base of
feed, animals received the same diet throughout the year, changing
only a percentage of the diet. The biggest change occurred during
the past year, since lactation feeding was shifted to a diet, which
applies to all dairy cows in addition to their lactation. It
influenced the lower indicatorsof the productivity percentage - in
2009 received an average of 3.5% milk protein 1 kg, and in 2010
only 3.32% of milk protein 1kg. However, the total increase milk

Praktinio mokymo ir bandymų centro pašarų, naudojamų melžiamų
karvių šėrime, kiekybinius ir kokybinius rodiklius bei racionus ir
karvių produktyvumą. Darbo uždaviniai: 1. Nustatyti kiek ir kokių
pašarų sukaupta ūkyje melžiamų karvių šėrimui per pastaruosius 2
metus. 2. Išanalizuoti ūkio melžiamų karvių šėrimą ganykliniu ir
tvartiniu laikotarpiais. 3. Išanalizuoti karvių produktyvumo ir
pieno kokybinius rodiklius. Atlikus analizę buvo nustatyta, kad
tirtame ūkyje daugiausiai laikoma Vokietijos juodmargių veislės
(~50 proc.) ir Lietuvos juodmargių (~30 proc.) karvių. Daugiausiai
bandoje buvo 1 – 3 laktacijų karvių (78,6 - 83,5 proc. visos bandos
karvių). Vidutinis karvių produktyvumas 6835 kg pieno 4,23 proc.
riebumo, 3,3 proc. baltymingumo; vidutinis somatinių ląstelių
skaičius - 287 tūkst./ml. Atlikus melžiamų karvių šėrimui pašarų
bazės analizę nustatėme, kad ūkis daugiausiai sukaupė vienmečių
žolių siloso (873,9 t). Pašarų kokybės parametrų analizė parodė,
kad siloso kokybės parametrų fermentacijos rodiklis kokybė ir
stabilumas yra geri. Tyrimų metu išanalizuoti karvių racionai pagal
mitybinius rodiklius tiek tvartiniu, tiek ganykliniu laikotarpiu
buvo praktiškai panašūs ir orientuoti į 21 l pieno primilžį.
Išvados: 1. Tirtame ūkyje melžiamų karvių skaičius padidėjo nuo 145
vnt. 2011m. iki 199 vnt. 2012 m. Bandos analizė pagal karvių
veisles parodė, kad daugiausiai laikomų karvių yra Vokietijos

Aim of paperwork: To analize the feed, used
for feeding dairy cows at the LUHS VA Practical training and
testing centre and to analyze their quantative and qualitative
indicators, rations and productivity of cows. The goals: 1.
Determine the amount and type of feed accumulated in the farm for
dairy cows feeding in the last 2 years. 2. To analyze the feeding
of dairy cows on pasture and indoor feeding periods. 3. To analyze
the productivity of cows and milk quality indicators. The analysis
showed that the studied farm mainly considered German Black &
White (~50 per cent.), and the Lithuanian Black and White (~ 30
percent) cows. Most herds were 1 -3 lactation cows (78.6 to 83.5
percent. entire herd of cows). Average productivity of 6835 kg of
cow, milk fat - 4.23 percent., mikk protein - 3.3 per cent. The
average somatic cell count - 287 thous./ml. Dairy cows feed
database analysis found that the farm mainly accumulated perennial
grass silage (873.9 t). Feed quality parameters showed that quality
parameters of silage fermentation rate quality and stability is
good. Studies to analyze the rations by nutritional indicators both
indoor and outdoor period was practically similar and focus on the
21 l milk yield.

gyvulininkystės šaka. Pagal Lietuvos žemės ūkio ir kaimo plėtros
strategiją pieninė galvijininkystė pripažinta viena iš
prioritetinių žemės ūkio šakų. Mūsų šalyje 2006 metais pieno gamyba
sudarė 23 % bendrosios žemės ūkio produkcijos. Pieną bei jo
produkciją gamina daugiau nei 180 tūkst. ūkio subjektų.
Pastaraisiais metais apie 50 proc. perdirbto pieno yra
eksportuojama. Todėl labai svarbu gerinti šios gamybos efektyvumą.
2006 metais iš vienos karvės Lietuvoje vidutiniškai primelžta 4484
kg pieno arba 12 proc. daugiau nei 2002 metais. Nors šalyje
vidutinis pieno primilžis iš karvės nuolat didėja, bet kol kas yra
vienas mažiausių ES. Pienininkystei plėtoti yra palankios gamtinės
sąlygos, šalyje veisiami galvijai gerai prisitaikę prie esamos
pašarų bazės, jų genetinis produktyvumas gana aukštas. Tačiau dėl
konkurencijos augant reikalavimams šalies ir užsienio rinkose,
reikia siekti efektyvesnio pieno ūkio vystymo. Pieno gamyboje
daugiau nei 60 proc. išlaidų tenka pašarams. Tod��l jų gamybos
kaštai, kokybė ir maistingumas daro didžiausią įtaką pieno gamybos
ekonomiškumui. Mažinant pieno gamybos savikainą, labai svarbu
pasiekti aukštą pašarų maisto medžiagų konversiją. Efektyviau
panaudoti pašarus ir, esant tiems patiems ištekliams, gauti daugiau
produkcijos padeda įvairių pašarų paruošimo šėrimui būdų taikymas.

Dairy farming has always been a primary
important branch of cattle breeding in our country. Dairy farming
is considered to be the essential direction of the strategy of
agricultural development in the country of Lithuania. Dairy
production made 23% of total agricultural production during the
year of 2006. Milk and dairy production is produced by more than
180 thousands of agricultural subjects. About 50% of produced milk
has been exported recently. It explains why economical efficiency
of the production is especially important. Despite the fact that an
average milk production per cow has been increasing recently, but
it remains among the lowest ones in the EU. During the year of 2006
an average milk production per cow made 4484 kg of milk, 13% more
than in 2000. It should be stated that our country is distinguished
by quite favorable conditions for dairy farming. The cattle bred in
the country are adjusted to the existing forage basis and the
potential of their genetic productivity is rather high.
Nevertheless, the higher requirements caused by the competition on
the inner and foreign market force to seek for the more efficient
development of dairy farming. About 60% of expenditure in milk
production is spent on forage. That is why costs of forage
production, quality and nutritional value mainly determine milk

kilimėlių. Taikomas trumpasaitis laikymo būdas. Karvės vasarą
išgenamos į ganyklas. Tiek tvartiniu, tiek ganykliniu laikotarpiu,
karvės melžiamos automatizuotai į pieno linijas. Girdomos iš
automatinių girdyklų, šeriamos du kartus per parą. Karvės tvartiniu
laikotarpiu šeriamos koncentruotais pašarais, kukurūzų ir žolės
silosu, šienu. Ganykliniu laikotarpiu jos gauna koncentruotųjų
pašarų ir kultūrinių ganyklų žolės. Fermoje yra laikoma 100
melžiamų karvių, 38 telyčios, 26 veršeliai (iki 6 mėn. amžiaus).
Fermoje laikomų galvijų veislės : Lietuvos juodmargės, Holšteinų,
Lietuvos žalosios. 2013 metais vidutinis bandos produktyvumas buvo
5391,2 kg pieno, vidutinis pieno riebumas – 4,34 proc., pieno
baltymingumas – 3,63 proc. Tyrimo rezultatai: Tvartiniu laikotarpiu
kraujo serume nustatyta bendrųjų baltymų – 63,5 g/l,(p > 0,05),
gliukozės – 3,35 mmol/l,(p<0,05), kalcio – 2,2 mmol/l, magnio –
0,95 mmol/l, fosforo – 1,75 mmol/l, (p<0,01). Ganykliniu
laikotarpiu kraujo serume nustatyta bendrųjų baltymų – 65,4 g/l,
gliukozės – 3,0 mmol/l, kalcio – 2,5 mmol/l, magnio – 0,87 mmol/l,
fosforo 1,58 mmol/l. Kraujo tyrimai parodė, kad karvės yra sveikos,
didelių nuokrypių nuo fiziologinių normų nebuvo. Pieno tyrimuose
tvartiniu laikotarpiu nustatėme riebalų - 4,24 proc. (p<0,01),
baltymų – 4, 05 proc. (p<0,01), laktozės – 4,51 proc.

In winter period those cows lives on the
mats. The short leash storage method is applied. In the summer
period cows stays in pasture. In both indoor and outdoor periods
cows are milked in automated milk lines. They drink from automated
watering place and they are fed twice a day. During the stable
period cows are fed with concentrate food, corn and grass silage,
hay. Following a free-range period they eat a concentrated food and
cultivated pasture grass. In this farm there are a 100 dairy cows,
38 heifers and 26 calf (up to six months). The breeds of cows:
Lithuanian Black and White, Holstein, Lithuanian red. In 2013 the
average productivity of the herd was 5391,2 kg of milk. The average
fat level - 4,34 prercent, milk protein level - 3,63 percent. The
results: The results of blood test in indoor period have shown :
crude protein – 63,5 g/l (p > 0,05). Glucosis – 3,35
mmol/l,(p<0,05). Ca – 2,2 mmol/l, Mg – 0,95 mmol/l, P – 1,75
mmol/l, (p<0,01). In grazing period, milk test have shown :
crude protein – 65,4 g/l. Glucosis – 3,0 mmol/l. Ca – 2,5 mmol/l,
Mg – 0,87 mmol/l, P - 1,58 mmol/l. The blood tests showed that the
cows are healthy. There were no significant deviations from the
norms. The results of milk in indoor period have shown : milk fat -

Confirm steady state is reached by hour 2 of the Lai et al. hourly
breast expression protocol, and externally validate
milk production
rate (MPR) can be estimated from the mean of hour 2 and hour 3
milk
yield; 2) Determine if an increase in MPR is detectible following
48 hours of increased breast emptying; 3) Assess agreement between
maternal
milk production estimated by MPR compared to infant
test-weighing, and 4) Characterize MPR mean and variance in a
sample of mothers exclusively breastfeeding infants achieving
appropriate weight gain.Design: Eligible mothers were 4-10 weeks
postpartum and exclusively breastfeeding their term infants. In a
research clinic, mothers emptied both breasts at baseline (h0), and
hourly over 3 subsequent hours (h1, h2, h3) using a hospital-grade
pump. We estimated mother’s steady-state MPR as mean (h2, h3).
“Study A’ subset completed MPR measurements before and after 48
hours of increased breast emptying. “Study B” subset test-weighed
their infant before and after breastfeeding for 48 hours (1-7 days
before clinic visit). We used paired t-test for within-participant
comparisons and used the Bland-Altman approach to compare 24-hour
milk production (g/24h) measured using TW versus MPRx24h.Results:
Among 23 mothers 54±14 days postpartum,
milk output was 185±55,
60±26, 47±13, 44±13 g/h at h0, h1, h2, and h3, respectively. Mean
paired difference (vs. h3) was significant at h0 and h1
(p<0.05), but not h2 (p>0.05, h3-h2=3±10 g/h). In Study A
(n=5), mean MPR declined from 50±13 g/h to 43±16g/h (p=0.003)
following increased breast emptying. In Study B (n=16), mean TW
milk output=717±119 g/24h, and mean MPRx24h=1085±300 g/24h. Mean
difference [95% limits of agreement] was 368 [±468] g/24h; and mean
ratio was 1.5[±0.4]; difference and ratio significantly increased
as MPR increased (p<0.05). For infants with adequate weight gain
velocity of >20g/d (n=12) mean MPR was 48±12g/h, and ranged from
35 to 78 g/h.Conclusions: Hourly
milk production reaches steady
state at h2; thus MPR is a valid measure of current maternal
milk
production capacity but is not feasible for evaluating infant
intake in early lactation. After 48 hours of increased breast
emptying MPR declined, indicating a deeper level of hourly breast
emptying may have been reached. An MPR =35g/h is consistent with
successful exclusive breastfeeding in early
lactation.

▼ A partir da década de 1990 ocorreram, em todo o território brasileiro, crescimentos na produção e produtividade leiteiras. Esse fato é conseqüência das transformações ocorridas na cadeia leiteira, a partir desse período, as quais se sucederam com o fim do tabelamento do leite no ano de 1991, abertura comercial e consolidação do MERCOSUL. Uma das conseqüências diretas dessas transformações foi a crescente instalação de indústrias de laticínios multinacionais, em território nacional, dentre elas a Parmalat. Nesse sentido, o município de Carazinho, RS também apresentou crescimentos na produção e produtividade leiteiras. Como a Parmalat se instalou nesse município na década de 1990, a presente pesquisa procurou verificar o grau de influência tecnológica dessa empresa junto aos produtores de leite do local. Para tanto, escolheu-se, como amostra da pesquisa, um distrito de Carazinho denominado Distrito de São Bento. Dessa forma, verificou-se que essa empresa trouxe impactos para o contexto da produção leiteira no município, mas que o principal impacto está relacionado às exigências de qualidade do leite através da Instrução Normativa 51 (IN 51), lei esta promulgada, em todo o país, no ano de 2002.
From the 1990's occurred throughout the Brazilian territory, increases in milk production and productivity. This is a consequence of changes in the dairy chain, from that period, which is done with the end of the table of the milk in the year 1991, trade liberalization and consolidation of MERCOSUR. One of the direct consequences of these changes was the increasing installation of the dairy multinational industries in the national territory, including the Parmalat. Accordingly, the municipality Carazinho, RS also showed increases in milk production and productivity. As Parmalat is installed in that city in the 1990s, this research sought to verify the degree of influence that technology with the company's local milk producers. For both, chose, as the research sample, a district of Carazinho called District of St. Benedict. Thus, it was found that this company has impacts in the context of milk production in the municipality, but the main impact is related to demands for quality of milk through the Normative Instruction 51 (IN 51), enacted this law in any country, in 2002.

Elle implique la détermination de phases clés au cours de la période de croissance, notamment pour la mise en place de la glande mammaire. L’objectif de cette thèse était de déterminer les effets d’un sevrage précoce combiné à différentes conduites alimentaires post-sevrage sur les performances zootechniques de chevrettes de race alpine ainsi que sur le développement de leur glande mammaire. Tout d’abord, nous avons montré qu’un sevrage précoce à 10 kg de poids vif n’affectait ni le développement corporel, ni les performances de reproduction, ni même la production laitière (PL) des chevrettesPar contre, un apport plus élevé de concentré pendant la phase d’élevage a augmenté le développement corporel et le poids de la glande mammaire. Toutefois, cela n’a impacté ni le développement du parenchyme mammaire au cours de la phase pré-pubère ou en début de gestation, ni même la proportion de Cellule Epithéliale Mammaire (CEM). La prolifération des CEM était identique quelle que soit la quantité de concentré ingérée. La PL n’a pas été modifiée par l’augmentation de l’ingestion de concentré. La modification de la concentration en énergie et en protéines du concentré en phase pré-pubère n’a eu d’effet ni sur les performances de croissance ou de reproduction, ni sur le développement de la glande mammaire. La chèvre semble donc s’adapter aux modifications de la conduite alimentaire sans pour autant que l’augmentation de croissanc
Control of husbandry management is essential to produce female goat kids that fully express their milk potential during their career. It involves the determination of key periods during growth, particularly for the mammary gland development. The objective of this thesis was to determinate the effects of early weaning combined with different post-weaning feeding strategies on the performances of alpine goat kids as well as on their mammary gland development. On the one hand, we showed that early weaning at 10 kg of body weight did not affect body development, reproductive parameters or milk production (MP). On the other hand, a high concentrate intake during the rearing period increased body development and the weight of mammary glands.However, this did not impact the development of mammary parenchyma during the pre-pubertal phase or at the beginning of gestation, nor even the proportion of Mammary Epithelial Cells (MEC). The proliferation of MEC was identical regardless of the amount of concentrate ingested. MP was not affected by increasing concentrate intake. Modifying the energy and protein concentration of the concentrate in the pre-pubertal period had no effect on growth, reproductive performance, mammary gland development or mammary parenchyma development. Therefore, goats seem to adapt to changes in feeding strategies without a negative effect of the increase in growth on their ability to produce milk.

▼ The overall aim of the present thesis was to improve milk production and milking routines in Burkina Faso. There is a long tradition of keeping livestock in Burkina Faso and there are large numbers of cattle in the country. However, Burkina Faso today depends on the import of meat and milk, and the domestic production is greatly in need of improvement. The first in this thesis study was a survey that aimed to investigate the current situation in dairy farming and milk processing in periurban areas of Burkina Faso. Two experimental studies and two field studies were designed to answer questions arising from the survey. Day-to-day variation in milk yield and milk composition was determined in ten multiparous Zebu cows. Three different hand-milking techniques identified in the survey were compared in twelve Zebu cows, milked by three different milkers. A milk recording pilot study was carried out on ten farms, with a total of 79 cows. Finally, milk hygiene was investigated along the dairy chain, from the cow to the dairy or market. The main constraints on milk production in peri-urban areas of Burkina Faso are low availability of feed and water, lack of selective breeding, milking management and lack of infrastructure. The milking routine was hand-milking and restricted suckling in both traditional and semi-intensive systems. The pilot milk recording data suggested it would be possible to improve milk production through selective breeding and that monthly milk recording would be useful for this purpose. The relative day-to-day variation in milk yield was much higher in hand-milked and restrictedly suckled cows (18-21%) than previously reported for machine milked cows (6-8%). Therefore, more frequent milk recording would be needed in order to use milk records for improving cow management. Three hand-milking techniques ("full hand grip", "thumb in" and "pull down") did not differ in their effects on teat treatment, milk yield or milk composition. However, different hand-milking techniques seemed to suit different milkers. Overall, low somatic cell counts were found in milk, which indicated good udder health. Milk was contaminated with bacteria directly after milking and the total bacteria count was dangerously high (10⁶-10⁷ cfu/ml) when the milk reached the consumers.

▼ A seleção para produção de leite vem aumentando a suscetibilidade de vacas leiteiras ao estresse térmico, principalmente em raças europeias em regiões tropicais e sub-tropicais. Cerca de 95% do rebanho leiteiro no Brasil é composto por animais mestiços. O objetivo deste trabalho, conduzido no campo experimental José Henrique Bruschi da Embrapa Gado de Leite, em Coronel Pacheco – MG, durante o mês de março de 2013, foi investigar alterações nos parâmetros fisiológicos de vacas leiteiras que identifiquem com maior fidedignidade o estresse calórico. Foram realizadas coletas de sangue para análise do hematócrito (Ht), contagem de eritrócitos (ERI) e contagem de hemoglobina (HEMO), além do registro da temperatura retal (TR), da frequência cardíaca (FC), da frequência respiratória (FR), do escore de ofegação (EO) em 38 fêmeas bovinas em lactação, divididas conforme o grupo genético em ½, ¾ e puras, durante seis dias nos turnos da manhã e da tarde. Os dados foram submetidos à análise da variância considerando os efeitos de grupo genético, dias, turnos e suas interações, com medidas repetidas no tempo e regressão “broken-line”. Houve efeito significativo para a interação grupo genético*dia*turno para TR, FC, FR e EO. Os valores de TR, FC, FR e EO do grupo de vacas puras HO foram maiores em relação ao grupo ¾ e esse em relação ao grupo ½. No grupo de vacas puras, as variáveis fisiológicas aumentaram linearmente com o Índice de Temperatura e Umidade (ITU), sem apresentar inflexão. O ponto de inflexão das curvas de variáveis fisiológicas ocorreu num valor de ITU mais alto para o grupo ½ em relação aos demais. Os valores de Ht e HEMO foram distintos entre os grupos genéticos, mas não variaram com o ITU, mostrando que o estresse provocado não foi suficiente para alterar os parâmetros hematológicos medidos. A média de ITU durante o turno da manhã foi de 74, quando 70, 43 e 13% das vacas puras, ¾ e ½, respectivamente, se apresentavam com a FR acima dos padrões de referência. A FR foi o melhor indicativo do estresse térmico e seu valor crítico foi de 140mov/min para as vacas Girolando e 168 mov/min para a raça Holandesa. Vacas da raça Holandesa são mais sensíveis ao estresse térmico do que cruzas Holandês-Zebuíno.

▼ Survival of Escherichia coli O157:H7 in fermented
dairy products has been attributed to acid-adaptation.
Acid-adaptation enhances resistance to extreme acid pH and confers
cross-protection to heterologous stresses. This study sought to
investigate whether acid-adaptation confers cross-protection to
lactoperoxidase (LP) system and lactic acid in Tryptone Soy Broth
(TSB), and to determine the mechanism of cross-protection.
Subsequently, cross-protection of acid-adapted E. coli O157:H7 to
the combination of LP activation, heat and lactic acid treatments
was determined in fresh goat
milk. Finally, the effect of LP
activation and E. coli O157:H7 survival on acid
production during
fermentation of traditional and commercial goat
milk was
investigated with indigenous cultures and single strain lactic acid
bacteria (LAB) respectively. Acid-adapted E. coli O157:H7 strain
UP10 showed high acid-resistance at pH levels 4.0 and 5.0 for up to
24 h in TSB at 25°C compared to non-adapted E. coli O157:H7.
Acid-adaptation also conferred cross-protection against activated
LP system and lactic acid challenge at pH 4.0 and 5.0. Results from
fatty acid analysis and quantitative real time Polymerase Chain
Reaction (RT-PCR) indicated that sigma S (RpoS)-independent systems
were responsible for acid-resistance and cross-protection in TSB.
Increase in the saturation of fatty acids, increased expression of
outer membrane porin, OmpC, and activation of the glutamate
decarboxylase system contributed to acid-resistance and
cross-protection. Growth of acid-adapted E. coli O157:H7 strains
UP10 and 1062 were inhibited in fresh goat
milk compared to the
non-adapted cells. Nonetheless, strain 1062 showed better growth
and resistance to activated LP in fresh goat
milk compared to
strain UP10. LP activation alone did not significantly inhibit
either acid-adapted or non-adapted E. coli O157:H7, but it
sensitized E. coli O157:H7 cells to sub-lethal heat treatment at 55
and 60°C. The combination of heat treatment at 60°C, LP activation
and lactic acid at pH 5.0 had a greater inhibitory effect on both
acid-adapted and non-adapted E. coli O157:H7, but the acid-adapted
strains displayed cross-protection against combined treatments.
This indicates that non-adapted E. coli O157:H7 can survive a
certain threshold of stresses unscathed. Below that threshold,
acid-adaptation may be detrimental to survival. LP activation did
not inhibit growth and acid
production by single strain and
indigenous LAB in the processing of commercial and traditional
fermented goat
milk products. LP activation however inhibited E.
coli O157:H7 in both the commercial and traditional goat
milk
products although E. coli O157:H7 had become acid-adapted during
the fermentation process. E. coli O157:H7 inhibition could be due
to the combination of LP activation, low pH, fermentation time and
antimicrobial compounds present in the
milk or produced by the LAB
during
milk fermentation. Results from this study suggest that

▼ Objetivou-se avaliar o impacto do genÃtipo caprino (Anglo-nubiana e Saanen), tipo de gramÃnea (capim-tanzÃnia e capim-tifton 85), manejo da mesma (intensivo, moderado e leve) e Ãpoca do ano (seca, transiÃÃo e chuvosa) sobre os parÃmetros anatomo-fisiolÃgicos, o comportamento, a produÃÃo e as caracterÃsticas fÃsico-quÃmicas do leite de cabras mantidas em diferentes modelos de produÃÃo em pasto cultivado e irrigado, na regiÃo SemiÃrida do Nordeste Brasileiro. Foram utilizadas trinta e seis cabras, que duas vezes por semana (manhà ou tarde) tiveram coletados os seus dados fisiolÃgicos (temperatura do pelame, temperatura retal, frequÃncia respiratÃria, frequÃncia cardÃaca e taxa de sudorese). Foram feitas trÃs coletas do pelame dos animais (espessura da capa do pelame, comprimento, densidade e diÃmetro dos pÃlos). As variÃveis ambientais foram registradas para o cÃlculo do Ãndice Entalpia de Conforto dos animais. Foram realizadas anÃlises do hemograma, assim como dosagens de cortisol, triiodotironina e tiroxina. Estas cabras ainda tiveram seu comportamento avaliado durante duas vezes por Ãpoca do ano e tambÃm tiveram coletados os seus dados de produÃÃo e caracterÃsticas fÃsico-quÃmicas do leite durante trÃs vezes por semana. Os dados foram expressos em mÃdia e erro padrÃo e avaliados por ANOVA, sendo as mÃdias comparadas pelo teste de Tukey (P<0,05). A produÃÃo de leite foi analisada por meio de regressÃo ao longo da lactaÃÃo. Observou-se que na Ãpoca de transiÃÃo (manhà e tarde) e chuvosa (tarde) os valores de temperatura e umidade foram determinantes para manterem os caprinos fora da zona de conforto tÃrmico. A temperatura do pelame foi maior para a Anglo-nubiana (36,7 ÂC); enquanto que a frequÃncia respiratÃria (73,6 resp.min-1) e cardÃaca (93,0 bat.min-1), comprimento (1,85 cm) e diÃmetro dos pÃlos (0,048 μm) foram mais elevadas para a Saanen, podendo indicar condiÃÃo de aclimatizaÃÃo ou adaptaÃÃo das mesmas. O comportamento ingestivo foi alterado com a Ãpoca do ano. Quanto à produÃÃo de leite, a Anglo-nubiana produz melhor em pastagem de capim-tifton 85 sob manejo intensivo ou em capim-tanzÃnia sob manejo moderado ou leve. Jà a Saanen produz melhor em pastagem de capim-tanzÃnia sob manejo intensivo ou em capim-tifton 85 sob manejo moderado ou leve. ▼ O objetivo deste trabalho foi traçar um diagnóstico da atual condição da produção de leite no município de Valença, maior produtor leiteiro do Estado do Rio de Janeiro, e através dos dados coletados junto a indústrias e propriedades rurais leiteiras prognosticar cenários futuros da atividade no município, frente a Instrução Normativa 51. A análise foi feita através de uma amostra de produtores registrados nas cinco indústrias captadoras de leite que concordaram em participar do estudo, somando 661 produtores. Dentre esses produtores foi determinada uma amostra estatística de 250 propriedades (α=0,05), com faixas de produção de até 50L, de 50 a 250L, e com mais de 250L de leite por dia, que foram sorteadas através do Microsoft - gerador de números aleatórios. A amostra foi avaliada através de um questionário contendo questões socioeconômicas dos produtores e ordenhadores, e questões relacionadas ao manejo da propriedade e produção, e por checklist com perguntas voltadas para tecnologia da obtenção de leite, com foco em sanidade, ordenha higiênica, cuidados do ordenhador e infraestrutura da propriedade. Para a interpretação dos resultados e elaboração do prognóstico foi utilizado o método SWOT (Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, Threats). Os resultados revelaram uma agropecuária de caráter tradicional com mão-de-obra predominantemente familiar com pouca participação dos filhos; uma subutilização do potencial leiteira e da área de produção; falta de sintonia entre captadores e produtores, com oscilações no volume de leite e restrições em capacitação; infra-estrutura das propriedades é precária para a obtenção de leite com qualidade; a higiene no setor está muito aquém do esperado para a obtenção de um produto com qualidade diferenciada; os ordenhadores não têm ciência da atual legislação, e a maioria não sabe o que fazer para elevar a qualidade do leite. Embora Valença tenha um grande potencial o prognóstico da produção de leite no município é reservado. Para as indústrias e produtores que demonstraram conscientização da necessidade de adequação o prognóstico é positivo, pois estes estão se preparando para se tornarem competitivos no setor. Porém os que não se adaptarem serão massacrados gradativamente, sendo excluídos do mercado consumidor. Indicando a necessidade de mobilização dos industriais captadores de leite na região para que a IN51 seja explorada positivamente, tornando-se uma oportunidade de retomar as rédeas do setor e voltar a ser uma potência leiteira na região, para auxiliar este programa de capacitação posem ser criados vínculos com instituições técnicas como faculdade de medicina veterinária, escola agrícola e campo experimental da EMBRAPA Gado de Leite, todos sediados no município. Mas para que este processo tenha sucesso, os produtores precisam perceber que o comprometimento com a qualidade é realidade no setor de beneficiamento, e que sua resistência às mudanças implicará em sua exclusão do mercado.

▼ O objetivo do experimento foi avaliar a temperatura vaginal em parâmetros produtivos e reprodutivos. Vacas Holandesas lactantes n = 641 (209 primíparas 36,9 ± 6,54 kg de leite / d; 432 multíparas 43,9 ± 9,77 kg de leite / d) tiveram a temperatura vaginal monitorada através de termômetros, anexados a um dispositivo intravaginal como parte de um protocolo de IATF. A temperatura vaginal foi registrada a cada 10 minutos durante três dias. A temperatura ambiente e a umidade relativa (ITU) foram mensuradas usando um termômetro externo colocado dentro do barracão. Os dados foram analisados com SAS 9.4 usando correlação de Pearson, ANOVA e regressão logística. Calculou-se o estresse térmico com base na porcentagem de tempo que a vaca ficou com uma temperatura vaginal ≥ 39,1°C (PCT). As vacas foram classificadas através de quartis (AltaPCT (3º quartil; PCT-60%) e BaixaPCT; PCT-16%) para PCT e o mediana para produção de leite, que eram diferentes para primíparas e multíparas. Houve uma baixa correlação entre ITU e produção de leite com PCT (r = 0,01), indicando maior variação na termorregulação. O BaixaPCT (22,4 e 13,9%) e o AltaPCT (12,6 e 9,7%) reduziram significativamente o P/AI no dia 30 e 52 pós-IA (P < 0,01) e sem interações com ordem, escore de condição corporal e ITU observados. A cor da pelagem e a espessura do couro não influenciaram o PCT (P > 0,1). Entretanto houve interação entre cor de pelagem, PCT e produção de leite, onde independente da PCT e produção de leite, vacas de cor branca apresentaram menor prenhez (P = 0,03). Em resumo, houve uma grande variabilidade em como as vacas respondem individualmente ao estresse térmico. A prenhez foi afetada somente em vacas com alta PCT independente da ordem, produção de leite, ECC. A seleção de animais com controle eficiente da temperatura corporal apesar da alta produção de leite deve ser abordada como uma estratégia para manter a fertilidade adequada.
The aim of the experiment was to evaluate vaginal temperature on productive and reproductive traits and potential genetic contribution to thermomtolerance. Lactating Holstein cows n = 641 (209 primíparous 36,9 ± 6,54 kg milk/d; 432 multíparous 43,9 ± 9,77 kg milk/d) had vaginal temperature monitored using thermometers, attached to an intravaginal device as part of a timed-AI protocol and recorded vaginal temperature every 10 minutes for 3 days. Ambient temperature and relative humidity (THI) were monitored using an external thermometer placed inside the barn. The data were analyzed with SAS 9.4 using Pearson correlation, ANOVA and logistic regression. Heat stress was calculated based on the percentage of time the cow spent with a vaginal temperature ≥39,1°C (PCT). Cows were classified using the 75th percentile threshold (HighPCT and LowPCT) for PCT and the median value for milk, which were different for primiparous and multiparous.
