▼ Social Media (SM) applications allow users to communicate with various types of information about goods and services in the form of electronic word of mouth (eWOM). Applications such as Facebook, Twitter, Google and YouTube are currently ranked as the most accessed and adopted websites in the world that provide eWOM communication. Most importantly, these SM applications may have a significant impact on the opinions and attitudes of users with regard to the product information being shared. The aim of this research is to examine how different combinations of interactive attributes and features of eWOM being shared over SM applications effect consumers' attitudes and behaviours of intangible services in the healthcare industry. Relevant attributes derived from the literature, which include source credibility, trustworthiness and argument quality within SM eWOM messages are explored. These are examined in line with factors of Electronic Window Dressing (EWD) features, such as SM capabilities of simultaneous video, picture and web link sharing within the SM environment. This determines what types of different characteristics of eWOM alone or in combination with multimedia communications, can positively or negatively influence consumer's attitude that can have an effect on actual behaviour. A conceptual framework is augmented and developed based on existing theories in relation to persuasion and attitude change. The Elaboration Likelihood Model (ELM) and the Theory of Reasoned Action (TRA) models are combined and adapted as a foundation of a new conceptual approach, noted as 'Social Media Communications Model' (SMCM), with additional components specifically related to SM communications in an attempt to form a predictive explanation of consumers' attitudes. The research is designed as a comparative study by adopting an inductive interpretivist approach. A Qualitative method is used in the data collection process by performing in-depth interviews with 34 senior level managers with regard to SM communications in healthcare industry from both the United Kingdom and the United States. All of the primary data was transcribed, coded and thematically analysed. The key findings revealed the most preferred SM platforms used in the UK and US, how source credibly, expertise and trustworthiness are effective, and why videos, pictures and the timing of post were significant in changing consumer attitude. Practically, the research provides businesses and organisation in similar service goods industries with a SM model that explains how to create successful marketing campaigns. The research likewise contributes theoretically by identifying the relationships of important constructs relevant to SM communications from a qualitative perspective, forming a new extended theoretical framework that can be a predicator of consumer behaviour. The research further provides a better understanding towards the key factors of eWOM in SM that influence consumers to think and behave in certain ways, additionally contributing to the existing SM marketing…

▼ Living with lupus in Kenya: views of individuals
with lupus and their doctors Lupus is a complex, poorly understood
long-term disease in which the body's immune system mistakenly
attacks healthy tissues of any part of the body. The disease mainly
affects young women of childbearing age. Studies from developed
countries show that the condition affects individuals physically,
emotionally and socially. However, nothing is known about how
having lupus has affected individuals living with the condition in
the African continent. I explored how lupus had affected
individuals living with the condition in Kenya from the time
individuals began to feel unwell. I interviewed three groups of
participants. 10 individuals who attended the public rheumatology
clinic, 11 individuals who attended a private rheumatology clinic
and 6 doctors who worked in the rheumatology clinics. The study
found that some individuals delayed in getting medical help for
their lupus. It appears to take a long time for individuals to get
their lupus diagnosed due to organisation and staffing of the
Kenyan health system. It was also perceived by individuals with
lupus that treatment for the condition was difficult to access and
it was also costly. Some individuals believed that their lupus had
a supernatural cause. Often there appeared to be a lack of
understanding of lupus by individuals who suffered from the
condition; and also by others, some having experienced disapproval
or negative feelings from others. Individuals with lupus reported
lacking the financial resources and social support to manage their
condition better. Lupus was affecting them physically, emotionally
and had an impact on their social lives. There are a number of
challenges in living with lupus in Kenya, including individuals'
and others perception of the condition, but also how healthcare is
provided to these individuals.

▼ Research Doctorate - Doctor of Philosophy (PhD)
The concept of a workplace Return to Work Coordinator (RTWC) stems from significant reforms to the Australian workers’ compensation legislation in the mid-1980s, which highlighted the need for the rehabilitation of injured workers to occur at the workplace. Since its inception, the role of the workplace RTWC has continued to evolve, and contemporarily, the role has been recognised as critical in the facilitation of injured workers returning to pre-injury work duties. The overall aim of the thesis is to identify the attributes and skills required to effectively perform the role of a workplace RTWC, and ascertain if the current training programs adequately prepare RTWCs in assisting an injured worker to return to work. Moreover, the thesis also explores their relationship with the injured worker and the General Practitioner (GP), and whether there are any associated barriers that may negatively impact on the injured worker. Three research studies and one literature review were undertaken to meet this aim. In the first study, focus groups were conducted with contemporary workplace RTWCs to ascertain their views of the traits and characteristics required to perform the role successfully, and in addition highlight any deficiencies that may exist within current training practices from their perspective. In the second study, semi-structured interviews were conducted with injured workers, and in the third study a cross-sectional survey was undertaken of GPs, with both studies designed to gain insights into the relationships between these key stakeholders and the workplace RTWC. In particular, insights were sought from these stakeholders regarding the necessary traits and adequacy of training of RTWCs. This thesis and its constituent studies revealed contemporary workplace RTWCs need to possess specific traits and characteristics such as compassion, empathy and patience to successfully perform the role, with an emphasis on identifying these traits during the selection process of workplace RTWCs. The findings also revealed that a review of current training practices is required if workplace RTWCs are to be supported appropriately to facilitate a successful return to work for an injured worker. In turn, this will likely assist with the reduction of workplace disability and workers’ compensation costs. The findings of this thesis should be of significant interest to regulators and policy makers, and have important implications for future research in the specific area of workplace rehabilitation.

▼ The purpose of this study was to understand older adults’ transformative learning through bereavement in late life. A qualitative research approach was implemented including purposive sampling and in-depth, semi-structured interviews with
nine bereaved older adults. Four research questions guided this study: (1) What do older adults specify as being transformed within them as a consequence of late life bereavement? (2) How does transformative learning impact older adults’ ongoing lives?
(3) How do older adults describe the process of transformation? (4) What late life factors shape the transformative learning process? Analysis of the data was completed via the constant comparative method. This study found that bereaved older adults
experienced transformation toward a greater consciousness of death issues as evidenced by responding to death issues with less dread, poignant awareness of personal mortality and the afterlife, and sensitization to the preciousness of life. Their
transformation also included a reprioritization of goals and activities as evidenced by changes in life activities, and re-evaluation of intra-/inter-personal relationships as evidenced by altered interactional behaviors. Concerning the process of
transformation were found the significant components of acute distress, reflection, emerging sense of change in perspectives, and new behaviors. Finally, participants revealed that an accumulation of relevant learning from earlier life experiences and
the late life-cycle issues of a dwindling social network and proximity to personal mortality helped to shape transformative learning. Three conclusions were drawn from this study. First, perspective transformation can occur in late life bereavement.
Second, transformative learning is a fluid and oscillatory process. Third, transformative learning is shaped by biographical and life stage developmental contexts. Practical implications and recommendations for future research are provided.

▼ This study can be described as a journey into the
discourse of ‘sangomahood’. It focuses on the narrative of a female
sangoma in South Africa and how she experiences her ‘sangomahood’
and gives meaning to it in her specific cultural context. By
qualitatively exploring her narrative an attempt was made to
understand and illuminate the experiences informing her
‘sangomahood’. This journey starts with an introduction to the two
discourses of health namely the dominant, scientific discourse of
Western medicine and the alternative discourse of traditional
healing. In this part of the journey the historical,
anthropological and sociological perspectives on medicine are
discussed, as well as the different views of Western medicine and
traditional healing pertaining to healers, practices, illness and
patients. The methodology and context of the
research are then
explained. Narrative analysis is used to explore the themes in the
sangoma’s narration. The sangoma’s narrative is then introduced by
means of five letters that I, as the researcher, write to her. In
these letters I also reflect on the difference between her
experience and mine, as well as the impact of her narrative on me
as a psychologist trained in the Western
perspective. This journey
was undertaken to create a greater understanding of the culture and
experience of ‘sangomahood’. This
research also intends to make
psychologists aware that the telling of a narrative is never a
neutral process and that their clients’ stories always have a
certain impact on them, as listeners. Each individual experience is
shaped through time, by a specific cultural context which becomes
the lens through which people experience and shape the
world.

The purpose of this study is to explore the need for individual training of restaurant MUMs in order to facilitate a smoother transition between executive level management positions. The exhaustive literature review aided in the creation of three
research questions to be answered through the interpretation of collected interview data. Restaurant MUMs were invited to participate via LinkedIn, a social media network for professionals. Semi-structured interviews were conducted with 17 restaurant MUMs over a two-week period and then transcribed into Word documents and uploaded into ATLAS.ti for analysis. The use of tools within ATLAS.ti, such as network mapping and semantic layouts, allowed the researcher to interpret the correlation between codes and themes created and therefore, answer the
research questions. Conventionally, managers have to leave their restaurants or area for many days in order to obtain the necessary training to be more effective in their positions. This study has concluded that while MUMs are aware of their tasks and responsibilities, they are not aware of training available in order to gain the skillset necessary to complete the tasks. Blanket training programs will not work for MUMs, they need training to be customized to such areas as new openings, wide-spread markets and the changing workforce. More courses in developing others need to be implemented so MUMs can learn the skills needed to properly develop their managers into leaders.

– – - ABSTRACT – – Objective: Understanding the change process in body psychotherapy, from the patient’s perspective.
Research Question: “What kind of significant events promotes clinical change in body psychotherapy?”
Methodology: Qualitative process research.
Data collection: Phenomenological interview.
Data analysis: Phenomenological-psychological method, by Amedeo Giorgi.
Participants: Four subjects (two women and two men), aged between 26 and 48 years old, whom were in body psychotherapy two years or more.
Results: The data revealed what kind of significant events promotes clinical change in body psychotherapy and yet, what is the nature of this change.
The quality of the therapeutic relationship, the symbolic and revealing episodes, the psychophysical experiences and the perception of the psychotherapy as an evolutionary and cumulative process are the propulsive factors of change, which is expressed by increased self understanding and self overcoming, by strengthening personal identity, among other subjective benefits that reveal the efficiency of this therapeutic modality.
Conclusion: The qualitative research and particularly the process research are scarce in body psychotherapy. This study provides thus important contributions to the improvement of empirical evidence in this field of intervention, identifying mechanisms involved in the patient change and approaching the theory to the clinical practice.

▼ The purpose of this study was to explore the strategising practices of chartered accountants (CAs) in the South African mining industry. Few studies have dealt with the practical skills CAs employ when they engage in strategising practices and, in particular, a gap could be identified on how CAs engage with strategy tools during strategising. Approximately two thirds of all directors in South Africa are CAs and only 11% of directors who are CAs also hold master‟s degrees in business administration. The question then arises of how do CAs engage with strategy tools during strategising? This study applied key concepts of social practice theory to explore the strategising practices of CAs from a strategy-as-practice
perspective. The strategy-as-practice
perspective entails studying strategy practitioners within their social constructs. The context of this study was the South African mining industry, a landscape seen as an essential part of the South African economy. An exploratory
qualitative research design was applied whereby one-on-one interchanges during individual interviews provided rich, detailed descriptions of how CA strategists use strategy tools when they engage in strategising practices. The social nature of the practices and praxis of strategy practitioners from a strategy-as-practice
perspective constantly changes. As such, the current study was conducted from a constructivist paradigm to describe the narrative reality of the strategy practitioners as they engage with strategy tools. The findings of the study portrayed participants as bricoleurs of strategy tools, i.e. craftspeople who adapted and interpreted strategy tools from an accounting
perspective to serve the requirements of the situation they face.

▼ This study shares themes identified across the experiences of mothers of children cochlear implant users with speech-language pathologists. Parents describe learning that their child has a hearing loss as an overwhelming journey with much to learn and many decisions to make, especially in their child’s first year of life. Parents rely on professional support in developing their child’s listening and spoken language development. A phenomenological framework of
qualitative research was utilized to understand the
perspective of the mothers who participated in this study. The intent of this study is to improve the partnership between parents and professionals of children with hearing loss working towards an outcome of spoken language, by better understanding the
perspective of parents of this unique population.

▼ Background: Telemonitoring (also termed telehealth,
telecare, ehealth etc.) is promoted as a way to reduce healthcare
costs and promote self-management in long term conditions such as
COPD.
Research suggests telemonitoring may be useful in COPD
management, but barriers remain to its uptake and sustained use.
Research has often been limited to testing technologies at a late
stage and potential users’ perspectives are not often considered.
Aims/objectives: 1. Explore the barriers to using telehealth
technologies from a user and potential user
perspective: people
with COPD (pwCOPD), their informal carers and health professionals
(HPs). 2. Understand the challenges of living with and managing
COPD to identify how telehealth models should be designed/existing
models refined to better meet the needs of (potential) users.
Methods: Multiple
qualitative methods were used. This included a
meta-synthesis of published papers that investigated users’
experience of telehealth in COPD; semi-structured interviews and
focus groups with HPs; focus groups and longitudinal interviews
with pwCOPD and their informal carers. User involvement consisted
of an advisory group (pwCOPD and HPs) that helped guide the
research. Transcripts were analysed using a broadly thematic
approach. Findings: Meta-synthesis: Findings indicate contradicting
consequences of telehealth use. 1. It influenced moral dilemma of
help seeking (increased dependency or improved self-care
practices). 2. It transformed interactions (increased risk or
reassured). 3. It reconfigured work practices (burdened or
empowered). HP data: presented three overarching themes: 1.
Telehealth was often implemented within a technology centred
approach which failed to engage clinicians and did not result in
efficiency savings. Recognised that telehealth implementation
needed to focus on patient need before technology. 2.
Organisational pressures and professional roles impact upon HPs’
perception of telehealth. Telehealth undermined holistic care and
threatened professionals’ identity if it focused reductively on
biometric monitoring. 3. Telehealth was not considered useful in
‘complex’ patients with high needs and considered more suitable
in patients with fewer needs. Identified a need to tailor
telehealth to patients’ needs which was consistent with
professional values of providing holistic support. PwCOPD and their
informal carers’ data: presented three overarching themes. 1. It
identified how pwCOPD and their carers lived and responded to
unpredictable illness trajectories and highlighted the work they
did to manage illness at home. Identified reasons why they failed
to seek timely help at times of acute illness: these were numerous
and involved experiences of illness trajectory and healthcare. 2.
PwCOPD and their carers carried out technical work for routine
monitoring and at times of acute illness. Some did not consider
technical work to be their responsibility. 3. People with mild
illness expressed no felt need for telehealth and considered it a
threat to their…

▼ South Africa has among the highest burden of HIV
infections in the world.
Research has shown that outreach efforts,
such as community mobilization, play an important role in
mitigating the incidence of HIV infection within South Africa
through efforts in altering social norms and creating community
dialogue among those who may not be HIV positive, but at risk.
Sonke Gender Justice and Movement for Change and Social Justice,
both grassroots organizations in Cape Town, South Africa have a
main purpose of addressing HIV and AIDS, gender inequality, and
human rights. Within the organizations, there are community health
workers who work closely with men and women in Cape Town
communities in addressing the need to mobilize people at high risk
for HIV. These community mobilizers join together to take action
within their communities, addressing issues such as gender
inequality, sexual and reproductive health, and human rights.
Through 16 semi-structured
qualitative interviews with community
mobilization workers, working with Sonke Gender Justice or MCSJ, we
gathered data on perceptions of community mobilization and the work
they do. We found three main themes that emerged from the
participants’ responses. Participants displayed motivating factors
such as feelings of support from their families and communities,
personal recruitment as a motivator to join their organization,
engaging and informing their communities as a motivation to
perform, the murder of a community member to unify the community,
and feelings of pride and leadership associated with their work as
community mobilizers. Perceptions of the community mobilization
workers included their perceptions of youth community members, a
change in perception associated with engaging in community
mobilization, negative perceptions of HIV/AIDS throughout the
community, presence of gender inequalities in the community, and
positive perceptions of their community mobilization organization.
Health literacy among the community was mentioned by participants,
and well as displaying how they are able to inform and educate
their community. This study runs parallel to the i-ALARM project, a
five-year, NIH funded study that aims to increase male adherence to
HIV care in South Africa.

▼ Objectives: To determine how people who use drugs
(PWUD) perceive and utilize overdose prevention material, and to
evaluate action-based, plain language content on Rhode Island’s
overdose surveillance and information dashboard,
www.PreventOverdoseRI.org. Methods: We conducted 21 semi-structured
qualitative interviews with PWUD from February-June 2017 in the
state of Rhode Island. Data were audio-recorded, transcribed, coded
in NVivo (Version 11), and key themes were developed. Results:
Participants viewed online health promotion and harm reduction
materials as a useful approach for overdose prevention. Information
displayed as accessible, action-driven statements was seen as most
desirable for learning and dissemination. After viewing overdose
prevention material, participants reported feeling better prepared
for responding to an accidental overdose and motivated to share the
infographics and website to other people either at risk for or
likely to witness an overdose. Conclusions: Action-focused, plain
language approaches for overdose prevention materials can be
effective and of particular use for public health campaigns
addressing the United States opioid crisis. Overdose prevention
health campaigns should incorporate evidence-based testing to
ensure that outreach material is grounded in plain language
techniques.

▼ Paths to Specialty Selection: A Lens on Women
Physicians Abstract Background: Women now comprise more than half
of medical school classes in the US. However, women are
underrepresented in some areas of medicine and overrepresented in
others. Additionally, women are more likely to practice part-time
than are men. Past
research is lacking on the reasons, motivations,
insights, and opinions behind specialty selection and how women in
medicine practice. Using rigorous
qualitative methodology, our
study seeks to develop a richer understanding and insight regarding
the decision-making process of women in choosing their specialties
of medical practice. Methods: Semi-structured interviews were
conducted with 30 board-certified physicians. A post-interview
questionnaire was administered. Results: Five major themes with
subthemes were identified in analysis of the transcripts. First,
female physicians note that having an interest and passion for a
specialty is crucial for selection. Second, having personal
experiences with a specialty helps guide selection. Third,
‘work-life’ balance is a critical consideration in selecting a
specialty. Fourth, some areas of specialty are viewed as more
welcoming to women than others. Lastly, women note differences in
how their male counterparts may choose their areas of medical
practices. Conclusions: Specialty selection is a multi-dimensional
decision. Appropriate support and guidance from medical
institutions is crucial in order to diversify representation of
women in all specialties. Our findings, based on reports from
respondents, appear to be systemic, national, and not localized to
one specialty, age group, or geographic location. Medical Practice
and Leadership: Experiences of Women Physicians Abstract Purpose:
Past
research has named numerous gender-specific challenges for
women in medicine. This includes challenges for women aspiring to,
and maintaining, medical leadership positions. However, this
research has been largely quantitative. Using
qualitative
methodology, our study aims to further understand the experiences
and challenges facing women in medical careers, as well as the
impact of these experiences on academic leadership aspirations.
This information can inform recommendations to support women in
professional practice and medical leadership. Method:
Semi-structured interviews were conducted nationally with 30
board-certified physicians. A post-interview questionnaire was
administered. Interviews were audio-recorded, de-identified,
transcribed, and entered into NVIVO software to aid in analysis.
Codes were applied in accordance with modified grounded theory to
identify cross cutting themes. An audit trail was kept. Results:
Six major themes with subthemes were identified in analysis of the
transcripts. First, female physicians note microagressions and
discrimination in professional practice. Second, female gender may
impact how patients interact with physicians. Third, lack of
advancement into leadership positions is a key concern. Fourth,

▼ This thesis aims to identify success factors for a potential Hungarian restaurant in the Republic of Azerbaijan. The study evaluates what opportunities lay in the Azerbaijani catering market as well as how a potential new foreign restaurant could be developed to achieve success in the country.
Chapter 1 on this paper focuses on market
research from a theoretical
perspective. Its definition, characteris-tics and processes are introduced to understand how to carry out a successful market study. In Chapter 2, the theoretical basis of restaurant development is discussed, identifying the key areas and concepts new restaurant start-ups need to be aware of to assure success. Chapter 3 presents the results of the Azerbaijani catering industry dynamics, showcases underlying opportunities for restaurant start-ups, and evaluates in what ways the potential restaurant could be developed to establish itself successfully in Azerbaijan. Lastly, Chapter 4 provides conclusions and recommendations in case an actual project of opening a Hungarian restaurant in Azerbaijan were to be carried out.
The
research method utilized in this study is
qualitative interviewing of area experts, and secondary
research for quantitative market data. Based on the results and observations, it can be concluded that there are opportunities for a potential Hungarian restaurant in the Azerbaijani catering market. They can succeed by developing a high-quality, traditionally conceptualized restaurant in the center of Baku, the capital of the country.

▼ This narrative inquiry study examines the stories told by seven adult students about learning cognitive therapy and how they experienced being both the
subject and the writer of their own case study. At the time of being interviewed, some were completing a Bachelor of Counselling or Alcohol and Drug Studies, while others had completed their counsellor training and had employment in their profession. The students completing the Alcohol and Drug Studies are also trainee counsellors with a particular specialisation. All students completed a ten day, introductory course in Cognitive Therapy. There has been limited
research exploring the learning experiences of students on cognitive therapy training. There does not appear to be any
research on either the use of self case study in Cognitive Therapy education or the student experience of self case study. The purpose of this study was twofold: firstly, to explore the students’ perspectives on what it was like to learn cognitive therapy and secondly, to explore the students’ experiences of completing a case study on themselves. In this study, narrative interviews were used to invite participants to tell their story. The interviews were audio taped and transcribed. The participants’ in depth stories when analysed, produced clear thematic content as well as unique accounts of personal learning journeys. Analysis involved rewriting each interview as a core narrative, structured to show each participant’s position when they began learning, the essence of the story line, their unique voice, the plot direction, the story’s climax, including the impact on their identity and finally, their core message. These narratives are represented by six short pieces of prose and a poem. The narrators and cognitive therapy are central characters in all stories. Thematic content was depicted as steps in a learning process. All core narratives were sent to each participant for checking that it captured their original story and its meaning. The findings were that adult counselling students found brief introductory training courses in Cognitive Therapy to be very effective for enabling them to learn the cognitive therapy model, to refine their cognitive therapy skills and to enhance their own personal development. Self case study has the potential to provide a complex, multi-dimensional learning opportunity facilitating deep learning. Self case study can result in transformative learning and the development of new stories of identity for the writer (and
subject) of the case study. Individual student accounts suggest that Cognitive Therapy can be usefully adapted for some Maori and self case study can be a means of strengthening cultural identity. In addition, for some counselling student trainees, the process of doing a self case study may provide a means of working through childhood trauma. The findings provide some preliminary support for including use of self case study within the counselling curriculum. Self case study can provide opportunities for deepening learning about theory and practice,…

▼ Background: To date, academic and clinical conceptualizations of autism have been built on
research that reflects the perspectives of researchers and scholars, to the exclusion of the perspectives of autistic insiders. Objectives: To build deeper understanding of autism, especially its associated characteristics and behaviours, by examining the perspectives of people who identify as autistic.
Research Process: Adopting a descriptive
qualitative approach, I conducted three sequential studies. In the first study, I used inductive thematic analysis of memoirs for an early exploration of insider perspectives and identification of phenomena of interest. Through this, I identified experiences of being misjudged and embodied autism as primary phenomena of interest. In the second study, I used directed content analysis of blogs to pursue a deepened understanding of embodied autism. In the third study, I used the dataset from Study2 and applied inductive thematic analysis to the blog content to more closely examine insider framings of autism. Results: The informants in this
research conceptualize autism and explain its characteristic behaviours in ways that are fundamentally different from the dominant framing of autism. When explaining their autistic behaviours and functional challenges, the informants highlight embodied issues such as difficulty controlling movements and maintaining an adaptive level of arousal. The informants frequently experience being misjudged and misunderstood and express desire for a shift in the dominant framing of autism to better match their perspectives and needs as autistic insiders. Conclusions: Together these studies offer an insider-informed framing of autism that is more embodied, intelligent, empathic, and positive than depictions of autism in dominant literature. This
research highlights the feasibility of insider-informed autism
research and its potential to enrich autism science and service.

CBT is beneficial for many individuals, yet it is common to ‘relapse’ and there are a significant number of individuals for whom it is unhelpful. Although research can evidence its effectiveness, decades of studies have yet to find clarity on the change mechanisms, the central tenet of therapy. Researchers propose that understanding how therapy works is a complex multifactorial process that has perhaps been skewed by a dominant quantitative approach. As the site of change and largest contributing variable of change, clients’ viewpoint is considered critical to the success of therapy. However, clients' perspective of how therapy works is limited and conflicting within the literature. Aims: To gain clients’ perspectives by exploring their understanding of how change occurs in therapy, as well as exploring how clients define change in therapy. Method: Drawing on a critical realist approach, this study utilised qualitative methods. Ten self-selecting participants who experienced positive change through CBT in NHS secondary care services partook in semi-structured interviews. Interview transcripts were analysed using Thematic Analysis. Results: Three main themes were identified from participants accounts: ‘Change as changeable’, ‘External help’ and ‘It’s not magic’. Conclusions: Findings highlighted the nonlinear, dynamic, complex and individualised process of change in therapy. A working definition of participants’ understanding of change has been offered, which can be utilised in research, policy and practice. Participants emphasised common factors of change. A Perceptual Control Theory framework was considered as one possible explanation of participants’ experiences as it was able to account for descriptions of change more than other theories. Implications of the study and further research ideas have been presented.

▼ The aim of the study was to describe and analyze the perception of school community and
deaf students towards inclusive education in Afeteysa primary and secondary school of Dire
Dawa. In order to achieve the purpose of the study, basic
research questions were raised.
Qualitative research design was employed so as to understand the situation in the setting.
Purposive sampling procedures were also used. To get the required information from the
participants about the
research the participants of the study were comprised of six deaf
students from grade seven to ten (7-10), and there were five males and one female. Four of
them were profoundly pre-lingual deaf, and two were profoundly post-lingual deaf.
Moreover, key- informants such as 7 SNE Teachers, 2 principals as well as the School
counselor were also involved. The data obtained were analyzed through descriptive method.
The method that the researcher was used was also interview, observation and FGD. The
following major findings were obtained. Those are 1) all of the participants of teachers,
principals and students with hearing impairments perceive inclusive education positively. 2)
Inclusive education has both academic and social benefits for all students and has an
opportunity to develop communication and social interaction. 3) There was limited
understanding, lack of commitment and willingness on the side of the school director. 4) The
Deaf children have developed their confidence in their participation, social interaction with
their hearing peers, they can also be active participants in their academics. The study
concludes that there was a need to foster more positive attitudes among the school
community the inclusive education is to be implemented.

▼ Background: Paediatric pharmacovigilance is a recognised priority due to the vulnerability of children to adverse drug reactions (ADRs). The UK Yellow Card Scheme is central to pharmacovigilance, but other complementary methods have been suggested. The introduction of the community health index (CHI) in all NHS contacts in Scotland provides opportunities to link prescribing and health utilization data and thereby identify new ADR signals. The views of healthcare professionals (HCPs) on the linkage of NHS data for pharmacovigilance purposes in children have not been explored: the aim of this research was to explore the acceptability of linking routinely collected healthcare data to inform the design of a new system for pharmacovigilance in children. Methods: A mixed methods study was conducted involving interviews, focus-groups and a threeround Delphi survey with HCPs in Scotland. The survey was structured using the Theoretical Domains Framework of behaviour change. Results were triangulated. Ethical approval was granted by the North of Scotland Research Ethics Service. Results Interviews (n=23) identified issues with security, anonymisation and legal challenges that should be addressed prior to implementation. Focus-group participants (n=22, 6 groups) additionally identified potential issues with the feasibility of the planned data linkage and latent liability issues from dissemination of findings. The Delphi survey initially covered the issues identified in the preceding work. Retained items after three rounds focused on professional standards, requirements for linkage and the use and format of feedback. The proposed data linkage was perceived as positive and necessary, with participants in all three studies highlighting the benefits for research and for patients. Conclusion: The development of a paediatric linked database has support from professional stakeholders and HCPs in Scotland. The proposed data linkage was perceived to meet a service need. No insurmountable issues were identified, but key issues should be addressed prior to implementation.

Fyra förstagångsgravida inkluderades i fokusgruppen.
Background: In Sweden it is common with delivery damage to the pelvic floor especially for primiparous women. It variates throughout the country when it comes to risk in percentage of severe damage, grade 3-4. Such impairments can lead to suffering in both short term but also long term perspective as pain, sexual dysfunction, decreased quality of life, mental disorder and incontinence. The aim with this master first year thesis was to explore and describe primapara ́s perspective on delivery impairments on the pelvic floor during vaginal child birth. Also to seek understanding of their thoughts regarding physiotherapy in obstetric healthcare and how a physiotherapists knowledge and skills could be helpful in preventing delivery damage and further how the occupation could fit their ideas and wishes in the field. Method: With a qualitative approach data were collected through a focus group interview via Skype video-conference. Result: Four primaparas were conducted through Facebook recruitment and included in the focus group interview. The main theme that appeared through data analyses were; Credence in Swedish obstetric health care despite new experiences and lack of information. Through analysis five subcategories…

▼ Approximately one-third of clients that therapists
label 'premature terminators' will, if asked, say that they were no
longer in need of services when they ended therapy. While the
current literature assumes that this disjoint in opinion is due to
therapist miscalculation of therapy outcome, this study explored an
alternative model based on a divergence of perspectives between
therapists and clients. Three former psychotherapy clients (who
indicated that they were no longer in need of services) and their
therapists (who indicated that their clients were still in need of
services) participated in interviews during which they described
the problems they were working on in therapy, the process of
termination, and their views on therapy in general. The results
suggested that therapist-client differences in problem
conceptualization and therapy values contributed to divergent
perspectives on the appropriateness of termination. A final section
of this paper includes a discussion of the implications of these
results for psychotherapy practice and
research.

The role of the practice manager in general practice- based research.

▼ Research in the general practice setting is essential to ensure the clinical care provided is effective and evidence-based. To facilitate general practice-based research, studies must be designed in ways that accommodate practice routine. Furthermore, intervention studies need to be managed at the practice level to ensure uptake and implementation. The practice manager is central to the administration and oversight of general practice organisation and routine. However, there is a paucity of research evidence about this role, and no current literature on practice managers’ contributions to research intervention trial facilitation and implementation in the general practice setting. This study investigated the practice manager’s role in facilitating the implementation of an intervention as part of a clinical trial in Australian general practice.
This research was a sub-study of the Australian Chlamydia Control Effectiveness Pilot (ACCEPt). ACCEPt was a randomised controlled trial that measured whether a multifaceted intervention designed to increase annual chlamydia testing reduced the transmission and associated complications of chlamydia among 16 – 29 year-old general practice attendees. Using a qualitative thematic methodology, 23 semi-structured interviews were conducted with practice managers during the ACCEPt intervention phase. “The practice managers' role in facilitating and implementing the ACCEPt intervention was explored, along with the barriers and enablers to the conduct of general practice-based research.”
The findings of this study suggest practice managers are key to establishing, facilitating and managing research interventions at the general practice level. The participating practice managers described their central positions within the structure of the organisation as pivotal to directly liaising with GPs on research matters, delegating tasks and maintaining the profile of research in general practices. Managers had the capacity to embed non-clinical tasks into their current workloads, which they saw as crucial to sustaining trials and limiting the impact of research on practice routine.
New perspectives from practice managers suggest the main enabler to research uptake and sustainability in the practice is the practice manager’s involvement. They reported daily routine and the rigid scheduling of GPs’ appointment times as the main barrier.
This is the first Australian study of the role of the practice manager in facilitating intervention studies in general practice. While this study fills a gap in the literature about practice managers and their contribution to general practice-based research uptake, it also highlights the need for further examination of this role, specifically a broader systematic investigation of practice managers’ contribution to managing intervention studies at the practice level. Furthermore, exploration of the training needs of practice managers is required to identify education that would maximise their potential to contribute to research.

▼ Complex health systems make it difficult to ensure
a continuity of care for older persons with multi-morbidity, and
risk fragmented care. Fragmented care could affect the quality and
safety of the care provided. Case management could provide an
approach to counteract this unfavourable situation. Case management
is practised by case managers and aims to improve the coordination
of healthcare and social services. To better understand and to
advance the progress of case management, there is a need for
knowledge that provides rich descriptions of case management in
practice. This knowledge must come from different perspectives
important for the intervention. Thus, the overall aim of this
thesis was to explore the experiences of a case management
intervention aimed at older persons with multi-morbidity, from the
perspectives of case managers, older persons, family members and
health and social care staff members. The work of this thesis is
based on an ethnographic approach and explores case management from
multiple perspectives. For Study I, the sample consisted of case
managers (n=9). Data were collected by a group interview,
individual interviews and participant observations. Data analysis
was informal and formal, and comprised a thematic analysis of the
interview material. For Study II, the sample consisted of family
members of older persons with multi-morbidity (n=16). Data were
collected by individual interviews and analysed using interpretive
phenomenology. For Study III, the sample consisted of older persons
(75+) with multi-morbidity (n=13). Individual interviews and
participant observations were part of the data collection. Data
analysis was influenced by Roper and Shapira’s framework for
ethnographic analysis. For Study IV the sample consisted of health
and social care staff members (n=10). Individual interviews were
conducted and subsequently analysed using thematic analysis. The
findings from all studies (I-IV) illustrated different perspectives
of a case management intervention, conducted by case managers. In
Study I, the case managers’ experiences of their everyday work
could be interpreted as challenging current professional identity.
Study II showed that the family members’ experiences could be
interpreted as helps to fulfil my unmet needs. In Study III, the
older persons’ experiences were interpreted into four themes which
were someone providing me with a trusting relationship; someone
assisting me; someone who is on my side; and someone I do not need
at present. In Study IV, health and social care staff members’
experiences were interpreted into the following three themes: could
bridge gaps in an insufficient health system; emerging improvements
call for engagement; and an intervention in the mist with vague
goals and elements. In summary, the findings indicate that
establishing trusting relationships was important and this trust
enabled the case managers to conduct their everyday work.
Consequently, case management interventions need to put emphasis on
building trust between the case managers and the…

▼ Mental health courts (MHCs) are specialty courts designed to address the issue of criminalizing and incarcerating people who experience mental health issues or intellectual disabilities by providing health and social services rather than jail sentences. Such a court was opened in November 2013 in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada as a collaborative endeavor between the Saskatchewan Ministry of Justice (MOJ), and the Saskatoon Health Region (SHR; currently Saskatchewan Health Authority). This
qualitative master’s thesis is part of the Center for Forensic Behavioural Science and Justice Studies’ (CFBSJS) larger study entitled: Saskatoon Mental Health Strategy: Preliminary Evaluation of Client Outcomes project. Purpose of the Study: The purpose of this study was to incorporate the voices of those people who can speak with the most personal knowledge about the influence of the SMHSC process: the participants going through the SMHSC, and their closest supports. The findings illuminate what stood out from the participants’ experiences, and what impacts they perceived the SMHSC has had on their well-being.
Research Question: “What is the experience of participants and their support persons in the Saskatoon Mental Health Strategy court?” Methodology: An Interpretive Description (ID) approach was chosen for this
qualitative study design. Participants: Seventeen people were interviewed: 11 SMHSC participants and 6 support persons. Findings: Overall participant descriptions of the experience ranged from “the best thing that ever happened to me” to reportedly feeling “raped” by the process. The participants and their support persons communicated high levels of stress and anxiety related to the court legal process, exacerbated by personal histories of trauma. Parallels between the dynamics of abusive relationships and the court process were found in all narratives. Support persons expressed a heavy burden of responsibility paired with very little input, as illustrated by one person who stated, “they might as well be charging me”. Although the Indigenous population overall is overrepresented in the criminal justice system, they are underrepresented in the SMHSC. Recommendations: The incorporation of trauma informed practice and restorative justice principles in to this court process is recommended, which may include increasing the involvement of health care professionals in screening, assessment, and case management; including more education and resources; and making changes to the courtroom layout to improve communication between all parties. Limitations of the Study: A limitation common to all studies involving MHCs is their lack of generalizability, as each court’s design, composition of the interdisciplinary team involved in the court, and partnering services is highly variable. The people recruited to this study were those who were willing and able to speak about their experiences. They represent a small portion of the people who attended the SMHSC, and recruitment may have missed those who had different experiences not…

▼ The purpose of this
research was to enrich our
understanding of why large organisations have not performed in
low-income markets relative to middle- to high-income markets
through an understanding of their market orientation in these
markets. The
research sought to establish whether an organisation
can have more than one instance of market orientation in its chosen
markets. The literature asserts that the bottom-of-the-pyramid
approach to earning corporate profits has gained considerable
attention and has awakened managers to the potential of serving an
underserved market and alleviating the level of global poverty
while still earning a profit (Pitta et al. 2008). South African
companies have heeded the call to play a role and have targeted
low-income markets, but, disappointingly, have achieved limited
success. Contrary to the situation in relation to low-income
markets, South African firms serving middle- to high-income markets
have achieved market success through effective business models and
orientation towards their markets. The
qualitative study showed
that an organisation indeed can have more than one instance of
market orientation, as managers responsible for low-income markets
experience challenges across all market orientation activities,
relative to their middle- to high-income market
counterparts.
