▼ LTE-WLAN Aggregation (
LWA) splits a stream or streams in the Packet Data Convergence Protocol (PDCP) layer. In this thesis, LTE-WLAN Aggregation Dual-Mode (
LWA-DM) is implemented on an open-source platform - OpenAirInterface (OAI), and srsUE software is used in UE to reassemble packets in the PDCP layer. In the eNB of OAI platform, we implement two kinds of dual-mode stream transmission technologies and use video streaming to transmit. The first one is for a number of single streams, an entire stream is transmitted via LTE interface or via Wi-Fi interface. The second one is for a single stream, we split a single stream into two substreams, one substream over LTE and another substream over Wi-Fi interface. In these two technologies, PDCP layer interprets packetâs destination IP address to differentiate different streams. To transmit a stream from eNB to UE via the Wi-Fi interface, in PDCP layer, an UDP tunnel is built. In order to receive a stream from LTE and Wi-Fi interfaces at the same time, we must add a process thread at UE to receive packets over the Wi-Fi interface. In order to reassemble packets at the PDCP layer, we use two buffers to temporily store packets which came from the LTE interface and the Wi-Fi interface, respectively. After the implementation, we compare the throughput of eNB and UE, the load of eNB, and the average packet processing delay with and without
LWA-DM.

▼ Abstract
The focus of this thesis is to study direction of arrival (DoA) estimation algorithms for reconfigurable leaky-wave antennas and advanced antenna arrays. Directional antennas can greatly improve the spectrum reuse, interference avoidance, and object and people localization. DoA estimation algorithms have also been shown to be useful for applications such as positioning for user tracking and location-based services in wireless local area networks (WLANs).
The main goal is to develop novel DoA estimation algorithms for both advanced antenna arrays and composite right/left-handed (CRLH) leaky-wave antennas (LWAs). The thesis introduces novel modifications to existing DoA estimation algorithms and shows how these can be modified for real-time DoA estimation using both antenna types. Three modified DoA estimation algorithms for CRLH-LWAs are presented: 1) modified multiple signal classification (MUSIC), 2) power pattern cross-correlation (PPCC), and 3) adjacent power pattern ratio (APPR). Additionally, the APPR algorithm is also applied to advanced antenna arrays.
The thesis also presents improvements to the modified MUSIC and APPR algorithms. The complexity of the algorithms is reduced by selecting a smaller number of received signals from different directions. The results show that the selection of the radiation patterns is very important and that the proposed algorithms can successfully estimate the DoA, even in a real-world environment. Based on the results, this thesis provides a good starting point for future research of DoA estimation algorithms to enhance the performance of future-generation wireless networks and the accuracy of localization.
Vuotoaaltoantennille on kehitetty kolme erilaista suunnanestimointialgoritmia: 1) muunneltu MUSIC- (multiple signal classification), 2) säteilykyvioiden tehojen ristikorrelaatio- (PPCC, power pattern cross correlation) ja 3) vierekkäisten säteilykuvioiden tehosuhdealgoritmi (APPR, adjacent power pattern ratio).

▼ LTE in the unlicensed spectrum, is becoming a popular area of research. Since LTE-Unlicensed (LTE-U) provides subscribers with higher-quality mobile voice, and video experience in high-traffic or low-signal locations, a fair coexistence mechanism with other networks, like Wi-Fi is essential. In this thesis, we propose two coexistence mechanisms that could be employed to ensure a fair channel access. First, we consider coexistence mechanism fundamentals, and then downlink system performance of two coexistence mechanisms are analyzed for multi-operator LTE-Unlicensed (LTE-U) deployments with different simulation scenarios, using NS-3. First we introduce the most trustworthy coexistence mechanism, and then a high-performance coexistence scenario is provided. We conclude that Licensed Assisted Access (LAA) can coexist with Wi-Fi without impacting Wi-Fi more than an equivalent Wi-Fi network. In the second part, uplink performance evaluation of LTE in licensed spectrum is also demonstrated.

▼ The problem. The problem of this study was to describe how educators from Iowa's small
districts understood the intent of House File 2272 and how they implemented that
legislation. Further, this study sought recommendations from educators for legislators to consider in making future policy. This was one of seven studies of 2272 sponsored by the
FINE Foundation.
Procedures.
Qualitative methodology was selected for this study to gather contextual perspectives.
Semi-structured interviews were conducted, data transcribed and coded, and district
documents collected and reviewed. Site reports were provided to participant districts to
serve as a member check.
Findings.
Cross-site findings included; (1) while accepting the intent of increased
accountability, educators suspected legislative biases against small schools; (2) leadership provided the supports to facilitate successful implementation; (3) HF 2272 did not hinder community relations and perhaps enhanced them; (4)assessment became more
formalized and districts more data-driven; (5) barriers of time and money existed, but
change issues and teacher turnover were also formidable; (6) unintended consequences
included increased educator workloads, a narrowing of curriculum, and a perception that
policymakers disrespected educators; and (7) a call for greater voice for educators in
future policy decisions was heard.
Conclusions.
Conclusions drawn: (1) efforts prior to 2272 paved the way for successful implementation of that law, (2) central office leadership was key to implementation, (3) going beyond compliance required addressing barriers skillfully, (4) legislative intent and
suspected motive sent conflicting messages to educators, (5) adaptation was a way of life in small schools, and (6) policymakers must provide resources if deep reform is the goal. Recommendations. In the broadest terms, educators wanted legislators to understand that if the legislature was to reform education in Iowa, they had to first gain a significantly more refined understanding of schools and the governance of the system that they wish to change. As important, to make a convincing effort that their efforts were not just politically motivated, they had to show support for the reform effort.

▼ South Africa has among the highest rates of physical and sexual violence against women in the world. Research indicates that understanding the causality of domestic violence is very complex and the measurement of risk factors are deemed challenging. Yet, it is important to understand and identify the risk factors associated with domestic violence to effectively prevent it. This phenomenological research study aimed to investigate the lived experiences of female domestic violence victims and sought to identify risk factors (e.g. alcohol and drug abuse, violence in the family of origin, personality factors, cultural differences, socio-economic factors, and the impact of pregnancy) that may have contributed to the occurrence of domestic violence in their intimate relationships .The participants were selected based on purposive and convenience sampling and also their willingness to participate. The sample consisted of six participants between the ages of 18 – 45 years old, residing in Tshwane, South Africa. The data were obtained through semi-structured interviews. A qualitative methodological design was used to collect and explore information about the participants’ personal experiences with domestic violence. Hycner’s explicitation process was employed to identify the four main themes, namely the participants’ experience of domestic violence; socio economic factors; cultural differences, and domestic violence during pregnancy. Each main theme was comprised of sub-themes.
The findings of this study differed slightly in comparison with the existing body of literature that highlight substance abuse as one of the highest risk factors for the occurrence of domestic violence in intimate relationships. In this study, other risk factors such as pregnancy and socio-economic factors played a much bigger role than substance abuse as the key risk factors that contribute to the occurrence of domestic violence.; INingizimu Afrika ingenye yamazwe omhlaba anamazinga aphezulu odlame nokuhlukunyezwa kwabesimame ngokocansi.
