L’IASCC est un mécanisme de fissuration intergranulaire par corrosion sous contrainte (IGCSC) induite par l'irradiation. C’est un phénomène complexe qui peut avoir une influence significative sur le temps et le coût de maintenance des composants internes du coeur des réacteurs à eau pressurisée (REP) et est donc un sujet d'intérêt. Des études récentes ont proposé d'utiliser l'irradiation aux ions (protons) comme une alternative à l'irradiation neutronique afin d’améliorer la compréhension du mécanisme. L'objectif de cette thèse est d’étudier la sensibilité à la fissuration de l’acier austénitique SA 304L irradié aux ions ainsi que les facteurs contribuant à cette fissuration. Deux types d’irradiations aux ions ont été menées (fer et aux protons). Ces deux irradiations ont générées des défauts ponctuels dans la microstructure représentatifs de ceux crées par les neutrons provoquant ainsi le durcissement de l’acier austénitique 304L. Matériel (non irradié et le fer irradié) n'a montré aucune sensibilité à la fissuration intergranulaire sur la soumission à un essai de traction lente SSRT (Slow Strain Rate Test) commencer avec une vitesse de déformation de 5 × 10-8 s-1 jusqu'à 4% de déformation plastique dans un environnement inerte. Il est montré que les deux types d’irradiation aux ions (fer et protons) augmentent la sensibilité à la fissuration intergranulaire du matériau après un essai de SSRT dans un environnement simulé de REP à 340 ° C. La corrélation entre la sensibilité de fissuration et le degré de localisation de la déformation plastique a été étudiée. L’impact de l'irradiation aux ions fer sur l'oxydation du 304L a été aussi étudié grâce à des essais effectués pendant 360 h dans un milieu REP à 340 ° C. Les résultats de cette thèse indiquent que la fissuration intergranulaire de l'acier inoxydable 304L en milieu REP peut être étudiée en utilisant l'irradiation Fe malgré sa faible profondeur de pénétration dans le matériau. Par ailleurs, il est montré que le comportement vis-à-vis de la fissuration est similaire entre une irradiation aux protons et au fer, et ceux malgré une localisation de la déformation moins importante pour ces derniers. Par conséquent, l’irradiation au fer est utilisée pour étudier l'impact de la préparation de surface et des chemins de déformation sur la sensibilité de la fissuration intergranulaire de l’acier 304L.

IASCC is irradiation – assisted enhancement of intergranular stress corrosion cracking susceptibility of austenitic stainless steel. It is a complex degrading phenomenon which can have a significant influence on maintenance time and cost of PWRs’ core internals and hence, is an issue of concern. AA5xxx series Al-Mg alloys with greater than ~3.5% Mg experience an acceleration in fatigue crack growth rate (da/dN) as the level of sensitization increases and fatigue loading frequency (f) decreases when loaded in 3.5 wt% NaCl. AA5xxx series alloys, commonly used in naval applications, are known to exhibit decreased resistance to intergranular corrosion (IGC) and intergranular stress corrosion cracking (IGSCC) due to the formation of the active Al3Mg2-ß phase on grain boundaries. ß phase is metallurgically undesirable and forms on grain boundaries when slightly elevated in-service temperatures are experienced for prolonged periods of time, a phenomenon known as sensitization. Previous studies on AA5083-H131 corrosion fatigue (CF) show that da/dN is accelerated by an order of magnitude in the Paris regime for degrees of sensitization greater than or equal to 30 mg/cm2 at a f of 10 Hz and an R of 0.85, however, practical in-service naval ship fatigue loading occurs at 0.15 Hz and below.The results of this work show that, for sensitization levels examined above 33 mg/cm2, previous high-f results cannot be applied to low-f loading. High resolution fracture mechanics based experiments conducted at constant ¿K and R-ratio under full immersion in 3.5% NaCl show that da/dN for heavily sensitized material is highly f-dependent and increases with decreasing f by as much as three orders of magnitude over the as-received unsensitized condition. The result of this work suggests that high-f (10 Hz) testing severely underestimates da/dN for service-type loading of heavily sensitized material. Specifically, for sensitization levels of 37 mg/cm2 and above, da/dN increases with decreasing f by 2 to 3 orders of magnitude for 0.01 Hz loading over 1 Hz loading. Results from this study can enable advancement of service ship structural life prediction by generating data necessary to inform on safe versus unsafe sensitization levels. I både kvalitets- och kontrollarbete finns det behov att kunskapsmässigt komma så nära verkligheten som möjligt vid fastställande av defektparametrar för oförstörande provning (OFP). Orsaken är att olika acceptanskrav och bedömningsgränser är svåra att klarlägga när man inte kan förlita sig på att uppgifter är realistiska. I projektet har olika erfarenheter använts för att få en bättre helhetsbild i området för defektparametrar och oförstörande provning. Denna rapport redovisar den inledande delen av forskning och utvecklingsprojektet PLANT 2, där olika defektparametrar kartlagts och en teoretisk bedömning utförts med avseende på hur signalsvaret påverkas för OFP-metoderna virvelström (ET) och ultraljudsprovning (UT) i form av puls-eko (PE) och ”time-of-flight-diffraction” (TOFD). Definitionen av redovisade defektparametrar följer i stort SKI-rapport 95:70 [1]. Defektparametrar i denna rapport redovisas i bilaga 1. Vid bedömningen av defektparametrarnas inverkan på OFP-tekniker, har drift¬inducerande defekter och tillverkningsdefekter hanterats separat. För de driftinducerande defekterna delades bedömningen upp i en generell och en specifik bedömning. De defektparametrar som bedöms specifikt och klassats att påverka signalsvaret betydligt bör vara av mest intresse i nästkommande etapp. Följande defektparametrar bedömdes påverka signalsvaret betydligt: • Form i ytan, antal sprickor och avstånd i gatstensmönster (vid termisk ut¬mattning) • Form i djupled • Sprickbredd vid sprickspets och sprickspetsradie För tillverkningsdefekter bedömdes defektparametrarnas form i djupled och geometri påverka signalsvaret betydligt för defekttyperna slagg och bindfel. Vid utvärdering av UT-PE och UT-TOFD teknikerna överensstämde resultatet helt med den teoretiska bedömningen. För ET-tekniken stämde endast en av tre defektparametrar överens med den teoretiska bedömningen.

In quality control of defect parameters for Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) it’s essential to have good knowledge about the defects. The reason is that different acceptance criteria and assessments must be based on defects that correspond to real defects. In this project different experience has been analyzed to get a better overview between defect parameters and non-destructive testing. This report shows the beginning of the research & development project PLANT 2. There are different flaw parameters that have been mapped and a theoretical assessment has been performed with regard to how the signal response is influenced by the NDT techniques eddy current, ultrasonic pulse echo and ultrasonic time-of-flight-diffraction. The definition of the reported flaw parameters does in general follow the one presented in SKI-report 95:70 [1]. The actual flaw parameters in this report are presented in appendix 1.
