A motivação inicial desta pesquisa é a fértil discussão acerca da Identidade e das diferenças culturais entabulada especialmente pelos Estudos Culturais e Literários, especificamente a partir da categoria conceitual da nacionalidade. Norteada pelo conceito de Alegoria proposto por Fredric Jameson, para quem tal conceito se aplica principalmente à análise dos textos literários do capitalismo tardio, tentou-se desnudar as estratégias usadas na composição de Belém do Grão-Pará1 para narrar a complexidade da identidade nacional inscrita no Inconsciente Político. Admitindo que a Alegoria, para Jameson, é o próprio objeto cultural e estético cuja constituição e disposição dos elementos estruturais narra, às vezes em foro íntimo ou privado das personagens, a História das sociedades, segundo a experiência político-ideológica de suas classes. Tomados estes pressupostos, fez-se a análise do romance dalcidiano considerando-se a migração do protagonista como alegoria do cruzamento entre diferentes culturas, fato social gerador de uma hipotética diluição da identidade. Contudo, apoiado num paralelo traçado entre o contato do ribeirinho com o modus vivendi da cidade e a reação antropofágica do modernismo brasileiro frente ao modus vivendi civilizado da Europa, este trabalho nega a idéia de que o cruzamento de fronteiras culturais implique no fim da nacionalidade. Em linhas gerais tratamos de um conceito de Identidade fundado na experiência coletiva de indivíduos que, apesar de grandes diferenças de classe social, gênero ou etnia, construíram-se sob ideologias comuns. Nesta análise de Belém do Grão-Pará, cenas urbanas como ir ao cinema ou ver passar o trem são resignificadas pelo protagonista com base nas referências que trouxe de Cachoeira do Arari, seu lugar de origem, enquanto este também passa por uma revisão segundo o novo paradigma urbano que o protagonista vive em Belém.

This work admits the allegory concept presented by Fredric Jameson as Possibility for reading speech of the history through Brazilian poetic speech, especially the Dalcidio Jurandirs novel, Belém do Grão-Pará. The beginning of the twentieth century is read through circumstances lived by the protagonist Alfredo, starting from his move from Cachoeira do Arari to Belém. Using the Marxist dialectic premises, little by little we analyzed the meaning of anthropophagi as sort of decisive political attitude to rupture with the idea of Brazilian culture submission front to the external cultures, specifically Europes. The new dimension given to the European vanguard in cultural and esthetic Brazilian means, as well the intellectual argument between the revolutionary sections of the national art and the academic eighteenth century tradition, were essentials to the statement of a very peculiar place to Brazilian literature in Latin-American and global context, especially. La présente thèse s’appuie sur les correspondances adressées par le compositeur Henri Tomasi, entre 1916 et 1940, à Joséphine et Xavier Tomasi, ses parents, puis de 1954 à 1971, à Jean Molinetti, son ami le plus proche. Il s’agit d’un ensemble de 533 lettres inédites, qui ont été transcrites, classées, et annotées. Cet unique témoignage écrit du musicien nous permet de comprendre les répercussions qu’eurent sur son œuvre créatrice les événements qui ponctuèrent sa vie et dont ses courriers se font l’écho. Nous étudions ainsi tour à tour l’environnement familial d’Henri Tomasi, au travers notamment du rôle fondamental que joua son père tant dans son éducation que dans le cadre de ses recherches sur la musique traditionnelle corse ; nous voyons la façon dont le jeune musicien conduisit ses études musicales, les rapports qu’il entretint avec les institutions de son temps, mais aussi le rôle que purent jouer les différentes activités de chef d’orchestre qu’il exerça à certaines périodes de son existence. Nous assistons également à l’évolution progressive de sa pensée et à sa transposition dans son œuvre musicale. Tout au long de ces années, cette correspondance au cours de laquelle le musicien passe successivement d’une écriture contrainte à une écriture choisie, nous livre des informations capitales et nous séduit par la vivacité de son ton et le mordant de son style.

The present thesis is based on all the written correspondence from the composer Henri Tomasi to Joséphine and Xavier Tomasi, his parents, between 1916 and 1940.Then, from 1954 to 1971 to Jean Molinetti, his closest friend. This correspondence includes 533 unpublished letters which have been transcribed, classified and annotated. This musician's unique written testimony allows us to understand how the events which punctuated his life, echoed in his letters, had repercussions on his creative work. Thus in turn, we will study Henri Tomasi's family environment considering notably the fundamental role played by his father in his education as well as in the field of his research on traditional Corsican music ; we'll see the way the young musician conducted his musical studies, his relationship with the institutions of his time but also the role his various activities as a conductor were to play at certain periods of his life. We will also follow the progressive evolution of his thought and its transposition in his musical work. In this correspondence, throughout all those years, the musician's constrained writing style gradually evolved into a more personal one. It gives us essential information and Tomasi seduces us by the incisiveness of his style and by the liveliness of his tone.

In this Dissertation my attempt is to interpret Dio’s four Discourses in which the central person is the Cynic philosopher Diogenes, who is also present in some other Discourses (The fourth on Kingship, On Fortune II, On Personal Appearance) apart from the four ones treated here, i.e. On Tyranny, On Virtue, The Isthmian Discourse and On Servants. The Cynic Philosophy, however, generally diffuses the body of Dio’s Discourses, especially those written during his exile. The four so-called “Diogenic” Discourses, which for the first time are translated into Greek in this Dissertation, contain in its entirety the cynic philosophical view of things, which is mainly practical and less theoretical, and the principles of cynic doctrines (physical life, shamelessness, temperance, exercise, boldness, rejection of any social contract). These principles are examined in relation to Dio’s thought, which was formed at that time, and to his life, which followed the cynic model of life. In approaching these four Discourses, Dio’s personality in his time and his intellectual production is in the first instance seen closely. Next, the philosophical principles of Stoicism and Cynicism near one another are recorded, and some data on the life and spiritual personality of Diogenes and Dio Chrysostom are given. Along with the interpretation of the said four Discourses, Dio’s influence by Homer, the Tragic Poets, Plato and Stoicism is examined in them, and more broadly in the whole body of the work of Dio, as well as the presence of the Sophists in these Discourses and elsewhere. It is significant to say that these four Discourses include the Cynic Philosophy throughout its scope, and I believe that this work provides the reader the opportunity to know and understand Diogenes’ cynic principles and personality, also the way and the method of his philosophical approach.

Η παρούσα διδακτορική διατριβή έχει ως βασικό της αντικείμενο την διεξοδική ερμηνευτική ανάλυση των τεσσάρων Λόγων του Δίωνος Χρυσοστόμου με κεντρικό πρόσωπο τον Διογένη τον Κυνικό, ο οποίος είναι παρών και σε άλλους Λόγους του Δίωνος (Περὶ Βασιλείας Δ΄, Περὶ Τύχης Β’, Περί σχήματος) εκτός από τους τέσσερεις Λόγους που πραγματεύονται στην εργασία αυτή (Περὶ Τυραννίδος, Περὶ Ἀρετῆς, Ἰσθμικός , Περὶ Οἰκετῶν). Η κυνική φιλοσοφία συνέχει την φιλοσοφική σκέψη του Δίωνος και διαχέεται γενικότερα σε όλο το σώμα των Λόγων του, ιδιαίτερα αυτών που γράφτηκαν κατά την περίοδο της εξορίας του. This work of research has the purpose of developing a theological reflection about cabocla Amazonian culture from de work of a marajoara writer Dalcídio Jurandir. We had started from the presupposition that, in spite of the importance that the Amazon region has acquired, the knowledge about the region (still) remains limited because of the labels that were attributed to it throughout its occupation. We had understood that the process is a historic cultural invisibility, that in its usage, it is translated as a socio-politic invisibility. In this way, this elaboration is specifically in the riverain cabocla culture of the region of the Marajó Islands. The examination of this culture, inside of the intuitions of the Latin American Theology, is a contribution to the fights in defense of the region, of its peoples and its cultural ethos. At the beginning the life and work of Dalcídio Jurandir are situated in his moment: the first half of the XX century, the moment in which it has consolidated, in Amazon, the capitalist exploration system, with the consequent erosion of cultural ethos of the acculturated Brazilian Indian Caboclo. The perspective of the research is definite by the reflection between two distinct visions about the region: the one about the writer Euclides da Cunha and the one of the native of Pará poet, João de Jesus Paes Loureiro. As a theoretical base, it was done an analysis about the constructed representations around Amazon concerning as to the situation of the region in the latest four decades as searching to the contemporary reflection about the relation between representation and identities. The hermeneutic framework makes use of the main themes of the contemporary theology Latin-American, especially the ethics from the victims having like a base, the work of Enri que Dussel. Une interrogation sur la nature et les pouvoirs de l’art traverse les journaux intimes de Mircea Eliade, Eugène Ionesco, Mihail Sebastian et Nicolae Steinhardt. Cette interrogation remonte aux débats littéraires de la Grande Roumanie, contexte historique d’où émergent ces écrivains. A cette période est aussi liée leur pratique du journal intime, genre qui caractérise la ‘jeune génération’, groupement de jeunes acteurs culturels lancé par Eliade. Les réceptions (selon le terme de H. R. Jauss) des œuvres d’art que ces quatre auteurs consignent dans leurs journaux intimes permettent d’illustrer trois pouvoirs de l’art mis en relief par leur jeunesse roumaine et leur cheminement après la guerre. L’art a un pouvoir formateur : il les enseigne en leur ouvrant des mondes présentés par les œuvres. Il a aussi un pouvoir nationaliste car, dans le nouvel état-nation roumain, dans le contexte d’une « littérature mineure », l’art tendait à être politisé et l’état roumain pratiqua une politique nationaliste qui n’épargna pas le domaine des arts. Enfin, l’art a un pouvoir thérapeutique car il permet d’aborder des expériences douloureuses telles que celle de la crise nationaliste roumaine, par des voies indirectes et plus attrayantes. Les quatre journaux intimes, établis à partir de textes publiés en Roumanie et en France, font découvrir quatre cheminements qui se croisent et s’éclairent mutuellement, notamment sur leurs relectures difficiles du passé roumain. Le parcours de Ionesco ressort particulièrement comme celui d’une thérapie par l’art et d’un ‘travail de mémoire’, selon le terme de Ricœur, sur son passé personnel et sur le XXe siècle européen.

Reflections about the nature and powers of art pervade the diaries of Mircea Eliade, Eugène Ionesco, Mihail Sebastian, and Nicolae Steinhardt. These reflections stem from the literary debates in fashion in Greater Romania in which all four authors took part. Their practice of diary keeping also goes back to this period. It especially characterized a group of young intellectuals launched by Eliade called the ‘Young Generation.’ The diary genre lends itself well to a type of study H. R. Jauss has called ‘reception.’ The receptions of art in the four diaries illustrate three powers of art. Art has a formative power: it teaches by opening the receiver to the world proposed by the work of art. Art also has a nationalistic power: as an instrument of national-identity building for the new Romanian nation-state, art did not escape the danger of politicization characteristic of so-called ‘minor literatures,’ a term this dissertation discusses, and the Romanian state practiced nationalist policies with regards to the arts. Lastly, art has a therapeutic power: it can help in coming to terms with painful experiences like that of the Romanian nationalist catastrophe by indirect and more attractive means. Esta dissertação, composta de três volumes (I. Biografia; II. Seleção de textos; e III. Catálogo bibliográfico), tem como objetivo resgatar a figura do escritor mineiro Jurandir Ferreira (1905-1997), contextualizando-o no cenário cultural de Poços de Caldas, cidade em que nasceu e residiu a maior parte da vida. Baseia-se para tanto em uma pesquisa de campo desenvolvida entre 1998 e 2005 (durante a Iniciação Científica e parte do Mestrado), composta basicamente de três etapas: 1. Consulta ao acervo do escritor; 2. Reunião e organização de textos de e sobre ele dispersos em periódicos; e 3. Entrevistas com escritores, amigos e familiares do autor. A literatura na estância balneária de Poços tardou a ultrapassar as ralas manifestações de jornal, devido, em grande parte, a uma cultura de entretenimento que os cassinos instalaram por lá. O primeiro romance só apareceu em 1948, com a edição de O céu entre montanhas, de Jurandir Ferreira. O autor incluído entre Os 18 melhores contos do Brasil, editado pela Bloch em 1968 publicou ainda coletâneas de contos, crônicas e poesias, além de um segundo romance e da novela Um ladrão de guarda-chuvas, que lhe valeu o Prêmio Guimarães Rosa de 1994. Do conjunto de sua obra onze títulos publicados em geral por editoras paulistas, como Martins, Saraiva e Duas Cidades destacam-se as crônicas, traçadas com estilo leve e seguro, que compõem o painel de uma vila interiorana, com sua gente, seus costumes e suas transformações. Ao refazer o percurso da vida intelectual de Jurandir Ferreira, nota-se que, paralelamente à carreira de escritor, ele se empenhou em construir um sistema literário orgânico em Poços, podendo ser considerado, pelo seu enorme esforço, o principal divulgador da literatura moderna naquelas regiões montanhosas.

This dissertation, composed of three volumes (I. Biography; II. Selection of texts; and III. Bibliographical catalog), aims to rescue the writer\'s personality of Jurandir Ferreira (1905-1997), bring him in to the cultural scenery context of Poços of Caldas, city he was born and lived most part of his life. This work was based in the field research developed between 1998 and 2005 (during the Scientific Initiation and part of the period of the Master\'s degree), an it was composed basically of three stages: 1.Studies of the writer\'s collection; 2. Organization of texts of and about him dispersed in periodical publication; and 3. Interviews with writers, friends and the authors family. The literature in the Watering Place of Poços delayed to cross the insipient manifestations of newspaper, due, mostly, the culture of entertainment that the casinos installed in the city. His first novel only appeared in 1948, with the edition of O céu entre montanhas, of Jurandir Ferreira. The author included among the eighteen better short story of Brazil, edited by Bloch in 1968 published so far collections of stories, chronicles and poetries, besides a second novel and of the fiction Um ladrão de guarda-chuvas, in which he was awarded the Guimarães Rosa prize in 1994. ▼ Breast milk is the ideal food for infants, offering essential nutrients and energy for growth and proteins from the mother to develop immunity. Exclusive breastfeeding is therefore recommended for the infant during the first 6 months of life. Obese women however are less likely to initiate breastfeeding, breastfeed for shorter durations, and often suffer a delay in the onset of lactogenesis. 34% of reproductive age women are obese, thus obesity-impaired lactation is a significant problem. Recent research is focused on the impaired onset of lactogenesis with little information on how obesity affects milk secretion after the onset of lactogenesis and limited information on milk composition. DBA/2J mice were used to characterize how diet induced obesity (DIO) affects early, established lactation in a series of 3 studies. Female mice were fed either a high fat diet (HFD) with 45% kcal from fat or a control diet (CD) with 10% kcal from fat throughout the study. Mice were bred ~5 weeks after start of experimental diet and the body weights of the HFD group were significantly heavier than the control group. Experiments were performed during early lactation at LD 4-6. In study 1, we explored effects of DIO on secretion during established lactation. Milk secretion was measured by weigh-suckle-weigh, mammary gland morphology and the number of alveoli were visually assessed by hemoatoxylin and eosin (H and E) staining. The expression of major milk proteins was analyzed by real-time PCR and immunoblot. There was no significant effect of a high fat diet on milk secretion, mammary gland morphology, number of alveoli, or mRNA expression of secretory proteins β-casein and α-lactalbumin between mice fed HFD vs. mice fed CD. The mRNA expression of whey acidic protein (WAP) in the mammary gland was significantly lower (P<0.01) in mice fed HFD compared with mice fed CD, yet protein expression of WAP in the mammary gland was not different between groups. The protein expression of β-casein was significantly (P<0.05) greater in the mammary glands of mice fed HFD compared with mice fed CD. Study 1 determined that DIO does not impair secretion during established lactation as evidenced by no impairment in volume of milk secreted, no abnormalities in mammary gland morphology and no impairment in the expression of secretory proteins. These findings emphasize the importance of an obese mother receiving adequate lactational support in order to establish the onset of lactogenesis as obesity should otherwise cause no secretory impairment. In study 2, we explored effects of DIO on milk composition. Fat content, lactose and total protein concentration, protein composition and zinc concentration were analyzed. L’écoute du sacré touche les racines de la poésie de Pasolini, même si il se décrit comme un athée. La recherche analyse sa poésie dans sa chronologique: les collections de la jeunesse (La meglio gioventù et L’usignolo della Chiesa Cattolica) sont caractérisées par visions et images christologiques dans un paysage de «apparences sacrée» où il découvre l’homosexualité comme une «faute innocente», pas intentionnelle, qui lui empêche d'entrer en communion avec les autres créatures. Pour ce péché il demande écoute, engageant une dispute biblique et théologique. Avec l'arrivée à Rome s’ouvre une nouvelle phase: Pasolini découvre la dimension chorale des banlieues romaines et cette découverte rompt son isolement intellectuel (Le ceneri di Gramsci). Alors il cesse de demander pardon et revoit le concept de péché qui n'est plus à l'intérieur mais aussi à l'extérieur de lui-même, commis par qui (la bourgeoisie néo-capitaliste, hégémonique, irréligieuse et « fasciste ») empêche chaque «créature» d'être telle qu'elle est. Pour chaque «créature», unique, Pasolini appelle à la miséricorde: «Pitié pour la créature!» (La religione del mio tempo) et construit, dans le chemin de la meilleure tradition humaniste de Virgile à Dante à Leopardi, une vision sacrée de la réalité inscrite dans un horizon non « créationniste » mais certainement « créaturelle», dans lequel Dieu ne peut pas être vu mais seulement aperçu à la façon d’un soleil éclipsé, lumière occulte dont on ne voit pas la source, qui tombe sur les créatures (surtout les dernières et les marginalisés) et qui leur donne une vie pleine de sens poétique: l'incarnation du «surhumain» dans l’«humaine» (Trasumanar et organizzar).

The sense of a sacred vision deeply influences the poetry of Pasolini. This research paper confronts the fact that P. always saw himself as an atheist. It analyses his poetry in its chronological evolution, indicating how the first collections (La meglio gioventù and L’Usignolo della Chiesa Cattolica) are characterized by Christological visions and images. In Friuli, in a maternal landscape made up of “sacred appearances”, he discovers his homosexuality as a "guilty innocent", something not intentional and that prevents him from the communion with other creatures. For this sin, he asks to be heard, engaging in a biblical-theological dispute. His arrival in Rome opens a new phase: P. discovers the choral dimension of the Roman suburbs that breaks the previous isolation (Le ceneri di Gramsci). He stops asking for forgiveness and reviews the concept of sin that is not only internal, but also external, committed by the neo-capitalistic bourgeoisie who is both irreligious and “fascist”, preventing any single “creature” from being as it truly is. For every “creature”, unique and different from all the others, P. calls for mercy: «Pity the creature!» (La religione del mio tempo) and in the wake of the best humanistic tradition from Virgil to Dante onwards to Leopardi, he builds a sacred vision of reality which is inscribed into a philosophical horizon, not…

Hipótesis de trabajo: - ¿Es la hipoplasia uterina uno de los factores a valorar en pacientes en estudio de fertilidad? - ¿Cuál es la relación entre el tamaño uterino y un resultado positivo de gestación en un ciclo de una técnica de reproducción asistida? 3. Objetivos: 3.1. Principales: - Valorar el tamaño uterino medido en su diámetro longitudinal definido por la distancia desde orificio cervical externo (OCE) hasta el límite fúndico de la cavidad endometrial: histerometría. Establecer los límites, en centímetros, que se asocien a menores tasas de gestación tras un tratamiento de reproducción asistida. - Medición ecográfica del grosor endometrial en el momento de la técnica de reproducción asistida y determinar los límites del mismo que se asocian a menores tasas de gestación en tratamientos de reproducción asistida. - Determinar los límites de tamaño uterino que definirían un útero hipoplásico y si éste, debe ser considerado un tipo de malformación uterina. - Valorar el pronóstico reproductivo de mujeres con úteros de menor tamaño y si el tamaño influye en el número de ciclos que estas pacientes realizan o aumenta la incidencia de abortos en primer trimestre (incluyendo abortos bioquímicos, gestaciones ectópicas,…). 2.2. Objetivos secundarios: - Valorar la importancia de las variables histerometría y diámetro entre ambos ostium (DIO), conjuntamente o por separado, en cuanto a probabilidad de gestación, en una paciente sometida a un tratamiento de reproducción asistida. Establecer si histerometrías menores de 6,5 centímetros asocian menores tasas de gestación. Ligado o no, a valores de DIO por debajo de 2,5 centímetros. - Valoración de la proporcionalidad uterina como factor pronóstico de éxito en una paciente sometida a una técnica de reproducción. Dicho parámetro definido por la siguiente fórmula: DIO/histerometría x 100. Es decir, hasta qué punto, la armonía existente entre la histerometría y el DIO influye en las tasas de éxito reproductivo. 4. Diseño del estudio: Se trata de un estudio retrospectivo en el que se han estudiado, finalmente, 1.082 ciclos de un total de 859 pacientes tratadas consecutivamente con técnicas de reproducción asistida en el Departamento de Fertilidad del Hospital Clínico Universitario y en la Clínica FIV Valencia. 5. Lugar de ejecución: Llevado a cabo en Hospital Clínico Universitario de Valencia situado en la Avenida Blasco Ibáñez número 17 y en el Centro de Reproducción Asistida Clínica FIV Valencia en la calle Santa Rosa número 12, Valencia. 6. Nesta tese, visamos analisar a representação do espaço no corpus composto de três romances de Dalcídio Jurandir (1909-1979) e três de Milton Hatoum (1952-...) e que são, respectivamente: Três casas e um rio (1958), Belém do Grão Pará (1960) e Ribanceira (1978); Relato de um certo oriente (1989), Dois irmãos (2000) e Cinzas do Norte (2005). Para tanto, realizamos discussão prévia sobre aspectos teóricos do espaço na literatura, assim como breve análise da tradição literária nortista, além de incursões pela história da literatura brasileira. Dessa forma, partindo do pressuposto da existência de uma tradição de representação ficcional da Amazônia, iniciada com os relatos dos viajantes, a obra de Dalcídio Jurandir foi analisada a partir de categorias como travessia e viagem na trajetória do personagem Alfredo, eixo e fio condutor dos romances, marcando a transição da literatura de ambientação rural ou interiorana para a ficção urbana. A seguir foram analisados na obra de Milton Hatoum os sentidos da recuperação e da disputa dos espaços íntimos da casa familiar, assim como a configuração da cidade de Manaus, além da incorporação da história à ficção. Cada qual a seu modo, esses dois autores são romancistas da cidade, leitores e intérpretes do espaço urbano em sua complexidade, criadores ficcionais que observam a cada passo de seus heróis como a história afeta a vida no interior das casas e se incorpora à memória familiar.

This dissertation aims at analyzing the Amazonian physical environment as represented in the fictional world of three novels each by Dalcídio Jurandir (Três casas e um rio, 1958) ; Belém do Grão Pará (1960) ; and Ribanceira, 1978); and Milton Hatoum (Relato de um certo oriente, 1989 ; Dois irmãos, 2000 ; and Cinzas do Norte, 2005). A preliminary discussion of the scholarship focusing on this issue ; a brief analysis of Brazil\'s Northern region and its literary tradition ; and a few incursions in Brazilian literature were also attempted at this study\'s outset. Assisted by previous fictional representations of the Amazon in travel literature, the works by Jurandir were analyzed from a range of perspectives. The categories centering on the notion of passage and journey - as evinced in the trip undertaken by the character of Alfredo - function as a conducting device which highlights the transition between the literature imbued with a keynote of rural adaptation (of the so-called interior) to that of urban fiction. This was followed up by an analysis of Hatoum\'s work, especially for the following purposes : the theme of recovery and the dispute over the intimacy of the family\'s home ; the outline of the city of Manaus ; and the inclusion of history in fiction. With each author leaving his own imprint on the issues at stake, both are unquestionably urban writers who read and interpret this urban setting for its complexity, in addition to demonstrating how each step taken by their protagonists not only affects life within these houses, but also how this is incorporated into the family\'s memory.

▼ We attempted a thorough analysis of the development of Poulantzas’ theory of the State and of itsparticular correlation to the status of ideology. We also followed the inner transformations of hisapproach throughout his work, as well as the gradual modifications of the basic concepts he devised,always endeavouring not merely to establish the core perspective of his work overall, but also to pointout the inner incompatibilities in the development of his thinking, adopting a critical understanding andoutlook. In the scope of this approach, we detect a great number of issues which were and still areopen today, concerning the way we think of politics, the general conception of the political and theideological.Poulantzas who established his theoretical typology within the boundaries of Marxism, was seeking atthe same time a scientific foundation of sociopolitical theory in the direction activated by Althusser et al.during the 1960s.Our position is – and this has been the focal point of our argument- that his theoreticaltypology, despite being the source of deeper investigation and further semantic honing by Poulantzashimself, still leaves a decisive gap in the formation of society and politics. This gap concerns the statusand conception of subjectivity and we could claim that the main body of Poulantzas’ social theory, withall the transmutations and modifications that it gradually underwent over time, is organized on thewhole around a basic axis : that of deletion, elision of subjectivity, its relegation to a vehicle of therelations of production, a vehicle which is formed by the orthopaedics of power relations, whosestrategic encapsulation is the State. It therefore concerns the formation of a social theory, which isdefined by the status of an absence, a demotion of the subject, and it is perfectly clear that such ademotion has significant implications on the way ideology is conceptualized.Issues ranging from the hegemonic function of the State to the conceptualization of ideologicalsubsystems and the way they interact through class struggle, and from the analysis of the distinctionbetween mental/manual labour to the process of individuation, always rest on a substratum of a givensocio-ontic relation. ▼ Meine Arbeit befasst sich, ausgehend von der auf Netflix ausgestrahlten Serie „Das römische Reich: Eine blutige Herrschaft“ (OT: Roman Empire: Reign of Blood) aus dem Jahr 2016, mit dem Bild des Kaisers Commodus, das den Fernsehzuschauern mittels Dokumentationen gezeigt wird. Denn diese Historienserie präsentiert sich selbst als Dokumentation. Da die Mini-Netflix-Serie (bestehend aus sechs Episoden) das Bild, das man vom Kaiser durch Filme wie „Gladiator“ (2000) oder „Der Untergang des römischen Reiches“ (1964) bekommen hat, vollkommen umkehrt und ihn nicht als grausamen Herrscher, sondern als Opfer seiner Zeit zeigt. Trotzdem bleibt auch am Ende dieser Serie das Urteil an ihm hängen, das ihm schon zuvor immer wieder angehängt wurde: Commodus sei der Kaiser gewesen, der den Untergang des römischen Reiches verursacht hätte. In der Arbeit sollen durch ein Interview mit dem Autor der Serie Jeremiah Murphy Fragen geklärt werden, wie z.B.: Warum hat diese Serie gerade Commodus im Fokus? Warum wird sein negatives Bild ins positive umgekehrt? Warum wird er am Ende der Serie trotzdem als Begründer des Untergangs des römischen Reiches hingestellt? Haben die Drehbuchautoren die Originalquellen gelesen? Nach welchen Kriterien wurden die in der Serie zu Wort kommenden Historiker ausgewählt? Wieso wählte man das Format Netflix? Wer ist das Zielpublikum und was will man mit dieser Mischung aus Dokumentation und Fernserie bezwecken? Besonders interessiert mich, warum sich die Serie gerade um Commodus dreht, denn er ist einer von vielen römischen Kaisern, die der breiten Masse überhaupt nicht bekannt sind, und wenn, dann ist er es hauptsächlich nur aus dem Film „Gladiator“. Es gibt auch keine neuere Commodus-Monographie. Das letzte Buch, das sowohl für Historiker, als auch für ein breiteres Publikum geschrieben wurde, ist jenes von Jerry Toner (The day Commodus Khilled a Rhino,Baltimore, 2014). Jerry Toner ist auch einer der Historiker, die in der Netflix-Serie über Commodus sprechen und versuchen, dem Publikum begreiflich zu machen, dass Commodus eigentlich gar nicht bösartig war. Ich bin bis jetzt noch nicht auf eine andere Dokumentation, die sich rein mit Commodus beschäftig, gestoßen, aber in denjenigen, in denen er erwähnt wird, wird er stets negativ charakterisiert. Weiters stellt sich mir die Frage nach der Umsetzung des Themas in einer kombinierten Form von TV-Serie und Dokumentation: - Warum wird hier ein Serienformat mit episch-monumentalem Aufwand verwendet? Liegt es daran, dass der Filmboom vorbei ist und nun Serien das beliebteste Genre sind und man somit mit Serien nun mehr Geld verdienen kann? Fakt ist, dass auch bei dieser Serie wieder Elemente vorkommen, die das heutige Fernsehpublikum einfach mitreißen: die mystische Antike, ein farbenfrohes Spektakel in der Bildgestaltung, eine üppige Ausstattung, Erotik, Prunk und Pracht. This dissertation explores the process of history-writing by Dio Cassius through comparative literary historiographic analysis. By examining Dio’s Roman History as an integral historiographic endeavor, the dissertation attempts to reconstruct Dio’s overarching methodology. This task is achieved through the analysis of Dio’s own editorial asides and the comparison of Dio with parallel historical accounts, as well as by means of observing consistent features in Dio’s compositional design. The dissertation addresses such aspects of Dio’s methodology as his critical approach to sources, his principles involved in selection, reworking, and presentation of the historical material, his treatment of variant versions, and his use of literary allusions. A more in-depth discussion is devoted both to the role which dreams, portents, and prodigies, as well as wisdom expressions play in the system of causation developed by Dio, and to the historiography of Dio’s speeches. The dissertation revisits the traditional preconceptions regarding Dio’s extensive reliance on Thucydides, and in particular subjects to a systematic critique the hypothesis that Dio shared a Thucydidean pessimistic view of human nature, perceived as a constant. The dissertation analyzes the multi-step procedure of Dio’s causation and his emphasis on retrospective logical analysis of the motivations of influential individuals which determine the outcomes of the historical events. A systematic treatment of the typology, function, and patterns of presentation of speeches in Dio is undertaken in the concluding part of the study. This discussion revisits the traditional dichotomy in interpretation of Dio’s speeches (whether they are just rhetorical set-pieces akin to the progymnasmata of the rhetorical schools or they truly represent the author’s own views) and points toward new interpretative directions which take into consideration other types of intellectual discourse of the period, including those formed by the system of formal rhetorical education. The dissertation draws a portrait of the historical work of Dio Cassius as a mirror of the intellectual and cultural preoccupations of his own time. It treats the Roman History of Dio Cassius as belonging simultaneously to many intellectual orbits: in cultural sense, to both the Greek and the Roman worlds; in generic, linguistic, and literary sense — both to the traditions of classical Attic historiography and to new intellectual trends brought forth by the spirit of the Second Sophistic.

▼ The dissertation examines interactions of three Second Sophistic authors (Plutarch, Dio Chrysostom, and Ailios Aristeides) with Plato and his dialogues. Although the significance of Plato and his dialogues for Greek literature of the imperial period is well-known, there is lack of nuanced case studies attempting to uncover the mechanics and purpose of literary interactions with Plato. Scholarship tends to explain Plato’s presence in the Second Sophistic literature en masse as a socio-cultural phenomenon, interpreting Platonic presence in the Greek imperial authors as a cultural and stylistic statement on their part: as a means by which authors create their cultural identity and construct the cultural status of the present. Consequently, particular instances of the interaction between Second Sophistic authors and Plato frequently remain unexamined. In my examination of texts by Dio, Plutarch, and Ailios Aristeides, I focus on their meaning and how it is shaped and modified by placing Plato in the background. In the Introduction, I offer a broad picture of the reception of Plato and his dialogues before and during the Second Sophistic. I draw attention to the fact that by interacting with Plato, a Second Sophistic author located himself within a lengthy and complex tradition of Platonic reception. I examine different literary strategies by means of which Second Sophistic authors interact with Plato, with special emphasis on a literary allusion and a dialogic genre as two ways of positioning one’s work vis-à-vis Plato’s text(s). The three chapters of my dissertation examine different approaches to Plato and Platonic legacy. In the first chapter, I examine two dialogues which evoke Plato both structurally and verbally: Dio Chrysostom’s Charidemos and Plutarch’s Symposion of the Seven Sages. Both these texts make a considerable use of Plato’s Phaidon. I examine literary techniques by means of which Dio and Plutarch evoke Platonic text and ask the question about the function and significance of the Platonic background. In the second chapter I focus on Platonic allusions in two non-dialogic works by these two same authors: Plutarch’s On listening, a work focused on philosophical education, and Dio’s Euboïkos. The affinity of these two works lies in their choice of the Republic as a subtext; in my examination I argue that recurrent references to the Republic are a sign of an intense interaction with Plato’s views on education and politics as expressed in this particular dialogue. In the third chapter I move to a slightly younger author and examine Ailios Aristeides’ To Plato: in Defence of Oratory, to show an author actively engaged in the discussion over the Platonic legacy and the values and perils that it involved. ▼ This thesis challenges one of the fundamental assumptions about Rome's political upheaval in the third century CE. This period is conventionally defined by the growing political influence of the army at the expense of the Senate, after the Severan emperors made it clear that their hold on power rested on military support. The soldiers would grow bolder in asserting their position, eventually coming to overthrow emperors at will. I present a broad reassessment of the evidence for a historical model which derives from the narratives of two contemporary witnesses, Cassius Dio and Herodian. Dio is the subject of my first discussion. I address two problems. Firstly, Dio's contemporary history survives only through Byzantine epitomes and excerpts. Its irreparable alteration means that Dio's later books cannot be treated in their own terms, but have to be contextualised against the wider thematic framework of his thousand-year account. Secondly, I turn to Dio himself. Within that framework, Dio presents himself as the ideal senatorial historian. In doing so, he is able to define a uniform senatorial experience, which excludes everything else as deriving from military corruption. An analysis of Herodian follows, also in two parts. The first analyses Herodian's construction of Roman society into three constituent parts, Senate, army and people. I show how these simplistically homogenous social units allow Herodian to explore imperial character, even as they cause inconsistencies in his political narrative. I then address Herodian's account of Maximinus Thrax. This narrative has been presented as the historical culmination of the army taking over politically. I argue instead that it represents the climax of Herodian's rhetorical scheme. Overall, the model of political conflict is built on two contemporary accounts which have specific reasons to simplify matters in their presentation of political activity. In order to understand the nature of political change in this period, I argue that it is necessary to move beyond them.

The purpose of this study is to demonstrate the role which tradition plays in Ritsos' poetry. It constitutes three chapters: Ancient tradition in Ritsos' poetry but more especially in the poems of The Fourth Dimension. The Folk Song and Ritsos' Epitaph. Folk, Historical, Literary, and Religious tradition in Ritsos' poetry but more especially in the following poems: Romiossini ("Greekness'), Kira Ton Abelion ("Lady of the Vineyards'), Teratodes Aristourgima ("Monstrous Masterpiece'). In the early section of the first chapter, emphasis is placed on the presence of "myth" in Ritsos' poetry - myth, which enriches it with symbols and references drawn from the entire mythological nexus. Ritsos penetrates modern man's thoughts, feelings and actions. He applies the principle of objectivity, which at the same time is the "basic function" of his mythical method. In the second part, emphasis is placed not only on the dramatic monologues of Ritsos' Fourth Dimension but also on the manner in which the monologues relate with ancient drama, where Ritsos with his own personal and vivid style gives it that human drama which identifies with that of Greek tragedy. Furthermore, existing linguistic similarities and differences are illustrated which exist in The Fourth Dimension and ancient drama. The dramatic factor is examined in the poems and monologues as also on the demystification and the unheroic - a factor common to both Ritsos and Euripides. The second chapter demonstrates the influence of folk songs on Ritsos' poetry and more especially on the Epitaph. A detailed discussion is presented on the manner in which the Epitaph relates with the Laments (folk songs of grief and lamentation), with the following points of comparison used in this regard: use of the Fifteen Syllabic Metre, language, vocabulary, syntactical and paratactical elements, pleonastic uses, figures of speech, symmetry, rhyme and literary style, inter alia. The third chapter examines in detail the element of tradition (ancient, historical, literary, Christian, religious and folk-lyric factors) in the following poems: 'Romiossini' ('Greelcriess), 'Kira Ton Abelion' (Lady of the Vineyards) and 'Teratodes Aristourgima' (Monstrous Masterpiece '). The aim in this section is to ascertain (by means of direct and indirect examples drawn from Greek Tradition) the degree of influence which tradition exerts on Ritsos' work and the, manner in which Ritsos' work relates to it. Obvious similarities are pointed out - those which are contained in 'Romiossini' and Solomos"Eleftheri Poliorkimeni' ('The Free Besieged). Furthermore, similarities found in Sikelianos"/era Odos' ('The Sacred Way) and 'Kira Ton Abelion' ('Lady of the Vineyards) are compared with those found in Makriyannis and Theophilos (common element in Ritsos - Seferis-Elytis). Similarities found in 'Teratodes Aristourgima' (Monstrous Masterpiece) are compared with those of Kariotakis, Palamas ('Dodecalogos tou Giftou' - ' Gypsy's Dodecalogue), Porfiras, Varnalis, Tsirkas, 'Erophili and Erotocritos'.

▼ La presente tesis doctoral propone el análisis de veintiún proyectos paisajísticos ejecutados por el paisajista Burle Marx entre los años 1930 y 1970. Podemos seguir el proceso creativo y entender la totalidad del pensamiento del autor a través de sus diferentes etapas y ensayos proyectuales, uno de los principales desafíos del presente trabajo. A pesar de que los análisis son individuales, éstos obedecen a un orden cronológico de desarrollo y, a su vez, nos sirven como hilo conductor para confirmar la hipótesis planteada al principio de este trabajo; la obra de Burle Marx puede leerse como un único proyecto, es decir, el valor de cada proyecto existe cuando éstos se relacionan entre sí, haciendo de éste – el proyecto – un fragmento de una incesante investigación, desde los albores de sus proyectos paisajísticos, que le acompañará hasta el final de su carrera. Dicho sea de paso, estos últimos proyectos son los de Brasilia que, al tener que ceñirnos a un recorte temporal para viabilizar este estudio, los consideramos ejemplares como consolidación del lenguaje compositivo de Burle Marx y, parte integrante de un importante momento en el escenario de la arquitectura moderna brasileña e internacional. El análisis del uso del elemento acuático, presente en diferentes formas a lo largo del periodo analizado, puede servirnos también como hilo conductor de este estudio. Dividido en cuatro partes, el primer capítulo trata los primeros proyectos de la carrera de Burle Marx en Recife, con un vocabulario todavía muy influenciado por los conceptos clásicos de composición y que irá sufriendo influencias modernistas en los proyectos del segundo capítulo, como los ejemplos de la ciudad de Río de Janeiro. El tercer capítulo con proyectos de mayor porte, reflejo de la gran demanda de trabajos en su estudio, y para concluir el análisis de los proyectos para la nueva capital brasileña en el cuarto capítulo. ▼ I denna uppsats belyses på ett lokalt plan i Landskrona den stora kraftmätning som ägde rum på den svenska arbetsmarknaden 1909 med omfattande lockouter och storstrejk. Sammanlagt drogs 300 000 arbetare in i konflikten som pågick från den 4 augusti till omkring den 6 september. Orsakerna till storkonflikten var en serie lockouter som iscensattes av arbetsgivarsidan och som den fackliga sidan mötte med en omfattande arbetsnedläggelse. I bakgrunden till konflikten fanns de stora samhällsförändringar som industrialismen orsakade. Det svenska samhället förändrades i snabb takt vilket bland annat resulterade i tillkomsten av en arbetarklass och en ökad polarisering av samhället. Därtill skall läggas de bakomliggande orsaker som bestod av upplysningens strävan att sätta människan i centrum och uppfattningen om alla människors lika värde vilket ledde till en kamp för allmän rösträtt och ökad demokrati. LO-ledningen var till en början försiktig och såg inte storstrejken som en lösning på problemen på arbetsmarknaden eftersom det saknades pengar för att understödja en större konflikt. Delvis mot LO-ledningens uppfattning drevs storstrejken fram av de fackligt organiserade arbetarna med motivet att en så omfattande arbetsnedläggelse skulle sätta hela samhället i gungning och tvinga fram en acceptabel uppgörelse med arbetsgivarparten. I denna uppsats studeras hur de tre fackliga organisationerna Landskrona Sömmerskefackförening, Fabriksarbetareförbundet Grovarbetaravdelning 4 och Jern och Metallarbetarförbundet avdelning 40 – samtliga representerade i Landskrona – påverkades av storstrejken. De tre förbunden organiserade arbetare på arbetsplatser i Landskrona inom en begynnande tekoindustri, konstgödnings- och sockerfabrik och inom verkstadsföretag samt den begynnande varvsnäringen. De frågor som ställs till materialet är: Vilka strategier användes av de fackliga organisationerna? Vilka var målsättningarna med den fackliga verksamheten? Hur förändrades dessa över tid? På vilket sätt utgjorde Landskronas fackliga verksamhet någonting särpräglat i jämförelse med verksamheten på nationell nivå? Hur uppfattades stridsåtgärderna på ett lokalt fackligt plan? Studien visar att de lokala fackföreningarna ställdes inför helt nya uppgifter när de gällde att administrera strejken, värna medlemmarnas intresse och organisera insatser för att minska den nöd som uppstod i arbetarhemmen.

▼ This study was directed at investigating the impact of the Islamic Revolution on the education of females in Iran, which included an interpretation of Islam whose implementation in national affairs like education could change the position of women. The study analysed the status of women from the point of view of the teachings of Islam, the views of the parents,political and spiritual leaders in the Islamic Republic of Iran and the education policies and developments that have taken place in the country since the revolution in 1979. The focus was to find out whether the status of women in education had been elevated or depressed as a result of the Islamic Revolution. The study adopted qualitative research methods. The quantitative research techniques using questionnaires were employed in order to ensure triangulation.The findings of the study indicate that Islam as interpreted by the Iranian leaders does not discriminate against women. Islam as a religion accords equal treatment to all human beings.The low status of women in most Islamic countries has been a result of wrong interpretation of Ii>lam. The leaders of the Islamic Republic of Iran have been working towards changing the image of Islam. Their interpretation of the religion has been that it has principles which accord individuals their equal rights and freedoms, it respects human dignity, justice and fairness to all people and that all people have equal right to participate in public affairs. In education the understanding is that learning is a right for both men and women. The leaders of the Islamic Republic of Iran have attempted to implement their understanding of the underlining principles of Islam in relation to the education of females. Some of the policies instituted to support the education of females are: free education for everybody from primary to tertiary level, building of more schools in rural areas to reduce distances from home to school, single sex schools for girls, employment of female teachers in girls only schools and educating mothers about the importance of education for girls. These policies have increased the participation rates of females in education. One of the major policy initiative which has contributed to increases in the participation of females in education is the changing of the moral environment of the schools to correspond with the expectations of the communities.
