▼ Abstract The purpose of this study is to find the relationship between PAOD (Peripheral Arterial Occlusive Disease) and the major human diseases based on various statistics and literatures. The findings will facilitate the promotion of PAOD instrument at district clinics and hospitals where health and hygiene lessons are taught, these lessons will instruct people the idea of âprevention is better than cureâ and âearly discover early cureâ on PAOD. Through analysis of data collected from hospital questionnaires to find an effective marketing strategy of universal installation of PAOD instrument which will make it more popular and convenient to screen potential PAOD patients and to realize the idea of âearly discover early cureâ. Another approach of this study will focus on marketing strategy and corporate wide management strategy, the methods applied such as: 1. STP (Segmentation, Targeting, Positioning) marketing strategy 2. 4P (ProductãPriceãPlaceãPromote) theory, definition, features, advantages and disadvantages. 3. 4C (Customer benefitãCost to customerãConvenienceãCommunication) theory, definition, features, advantages and disadvantages. 4. The comparisons and crossed applications of 4P and 4C theory. 5. Vertical integration strategy. Through the above methods and the analysis of PAOD questionnaires, it decides a marketing strategy and execution approach. Besides, according to the current industry environment and health insurance system, this paper gives practical advices to company âAâ facing exit strategy. In an era of extremely competitive of free market, how to customize products, to differentiate services, to increase the customer loyalty and to buildup good brand image are the cores of competition to a company. Based on the result of this study, it purposes company âAâ the short, medium and long term running plan individually. The core of the best marketing strategy always considers the highest guideline âthe needs and benefits of customersâ. ▼ This study investigated the effect of integration of GeoGebra into the teaching of circle geometry on Grade 11 students’ achievement. The study used a quasiexperimental, non-equivalent control group design to compare achievement, Van Hiele levels, and motivation of students receiving instruction using GeoGebra and those instructed with the traditional ‘talk-and-chalk’ method. Two samples of sizes n = 22 (experimental) and n = 25 (control) drawn from two secondary schools in one circuit of the Vhembe district, Limpopo Province in South Africa were used. A pilot study sample of size n = 15, was carried out at different schools in the same circuit, in order to check the reliability and validity of the research instruments, and statistical viability. The results of the pilot study were shown to be reliable, valid and statistically viable. The study was informed by the action, process, object, schema (APOS) and Van Hiele theories, as the joint theoretical framework, and the literature search concentrated on technology integration, especially GeoGebra, in the teaching and learning of mathematics. The literature was also reviewed on the integration of computer technology (ICT) into mathematics teaching and learning, ICT and mathematical achievement, and ICT and motivation. The study sought to answer three research questions which were hypothetically tested for significance. The findings of this study revealed that there was a significant difference in the achievement of students instructed with GeoGebra compared to those instructed with the traditional teaching method (teacher ‘talk-andchalk’). The average achievement of the experimental group was higher than that of the control group. Significant differences were also established on the Van Hiele levels of students instructed with GeoGebra and those instructed without this software at Levels 1 and 2, while there were no significant differences at Levels 3, 4 and 5. The experimental group achieved a higher group average at the visualisation and analysis Van Hiele levels. It was also statistically inferred from questionnaires through chi-square testing, that students instructed with GeoGebra were more motivated to learn circle geometry than those instructed without the software Advisors/Committee Members: Ogbonnaya, Ugorji Iheanachor (advisor).

The purpose of this study was to investigate unaccompanied refugee children's perception of the integration process in Sweden. The study is based on qualitative interviews with six young adults who came to Sweden as unaccompanied refugee child. The results have been analyzed through the theories empowerment, system theory and role theory. The main results show that the key to integration primarily is the ability to speak the Swedish language. The language was also the main obstacle for successful integration the study shows. Furthermore, the results show that the asylum process is perceived as difficult and residence permits are a prerequisite for integration. A warm reception and a strong support are of great importance when arriving in Sweden. Moreover, adaptation to norms, rules and Swedish culture became a natural part of the integration process. The social networking is important for significant well-being. Their expectations have been met and they have been successful in their integration process. They have established themselves in a favorable life situation in Swedish society and are optimistic about their future.

Syftet med vår studie var att undersöka ensamkommande flyktingbarns uppfattning om integrationsprocessen i Sverige. Studien är byggd på kvalitativa intervjuer med sex unga vuxna som kom till Sverige som ensamkommande flyktingbarn. Resultatet har analyserats genom teorierna empowerment, systemteori och rollteori. Huvudresultatet visar att nyckeln till integration främst är att kunna det svenska språket. Språket är också det som främst hindrar en lyckad integration. Resultatet visar att asylprocessen upplevs som svår och uppehållstillstånd är en förutsättning för att kunna integreras. Ett varmt mottagande och ett stort stöd är av stor vikt vid ankomsten till Sverige. Anpassning till normer, regler och den svenska kulturen kom att bli en naturlig del i integrationsprocessen. Det sociala nätverket är viktigt för att främja välbefinnandet. Deras förväntningar har uppfyllts och de har lyckats väl med sin integrationsprocess. De har etablerat sig i en gynnsam livssituation i det svenska samhället och ser positivt på sin framtid.

Sveriges regering har tagit fram en integrationsproposition som har syftat till att arbeta från ett invandrarperspektiv- till ett integrationsperspektiv. Propositionen har sin utgångspunkt i det mångkulturella Sverige om vuxit fram, och därmed ämnat hitta verktyg och faktorer viktiga i en integrationsprocess. Studien har haft för syfte att undersöka flyktingars subjektiva integration i Kristianstads kommun. Studiens avsikt har varit, att genom kvalitativa intervjuer, identifiera faktorer som fördelaktiga- men även svåra i informanternas subjektiva integrationsprocess. Studien använder sig av Känsla av sammanhang och ett systemteoretiskt perspektiv som teoretiska utgångspunkter. Teorierna används i analysen, som en möjlig förståelse för de faktorer informanterna lyfter fram gällande den subjektiva integrationen. Resultatet för studien är att indikatorer för studiens informanters integration är; delaktighet, utanförskap och livschans. Det är samlade begrepp de har kopplat till sin egen integration. Känsla av sammanhang används sedan som en förståelse för informanterna, där den individuella upplevelsen av en känsla av sammanhang kan användas som en uppfattning för minoritetsgruppen. Det systemteoretiska perspektivet har använts för att se integration inte enbart som flyktingarnas egen process utan mer som ett sätt att se och förstå samhällssystemen i sig. Systemen i samhället kan verka främjande för alla individer om systemen är interaktiva och öppna. Integration sätts därmed i ett annat perspektiv, än den så vanliga diskursiva problematiken; ”vi-och-dem”. Integration är en ömsesidig process, och bör eftersträvas av samtliga befolkningsgrupper i samhället, och ansvar bör därmed inte enkom läggas på de som ska integreras.

The Government of Sweden has developed an integration proposal that aimed to work from an immigrant perspective- to an integration perspective. This proposal has its origins in the multicultural Sweden that has emerged, and thus find the tools and factors important in an integration process. The study had the purpose to investigate refugees subjective integration in Kristianstad. The study's intent was, through interviews, to identify factors that could work as a advantageously- but also difficulty in the informants' subjective process of integration. The theoretical basis of the study is SOC and the system theoretical perspective. The theories used in the analysis, as a possible understanding of the factors that the informants highlighted in their current subjective integration. The conclusion of the study is that the indicators for the study's informants integration are; participation, exclusion and lifechance. It is the overall concept they have linked to their own integration. SOC is then used as an understanding of the context in which the individual experience of a sense of coherence can be used as a perception of this minority group. ▼ Ostracism is a subtle communicative phenomenon that leaves others feeling ignored, rejected, and left out. Through acts of ostracism, we create the human, alone: the marginalized, stigmatized, and rejected other. Ostracism is a form of social rejection less visible than bullying and harassment, but deeply painful. Ostracism during adolescence can be particularly devastating because of the strong need for group belonging in childhood. Intellectually gifted adolescent might experience additional challenges to peer acceptance due to their advanced intellect and asynchronous development. The current dissertation project takes a social construction perspective to investigate intellectually gifted adolescents’ experiences of ostracism and social exclusion. I invited 45 gifted adolescents, ages 10-18, to keep an electronic journal for at least a month about their experiences as targets, sources, and observers of ostracism. I used the theoretical frameworks of coordinated management of meaning and problematic integration theory to provide scaffolding for a model of ostracism. In Chapter Three, I discuss the dual privileged and marginalized status of my participants. In Chapter Four, I discuss six social objectives of ostracism: ostracism is used to defer dealing with difference, (re)produces power, punish others for transgressions, define our groups, protect us from harm, and avoid awkward interactions. In chapter Five, I describe ostracism processes. Micro-level processes include passive, active, and aggressive ostracism acts –utterances at one moment in time that communicate exile. Meso-level processes involve ostracism practices –patterns of interaction resulting in ostracism. These include total ostracism practices where the target of ostracism is completely ignored, partial ostracism with additional rejection (POR) practices where the target sometimes is ignored and sometimes bullied, and partial ostracism with inclusion (POI) practices where the target sometimes is ignored and sometimes included. Macro-level processes include ostracism episodes –habituated ostracism routines. These fall on a continuum from ritualistic ostracism episodes –well-known and rehearsed routines, to enigmatic ostracism episodes –improvised and ambiguous routines. In Chapter Six, I discuss participants’ coping strategies for surviving ostracism, including cognitive and behavioral responses, acceptance and resistance responses, and anti-social and pro-social responses. Additionally, I describe the transformative potential ostracism held for some participants as it helped them to find motivation, gain deeper insights, recognize alternate possibilities, find radical freedom, and accept themselves. Finally, in Chapter Seven, I discuss the study’s impact on participants and implications of findings. Advisors/Committee Members: Babrow, Austin (Committee Chair).

▼ Abstract In order to understand whether the public improves their faith in justice after 15-year reforms, and whether the result of verdict meets the expectations of the public, this research regards the sentences from the Judge as a decision-making to discuss whether there is any difference in the integration models of sentencing factors and seriousness among the role in the Court. The research analyzes the functions of justice from the viewpoints of Integrated Reference Framework for Public Affairs Management (PAM), and anatomizes the phenomena presenting by Society Develop Matrix (SDM) in every development stage. The research adopts the experimental methods of Information Integration Theory (IIT), and divides the subjects into five roles: Judges, Prosecutors, Lawyers, Inmates and the General Public. The research selects the subjects from Kaohsiung, Tainan and Pingtung, and offers the two cases of âTrafficâ and âWaste Disposalâ to acquire the integration modes of âthe Damage from Criminalâ and âthe Attitudes after committing crimes â in the measurement of punishment. Here are the research findings: 1. Individual subject from the five roles mostly uses âEqual-Weight Averaging Modelâ to combine the two factors of the damages from committing crimes and the attitudes after committing crimes. 2. The types of case influence sentences and the waste disposal cases are obviously much more serious than the traffic cases. 3. The order of cases has no influence on sentences. 4. There is no significant difference in penalty measurement in traffic court cases among the five roles. However, there are significant variations in waste disposal cases, especially between the attorneys and the general public, while the attorneys expect lighter penalty measurement than the general public. 5. After the justice reformation, there have been slight differences in cognitive models of sentences. ▼ The failure of mergers and acquisitions has been blamed on cultural differences between companies. The successful integration of acquired employees is one piece that is needed for a successful merger or acquisition. However, integration success has not been clearly defined in the literature nor has a theory of integration been empirically tested. There is also a need for new techniques to evaluate the success of mergers and acquisitions. In this study, integration success was defined in reference to an acquisition. CFA and IRT ME/I techniques were utilized to determine whether management and non-management employees in the acquiring and acquired companies differed in their perception of the workplace environment and company policies. Comments were qualitatively analyzed to strengthen findings from the quantitative analyses. Findings indicated that management and non-management employees in the acquiring and acquired companies perceive the workplace environment and company policies differently. Management employees tended to be more satisfied than non-management employees, and acquiring employees tended to be more satisfied than acquired employees. Overall, acquired management and non-management employees differed on fewer items than management and non-management employees from the acquiring company. Acquiring and acquired management as well as acquiring and acquired non-management were more similar than management and non-management employees in either the acquiring or acquired company. Perceptions of one’s workplace environment and company policies predicted employee perceptions of integration success. This relationship was further moderated by job position (management vs. non-management). Acquired management employees demonstrated the greatest difficulty with the integration process. Qualitative results revealed four themes that were also evidenced in the survey results. These themes centered on workplace interactions, integration, company tools, and workplace culture. Acquired employees were more optimistic about the new company once the integration was complete than acquiring employees. The integration process needs to address the specific concerns of employees dependent on their level within the company instead of assuming that all employees react the same. Further investigations into an empirically founded theory of integration need to be pursued. Finally, CFA and IRT techniques are new to the mergers and acquisitions literature and can assist in the development of innovative research.

▼ The current study aimed to apply the Bayesian cue integration paradigm to examine spatial cue interaction in human navigation. Participants completed a triangle completion task either in an immersive virtual environment using self-motion cues and visual landmarks (Experiments 1 to 3) or on a 2D desktop virtual display using proximal and distal landmarks (Experiment 4). Experiments 1A and 1B extended previous studies by experimentally manipulating cue reliability of self-motion cues and visual cues independently and within-subjects. Results showed that participants integrated these two cue types optimally in a Bayesian manner overall, but at the cost of being sub-optimal at individual reliability levels of the manipulated cue. Experiment 2 was designed to mislead participants about cue reliability by providing distorted feedback. Cue relative reliability was changed by the feedback, and the direction of change depended on how the feedback was distorted. Despite changes in cue reliability, Bayesian principles mostly held true, but an additional hysteresis assumption was needed to fully explain the results. Experiment 3 aimed to incorporate landmark instability into the paradigm. The results were directionally consistent with the hypothesis that cue instability affected cue weights indirectly by influencing cue reliability. In all three of these experiments, we observed positive correlations across participants between actual weights assigned to the cues and Bayesian weights, demonstrating that the cue weighting process in general followed Bayesian principles when self-motion cues and visual cues were concerned. Experiment 4 represents our efforts to accommodate the paradigm to a 2-dimensional virtual display on desktop computer in order to examine the interaction between different visual cues. We examined proximal and distal landmarks, whose interaction largely deviated from Bayesian principles. Together, the findings from our 5 experiments help us to gain a deeper understanding of how spatial cues interact during the process of spatial navigation. Our findings not only help clarify some critical issues in the spatial navigation domain but also impose more questions for future investigation. Advisors/Committee Members: Gordon D. ▼ This study assesses the potential for housing to attain socio-spatial integration in the post-1994 urban communities. Urban communities in South Africa have a history of segregation enforced through policy and legislation during the apartheid rule. Housing was used effectively as a tool to enforce urban spatial segregation through separate locations, urban restrictions, dispossessions and so forth. In the post-1994 period, housing continued to be utilised in driving further urban residential segregations through private housing developments promoting gated enclaves. Post-apartheid urban communities continue to reflect patterns of segregation. The study argues that class inequalities have maintained urban fragmentation and suppressed the role of housing in achieving socio-spatial integration. Neoliberal urbanism is used to understand class domination and the maintenance of hegemony which has appeared to be a fundamental root cause for persistent urban exclusion. Neoliberal urbanism seeks to enlarge the role of market forces in the housing sector, to privatise the provision of urban and social services, and to increase the role of elites in shaping the urban landscapes. The neoliberal urbanism ideology asserts that the city is envisaged as a playing field for the elites, whereby growing socioeconomic inequalities are managed by creating privatised, customised and networked spaces for consumption by urban elites. The study uses a case of Shaka’s Head, a socially mixed urban neighbourhood in Ballito, KwaDukuza Municipality. A qualitative approach was used for research methodology and design. In-depth interviews were conducted with government officials, the civic movement, low and high-income sections of the study area. Research findings show that in Shaka’s Head, there has been a noticeable but limited role of housing to achieve socio-spatial integration. Through housing location, it was possible to attain a multi-class urban neighbourhood, which is strategically located closer to economic opportunities. However, there has been an inability of social groups to create social relations and share in the local economy. The study concludes that, while housing has a potential to attain spatial integration, socially mixed neighbourhoods have remained socially fragmented. In achieving socio-spatial integration, the study recommends for institutional integration, effective participation, development of quality infrastructure and improved security. Egzistencinis socialinio darbo modelis yra svarbus, įtakingas ir reikšmingas šiuolaikiniam socialiniam darbui. Kai kurių teoretikų nuomone, jis iki šiol nėra deramai išvystytas ir pritaikytas praktikai, nežiūrint to, kad jo principai ir teiginiai yra aktualūs socialiniame darbe. Dėl šio fakto yra būtina tirti egzistencinio modelio privalumus praktinėje profesinėje veikloje, jo integracijos su kitais modeliais galimybes, taip pat nustatyti jo taikymo trūkumus ir apribojimus. Tyrimo tikslas – išsiaiškinti ir įvertinti egzistencinio modelio taikymo perspektyvą šiuolaikinių socialinio darbo modelių kontekste. Tyrimo metodu buvo pasirinktas kokybinis lyginamosios turinio analizės metodas. Egzistencinis modelis buvo lyginamas su bihevioristiniu ir sistemų teorijos socialinio darbo modeliais pagal išskirtas kategorijas. Tyrimo rezultatai parodė, kad egzistencinis modelis išsiskiria savo filosofiniu pagrindu, kuris nulemia šiuos nepanašumus ir netgi prieštaravimus su kitais dviem modeliais: žmogaus sampratą, kliento bruožai, esminės problemų priežastys, intervencijos tikslas, pokyčio kliento gyvenime traktavimas. Įvertinus egzistencinio modelio integravimo su kitais dviem modeliais galimybes, išaiškėjo, kad integravęs į savo teorinę bei praktinę konstrukciją sistemų teorijos probleminės situacijos įvykių analizės ir bihevioristinio modelio intervencijos metodus bei technikas, egzistencinis modelis tik laimėtų, praturtintų ir praplėstų savo teorinę ir praktinę dalis. Existential model of social work is important, weighty and significant for contemporary social work. Though some theorists point out that in spite of the relevance of the existential model it is not developed well and not fit to social work practice. Therefore it is necessary to search and analyse the advantages of the model and potentiality of integration with another models of social work as well as to identify the weaknesses. The aim of the research is to evaluate the perspective of the existential model in the context of contemporary models of social work. The method of the research is qualitative comparative content analysis. The existential model is to be compared with behavioural and system theory models according to the given categories. The results of the research show that the most obvious different between observed models is the philosophical background of the existential model. This background set even inconsistency in definition of such categories as conception of human, description of client, main aim of intervention and interpretation of changes in client’s situation. ▼ Background: Nursing as a profession is based on firm knowledge, values, clinical skills and attitudes. In the current dynamic healthcare systems, all nurses are challenged to be insightful and have robust clinical reasoning and psychomotor skills in order to integrate theory into practice. Therefore, they need to be accountable in ensuring that they perform optimally to meet the extensive demands of clinical settings. Theory-practice integration is a major element that sustains quality and drives best nursing practice. One of the barriers to theory-practice integration is the gap between theory and practice in nursing education. Therefore, if sound theory is the basis for understanding the reality of the clinical setting, then every effort should be made to reduce the gap between theory and practice. Aim: The aim of the study was to explore and describe the challenges experienced by second and third-year nursing students when integrating theory into practice in a selected clinical setting in the Western Cape. Method: A qualitative approach, using an explorative, descriptive and contextual design, was employed. The target population of the study was the second and third-year nursing students who were registered for the Bachelor of Nursing Degree in the academic year of 2016. The selected non probability sample comprised of 14 participants. Data were collected using semi-structured focus group interviews, with an interview guide and probing to gain detailed information during the process of data collection. Interviews were audio recorded to ensure that no information would be lost and the researcher could review it when necessary. The content analysis method was used to analyse the data. Permission to conduct the study using the nursing students was obtained from the registrar of the University of the Western Cape and the HOD of Son. The research ethics committee granted ethics approval related to the study. All participants were involved in the study on a voluntary basis. Informed consent and focus group confidentiality binding forms were completed by participants to ensure confidentiality. Results: Four themes emerged from the findings namely: Theory verses practice, lack of role models, inadequate support structures and communication. The study highlighted that nursing students still experience a challenge with integrating theory into practice in the clinical settings. In addition the study highlighted that clinical guidance from the preceptors a crucial role in the professional development of students. The results of the study also showed that a new structure of facilitating nursing students in clinical settings must be in place. This structure should include proper orientation and supervision of the nursing students. The preceptors who facilitate clinical guidance must be equipped with the necessary knowledge and skills to ensure that they are able to facilitate and monitor the competence of the nursing students. ▼ This thesis is a multidisciplinary analysis of Arab regional integration using the neo- functionalist and transactionalist approaches to integration. Neo-functionalism analyses the process of integration in the Arab World by studying the role of regional institutions including the league of Arab States and three Arab joint ventures. The transactionalist approach examines the impact of regional trade on political and economic integration in the Arab Mashreq. The analysis of the Arab joint ventures is taken further by using elements of business and finance theories. It is conducted on two different levels: the first analyses the operational and financial performance of these ventures. The second examines their role in promoting regional integration especially in the sectors concerned. The analysis is intended to find out whether these ventures were commercially viable or were more politically inspired. Qualitative information was collected from conducting constructive interviews with Arab economists, politicians and managers of the Arab joint ventures examined. The quantitative data was collected from recognisable resources including the Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia and the Arab Monetary Fund. The problems encountered in this thesis resulted from the application of these theoretical approaches to integration, which are designed to study integration in politically developed societies with more advanced economies. However, the choice is justified since there are no alternatives. Secondly, the data on trade and Arab joint ventures may not be completely accurate since it does not record all transactions. The thesis concludes the following: at the political level, regional institutions did not promote Arab integration since they lacked aspects of supranationality and collective decision-making processes. Also, they did not affect the Arab elite's attitudes and could not initiate a viable process of integration that would spill over from one sector to another. At the economic level, the low level of regional trade in the Arab Mashreq did not prevent the occurrence of many attempts at Arab integration. Moreover, the Arab joint ventures were more politically inspired than commercially. Although they were more resilient to economic and political instability in the Arab World, their role in promoting regional integration was limited.
