Dans le marché mondial fortement concurrentiel, un constructeur automobile doit offrir à ses clients des services innovants, respectueux de l'environnement et sûrs de fonctionnement. Tout cela doit être fait à des coûts très compétitifs tout en respectant des réglementations et des délais de plus en plus stricts. Ces travaux répondent à ces défis et visent à améliorer le processus de conception des systèmes mécatroniques critiques automobile. Ils montrent que l'utilisation de modèles formels et informels peuvent se rapporter à un modèle sémantique commun, i.e., une ontologie système et sécurité, qui permet d'assurer la cohérence du processus de conception tout en respectant la norme ISO 26262. Les concepts de ces travaux ont été appliquées sur un système de freinage régénératif hybride intégré dans un véhicule électrique. L'application a démontré que l'ontologie réalisée permet d'enregistrer l'information produite lors de la conception et que l'utilisation d'ontologies permet effectivement de détecter les incohérences sémantiques ce qui améliore la qualité des informations de conception, favorise la réutilisation et assure la conformité à l'ISO 26262.

In the strongly competitive worldwide market of today, a car manufacturer has to offer to its customersrelevant, innovative, reliable, environment friendly and safe services. All this must be done at verycompetitive costs while complying with more and more stringent regulations and tighter deadlines. Thiswork addresses these challenges and aims at improving the design process for automotive safety criticalmechatronics systems. It shows that the use of formal and informal models can commit to a commonsemantic model, i.e., a system and safety ontology, that enables to ensure the consistency of the wholedesign process and compliance with standard ISO 26262. The concepts in this work have been appliedon a regenerative hybrid braking system integrated into an electrical vehicle. It demonstrated that therealized ontology enables to record the information produced during design and that using ontologieseffectively enables to detect semantic inconsistencies which improves design information quality, promotesreuse and ensures ISO 26262 compliance.

La conception des systèmes embarqués est une tâche complexe. Les ingénieurs sont confrontés à divers contraintes liées à la technologie, au coût,à la complexité et aux contraintes de sécurité. Toutes ces contraintes ont un grand impact sur l’architecture du système et par conséquence sur le coût final. Nous proposons dans cette thèse une approche pour la conception des système et l’optimisation de l’architecture guidée par les contraintes de sécurité et de coût. Elle s’agit d’une approche de synthèse de l’architecture qui prend en compte les contraintes de sécurité dans le contexte du standard ISO 26262. Elle permet, d’une part, d’atteindre une architecture préliminaire du système en choisissant les éléments de l’architecture permettant de réduire le coût global. D’autre part, elle conduit à une allocation des fonctions aux éléments de l’architecture qui respecte les contraintes liées aux niveaux de sécurité et les défaillances de ces éléments. Nous utilisons des algorithmes exhaustive et génétique pour l’exploration de l’espace de conception. En l’appliquant sur un cas d’étude industriel, nous démontrons sa contribution pour parvenir à la conception conforme et sa capacité à réduire les coûts entraîne par les contraintes de sécurité

The embedded system design is a challenging task. The engineers are faced with technological, cost, complexity and safety constraints. These constraints have a big impact on the system architecture and consequently on the final cost. we propose in this thesis an approach for system design and architecture optimization driven by safety and cost constraints. It consists of an architecture synthesis approach that takes into account the safety constraints in the ISO 26262 context. It allows, at one hand, to reach a system preliminary architecture by choosing the architecture elements that reduce the overall cost. On the other hand, it leads to a functions mapping that respects the safety constraints related to the integrity levels and to the dependent failures. We use exhaustive and genetic algorithm for the design space exploration. By applying it on an industrial study-case we demonstrate its contribution in reaching compliant design and its capability in reducing the safety constraints costs.

En raison de la complexité croissante des systèmes automobiles embarqués, la sûreté de fonctionnement est devenue un enjeu majeur de l’industrie automobile. Cet intérêt croissant s’est traduit par la sortie en 2011 de la norme ISO 26262 sur la sécurité fonctionnelle. Les défis auxquelles sont confrontés les acteurs du domaine sont donc les suivants : d’une part, la conception de systèmes sûrs, et d’autre part, la conformité aux exigences de la norme ISO 26262. Notre approche se base sur l’application systématique de l’injection de fautes pour la vérification et la validation des exigences de sécurité, tout au long du cycle de développement, des phases de conception jusqu’à l’implémentation. L’injection de fautes nous permet en particulier de vérifier que les mécanismes de tolérance aux fautes sont efficaces et que les exigences non-fonctionnelles sont respectées. L’injection de faute est une technique de vérification très ancienne. Cependant, son rôle lors de la phase de conception et ses complémentarités avec la validation expérimentale, méritent d’être étudiés. Notre approche s’appuie sur l’application du modèle FARM (Fautes, Activations, Relevés et Mesures) tout au long du processus de développement. Les analyses de sûreté sont le point de départ de notre approche, avec l'identification des mécanismes de tolérance aux fautes et des exigences non-fonctionnelles, et se terminent par la validation de ces mécanismes par les expériences classiques d'injection de fautes. Enfin, nous montrons que notre approche peut être intégrée dans le processus de développement des systèmes embarqués automobiles décrits dans la norme ISO 26262. Les contributions de la thèse sont illustrées sur l’étude de cas d’un système d’éclairage avant d’une automobile.

Due to the rising complexity of automotive Electric/Electronic embedded systems, Functional Safety becomes a main issue in the automotive industry. This issue has been formalized by the introduction of the ISO 26262 standard for functional safety in 2011. The challenges are, on the one hand to design safe systems based on a systematic verification and validation approach, and on the other hand, the fulfilment of the requirements of the ISO 26262 standard. Following ISO 26262 recommendations, our approach, based on fault injection, aims at verifying fault tolerance mechanisms and non-functional requirements at all steps of the development cycle, from early design phases down to implementation. Fault injection is a verification technique that has been investigated for a long time. However, the role of fault injection during design phase and its complementarities with the experimental validation of the target have not been explored. In this work, we investigate a fault injection continuum, from system design validation to experiments on implemented targets. Vid utveckling av tyngre fordon inför man allt fler avancerade funktione. Mycket av denna funktionalitet handlar om att maskiner automatiskt ska utföra uppgifter för att assistera föraren. Detta leder till att nya risker uppstår. Och till följd av detta har man börjat skapa nya funktionella säkerhetsstandarder. ISO 26262 är en ny funktionell säkerhetsstandard som finns för vanliga personbilar men som ännu inte trätt i kraft för lastbilar. I ISO-26262 standarden ska krav kunna mappas till andra krav samt till systemarkitektur. I nuläget finns det vissa verktyg på marknaden som stödjer användaren när den skriver kravspecifikationer. Men undersökningar av verktyg ledde till att vi kommit fram till att alla hade någon brist. Och ingen hade bra stöd för mappning mellan krav och systemarkitektur. I detta examensarbete har arbetet varit att testa implementera funktionalitet för ett verktyg som assisterar användaren på olika sätt när den skriver kravspecifikationer. Baserat på kontraktteori och konceptet om portar som hjälp för att koppla samman krav med systemarkitektur ska applikationen se till att det finns en formell koppling mellan dessa. För att testa och validera att portar går att använda för att testa intressant funktionalitet har också en applikation utvecklats där mycket funktionalitet implementerats. Resultatet har varit lyckat då vi baserat på kontraktteori lyckats implementera och validera att det är möjligt att använda portar för att skapa koppling mellan krav och systemarkitektur, samt mellan krav och krav. Validering av att det valda lagringsformatet JSON också förser implementeraren med nog starkt stöd för att kunna spara dessa krav så att data i filerna kan brytas ner och lagras i temporära databasen Neo4J och på så sätt skapa ett fungerande kretslopp.

When developing new heavy vehicles today demands for increasingly more advanced features are asked for. A lot of the new functionality is about machines performing tasks automatically to assist the driver when driving. This leads to new risks, and as a result a new functional safety standard has been created. ISO 26262 is a functional safety standard that today exists for ordinary cars, but has not yet became a standard for trucks. According to the ISO 26262-standard requirements can be mapped to other requirements as well as to the system architecture. At present there are several tools on the market that supports the user when writing specifications. However, our research of the tools has led us to conclude that all lacked something. For example neither of the tools had good support for mapping between requirements and system architecture. In this thesis work, functionality for a tool which is supposed to support the user in various ways when writing requirements specifications was to be examined. Based on contract theory and the concept of ports that links requirements together with system architecture, an application can ensure that there is a formal link between the two. Rapporten beskriver ett examensarbete som har genomförts hos Scania R&D. Målet har varit att testa om det är möjligt att använda JTAG för kontroll av Ball Grid Array på komponenter som sitter på kretskort. Vanliga mätmetoder kan inte användas med mindre än att man separerar komponenten från kretskortet. Det som framkommer är att JTAG kan användas för att kontrollera Ball Grid Array samtidigt som kretskortet finns i ett så kallat temperaturchockskåp (som används för att testa hur utrustning och komponenter reagerar vid snabba temperaturändringar). Svårigheten består att den flatkabel som för över signaler mellan dator och kretskort är så lång att arrangemanget blir störningskänsligt. Detta kan lösas med en Extender som förstärker signalen så att kabeln kan vara längre än 0,5 meter. Resultat visar att JTAG kan användas med kretskort som befinner sig i temperaturchockskåpet. Målet har även varit att utveckla en kontrollmetod för att kontrollera att det kretskort som levereras till Scania uppfyller kraven i ISO 26262. För att kunna kontrollera om en leverantör uppfyller ISO 26262 behövs dokumentation som verifierar att produkten utvecklats i enlighet med ISO 26262. I ISO standarden finns det tolv delar som beskriver kraven på produkten. I rapporten har fokus lagts på delen som handlar om hårdvara. Ingen kontrollmetod har kunnat utvecklats då ISO standarden var mer omfattade än väntat.

The report describes a degree project that has been completed at Scania R&D. The goal has been to test whether it is possible to use JTAG to control the Ball Grid Array on components that are on circuit boards. Ordinary measurement methods cannot be used unless you separate the component from the circuit board. What emerges is that JTAG can be used to control the Ball Grid Array while the circuit board is in a so-called temperature shock cabinet (which is used to test how equipment and components respond to rapid temperature changes). The difficulty is that the flat cable that transmits signals between computer and circuit board is so long that the arrangement becomes sensitive to interference. This can be solved with an Extender that amplifies the signal so that the cable can be longer than 0.5 meters. Results show that JTAG can be used with circuit boards located in the temperature shock cabinet. The goal has also been to develop a control method to verify that the circuit board supplied to Scania meets the requirements of ISO 26262. To be able to check if a supplier complies with ISO 26262, documentation is required that verifies that the product has been developed in accordance with ISO 26262. The ISO standard there are twelve parts that describe the requirements of the product. The report has focused on the section on hardware. No control method has been developed since the ISO standard was more comprehensive than expected.

The engineering competition Formula Student has introduced a Driverless Vehicle (DV)class, which requires the students to develop a car that can autonomously make its wayaround a cone track. To ensure the safety of such a vehicle, an Emergency Brake System(EBS) is required. The EBS shall ensure transition to safe state for detection of a singlefailure mode. This thesis work covers the design of the EBS for KTH Formula Student(KTH FS).Due to the safety critical character of this system, the software part of the EBS, calledEBS Supervisor, has been analyzed in accordance with the safety standard ISO 26262 tosee if an improved safety could be achieved. The analysis has been perform according toPart 3: Concept phase of ISO 26262 with an item definition, Hazard Analysis and RiskAssessment (HARA), Functional Safety Concept (FSC) and Technical Safety Concept(TSC).The result of the analysis showed that the EBS Supervisor requires extensive redundanciesin order to follow ISO 26262. This includes an additional CPU as well as signal checksof inputs and outputs. Due to limited resources in terms of money and time within theKTH FS team, these redundancies will not be implemented. The process of working withthe safety standard did however inspire an increased safety mindset.

Ingenjörstävlingen Formula Student har introducerat en förarlös tävlingsklass (eng:Driverless Vehicle) som innebär att studenterna ska utveckla en bil som autonomt kan tasig runt en konbana. För att försäkra sig om säkerheten för ett sådant fordon krävs ettnödbromssystem (eng: Emergency Brake System (EBS)). EBS:en skall försäkra att enövergång till ett säkert tillstånd sker då ett singulärt fel upptäcks. Det här examensarbetetbehandlar designen av EBS:en för KTH Formula Student.På grund av den säkerhetskritiska karaktären hos detta system har mjukvarudelen avEBS:en, kallad EBS Supervisor, blivit analyserad utifrån säkerhetsstandarden ISO 26262för att se om en förbättrad säkerhet kunde uppnås. Analysen har blivit genomfördenligt Del 3: Konceptfas av ISO 26262 med item definition, Hazard Analysis and RiskAssessment, Functional Safety Concept och Technical Safety Concept.Resultatet av analysen visade att EBS Supervisor kräver omfattande redundanser föratt uppfylla ISO 26262. Industries have adopted a standardized set of practices for developing their products. In the automotive domain, the provision of safety-compliant systems is guided by ISO 26262, a standard that specifies a set of requirements and recommendations for developing automotive safety-critical systems. For being in compliance with ISO 26262, the safety lifecycle proposed by the standard must be included in the development process of a vehicle. Besides, a safety case that shows that the system is acceptably safe has to be provided. The provision of a safety case implies the execution of a precise documentation process. This process makes sure that the work products are available and traceable. Further, the documentation management is defined in the standard as a mandatory activity and guidelines are proposed/imposed for its elaboration. It would be appropriate to point out that a well-documented safety lifecycle will provide the necessary inputs for the generation of an ISO 26262-compliant safety case. The OSLC (Open Services for Lifecycle Collaboration) standard and the maturing stack of semantic web technologies represent a promising integration platform for enabling semantic interoperability between the tools involved in the safety lifecycle. Tools for requirements, architecture, development management, among others, are expected to interact and shared data with the help of domains specifications created in OSLC.This thesis proposes the creation of an OSLC tool-chain infrastructure for sharing safety-related information, where fragments of safety information can be generated. The steps carried out during the elaboration of this master thesis consist in the identification, representation, and shaping of the RDF resources needed for the creation of a safety case. The focus of the thesis is limited to a tiny portion of the ISO 26262 left-hand side of the V-model, more exactly part 6 clause 8 of the standard: Software unit design and implementation. Regardless of the use of a restricted portion of the standard during the execution of this thesis, the findings can be extended to other parts, and the conclusions can be generalize.This master thesis is considered one of the first steps towards the provision of an OSLC-based and ISO 26262-compliant methodological approach for representing and shaping the work products resulting from the execution of the safety lifecycle, documentation required in the conformation of an ISO-compliant safety case.

Context: ISO 26262 requires compilation of traceable work products across the application lifecycle as product based safety evidence. The compilation of such safety evidence is a time consuming and arduous task. Open Services Lifecycle Collaboration (OSLC) is an initiative that supports traceability through tool interoperability. The meta modelling of the ISO 26262 work products in the structure of Resource Description Framework (RDF) can be used for achieving interoperability. Thus, OSLC services used on the RDF exchanged between interoperating tools aids in an effective way of compiling the product based safety evidence for ISO 26262 safety case. Objectives: Representing the compilation of traceable work product types for the software testing and verification in ISO 26262, in form of a RDF-based conceptual meta-model. Testing and extending the concepts by instantiating the meta-model with work products to be represented in RDF for a case of a truck Electronic Control Unit (ECU) system. Lastly, validating the effectiveness of the conceptual meta-model for its compliance to ISO 26262. Methods: To realise the objectives, a case study was conducted at Scania CV AB, Södertälje, Sweden, a manufacturer of safety critical ECU systems used in heavy automobiles. The case study was conducted in three consecutive cycles. The first cycle of qualitative inductive content analysis of the ISO 26262 standard and its related document at the company for defining the conceptual meta model. The second cycle of qualitative deductive content analysis for testing, extending and refining the conceptual meta model. The last cycle of validating the effectiveness of the tested and extended conceptual meta model for compliance to ISO 26262. Results: The main result was the tested, extended and refined RDF based ISO 26262 conceptual meta model depicting traceable work product types for software testing and verification of a safety critical ECU system. The testing and extending of the conceptual meta model was performed with respect to the Main1 (M1) ECU system at Scania. The RDF was defined for the work products of M1 ECU system. Finally, the conceptual meta model was validated for its effectiveness in realising the criteria of abstraction, confirmability and traceability based on ISO 26262. Conclusions: Thus, the RDF-based conceptual meta-model depicting product based safety evidence provides a structure for realising the traceability required for compiling the software testing and verification part of ISO 26262 safety case. The meta model was tested by defining the RDF for the work products of a truck ECU system that would be exchanged for achieving interoperability. Finally, the conceptual meta-model was validated for representing the knowledge required for showing traceable product based safety evidence for ISO 26262 safety case.
