▼ Microsoft Azure on Microsoftin luoma pilvipalvelualusta, joka on tarkoitettu sovellusten ja palveluiden rakentamiseen ja hallitsemiseen. Tämä opinnäytetyö keskittyy pääasiassa Azuren virtuaalikoneisiin. Opinnäytetyön tavoitteena oli tutkia kyseisen palvelun toimintoja ja käyttömahdollisuuksia. Tavoitteisiin kuului myös tutkia Azurea yritysnäkökulmasta: opinnäytetyössä tutkittiin, miten pienet ja suuret yritykset voisivat käyttää kyseistä palvelua yritystoiminnassaan sekä sitä, kuinka Azurea hyödynnetään Xbox One -ympäristössä. Opinnäytetyössä kerrotaan aluksi pilvipalveluista ja pilvilaskennan kolmesta yleisimmästä kategoriasta ja tämän jälkeen kerrotaan Azuresta. Lopuksi selvitetään parin artikkelin avulla, kuinka Azurea hyödynnetään Xbox One -ympäristössä. Tämän opinnäytetyön tarkoitus on toimia suomenkielisenä oppaana ihmisille, jotka haluavat tutustua Microsoft Azureen ja ehkä harkitsevat palvelun käyttämistä yksityisesti tai yritystoiminnassa. Opinnäytetyö keskittyi suurimmaksi osaksi Azuren virtuaalikoneisiin, joten tulevaisuudessa Azuresta voisi laatia oppaita, jotka keskittyisivät enemmän palvelun kaikkiin muihin eri mahdollisuuksiin.; Microsoft Azure is a cloud computing platform created by Microsoft and it is used to create and control applications and services. This thesis mainly focuses on Azure virtual machines. The objective of this thesis was to study the functionalities and potential uses of Microsoft Azure. One of the goals was to look at Azure from the business viewpoint and consider how organizations could use it in their business, and also to study how Microsoft Azure is used in the Xbox One environment. The first subject area covered in this thesis is cloud services on a general level, and the three most common cloud computing categories. After that, a discussion is provided on Azure. The last part of this thesis is about Azure and its uses in the Xbox One environment. This thesis was intended to act as a Finnish language guide for people who also want to study Microsoft Azure and might be thinking about using it for personal or business purposes. This thesis mainly focused on the virtual machine portion of Azure, so in the future it might be a good idea to create more guides about all the other services and possibilities offered by Azure.

The aim of this study has been to determine whether Microsoft Azure Service Bus has been able to match the needs and demands of Sogeti and its clients during a transition to a distributed and service-oriented system, as well as investi- gate possible gains that can be attained from such a transition. The study has also critically examined the potential problems and difficulties that may arise in such a scenario. The study has been accomplished using a literature study as well as the development of a Proof-of-Concept model to simulate such a system and to make calculations and surveys of and within one. The survey has shown that the Azure Service Bus does match the pre-defined requirements and requisites, as well as demonstrated how safe communication can be guaranteed using this particular service bus. The study concludes with an analysis of the study as a whole and the results thereof in particular, as well as proposes measures for further research on the subject. Finally, recommendations are made on how the client should proceed based on what is found in the study.

Målet med denna studie har varit att utröna huruvida Microsoft Azure Service Bus har kunnat matcha de behov och krav som Sogeti och dess klienter har på en sådan vid en övergång till ett distribuerat tjänsteorienterat system, samt undersöka vilka eventuella vinster som finns att göra vid en sådan övergång. Studien har också kritiskt granskat de problem och svårigheter som kan komma att uppstå. Undersökningen har gjorts med hjälp av en litteraturstudie samt en utveckling av en Proof-of-Concept-modell för att simulera ett sådant system och för att kunna göra beräkningar och undersökningar av och inom ett sådant. Undersökningen har visat att Azure Service Bus matchar de krav och önskemål som på förhand ställts, samt visat på hur säker kommunikation kan garanteras med hjälp av denna servicebuss. Undersökningen avslutas med en analys av studien som helhet och resultatet i synnerhet, samt föreslår åtgärder vid vidare forskning inom ämnet. Avslutningsvis lämnas rekommendationer på hur uppdragsgivaren ska gå tillväga baserat på vad som i studien framkommer.

The usage of the cloud is rapidly increasing and is something that is of large interest to everyone involved in technology. The purpose of this thesis is to examine the benefits and possible shortcomings of using Microsoft Dynamics AX in the cloud, specifically Microsoft Azure, instead of using local datacenters. This thesis project has been done at Scania IT using their implementation of Dynamics AX. This thesis project consists of an extensive literature study regarding both ERP Systems as well as other systems in regards to the cloud. It was decided early on to focus on the new version of Dynamics AX, which currently is only available in the cloud and compare this implementation to the two versions that the majority are using today, AX 2009 and AX 2012. The benefits of AX and Azure both being Microsoft products are clear with the welldesigned integrations and support all the way through the clients to the servers regarding backups and load balancing. It is shown how the developers have to work differently in regards to integrations with outside systems, especially in regards to AX 2009 with the frameworks having changed. The addition of Data Entities mean that the developers can save a lot of time by only needing a reference to the location of the object in the database instead of having to keep track of all the tables themselves. The analysis focuses on the differences in four different areas, performance & accessibility, scalability, cost savings as well as security & privacy. The background knowledge that is being used for the analysis primarily comes from the literature study as well as knowledge gained by studying the implementation at Scania today. The result shows that there are clear advantages regarding performance, cost savings and especially accessibility, however it is also clear that laws in a lot of countries still have not caught up with the fact that it is possible to use the cloud for data storage these days. Which in turn means that the best move in the near future for the majority of ERP users would be either a hybrid or private cloud within the borders of the same country.

Användningen av molnet är snabbt expanderande och är något som är relevant för alla inblandade inom teknologin. Meningen med det här projektet är att undersöka fördelarna och de möjliga problem som kan uppstå genom användning av Microsoft Dynamics AX I molnet, specifikt Microsoft Azure, istället för lokala datacenter. Det här projektet har utförts hos Scania IT med hjälp av deras nuvarande implementation av Dynamics AX. Arbetet innehåller en omfattande litteraturstudie angående både ERP system och andra system från varierande områden med fokus på molnet. Det beslutades tidigt att fokusera på den nya versionen av Dynamics AX, som för tillfället bara är tillgänglig I molnet, och jämföra denna implementationen med de två versionen som huvudsakligen används idag, AX 2009 och AX 2012. The majority of cloud storage platforms rely on a centralized structure, with the most popular being Microsoft Azure. Centralization causes consumers to rely on the provider to maintain accessibility and security of data. However, platforms such as Storj.io are based on a decentralized structure. To become decentralized, Storj.io uses blockchain technology in a means to create an automated consensus mechanism between the entities storing the data. There is however little research regarding performance and security issues on a decentralized platform based on blockchain technology. The purpose of this study is to identify the beneficial and non-beneficial aspects of using blockchain-based decentralized cloud storage as a substitute for centralized ones. The study focuses on performance and security. A comparative case study has been executed, consisting of an experiment and literature study. Quantitative data from an experiment was used in a hypothesis test to determine whether there were any performance differences between Microsoft Azure Blob Storage and Storj.io. A literature study generating qualitative data was then made to identify differences in security measures and from that also discuss potential security risks on a service like Storj.io. This study found that the performance of Storj.io was lower than Microsoft Azure’s Blob Storage. Causes of these results were identified to be due to the many more steps during resource allocation in Storj.io, compared to Blob Storage. Security risks identified in Storj.io through the literature study were generally connected to the consensus mechanism. However, research shows that it is very unlikely for the consensus mechanism to be compromised. Because Microsoft Azure’s service does not use a blockchain, these risks do not exist. For secure data transfer to Azure’s service, consumers have to implement encryption manually client-side. Therefore, this study could not conclude whether Storj.io is a safe alternative because a consumer using the Microsoft Azure service is responsible for implementing security measures. Conclusions drawn from this study are intended to act as new knowledge in the field of blockchain-based decentralized cloud storage. It is an outset to decide whether to use centralized cloud storage or blockchain-based decentralized cloud storage from a performance and security perspective.

Each step is analyzed, and the time to compromise is calculated.Attack simulations are primarily based on attack graphs. The graphs areemployed to model attack steps where nodes can represent assets in the system,and edges can represent the attack steps. To reduce the computational cost associatedwith building an attack graph for each specic system, domain-specicattack languages, or DSL for short, are used.The nal product of this thesis work is azureLang, a probabilistic modelingand simulation language for modeling Microsoft Azure cloud infrastructure.AzureLang is a DSL which denes a generic attack logic for MicrosoftAzure systems. Using azureLang, system administrators can easily instantiatespecic-system scenarios which emulate their Microsoft Azure cloud system infrastructure.After creating the model, attack simulation can be run to assessthe security of the model.

Cyberattacksimulering är en lämplig metod som används för att bedöma säkerhetenhos nätverkssystem. En angrepsimulering går stegvis från ett visst systeminmatningspunkt för att utforska angreppsbanorna som leder till olika svagheter i modellen. Varje steg analyseras och tiden för kompromettera beräknas.Attack-simuleringar baseras huvudsakligen på attackgrafer. Graferna används för att modellera angreppssteg där noder kan representera tillgångar i systemet, och kanterna kan representera attackenstegen. För att minska kostnaden för att skapa attackgrafer för varje specifikt system används domänspecifika språk eller DSL förkortat.Den slutliga produkten av detta examensarbete är azureLang, ett probabilistisk hotmodelleringsoch attacksimuleringsspråk för analys av Microsoft Azure Cloud Infrastructure. AzureLang är en DSL som definierar en generisk attacklogik för Microsoft Azure-system. Med hjälp av azureLang kan systemadministratörer enkelt ordna specifika systemscenarier som efterliknar deras Microsoft Azure cloudsystem infrastruktur. Efter att ha skapat modellen kan attack simu-lering köras för att bedöma modellens säkerhet.

Cloud Computing is becoming increasingly popular, with large amounts of corporations revenue coming in from various cloud solutions offered to customers. When it comes to choosing a solution, multiple options exist for the same problem from many competitors. This report focuses on the ones offered by Microsoft in their Azure platform, and compares the architectures in terms of performance and scalability.In order to determine the most suitable architecture, three offered by Azure are considered: Cloud Services (CS), Service Fabric Mesh (SFM) and Virtual Machines (VM). By developing and deploying a REST Web API to each service and performing a load test, average response times in milliseconds are measured and compared. To determine scalability, the point at which each service starts timing out requests is identified. The services are tested both by scaling up, by increasing the power of a single instance of a machine, and by scaling out, if possible, by duplicating instances of machines running in parallel.The results show that VMs fall considerably behind both CS and SFM in both performance and scalability, for a regular use case. For low amounts of requests, all services perform about the same, but as soon as the requests increase, it is clear that both SFM and CS outperform VMs. In the end, CS comes ahead both in terms of scalability and performance.Further research may be done into other platforms which offer the same service solutions, such as Amazon Web Services (AWS) and Google Cloud, or other architectures within Azure.

Molntjänster blir alltmer populära i dagens industri, där stora mängder av företagens omsättning består av tjänster erbjudna i form av molnlösningar. När det kommer till att välja en lösning finns många för samma problem, där det är upp till kunden att välja vilken som passar bäst. Denna rapport fokuserar på tjänster erbjudna av Microsofts Azure plattform, i en jämförelse av arkitekturer som belastningstestas för att mäta prestanda och skalbarhet.För att avgöra vilken arkitektur som är optimalast mäts tre olika tjänster erbjudna i Azure: Cloud Services (CS), Service Fabric Mesh (SFM) och Virtual Machines (VM). Detta görs genom att utveckla och deploya ett REST Web API som är simulerat med användare, där prestanda mäts genom att ta medelresponstiden i millisekunder per anrop. För att avgöra skalbarhet identifieras en punkt där tjänsten inte längre klarar av antalet inkommande anrop och börjar returnera felkoder. Maskinerna för varje tjänst testas både genom att skala upp, genom att förstärka en maskin, men även genom att skala ut, där det skapas flera instanser av samma maskin.Resultatet visar att Virtual Machines hamnar betydligt efter både CS och SFM i både prestanda och skalbarhet för ett vanligt användarfall. Cílem práce bylo vytvořit konferenční informační systém jako webovou aplikaci na platformě .NET pro neziskovou organizaci Zámecké návrší, p.o. včetně zajištění jejího nasazení a provozu v produkčním prostředí. Před zahájením vývoje bylo nutné seznámit se s platformou .NET a porovnat rámce pro webový vývoj. V práci je představena vhodnost jednotlivých rámců pro různé druhy aplikací. Na základě analýzy prostředí .NET byl pro implementaci konferenčního informačního systému vybrán rámec DotVVM. Vývoj aplikační logiky probíhal metodou testy řízený vývoj. Díky kombinaci vhodných rámců, technologií a přístupů bylo dosaženo efektivního vývoje s úspěšným vytvořením bezpečné a rychlé webové aplikace.; The .NET platform offers several frameworks, technologies and approaches for web applications development. A good survey of these technologies is necessary for selecting effective implementation technologies. The aim of the thesis was to create a conference information system as a web application on the .NET platform for the non-profit organization Zámecké návrší, p.o. including its deployment and operation in the production environment. Prior to the development, it was necessary to familiarize myself with the .NET platform and compare the frameworks for web development. The bachelor thesis presents the suitability of individual frameworks for different types of applications. Based on the .NET analysis, DotVVM framework was chosen to implement the conference information system. The development of application logic proceeded with the test-driven development method. Combining appropriate frameworks, technologies, and approaches has lead to effective development with the successful creation of a secure and fast web application. ▼ Cloud Computing is a term heavily used in today's world. Not even a day passes by without hearing the words "Cloud Computing". It has become an increasingly important part of every person's life. However, it is still largely an unknown entity to the majority of people. Learning about what it is and how it works would be very beneficial to all who use it. My goal for this study is to take an architectural perspective towards the implementation of Cloud Computing. On a high level, there are different kinds of cloud service available, and it needs a cloud client in order to access those services. Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) is a cloud delivery model, which is used to deliver the software application as a service over the Web. It eliminates the need to deploy or execute the application on the user's own machines. Since an application vendor is responsible for the maintenance and support of the application in the S a a S model, it allows the user to focus on using the application. Platform-as-a-Service (PaaS) is a cloud delivery model, which delivers a platform and a solution stack as a service to allow its users to develop and deploy the application, just by using the PaaS solution. It allows users to focus on the development and deployment aspect of the application and relieves them from the complexity of buying and managing the computing resources [48]. Infrastructure-as-a-Service (IaaS) is a delivery model that delivers computing infrastructure such as virtualized datacenters as a service. In this model, it provides users a hardware/software layer with computing resources, operating systems in the form of virtualized infrastructure. A careful examination of different Cloud Computing offerings and their providers can suggest alternatives about the advantages and disadvantages of their services. This study analyzes various Cloud Computing services and their providers in order to enlighten users about choices that can be made in moving their application to the cloud or moving to the cloud in general.

▼ Cloud computing has been given a great deal of attention during recent years. Almost all the technology market leaders and leading hosting service providers (like IBM, Microsoft and Verizon) have entered into the Cloud market as Cloud Providers. Cloud computing promises to provide highly available, secure, low cost, agile and highly scalable solution to the consumers. Scania is a global company and one of the world’s leading heavy vehicle manufacturers with 35,000+ employees. All the large organizations such as Scania, aim to constantly update themselves with the latest technology in order to meet their business requirements but, these organizations must always be convinced that there is a strong reason(s) to implement new technology. This research provides the method and criteria in relation to initiating Cloud computing. A number of Scania’s specific business requirements that it is possible to map to the Cloud are addressed in this thesis. The methodology of research is split in two parts. Firstly, the identification of business cases at Scania and their requirements with the Cloud and Secondly, the evaluation and comparison of the functionalities and capabilities of different vendors. The accumulated data is then compared and suitable vendors, according to those business requirements are suggested. This thesis also shares the experience of moving on premise applications to the Cloud. These are Scania specific applications which are currently being hosted in-house. The research also addresses the possibilities of portability between the Cloud providers. Although there is no standardization in relation to Cloud computing, some initiatives such as OpenStack are available and its current position and some application and data migration tools are also discussed. The thesis concludes with a general discussion, recommendations in relation to adapting Cloud computing and selecting the Cloud provider. This recommendation applies to every organization including Scania.
