This Ph.D dissertation deals with "Off-line" detection of change points on parameters of time series of independent random variables, and in the Hurst parameter of multifrcational Brownian motion. It consists of three articles. In the first paper, published in Sequential Analysis, we set the cornerstones of the Filtered Derivative with p-Value method for the detection of change point on parameters of independent random variables. This method has linear time and memory complexities, with respect to the size of the series. It consists of two steps. The first step is based on Filtered Derivative method which detects the right change points as well as the false ones. We improve the Filtered…

▼ The mechanism of freak wave is not clear. Previous studies have suggested the following mechanisms: typhoon weather system, wave groupiness, nonlinear evolution, northeast monsoon, and local topography. There are two research methods for freak wave studies. The first is based on statistics of measured data, and the second is numerical simulation based on mathematical models. In this study, the statistical approach is applied on field measurements at Hualien, Suao and Keelung.
The analysis shows the significant wave height Hs at Hualien is as large as 0.52 m, while that at Keelung is only 0.21 m. The significant wave period based on the definition of Nair et al. is larger than the result of traditional method by 2 s for all three stations. Usually, the probabilities of freak wave based on either
zero up-
crossing or
zero down-
crossing are very close, and the probability for freak waves higher than 1 m is higher during a typhoon. In Keelung, however, the probability for freak waves higher than 1 m in typhoon is only 90% of the long term average, and the freak wave probability calculated by
zero up-
crossing is twice as that obtained by
zero down-
crossing.
Zero up-
crossing also gives larger probability, 1.8 times of that by
zero down-
crossing, in Hualien if significant wave height is small while significant wave period is large.
Further analyses have been done by dividing field data into groups of different significant wave height, groupiness factor, and run length. Freak wave probability at Keelung has its maximum if significant wave height is between 1 m and 1.5 m, while the peak probability value at Hualien occurs at 1.5 m<Hs <2 m, and that at Suao occurs at 2 m<Hs <2.5 m. At all three stations, freak wave probability increase with the groupiness factor. At both Hualien and Suao, the number of freak wave incidences has its maximum when the run length is three, but most incidences occurred in Keelung when the run length is five.

▼ In studying the interaction between the EEG response and language proficiency, most of pervious work address this problem from the prospective of semantic and syntactic processing. The EEG response in listening comprehension test has rarely been investigated.
With Cz as the reference, this work uses electro-cap to measure 14 channels of EEG signals including channels from frontal (Fp1, Fp2, F3, F4, F7, F8 ), parietal (P3, P4), occipital (O1, O2) and temporal regions (T3, T4, T5, T6). The test subjects include 17 right hand dominant individuals (16 men and 1 woman, age 22-48). Each
subject was asked to answer 60 TOEIC listening comprehension test part II questions via our answering interface (programing by LabVIEW). By recording the time instant that the test subjects pressing the answering button, the entire period of every question is divided into before-answering and after answering-periods.
The aim of this work is to distinguish the EEG responses associated with correctly and incorrectly answered questions by using features of mean correlation (MC),
zero crossing numbers (ZCN) and power spectrum density (PSD) of the EEG signals obtained from the before-answering, after answering and entire periods.
Our findings can be summarized as follows: (1) Correct-answered EEG response has significantly larger (p-value < 0.05) Ï band (12-15 Hz) relative PSD than that of the incorrectly-answered EEG response in channels Fp1, Fp2, F3, F4, F7, F8, P3 for the before-answering and entire periods. (2) The change of θband (12-15 Hz) relative PSD from the before-answering to the after-answering periods are significantly larger for the incorrectly-answered EEG response. (3) The number of
zero crossing points of the frontal and temporal regions tend to decrease after falsely answering the questions. However, the difference is not statistically significant. (4) Many pairs of EEG channels exhibit moderate (r > 0.5) or higher Mean Correlation. Among the tested channels, the T5 channel has the largest Mean Correlation values.

Engenharia Biomédica
The neurodegenerative disease, Parkinson’s Disease (PD) constitutes a major health
problem in the modern world, and its impact on public health and society is expected
to increase with the ongoing ageing of the human population. This disease is characterized by motor and non-motor manifestations that are progressive and ultimately refractory to therapeutic interventions. The degeneration of dopaminergic neurons emanating from the substantia nigra is largely responsible for the motor manifestations. Thus, understanding
the behaviour related to this disease is an added value for the diagnosis and treatment of PD. Also, in vivo models are essential tools for deciphering the molecular
mechanisms underpinning the neurodegenerative process. Zebrafish has several features that make this species a good candidate to study PD. In particular, the occurrence of behavioural phenotypes of treated animals with neurotoxin drugs that mimic the disease has been investigated. And, an electric biosensor, Marine On-line Biomonitor System (MOBS) is being used for the real-time quantification of such behaviour. This equipment allows quantifying the fish movements through signal processing algorithms.
Specifically, the algorithm is used for the evaluation of fish locomotion detected by a series of bursts in the domain of MOBS that correspond to the zebrafish tail-flip activity.
In this thesis we proceeded to the development of an algorithm affording a electrical signal discrimination between "healthy" and "ill" zebrafish and consequently improving the detection of parkinsonism-like phenotypes in zebrafish. The first approach was the improvement of the existent algorithm. However, the first analysis failed to distinguish between different behavioural phenotypes when fish were treated with the neurotoxin
6-hydroxydopamine (6-OHDA). Consequently, we generated a new algorithm based on
Machine Learning techniques. As a result, the novel algorithm provided a classification
over the health condition of the fish, if the same is "healthy" or "ill" with its respective probability and the level of activity of the fish in number of tail-flips per minute. The method Support Vector Machine (SVM)was useful for the classification of the fish events. The zero crossing rate parameter was used for the characterization of the swimming activities.
The algorithm was also integrated in the platform Open Signals, and for a faster
evaluation of the signals, the algorithm implementation included parallel programming
methods. This algorithm is a useful tool to study behaviour in zebrafish. Not only it will allow a more realistic study over the PD research area but also test and assess new drugs that use zebrafish as animal model.

▼ The term Voice Activity Detector (VAD) refers to a class of signal processing methods that detects if short segments of a speech signal contain voiced or unvoiced signal data. A VAD is normally using decision rules based on selected estimated signal features. VADs play a major role as a preprocessing block in a variety of speech processing applications such as speech enhancement, speech coding and speech recognition where it is desirable to classify voiced signal parts from unvoiced. This thesis presents a thorough investigation of modern VAD algorithms that are based on energy threshold, zero crossing and other statistical measures. The selected VAD algorithms are implemented in MATLAB and evaluated using objective parameters in different noise environments. The simulation results indicate that the selected methods produce favorable results in the noise environments with SNR above 5dB. VAD based on pattern recognition approach method proved effective when compared to those based on energy threshold, zero crossing measures and statistical measures.

▼ Displacement estimation in ultrasound is a common yet important task for various applications, including tissue/blood motion estimation, elastography imaging, temperature estimation, and shear wave elasticity imaging. A variety of speckle tracking methods have been proposed for displacement estimation using pulse-echo ultrasound. The performance of these estimators, in terms of bias and variance, could greatly impact the reliability of the imaging markers derived from the initial displacement estimate. Therefore, a comparison between these methods in a variety of imaging scenarios is highly significant. In addition to considering several published displacement estimation methods, this theses introduces a new estimator based on the complex two-dimensional (2D) cross correlation. The approach builds on the 1D complex cross correlation which results from the analytic nature of pulse-echo ultrasound data in medical imaging applications. It is well established that the use of complex cross correlation in 1D displacement tracking allows for sub-sample displacement estimation without the need for interpolation. The complex cross correlation is obtained from the Hilbert transform of the echo data and the sub-sample displacement estimate is obtained by using the zero crossing of the phase in the vicinity of the peak in the correlation amplitude. Recently, this property was extended to 2D by exploiting the coupling between the axial and lateral displacements in the phase of the 2D cross correlation of the analytic ultrasound echo data from multiple A-lines. It was theoretically shown that the maximum magnitude of complex correlation still lies on the zero phase line. The so-called ``Phase-coupled 2D speckle tracking (PCST) algorithm" was the first to extend the analytic nature of ultrasound data to two dimensions. However, this algorithm applies geometric methods to finding the sub-sample displacements, which may hinder its efficient real-time implementation. The main contribution of this thesis is the introduction of a new displacement estimator with sub-sample accuracy in both axial and lateral dimensions. A two-dimensional (2D) zero phase crossing method is derived based on two 2D complex normalized cross correlations (NCCs), i.e., displacement can be estimated by the intersection point of two zero phase lines, one from Hilbert transformation in the axial direction and the other one from Hilbert transformation in the lateral direction. Unlike the 2D PCST, the proposed algorithm lends itself to efficient implementation. Furthermore, comparison of simulation results from flow experiments suggests that the new algorithm produces more accurate estimation in terms of variance. The proposed algorithm was compared with the 2D PCST and other displacement estimators proposed by other groups. In particular, we have compared the performance with algorithms based on parabolic and cosine fitting of the 2D correlation of raw 2D radiofrequency (RF) data. In addition to the validation studies based on simulation, experimental validation…

▼ We consider real
zero-
crossing analysis of the real/imaginary parts of the spectrum, namely, spectral
zero-crossings (SZCs). The two major contributions are to show that: (i) SZCs provide enable temporal localization of transients; and (b) SZCs are suitable for modeling transient signals. We develop a spectral dual of Kedem’s result linking temporal
zero-
crossing rate (ZCR) to the spectral centroid. The key requirement is stationarity, which we achieve through random-phase modulations of the time-domain signal. Transient signals are not amenable to modelling in the time domain since they are bursts of energy localized in time and lack structure. We show that the spectrum of transient signals have a rich modulation structure, which leads to an amplitude-modulation – frequency-modulation (AM-FM) model of the spectrum.
We generalize Kedem’s arc-cosine formula for lags greater than one. For the specific case of a sinusoid in white Gaussian noise, He and Kedem devised an iterative filtering algorithm, which leads to a contraction mapping. An autoregressive filter of order one is employed and the location of the pole is the parameter that is updated based on the filtered output. We use the higher-order property, which relates the autocorrelation to the expected ZCR of the filtered process, between lagged ZCR and higher-lag autocorrelation to develop an iterative higher-order autoregressive-filtering scheme, which stabilizes the ZCR and consequently provides robust estimates of the autocorrelation at higher lags.
Next, we investigate ZC properties of critically sampled outputs of a maximally decimated M-channel power complementary analysis filterbank (PCAF) and derive the relationship between the ZCR of the input Gaussian process at lags that are integer multiples of M in terms of the subband ZCRs. Based on this result, we propose a robust autocorrelation estimator for a signal consisting of a sum of sinusoids of fixed amplitudes and uniformly distributed random phases. Robust subband ZCRs are obtained through iterative filtering and the subband variances are estimated using the method-of-moments estimator. We compare the performance of the proposed estimator with the sample auto-correlation estimate in terms of bias, variance, and mean-squared error, and show through simulations that the performance of the proposed estimator is better than the sample auto- correlation for medium to low SNR.
We then consider the ZC statistics of the real/imaginary parts of the discrete Fourier spectrum. We introduce the notion of the spectral
zero-
crossing rate (SZCR) and show that, for transients, it gives information regarding the location of the transient. We also demonstrate the utility of SZCR to estimate interaural time delay between the left and right head-related impulse responses. The accuracy of interaural time delay plays a vital role in binaural synthesis and a comparison of the performance of the SZCR estimates with that of the cross-correlation estimates illustrate that spectral zeros alone contain enough information for…

▼ Polysomnography (PSG) is considered the gold standard in the diagnosis of sleep disordered breathing. However, compared with the single channel EEG sensor, PSG is difficult to operate, expensive and not suitable for home use. However, with fewer number of signals, the single channel senor provides much less information than PSG. Hence, extracting sufficient information from a single channel signal is a very important task.
Considering the fact that insomnia is the most prevalent sleep disorder, this thesis is aimed to develop algorithms to distinguish insomnia patients form normal people via single channel forehead signal. In specific, we use three different approaches to analyze the forehead signal during sleep in order to identify features that have significantly different values between insomnia patients and normal people. The first method uses the
zero crossing point interval to characterize the speed of the signal. The second method uses the continuous wavelet transform (CWT) to generate a series of features to assess the time-frequency domain properties of the signal. The third method uses the multiscale entropy criterion to quantify the complexity of the signal. In addition to comparing the value of the features, we also used the percentile rank of these features. By using the Wilcoxon's rank-sum test to find out which of these features have significantly different median values in the two groups, 23 features were selected to classify insomnia patients from normal people by using Quadratic Discriminant Analysis (QDA).
Selected from these 23 features, we tested many pairs of features. The best classification result was obtained by the combination of the
zero crossing point interval and a CWT feature. The best classification accuracy is 97.8%. Additionally, we have identified 50 different feature pairs that can achieve classification accuracy of 90% or higher.
According to these promising classification results, our algorithm has the potential to effectively distinguish insomnia patients from normal people. With the simplicity of single channel measurement requirement, the proposed approach is ideal for home use. As a result, the proposed method has the potential to become a home-based insomnia screening tool.

▼ The quality of electric power has been a constant topic of study, mainly because inherent problems to it can bring great economic losses in industrial processes. Among the factors that affect power quality, those related to transients originated from capacitor bank switching in the primary distribution systems must be highlighted. In this thesis, the characteristics of the transients resulting from the switching of utility capacitor banks are analyzed, as well as factors that influence there intensities. A practical application of synchronous closing to reduce capacitor bank switching transients is presented. A model that represents a real distribution system 12.47kV from Shelbyville sub-station was built and simulated using MATLAB/SIMULINK software for purposes of this study. A spectral analysis of voltage and current waves is made to extract the acceptable capacitor switching times by observing the transient over-voltages and, harmonic components. An algorithm is developed for practical implementation of zero-crossing technique by taking the results obtained from the SIMULINK model.

▼ Tax increment financing (TIF) policy is the most popular economic development policy in the United States. Despite the popularity of research on TIF, only a few comprehensive reviews of previous studies on TIF policy tool have been conducted. In light of this, the purpose of this paper is to review previous TIF studies relating to the controversy surrounding TIF programs. Specifically, previous studies do not provide clear answers about the efficacy of TIF and, indeed, raise more questions than answers. At the same time, this situation begs the question: why do local governments frequently use economic development policies? This is the most urgent task in the economic development academic area because previous studies have not answered that question in detail. To analyze the effects of competition and the forms of government on the utilization of business incentives at the local government level, this study focuses on two major incentives: tax credit and tax increment financing. The statistical results show that the competition mechanisms operate differently for each of the incentives. More specifically, the council-manager system considerably constrains the overall adoption and extent of use of business incentives. These results could indicate the prevalence of a particular form of government for economic development policies. To determine why local governments often use tax-based incentives, this study focuses on five major tax-based incentives: job creation tax credits, investment tax credits, R&D credits, property tax abatements, and customized job training subsidies. The statistical results indicate that a state government’s prevailing political ideology influences the choice of economic development activities. Accordingly, a more liberal state may be more likely to discourage property tax abatements and customized job-training subsidies and encourage job creation tax credits. Additionally, the competition mechanism does not operate as a trigger for tax-based incentives. This study also finds that state economic conditions are inversely related to the use of incentives. This result could imply the prevalence of political factors in the use of incentives. Clear evidence about the effectiveness of economic development incentives is limited. To bridge this research gap, this study uses the Upjohn Institute Panel Database on Incentives and Taxes (PDIT). Unemployment and employment rates are used to analyze the effectiveness of tax-based incentives. Statistical results indicate that tax incentives have a marginal impact on employment status and limited benefits to states. Only the R&D tax credit statistically significantly increases employment rates. This result supports the interpretation of economic development policies as a zero-sum game

▼ In this project, two kinds of induction motor faults, stator short circuit fault and broken rotor bar fault, are investigated by using motor current signature analysis (MCSA) and
zero crossing time (ZCT) method. These methods are based on the detection of sidebands around the supply frequency in the stator current signal. The thesis starts by a review of these two common faults and two commonly used diagnostic methods. Before the motor stator short circuit faults experiments, baseline analysis is carried out on two same types of healthy motors. Meanwhile, signal processing programs, composed in MATLAB and LABVIEW, are verified to ensure the accurate diagnosis of motor faults. Through a control box, artificial turn to turn fault and phase to phase fault are structured in each test. MCSA and ZCT are utilized to extract broken rotor bar information from recorded stator current signal. Although an induction motor is highly symmetrical, it may still have a detectable signal
component at the fault frequencies due to imperfect manufacture, improper motor installation and so on. The misalignment experiments reveal that improper motor installation could lead to an unexpected frequency peak, which will affect motor fault
diagnosis. Furthermore, manufacture tolerance and working environment could also result in disturbing the motor fault diagnosis. Through both online and offline experiments, MCSA and ZCT methods could detect particular abnormal harmonics related to stator short circuit fault and broken rotor bar fault. Compared with the conventional MCSA method, the ZCT method has the advantage of reduced computational burden.

▼ The smart dust concept is a fairly recent phenomenon to engineering. It assumes monitoring of a real natural environment in which motes or smart dust machines swarm in collective and coordinate information among themselves and/or to a backend control platform. In analog mixed signal field work on such devices is gaining momentum such that it is conceived to be one of the emerging fields in technology, and work was only possible once the technology for fabrication touched the nanoscale regions. Smart dust network involves remote devices connected in a hive sensing burst type datum signals from the environment and relaying information amongst themselves in an energy efficient manner to coordinate an appropriate response to a detected stimulus. The project presumed a RF based communication strategy for coordination amongst the devices through a wireless medium. That is less susceptible to stringent requirements of LOS and a base band processing system that comprised of an environment sensor, an AFE module, an ADC, a DSP and a DAC. Essentially a 10 bit, 2 Mega Hertz MHz pipelined ADC implemented in a STM 65nm technology. The ADC benefits the smart dust device in allowing it to process data in an energy efficient way and also focusing on reduced complexity as itsdesign feature. While it differs in the other ADC of the system by operating at a higher frequency and assuming a different design philosophy assuming a coherent system sensitive to a clock. The thesis work assumes that various features ofenergy harvesting, regulation and power management present in the smart dustmote would enable the system to contain such a diverse ADC. The ADCs output digital datum would be compatible to the rest of the design modules consisting mainly of DSP sections. The ADC novelty is based on the fact that it removes the necessity of employing a high power consuming OpAmp whose design parameters become more complex as technology scales to the nanoscale era and further down. A systematic, bottom up, test driven approach to design is utilized and various behaviours of the system are captured in Cadence design environment with verilogto layout models and MATLAB and Simulink models.

▼ The estimation of the frequency and phase of a complex exponential in additive white Gaussian noise (AWGN) is a fundamental and well-studied problem in signal processing and communications. A variety of approaches to this problem, distinguished primarily by estimation accuracy, computational complexity, and processing latency, have been developed. One class of approaches is based on the Fast Fourier Transform (FFT) due to its connections with the maximum likelihood estimator (MLE) of frequency. This thesis compares several FFT-based approaches to the MLE in terms of their estimation accuracy and computational complexity. While FFT-based frequency estimation tends to be very accurate, the computational complexity of the FFT and the latency associated with performing these computations after the entire signal has been received can be prohibitive in some scenarios. Another class of approaches that addresses some of these shortcomings is based on linear regression of samples of the instantaneous phase of the observation. Linear- regression-based techniques have been shown to be very accurate at moderate to high signal to noise ratios and have the additional benefit of low computational complexity and low latency due to the fact that the processing can be performed as the samples arrive. These techniques, however, typically require the computation of four-quadrant arctangents, which must be approximated to retain low computational complexity. This thesis proposes a new frequency and phase estimator based on simple estimates of the
zero-
crossing times of the observation. An advantage of this approach is that it does not require arctangent calculations. Simulation results show that the
zero-
crossing frequency and phase estimator can provide high estimation accuracy, low computational complexity, and low processing latency, making it suitable for real-time applications. Accordingly, this thesis also presents a real-time implementation of the
zero-
crossing frequency and phase estimator in the context of a time-slotted round-trip carrier synchronization system for distributed beamforming. The experimental results show this approach can outperform a Phase Locked Loop (PLL) implementation of the same distributed beamforming system.

▼ Detection of yield zones using nondestructive testing (NDT) technology for assessing the structural integrity of the existing steel buildings/bridges is extremely important. The average energy over the “effective echoes” (in “good” signal quality) is a robust feature for the yield detection in steel structures. Nevertheless, this average-energy feature extraction requires rigorous manual data-acquisition and human operation. Therefore, in this thesis, we make the first-ever attempt to design a totally-blind and automatic steel-structure yielddetection mechanism, which requires neither the a priori information about the signal nor the human effort in calibration, operation, or data analysis. This new scheme is built upon a robust preprocessor, which involves both blind-signature-signal-extraction and zero-crossingrate thresholding, to identify the starting and terminal time points of each ultrasonic echo. Thus, the new computer-aided system can easily estimate the signal-to-noise ratios and automatically extract the effective echoes to calculate the corresponding average energy. The performance reflected by the receiver-operating characteristic (ROC) curves of the proposed method is very close to that of the conventional human-operating technique. Hence one may save much human effort in the sacrifice of very little detection accuracy by using our proposed new system.
Subjects/Keywords: receiver-operating characteristic (ROC); yield detection; zero crossing rate; a priori signal-to-noise ratio; a posteriori signal-to-noise ratio

▼ In any power system, fault means abnormal flow of current. Insulation breakdown is the cause of fault generation. Different factors can cause the breakdown: Wires drifting together in the wind, Lightning ionizing air, wires with contacts of animals and plants, Salt spray or pollution on insulators. The common type of faults on a three phase system are single line-to-ground (SLG), Line-to-line faults (LL), double line-to-ground (DLG) faults, and balanced three phase faults. And these faults can be symmetrical (balanced) or Unsymmetrical (imbalanced). In this Study, a technique to predict the zero crossing point has been discussed and simulated. Zero crossing point prediction for reliable transmission and distribution plays a significant role. Electrical power control switching works in zero crossing point when a fault occurs. The precision of measuring zero crossing point for syncing power system control and instrumentation requires a thoughtful approach to minimize noise and external signals from the corrupted waveforms A faulted current waveform with estimated faulted phase/s, the technique is capable of identifying the time of zero crossing point. Proper Simulation has been organized on MATLAB R2012a.

▼ In packetized voice communication, speech packets are sometimes lost due to data transmission problems, e.g., signal fading, or interfering users and noise. For the recovery of missing speech packets, different methods are proposed. This thesis analyzes some recovery methods, and four variants of a waveform substitution method used during the objective analysis. This method is based on slow varying speech parameter estimates. These parameters include the short time energy (STE) and the zero crossing (ZC) measure. This technique is implemented in two different ways based on the slow varying parameters. These parameters are stored in the previous packet. If a speech packet is lost, it is recovered by the information stored in the previous packets. Both implementations differ only in the use of the zero crossing information. The short time energy estimation is the same in both implementations. A slight modification is made in these two implementations where the estimated speech parameters are stored in the previous and in future packets in order to recover two consecutive packets. This modification is applied only if the speech signal is already saved at the transmitter because it requires the future packets to store the information of previous packets, i.e., a non-causal solution. However, a causal solution is obtained if the signal is allowed to be delayed by one packet. The speech quality of the reconstructed speech signal is analyzed and compared between the four implementations. The implementation of these methods has been validated by subjectively observing the recovered speech packets, and by considering the improvement of the objective measures mean opinion score (MOS), mean square error (MSE) and signal-to-noise ratio (SNR). The recovery of samples within the packets is also discussed. The recovery of samples within a packet is done by the Fast Fourier Transform (FFT) block code method. The FFT block code method is implemented by an iterative algorithm. This method is validated by subjective observations and improvements in objective measures mean square error (MSE) and signal to noise ratio (SNR). The VAD is also used for the waveform substitution method and in the introduction of channel noise. After subjective observations and objective measures, it is concluded that modified method A provides better performance for the recovery of speech packets and the FFT block code method has been validated for recovering the samples within a packet.
Subjects/Keywords: Slow varying parameters; Short time energy (STE); Zero crossing (ZC) measure; Modified STE methods; FFT block code method; STZR; STZL; Consecutive speech packets.

▼ Saab has an analogue solution which is used to drive small motors in aircrafts. The motor is a brushless DC-motor and uses a resolver and hall sensors to control it. As sensorless control is something that has been expanding and attracting more interest over the last decade, Saab is considering the possibility of using a digital sensorless system depending on its performance on the control compared to their analogue system. There is little documentation of performance for a digital sensorless solution compared to an analogue solution. Therefore the question to be answered in this research is: How is the performance of the digital solution compared to the existing analogue solution? It was answered by finding a complete sensorless system on the market and then compare its performance to a digital system with sensors that resembles the analogue solution. Performance wise, InstaSPIN does not perform as well as EPOS2 which represent the sensorless system respective the system with sensors. InstaSPIN needs a startup sequence, can not run at the same low velocities, has a longer rise time, settling time and greater ripple. An examination of the software should be done before using the disadvantages that was found as a reason for not considering a sensorless system. Especially the startup sequence in the software should be examined as it is InstaSPINs greatest weakness compared to EPOS2.

▼ Steady-state performance of various recursive and non-recursive algorithms are tested in this report according to the test signals given in the IEEE Standard C37.118.1-2011. Phase magnitude and phase angle of the power grid signals have been estimated using Discrete Fourier Transform (non-recursive), Discrete Fourier Transform (recursive), Least Square, and Wavelet Transform Algorithms. Frequency estimation is performed using Discrete Fourier Transform, Weighted Least Square, and
Zero Crossing methods. These algorithms are evaluated in LabView software and tested by generating test signals in a Simulink model. Furthermore, Total Vector Error (TVE) is calculated using dynamic test signals as per the IEEE Standard C37.118-2011. Performance of different algorithms are analyzed for various cases and the value of TVE is compared with the permissible error limits given in the standard.
