1. Chinellato, Lucrezia. : Conquered spontaneity in Luigi Meneghello's work. The way of plurilingualism.

The main focus in this thesis is Luigi Meneghello’s litterary works, which are substantially influenced by plurilingualism: Libera nos a malo, Pomo pèro, Maredè, maredè…, Dispatrio and Trapianti. Its principal objective is to reveal the foregoing stylistic work on Meneghello’s plurilingual prose, which is characterised by an apparent spontaneity. The first part of this essay discusses the author’s thinking about using different languages in the literary text. These languages are related to his biographical experience: his birth village dialect (his native language) and English language, of his adopted country. The second part of this essay aims to identify and analyse stylistic processes used by the author to create a plurilingual text’s polysemic dimension. Moreover this investigation explores especially the field of metalinguistic observation of the native local language and the practice of literary translation from English, which is conceived as a real field of exchange and mutual enrichment between languages ant literary works.

2. Fransson, Linnea.

Degree: Mathematics Education, 2013, Linnaeus University

Symbols have always been an important part of mathematics, which is why learning thesymbolic language is necessary in order to acquire a full understanding of the subject. This study aims to investigate the use of the symbolic language in the Swedish uppersecondary school from a linguistic perspective. The data for this study consists of samplesfrom 52 student solutions from a mathematical test, together with one transcribed groupinterview, where two students participated. The analysis is based on theories about themetalinguistic awareness and symbols’ semiotic and epistemological functions. The roleof the mathematical symbolic language described in the steering documents has also beenconsidered in the study. From the mistakes made in the test, it was possible to visualisethe importance of the metalinguistic awareness and the semiotic mediation in algebralearning. In the end, it also became clear that the mathematical symbolic language needsa more explicit role in the Swedish mathematics education.
