Svenska företag har börjat prata om cirkulär ekonomi (CE)som en viktig del inom företagsverksamheter där CE har kommit att ersätta tidigare “praxis” för hållbar utveckling. Flera stora svenska företag däribland H&M och Ikea uttrycker att de vill vara en del i att leda samhällets omställning mot cirkulär ekonomi. Samtidigt bidrar H&M och Ikea till en massproduktion av konsumtionsvaror vilket leder till en förbrukning av stora mängder naturresurser. Denna studie syftar till att genom en fallstudie undersöka hur H&M och Ikea talar om CE i sin verksamhet samt hur H&M och Ikea genomopinionsbildning försöker påverka omställningen mot CE. Textanalystillämpades för att genomföra studien och svara på följande frågeställningar: Vilka argument framför H&M och Ikea kring att en omställning mot CE är nödvändig? Vilka ambitioner uttrycker H&M och Ikea i omställningen mot CE? Vilka strategier framför H&M och Ikea att de tillämpar i omställningen mot CE och vad framför de som utmaningar med arbetet? Hur uttrycker sig H&M och Ikea kring vem som har ansvar att leda omställningen mot CE? Hur uttrycker sig H&M och Ikea som opinionsbildare i omställningen mot CE? Resultatet av studien visar att H&M och Ikea framför hur en fortsatt linjär produktion och konsumtion inte är hållbar där de framför ambitioner om att de vill leda omställningen och vill implementera cirkularitet genom hela deras värdekedjor. Resultatet visar att H&M och Ikea uttrycker strategier gällande förändring av affärsmodeller, designprocesser, ökad återanvändning-och återvinning av material. Vid implementering av CE framför H&M och Ikea utmaningar gällande teknik, samarbete och regleringar. Gällande ansvar framför H&M och Ikea att de åtar sig ett ansvar i omställningen men de poängterar att beslutsfattare behöver ta ett större ansvar i att främja företagsarbete mot en omställning. Resultatet visar också att H&M och Ikea som opinionsbildare uttrycker att de vill påskynda omställningen mot CE.

Swedish companies have begun to talk about CE as an important part of companies' operations where CE has come to replace previous “practices” for sustainable development. Several large Swedish companies, including H&M and Ikea, say that they want to be part of leading society's transition towards a circular economy. At the same time H&M and Ikea constitute a mass production of consumer goods which contributes to the consumption of large amounts of natural resources. This study aims to investigate how H&M and Ikea talk about CE in their operations through a case study and how H&M and Ikea try to influence the transition to CE through opinion formation. Denna studie är skapad för Medie- och kommunikationsvetenskapliga programmet på Karlstad Universitet. Uppsatsen skriven på B-nivå, det vill säga 7,5 högskolepoäng. Syftet med den här uppsatsen är att undersöka och fylla kunskapsluckan kring hur, ur genus- och feministiskt perspektiv, kvinnokroppen framställs av varumärket H&M på kanalen Instagram. Frågeställningen som skapades utifrån dessa premisser blev därmed “På vilket sätt, ur ett genus- och feministiskt perspektiv, porträtterades kvinnokroppen i bilder på H&Ms Instagram under 2019?”. För att undersöka denna frågeställning valdes metoden kvantitativ innehållsanalys. Denna metod frambringar generaliserbara resultat som går att applicera på samtliga enheter i populationen. Materialet som används för denna studie består av 100 analysenheter i form av Instagraminlägg, tagna från H&Ms Instagram den 11 maj 2020. Dessa 100 analysenheter har erhållits genom slumpmässigt obundet urval, där populationen bestod av samtliga inlägg H&M publicerat, under perioden 2019. Kraven för bilderna var att de innehöll minst en kvinna. I de analysenheter som innehöll flera kvinnor analyserades kvinnan placerad längst till vänster. Genom studien visade resultaten att kvinnor genom flertalet undersökta variabler och applicerade feministiska och genusperspektiv, porträtterade kvinnokroppen som undergiven samt objektifierad. En handfull resultat visade på motsatsen, där resultaten antingen talade för motsatsen eller för en mer neutral porträttering. Slutsatsen drogs att kvinnokroppen i H&Ms Instagram under 2019 porträtteras som undergiven och objektifierad, då övervägande resultat pekade på detta.

This study was written at the Media and Communication Studies program at Karlstad University. The thesis is written at B-level, which constitutes 7,5 HP. The purpose of this study is to explore and fill the scientific knowledge gap surrounding the way the female body is portrayed on H&M’s Instagram from a feminist and gender perspective. The research question originated from these premises and is consequently phrased “In which way, from a feminist and gender perspective, was the female body portrayed on H&Ms Instagram during 2019?”. The method quantitative content analysis was chosen to investigate and examine the question at hand. Using this method will enable the possibility to generalize the results and apply them to all units of the chosen population. The material used in this study consists of 100 units in the form of Instagram posts, extracted May 11th, 2020. All 100 units were obtained through the selection method simple random sample (SRS), in which the population consisted of all H&Ms published posts, without exception, during the period of 2019. ▼ Abstract In 2011, the leader of Fast Fashion industry, the Spanish clothing brand Zara, opened the first store in Taiwan, which made a hit in Taiwan Fashion market. And the public widely discussed the termâ fast fashion.â The other brand, the news reported that H& M also planned to enter in Taiwan market also arouse a huge wave of discussion. These two brands, Zara and H& M, are the only two brands ranking in the top 50 of Interbrand, and the founders of two brands are the richest men respectively in Spain and Swiss land. Moreover, the scope of the groups, which these two men respectively founded, are widely spread, and there are thousands of store in every corner of the world. The purpose of this research is to discuss the clothing industry, which people once thought it as declining industry, can be so successful in the case of Zara and H& M. First, the research analyzes the difference of traditional clothing industry and Fast Fashion industry; furthermore, through the analysis of the strategic positioning, business model, competitive advantage, it is able to reveal the successful factors of Fast Fashion industry, and the result hopefully give other clothing companies some recommendation. The fashion is a fad. Speeding up the response to the market and shorten the lead time. 4. The store is not only for selling clothes and also a marketing strategy to attract more customers. 5. Providing less amount but more designing patterns, the above average quality of products and the affordable price to attract more people to buy. ▼ The present thesis examined two general questions regarding neuromuscular electrical stimulation (NMES): 1) How can the delivery of NMES be optimised to enhance synaptic motor unit recruitment via reflex pathways (central pathways) and 2) Can motor unit recruitment through central pathways improve the fatigue-resistance of NMES-evoked contractions in people with chronic motor-complete spinal cord injury (SCI)? To address the first general question, two sets of experiments were conducted with people who were neurologically-intact (Chapters 2 and 3). Information about how motor units were recruited was provided by electromyographic responses evoked during NMES. The first two sets of experiments tested the hypothesis that NMES delivered over the nerve trunk (nNMES) would generate contractions of the plantar flexors (Chapter 2) and knee extensors (Chapter 3) with greater activity through central pathways compared with contractions of equivalent amplitude evoked by NMES delivered over the muscle belly (mNMES). Both hypotheses were confirmed, indicating that nNMES may hold significant advantages over mNMES for rehabilitation, and in particular for generating fatigue-resistant contractions. To address the second general question, two sets of experiments were conducted in people with chronic motor-complete SCI (Chapters 4 and 5). The first set of experiments tested whether contractions of the paralysed plantar flexors evoked by mNMES would fatigue sooner, and to a greater extent, compared with contractions of equivalent amplitude generated by nNMES. This hypothesis was confirmed. However, differences in fatigue-resistance between NMES sites were dependent upon the contribution of central pathways (H-reflexes) during the evoked contractions. When contractions were generated only through successive motor axon activation (M-waves; peripheral pathways), NMES site had no influence on fatigue-resistance. The second set of experiments tested the hypothesis that contractions of the paralysed plantar flexors evoked by nNMES using a short pulse duration (50 µs) would fatigue sooner, and to a greater extent, compared with contractions of equivalent amplitude evoked by nNMES using a long pulse duration (1000 µs). Data collection for this project continues, however initial data support our hypothesis. In conclusion, activity through central pathways is dependent upon NMES site, and holds promise for generating fatigue-resistant contractions after SCI.

I dagens samhälle är miljöfrågor i allra högsta grad aktuella och därför något som anammats av företag som för några år sedan började miljöredovisa. Dessa redovisningar har som syfte att avspegla verkliga förhållanden. En studie som näringsdepartementet utfört på statliga företag har dock visat att miljöredovisningen inte alltid sammanfaller med det praktiska miljöarbetet. Statliga företag är, till skillnad från privata företag, skyldiga att miljöredovisa enligt lag. Huruvida denna lag medför några egentliga skillnader mellan statliga och privata företags utförande av miljöredovisning är en av flera faktorer som tas upp i denna uppsats. Uppsatsen har som grund att undersöka huruvida miljöredovisningen i de tre valda privata företagen Axfood, H&M och Sandvik är frikopplade från företagens miljöarbete. Studien är utförd utifrån ett intressentperspektiv, med respektive företags miljöredovisning som utgångspunkt. För att komma åt utvecklingen av såväl redovisning som arbete har samtliga av företagens redovisningar studerats mellan år 2000 och 2009. Utvecklingen har sedan analyseras utifrån studiens teoretiska referensram, vilken är baserad på institutionell teori som bland annat innefattar legitimitet och frikoppling. Med detta som grund har utvecklingen, av miljöredovisningen i förhållande till utvecklingen av miljöarbetet, kunnat utläsas för de valda företagen. Studien visar att både miljöarbetet och miljöredovisningen har utvecklats för företagen under den tidsperiod som studerats. Resultatet av studien visar även att samma fenomen, till viss del, förekommer hos de valda privata företagen som hos de statliga. Miljöredovisningen har, i två av företagen, varit frikopplad från miljöarbetet. För dessa två företag har miljöredovisningen utvecklats i högre utsträckning än miljöarbetet. Det företag som kan avvika ifrån teorin om löskoppling är H&M där miljöarbetet i stort sett utvecklats i samma utsträckning som miljöredovisningen eller mer.

Environmental issues are very much in question today. This has also been adopted by companies, who a few years ago started to publish environmental reports. These reports are designed to reflect reality. A study conducted by the Swedish Ministry of Industry, performed on enterprises owned by the Swedish state, has shown that environmental reports does not always coincide with the companies’ practical environmental work done by these companies. Even if their environmental reports has to be in accordance with the law, unlike the private firms’ voluntary situation. One of the several factors inquired in this paper are whether this law creates differences between public and private companies who are performing environmental accounting. ▼ This thesis examines Chinese metal of the mainland China as a contemporary cultural phenomenon, which consists of seven chapters. It begins with three premise chapters providing the necessary definitions and terminology about Chinese metal, reviewing the relevant literature, and explaining the multiple methodologies applied, respectively. Based on that, the following chapters explore Chinese metal from four perspectives, including the history, identity, industry, and social meaning. More specifically, Chapter 4 defines the history of Chinese metal as two waves, the heavy rock era (1990-1996) and extreme metal era (2000-2013). This overall trajectory had been moving forward with the country’s economic growth, technological progress, and cultural liberalism, showing a unique U-shape curve: starting in the mainstream field in the early 1990s, declining in the late 1990s, booming underground in the early 2000s, and rising again in the 2010s. Chapter 5 illustrates that the development of Chinese metal underwent a tension between globalisation and localisation, which were reflected in the texts of the music, MV, cover art, and folk metal subgenre. Particularly, this tension resulted in an identity struggle of the current Chinese metal musicians, which was realised by a mechanism of original identity suspension, textual deconstruction, and identity reconstruction. Chapter 6 proposes that the Chinese metal industries made great progress driven by the country’s rapid economic growth and cultural diversity, and a relatively maturely industrial system with different capitals and fields had been established by the 2000s, including the sections of labels, recordings, lives, media, merchandise, and a few peripheral activities. Chapter 7 argues that because of its essence of symbolic transgression, Chinese metal provided the musicians and audiences with a quasi-ritual catharsis to temporarily escape from the pressures of the reality. Meanwhile, Chinese metal presented a unique attribute of “pseudo-evil” as an intentional reaction against the general hypocrisy which is the most severe social pathology in the contemporary Chinese society.

▼ This thesis examines the subcultural politics of the “cut-out generation” in 1990s China. It is driven by a double aspiration, and aims to bridge gaps in two main fields of literature. The first aspiration is a historical one: I offer a fine historical account of the “cut-out generation” as a slice of 1990s Chinese society, which remained overlooked in Chinese studies. The second aspiration is a theoretical one: I interrogate existing theories and concepts in the larger field of cultural studies, including music and materiality, subculture and profanity, regime of value and structure of feeling, with evidence found in this Chinese case, and point toward a comprehensive framework for the analysis of subcultural politics. The methodological approach consists of 72 in-depth life history interview and archival analysis of a “cut-out archive”, both conducted through an “ethnographic imagination” lens. The thesis unpacks subcultural politics by looking into the materiality of subcultural objects, the sensuous interactions between people and things, and the dialectical interplay between a subculture and its historical, structural settings. It has three main empirical foci corresponding to each empirical chapter and organized under three theoretical themes: politics of value, dialectics of profanity, and structure of feeling. The first empirical chapter (politics of value) investigates three contested materialities of the cut-outs as plastic scrap, defective records, and “music info”, demonstrating in this way the different regimes of value which the cut-outs travelled through. The second one (dialectics of profanity) reveals how the cut-outs became a music object whose profanity was realized in various sensuous and creative relationships formed with Chinese consumers. ▼ This thesis examines the subcultural politics of the "cut-out generation" in 1990s China. It is driven by a double aspiration, and aims to bridge gaps in two main fields of literature. The first aspiration is a historical one: I offer a fine historical account of the "cut-out generation" as a slice of 1990s Chinese society, which remained overlooked in Chinese studies. The second aspiration is a theoretical one: I interrogate existing theories and concepts in the larger field of cultural studies, including music and materiality, subculture and profanity, regime of value and structure of feeling, with evidence found in this Chinese case, and point toward a comprehensive framework for the analysis of subcultural politics. The methodological approach consists of 72 in-depth life history interview and archival analysis of a "cut-out archive", both conducted through an "ethnographic imagination" lens. The thesis unpacks subcultural politics by looking into the materiality of subcultural objects, the sensuous interactions between people and things, and the dialectical interplay between a subculture and its historical, structural settings. It has three main empirical foci corresponding to each empirical chapter and organized under three theoretical themes: politics of value, dialectics of profanity, and structure of feeling. The first empirical chapter (politics of value) investigates three contested materialities of the cut-outs as plastic scrap, defective records, and "music info", demonstrating in this way the different regimes of value which the cut-outs travelled through. The second one (dialectics of profanity) reveals how the cut-outs became a music object whose profanity was realized in various sensuous and creative relationships formed with Chinese consumers. The last empirical chapter (structure of feeling) provides a historicized analysis of the structure of feeling of the "cut-out generation", which functioned as an affective infrastructure which both "emerged" from and "penetrated" the historical context of 1990s China.

I denna uppsats har jag studerat vad Corporate Social Resonsibility (sv. företags samhällsansvar) fyller för funktion när det kommer till implementeringen av de mänskliga rättigheterna i de land som multinationella företag har verksamhet i. Uppsatsen har sin utgångspunkt i, och har sin teoretiska förankring i FN:s deklaration om de mänskliga rättigheterna samt teorin om Corporate Social Responsibility. En fördjupad teoridel presenteras också där begrepp som det transnationella ansvarighetsglappet presenteras och även en kort diskussion kring den ansvarsutvidgning som skett och inte stater kan ses som enda aktörer för att förverkliga de mänskliga rättigheterna. Jag har använt mig av en kvalitativ forskningsmetod med beskrivande inslag, vilket innebär att jag genom studien haft ett tolkande synsätt på den data som använts. Jag har läst en mängd litteratur för att få en överblick över diskursen för att senare fördjupa mig i delar som jag anser är väsentliga och har passat mina frågeställningar. Jag använder företagen Hennes & Mauritz, IKEA och Volvo för att såväl illustrera som styrka mina argument. Förutom akademisk litteratur har jag använt mig av företagens års- och hållbarhetsrapporter samt en del källor hämtade från internet. Uppsatsen diskuterar vilken roll CSR fyller för de mänskliga rättigheterna. Olika exempel på CSR verksamhet diskuteras med exempel från företagens verksamhet. Bland annat lyfts för vad och för vem företagen anser sig ansvariga för och även vilka områden företagen konkret arbetar för i sitt CSR-arbete. De valda företagen har valt att ansluta sig till FN-initiativet Global Compact vilket uppsatsen också berör. Det finns många argument mot CSR och bland annat företagens motiv kritiseras. Trots att CSR står inför utmaningar när det gäller att förverkliga de mänskliga rättigheterna ser jag i min studie goda resultat av CSR-arbete. Jag ser i min slutsats ingen anledning att förkasta CSR men uttrycker att det bör ses som ett komplement till nationell lagstiftning. Ett starkt civilt samhälle och ett ökat samarbete mellan parter anser jag också är en förutsättning för att tillgodose de mänskliga rättigheterna.

In this paper I have researched the role of Corporate Social Responsibility when implementing human rights in countries where multi-national organizations act. The papers basis and theoretical foundation is the United Nation declaration of human rights along with theories regarding Corporate Social Responsibility. A deepened theoretical section will be presented where the transnational responsibility gap is explained. This section will be followed by a discussion regarding the changing area of responsibility that has take place, where not only governments should be viewed as actors when realizing the human rights. ▼ Le béton est l'un des matériaux de construction les plus utilisés au monde. Sa durabilité, ses propriétés mécaniques et chimiques en ont fait un matériau de choix dans les concepts de stockage proposés par l'Agence Nationale pour la gestion des Déchets RadioActifs (Andra), notamment pour la réalisation des ouvrages de soutènement, bouchons d'alvéoles, massifs d'appuis ou encore conditionnement des déchets. L'étude de la stabilité des phases constitutives des matériaux cimentaires est donc nécessaire au vu des quantités envisagées et de la pérennité des ouvrages, et doit considérer (i) des gammes de températures adaptées aux matrices cimentaires de confinement en contact avec des déchets exothermiques (25 à 80°C), et (ii) une échelle de temps représentative de la durée de vie d'un stockage.Le projet ThermoChimie de l'Andra vise donc à développer une base de données (BDD) thermodynamiques cohérente, permettant de modéliser l'évolution chimique des matériaux cimentaires dans l'environnement du stockage de déchets radioactifs. Toutefois, dans l'état actuel, la base de données ne propose que des données thermodynamiques sur les phases cimentaires bien cristallisées, ainsi que sur un jeu de données limité à trois compositions chimiques différentes pour les C-S-H nanocristallins, ne permettant pas de reproduire la dégradation des matériaux cimentaires, ni de modéliser la dégradation des nouvelles formulations telles que les bétons "bas-pH".L'objectif est donc d'acquérir un jeu de données thermodynamiques complémentaire, sur les phases telles que les C-S-H (Silicates de Calcium Hydratés), C-A-S-H (Silicates de Calcium Alumineux Hydratés) et M-S-H (Silicates de Magnésium Hydratés), pour les intégrer à la base de données Thermo-Chimie. Cette étude s'appuie sur un travail expérimental, analytique et numérique dans le but d'obtenir un jeu de données thermodynamiques (ΔfG0, ΔfH0, Cp(T), S0) suffisamment représentatif de la variabilité chimiques de ce type de phases. Enfin, cet ensemble de donnée permet le développement d'un modèle de prédiction de données thermodynamiques dans des espaces de compositions et de températures étendues.Le développement de ce modèle de prédiction requiert (i) l'acquisition de propriétés thermodynamiques sur des phases représentatives du système chimique étudié, et (ii) une connaissance précise de la structure et des formules chimiques de ces phases. Trois types d'hydrates ont donc été synthétisés puis caractérisés : les C-S-H, les C-A-S-H et les M-S-H. Des méthodes analytiques telles que la DRX, l’ATG et la RMN du solide (29Si, 27Al) permettent d'établir des similitudes entre la structure des C-(A-)S-H et celle de la tobermorite d'une part, et entre la structure des M-S-H et celle des phyllosilicates Mg-Si 2:1 d'autre part. The fast-fashion industry has been criticized along the years for its lack of environmental and social ethics. In this frame we find H&M, the world’s second largest fashion retailer. The Swedish fast-fashion retailer has set its goal towards making fashion sustainable and has launched in 2011 its sustainable clothing line “Conscious”. The present dissertation aims to discover the potential of sustainable fashion in changing consumers’ attitude towards the brand. For this matter, literature concerning important theories about sustainability, consumer reaction towards sustainable products, sustainable marketing and brand attitude will be discussed. This literature review will be followed by a case study, focused on H&M’s sustainable goals and its “Conscious” line. Market research, composed by an online survey, will support the case study in order to, later, provide with recommendations and teaching notes. The results of this study supports that the “Conscious” line has the power to change consumer attitude towards H&M. It was confirmed that exposure to facts about the sustainable activities of a brand has a positive impact and triggers a spill over effect to unrelated areas. After displaying information about “Conscious”, significant improvement was observed in attitudes such as willingness to pay, evaluations of products and even general judgments about H&M.

A industria da “fast-fashion” tem sido criticada ao longo dos anos pela falta de ética ambiental e social. Neste enquadramento encontramos a H&M, o segundo maior retalhista de moda no mundo. O gigante da “fast-fashion” tem como objetivo tornar sustentável a moda e lançou em 2011 a sua própria linha de moda sustentável, denominada “Conscious”. A seguinte dissertação pretende descobrir o potencial da moda sustentável em relação à mudança da atitude dos consumidores face à marca. Nesse contexto, foram investigados temas relevantes sobre sustentabilidade, reação dos consumidores face à produtos sustentáveis, marketing sustentável e atitude face à marca. Também foi desenvolvido um caso de estudo focado nos objetivos sustentáveis da H&M e, em particular da “Conscious”. Um estudo de mercado, composto por um questionário online, vai apoiar o caso de estudo para posteriormente apresentar recomendações e notas didáticas. Os resultados do estudo suportam que a “Conscious” tem o poder de mudar a atitude dos consumidores face à H&M. Foi confirmado que a exposição a dados sobre as atividades sustentáveis da marca tem consequências positivas em diferentes áreas. Depois de exibir informação sobre a “Conscious”, foram observadas melhorias significativas na atitude do consumidor como intenção de compra, avaliação de produtos e até avaliações gerais sobre a H&M.

Samopodoba in imidž blagovne znamke sta dva kompleksna pojma. Tako samopodoba kot tudi imidž blagovne znamke ne nastaneta čez noč, temveč skozi dolgotrajen proces. Magistrsko delo je sestavljeno iz teoretičnega in empiričnega dela. V empiričnem delu smo predstavili pojem blagovne znamke, samopodobo oseb, skladnost samopodobe posameznika in blagovne znamke ter blagovne znamke spodnjega perila. V empiričnem delu smo želeli ugotoviti, ali obstajajo razlike med moško in žensko samopodobo ter uporabo blagovnih znamk spodnjega perila, ter preveriti, ali je ujemanje samopodobe moških z imidžem znamke, ki jo imajo, nižje kot pri ženskah. Pri izdelavi magistrske naloge smo izbrali primerjavo med šestimi blagovnimi znamkami spodnjega perila za ženske, in sicer: H&M, Lisca, Calvin Klein, Palmers, Triumph in Skiny. Za moške smo izbrali pet znamk spodnjega perila: H&M, Calvin Klein, Galeb, Lisca in Tommy Hilfiger. V uvodnem delu smo opredelili področje raziskave in problem, namen, cilje in hipoteze, predpostavke in omejitve ter uporabljene metode raziskovanja. S pomočjo drugega poglavja smo opredelili ključne pojme, ki sestavljajo blagovno znamko. V tretjem poglavju smo zapisali opredelitve samopodobe, samozavesti, samospoštovanja in razlike med moško ter žensko samopodobo. S pomočjo četrtega poglavja smo predstavili skladnost samopodobe posameznika in blagovne znamke. V nadaljevanju smo predstavili blagovne znamke spodnjega perila, ki smo jih navedli že zgoraj. V empiričnem delu smo s pomočjo metode anketiranja analizirali uporabnike spodnjega perila zgoraj omenjenih znamk. V ta namen smo uporabili anketni vprašalnik. Izbrali smo nekatere izmed že postavljenih dimenzij, ki jih je zapisal Malhotra, določen del pa smo prilagodili svojim dimenzijam. Z anketnim vprašalnikom smo anketirali 158 uporabnikov spodnjega perila. Vzorčni okvir je zajemal osebe v starostni skupini od 16 do 63 let. Držali smo se predpostavke, da bo približno polovica vzorca moškega spola in polovica vzorca ženskega spola. Ugotovili smo, da se samopodoba glede na spol ne razlikuje. Dobljeni rezultati, tako za moške kot tudi za ženske, so nam prikazali, da se imidži znamk spodnjega perila med seboj razlikujejo. Največ oseb, tako ženskega kot tudi moškega spola, ima v lasti blagovno znamko spodnjega perila H&M.

▼ In early January 2018, the clothing company H&M released a new collection for children. One of the sweaters in the collection was printed with the text "Coolest monkey in the jungle". The shirt was worn by a dark-skinned child and H&M was accused of racism. This is because the word "monkey" has historically been used as a racist slur to downgrade dark-skinned people. Throughout the scandal H&M has published an official press release, as well as a number of posts on social media, each of which affects the scandal. The purpose of the study is to analyze H&Ms crisis communication with regard to the strategies they used during the shirt scandal. The main question of the study is how did H&M's crisis communication express itself in text during the shirt scandal. The theories used in the study are William Benoit's image repair theory (2014) and Timothy Coombs Situational crisis communication theory (2007), abbreviated SCCT. The methods used are a qualitative content analysis, text analysis and a rhetorical analysis. The qualitative content analysis is based on the chosen theories, so that the survey can extract the underlying message that H&M wants to convey. While the text analysis processes the text itself and how the company wants the reader to perceive the message and how H&M’s texts interact with each other. The rhetorical analysis contributes to a deeper understanding of the text's underlying message and structure with the actual text as a starting point. The rhetorical analysis is done by analysing the text’s structure with the rhetoric disposition scheme as a starting point. H&M’s crisis communication is in this case related to what is proposed in the strategic theories of crisis communication. The main crisis communication strategies used by H&M were admitting responsibility, asking for forgiveness and corrective actions. The rhetoric analysis has shown that the press release and posts on social media have different functions. The press release make greater importance to the structure of the disposition scheme, while the social media posts rather contain certain parts, for example, a greater focus on pathos and the preparatory of counter arguments while communicating to individuals rather than the public.

▼ This thesis examines Chinese metal of the mainland China as a contemporary cultural phenomenon, which consists of seven chapters. It begins with three premise chapters providing the necessary definitions and terminology about Chinese metal, reviewing the relevant literature, and explaining the multiple methodologies applied, respectively. Based on that, the following chapters explore Chinese metal from four perspectives, including the history, identity, industry, and social meaning. More specifically, Chapter 4 defines the history of Chinese metal as two waves, the heavy rock era (1990-1996) and extreme metal era (2000-2013). This overall trajectory had been moving forward with the country’s economic growth, technological progress, and cultural liberalism, showing a unique U-shape curve: starting in the mainstream field in the early 1990s, declining in the late 1990s, booming underground in the early 2000s, and rising again in the 2010s. Chapter 5 illustrates that the development of Chinese metal underwent a tension between globalisation and localisation, which were reflected in the texts of the music, MV, cover art, and folk metal subgenre. Particularly, this tension resulted in an identity struggle of the current Chinese metal musicians, which was realised by a mechanism of original identity suspension, textual deconstruction, and identity reconstruction. Chapter 6 proposes that the Chinese metal industries made great progress driven by the country’s rapid economic growth and cultural diversity, and a relatively maturely industrial system with different capitals and fields had been established by the 2000s, including the sections of labels, recordings, lives, media, merchandise, and a few peripheral activities. Chapter 7 argues that because of its essence of symbolic transgression, Chinese metal provided the musicians and audiences with a quasi-ritual catharsis to temporarily escape from the pressures of the reality. Meanwhile, Chinese metal presented a unique attribute of “pseudo-evil” as an intentional reaction against the general hypocrisy which is the most severe social pathology in the contemporary Chinese society.

▼ This thesis explores the extent to which, and the ways in which, KCC Live, a volunteer youth-led community radio station situated in Knowsley, neighbouring Liverpool, UK, provides a space for young people to find and realise their voices. The body of geographical work on radio has predominantly focussed on large-scale geopolitical questions at the international scale. In particular, there has been a deficit of research considering community radio in the UK. Research from other countries is not easily transferable, due to the specific regulatory paradigms in different countries. This study takes a step towards remedying the neglect of community radio in geographical research in the UK. This research project adopts a participatory design in collaboration with young people at KCC Live. Mixed methods were employed, including: 18 months of observant participation; interviews and focus groups with volunteers; interviews with management at KCC Live and Knowsley Community College; a listener survey, listener diaries, and follow-up interviews. Accompanying this thesis are two co-produced audio artefacts: an audio documentary named ‘Community to me is…’, which explores young people’s musings on community, and a three-part radio series called ‘What we found’, which discusses the findings of this research in audio form. First, my research provides insight into a twofold vision of youth voice as both restricted and creative concurrently. This thesis shows that community radio is not a cure-all solution for disenfranchised and silenced young people, as young people at KCC Live work within a pre-censored idea of speech. Second, this thesis finds that young people conceptualise the KCC Live community in multiple ways. These include: friendships which constitute communities of choice; geographic communities within specific locales; the functioning of KCC Live as a community of practice; imagined communities of listeners; and virtual communities, formed through use of social media. This research therefore advances recent debates that shift notions of community away from static place-based understandings to more networked approaches. Third, this thesis demonstrates that young people are capable of learning skills, locating resources and building networks, thereby generating their own stocks of social capital. It therefore challenges the dominant perception within the literature of young people as receivers, rather than producers, of social capital.

▼ Purpose – The purpose of this work is to examine the actual CSR situation in low wage countries of the textile industry and to identify obstacles and suggestions for improvements of the working conditions. In order to achieve that approach, different sources and various articles, magazines, books and related websites are being researched to get a wide range of information and to avoid a partial reflection. Furthermore an exemplary discussion of the CSR activities of two leading fashion retailers, Bestseller and H&M will be implemented by having a look on their company homepages as well as their current and previous annual reports and stated CSR activities. In addition, interviews with international operating NGO’s, fair trade unions and human right foundations will be conducted to receive widely independent information, deeper insights and critics concerning CSR and Human Development in the textile business. These interviews are of crucial importance for this work, since they provide widely independent assessments of the actual state of CSR implementation within the industry. By considering all the different information, this work provides ultimately indications for grievances and proposals for improvements in Human Development. Methodology – Using a qualitative research strategy, this work begins with a definition of CSR and Human Development, which provides a necessary background knowledge to approach CSR in the textile business. In order to get an idea of some of the industry wide activities and obstacles, this work contains an exemplary description of the CSR work of the two leading fashion retailers, Bestseller and H&M, using their company home pages as well as their current and previous annual reports and an outline of their reflection of the current stage of affairs regarding Human Development. Based on the findings from the homepages of H&M and Bestseller and the companies’ claim, different researched articles and the latest accidents in the news, eleven different interview questions were developed, regarding the actual textile production situation in the RGM industry. These questions are being used for semi-structured in-depth interviews with three different experts of the International Labour Organization, the German NGO Südwind Institute and the Confederation of the German Textile and Fashion Industry to get first hand information about the already achieved progress of the working conditions, as well as crucial driving forces and challenges within the Human Development “sector” of CSR in low wage countries. By considering all the different information, this work finally reveals grievances in CSR and gives proposals for improving the working conditions of the textile factory workers in emerging countries. Findings – The findings show the complexity and necessity of a controversy about CSR approaches in the textile and garment sector of developing countries. Purpose: The purpose of this thesis has been to study, describe and analyze how luxury fashion brands have responded to fast fashion. Background: It has been stated that the life of luxury fashion brands has become more difficult since the proliferation of fast fashion brands. The Italian luxury fashion designer Giorgio Armani has said that "Fast fashion is a growing reality in our sector". Anna Wintour, the editor-in-chief of American Vogue has credited Zara for creating a ‘seasonless cycle for fashion’. Fast fashion brands such as H&M, Zara, Mango and Topshop have through interpreting catwalk trends with a speedy time-to-market been extremely successful at attracting the fashion conscious consumer. Even loyal high-end customers have started to mix their luxury fashion with fast fashion. Luxury fashion brands once dismissed the fast fashion brands as irrelevant to their high-end business, which however have started to drain away sales from the luxury fashion brands. Method: A qualitative research approach was taken to meet the purpose of collecting the relevant data. An interview was made with PR and Marketing Manager at Group 88, Robert Meeder who manages brands such as Gucci, Burberry and Bottega Veneta in Copenhagen. We also did a content analysis on articles collected that address the issue of how different luxury fashion brands have responded to fast fashion for the empirical study. Conclusion: Luxury fashion brands have responded to fast fashion by inclining towards the fast fashion model or reacting against it. Some of the reactions have been to offer lower priced lines under their own sub-brands. They have also allowed their customers to buy products during online webcasts in order to ensure early deliveries. Improvements have been made within logistics in order to speed up the time-to-market. The luxury fashion brands are also working more ‘seasonless’ than before and focusing on their heritage to portray a slower and more indulgent image to the consumer.
