▼ For the geophysical investigation methods seismic and
GPR, which are based on
propagation of waves in the middle and the recording of the return of these waves to the
receiver on the surface, we can highlight 3 possibilities of recorded events: reflections,
refractions and diffractions. Like reflection, diffraction is a phenomenon that occurs with
wave fronts, both electromagnetic and acoustic. The diffraction occurs with wave fronts
that reach edges, vertices or corners of boundary surfaces; discontinuities; objects,
particles or obstacles that act as points. Local structures and lithology are features that
cause diffraction. They can be fractures, faults, geological bodies like intrusions and
bioherms and reefs, salt domes and discontinuities of layers of rock. However,
diffractions are commonly considered noise. This work presents a pioneering
methodology for the enhancement of diffraction: the use of
GPR attributes that measure
the kinematic and energy properties related to diffractions, distinguishing them from the
reflections events. The methodology consists of estimate the dip, the curvature and
amplitude of the diffractions that differentiate them from the reflections and use such a
distinction to eliminate the latter. This results in an image with enhanced diffractions.

▼ A cégek számára a mostani gazdasági helyzetben még fontosabbá vált a logisztikai szolgáltatások költség hatékony elvégzése. Minden újítás, fejlesztés, ami a szolgáltatást egyszerűsíti és könnyíti az a cég költségeit csökkentheti. Ezért a járműparkkal, jármű flottával rendelkező vállalatok egyre nagyobb érdeklődést mutatnak minden olyan rendszer iránt amellyel javíthatnak a szolgáltatásuk hatékonyságán.
Így akár a cég megrendelői is tudnak tájékozódni, hogy hol tart a megrendelt áru, illetve lehetővé teszi akár a Just In Time rendszer működtetését is.

▼ This study characterizes the development and migration of blowouts within Padre Island National Seashore (PAIS). A combination of aerial photographs and Light Detection and Ranging (LIDAR) are used to track the migration of eighteen blowouts, while Ground-penetrating Radar (
GPR) is used to investigate the subsurface at two smaller sites in the study area. This data, coupled with beach morphology and changing anthropogenic factors, helps understand why the dune blowouts develop and are restricted to a particular section of the National Seashore.
Aerial Photographs taken at least twice a decade since 1969 were used to track blowouts. Each blowout was digitized in order to understand its morphometric characteristics by studying its length, width, area, segmentation, perimeter, and the width of the neck, when present, through the foredune. The velocity and direction of movement were also calculated. Cluster analysis was used to analyze the blowouts using these morphological variables. Based on this data, blows appear to group into two morphologically different clusters. Blowouts grouped into Cluster 1 are longer, thinner, have smaller perimeters and areas, smaller throat widths, and are furthest from the beach access road. A lower dune elevation leads to a larger wave runup to crest height ratio. A larger ratio suggests that the dunes are more easily overtopped during large storms, thus scarping, a precursor to blowout development, is increased. Cluster 2 blowouts tend to be longer, wider, and stabilized faster leading to a more undulated perimeter in addition to a smaller wave runup potential due to a higher dune elevation.
Historically blowouts covered the entire northern portion of PAIS. In the 1970’s the portion of the beach north of Park Road 22 was designated as non-driving. Since then all blowouts in this section have revegetated, while, blowouts in the driving section are still active. Beach driving pulverizes seaweed leading to less deposition along the dune toe and therefore a lower elevation of the backshore. As a result there is a greater wave runup in storms leading to an increase in susceptibility to scarping, and therefore, blowouts.
Despite the fact that storms are the primary mechanism for blow development, anthropogenic effects, such as vehicle traffic, flatten the beach profile allowing for lower areas to become inundated during storms. This, along with decreased sediment budget and increased storm frequency increases the potential for blowouts to form events and leave the island vulnerable to an increased rate of sea level rise.
GPR surveys were completed at two sites; an active blowout with a foredune that is not completely reestablished (Site 1) and a blowout that is stabilized by vegetation (Site 2). Six
GPR surveys were completed at Site 1 and four surveys were completed at Site 2 that show the preservation of historic phases, surfaces, and facies used to interpret sequences and compare to aerial photography and LiDAR data. Site 1 moves through five phases that begin in 1969 and end at the…

▼ The use of numerical modeling software to characterize groundwater contaminant fate and transport requires an understanding of the distribution of hydraulic properties of the aquifer. As the complexity of this distribution increases, a more sophisticated understanding is required. Modeling contaminant transport in bedrock aquifers requires that the spatial distributions of highly conductive geologic features are characterized along with the hydraulic transmissivities of those features (Shapiro, 2003). The goal of this research is to refine the numerical model of a highly transmissive crystalline aquifer by characterizing the spatial variability of the hydraulic transmissivity using the attenuation of the ground penetrating radar (
GPR) signal.
Slug tests were performed in ten bedrock wells, located within and surrounding a highly conductive zone. The transmissivities measured in these wells ranged from 1.5 E-1 ft
2/day to 4.2 E+2 ft
2/day; values greater than 100 ft
2/day were measured in four of the bedrock wells. A
GPR survey was conducted over the well network and five transects were selected for further analysis. The location of the ten wells were projected onto the nearest
GPR transects and the
GPR data from each location were isolated for further analysis. A visual inspection
GPR signal data indicates that the signal reflection increases at locations where high transmissivity values were measured. This relationship was attributed to an increased volume of fluid present within the fractures; a characteristic previously used to identify productive bedrock aquifers at multiple sites (e.g., Porsani, 2005, Halihan, 2008).
The correlation between the transmissivities and the analyzed signal was evaluated at the four locations where higher transmissivities were measured. No correlation was observed when all four points were included. When the data collected from well BW-18 were excluded from the analysis, a near perfect correlation was observed for the remaining three points. The transmissivity measured in BW-18 was the highest value measured onsite. This suggests that the aperture thickness, a characteristic which is not identified using
GPR, may play a significant role in the distribution of transmissivities at this location.
The remaining
GPR data were transformed to the corresponding hydraulic conductivity using a linear regression fitted to the three correlating points. The values calculated were used as the conductivity values for the model layer corresponding to the shallow bedrock. The resulting model was no more accurate than an identical model created using only the measured transmissivities.
Consistent with previous findings, this investigation determined that
GPR data collected by surficial geophysical methods is capable of characterizing highly transmissive regions. Since the spatial variations in the aperture thickness are not identified using this method, it is not appropriate for sites where significant variation is expected. The high…

▼ Hydrological functioning of natural soil pipe networks and their impact on water transfer at the hillslope and small watershed scale are still little documented, in particular in the loess-derived soils of western Europe. This thesis aimed at providing a better understanding of the hydrological behavior of pipe networks at the hillslope scale at two sites in eastern and western Belgium using a variety of experimental and modeling techniques. This study demonstrated the potential of GPR for pipe network investigations. Results also revealed a complex threshold-like relationship between pipe discharge and rainfall, mainly controlled by seasonal differences in groundwater levels and to a lesser extent by antecedent precipitations. Natural soil pipes were shown to provide great hydrological connectivity between the upstream and downstream parts of the hillslope, a by-pass role that has important implications for runoff generation and solute transport.

▼ This thesis involves the digital imaging and modeling of a neoproterozoic microbialitic colony in the Fazenda Arrecife (BA) outcrop, using the Ground Penetrating Radar (
GPR) method and the application of mathematical attributes. Concomitantly, columnar sections and radioactive profiles acquisition were carried out, allowing the characterization of the sedimentary facies. Petrographic studies and chemical analysis (SEM/EDS and XRF) were used to identify the composition of the stylolithic levels that generate reflections in the
GPR sections. The "Instantaneous Amplitude" attribute highlighted a microbialite community (low amplitude), which displays different signature pattern. The "Energy" attribute showed a similar result comparing to the "Instantaneous Amplitude". Nevertheless, this attribute provided a better visualization of the internal lamination of the columnar microbialite. The "Similarity" attribute emphasized the community boundary. The "Hilbert Trace/Energy" combination showed significant enhancement of the microbial growth boundaries compared to the "Energy" attribute. The attribute "Hilbert Trace/Similarity" highlighted the internal structure of the microbial community. The described facies were designated as microbialitic facies (MCme, MCm and MCma) and tempestite facies (Cahm). Minerals, such as limonite and/or siderite, were identified by the petrographic study, which corroborates with the chemical analysis results. The chemical analysis shows high Fe values to the stylolithic level, which causes the reflections observed in the
GPR sections, due to the electromagnetic contrast between the microbialite (ℇ = 6.55) and the stylolithic levels (ℇ = 14.2). The generated 3D solid properly represents a microbial community. The attribute application to
GPR data allowed to highlight the microbialitic features not observed in the original data. Therefore, this application can be used in similar geologic contexts.

▼ Palmitate (PA) is a saturated fatty acid that has been reported to be elevated in individuals with metabolic syndromes. The effects of fatty acids on the expression of various fatty acid receptors on neuronal cells is unknown, as is the effects of fatty acids on GLUT transporters. In this study, Neuro-2a (N2a) cells were treated with either 300μM of bovine serum albumin (BSA) or 300μM of palmitate conjugated to BSA (PA) at various time points to determine the effect of palmitate on the expression of various fatty acid receptors and GLUT transporters. RNA isolation followed by RT-PCR with primers specific to various G- protein coupled receptors (GPRs) and GLUT transporters was performed on these treated cells and further analyzed with statistical tests. 24 hour treatment with 300μM PA yielded increased mRNA expression of GPR41, GPR84, GPR119, GPR120 and GLUT5 when compared to vehicle control. In order to determine how GLUT5 may be regulated, N2a cells were treated with 300μM BSA along with PKA inhibitor KT5720 or GPR120 agonist GW9508. RNA isolation followed by RT-PCR showed that GPR41, GPR119 and GLUT5 expression increased with PKA inhibition, and GPR120 expression increased with GPR120 stimulation. These results suggest that PKA may play a role in the regulation of GPR41, GPR119 and GLUT5 in neuronal cells stimulated with palmitate.

▼ Parabolic dunes generally occur in coastal environments in tropical zones, and are
deposits influenced by several factors besides the wind regime, such as precipitation,
vegetation cover and water table. In view of their particularities, a model of the
geophysical signatures of sedimentary structures of open and closed parabolic coastal
dunes is presented here. Geophysical acquisition with
GPR and topographic survey with
UAV and geodetic GPS were carried out on dunes in Rio do Fogo and São Bento do
Norte / RN, Brazil, and allowed to describe the internal structures of the following
morphological features: depositional lobe, trailing arms, back ridges, dune track ridges
and deflation basin. The depositional lobe has progressive foresets, as well as trailing
arms. The deflation basin, in turn, has concordant and thin layers as a result of the
accumulation of thicker grains and preservation of the blades. The dune track ridges and
back ridges occur both in the deflation basin as arched sandy ridges, with a lack of
definition in the literature when differentiating these features, especially with regard to
their origins. The internal structures identified for the dune track ridges point to two
signatures in this feature: at its base there is the preservation of progradant layers
reliquary to the migration of the open parabolic dune, separated by a superposition
surface above which trapping layers occur. The back ridge is related to the erosive event
of the closed parabolic dune, which results from a wind reactivation or precedes a
blowout.

Reproduction in mammals is regulated by neurons that synthesize and secrete gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH) and across the species these neurons are present in few numbers scattered in the hypothalamus. Due to limited neurogenesis of these neuronal cell types outside the brain in the olfactory placode, these neurons are subjected to tight regulation during embryonic development to reach their final targets in the hypothalamus, from birth until puberty for minimal secretion of hormone and during adults to achieve pulsatile secretion of the hormone. Deregulation in any of these mechanisms may lead to deleterious effects on adult reproduction and clinical pathologies like absence of puberty, hypogonadism, sterility, amenorrhea, etc. Kallmann syndrome (KS), one of these severe reproductive pathologies is an inherited disorder and patients affected with this syndrome display anosmia (inability to smell) and hypogonadotropic hypogonadism (HH). Genetic screening of molecules in these patients lead to identification of genes like KAL1, FGFR1, FGF8, PROK2, PROKR2, WDR11 and CHD7 encoding proteins that play an important role in migration and targeting of olfactory system during embryonic development however these genes account only for 30% of KS cases emphasizing the need for further characterization and identification of other genes. While these proteins are involved in ontogenesis olfactory and GnRH system, genetic screening of molecules in patients suffering from normosmic idiopathic HH lead to identification of genes encoding for Kisspeptin receptor-GPR54, TAC-TACR3, LEP-LEPR, PCSK-1, GnRH receptor-GnRHR and GnRH-1 itself that play a crucial role in occurrence of puberty or adult reproduction. Here, for my PhD thesis, we focused on studying the role of guidance molecule Semaphorin3A (Sema3A)-Neuropilin1 (Nrp1) interactions in ontogenesis of GnRH neurons during embryonic development while in adults we first addressed the question if hypothalamic Kisspeptin neurons interact with neurons containing neuronal nitric oxide synthase (nNOS), the mutation of which causes HH in mice, and physiological…

▼ This thesis is the product of a recent study
of Schoenbrunn Village, Ohio utilizing Ground-Penetrating Radar
(
GPR). In an effort to expand what is presently known about the
settlement, parts of the site around the reconstructed cabins were
covered with
GPR and the anomalies found were analyzed and
classified by category. The
GPR data collected
proves that the present reconstruction of Schoenbrunn is
unquestionably in the right location. The cemetery is confirmed and
several
GPR anomalies located in line with and near the
reconstructed cabins are interpreted as possible living spaces.
Also, Anonymous’ (1952) assertions that the Indian houses were
smaller than the reconstructed cabins and were not uniformly
located on the street line in the middle of each lot are confirmed.
Archaeological excavation is recommended in order to verify the
nature of the anomalies and to further understand the historical
significance of this site.

BEST (Beerkan Estimation of Soil Transfer Parameters through Infiltration Experiments) também

Recent petroleum reserves discoveries in carbonates reservoirs have increased the interest in this kind of reservoir. However, deficit information about this kind of system has motivating new researches to reach best understanding about this subject. Modeling of architecture in a porous system is an example of this research, because through modeling is
possible to extract important parameters, such as porosity and geometry of reservoirs, which have influence on petroleum reserves and production. The purpose of the present work is modeling the Morro do Chaves Member (Coqueiro Seco Formation) carbonate reservoir, which could be used like an analogue to Lagoa Feia Formation carbonate reservoir, located in Campos Basin. The present modeling was realized from acquisition of 3D GPR composed by fixed-offset lines in Pedreira do Atol, located in Alagoas State. The 3D volume was interpreted applying radar-stratigraphic methodology and seismic attributes (DIP and Coherence). These methodologies allowed characterize seven…

(DCP), light weight deflectometer (LWD) , Pencel pressuremeter,

techniques are also discussed. A comparison between the different
track investigation techniques was also done, with reference to
sample rate, cost, effectiveness and value. Two sites in South

substructure conditions used for heavy haul coal export close to

These two sites were selected to develop a

GPR surveys provide continuous measurements of the
track structure condition and can therefore provide a continuous
classification unlike the discreet and fragmented nature of in situ
investigations. However, in situ tests can be done at certain
intervals within the
GPR survey or at point where the
GPR
classification is not clear. The best solution for…

In this work a 4D GPR survey was accomplished in a laboratory in which a oil leak from a ETD Estação de Transmissão e Distribuição of electric energy was simulated. The studies consisted in an oil spill (15 liters) in three different experiments: i) tank containing dry sand, ii) tank containing wet sand with a hydraulic gradient and iii) tank containing wet sand. In all experiments the objective was detect the contamination plume and evaluate the migration of the oil with the time. The 4D GPR data was acquired using a shielded antenna of 400 MHz model SIR-3000 of the GSSI equipment. The time monitoring of the data acquisition ranged from 2 minutes up to 12 days. In the experiment-1 with the tank filled with dry sand wasnt possible to determine the plume contamination due to the low contrast of the physical properties between the environment and the plume. In the experiment-2 where the tank filled with the dry sand in the presence of a hydraulic gradient, was possible to determine the migration of the plume from the fifth day. Finally, the experiment-3 where the tank was filled with…

The step size between shots was 0.25 meters and the separation between the antennas was 1 meter. Two common midpoint (CMP) surveys were conducted and the subsurface
GPR velocity was determined to be 0.06 m/ns. The survey results indicate that sediment overburden thickness ranges from 0 m at bedrock outcrops to > 9 m near East Glacier Lake. The volume of sediment at the study site estimated at 83,800 ± 8,380 m3. Based on a grainsize analysis of representative soil pedons the average specific yield at the study site is estimated to be approximately 10%. Given these values for soil volume and specific yield, the potential groundwater storage is 8,380 ± 838 m3 for the study site, which extrapolates to 61,300 ± 6,130 m3 in groundwater storage in the East Glacier Lake watershed. The two dimensional bedrock fracture density was determined to be 1 fracture per 4,810 m2. The bedrock groundwater storage is undetermined.

▼ A wireless data transmission system was developed and implemented for use in real-time 3D geophysical sensing. Server and Client applications were designed to run on a stationary computer and a mobile computer attached to the geophysical sensor, respectively. Several methods for optimizing communication over wireless networks using commonly available hardware were tested and compared, and a scheme for varying the size of transmissions in accordance with the recent performance of the wireless network was chosen. The final system was integrated with a 3D Ground Penetrating Radar (
GPR) system and tested in a field experiment that spanned two weeks and involved the acquisition of 16 data volumes. The system performed successfully throughout the experiment and provided necessary feedback to assist in the error-free acquisition of all data volumes. Future development of the system is discussed in order for the system to support an automated wireless geophysical sensor network with multiple client sensors moved around the survey area by automated robots.

▼ Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) is a promising technology to detect buried objects beneath or near ground surface. To achieve high-resolution and accurate enough images, the transmitting antenna (TX) in this technology is required to radiate a highly-correlated narrow width pulse towards ground where the targets are hidden. For this application, an ultra-wide bandwidth (0.3?6 GHz) antenna from the family of Vivaldi antennas is designed and optimized. This antenna meets the required features of the TX antenna both in frequency and time domains. Apart from its broadband characteristics, the antenna radiates highly correlated pulse towards its footprint. It, also, shows very low late-time ringing and has narrow width impulse response. The antenna is designed on a 2.33 dielectric permittivity substrate and is fed via a 50 SMA end-launch.

▼ Ground-penetrating-radar (
GPR) is a non-destructive testing method that utilizes the transmission or reflection of electromagnetic (EM) waves to locate anomalies beneath a surface.
GPR is now widely used in mining, civil engineering, environmental sciences, and archaeology to survey the subsurface. In a conventional
GPR survey, only the arrival time of the EM pulse is used to obtain an estimate for the depth of a target. There is much more information incorporated in
GPR records that can be used to infer conditions below the surface. This thesis aims to enhance
GPR surveys by utilizing material properties and signal processing. Large quantities of systematic data are necessary for completing the two projects; therefore, a numerical simulation tool is developed. A 2D finite-difference-time-domain (FDTD) simulation of EM wave propagation is established using MATLAB. Dispersive materials described by N-term Debye models can be simulated by the algorithm, which facilitates studies on dispersive materials. Contrary to common assumptions, some materials, especially those that are wet, have frequency-dependent relative permittivities. The dispersion in velocity changes the shape of the source pulse during propagation and poses a challenge for travel time estimation. Instead of treating dispersion as an obstacle to
GPR applications, a novel method of distinguishing dispersive materials by estimating quality factor (Q*) is proposed in the thesis. Using a combination of laboratory measurements and modelling results, it is shown that
GPR signals can be used to identify dispersive behaviours. On the signal processing side, a method of estimating radii of cylindrical objects from phase information is demonstrated. In contrast to previous studies, the phase information of reflected signals have better resolution and are closer to theoretical values compared to arrival time analysis. The method, with limitations investigated through uncertainty calculations, is applied to both numerical examples and real
GPR data for testing.

▼ Situated at the southwestern tip of Lake Superior, Minnesota and Wisconsin Points' form a 16-kilometer baymouth bar between Duluth, Minnesota and Superior, Wisconsin, providing the breakwater for the largest and farthest inland freshwater seaport in North America. Comprised of sandy sediment, this baymouth bar's formation is attributed largely to littoral drift from the Wisconsin South Shore and minor sediments from the outflows of the St. Louis and Nemadji River's. Due to continuing differential isostatic rebound of the basin, local lake level at Duluth is presently rising at approximately 25 centimeters/century. The objective of this thesis was to understand the geomorphic evolution of the bay-side of the baymouth bar in response to lake level change in relation to the system overall. Using an approach akin to energy industry seismic studies, the geomorphic expression of the bay-side baymouth bar’s response to lake level change was investigated with 39.62 kilometers of Three-Dimensional (3D) Ground-Penetrating Radar (GPR) data. 8 vibracores’, 11.24 meters’ in total, were advanced within the 3D GPR data to supplement subsurface understanding both spatially and temporally. Radiocarbon material taken from the vibracores were analyzed, dated, and used to establish a chronology for the evolution of the study area (~520.50 Cal yrs. BP to 181.25 Cal yrs. BP). Whole core logger data (including p-wave amplitude and velocity, gamma ray density, acoustic impedance, and fractional porosity) along with Loss on Ignition (LOI) samples taken from each core were used in conjunction with the GPR data to supplement the subsurface stratigraphic and facies identification. In total, 5 facies units were interpreted on the bay side of the baymouth bar, exhibiting a thick clay layer, shoreface ridge and shallow offshore sediments, overwash deposition, fluvial-flood like deposition, and man-made dredge deposits. Historical information and photographs dating back to the 1930’s provide evidence supporting interpretations of dredge material versus natural material. Although this baymouth bar is a young, non-marine system, reconstructing its geomorphic evolution in response to lake level change has become a useful analogue for similar, larger systems involved with base level change. In addition, stratigraphic findings of how such a system’s architecture is configured yield insightful clues towards vintage conventional exploration reservoirs. Finally, these data support a stronger understanding of how such a system geomorphically evolved in the context of the Lake Superior region post glaciation and aid in reshaping knowledge of how other geomorphic features and processes have developed throughout the region, perhaps providing tangible framework for future engineering and environmental management undertakings.

▼ Stratigraphic analyses of lacustrine sediments provide powerful tools for reconstructing past environments. The records that result from these analyses are key to understanding present-day climate mechanisms and how the natural environment may respond to anthropogenic climate change in the future. This doctoral dissertation research investigates climate and environmental history at Laguna Saladilla (19° [degrees] 39' N, 71° [degrees] 42' W; ca. 2 masl), a large (220 ha) lake along the north coast of Hispaniola. I reconstructed changes in vegetation and environmental conditions over the mid to late Holocene based on pollen, microscopic charcoal, and diatoms in an 8.51 m sediment core recovered from the lake in 2001. Fieldwork in December 2009 included the use of ground penetrating radar to identify subaqueous deltas that indicate past positions of the Masacre river, which flows into the lake from the Cordillera Central. Laguna Saladilla was deeper and more saline from the base of the sediment profile approximately 8030 cal yr BP to about 3500 cal yr BP. Mangrove (Rhizophora) pollen percentages were highest around 7650 cal yr BP, when mollusk shells in the core suggest marine conditions. The lake became progressively brackish ca. 3500 cal yr BP, followed by a transition ca. 2500 cal yr BP to its current freshwater state. This shift in water chemistry was likely due in part to a change in the position of the Masacre river. Diatoms show that lake levels decreased as evaporation/precipitation ratios increased. Amaranthaceae and other herbs dominated the pollen record under the drier conditions of the last 2500 cal yr BP; pollen of fire-adapted taxa, particularly Pinus, increased in the last 800 years. Patterns of microscopic charcoal influx at Laguna Saladilla over the Holocene are similar to patterns at Lake Miragoane, Haiti and Laguna Tortuguero, Puerto Rico. The changes in fire frequency or extent indicated by these Caribbean charcoal records may be driven by increased winter insolation at ca. 5000 cal yr BP that led to earlier winter drying. Comparing the charcoal record to archeological data and other paleoenvironmental records facilitated the disentangling of changes in climate from anthropogenic impacts.

▼ The camera motion estimation represents one of the fundamental problems in Computer
Vision and it may be solved by several methods. Preemptive RANSAC is one of them,
which in spite of its robustness and speed possesses a lack of flexibility related to the requirements
of applications and hardware platforms using it. In this work, we propose an
improvement to the structure of Preemptive RANSAC in order to overcome such limitations
and make it feasible to execute on devices with heterogeneous resources (specially
low budget systems) under tighter time and accuracy constraints. We derived a function
called BRUMA from Preemptive RANSAC, which is able to generalize several preemption
schemes, allowing previously fixed parameters (block size and elimination factor)
to be changed according the applications constraints. We also propose the Generalized
Preemptive RANSAC method, which allows to determine the maximum number of hipotheses
an algorithm may generate. The experiments performed show the superiority of
our method in the expected scenarios. Moreover, additional experiments show that the
multimethod hypotheses generation achieved more robust results related to the variability
in the set of evaluated motion directions

▼ In this beginning of the XXI century, the Geology moves for new ways that demand a capacity to work with different information and new tools. It is within this context that the analog characterization has important in the prediction and
understanding the lateral changes in the geometry and facies distribution. In the present work was developed a methodology for integration the geological and geophysical data in transitional recent deposits, the modeling of petroliferous reservoirs, the volume calculation and the uncertainties associate with this volume. For this purpose it was carried planialtimetric and geophysics (Ground Penetrating Radar) surveys in three areas of the Parnaíba River. With this information, it was possible to visualize the overlap of different estuary channels and make the delimitation of the channel geometry (width and thickness). For three-dimensional visualization and modeling were used two of the main reservoirs modeling software. These studies were performed with the collected parameters and the data of two reservoirs. The first was created with the Potiguar Basin wells data existents in the literature and corresponding
to Açu IV unit. In the second case was used a real database of the Northern Sea. In the procedures of reservoirs modeling different workflows were created and generated five
study cases with their volume calculation. Afterwards an analysis was realized to quantify the uncertainties in the geological modeling and their influence in the volume.
This analysis was oriented to test the generating see and the analogous data use in the model construction

The work presented here searched for evidences of mound builder\'s occupation outside the shell mounds itself, in search of events related to the shell mounds, but external to it in a very dynamic area. We have integrated the GPR and GNSS-RTK technologies in order to take the archaeological research regarding the shell mound cultures outside the mounds, by remote sensing areas in which extensive sand dunes are found in search of evidence regarding the mound builder\'s settlement in the areas surrounding the mounds, which the existence was predicted in previous studies. In this sense, we integrate the technologies and carried out the sensing of the Figueirinha Region in Santa Catarina State. We have found, mapped, excavated, described and sampled the extra-mounds archaeological occurrences surrounding the Figueirinha II shell mound, in order to presenting an overview of the spatial and chronological distributions of such structures.
