As pesquisas sísmicas em geofísica através do uso de air guns têm sido amplamente empregadas na prospecção de petróleo e gás no meio marinho. Essa tecnologia é classificada como uma das principais fontes de ruído subaquático, em que ainda é pouco conhecido seus efeitos sobre as pescarias, em particular na pesca artesanal. Efeitos de redução e incremento da produção pesqueira já foram observados, porém estes variam entre espécies e artes-depesca empregada. No Brasil, monitoramentos de desembarques pesqueiros estão sendo realizados como condicionantes do licenciamento ambiental das atividades sísmicas. Desta forma, o objetivo deste estudo foi identificar efeitos desta atividade sobre a produção de peixes desembarcados, incluindo nas análises dados de Temperatura da Superfície do Mar (TSM) e concentração de Clorofila-a (Chla). Através de Modelos Lineares Generalizados (MLG) foram avaliadas por habitat, três espécies de peixes capturadas no litoral oriental do Rio de Janeiro: tainha (pelágica costeira), dourado (pelágica oceânica) e goete (demersal costeira); e quatro espécies no litoral sul: sardinha-verdadeira (pelágica costeira), dourado (pelágica oceânica), pargo-rosa (demersal costeira) e batata (demersal oceânica). Verificou-se que as variáveis ambientais e a atividade sísmica pouco contribuíram para a variabilidade do rendimento das pescarias, porém foram observadas tendências diretas e inversas já documentadas entre as capturas e as variáveis ambientais, principalmente para as espécies pelágicas. A metodologia de coleta de dados de desembarque atualmente empregada apresentou sérias falhas que prejudicaram a qualidade das análises, dentre estas podemos citar a falta de informações espaciais dos locais de capturas e de um maior detalhamento do esforço de pesca. Recomenda-se desta forma que seja reavaliada a exigência do uso de monitoramentos de desembarques como ferramenta para identificar os impactos da atividade sísmica sobre a pesca artesanal.

The seismic studies in geophysics using air guns have been widely used in the oil and gas prospecting. This technology is classified as a main source of underwater noise, with still unknown effects on fisheries, particularly the artisanal fisheries. Reduction and increase in fishery production have been already observed, but these effects varying among species and used fishing gears. In Brazil, monitoring of fishing landings has being done as a condition of environmental licensing of seismic activity. Thus, the objective of the study was to identify effects of this activity on the fishing landings, including in the analysis covariates Sea Surface Temperature (SST) and Chlorophyll-a concentrations (Chla). The following PhD dissertation presents information on biological, ecological, socioeconomical and governmental aspects of the fishery of the common octopus (Octopus vulgaris), captured by pot and trap fishing fleets in the region of Algarve (Portugal), in the southwest of the Iberian Peninsula. The thesis work has been divided into two parts, Part One and Part Two. Part One addresses the fishery dynamics of the common octopus and its relationship with the life cycle of the species, especially those aspects concerning key reproductive stages such as spawning, para-larvae and fishing recruitment, and also its relationship with the environment. Part Two analyses the management of the fishery of the common octopus currently in force in Portugal, particularly in the Algarvian region. A series of workshops were held with stakeholders from this fishery, such as fishermen, scientists and government officials, with the purpose of discussing management approaches aimed to improve this fishery, for example the implementation of a seasonal closure in order to protect the reproduction of the species. Part One is sub-divided into two chapters, Chapter Two and Chapter Three, which precede the introduction or Chapter One. Chapter One gives an overview of the octopus fisheries around the world, the life cycle of the species and how it affects the management of the fishery, and challenges faced by the fishers and industry. Chapter Two emerges from the necessity of the fishermen to establish the time of the year that is deemed most suitable for implementing a ban on the fishery of the common octopus, in order to protect its reproduction and recruitment. This chapter aims to explain the relationship between the dynamics of the fishery and the octopus's life cycle. By means of multivariate statistical analysis of the last 25 years of data from fishing landing records at 12 main ports of the region, the most important factors linking the fishery dynamics of the octopus and its biology were identified. The results were used to construct an life cycle figure that can be used by fishermen, scientists, students, government officials, among others as a quick reference guide. Chapter Three investigate fishing landing data from the Port of Santa Luzia, one of the most important octopus ports in the Algarvian region. The use of statistical techniques such as Dynamic Factor Analyses (DFA) specifically intended for the analysis of time series including local oceanographic and environmental data is explored in order to find common trends and its relationship with environmental variables relevant to the selected fishing area. The results of these analyses reveal factors that affect the recruitment of the species in the Algarve. Part Two is sub-divided also into two chapters, Chapter Four and Chapter Five. L'objectif de cette thèse était d'anticiper les effets de l'Obligation de Débarquement (OD) mise en place en UE depuis début 2015 en Manche Orientale (MO). Pour accomplir ces objectifs, il a été prévu de : i) mieux comprendre la distribution spatiale saisonnière d'espèces commerciales à l'aide d'observations embarquées sur des navires commerciaux, ii) les comparer avec la distribution de l'effort de pêche à fine échelle des chalutiers de fonds (OTB), et iii) développer un modèle individu-centré de dynamique des flotilles, DSVM, à intégrer avec le modèle écosystémique OSMOSE pour simuler l'OD. L'utilité des données d'observations embarquées a été prouvée pour une majeure partie des espèces échantillonnées, en utilisant une validation par la bibliographie et un indicateur géostatique. Ensuite la comparaison de l'effort de pêche à fine échelle a fourni une amélioration de la quantification de l'effort de pêche effectif et mis en valeur l'importance de la seiche et du rouget barbet pour la distribution des OTB en MO. De plus, l'intensité de ciblage des OTB a été quantifiée en octobre à l'aide d'un nouvel indicateur, et démontré l'intérêt pour les mêmes espèces, mais aussi la contrainte d'un faible quota de cabillaud pour les pêcheurs. Les résultats du couplage OSMOSE-DSVM montrent que k'OD aurait des effets négatifs à court terme pour le revenu des pêcheurs, induits par le déplacement de l'effort de pêche afin d'éviter les dépassements de quota, mais serait profitable à moyen terme. Cependant, l'OD provoquerait une hausse de la pression de prédation produite par le cabillaud et le merlan sur les autres espèces, ce qui n'améliorerait pas l'état global de l'écosystème.

The objective of this thesis was to anticipate the effects if the EU Landing Obligation (LO) implemented since the beginning of 2015 in the Eastern English Channel (EEC). To achieve these objectives, it was planned to : i) better understand seasonal spatial distribution of commercial species using on-board commercial vessels observation data, ii) compare them with the final scale fishing effort distribution of EEC bottom otter trawlers (OTB), and iii) develop an individual-based model of fleet-dynamics, DSVM, to be integrated within the ecosystem model OSMOSE to simulate a LO. The usefulness of on-board observation data was proved for a main part of a species sample, using validation from the literature and a geostatistical indicator. Then the comparison of fine scale fishing effort provided an improvement of the quantification of effective fishing effort and emphasized the importance of cuttlefish and red mullet for the global distribution of EEC OTB. In addition, the targeting intensity of OTB was quantified in October using a newly-developed indicator, and demonstrated the attractiveness of the same species, but also the constraint of low cod quota for fishers. Results of the OSMOSE-DSVM coupling show that the LO would have short-term negative effects on fishers' revenue, induced by a large reallocation of their fishing effort to avoid quota…
