Schneckengetriebe werden in der Lebensmittelproduktion mit lebensmittelverträglichen Schmierstoffen betrieben. Ein Eindringen von Wasser in das Getriebe kann hier nicht ausgeschlossen werden. Getestet wurde die Verschleiß- und Grübchentragfähigkeit bei Einsatz kontaminierter Schmierstoffe. Als Versuchsöle kamen drei Polyglykole, davon zwei wasserlösliche, ein wasserunlösliches und ein Polyalphaolefin zum Einsatz. Der Wassergehalt wurde zwischen 0 % und 5 % variiert. Basierend auf den Ergebnissen der Versuche ist ein gängiges Berechnungsverfahren zur Ermittlung der Verschleißsicherheit so angepasst worden, dass hier eine Kontamination des Schmierstoffes mit Wasser berücksichtigt werden kann. Auf Basis der Öluntersuchungen ist ein Berechnungsverfahren entwickelt worden, mit dem die kinematischen Viskositäten des Frischöls in Abhängigkeit des Wassergehaltes für die eingesetzten Schmierstoffe berechnet werden können.
